#OOTD: How to Style a Denim Jacket This Winter

When you think of winter style essentials, your mind probably doesn’t jump to a denim jacket … does it? After all, the denim jacket is a layering essential that’s ready for spring, summer and fall, but not winter. Right? Wrong. When worn the right way, a denim jacket can absolutely work in winter. Maybe not during a blizzard or as you dress for the polar vortex, but on a day with temperatures above freezing? The denim jacket can work wonders, folks — today’s #OOTD is going to show you how. It’s all about accessorizing accordingly, reaching for warm winter essentials like an American-made cashmere scarf and prepping accordingly with a stylish casual leather watch. We’re building it from the ground up with essentials like a rugged henley, slim stretch chinos and tough shearling-lined boots, for starters. And the rest of the picks? Well, you’ll just have to read up below. Let me know if this is a #OOTD you’ll be breaking out over these next couple weeks — good luck out there!

Pairing a denim jacket with a rugged henley is an A-plus style move, folks.

The Denim Jacket: Todd Snyder Made in Los Angeles Denim Jacket, $298 — Leave it to Todd Snyder to make a simply outstanding, well-cut, well-crafted denim jacket — ideal for layering up.

The Henley: Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Henley in Natural, $68 — Taylor Stitch has the perfect winter henley for you, made from sustainable, durable fabric.

The Scarf: American Trench Cashmere Scarf in Charcoal, $180 — Because we’re still taking on winter weather, the handsome American Trench Cashmere Scarf is the one to buy now.

The Chinos: Grayers Newport Stretch Modern Fit Chinos, $98Slim tan chinos — especially the Grayers Newport Stretch Modern Fit Chinos — add a bit of casual refinement to this look.

The Boots: Rancourt & Co. Shearling-Lined Dresden Boots, $365 —  Want stylish winter boots that are going to work twice as hard to keep your feet warm? The Rancourt & Co. Shearling-Lined Dresden Boots are that pair precisely.

The Watch: Szanto Vintage Dive Watch 5205, $224.98 — Remarkably rugged, well-made and casually stylish, the Szanto Vintage Dive Watch nicely offsets your tough denim jacket and classic henley.

The Socks: CHUP Dia Socks, $35 — This outfit balances classic neutrals with rich texture — so, the CHUP Dia Socks add some nice pattern, comfort and style. Bingo!

The Beanie: Topo Designs Merino Wool Beanie, $45 — What’s the perfect capper to this outfit? The warm, stylish Topo Designs Merino Wool Beanie.

See, doesn’t it make more sense that a denim jacket can work in the winter? It’s all about what you pair it with — the rich, deep indigo of Todd Snyder’s made-in-America denim jacket pairs right up with the perfect winter henley
from Taylor Stitch, which in turn nicely offsets the Grayers Newport Stretch Modern Fit Chinos — is there a combo more classic than that? Hardly. Accessories like the crucial Topo Designs Merino Wool Beanie and the well-made (but admittedly pricey) American Trench Cashmere Scarf are going to help you fight the chill accordingly. On the footwear front, it’s hard to go wrong with a rugged pair of winter boots, especially the remarkably tough Rancourt & Co. Shearling-Lined Dresden Boots. Stylish socks are a must no matter the season, and the warm, visually interesting CHUP Dia Socks add just enough color and pattern to this outfit. Of course, a rugged casual watch is just what you need to bring it all home — the Szanto Vintage Dive Watch was practically made for pairing with an outfit like this one. So, what say you? Will you throw on this ensemble for winter in the weeks ahead? Let me know via The Style Guide Facebook page.

