The Friday Read: Trekking West to Arizona with Hamilton Watches

In my many freelance writing pursuits — covering everything from spirits to menswear to watches, trekking to Mexico with 1800 Tequila , visiting Boston with Joseph Abboud and more — I value tried-and-true essentials for my #OOTD.

Essentials like one of the best watches for men, of course, which just so happened to be the focus of my latest press trip. Suffice to say, staying on time in style, with rugged functionality top of mind, is the name of the game this Friday (and beyond), my friends. And it was a truly one-of-a-kind experience, which you very well might know if you follow me on Instagram.

The experience in question? Earlier this week, I had the chance to journey West with none other than Hamilton Watches, the legendary American producer of military and field timepieces (and an innovator in the timekeeping space since its founding in 1892).

The experience was unlike any other, as myself and fellow watch writers took the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical and Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition (this time on a new NATO strap) out into the field and the high heat of the Arizona desert.

On tap, aside from luxurious accommodations at the Andaz Scottsdale Resort and Bungalows? A thrilling desert off-road vehicle ride while wearing our Hamilton Watches timepieces, followed by a breezy and at times speedy river raft ride down the Salt River (once again, our Hamilton Watches timepieces proved mighty useful).

The trip was capped off in thrilling fashion with a sunrise hot air balloon ride — and yes, once again, we trusted our Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical and Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition watches (my timepiece of choice) to get the job done.

Best field watches for men.

All the while, each of us found just about everything from Hamilton Watches to be tough, durable, easy to read in terms of legibility and timekeeping, and ready to stand up to the elements — be it dust, water or a hot day’s breeze. They even outfitted us with durable Hamilton caps, crucial in the Arizona desert.

I’ll have much more to come on Hamilton Watches via my many freelance writing pursuits, but for the price and the performance, this is a USA-made watch brand you can surely trust when you need it the most.

And of course, you can find Hamilton Watches and more at sites like Huckberry, which is also a tough thing to pass up. For powering your weekend, look to one of the best men’s watches — and look forward to two weekend style posts incoming on this very blog. As always, thanks for reading and stay stylish!

See Now, Buy Now: This Hamilton Khaki Field Watch is Your New Favorite Watch

A durable, rugged and stylish watch from Hamilton.

So, you want one of the best men’s field watches, you say? But you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg (read: Over a grand) — where’s a guy to go? That’s easy. Head to Uncrate to get a deal on the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Watch, a standout timepiece that offers heritage quality, rugged performance and classic styling potential in spades. Better still? It’s available for $545 via Uncrate, a heck of a bargain when you consider that this is truly an investment-level watch.

It’s befitting of the Hamilton name, with deep roots in aviation and field watches, and this Hamilton Khaki field watch certainly checks all the right boxes for the modern man. The stainless steel case in a rich and field-ready colorway contrasts nicely with the subtly stylish dial markings, all the better if you aspire to wear this watch out and about on fall adventures, not to mention days on and off the trail. Plus, the 80-hour power reserve means you can go a good while without having to wind this watch by hand (the difference between a mechanical and automatic watch movement). Any way you look at it, this rugged timepiece is destined to become your new favorite watch.

A rugged field watch to wear every day this fall.

And the great thing about a military-inspired field watch is that it really is true to form, recreating the types of timepieces worn by soldiers through the years. It features sturdy construction and a nicely sized 38mm case diameter to match. Don’t forget 50 meters of water resistance, either — wear it in the summer or the fall with ease. Whether you pick up the brown colorway or opt for the more sleek Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical in Black, you’re getting plenty of bang for your buck — and a healthy dose of seasonal style, too.

This is the sort of classic field watch you can throw on with dark selvedge denim, a Western shirt and a rugged chore coat, or else rock with your favorite T-shirt for a casual fall morning at home. However you choose to wear the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Watch, you can be sure it’s ready for anything you’ve got on your fall to-do list.

Men’s Style Christmas Wish List

Thanks to thoughts from Siblings With Style’s female perspective, the Christmas spirit is alive and well in the Great White North…er, Michigan’s Siblings With Style hub. Personally, holiday season shopping is a pretty easy time to pinpoint what’s affordable and attainable for gift-asking — and what’s simply not. But without further ado, (and if Santa’s willing to splurge a little … or a lot), here’s what’s on my ultimate wish list this year.

The Bond Peacoat

By Billy Reid. As worn by 007 himself.

By Billy Reid. As worn by 007 himself.

While it’s essential to have a good navy peacoat on hand, there’s something special about this one. It could be the fact that it’s worn by everyone’s favorite secret agent in the latest Bond film, but the biggest draw is the quality and luxury it represents. Billy Reid is famous for high-quality goods and American style, and this peacoat is a classic wardrobe staple. Now about the price…

Clarks X Horween Chromexcel Leather Desert Boots

A beautiful burgundy leather.

A beautiful burgundy leather in a classic silhouette.

It’s clear that a good desert boot is a true style essential, but this pair takes the tried-and-true Clarks silhouette and bumps it up a notch, using rich Chromexcel leather in a great burgundy shade (among others). By taking a classic outline and ramping it up with unique and beautiful materials, they’ve created a hot collaboration with style to burn. This piece isn’t nearly as pricey as the Bond peacoat, for example, but from the looks of things, it’s still worth every penny. And more than worthy of my list, to boot … (pun intended).

Allen Edmonds Strand Cap-Toe Oxfords

A fantastic-looking, investment-worthy shoe.

A fantastic-looking, investment-worthy shoe.

Shopping on a budget for versatile and classic-looking pieces can make it difficult to splurge on the big-ticket items, items that will last decades or even longer. The Allen Edmonds Strand Cap-Toe Oxfords are a shoe more than worthy of that title, and more than worthy of envy. The American-based shoemaker’s items always seem to generate exceedingly positive reviews and have remarkable durability. In the case of this pair of shoes, they’d stand out with nearly any suit, from charcoal to navy or light grey. For one pair of shoes, they’re more than worth the sticker price.

Hamilton Khaki Field Watch

Black and brown? In a watch? Yes and yes.

Black and brown? In a watch? Yes and yes.

Although those two dominant colors might seem out of sorts, when it comes to watches, black and brown just … work together. And this case is no exception. It’s a enviable watch for yours truly, without a doubt. Hamilton watches are right at the edge of the ultra-expensive price point — they’re getting up there, but not unattainable necessarily. However, don’t mistake their quality — they’re absolutely a heritage watch company providing heirloom pieces. Maybe a watch to match those shoes above, too…

So that’s my personal Christmas wish list. Any thoughts or feedback? What’s on your list? Leave it in the comments below!
