Style Pick of the Week: Harry’s Essential Travel Shave Kit

Harry's Grooming

Everything you need for a great shave — at home or on the road, courtesy of Harry’s.

Ever been stuck on the road without the means of getting the perfect shave you might be used to back home? Well, the Harry’s Essential Travel Shave Kit solve that problem for you. Now, I like to take care of my beard using simpler methods, so I haven’t personally broken out the Travel Shave Kit quite yet — but I can assure you that if Harry’s is the brand behind it, it’s gotta be good.  Having something so essential to carry with you is going to prove mighty effective as you dress for fall travel — and the Travel Shave Kit  also gives you an excuse to change up your stubble or beard for a new season. It’s everything you need to get a great shave, packed into a stylish dopp kit. The brand aims to be different, offering quality designs and a quality shave at a lower cost — in fact, $2 lower per blade than the big guys. That adds up in the long run — and the excellent blades & clean design are just part of what makes the Essential Travel Shave Kit so, well, essential for guys who hit the road frequently. And even if you don’t need to pack up the Travel Shave Kit every week, you still get even more bang for your buck (something we certainly love here at The Style Guide). In this case, Huckberry members get a gift card for four additional blades from Harry’s, in addition to the four that ship with the Travel Shave Kit. Oh, and those blades work hand-in-hand (blade-in-blade?) with the brand’s Winston copper-handled razor — your everyday shave, this is not.  That includes the bells and whistles it comes with — and in. Make sense?

Harry's

The brand’s copper-handled razor makes for a smooth and stylish shave.

Crucially, the Travel Shave Kit really is a full kit, seeing as it’s housed in a custom-made, water-resistant Harry’s dopp kit. What’s more, you get the brand’s famous shaving cream and post-shave balm included — seriously, is there anything the Travel Shave Kit can’t provide for the guy on the go? Well, OK … it can’t pack your stylish weekender bag. But other than that, it should be incredibly useful. After a long day on the road, it’s nice to freshen up with a crisp shave (says the guy with a full beard). At any rate, it’s tough to find something as thoughtfully designed and executed as the Travel Shave Kit — and at an excellent price, too. We’re talking under $50 for Harry’s Essential Travel Shave Kit— that’s blades, shaving cream and all. And the even better part? You can certainly use the gear from the Harry’s Essential Travel Shave Kit when you’re not on the road. The brand’s razors are an incredible value and incredible quality, or so I’m told. At any rate, the next time you pack up in style, your saving grace in terms of grooming essentials could be the Harry’s Essential Travel Shave Kit. We’re in the midst of a new season, so step your game up accordingly.

Do you have any experience with the Harry’s Essential Travel Shave Kit? Will you be taking the Travel Shave Kit  with you on the road this season?

#OOTD: Styling Your New Favorite Oxford Shirt for Summer

The best part about owning plenty of men’s style essentials is the freedom and flexibility they give you as you put together your next #OOTD — even in the warmer months. That’s certainly the case in today’s edition of our ongoing Style Guide series — we’re telling you all about how to wear a classic Oxford this summer. That’s right — a stylish Oxford shirt can be part of your #menswear rotation even when the mercury climbs. Although we associate the summer months with short-sleeve renditions of our favorite fall and winter staples — take the short-sleeve chambray shirt, for instance — you can still reliably wear a well-made Oxford shirt in the heat of summer … as long as you pair it with like-minded summer style essentials. Certainly, if you start with one of the best men’s Oxford shirts, you’re stepping out on the right foot.

And in the case of today’s #OOTD, that means we’re ditching slim light wash denim for stylish chino shorts — among other crucial moves to fight the heat. I won’t take up any more of your time, though — you can find the rest of today’s men’s style suggestion below. To get in touch with questions on styling your classic Oxford shirt, find me on Twitter, or drop a note in the comments below. Stay cool out there!

Huckberry

Take your favorite Oxford and mash it up with summer style essentials.

The Oxford: Flint and Tinder Texas-Made Oxford, $89 — Ahh yes, the shirt that makes this whole outfit work. From everyone’s favorite menswear purveyors at Flint and Tinder comes a Portuguese cotton shirt made at a family-owned factory. Roll up the sleeves and order a beer, ehh?

