Style Pick of the Week: Bespoke Post Sol Box

The key to summer relaxation? Quite possibly the Bespoke Post Sol Box.

The perfect way to unwind on a summer weekend? Well, I can’t tell you what exactly is required there (cold beer and sunshine?), but I can indeed tell you that the Bespoke Post Sol Box is going to make your weekend a whole lot more relaxed — and a whole lot more stylish. That’s because the Bespoke Post Sol Box features some of the best espadrilles you can slide your feet into, made with handcrafted care and available for a very, VERY agreeable price. If you follow the blog, you absolutely know we love what you can find at Bespoke Post. Think of it as the thinking man’s monthly subscription service, delivering everything from everyday carry essentials to everything you need for a summer grillout — and of course, the Bespoke Post Sol Box falls within that same realm, and same low price ($45 when you sign up for the site). In short, what you’re getting with the Bespoke Post Sol Box appears simple at first, but can offer a whole lot more than that. Consider your alternatives to your sturdy leather boots and even your stylish suede chukka boots — you’ve got classic leather moccasins, of course, but how about we shake things up?

SHOP:The Bespoke Post Sol Box

One of two versatile colorways when it comes to the Bespoke Post Sol Box.

I’m talking, of course, about some of the best slip-ons for men, an option not considered often enough — but then again, not every pair of espadrilles is as stylish as the Visgata Sitges Espadrilles as found in this Bespoke Post Box, right? Exactly right.

This pair is handcrafted by artisans in Spain, and it reflects the laidback style of the Mediterranean. Wear these with your favorite pair of linen trousers and a camp collar shirt to head to a lovely evening of dinner and drinks, or just throw on the Visgata Sitges Espadrilles with tailored shorts and a classic slub tee every single time you please. The cotton canvas upper is breathable and comfortable, while the use of natural jute is sustainable and again, highly stylish. Plus, you can throw the espadrilles from the Bespoke Post Sol Box into your weekender bag with ease as you hit the road — talk about packing light. And while you can’t exactly pair these with your classic business casual suit, you should feel free to wear the Visgata Sitges Espadrilles with tan chinos and a tailored white Oxford to dinner on your next vacation. The key to summer relaxation? It’s gotta be the Bespoke Post Sol Box.

The Friday Read: The Best Men’s Grooming Essentials, New Belgium Craft Beer, and the Best Men’s Shorts for Summer

The best T-shirt for a summer weekend? Sure is!

Just one look at the above Friday Read tells you all you need to know — we’ve got a packed rundown today, starting off with the best new T-shirt to buy for summer. We’re talking, of course, about the Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Triblend Tee as seen above. It’s geared to  be worn with everything from chino shorts to slim light wash denim — but you’re not here for that, right? No, sir. Let’s close out the week in style (or at least, we’ll close up shop until tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week).

After a couple very busy weekends in a row seeing my favorite band, The National — including a trip down South to the amazing Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival & a jaunt to Montreal — I’ll be spending this weekend in Brooklyn. As to Montreal, I can’t recommend the city’s mix of culinary delights (a la amazing meats at Maison Publique) and surprisingly delicious craft beer (the mix of French and Belgian influences at places like Isle De Garde was very neat to experience) enough. Throw in a killer show by The National playing old and new classics at Place des Arts, and you’ve got the recipe for a banner weekend. Oh, and for poutine and classic “greasy spoon” dishes, head to the Montreal Pool Room. Coffee and bagels? Fairmount Bagels has you covered. Can you tell I’m a big fan??

How about your plans for this weekend? I’m looking forward to catching up on the coffee scene at my favorite Brooklyn coffee shop, Milk & Honey, and I’m also looking forward to catching up on the craft beer scene at another favorite Brooklyn haunt, the always excellent Sycamore Bar & Flower Shop. As ever, you can check out how I’m dressing for a stylish summer weekend over at my Instagram. In the meantime, let’s get on with today’s Friday Read. Thanks for spending some of your weekend here!

