Style Pick of the Week: Wills Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan

The cozy, refined sweater you’ll wear all winter.

For mornings when it’s too cold to do anything but put on a pot of coffee and stoke the fire, for days when you need to look sharp yet stay warm, and for nearly every day in between (holiday weekends and parties included!), you need one of the best men’s cardigans. That’s a high bar to clear, to be sure, but the Wills Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan admirably ticks all the right boxes when it comes to your search for one of the best men’s sweaters. And again, that’s what makes it an admirable Style Pick of the Week for Thanksgiving weekend and well beyond. The Wills Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan is both rugged and yet refined, the kind of shawl cardigan James Bond himself might have worn in “Quantum of Solace” — and yet at a much more agreeable price than the cardigan worn by Daniel Craig. That being said, this classic shawl cardigan is quite the investment ($245 as sold by Huckberry), and yet I’m confident it’ll pay plenty of dividends in matters of style and comfort — to say the very least. How can just one sweater bring so much to the table (and your closet)? I’m glad you asked.

SHOP: The Wills Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan

Rugged, versatile, wildly easy to layer … a true keeper in every sense of the word!

Cashmere itself is an extremely luxurious and soft fabric, in this case taken from goats in Mongolia — talk about exotic origins for such a classically rugged silhouette, right? And the finished product here is one-of-a-kind, as at home layered over a crisp white Oxford shirt as with your favorite thermal henley — yes, the Wills Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan really can do it all. It’ll also wear readily with fall and winter style favorites (think burgundy cords or tan moleskin pants), and it can pair up with other tried-and-true style staples (enter your favorite pair of faded blue denim). Heck, wear it to your holiday party with slim charcoal chinos and a light blue dress shirt in place of your traditional blazer (just add stylish leather chukka boots). Think of this as a luxurious sweater that can really be lived in, from weekends at home to trips to your cabin to days at the office — and the Wills Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan is practically a natural fit when searching for a sweater to throw on during an icy winter morning, too. Are those considerations important? Well, when you’re dropping nearly $250 on a cardigan, every detail should be thought out — luckily, the Wills Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan does the thinking for you here. No stress, all  style. Well-done, Wills. Happy shopping!

The List: Here’s the Best New Gear to Buy on Black Friday — And Wear All Winter

The rugged, dependable jacket you’ll find yourself reaching for all winter.

To me, it’s pretty crazy that we’re already talking about the best men’s gear to buy for winter — and heck, to go along with that, the best men’s style deals on Black Friday and beyond. Now, will every pick on this list be on sale for a steal? Not quite — but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look to gear up accordingly for chillier temperatures, blizzards and the like. That goes for rugged winter jackets like the one seen above (from Tom Beckbe), as well as a host of other men’s style essentials. The best deals for guys on Black Friday also come from retailers you know and love, like Huckberry and Taylor Stitch; what does this all mean for you? It means you should have your shopping list ready to go this week (and beyond). Happy hunting!

Tom Beckbe Tensaw Jacket — $495

This thing is tough as heck and ready for the nastiest winter weather. Snap it up ASAP.

When inclement weather strikes — be it as you head over the river and through the woods on a holiday weekend, or as you head to the office — you need the right gear. The tough-as-nails Tom Beckbe Tensaw Jacket is made for the field and the city, as the brand puts it, and it’s seriously rugged, classic & ready to layer. One of the best jackets to buy on Black Friday (and beyond, naturally).

Wild Turkey “Bar in a Backpack” — Limited Edition

Everything you need to make your new favorite cocktail. Image courtesy of Wild Turkey.

OK, so here’s something fun if you happen to live in an area where there happens to be a Wild Turkey “Turkey Trot” this year (specifically, Austin, New Orleans or Chicago). Once you complete your run, enjoy a classic Old Fashioned (if you’re over 21!) made using delicious Wild Turkey bourbon. For those at least 21 years of age in Austin, Chicago and New Orleans running at local “Turkey Trots” this week, they can see the barpack in real-life and potentially walk away with one of their own. It’s loaded with a standing bar for mixing, plus Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon, Angostura Bitters, Powell & Mahoney Simple Syrup, glassware, a stirrer and more. It’s seriously cool, it’s almost too good to be true … and it’s only available at a Wild Turkey “Turkey Trot.” Heck, I got to check one out recently, and it was seriously cool. So, make your weekend even more worthwhile with a run and some delicious spirits, ehh?