The Shorts: Finisterre Coverack Shorts, $66.98 — As seen in this site’s post on the best men’s shorts to buy this summer, these classic khaki shorts blend a modern fit with summer-friendly fabric.

The Sneakers: Novesta Star Master Sneakers, $57.98 Novesta— So, we’re talking stylish summer sneakers for under $60 when on sale? Seems too good to be true, but is a cult classic that makes an easily wearable set of kicks.

The Socks: Arvin Goods No-show Socks, $30 (Exclusive Three-pack) — Leave it to Arvin Goods to make a nice, Huckberry-excusive set of stylish no-show socks to keep your feet cool and comfortable in this #OOTD.

The Belt: Radius Woven Belt in Navy, $35 (When Signing Up for Bespoke Post) — Don’t step out of the house without the details accounted for — the Radius Woven Belt is a stylish, casual and affordable accessory (that is, when you sign up for Bespoke Post).

Greats

The Watch: Timex Waterbury in Natural Tan Leather, $84.98 — There’s nothing too fancy about this well-made, stylish Timex watch — and in the case of this casual ensemble, that works out just fine.

The Hat: Huckberry Explorer’s Cap, $39.98— Between the classic Oxford shirt and the stylish chino shorts, this outfit is certainly fit for any laidback summer activity you might find yourself in. Throw on a vintage-inspired ballcap for good measure.
Frank And Oak

The Grooming Essential: Harry’s Essential Travel Shave Kit, $49.98 — Certainly useful for more than just your next road trip, this Harry’s shaving kit has all the goods to keep you looking fresh and sharp for summer weekends.

If at first an Oxford shirt seems like it might be too stuffy to wear in the summer, think again. In the right fabric and fit — such as the fabric and fit of the Flint and Tinder Oxford shown here — this shirt can be every bit as versatile as your favorite polo shirt. As long as you team it with like-minded pieces (such as casual Finisterre shorts and classic summer sneakers), this combo is going to be cool and breezy. Seasonally appropriate accessories — like the classic Huckberry Explorer’s Cap, stylish Arvin Goods no-show socks and a handsome, versatile Timex Waterbury watch — also help set the tone as you dress for summer adventures. Last but certainly not least — keep your summer grooming in line with a well-priced and very useful Harry’s shaving kit. I guarantee that if you follow those steps, you’re going to be looking mighty sharp this summer — from the boardwalk to the patio bar, and anywhere else you go.

As always — thanks for reading, and stay stylish!

Style: Howler Brothers H Bar B Snapshirt — $69 OR Flint and Tinder 10-Year Hoodie in Navy — $89

A stylish short-sleeve shirt or a casual-yet-premium zip-up hoodie — your call, amigo.

Don’t get Dad any old shirt for summer. And certainly, don’t just buy him any old zip-up hoodie. For a unique upgrade to Dad’s weekend BBQ style, the Howler Brothers H Bar B Snapshirt features a unique print, vintage-inspired design details (which he’ll appreciate!) and the kind of easygoing style that’s perfect for a summer vacation. And for a more casually minded Dad? Who doesn’t love a premium zip-up hoodie? Yes indeed, the Flint and Tinder 10-Year Hoodie in Navy is the best zip-up hoodie on the market, perfect for casual weekend hangs.

Spirits: Be Home Copper Bar Set — $39.98 AND W&P Design Homemade Gin Kit — $47.98

Two picks for the dad who enjoys the art and nuance of a delicious cocktail.

Is Dad a big-time spirits enthusiast, the kind of guy who appreciates the art of a finely crafted cocktail? Bring a little of that same spirit home to him — after all, both of these gifts feature the functionality and smart, handsome design to fit right into a home study, den or kitchen. The Be Home Copper Bar Set is the all-in-one answer to mixing a delicious drink, and the W&P Design Homemade Gin Kit is the all-in-one answer to a key ingredient in said cocktail. Dad’s gonna love it.
Father's Day Gifts

Two options for two different kinds of dad — or maybe two gifts for the versatile dad?