  • There’s one essential men’s grooming brand — among many, naturally — that should be on your radar this season. That brand is the aptly named Beau Brummel for Men, purveyors of everything from an effective charcoal face mask to an excellent daily moisturizer. Give my latest for The Manual a quick read to get up to speed!
  • We’re going to pivot here briefly back to one of my other passions — that’d be craft beer, and specifically, some of the best beer for summer. Namely, I’ll point you toward GearMoose to read all about New Belgium’s Passion Fruit Kolsch, one heck of a light, essential beer for the warmer months.
  • And in the spirit of summer style — and summer style essentials — I’m going to close things up here by pointing you back toward some of the best shorts for summer. Make no mistake, this is ever more critical with the Fourth of July quickly approaching. Best start shopping now.

Still searching for one last critical purchase in advance of the weekend? Check out my guide to the best gear for summer — if you’re not already enamored with many of those gear picks, that is. OK, it’s time for me to sign off and head out to enjoy a summer weekend. To follow along with what I’m up to, check out my profile on Instagram. That’s all for now — cheers!

See Now, Buy Now: The Alvin Sneakers from Unmarked are the Perfect Sneakers to Wear to the Office

The sleek leather sneakers to wear to the office this summer.

There’s a right way to dress for the office, and there’s a wrong way — increasingly, dressing for the office can mean putting on something like a new pair of the best men’s sneakers (seriously). And in the case of today’s See Now, Buy Now entry, that means the Unmarked Alvin Sneakers are the way to go, a pleasingly minimal pair of sneakers to wear with a classic cotton blazer and slim light wash denim for a casual Friday. But why these stylish leather sneakers and not a standard canvas pair? Why this brand, too? I’ve got (at least) some of the answers, my friend. Namely, the richly crafted Unmarked Alvin Sneakers get all the details right, from the handmade construction (done in Mexico, home of some of the best footwear production around) to the slim profile. In fact, the design of the Unmarked Alvin Sneakers comes to us courtesy of vintage Italian military trainers — a perfect design cue for today’s menswear world.

An office-ready pair of sneakers, no doubt about it.

And that vintage-inspired design is actually what makes the Unmarked Alvin Sneakers a pair of sneakers you can wear to the office — they’re classic and not ostentatious, perfect for wearing with a navy polo and slim tan chinos. In fact, that same versatility means you can utilize the sneakers on the weekend with olive chinos and your favorite T-shirt — that’s all you need to head out and grab a few brews with your buddies, really. The handsome Maple leather upper is durable and should age nicely over time, while the 360-degre stitched rubber outsole also provides comfort and durability. What’s not to love about the Unmarked Alvin Sneakers? Give ’em a spin and see for yourself.

#OOTD: Wear Your New Favorite Chinos This Way for Summer

The simple pleasures are really what summer is all about — like wearing a pair of the best men’s chinos to do, well, whatever it is you please. From preparing a lovely meal on your patio grill to spending long hours with friends and family on your back deck or on vacation, summer seems primed for those types of opportunities — especially if you wear the proper men’s style essentials as outlined in this #OOTD, including, again, some stylish men’s chinos from Flint and Tinder (more on why you need that exact pair in a second). The right pair of lightweight, stylish chinos can step things up a notch from shorts — no matter how stylish your shorts might be, it’s sometimes a nice gesture to shake things up a bit and go just a touch dressier. And for an easygoing summer evening, we’ll balance things out with a stylish short-sleeve shirt (leave the blazer at home), to go along with a classic NATO strap watch. The overall impact of this #OOTD is one that nods toward casual style and great times, without being too bold or over-the-top — the absolute perfect balance for summer, in my mind. No matter where your plans take you, that sounds agreeable to me. To see how I’m dressing for summer, head to my Instagram — and to get the full ensemble, read below!