Rhodes Footwear Huxley Boots — $220 (When Full Price)

No wrong way to go with these sleek-yet-tough Chelsea boots.

Finding some of the best Chelsea boots on the market just got a whole heck of a lot easier — the sleek Rhodes Footwear Huxley Boots are perhaps the best boots to wear to a holiday party, what with their dressy silhouette and go-anywhere functionality. Wear them with slim selvedge denim. Speaking of …

Todd Snyder Slim Fit Japanese Selvedge Jeans — $198

Exceptional Todd Snyder denim for any and every holilday occasion.

It’s tough to find the right pair of Japanese selvedge jeans at an agreeable price, and while these Todd Snyder jeans are still an investment, they’re a purchase that’ll pay off in spades. Perfectly casual and exceptionally well-suited to wear to a holiday party with your new favorite flannel shirt (don’t worry, we’ll tell you all about that shirt in just one second).
Flint and Tinder American-Made Flannel — $98

This classic men’s watch from Zodiac is packed to the gills with premium quality touches, from the Swiss construction to the handsome stainless steel case and of course, the design that pays homage to the Space Race. It’s an investment-level watch you’ll have for years to come.
Quero Shoes Q Sneakers — $225

Sharp sneakers that are as dressy and well-made as your favorite leather dress shoes.

With a clean design and the type of craftsmanship normally found in fine leather boots, these Quero Shoes Q Sneakers really are something else. Thanks to the brand, I’ve been testing out a pair these past few weeks — as seen on my Instagram — with some excellent results. Made with durable calfskin leather that’s individually dyed, these sneakers are handsome, refined and seriously stylish — in short, the perfect casual sneakers to wear to a holiday gathering or a laidback office Friday.
Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt in Olive Donegal — $125

A casually rugged, expertly cut shirt from Taylor Stitch.

The search for the best winter shirt continues, and yet, if you pick up the rugged-yet-versatile Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt in Olive Donegal, you’re surely checking off at least one box in terms of your winter style essentials. Consider it the perfect shirt to wear to the office, then to holiday drinks. Snap it up on Black Friday while you can, though.
Deschutes Jubelale Beer — Price Varies

One of your new favorite winter beers, I’d wager. Cheers to the holidays!

While not necessarily a special deal for Black Friday or Thanksgiving weekend, the Deschutes Jubelale is easily one of the best beers for winter (and the holidays in general, for that matter). In fact, you should make it a point to track some down for Thanksgiving! I’ve tested out the beer courtesy of Deschutes these past few weeks, and it seriously delivers. The quality of this beer starts with roasted barley and pale hop blends, among other fine ingredients, and carries through some excellent cold-weather character with rich spice notes and a seasonally friendly color. Can a beer be beautiful? Yes, yes it can — enjoy this at all your holiday parties … just be sure to bring extra for your guests.
Billy Reid Moleskin Jeans — $225

Perfect jeans for Thanksgiving weekend — and beyond that, too.

What pairs well with a festive winter beer? Why, the sort of gear that’s right at home in front of the fire or on the road to visit friends — so, in this case, the refined and classic Billy Reid Moleskin Jeans. They’re versatile enough to wear out to the  bar on Wednesday night of Thanksgiving week, and they’ll do just fine the rest of the weekend — and back at the office, too.
Topo Designs Long-Sleeve Waffle Tee — $79

A rugged, comfortable long-sleeve tee to wear as a base layer or all on its own.

