#OOTD: This Is How to Wear Your New Favorite Jacket for Early Fall

If it feels wild to you to be talking about how to dress for early fall, rest assured that you’re not alone. Why, just yesterday, it seemed like we were talking about how to wear chukka boots for summer or even how to style your polo for spring. With all that being said, we’re standing now in mid-August, looking toward Labor Day and the gradual shifting of the seasons. Fall is my favorite time of year, and it’s quite the chance to make your men’s style essentials work for you. That being said, today’s #OOTD covers the kind of men’s gear you can start wearing right now, and then keep wearing on into October if you accessorize correctly (or heck, even longer than that if you live in a temperate climate).

It all starts with, as you’ll see below, perhaps the the best chore coat for men — the type of piece you can grab right now and wear atop a classic T-shirt, or have handy when it comes time to layer up with one of the best transitional shirts for men (as we’ve outlined below). Mix up layers as you please for that day hike, bonfire or to-go brewery visit, because the rest of the following picks (including workwear pants and packable waterproof boots) are ready to stand up to just about anything you’ve got in mind for late summer and into early fall. The full ensemble is below, so if you like what  you see, be sure to let me know the men’s gear essentials you’re picking up — find me on Twitter. Cheers!

A rugged chore coat and other men’s style essentials to move (slowly) from one season to the next.

Believe it or not, that brings us to the end of another #OOTD. Tough to believe, right? Hopefully, you’re a little more mentally prepared for the end of summer and the start of fall (sad, I know!). But that doesn’t mean you have to stow away your summer gear entirely — in fact, plenty of these pieces can easily qualify as early fall style essentials for September and October. That goes for the centerpiece of this outfit, a rugged jacket that’s easy to wear right now with lightweight pieces (a la that excellent rugged henley from Todd Snyder), as well as classic transitional pieces — hence, the classic men’s shirt shown above, too.

These pieces are rugged and adventure-minded (go off-trail or visit your cabin in style), all thanks to the Proof Rover Pants and some of the best men’s boots, a rugged and packable pair that doesn’t miss a beat in terms of style. Because who knows what plans you’ve got in store on or off the grid these days, I’m also recommending you snag one of the toughest shoulder bags to handle your everyday carry essentials. Naturally, to make sure you stay on time through it all, a stylish everyday watch belongs on your wrist, too. We’re not done yet, folks. No sir — because it’s still summer and all, some polarized sunglasses from Raen Optics are going to come in handier than you might think. While ending summer can be a bit of a bummer, it brings with it the promise of one of the best seasons for menswear: Fall! We’ll be right here at The Style Guide every step of the way to help you out.

I’ve had the chance to test out the delicious, nutritious and organic Kate’s Real Foods Snack Bites (I love the Peanut Butter and Hemp variety!), and I can’t recommend them enough. Easy to eat on the go, enjoyable to eat at home … a perfect summer snack.

OK, my friends. Phew! We covered a ton — and I mean, a TON — of ground today when it comes to the best summer gear. Be it a new necessity like  slip-on shoes to wear at home, a must-have essential like one of the best Bluetooth speakers for your home or something more classic for summer (your new favorite T-shirt comes to mind), I hope you found something to add to your shopping list. Lest we forget, the basics still matter here, so slim navy chinos and the best men’s grooming essentials are helpful, too. Like what you see? Be sure to let me know on Twitter. Thanks for reading!

Style Pick of the Week: Flint and Tinder Light Wash Stretch Selvage Jeans

It might be the official start of summer as far as the calendar and your wardrobe is concerned, and the temperatures might be climbing by the day … so now is as good a time as any to pick up some of the best men’s light wash jeans for summer. Agreed? I know I’m certainly onboard with shopping for some of the best men’s denim, and there’s one pair in particular I’ve had my style-minded eye on — that’d be the Flint and Tinder Light Wash Stretch Selvage Jeans, as sold via Huckberry. I’ll keep it simple to start: These are some of the best men’s jeans on the market at the  moment, and they’re a more-than-worthy pick to add to your casual style rotation (or your work-from-home style rotation), no questions asked.

