The Thursday Buy: This Harry’s Cologne Is One of the Best Colognes Men Can Buy For Spring (And Beyond)

Best colognes for men to buy this spring.

Welcome to Thursday, my friends. While we tend to stay more focused on the best menswear for guys to buy now, along with accessories like the best watches and travel gear, it’s not all that often we stray from the patch and discover the best men’s grooming of the moment, but it’s no less essential.

The adage is simple: If you’re putting care and attention into how your go-to denim shirt fits, the cut of your favorite waxed trucker jacket or the patina on a must-buy pair of leather boots, shouldn’t you place similar emphasis on how you’re getting ready for every day (date night very much included)?

The answer is a resounding yes, and that’s where Harry’s enters your medicine cabinet (if you don’t yet have some Harry’s men’s grooming essentials on hand already, that is).

A mainstay in the men’s grooming space for well over a decade now, Harry’s has been positively everywhere these days, as the brand does much more than make some of the highest-quality and easy-to-buy men’s razors on the market. Its shipping and bundle or subscription services made it easier than ever for guys to get an exceptional shave at home for much, much less — I’ve certainly loved trying Harry’s razors over the years.

In fact, it’s easier than ever to sign up for the service and not worry about where your next razor refill or your next shave is coming from — the finishing touch is smooth, the experience is simply excellent and hey, Harry’s men’s grooming products make great gifts, at least in my experience.

And Harry’s has expanded well beyond shaving into everything from beard care, face wash and moisturizer, a full set of hair wash and styling products, and yes, today’s piece de resistance: Harry’s Cologne, specifically Harry’s Cowboy Classic Cologne, one of the best colognes you can get your hands on (or rather, add as a finishing touch to your routine) this spring.

Over the past few months, Harry’s Cowboy Classic Cologne has entered my fragrance rotation to great effect, with notes of pink pepper leading to cedarwood and amber. Plenty of five-star reviews point to its quality, and you should know that Harry’s offers two other scents — and you can score all three in sampler form, for good measure. A guy’s scent rotation needs as many options as his boot rotation, does it not?

The overall effect captures the Wild West and a classic yet rugged scent without going overboard — in matters of scent or price (seriously, you can score a bottle of Harry’s Cowboy Classic Cologne for a mere $35). The frosted glass bottle is an ultra-premium design touch, while the scent has proven long-lasting (again, in my experience) — a bit goes a long way, my friends.

Of what could be your new signature scent, Harry’s said “it’s the stillness of dusk settling over wide horizons” captured in cologne form. If you ask me, it sounds like your next #OOTD just met its match in terms of a fragrant, thought-provoking finishing touch this season.

See Now, Buy Now: This Ranger Station Leather & Pine Cologne Is a Perfect Spring Fragrance Upgrade

Best spring cologne for men.

We talk often on this Brooklyn style blog about doing things with intention, like taking good care to find the right spring style essentials (and the right essentials in any season), be it your choice of rugged leather boots, expertly crafted denim or a proper selection of seasonal outerwear.

But what about your grooming rotation? While we love brands like Taylor Stitch and Buck Mason on the blog, the proper grooming and fragrance certainly shouldn’t be overlooked.

It’s a bit more tricky to nail down, but no less important when it comes to, again intentional style and even personal expression. And yes, my friends, that’s where a company like Ranger Station comes into play.

Perhaps you’ve stumbled upon Ranger Station in its Nashville home — a place where the great outdoors meets a sense of adventure and rough-and-tumble good times. Ranger Station embodies that ethos with a sense of old-world cool and a modern edge — its fragrances and candles are some of my personal favorites, with scents that are rich, rugged, masculine and yet refined and versatile, all at once. The company offers up collections that run the gamut from light and airy to intoxicatingly rich, and its products come in everything from spray cologne to candles.

Suffice to say, Ranger Station has serious chops, including collaborations with musicians like Waylon Jennings and Noah Kahan: High-voltage fragrance with a tasteful flair to it.

To hear the company tell it, Ranger Station delivers “premium, made in USA fragrances and candles inspired by the great outdoors that will create a fresh, clean, and sustainable experience for your environment.” I couldn’t have said it better myself, but it can be a lofty prospect to add a cologne to your rotation (or to select one as a starting point). The brand is bold and fun, however, making it worth your time to take a closer look, I’d say.

Choosing a scent to add to your rotation is a personal process, one that should consider how and where you’ll be wearing your new favorite cologne, and even the outfits you’ll be using that Ranger Station fragrance to complement. And for my money’s worth, there’s nothing quite like the crisp yet rich Ranger Station Leather & Pine Fragrance.

In fact, there’s an entire collection dedicated to the rich, versatile Ranger Station Leather & Pine Fragrance, from candles to room spray to the cologne that’s going to add a spritz of outdoorsy scent to your next #OOTD.

Amber, leather and sandalwood come together handsomely in this fragrance, one of my personal favorites — while it’s a worthwhile pairing alongside more casually rugged outfits, like a henley, trucker jacket and black jeans, I find the Ranger Station Leather & Pine Fragrance can be used to add some appeal to business casual situations (think of pairing cologne with a look like you’d think of pairing shoes with an ensemble, in a way). However you chose to make your foray into the world of spring fragrance, you might have just found the perfect scent — and the perfect company — to take the leap.

The Friday Read: Filson’s Sem-Annual Sale, The Best Summer Colognes & A New Huckberry Watch

Folks, welcome back to another edition of the week-closing Friday Read here at The Style Guide, where we’ve got a lot of ground to cover. Let’s start with the fact that yes, as the headline would imply, the Filson Semi-Annual Sale just kicked off, and it’s got a ton of the best summer style essentials up for grabs. It’s rare that a retailer like the famed Pacific Northwest heritage outfitter offers up the best in-season gear (and gear for the seasons ahead!) at a discount, so you’d do very well indeed to check out the Filson Semi-Annual Sale.

The rest of the way forward this weekend, well, I’d recommend you keep things rolling along with a few choice style reads below, of course. As for me? I have stories to write up for SPY.com as well as Effortless Gent, and in the midst of it all — including recovering from my standout trip to London last week! — I’ll be prepping for yet another trip.

The jaunt in question? A return to Michigan for the wedding of a longtime college friend (Go Green!), plus some Fourth of July celebrations. What’s on the docket for you? Besides, of course, checking out my recommended menswear shopping and reading picks? Without further ado, let’s get into it below. Cheers, my friends.

  • If you happen to read the blog on the regular, consider this one a bit of a refresher — there’s a standout new, perfectly rugged, highly stylish watch up for grabs right now at Huckberry, and the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro Diver Titanium is well worth the investment. The timepiece, as I wrote about here on the blog, celebrates the Swiss watchmaker’s 140th anniversary, and it does so with both excellent looks and high-performing capabilities in mind. Check it out for yourself ASAP.
  • Summer is high time to refresh plenty of things all around — be it your wardrobe or your travel plans, or your summer scent. Think light and airy, and of course, head on over to Maxim to read about my latest guide to the best summer colognes.
  • I’ll leave you with one more recommended style pick from my neck of the woods. The best shorts for summer are a must-have in these casual, increasingly hot times, so you’d do very well to keep it locked here on the blog and check out the Mack Weldon Maverick Tech Chino Shorts, as written about by yours truly. They’re as good as it gets for summer, my friends.

That’s going to wrap things up for my latest Friday dispatch, my friends — here’s to a great start to the holiday weekend, and here’s to stepping out in style this summer. As always: Thanks for reading!