#OOTD: How to Dress for a Casual, Stylish Winter Weekend

We’re powering through winter in fine fashion still, right? Right? OK, well … it’s admittedly getting tougher to slog through the chill out there, but someone’s got to do it. And that someone, even when it comes to dressing for a casual winter weekend (a la today’s #OOTD) …. is you, my friend. Looking put-together and yet laidback is a tough balance to strike, to be sure. That’s where we at The Style Guide are here to help. It can certainly be done when you reach for textured basics, like slim navy sweatpants and rugged chukka sneakers, both of which should keep you warm (and upright) on a brisk winter’s day. Even if the only item on your agenda happens to be a morning coffee run and plenty of Netflix, let’s make sure we put our best foot forward (literally) in today’s #menswear ensemble. We’re going to get in going with the Nau Utility Down Field Jacket momentarily, but I’d urge you to follow me on Twitter or Instagram if you want more style-minded content and dressing suggestions. For now, that’s all I’ve got — onto the outfit!

A great jacket, warm sweatpants and a rugged henley are all you need in this weekend #OOTD.

The Jacket: Nau Utility Down Field Jacket, $305.98 — From the neat texture to the sustainable construction and warm down filling, the Nau Utility Down Field Jacket can really do it all.

The Henley: Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Henley in Olive, $62 — When you’re layering up a rugged field jacket, your best bet is a tough henley from Flint and Tinder.

The Sweats: Outerknown Lowtide Sweats, $74.98 — Comfy, cozy sweats are a weekend style essential, and the tailored, well-made Outerknown Lowtide Sweats are a solid bet for yours.
The Sneakers: SeaVees Bayside Moc, $106 — Want the comfort of a sneaker and a build similar to that of your favorite chukka boots? The SeaVees Bayside Moc is the way to go.
The Socks: CHUP Dia Socks, $35 — In an outfit filled with solid basics, these stylish patterned socks add some welcome color to a winter-friendly ensemble.

The Watch: Komrade White Pointer Watch, $799.98 — Since this outfit is both durable and casual, a durable, casual watch like the stunning Komrade White Pointer Watch is the one to wear.

The Beanie: Topo Designs Merino Wool Beanie, $45 — Before you step out of the house, make sure your rugged winter accessories are on point, capped off with the Topo Designs Merino Wool Beanie.

The Bag: Matador Transit Tote Bag, $39.99 — A grab-and-go tote bag is an easy way to stow your everyday carry, and the Matador Transit Tote keeps things lightweight and functional.
Who else is ready for the weekend? Like, right now? When you’ve got stylish pieces that look this good and keep you warm at the same time, I’d wager we’re all looking forward to Saturday and Sunday. The Nau Utility Down Field Jacket really is a piece that can work during your 9-to-5 grind as well, but it’ll serve as a stylish topper to your Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Henley and those tailored, sustainable Outerknown Lowtide Sweats. And can you go wrong with ridiculously durable accessories like the investment-level Komrade White Pointer Watch, the casual-yet-versatile SeaVees Bayside Moc and the CHUP Dia Socks? Certainly not, my friends. I also love the Matador Transit Tote for its blend of sleek looks and dependability (on paper, at least). And to top it all off, throw on the Topo Designs Merino Wool Beanie. That’s all there is to it, folks. For now, stay stylish!

#OOTD: What to Wear on Valentine’s Day This Year

If you can believe it, Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us — an occasion that calls for your best effort on multiple fronts, from dressing to impress to planning a meaningful, memorable evening for your significant other (or heck, just yourself). We’ll be tackling a bit of a tailored style situation for Valentine’s Day in today’s #OOTD, one that’ll help you nail the right balance between dressed up and laidback — it’s no black-tie ensemble, to be sure, but it looks crisp, sharp and classic (at least, I think so). Note the use of slim dark denim — as versatile as it gets — and another classic style staple, the Taylor Stitch Telegraph Jacket. We’ll keep things going with refined leather Chelsea boots and a stylish dress watch, too. I won’t spoil the good stuff — you can check out the full set-up below, and feel free to weigh in on Twitter with your feedback! Good luck out there.

Mixing up staples that you’ve already got, including a sharp navy jacket and clean dark jeans.