With Memorial Day on the way and some modified summer hangs surely in your future (a back porch with your family versus a raucous group rooftop outing), you’re still going to need some stylish light wash jeans to take the place of your shorts from time to time. Now, if you read the blog, you’re familiar with Flint and Tinder — the in-house brand at Huckberry specializes in all manner of rugged, well-made and investment-worthy menswear essentials, most of which are made in the U.S.A. — these slim light wash jeans included, to be sure (A side note: They also come in Tapered and Straight cuts).

The beauty in finding a great pair of light wash jeans, especially during these more casual and WFH-focused times, is that you can wear ’em with darn near anything. You can also feel good about doing it, seeing as these Flint and Tinder jeans are made from durable-yet-stretchy 12.6oz. denim right in Los Angeles. And again, the style pairings are nearly endless. In short: There are still plenty of opportunities to rock these stylish jeans all through the rest of spring and summer, even if your schedule this season looks a little bit different. Heck, the right pair of light wash jeans can still offer comfort and style, and maybe even the chance to  make some new memories while rocking ’em. And when the time comes to get back to living the life you know and love? The Flint and Tinder Light Wash Stretch Selvage Jeans are going to be right there with you.

See Now, Buy Now: This Flint and Tinder Shirt is the Season’s Perfect Shirt

Pick a pattern, any pattern — Flint and Tinder has you covered.

When it comes to finding one of the best shirts for spring — the sort of shirt that fits your lifestyle, your work and your seasonal plans perfectly — I’m going to throw one stylish shirt in the ring right now. My friends, allow me to introduce you to the Flint and Tinder Organic Double Gauze Shirt, an easygoing and laidback shirt you can wear in just about any situation you dream up. As you can tell by the photo up top, you’ve got your pick of the litter in terms of stylish colors and patterns when it comes to the Flint and Tinder Organic Double Gauze Shirt — and at its current price ($98 via Huckberry), perhaps it’s wise to consider picking up more than one option? I’ll leave that up to you, though. Let’s get into why this number is one of the best men’s shirts at the moment, shall we? The organic cotton twill fabric is breathable and easygoing, yet not so breezy that it’ll get overly wrinkled (that’s a job for a linen shirt — which could come in handy this summer). The Flint and Tinder Organic Double Gauze Shirt also has a double-body design — think of this as the equivalent of an inner lining for some extra pattern and punch, most easily seen at the cuffs (flip ’em up for some cool contrast).

My personal pick for one of the best shirts to buy this spring.

This classic spring shirt has the sort of quality construction and design you’d expect from Flint and Tinder, whether you pick it up in the breezy shade of Grey shown above (pair it with olive chinos) or in the bright Multi-Check (best paired with slim tan chinos and brown leather chukka boots). The overall effect of this shirt is one that’s as soft and comfortable as a flannel, yet in a lighter weight for those blustery spring days. Feel free to wear it unbuttoned over your favorite T-shirt or a rugged short-sleeve henley with faded denim, or else button it up and throw it on underneath a lightweight spring blazer. I’d say one thing is pretty clear no matter how you choose to wear it — the Flint and Tinder Organic Double Gauze Shirt is one of the best shirts for men, and it’s one you need on your back ASAP.

Style Pick of the Week: Flint and Tinder Quilted Waxed Shirt Jacket

A rugged, functional shirt jacket is a surefire winner regardless of where you’re going.

If you can believe it or not, I think I might have finally done it — I might have found one of the best shirt jackets on the planet. OK, joking aside, the Flint and Tinder Quilted Waxed Shirt Jacket really does deliver on all fronts when it comes to what you expect from a rugged shirt jacket, especially now that we’ve hit November, when layering up with the best fall style essentials is truly of the utmost importance. And when the going gets tough, there might not be a better brand to layer up with than the American-made menswear being crafted by Flint and Tinder (the always-excellent in-house line at Huckberry, as a reminder). What sets the Flint and Tinder Quilted Waxed Shirt Jacket apart from a crowded field of the best men’s shirt jackets? If at first the initial style potential and design didn’t jump right off the page, well, allow me to explain. This tough shirt jacket provides plenty of easy layering and insulation thanks to the diamond quilting and recycled Primaloft filling within — think of this as a grab-and-go layer to wear with your favorite pair of dark jeans whenever you need to get out the door in a hurry (or stroll leisurely to a weekend coffee date).