A mix of easygoing refinement and summer style staples. Tequila not included.

Are you onboard with this #OOTD for a casual summer night? When you keep the focus on simple, classic men’s style essentials — I.E. stylish men’s chinos from Flint and Tinder — the rest of your ensemble can truly shine. And lightweight chinos are going to provide a perfect counterbalance in terms of style when paired up with a stylish short-sleeve shirt from Lisboa — see, you’re already all set for your next rooftop or backyard party. Throw in some summer-ready touches, like your new favorite casual watch and a pair of the rugged-yet-cool Yuketen Canoe Mocs, and you’re breezy and well-dressed (possibly the best-dressed guy at the entire affair??). Summer calls for on-point accessories across the board, including stylish sunglasses and a stylish suede belt  — it’s all about keeping things casual yet still sharp. Whether you host or spend the evening with friends, I’d also wager just about anyone can appreciate something like a make-your-own margarita glass set, ideally filled with a homemade recipe.  Last but not least, to tie things all together … put on a richly scented solid cologne from Duke Cannon to really drive home the easygoing-yet-stylish appeal of this #OOTD. That’s about everything you need for a great summer day or night, correct? Correct. Enjoy the season, folks!

Style Pick of the Week: Howlin Light Flight Short-Sleeve Shirt

The unique short-sleeve shirt to wear all summer.

How much of your summer to-do list have you checked off to date? Have you enjoyed a summer happy hour (in style, of course) or an outdoor concert? How about a visit to your favorite brewery? And most importantly, what are you wearing to tackle each and every single one of these pursuits? Answer: A stylish short-sleeve shirt like the Howlin Light Flight Shirt has to be the menswear essential you need — that’s a fact. It’s an investment at $140 as sold via Huckberry, but this is practically a do-it-all shirt. While at first it might seem like too much of a departure from what you’re used to wearing for off-duty style (perhaps something as simple as a USA-made T-shirt), give the Howlin Light Flight Shirt a try when you want that same laidback comfort — and just a bit more polish. That’s what makes it one of the best short-sleeve shirts for men this season; it’s all about balance, and all about not overdoing it. What I mean to say is, leave the starched dress shirt at home for Casual Friday, and head into the office wearing the Howlin Light Flight Shirt, plus some slim tan chinos and suede chukka boots — then, get yourself to your favorite bar for happy hour after work. Made from a breezy cotton-polyester blend, it’s the laidback short-sleeve shirt that’s got more in common with a simple tee than anything else — for summer, that’s great news indeed.

SHOP: The Howlin Light Flight Shirt

The Howlin Light Flight Shirt looks a little bit like something Mr. James Bond himself would wear on a tropical getaway, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it work for you — even if you’re only wearing it to grab a round of rooftop cocktails. The classic free collar is a retro-inspired touch, akin to a camp collar shirt, that looks refreshingly modern today, particularly if you pair this navy short-sleeve shirt with off-white chinos and brown leather loafers for a bit of dressy appeal. Plus, the Howlin Light Flight Shirt  just so happens to be made in Belgium — it can handle a hot European summer or a breezy NYC day with ease. And if you’re searching for a shirt to keep you cool underneath a classic cotton blazer, take a style hack from the old blog and try the Howlin Light Flight Shirt under said blazer — you’ll be grateful you did as the thermostat climbs. Your search for the perfect summer shirt is finally over, just in time for the weekend.

The Friday Read: Summer’s Best T-Shirts, Montreal & The Best Beer to Drink for Summer

Two options for the best summer polo for men, guaranteed.