The Jacket: Taylor Stitch Telegraph Jacket, $278 — Yes indeed, my friends — your trusty Taylor Stitch Telegraph Jacket was practically made for an occasion like this one (particularly a fancy-but-not-too-fancy dinner or night out).

The Shirt: Grayers Oakleigh Classic Oxford Shirt, $88 —  A cleanly designed, no frills white Oxford shirt is practically bullet-proof — the Grayers Oakleigh Classic Oxford Shirt is as good as it gets.

The Denim: Flint and Tinder Dark Indigo Jeans, $128 — When cut slim and sharp, and done in a deep indigo color, classic blue jeans can certainly work for a night out — yes, even Valentine’s Day.

The Pocket Square: The Tie Bar Free Fall Floral Pocket Square, $10 — This outfit could use just a bit of color and pattern — this subtly stylish floral pocket square is a strong move (but not too strong).

The Boots: Astorflex Bitflex Tan Leather Chelsea Boots, $170 — Sleek, sharp Chelsea boots are a fine complement to the rest of this outfit’s straightforward-yet-stylish staples — step into ’em.

The Belt: Ezra Arthur No. 1 Belt in Tan, $100 — A slim, refined dress belt can be tough to find, unless you end up buying the Ezra Arthur No. 1 Belt. Keep those accessories on point, folks.

The Watch: LTHR Supply T3 Watch, $179.98 — What’s even more important than a stylish dress belt? A unique, stylish leather watch, like the LTHR Supply T3 Watch.

The Finishing Touch: Fulton & Roark Hatteras Solid Cologne, $42 — You need to consider all the small style details on Valentine’s Day (and other days, for that matter). The Hatteras Solid Cologne is one way to do that.

When it comes to Valentine’s Day — however much you might overthink the other aspects of it — your outfit should certainly be one less thing to worry about. In that regard, let’s go classic and straightforward, starting with the Taylor Stitch Telegraph Jacket and the suitably appropriate Grayers Oakleigh Classic Oxford Shirt — two bulletproof options that look great any day of the week. The truly excellent Flint and Tinder Dark Indigo Jeans  are a great building block for this outfit, while the sleek Astorflex Bitflex Tan Leather Chelsea Boots are a suitably appropriate complement to the rest of the ensemble. Accessorize away with the Ezra Arthur No. 1 Belt and the LTHR Supply T3 Watch, two picks that could quickly become favorites outside of a dressy Valentine’s Day. Oh, and the Hatteras Solid Cologne helps keep your grooming game on point all through the night. So, that’s that. What do you think? And again, good luck out there, wherever the night might take you!

#OOTD: Wear Your Crewneck Sweater The Right Way This Winter

OK, ladies and gentlemen … let’s get down to business today on The Style Guide. In the case of today’s #OOTD series entry,  that means we’re taking a style staple you know and love — the classic crewneck sweatshirt — and showing you how you should be wearing it this winter. Of course, there are all kinds of ways to wear the right crewneck sweatshirt, including with classic dark denim and a sturdy set of winter boots. We’re sticking along much the same lines today, yet drawing some inspiration from across the pond. That’s right … you know who can wear the heck out of a stylish crewneck sweatshirt? Mr. David Beckham. He’ll take a piece like the Flint and Tinder Reversible French Terry Sweatshirt as seen below — OK, perhaps not that exact sweatshirt — and he’ll wear it pieces much dressier (like sharp leather Chelsea boots). So, that’s the direction in which we’re headed today. For what it’s worth, we’ll also be throwing on pieces like a great winter jacket and a casual pair of blue jeans … for that full Beckham effect. If you’ve got any thoughts on the below #OOTD, I look forward to hearing ’em over E-mail or at The Style Guide Facebook page!

Feel free to pair your crewneck sweatshirt with classic (and slightly dressier) style staples.

The Sweatshirt Flint and Tinder Reversible French Terry Sweatshirt, $78 — Here’s possibly the perfect crewneck sweatshirt we’ve been talking about — slim-fitting, well-crafted and easy to layer & wear. Job nicely done, Flint and Tinder!