Holiday weekends like Thanksgiving are nothing without the right casual style essentials — just laidback enough to relax around the fire after a second helping of dinner, but polished enough to be worn into town for a brewery visit. Or heck, out on the trail to work off said meal and beers. At least, that’s what the Topo Designs Long-Sleeve Waffle Tee seems to be built for, made with tons of durability and remarkable quality (again, perhaps you’ve seen it on my Instagram). You know what it would wear especially well with? The Tom Beckbe Tensaw Jacket.
Peak Design Travel Duffel Backpack — $220

A dependable hybrid travel bag to haul all your holiday gear.

With Peak Design, you know you’re investing in the best travel bags on the planet — and that’s no more crucial than with the holidays approaching. The Peak Design Travel Duffel Backpack is effective, easy to carry and highly functional — again, everything you should look for in the best travel bag on the market.
Taylor Stitch Leeward Shirt in Dusk — $188

The kind of shirt you want to have on hand for a crisp winter morning.

Yes indeed, we’ve got  more rugged Taylor Stitch gear for the taking, especially when it comes to exquisite winter style essentials like the dependable, ridiculously well-made Taylor Stitch Leeward Shirt. The perfect holiday weekend layer atop a thermal waffle tee (*ahem* from Topo Designs *ahem*) on a chilly winter morning.
Barking Irons “Red Dead Redemption 2” Union Henley — $79
Some things just go together — like the outlaw-inspired style of “Red Dead Redemption 2” (if you’re a gamer, you know it!) and the real-world, seriously cool gear being churned out by Barking Irons. In this case, there’s no more fitting partnership than this limited-edition henley inspired by the game and made from soft-washed cotton. The finishing touch? The Arthur Morgan collar print, an homage to the game’s protagonist. Unique, made for layering and ready for fall.
Stetson Chapman Hat — $119

Old-school quality and heritage make this Stetson hat a keeper.

Now, is a Stetson hat for everyone? Not quite, but if you’ve been looking to take the plunge, and want to do so in rugged fall and winter style, you could do worse than the Stetson Chapman Hat.
Bluffworks Departure Jeans 2.0 — $98

Slim travel jeans that were in fact made to be worn for tons of travel.

Just because you’re traveling for the holidays doesn’t mean you should throw style by the wayside — take these slim black jeans from Bluffworks, a new update to their lauded Depature Jeans. They feature a tailored fit and versatile dark wash for style that goes from the plane to a party without missing a beat, and a bevy of travel-ready pockets also gives these a major leg up over other, less stylish (and functional) jeans.
Brooklyn Candle Studio Montana Forest Candle — $24

A small upgrade to your space that’ll go a long way this holiday season.

Whether hosting guests or relaxing at home, the right candle can actually add a heck of a lot of character and atmosphere to a space — especially surrounding the holidays. Brooklyn Candle Studio makes scents with a variety of inspirations in mind, and this particular candle harnesses the great outdoors easily.

Vetra French Moleskin Jacket — $229

An easy-to-wear jacket that harnesses classic style inspiration.

Either way, I hope you’ve found something to enjoy, and I hope you find all the deals your heart desires — enjoy the holiday, my friends, and thanks for reading!

#OOTD: Wear This Gear for the Perfect Thanksgiving This Year

Worried about what to wear to Thanksgiving? Worried you’re running out of time to put together an ensemble packed with fall style essentials? Folks, you’ve still got at least some time to get things together — and if you’re already on the road or packing up with one of the best weekender bags, well, consider this #OOTD some handy style inspiration all the same. Thanksgiving is a time to relax with family and friends, reflect on a year well-lived and enjoy some (hopefully) crisp and cool winter weather in style. That being said, the below Thanksgiving #OOTD is all about casual-yet-polished comfort and style — these are the kind of picks you can mix and match (from an American-made flannel to a stylish wool blazer), yet they’ll also look just right on your own. The key here comes in not overthinking it …  but in putting forth some effort all the same, even for a quick crosstown jaunt. In fact, the blazer featured below (from casual style masters Outerknown) could be the blazer to wear for Thanskgiving. And yes, we’re recommending you wear a blazer — we’re going cool and casual, but not sloppy. So, you’ll also find a pair of sleek Chelsea boots up for the taking, to go along with a stylish leather watch — the details matter, without a doubt. This look works for travel to your destination, plus a meal at home, and you can also repurpose the rugged flannel shirt to wear on Wednesday (the biggest bar night of the year, after all, ehh?). And for travel, the Outerknown Ambassador Blazer has plenty of space for your everyday carry, too. Think of this as a multifaceted, versatile & polished #OOTD  that works at Thanksgiving and throughout the holiday season — but first and foremost, let’s get you ready for the holiday. Don’t forget the pumpkin pie! And have a great holiday weekend, folks.

