The Knit Jacquard Snap CPO from Relwen is perfect to wear with slim grey chinos, tough moc toe leather boots and your favorite henley, naturally.

Try wearing these stylish moc boots with slim faded denim and a classic crewneck sweatshirt.
Luminox Xcor Aerospace Pilot Professional Watch — $1,900

One heck of an advanced-yet-stylish timepiece.

Mission Belt Full-Grain Italian Leather Belt — $74.95
Mission Belt

A new way to design and wear a belt, with a great cause in mind.

As seen on Shark Tank, Mission Belt really is like no other belt company out there, from the fact that its belts have no holes (they use a neat slide-and-clip mechanism instead!) to the fact that a dollar from every belt goes toward micro-loans to help entrepreneurs in developing countries. After testing it recently, I love the Cognac Italian Leather Belt as seen above.
Ash & Fir Upstate Candle Trio — $54

Three candle choices that mimic the scent and feel of lovely upstate New York.

Especially as we roll through winter, don’t overlook the importance of stocking up on the best candles for your home or apartment. You get three nicely scented candles here from Ash & Fir, luckily.

A pair of jeans that look great and help the environment? That’s more than worthy of a purchase.

We’ll close out today’s edition of The List by looking at stylish men’s denim that’s also made with a mission in mind — Outerknown’s Local Straight Denim is sustainably made, and the handsome Faded Indigo wash is a new way to wear your favorite denim that’s much better for the environment. Plus, this stylish pair of jeans features a classic (not too skinny or baggy) fit.
So, from slim jogger sweatpants to an incredible technical watch from Luminox, we really covered something for everyone today, did we not? Which pick was your favorite? The Friday Read: New York Fashion Week, Huckberry x Danner & Revtown Denim

Lace up your boots and hit the road this weekend.

Now, the question on your mind today should be: What stylish leather boots am I going to wear this weekend? And where will they take you? When you lace up a pair of boots like the Thorogood Dodgeville Boots, you can really go just about anywhere on this fine February weekend. So, let’s get down to business. We’re capping off a busy whirlwind of a week here in NYC — things really took off in earnest on Monday, as I attended New York Men’s Day, an initiative designed to showcase emerging designers as part of New York Fashion Week (one of my favorite times of year, assuredly!). Things kept rolling with a busy double bill on Monday night, as lauded American menswear designer Todd Snyder (my menswear hero!) showed his excellent Fall/Winter 2019 collection to kick off NYFW. Naturally, the evening was followed by quite the afterparty!

Other activities throughout the week included the Grungy Gentleman Fall/Winter 2019 runway show, a collection of athleisure-heavy, sport-inspired gear blended with tailoring (think French terry blazers and slim jogger sweatpants). It’s with all of that behind me that I’m very much looking toward a relaxing weekend in Brooklyn and Manhattan. On the docket for me — besides quite a few cups of coffee and some tasty craft brews — is a concert by NYC indie singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten, in support of her excellent January album “Remind Me Tomorrow” — the fact that it’s taking place on Saturday, and at the historic Upper West Side Beacon Theatre is icing on the cake! So, that’s the rundown of things in my neck of the woods. I’ve got some more menswear writing to do in the meantime, but for now, enjoy the best men’s style news of the week.

  • Stop searching for your next pair of denim — I think I found it, and I think they come from Revtown. I covered this versatile, durable denim brand (based in the Rust Belt cities of Pittsburgh and Baltimore) for The Manual, so you’d do well to dive into why the brand is making your new favorite pair of jeans.
  • It’s never too late to start the hunt for the best sneakers for spring — just like the pair I wrote about recently! Grab the Huckberry Vintage Trainers now, then keep them handy when it warms up!
  • Speaking of the best new menswear, I’d urge you to act quickly — very, very quickly — to get a pair of the excellent new Huckberry x Danner Vertigo 917 Goldrush Boots, which I wrote about for Effortless Gent last month. As great as it gets for winter, assuredly!

Still not finished with your pre-weekend reading or shopping? We’ve got just what the doctor ordered — start with the best new chukka boots to buy now. Or, keep things cozy and laidback with a classic henley from Faherty Brand. Last but not least, go for rugged, classic style with the Todd Snyder x Champion line and the Todd Snyder x Champion Crewneck Sweatshirt. That’s all I’ve got for you today — cheers & enjoy the weekend!

See Now, Buy Now: The Flint and Tinder Flannel Button Down is the Best Flannel Shirt for Winter

This classic flannel shirt is American-made & truly timeless.