The Jacket: Baro The DeMarco Jacket, $262 — Perfect for layering over a rugged crewneck sweatshirt (you guessed it!), the weather-read Baro DeMarco Jacket can more than readily work in spring atop lighter layers, too.

The Denim: Flint and Tinder Dark Indigo Jeans, $118 — Dark, sharp blue denim, like the Flint and Tinder Dark Indigo Jeans, are foolproof with any outfit — especially ensembles that feature a mix of casual and tailored pieces.

The Boots: Astorflex Bitflex Chelsea Boots in Tan Leather, $170 — Just like Mr. Beckham, mash up this mostly laidback outfit with the Astorflex Bitflex Chelsea Boots, which pack a serious punch with classic dark denim or a tailored suit.
The Belt: Tanner Goods Standard Belt, $84.98 — If you know me, you know I recommend never, ever skimping on accessories — like the Tanner Goods Standard Belt seen here.
The Watch: Huckberry Seiko Dive Watch, $319.98 — Because this outfit is filled with rich neutrals, from a broken-in crewneck sweatshirt to sharp blue denim, a tough dive watch with a sporty vibe works just fine.
The Socks: CHUP Reindeer Socks, $24.98 —  Have just a little bit — seriously, only a bit — of fun with this outfit thanks to patterned, winter-friendly socks from CHUP.

The Beanie: BANKS Stripe Insignia Beanie, $25 — A stylish beanie cap is practically a winter essential, and the BANKS Stripe Insignia Beanie injects just a bit of visual interest into this outfit.

I hope that #OOTD did the trick in terms of how to wear a crewneck sweatshirt this winter — a well-fitting, well-made piece like the Flint and Tinder Reversible French Terry Sweatshirt is practically the ideal building block off of which to incorporate more tailored staples. And those tailored staples would happen to be? Why, a crisp-yet-functional jacket like the Baro DeMarco Jacket, plus bulletproof jeans like the Flint and Tinder Dark Indigo Jeans — are you still with me here?  Subtly stylish accessories like the CHUP Reindeer Socks and the sporty BANKS Stripe Insignia Beanie add just enough visual interest to this outfit. On your wrist, the Huckberry Seiko Dive Watch keeps the focus squarely on the rest of this outfit’s key pieces — lest we forget though, you need a versatile belt to round it all out. My friends, the Tanner Goods Standard Belt is that piece. And with that, we’re all set with this week’s #OOTD! What’d ya think? Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks for reading — as always!

#OOTD: How to Wear a Flannel Shirt to the Office This Winter

You know the classic flannel shirt for its rugged good looks and dependable protection from the cold, but what if I told you there was a way to wear your new favorite flannel shirt to the office? Yes, my friends … it can be done.  The right flannel shirt, ideally in a more tailored cut and featuring a classic-yet-office-friendly pattern, is out there just waiting for you to snap it up. Specifically, we’ll talk all about the Mizzen+Main Durham Flannel Shirt today, a performance-minded flannel that just so happens to fit all of the above qualities we discussed — starting with that crucial tailored fit. We’ll team it up with reliable slim chinos, durable leather boots and other quality pieces that’ll look sharp on Casual Friday and sharp at the bar for happy hour. After all, it’s always helpful to dig into new ways to wear upgraded classics, especially when the doldrums of winter start to hit. Let me know via The Style Guide Facebook page what you think of the below #OOTD, and let’s get to it!

The Flannel Shirt: Mizzen+Main Durham Flannel Shirt, $110 — Here’s the tailored flannel shirt we mentioned above, made with soft fabric and featuring four-way stretch for easy layering and sharp looks.

The Sweatshirt: Flint and Tinder Reversible French Terry Sweatshirt, $78 –Yes, a rugged crewneck sweatshirt can also work at the office — you just need to pair it with the right pieces.