It’s never too late to put together the perfect #OOTD for Thanksgiving.

The Best Basics. Summer Ready.

  • The Blazer: Outerknown Ambassador Blazer, $325 — Is it too late to find the best blazer to wear for Thanskgiving? Not quite! Made with sustainable, unlined construction and featuring a tailored fit, this is the perfect casual blazer — not stuffy or uncomfortable in the slightest.
  • The Flannel Shirt: Flint and Tinder American-Made Flannel, $98 — While a rugged flannel shirt won’t work in warmer climates (simply swap in a stylish merino tee), this American-made flannel is as classic as it gets for the season. Plus, it looks great when you roll up the sleeves and shed the Outerknown Ambassador Blazer.
  • The Denim: Todd Snyder Slim-Fit Stretch Selvedge Denim, $198 — Want style that’s laidback and yet polished? Turn toward Todd Snyder’s selvedge denim — yes, you can wear jeans on Thanksgiving, especially if they’re made from rich Japanese selvedge fabric in a pleasing wash.
  • The Chelsea Boots: Rhodes Footwear Huxley Boots, $220 — For ease of getting to and from Thanksgiving dinner, and for equal parts functionality (traction on slippery roads) and style (sleek Chelsea boots never fail), reach for Rhodes Footwear this season.
  • The Stylish Dress Watch: Martenero Kerrison Watch, $595 — Both rugged and yet refined, this is the stylish leather watch to wear to Thanksgiving (and any holiday party, for that matter). Not too loud, not too subtle — Martenero has done things “just right” here.
  • The Grooming Essential: Lumin Moisturizing Balm, $29 — For a big holiday like Thanksgiving, you’ll want to look your best — clear, refreshed skin is a crucial part of that. With that in mind, Lumin’s Moisturizing Balm (as tested by yours truly recently) is some of the best on the market.
  • The Travel Bag: WP Standard Canvas Travel Bag, $298 — The best bag to pack for Thanksgiving? Very nearly. WP Standard comes through with a dependable travel bag that’s perfect for a long weekend.
  • The Host Gift: Cooper and Thief Bourbon Barrel-Aged Red Wine, Price Varies — If you’re able to check a bag or bring along a gift for your host, reach for a richly crafted bottle of red wine aged in bourbon barrels. It’s absolutely perfect for the holiday season.

Again, what’s the key in getting ready for a casual-yet-sharp Thanksgiving, the kind of holiday you can really enjoy in style? It starts with solid building blocks, including the perfect casual blazer for a bit of polished style. It works quite nicely when worn atop an American-made flannel for casual style that won’t quit — and again, that flannel is multi-faceted and versatile. It all comes together in terms of standout off-duty style thanks to slim denim from American menswear master Todd Snyder, as fitting a designer to wear on this holiday as any. Team it all with rugged-yet-sleek Chelsea boots for a sharp finish to the main components of this Thanksgiving outfit. Yet, we’re not done yet. Stay on time through your travels with the remarkably rugged Martenero watch shown above, and be sure to use Lumin’s Moisturizing Balm to freshen up your mug for the holiday. Naturally, Thanksgiving is all about travel — and with that being said, you need a dependable travel bag from WP Standard for the holiday weekend. Bring along some Cooper & Thief bourbon barrel-aged wine for your host, and you just might be the hero of Thanksgiving. And with that, I’ll send you out to finalize your outfit and travel plans — oh, and stay tuned for more Black Friday-centric content later this week. Thanks for reading — I’m very thankful!