A rough-and-tumble design makes this rugged shirt jacket a surefire winner.

What’s more, the Flint and Tinder Quilted Waxed Shirt Jacket just so happens to be crafted with British Millerain waxed canvas, some of the best fabric in the world in terms of providing durability and functionality throughout the chillier parts of the year. In fact, it’s that fabric that gives this rugged shirt jacket an edge — it’s weather-resistant and made to stand up to just about anything. What’s more, the Flint and Tinder Quilted Waxed Shirt Jacket features chambray collar detailing for added comfort when layering up, and dual chest pockets give you critical space for those trusy EDC essentials. What more could you ask for? Well, how about hidden side snap pockets for even more storage space and streamlined appeal? Or perhaps you’d like a classic shirt jacket  finished with custom F&T branded buttons and an interior hidden drop-in pocket? Folks, the Flint and Tinder Quilted Waxed Shirt Jacket has all of that and more. Pick up yours ASAP for  fall.

This is more than just your average casual shirt, though. The  Flint and Tinder Flannel Button Down is essential on so many fronts, from the tailored-but-not-too-tight fit (ideal for layering over a classic slub henley), right on through to the rich Red Plaid color (again, my personal favorite). The price is also agreeable for a flannel shirt made in the States — especially one that’s made from 100 percent Portuguese cotton flannel.

Style Pick of the Week: Flint and Tinder Type 3 Sherpa-Lined Trucker Jacket

A stunner of a jacket, from a well-respected brand, to boot.

There are jackets that immediately get your attention, jumping off the screen and easily grabbing a spot on any list of the best men’s winter jackets — are we on the same page so far? Good, because the exceptional Flint and Tinder Type 3 Shera-Lined Trucker Jacket is a sight to behold, and I personally think it could be your new favorite denim jacket. That might be my bias talking — I sure do love the American-made style purveyors at Flint and Tinder — but if first glances say anything, then the Flint and Tinder Type 3 Shera-Lined Trucker Jacket is going to be mighty, mighty impressive. Much like its warm-weather counterpart, the Flint and Tinder Denim Trucker Jacket, the Sherpa-Lined Trucker delivers rugged, classic style in spades — starting with that iconic silhouette. It carries through to the stonewashed cotton fabric from which this tough denim trucker jacket is cut (not all that dissimilar from the Flint and Tinder Stonewashed Jeans, come to think of it). That sets the tone for a tough jacket that’s also surprisingly easy to layer. It’s ready-made to wear with all sorts of men’s style essentials, from a classic flannel shirt to a slim henley on your top half.

All the right details in all the right places here.

But, wait just a second … there’s more good news when it comes to this outstanding jacket. The use of one percent stretch should provide even more comfort and mobility, while the deep-pile sherpa lining gives the Flint and Tinder Type 3 Shera-Lined Trucker Jacket its name. Quilted polyester sleeve lining also makes it easy to slip this jacket on and off — it’s suitable to wear outside in chilly winter weather, yet shouldn’t prove too sweltering once you’re seated at the bar of your favorite brewery. And that’s another huge selling point when it comes to the Sherpa-Lined Trucker. The blending of a classic trucker jacket design with warm sherpa fabric means you can wear this as a winter travel jacket (thanks to the front-button chest pockets) or as a cozy extra layer atop a classic crewneck sweater during a weekend coffee date. To top it all off, custom hardware gives the Sherpa-Lined Trucker a unique, handsome finish. Oh, and it’s entirely made in the States, an extra touch that lends it that special feeling. Hopefully, you feel that way every time you put on the Sherpa-Lined Trucker. Don’t take my word for it, though. It’s yours for the taking.