The Pants: Flint and Tinder 365 Pants— These classic slim five-pocket pants also happen to be made with a bit of stretch for ease of movement.

The Boots: Red Wing Merchant Boots in Ebony, $260 — Take your notions of Red Wing Heritage as a work boot-only brand and flip ’em — the Red Wing Merchant Boots are tough and yet also office-ready.
The Belt: Ezra Arthur No.1 Belt, $100 — Keep your accessories simple yet refined — the Ezra Arthur Belt perfectly fits the bill.
The Socks: CHUP Reindeer Socks, $24.98 — Invest in the best — or some of the best — with these winter-friendly socks that nicely blend comfort and style.
The Watch: LTHR Supply Co. T1.1 Watch, $199.98 — The right watch can go a long way to pulling together an outfit — in this case, the LTHR Supply Co. T1.1 Watch is dressy and stylish, the perfect complement to this high-low outfit.
The Wallet: Taylor Stitch Minimalist Billfold in Brown, $98 — Keep this look appropriately streamlined with a slim wallet from the good folks at Taylor Stitch.

That’s going to wrap up today’s #OOTD in fine fashion, I’d wager! When you step out in a tailored flannel shirt, you’ve given yourself a nice base in terms of mixing and matching with pieces that are both rugged and sharp at the same time. The Red Wing Merchant Boots nod toward tough outdoor style, while classic slim chinos pull things together on the business casual side of the equation. The cool and slightly cheeky CHUP Reindeer Socks  add a dash of fun to this outfit, while the Ezra Arthur Belt also acts as a sharp business casual accessory. Should you find yourself in need of a striking, visually interesting watch, the LTHR Supply Co. T1.1 Watch is also suitably sharp. And again, the Mizzen+Main Durham Flannel Shirt is quite the way to start off an outfit, featuring a cool pattern and excellent fabric. Is this a look that you’ll be trying out? Let me know in the comments!

Such is the case with today’s #OOTD, where we’re taking an expertly faded pair of denim from Flint and Tinder, then matching it up with easygoing style staples for a look that’s just as at home at the bar on a Friday night as it is on a Saturday morning coffee run. We’re talking rugged moc toe boots, a classic crewneck sweater and an innovative stretch flannel shirt — yep — all brought together in one ensemble. And combined with a sturdy-as-heck peacoat, you’re going to stay warm, stylish and cozy this season. It’s helpful to look at pieces that you love in a bit of a different light, and hopefully, this #OOTD is one way for you to do that in the new year. Have questions or comments? The Sweatshirt: Knickerbocker Navy Crew Fleece, $85 — When is it worth it to shell out more than $80 for a rugged crewneck sweatshirt? When said sweatshirt is made with excellent quality by New York’s Knickerbocker Mfg. Co.

Seeing classic pieces done in different ways — like the helpful stretch in the aptly named Pickman Stretch Plaid Shirt from United By Blue — is a good way to get your new year headed in the right direction. Even classic blue denim with just the right amount of fading, as seen in the  1-Year Wash Jeans from Flint and Tinder, can be a welcome departure from the norm. When you finish off the outfit by layering up a rugged crewneck sweatshirt and stepping into the unique-yet-dependable Natural Vibram Sole Camp Boots, I’d say you’re well on your way to cozy, comfortable style. #OOTD: Refresh Your Tailored Style for the New Year

With the start of a new year comes certain resolutions for each of, including those related to #menswear. At least, that’s the case for me, and I hope you’re on board if you regularly read The Style Guide. We talked last week about what you’ve got in mind as far as men’s style resolutions go — how are yours coming along? While it can be a broad challenge to retool or build up your wardrobe from square one, the below #OOTD is going to focus on mixing some pieces you probably already own in a way that you might not have thought of before. It’s a little more tailored, a little more unique and a bit more fun — all good things when it comes to revamping your look for the months to come. You’ll find a classic Oxford shirt teamed with tailored trousers and stylish wingtip boots, each of which you might already have in your closet — that’s not so bad, right? Adjusting to classic pieces worn in new ways is half the battle right there. So, let’s go into the coming weeks and months with an open mind, with some stylish winter accessories and with an ensemble that’s office-ready and visually striking. Here we go.