SHOP: The Rhodes Dylan Chukka Boots

The Best Basics. Summer Ready.

A low profile and classic design make these chukka boots wearable … anywhere.

And as you would expect from some of the best chukka boots out there, the specs are taken care of quite nicely indeed. Which is to say: These handsome leather chukka boots blend soft European leather with an unlined and lightweight construction. These are a classic pair of chukka boots that’ll also do well with a whole host of menswear essentials: Try ’em out with a white Oxford shirt and faded dark blue denim, then pair that look up with a sharp navy blazer. Style Pick of the Week: Barbour Classic Bedale Waxed Jacket

The ruggged, classic jacket that’s going to make it a heck of a lot easier to take on fall and winter.

There are certain classic men’s jackets for fall, spring and beyond that are so striking and iconic, they’ve carried over the years and resisted trends and the passing of time — take the Schott NYC Leather Moto Jacket, for starters (as covered here on the blog), and add the Barbour Classic Bedale Waxed Jacket to that list, no questions asked. Among the best men’s jackets your friendly neighborhood menswear writer has laid eyes on, the Barbour Bedale Jacket is a true favorite, made to be worn all through fall and winter — day after day, snowstorm after snowstorm. To kick things off, if you’re on the hunt for a jacket to wear to Thanksgiving as you roll over the river and through the woods, this rugged Barbour jacket is the one you’re going to want on your back. Barbour has a long tradition of making the toughest men’s jackets on the market, and they haven’t missed a beat (again, in spite of the passage of time). What is it precisely about the Barbour Bedale Jacket that delivers the goods? Let’s talk about how it’s a callback to the Barbour attention to detail, for starters. While there are companies that have been making jackets for ages, the Barbour Bedale Jacket dates back to 1980, when it was arguably one of the first short, lightweight jackets delivered for outdoor use. Made to be worn when riding horseback and then pioneered by hunters and explorers (and gentlemen like yourself!), it’s a stone-cold menswear classic you should be proud to own.

SHOP: The Barbour Classic Bedale Waxed Jacket

The right details and construction set this jacket apart.

In fact, this rugged Barbour jacket is nearly recognizable almost in an instant, made with a tough waxed canvas outer shell that’s the perfect repellent to blustery, cold countryside days (especially in its home of Great Britain). The thick plaid flannel lining is another classic Barbour touch, geared to provide extra warmth — especially when worn over your favorite flannel shirt or a rugged henley. It’s the kind of jacket that’s only going to get better the more you wear it, as the waxed canvas ages and takes on more character through each adventure (or excursion to your local brewery, at that). Heck, we haven’t even talked about the corduroy collar, another touch that Barbour has made all its own when it comes to the Barbour Classic Bedale Waxed Jacket. Heavy-duty hardware and a tough YKK zipper give you all the dependability you need, too. From A-to-Z, again, this is perhaps one of the toughest men’s jackets you’ll ever own.

The Friday Read: What to Wear for Thanksgiving, Filson’s New Jacket & the Best Corduroy Blazers

This jacket is seriously tough and rugged — perfect for a winter weekend.

Given that it’s a late November weekend, it’s understandable if you’ve got rugged winter style — and holiday gift shopping, for that matter — on the brain. Case in point: Perhaps the excellent Peregrine Bexley Jacket shown above is on your shopping list (or your holiday wish list). And if you weren’t ready for winter before, I’d wager that a rugged waxed jacket is going to help get you ready in a hurry. Again, Peregrine means business — so too, should your winter style. OK, let’s get to the rest of today’s Friday Read. First and foremost, I’m excited to close out a busy week in Brooklyn, which featured a show at the excellent Elsewhere venue in Bushwick by indie rockers Wild Nothing. Yes indeed, it’ll be high time for some much-needed rest and relaxation back home, including a late fall stroll through Prospect Park and an Old Fashioned or two at my favorite bar in Brooklyn. This week was exciting in other ways, too — the lineup was announced for The National Homecoming Festival, an incredible Cincy fest put on by (and celebrating!) my very favorite band … yes, of course, The National. I went to the first edition of the festival in April 2018, and for this go-round, I already have my tickets! Needless to say … I couldn’t be more thrilled to return to Ohio next year! Will I see you there? Let me know on Twitter. In the meantime, be sure to get your weekend started on the right foot with today’s Friday Read.