Readers, do you see those two stylish polos above? Either could be the key to unlocking perfect weekend summer style — perfect style for the weekend we’ve got in front of us, in fact. I’ll be wearing something mighty similar to the Relwen Stripe Pique Slot Polo, and I’d recommend you do the same. What’s on your weekend agenda? If you follow me on Instagram or read the blog, you know I love — absolutely love — American indie rockers The National. They’re touring behind their new album and short film “I Am Easy To Find,” and with that tour comes the chance to visit another new city; this weekend, it’s Montreal! Have any suggestions on what I should do during my time in the city? I plan on checking out renowned spots like Joe Beef and Maison Publique for my fair share of amazing steak and cocktails, for starters. And of course, the Friday evening show at the beautiful-looking Place des Arts should also be phenomenal — I can’t recommend this new album enough, folks! That’s what I’ll be listening to as I head to Montreal. To start your own weekend off right, you know what to do: Check out the below Friday Read.

#OOTD: How to Wear a Short-Sleeve Henley All Summer Long

What’s your perfect summer day like? That’s a tall order, but  before we get too sentimental: Maybe it involves plenty of relaxation, some delicious iced coffee, and then a delicious summer beer or two to take the afternoon away. Perhaps, it also involves wearing your new favorite henley to enjoy it all the while. That’s where we’ll start today’s #OOTD — as we all know, even casual style situations demand only the best summer style essentials you can buy. Plus, an occasion like kicking back on your patio with your buddies, beer in hand & rock on the radio, is a chance to wear, well, whatever you want to wear. That being said, we’re raising the bar, starting with a rugged short-sleeve henley to keep you cool, followed in short order by Camp Shorts from Taylor Stitch, then finished off with classic Sperry sneakers. Throw in a tough field watch and some of your favorite tunes, then consider your day sorted out quite nicely. Plus, this still leaves plenty of time to grab an afternoon nap and catch that ballgame on TV later — no fancy outfit swap needed. It’s the small details in style that make an outfit, and it’s the little things in life that really matter, like enjoying a favorite brew wearing your favorite style essentials. Too sentimental for you? Too late! Read about the full look below.

Laidback, easygoing, pleasingly rugged — all in a day’s work when it comes to summer style.

  • The Henley: Proof 72-Hour Merino Short-Sleeve Henley, $74 Proof makes menswear that’s as versatile as it is performance-ready — this rugged short-sleeve henley will keep you cool during a marathon craft beer session.
  • The Beer: Funkwerks Saison, Price Varies— A light, herbal, crisp & refreshing backyard sipper that’s pleasingly flavorful & perfect for summer.
  • The Classic Shorts: Taylor Stitch Camp Shorts, $88 Taylor Stitch makes gear that’s as fit for an adventure as it is for kicking back with the guys — the Camp Shorts embody that approach nicely.
  • The Sneakers: Sperry Cloud CVO Deck Sneakers, $75 — A mere $75 for a classic pair of sneakers you can wear all summer? These Sperry CVO Sneakers truly are timeless (and perfect to wear while enjoying a brew or two!).
  • The Watch: VAER Watches Field Watch, $169.98 — An afternoon enjoying your favorite beer calls for a tough field watch from VAER Watches, does it not?
  • The Sunglasses: Sunski Yubas Sunglasses, $58 — Leave the expensive sunglasses at home for this outing — this pair from Sunski represents some of the most affordable sunglasses you can wear this season.
  • The Audio Essential: Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay A1 Speaker, $250 — For an afternoon in the sun with a tasty brew, grab this portable speaker for hours of listening enjoyment.
  • The Vintage Ballcap: Seager Co. The ERA Ballcap, $32 — Keep the sun off your face and do so in stylish with this classic ballcap, fittingly named for that all-important baseball stat.

Can’t you just taste the delightful flavor of that Funkwerks Saison? How can it get any better? Answer: Sipping on that beer while wearing  your new favorite henley, naturally. As we all know, a rugged short-sleeve henley is almost a ridiculously easy way to look great, thanks to its sporting roots and modern-day appeal. It’s all about going beyond casual gym shorts and sandals, and turning things up a notch — in an authentic way, of course. This casual #OOTD is primed for summer relaxation at home or during a weekend way, helped along by durable Taylor Stitch shorts and of course, iconic men’s sneakers made for hours upon hours of warm-weather style (plus, they look even better with a bit of dirt on ’em).