A refreshed way to dress in tailored style for the new year.

The Topcoat: Abercrombie & Fitch Italian Wool-Blend Topcoat, $180 — A la Mr. James Bond in Skyfall, the navy topcoat is striking, sharp and perfectly ready to wear to the office. This one is nice &  affordable, too.

The Shirt: Flint and Tinder Soft-Washed Oxford, $98 — A comfortable and tailored Oxford shirt is the right balance between casual and formal — it all comes down to what you wear it with. Speaking of …

The Scarf: Corridor NYC Check Scarf in Black, $80 — This Corridor NYC Check Scarf is well-made and — perhaps most importantly — visually interesting when paired with the A&F navy topcoat. A stylish scarf is definitely one way to refresh your look for the new year.

The Trousers: Taylor Stitch Telegraph Trousers, $178 — If you normally find yourself wearing some combo of American-made denim and a flannel shirt in winter months — as I often do — the sharp, tailored Taylor Stitch Telegraph Trousers are a heck of a step up in terms of style.

The Boots: Hudson Shoes Fernie Boots, $240Durable winter boots that manage to blend office-ready style with functionality? Yep, that’s where the Hudson Shoes Fernie Boots come into play.

The Socks: American Trench Boot Socks in Oatmeal, $29.50 — The right pair of stylish socks can do more than just keep your feet warm and comfortable — they can look good, too. The American Trench Boot Socks get it done.

The Watch: Shinola Canfield Watch, $650 — A suitably tailored outfit calls for a sleek, well-designed watch to match — and that’s why the investment-worthy Shinola Canfield Watch is a worthwhile New Year’s upgrade.

The Finishing Touch: Fulton & Roark Shackleford Solid Cologne, $42 — If you want to dip your waters into wearing cologne, a low-key, solid option — like the Shackleford Solid Cologne from Fulton & Roark — is an advisable move.

Stepping into a new year can be intimidating, so the way you dress and get ready for your daily life shouldn’t be — that’s how I view it, at least. It’s a process that gets easier as time goes on — plus, a jolt of self-confidence from a sharp look helps things along. And when you mix and match foundational pieces with dressier, more unique offerings, like pairing the Flint and Tinder Soft-Washed Oxford with the  Corridor NYC Check Scarf and a tailored topcoat, the results are stylish and just different enough. The handsome Taylor Stitch Telegraph Trousers help ground the outfit in winter style territory, while the Hudson Shoes Fernie Boots offer rugged functionality and dependable style. You also shouldn’t forgo essential accessories like the American Trench Boot Socks or a clean and classic watch — the  Shinola Canfield Watch is going to work more than ably with this #OOTD. Want to add another level to your ensemble? Finish things off with the Shackleford Solid Cologne. If you own any of these pieces, or if you’re thinking about trying out this look yourself, feel free to drop by The Style Guide Facebook page to let me know!

Good luck out there, and thanks for reading!

#OOTD: Here’s The Best Way to Dress in Tough Winter Style

My friends, I can barely believe it … but it’s time for the first #OOTD of 2018 here on The Style Guide! That’s pretty monumental, if you ask me. And you can rest assured that we’ve got more of the same great content on the way this year as in years past — particularly if you want to dress in weather-ready style. It’s time to bundle up and fight the chill, without sacrificing any comfort or good looks. Think of it like dressing for the polar vortex … but without the doomsday aspect of extreme winter weather. Rather, the below #OOTD is designed to get you from point A to point B without any fuss, from weekend errands to a weekend dinner with friends. Start out with a tough winter jacket from Iron & Resin, keep things going with a stylish pair of brown leather boots, add your new favorite henley … and get ready to take on the winter weather. The below #OOTD has everything you need … at least, I think so.  Let me know what you think of this look on Twitter or in the comments. Stay warm, stay stylish!