Looking for a new shirt to upgrade your winter style in a hurry? Our See Now, Buy Now series can undoubtedly help — witness the truly excellent Flint and Tinder Flannel Button Down pictured above, for starters. It could just be your new favorite flannel shirt, and it’s not hard to see why. Your Brooklyn-based editor particularly loves the Red Plaid Flannel shown above (is that too on-the-nose for Brooklyn?), but each of three standout color options are winners when it comes to the American-made Flint and Tinder Flannel Button Down. If you peruse the pages of the blog with any frequency (which you certainly should!), you know that we always appreciate and recommend gear from Flint and Tinder, the in-house brand at Huckberry that makes everything from your favorite Oxford shirt to the perfect pair of blue denim. And again, you can add this classic flannel shirt to that list — especially with winter still bearing down on us.

This is more than just your average casual shirt, though. The  Flint and Tinder Flannel Button Down is essential on so many fronts, from the tailored-but-not-too-tight fit (ideal for layering over a classic slub henley), right on through to the rich Red Plaid color (again, my personal favorite). The price is also agreeable for a flannel shirt made in the States — especially one that’s made from 100 percent Portuguese cotton flannel.

In essence and in reality, the Flint and Tinder Flannel Button Down is quite possibly the best flannel shirt you need to make any outfit great — that goes for office-ready looks like a tan herringbone blazer and charcoal trousers, or more casual ensembles (I.E. A rugged crewneck sweater and faded denim). Truly, the Flint and Tinder Flannel Button Down has nearly limitless styling potential, and that’s great news with Valentine’s Day on the way. In short, you won’t tire of wearing the Flint and Tinder Flannel Button Down — hurry up and snag yours now.

#OOTD: How to Dress for Valentine’s Day This Year

So, Valentine’s Day is coming up. Whether you’re married or in a relationship (an old one or particularly, a new one!) or still looking for love, the question might be on your mind: “What the heck am I going to wear?” Based on your plans (Dinner? Drinks? Both!?), you might be faced with a dilemma. But I think the below #OOTD checks all the right boxes, no matter what. First up, stick with a classic winter blazer, and then layer up accordingly — in this case, that means a cozy, tailored flannel shirt from Faherty Brand, slim navy chinos and rugged leather boots from my pals at Huckberry. It’s truly foolproof.

Granted, we’re not going full-on tuxedo here, nor are we recommending you wear one of the best flannel suits for a night out, but it’s still a sharp look that can work for a refined dinner-and-a-show outing, plus a nightcap. The key with dressing for Valentine’s Day comes in staying true to yourself — seriously. If you and your partner keep things low-key and make a nice dinner at home, leave the Grayers sportcoat behind. Heck, if you feel like wearing that same blazer out to a solo cocktail at your favorite bar, sure — go for it! The same building blocks are going to carry you through, from crucial outerwear like a tailored topcoat to accessories like a slim leather dress watch. We’ll top things off with a great Valentine’s Day gift, too. It’s all below, and I hope these picks lead to an enjoyable (if Hallmark-led) holiday — no matter what you do!

A crisp blazer, a sharp topcoat and stylish leather boots make for a winning Valentine’s Day #OOTD.

Even if this ensemble doesn’t quite line up with your Valentine’s Day plans, it’s hard to argue against the type of versatile building blocks it offers up — right? Starting with a winter blazer from Grayers gives you the flexibility to take your date (or heck, just yourself) out to drinks at a cool speakeasy or a refined sit-down dinner — or both. The stylish flannel shirt seen here is also made to be worn more casually — untucked at home, watching your favorite TV show — and it works in dressy situations, too. It could just be the best shirt for Valentine’s Day.

The same can be said for slim navy chinos from Taylor Stitch, which work for a ‘staycation’ or a night at home. You’ll also stay weather-ready with the Rhodes Dean Boots, some of the best winter boots out there — it helps that they provide great traction and killer style. We’re keeping things on-point with a slim camel topcoat, and we’re further driving home that refined aesthetic with a refined dress watch. Of course, it’s also of the utmost importance that you pick up a great gift for Valentine’s Day. And lest we forget … yes, you need good-looking underwear. Flint and Tinder can help. Feel free to let me know your plans for Valentine’s Day on Twitter — to see how I’m spending mine (likely enjoying a delicious craft beer!), you can check out my Instagram

Amogan 1844 Chronograph — $349

A sharp dress watch you’ll want to wear on the daily.

Now, here’s that stylish leather watch we talked about. It can be hard to find the right black leather dress watch, seeing as it’s more specific and often more expensive. But the About Vintage 1844 Chronograph delivers in every single area.