  • In matters of style, first and foremost, one of the best men’s blazers can take your look from good to great, whether you pair it with your favorite henley or with a crisp Oxford shirt. And there’s something to be said for doing things a bit differently in that regard — like switching up the texture and fabric of your blazer. And on that note … I wrote about my favorite corduory blazers for The Manual, so you can dress for the season with ease.
  • I mentioned above that we’d be telling you about the best men’s winter jackets for the season here, including one from the rugged gear purveyors at Filson. Well, ladies and gentlemen … that time has come. Specifically, I covered the excellent Filson Double Mackinaw Wool Jacket over at GearMoose, and you can rest assured that it’s ready to go anywhere this season (yes, even to Thanksgiving dinner!).
  • Speaking of seasonal dressing — as in, dressing for Thanksgiving dinner — you might find this recent #OOTD covering what to wear on a chily fall day comes in mighty handy as you prep for the rest of November and December.
  • As I mentioned above, it’s been a very, very exciting week in my neck of the woods, as The National Homecoming, the second iteration of the excellent festival put on by my favorite band, returns next May. Read about this terrific festival here.

OK, before you go away for the weekend … stick around with my guide to the best new menswear for fall and winter, why don’t you? I think you’ll find precisely what you’re looking for when it comes to winter style essentials, including a tough shirt jacket, some standout whiskey for fall and winter, and rugged leather boots aplenty. That’s where your weekend should start — where will it take you? Adventure in style & thanks for reading!

Thirsty Monk Trail Monk IPA — Price Varies

An IPA brewed with orange zest for a good (no, great) cause benefitting the outdoors. Photo courtesy of Thirsty Monk.

Here’s the thing about craft beer — if you’re willing to seek it out, you’re going to find excellent local and regional brews in plenty of places. And if you live in or near Portland, Asheville or Denver (three of my favorite cities!), you know the joys of the terrific “Belgian-rooted ales” being produced at Thirsty Monk’s brewpubs. That list includes the new Trail Monk IPA, made with orange peel and zest for a bittersweet zing at the finish. I had the chance to visit the excellent Asheville Downtown location, and I can’t recommend it enough — what’s more, portion of proceeds from sales of Trail Monk will benefit Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation in Asheville, the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative in Denver, and Trailkeepers of Oregon. Craft beer that tastes great AND gives back? That’s nearly too good to be true!

Taylor Stitch Lodge Sweater in Army — $168

Even better? It’s made with incredibly soft 100 percent baby yak.

No matter the rest of your gear rotation, it’ll always pay off to ensure the details are taken care of — such as with a pair of some of the best men’s boxer briefs from Jumper. Comfort and breathabilty are what you’re getting here.

#OOTD: How to Dress for a Fall Evening On The Town — The Right Way

So, you’ve done your research, you’ve made your reservation and you’re looking forward to an evening at your favorite cocktail bar, a secluded whiskey den or an old-school speakeasy — if it’s a special occasion, and even if it’s not, I’d bet you’re now on the hunt for what to wear out on a fall evening. Date night, weeknight, post-concert, pre-dinner … the right #OOTD can go a long way in terms of solidifying rock-solid fall and winter style, and I’m here to help you put it all together.

