Today marks the start of another very special weekend, particularly as we take The Style Guide on the road — namely, I’ll be at the incredible Austin City Limits Festival today through Sunday with my lovely fiancee Laura! Granted, things kicked off with the first weekend of this two-weekend festival, but we’ll be seeing it all for the first time. We’ve made a habit of hitting up some incredible music festivals this year, from the excellent Mo Pop Festival (featuring Bon Iver) to the small-time feel of Audiotree Music Festival and of course, The National’s Homecoming Festival. On tap this weekend? Well, first things first: Sir Paul McCartney. And immediately prior to his Friday headlining set? Well, of course, The National. Elsewhere on the bill, we’re looking forward to sets from the likes of Arkells, CHVRCHES, up-and-coming California rockers Wallows & dance pop favorites Sylvan Esso — that’s just a small, small start! We also hope to check out some other sights in Austin, including Austin Eastciders and STAG Provisions, one of my absolute favorites when it comes to menswear across the board. Do you have any must-see spots in Austin that you’d recommend? Let me know on Twitter! Thanks for reading, my friends.
- If you happen to be a fan of the Velvet Underground, chances are, you’ll like the news that several music luminaries (including personal favorites like The National and Mr. Julian Casablancas) have curated their own playlists celebrating the legendary group, all as part of a special New York exhibition running through December. Check it out for yourself if you happen to be in the city this fall and winter!
- On the menswear front more specifically, I can’t stop circling back around to the Danner Mountain 600 Boots, as an essential and comfortable pair of fall boots. Without a doubt. Agreed?
- Speaking of fall boots: I’m re-upping this post right here and right now as we get into the spirit of fall — check out my picks for the best men’s work boots over at GearMoose.
That’s going to close out this edition of the Friday Read — in the words of the immortal movie “School of Rock” … “Let’s rock today.” That’ll be all!