Taylor Stitch California Shirt in Charcoal Everyday Chambray — $118

Red Wing Heritage Rover Boots in Hawthorne Muleskinner — $270

Red Wing Heritage

Dependable boots from an iconic brand.

Now, we previously covered another iteration of the Red Wing Heritage Rover Boots (in this post), but this new take on the classic style is worth investing in, as well. Rich Hawthorne Muleskinner leather and timeless construction make these an instant winter style bet.

Stagg Products Fellow Pour-Over Kettle in Copper — $99

Faherty Brand Heritage Fleece Crewneck — $138

Faherty Brand

A classic crewneck sweater from a timeless brand.

Another stylish winter layering option from Faherty Brand takes the cake. The Heritage Fleece Crewneck is cozy, soft and assuredly one of the best men’s crewneck sweaters. Wear it with expertly broken-in denim and your favorite pair of chukka boots.

Outerknown Blanket Shirt — $145

Outerknown

A classic winter shirt, made with style and eco-conscious practices in mind.

We keep recommending the stylish and sustainable menswear at Outerknown — and in particular, the Outerknown Blanket Shirt — because it’s an excellent, comfortable layering essential for winter. I’d say you should pair it with the Heritage Fleece Crewneck from  Faherty Brand.

Levi’s Work Pants in Harvest Gold — $69.50

Tough work pants from an iconic brand.

Durable, dependable and every bit as classic as you’d expect from Levi’s, these stylish work pants would pair perfectly with rugged moc toe boots and a bold shawl collar cardigan.

Aer Gym Duffel 2 — $150

Take on the day with this stylish gym duffel.

For the modern man on the go — that’d be you — add the reliable Aer Gym Duffel 2 to your list of everyday carry essentials.

The Citizenry Peruvian Wool Abrazo Blanket — $198.98

A warm, cozy winter blanket.

There’s nothing quite like wrapping up in a new favorite blanket on a chilly winter day — both you and your partner will appreciate The Citizenry Peruvian Wool Abrazo Blanket.

That’s going to wrap up today’s edition of The List. Which of the above picks did you like the most? I’m a big fan of both the Red Wing Heritage Rover Boots and also of course, the incredibly stylish, easy-to-build Three-Seater Sofa from Burrow. Let me know your thoughts on these picks on Twitter!

The Friday Read: Vancouver, Arkells & Hawthorne Grooming

The perfect gear essentials for any situation — all from Bradley Mountain and Bespoke Post.

It’s the first winter weekend of February — to me, that means it’s time for you to enjoy another Friday Read and also, perhaps, time for you to shop some new men’s style essentials from the good folks at Bradley Mountain. As seen above (and as sold by Bespoke Post), Bradley Mountain stocks exceedingly stylish and well-crafted leather goods, particularly fitting for winter travel. Speaking of winter travel, well, that’s the theme for yours truly this weekend — I’ll be heading to the great Western city of Vancouver for quite the exciting trip tonight. It’s a particularly special adventure, as I’m hitting the road to see Canadian mega-stars Arkells play a sold-out Pacific Coliseum on the “Rally Cry” Tour! They’ve become one of my favorite bands over the years (including three packed NYC shows at small clubs) — what’s more, they’ve got quite the support act in Lord Huron! But mainly, Arkells epitomize passion and work ethic with their uplifting blend of rock and power pop.

In fact, last year’s “Rally Cry” album was a huge favorite. To see a band play to about 300 people in Brooklyn — and then to be able to watch that same band sell out a 17,000-seat arena in its home country — is pretty special, to say the least! Aside from the show, what should I do in Vancouver? Let me know of any must-visit spots on TwitterAnd to follow along with my trip, head to my Instagram. For now, I’ve got some writing to wrap up before I hit the road — start your weekend with the right way with a new edition of the Friday Read, and be sure to enjoy tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week. Cheers!

  • Recently, I had the chance to get acquainted with a new brand that stocks custom men’s grooming essentials aplenty — that brand would be Hawthorne, based right here in NYC. They make customized cologne, body wash & soap using a grooming algorithm and quiz that’s pretty neat — and the process yields some quality results. You can read the full men’s grooming review over at The Manual!

Alright, before we go … I’ll leave you with a few more crucial menswear reads and shopping suggestions. Namely, upgrade your crewneck sweatshirt with this classic crewneck from Todd Snyder x Champion. You really won’t regret it. Or, you can scratch that itch when it comes to the best new menswear for winter, via a recent entry in our shopping series The List. OK, ready for the weekend? Same here! Thanks so much for reading.