From a classic winter jacket to a tremendous pair of leather boots, this is the gear to get you through winter reliably … and stylishly.

The Jacket: Iron and Resin Barracks Jacket, $342.98 — With a silhouette that echoes a classic field jacket, plus a weather-ready Melton wool exterior, the Barracks Jacket from Iron and Resin is versatile and rugged.

The Henley: Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Henley, $62 — What’s better for braving the cold than a rugged henley? Especially one from Flint and Tinder, a favorite of this blog? Feel free to add a stylish flannel shirt over this Flint and Tinder henley if you need more warmth.

The Denim: Flint and Tinder Dark Indigo Jeans, $118 — We’re going again with more Flint and Tinder gear, this time a dependable pair of classic blue denim featuring the brand’s new dark indigo wash. Durable, rugged and USA-made.

The Boots: Oak Street Bootmakers Brown Dainite Sole Trench Boots, $462 — It’s always tough to narrow down your pick of boots for the winter weather, but these fantastic Horween leather Dainite Sole Trench Boots from Oak Street Bootmakers are a pretty darn easy choice. Stomp through snow all ya want.
The Belt: Filson Leather Belt, $85 — The right belt for tackling winter weather isn’t a braided cotton belt that you’d wear during the summer … it’s a rugged, well-made Filson Leather Belt. No bones about it!

The Watch: Military Watch Co. MIL-TECH MKIV Military Pilot’s Chronograph, $330 — Just as you can’t skimp on your rugged winter boots, you can’t skimp when it comes to your watch game — although the name is a mouthful, this Pilot’s Chronograph should serve you well in the snow.

The Socks: CHUP Dia Socks, $28Stylish patterned socks should be a go-to in any season — the fact that the CHUP Dia Socks just happen to be cozy and comfortable is a big bonus.

The Beanie: Finisterre Fisherman Beanie, $40 — Again, we’re not just going with any beanie cap here … we’re going with a dependable-as-heck Finisterre Fisherman Beanie. Good enough for the water, good enough for you.
If a winter storm catches you by surprise, or a bunch of snow gets dumped on you unexpectedly, it’s best to have the right gear in your closet to get you through. To me, that means the Barracks Jacket is one to reach for when things get dicey, yet you still want to look put together. Dependable footwear also goes a long — the Dainite Sole Trench Boots from Oak Street Bootmakers are positively stunning and well-crafted, ready for winter snow. Supporting accessories, from that tough Pilot’s Chronograph to warm CHUP Dia Socks, are equally underrated yet essential. For the rest of the winter season, I wouldn’t leave home without the  Finisterre Fisherman Beanie or a dependable mid-layer like the Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Henley. And although they’ll work reliably throughout the rest of the year, the Flint and Tinder Dark Indigo Jeans are a great go-to when it comes to stylish blue denim for winter. Are there any picks you particularly agree with? Disagree with? Chime in via the comments below — thanks for reading!

It’s the last #menswear hurdle of the year, on the last day of the year — New Year’s Eve, and all the trappings that come with it. So, we’re coming at you with a special Wednesday #OOTD. As we all know, that tricky search as to what to wear on New Year’s Eve can be, well … tricky. It depends, of course, on where you’re going and who you’ll be with. #OOTD: How to Dress for a Stylish, Casual Christmas This Year

There’s no time to waste this holiday season, which is why we’re talking today about how to dress for a casual Christmas. It’s coming up sooner than you think — VERY soon, in fact. If you still need a gift for your brother, dad, uncle, father-in-law — heck, any guy — check out this year’s men’s holiday gift guide. Oh, and before we get to today’s #OOTD, you’re going to need a gift for her: Check out this year’s women’s holiday gift guide right now (hurry!). Still need to dress for a holiday party? Check out this recent #OOTD. Now, to the main event.