My go-to in a situation like this is usually my trusty Flint and Tinder Trucker Jacket, to go along with my neighborhood whiskey bar, Sycamore Bar and Flower Shop, but perhaps you want to step it up a notch (NYC’s The Dead Rabbit ought to do the trick!). Wherever you go, the best men’s style essentials are crucial in that regard — we’re talking subtle but stylish, considered and composed. Witness our picks below, from slim black jeans — sharp but not too stuffy — to rich cognac leather boots and more unique touches suited to an evening on the town. Case in point: Layers like a rugged work jacket and slick-but-classic touches like an organic cotton Oxford shirt. Of course, you’ll also find the best leather dress watch in this ensemble for the taking. The key here is putting together a look that’s sharp, versatile and comfortable — in my mind, this is a get-up you could wear to the office, and then right out to dinner afterwards. It all comes together in a fall-friendly black-and-tan combination that’ll quietly turn heads, and hopefully, impress your company. Like the look of this? Feel free to reach out to me on Twitter.

Pairing up rich leather boots with dark denim and a workwear jacket — all in the pursuit of great whiskey.

  • The Slim Dark Denim: Bluffworks Travel Jeans 2.0 in Black Dark Wash, $98 — Invest in the best with these slim black jeans in a flattering fit — built-in stretch and handy hidden pockets ensure your everyday carry essentials are taken care of, while the silhouette is dressy enough for a refined bar or speakeasy.
  • The Jacket: Vetra French Moleskin Jacket, $229 — A modern update to the classic workwear silhouette, this rugged work jacket provides a nice contrast to your slim black jeans and white Oxford shirt — it’s casual but not too casual, and visually interesting all the same.
  • The Shirt: By Garment Makers Organic Shirt, $78 — A crisp, classic white Oxford shirt is a foolproof move, no matter the occasion — and when the occasion involves enjoying an Old Fashioned alongside pleasant company, well, you’d best look the part. This might just be the best Oxford shirt to snap up for fall and winter.
  • The Boots: Moral Code Jacques Wingtip Boots, $249 — The right leather boots can really tie an outfit together — and the pair of the moment has to be this pleasingly refined pair from Moral Code, featuring classically rugged brogue detailing. Certainly sharp enough for a distillery, a speakeasy or your favorite cocktail bar.
  • The Watch: Carpenter Watches G2 Brooklyn Gent, $724.98 — For a refined evening out and about, only the best leather dress watch will do. Carpenter Watches makes a nuanced, subtle and yet visually interesting timepiece, to say the least.
  • The Everyday Carry Essential: Rustico Traveler’s Notebook and Wanderer Pen, $120 — Especially when visiting a new locale (and even when visiting an old haunt), a stylish leather notebook will come in handy when inspiration strikes — or when you simply want to remember that exact cocktail recipe.
  • The Socks: Taylor Stitch Merino Socks, $22 — Don’t discount the importance of stylish socks, especially this comfortable, anti-odor pair from Taylor Stitch.
  • The Leather Wallet: Bellroy Slim Note Sleeve, $89 — Stay sleek, streamlined and stylish with a slim leather wallet that keeps your valuables safe — no extra bulk required.

From top to bottom, head to toe, I’d say you’re not going to go wrong with this look for an evening enjoying your favorite cocktails. We’re keeping your look fresh and modern by swapping a blazer for a rugged work jacket, and then pairing up that piece with a classic white Oxford shirt for go-anywhere seasonal style (and yes, you can wear that combo at the office, too). From there, slim black jeans help carry the day by providing a nice mix of edgy style and a sharp silhouette — again, critical if you’re visiting a hip haunt in town. Of course, the right pair of rugged leather wingtip boots has to be what makes this outfit all work; the pair shown here from Moral Code are practically begging to be worn out on a fine fall or winter evening. Excellent essentials are also critical to keeping your ensemble streamlined and stylish, from a slim leather wallet to stylish socks and of course, stylish leather notebook to jot down tasting notes, recipes or random musings. And when hitting up your favorite cocktail bar, the small details seemingly get a bit bigger — take your wristwatch, then upgrade it from the average with the best leather dress watch — then prepare to watch the compliments roll in. This ensemble might look a bit different from the look you were first envisioning, and in my mind, that’s A-OK — it’s all about unique style and nuanced, subtle details. This look might even make your whiskey taste that much better — but again, that’s all up to you. Thanks for reading, and happy whiskey hunting (and tasting!).