Of note, they channel the same timeless construction and quality for which Red Wing Heritage is known, and the brand’s Minnesota roots sure do come in handy — the Red Wing Heritage Classic Chukkas feature an Atlas Tred outsole, plus nickel eyelets for durability throughout the chilly winter. While you might be better off wearing the Huckberry Duck Boots in an extreme blizzard, the Red Wing Heritage Classic Chukkas are as good as it gets the rest of the time. They’re also affordably priced at under $200 for the type of style and quality you’re getting, including the comfortable leather-lined interior and the use of premium suede and leather on the upper.

A low profile and a gum rubber sole make these an excellent sneaker purchase.

The clean design of the Huckberry Vintage Trainers is also to be applauded, from the noticeable lack of branding to the cool gum rubber sole. That sort of design means these sneakers are tailor-made to wear with a classic shawl cardigan, your favorite pair of faded denim, and a rugged henley for a winter coffee run. But the beauty of a classically designed pair of sneakers like the Huckberry Vintage Trainers is that they can work when you need to go a bit more tailored, too. Try out the Huckberry Vintage Trainers with a tan herringbone blazer, a classic chambray shirt and slim black denim at the office on a more casual day, or pair them with a tailored wool suit and that same chambray shirt for a mix of high-low style. Add a refined leather watch and perhaps a classic peacoat, then call it good. Keep in mind, folks, that’s just how you can wear them during the winter months! You’ll want to keep them handy to pair with slim shorts and a stylish graphic tee on many a spring weekend, too. But for now, your first priority should be snapping up a pair of the Huckberry Vintage Trainers before somebody else does. Hop to it!

The Friday Read: The Best Men’s Blazers, The Top Bomber Jackets for Winter & A New Brewery in NYC

A handsome, timeless shirt jacket from one of my favorite brands.

Don’t waste any more time gearing up for the weekend, because style essentials like the Taylor Stitch Summit Shirt (it’s on sale here!) are going to help. That’s the focus of today’s Friday Read, at least — dressing in peak winter style with rugged shirting from Taylor Stitch, then adding a few extra touches (like one of the best men’s bomber jackets — more on that in a second). The Summit Shirt (as seen above) featured a durable wool-poly waffle knit & is part of the brand’s run of new outerwear, so you can be sure it’s up to snuff. How else are you dressing for the weekend? And what’s on your agenda? For me personally, I’m excited to check out a bit of a different show here in NYC than I’m normally used to attending. Two college friends from my time at Michigan State will be in town to see “The Waverly Gallery” by acclaimed director Kenneth Lonergan — it should be a very touching, moving performance. And again, it’ll be a bit different than the rock shows I frequent!

  • We’re also looking forward to exploring Prospect Park in Brooklyn, having a cup or two (or three?) of excellent coffee, and perhaps even tracking down a cold beer from Manhattan’s newest brewery, Torch & Crown Brewing Co.! The new brewery is distributing two styles across beer bars in Manhattan (an IPA and a lager) — it’s exciting stuff. While brewing has been thriving in Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx, it’s hit a major lull in Manhattan itself — until now. Follow along on my Instagram to see how these beers taste, and to see what one wears to a grab a beer and then head to a Broadway play. Cheers to the weekend, and cheers to today’s Friday Read
  • The bomber jacket is an underrated style move in the winter months, when everyone seems to be reaching for thick parkas. But if you’ve read my post on The Manual on the best men’s bomber jackets, you know that’s not the case. And if you haven’t read it yet? It’s time to get caught up!
  • Let’s talk more about the best of the best in terms of men’s style essentials, shall we? Namely, it’s been a busy week of menswear writing around these parts, which is how I also found myself writing about the best blazers for men — a piece I penned yet again for The Manual. You could do worse than upgrading your office style this month, my friends.
  • Once more, you could use a new dress watch — yes? Luckily for you, I covered the top dress watches to buy now for GearMoose. Between your new bomber jacket, your new blazer and a new dress watch, you’re going to be all set this winter.

Before we let you go for the weekend, I’ll leave you with this post on the best new leather wallet to buy now. What’s more, I’ll also point you in the direction of the 12 best style upgrades (yes, 12!) to keep 2019 rolling. Oh, and one last thing: This stylish field jacket  belongs your back as you fight a chilly winter. OK, that’s a wrap — feel free to check in with me on Twitter if you’ve got any feedback on the blog. Have a great weekend, folks!