Dressing for a casual Christmas should, first and foremost, be laidback and fun. After all, you’re likely spending the day around a warm fire, surrounded by good company and a few items off your men’s style wish list. Even if you find yourself away from your home (say, visiting your significant other’s parents), the below #menswear look is appropriately cool and easygoing — not sloppy. Trust me, getting you dressed in style for Christmas is a Style Guide tradition that goes all the way back to … this blog’s first year, 2013! Check out the OG post here. Now, as today’s look: It delivers the goods. From a standout denim jacket to fight off a brisk day to a casual T-shirt, stylish Taylor Stitch sweatpants and comfortable American Trench socks, every base is covered. Except for the gifts under the tree — that’s still on you. Happy shopping and enjoy these next few days in style!

The right mix of easygoing layers and casual style staples — Merry Christmas!

The Jacket: WP Standard Denim Jacket, $119 –This stellar denim jacket can be layered over a sweater or a tee with ease, and it lends a bit of rugged polish to this ensemble. Plus, it looks great to wear to a Christmas Day movie or a decidedly laidback brunch.

The Tee: Mott and Bow Heather Gray Crewneck, $32 — The makers of your favorite pair of jeans have now set their sights on the perfect T-shirt; the results are cozy, comfortable and more than ready for Christmas Day style.

The Pants: Taylor Stitch Travel Pants in Black Fleece, $88 — Suffice to say, we don’t recommend sweatpants too often here on the blog, but the Taylor Stitch Travel Pants are that rare pair of stylish sweatpants that manage to look more cleaned-up than sloppy. Go ahead, have another cup of cocoa & kick back by the fire.

The Sneakers: Gola Classics Harrier Woven Trainer, $90 — Now, if you happen to be dealing with a white Christmas, these classic and sporty sneakers might have to stay in the closet. But if not? These woven textile sneakers slip on and off with ease for holiday travel and holiday party-hopping.

The Socks: American Trench Kennedy Luxury Athletic Socks, $19.50  — Want stylish socks that combine a bit of retro, sporty style with comfortable fabric? That’s what the Kennedy Luxury Athletic Socks from American Trench can do for you. No socks with holes while padding around the house this season!

The Briefs: Flint and Tinder Micro-Bamboo Boxer Briefs, $34 — The right underwear — like the Flint and Tinder Micro-Bamboo Boxer Briefs — can go a long way in keeping you comfortable while relaxing over the holidays.

The Watch: Form-Function-Form Horween Leather Chronograph, $118.98 (On Sale) — From the classic navy dial to the handcrafted leather strap, this Form-Function-Form leather chronograph (featuring Timex) is a winner when it comes to casual holiday style.

The Cap: Filson Watch Cap, $45 — Keeping warm and toasty is crucial if you’re dealing with cold weather this Christmas — the Filson Watch Cap accomplishes that in style.
Holiday 2017
And with that, I’ll leave you to all of your last-minute holiday shopping. Was this #OOTD helpful? Staying casual and comfortable, yet stylish, comes down to picking the right pieces and the right fabrics. Rather than reaching for slouchy, old sweatpants, throw on the  Taylor Stitch Travel Pants  for a pair of stylish sweats featuring significantly upgraded fabric and a tailored fit. When it comes to your T-shirt, swap in a tailored heather gray tee from Mott and Bow (or a classic chambray shirt, if you want to go just a bit more dressed up). Your footwear should be similarly versatile yet laidback, so textured sneakers from Gola nod toward the season in an easygoing manner — don’t forget sporty, stylish American Trench socks. Take it from me: They could be the last sock brand you buy. Winter accessories also can (and should) blend fashion and function — the  Filson Watch Cap is a great example of that approach. And to round out this casual look, a classic Timex watch offers both visual interest and situationally appropriate style. Before we go, don’t skimp when it comes to your undergarments; the Flint and Tinder Micro-Bamboo Boxer Briefs should be in your shopping cart now. Thanks so much for reading, happy holidays and Merry Christmas!
