The Friday Find: The Warren Montcalm Wool Trousers Will Help You Ease Into the Season In USA-Made Style

We often return to the idea that when it comes to relatively rare USA-made menswear finds, well, there’s a reason that’s a seldom-seen category these days. As you might say, “they don’t make ’em like they used to,” and yet, when it comes to New England-based Warren menswear… things are actually the opposite.

As you might have encountered when scouring the pages of this site, Warren keeps things close-knit in the best way possible, working with New England factories and producers to craft a handsome run of old-school-inspired gear, from athletic-minded throwback sweatshirts to durable yet supple flannel shirting and expertly crafted tees. That approach and attention to detail shines through in the tight-knit collection, but you can still get dressed from head to toe with Warren, as the company also makes ballcaps in addition to pocket tees and some of the best flannel shirts for men (at least, in my experience). The real star of the show, at least in my neck of the woods? The Warren Montcalm Easy Trousers, crafted from dependable navy melange wool.

The company notes that “as we worked with this wool blend fabric more and more, we couldn’t help but experiment with it,” leading to the 91% Wool, 8% Nylon and1% Spandex blend that was milled by American Woolen in Stafford Springs, CT and sewn by New England Shirt Co. in Fall River, MA.

Talk about keeping things local and regional, with the end result proving highly stylish and perfectly easygoing, yet polished enough perhaps to wear with a cardigan and a chambray shirt.

It’s all too easy for a brand to take shortcuts these days, to outsource production or find a cheaper way of doing things, and while it’s certainly not economical for the menswear lovers like you and me, it tends to make a heck of a lot of difference when you find a brand doing precisely the opposite.

From a durable-as-can-be rugged chore coat to a vintage-inspired sweatshirt and a stellar, small-batch run of utterly classic chinos, Warren checks off the proper boxes as far as menswear classics and timeless wardrobe building blocks are concerned.

The brand is a new one on the scene, but ranks up near the very top when it comes to my favorite American-made menswear brands — and if I had to wager, I’d say the Warren Walden Chamois Shirt should only strengthen that feeling.

The Warren Walden Chamois Shirt starts with a sturdy 7.05oz. organic cotton twill fabric from American Woolen (the cotton is grown and spun in the American South, the company notes). Followed by brushing and garment-dying in New Hampshire, you’re left with a near-perfect chamois shirt, one that should prove utterly soft yet dependable out of the box, and entirely ready to make your own.