A seasonally friendly beer should make it easy to enjoy the sun without overdoing it, and naturally, you’ll be staying on time with a tough field watch from VAER Watches that can handle some grilling, some beer-sipping, and maybe even a light game of catch. Lest we forget, a portable speaker is really critical here — great beer calls for great music, and a day in the sun also calls for stylish sunglasses from Sunski (remember, these are perhaps the most affordable sunglasses you’re apt to find on a given day, so don’t worry about getting ’em a bit dinged up). To top things off, throw on a classic ballcap, then get ready for one heck of a stylish, laidback summer day. That’s all there is to it.

The List: Here’s the Best Beer to Drink and the Best New Menswear to Buy for Summer

A light, drinkable beer to pair with your favorite menswear this season. Image courtesy of House Beer.

Is there any better way to get into the spirit of summer than with an ice-cold, refreshing beer? Plus, some new men’s style essentials? In mind, no sir, no there’s not. That’s where we’re kicking off today’s edition of The List, telling you about a delicious new beer from House Beer to drink right now (well, during happy hour, I should  say). If you’re not yet familiar with House Beer, this brand is making a wildly drinkable beer — just one style — in the tradition of old-school lager. It’s refreshing, it’s pleasing to enjoy straight out of a can, and it’s never better than when you pair it with your favorite pair of jeans and an American-made tee. I’ve said too much, though — let’s get started.

House Beer — Price Varies

This classic beer could just be a new favorite.

As I mentioned above, there might not be a better beer to drink at the moment than this crisp, refreshing, retro-inspired lager. House Beer is made with Noble hops in the fashion of a premium lager, and that just means it’s one darn good beer to enjoy out of a can all summer long. You can find House Beer in 12oz. and 16oz. cans (as seen above — mighty crushable in a can, I might add!), plus 12oz. bottles and on draft. Any way you choose to enjoy this beer, it’s nearly perfect for summer. What to pair it with? Your new favorite pair of denim, of course. Speaking of …

Mott and Bow Leroy Jeans — $128

The slim black denim that’s going to come in mighty handy, no matter the day or season.

We’ll go from your new favorite beer to the best men’s jeans you can wear casually — House Beer in hand, of course. That’d be the Mott and Bow Leroy Jeans, an essential pair of slim black denim to wear to an outdoor music festival or an evening on the town.

SeaVees Magnum Legend Sneakers — $88

These printed sneakers are one way to amp up your sneaker rotation.

Prefer to keep things a little more dialed-down on your top half (think a slub T-shirt and slim light wash jeans), yet wanting to go big when it comes to stylish summer sneakers? The SeaVees Legend Sneakers feature an authentic Hawaiian print to wear all season long.

Faherty Brand Sunwashed Polo — $88

This breezy polo is simply perfect for summer.

Speaking of keeping things simple up top, reach for a slim polo from Faherty Brand any time you want the comfort of a tee, yet the style of a classic men’s polo.

Karesuando Hunting Axe — $214

The best hunting axe you can buy for your summer cabin.

Is there a good chance this durable hunting axe might become more of a decoration at your cabin than something with actual utility? Potentially. But this rugged axe could just be key to your next outdoor adventure — it’s up to you.

Taylor Stitch Cash Shirt — $128

The dependable denim shirt for all your summer layering needs.

Yes, we’re back with more stylish menswear from Taylor Stitch.  Critically, the Taylor Stitch Cash Shirt could just be one of the best men’s denim shirts on the market, and it’s ready to layer up over a crisp white tee with slim tan chinos all summer long.

Speaking of summer style essentials, well, the folks at Roark Revival know how to make ’em. With the cut of tailored shorts and the fabric of adventure shorts, these are perhaps the best shorts for men — especially if you’re a guy on the go.
