Another Friday brings with it another chance to plan for and select the best weekend menswear essentials, so thanks once more for joining me here at The Style Guide. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that in addition to my freelance writing pursuits scouring the market for the best in new menswear, I also cover a bit of everything for sites like Maxim, be it the best new Irish whiskey, the best American-made knives or the coolest high-end audio on the market.
In fact, it’s that final pursuit that saw me trekking West these past few days with none other than Rockford Fosgate. Not familiar? They’re an innovative audio brand focused on outfitting your favorite rugged outdoor and everyday vehicles — from Jeeps to boats and motorcycles — with crystal-clear, high-voltage sound, no matter where your adventures take you.
It’s a fascinating concept, one that I appreciate as a lover of music and top-notch sound quality. And while I don’t get behind the wheel myself much these days, I still had a blast rolling through the desert and cruising waterways with the Rockford Fosgate team, all in a quest to find out what makes the brand tick (as I did on so many trips last year!). You can certainly find out much more soon via my writing for Maxim.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a press trip — whether trekking to Bourbon Country or exploring the Northeast in a waxed trucker jacket — without the right accompanying gear to get me from point A to point B. Now, the blend of brisk mornings and nights, combined with days in the 60s and 70s, called for a few special tricks (as you might have seen on my Instagram).
Naturally, I trusted Huckberry‘s T-shirts and henleys, plus Filson overshirts, to keep me comfortable and in proper form. I also found the time to explore the Phoenix craft beer scene (as we all know, I sure do love trying out the best new craft beers!), and found Wren House Brewing an excellent stop.
Between a deep dive into the world of high-end audio, the chance to put some of my favorite menswear to the test, and the opportunity to have a few cold beers at day’s end, I’d say it was another successful freelance trek — with many more to come!