If Dad’s a golf enthusiast, here’s the perfect gift to complement that new golf polo or putter (someone’s feeling generous this year). Make no mistake, the Nomo Design Augusta Print is entirely unique and eye-catching — perfect for Dad’s study. And if he’s more of a geography buff — or simply appreciates neat home décor? The Erstwhile World Political Wall Map is a super-premium (and yes, pricey) finishing touch.
Accessories, Part 1: Electric Leadbelly Sunglasses — $225

Sunglasses that seamlessly blend the retro and the modern.

File the Electric Leadbelly Sunglasses  firmly under your list of gifts for the “cool dad” — or the dad who just needs new shades. Electric makes its sunglasses with top-quality touches like Italian acetate and striking colors, plus the type of wearable style that fits in whether your dad is manning the grill or taking his favorite car for a spin on Sunday. He’ll be the best-dressed guy on the road — particularly if you also gift him the Howler Brothers H Bar B Snapshirt … right? Right?
Oxfords under $50 CAD_120x90
Accessories, Part 2: Armogan Spirit of St. Louis Chronograph — $159.98
Watches for Father's Day

A sharp watch that works for dressy or casual situations — something a watch buff can definitely appreciate it.

A stylish dress watch and sharp sunglasses go hand-in-hand, do they not? The Armogan Spirit of St. Louis Chronograph is a crisply designed watch that’s at once speedy, slick and … surprisingly office-friendly. Seriously — if you’ve got one of your own, you know what I mean. And if the dad on your list is an avid watch fan and wants a new — and distinctly wearable — timepiece to add to his collection, you’d do well to give him the  Armogan Spirit of St. Louis Chronograph.

A significantly upgraded shaving experience for Dad at a great price.

Is your dad on or off the beard bandwagon? At any rate, Harry’s does excellent work when it comes to quick, easy-to-use and easy-to-buy grooming gear for dads (and normal guys everywhere). You can (and should) engrave the razor stand for a customized touch, and the special storm gray handle is a clean, crisply designed edition made specifically for Father’s Day.

Sutro Shoes Inc.

Home Furnishings: Angelpoise Original 1227 Brass Desk Lamp — $342.98

A smartly designed, functional and stylish lamp for the clean-cut dad.

If great style is all about small upgrades — and if giving gifts is about getting someone something they’d never buy themselves — then look toward an underrated home décor opportunity for Father’s Day. Featuring classic design, handsome looks and the type of refinement befitting a stylish dad’s home study or office, the Angelpoise Original 1227 Brass Desk Lamp is at once smart and simple, necessary and very underrated. Oh, and yes … it’s expensive. But worth it for dad — right? (Maybe get the family to pitch in on this one, though).

Music: Barking Irons Rock n’ Roll is Dad T-Shirt — $49.00 AND “Meet Me in the Bathroom: Rebirth and Rock and Roll in New York City, 2001-2011 — $16.98 via Amazon

Two gifts for the dad who simply loves to rock.

Consider this music-themed gift set a one-two punch: Give one or the other, but for maximum impact — gift both. Barking Irons is a brand entirely inspired by downtown New York Cool, with its gritty tees crafted to be worn to a rock concert (or to the office under a navy blazer). And if Dad loves great rock music (heck, who doesn’t??), I’m positive he’ll be enamored by the recently released tome you see above, chronicling the history of NYC’s rock scene — again, the epitome of downtown New York cool — in the early 2000s. You up for it?

Alright, that’ll do it for this year’s Father’s Day gift guide. I hope the above list got your gears spinning — from the dad who loves style to the dad who loves iconic rock music, there aren’t that many ways to go wrong with the above gifts. You get comfortable, casual style via the Flint and Tinder 10-Year Hoodie in Navy, and you  get a few fancy spirit options via either the Be Home Copper Bar Set or the W&P Design Homemade Gin Kit. And lest we forget about handy everyday accessories, any dad could use upgraded sunglasses or a slick timepiece — the Armogan Spirit of St. Louis Chronograph could be the new watch to buy now. Don’t overlook the little things, either — essential grooming gear from Harry’s never goes amiss, and a thoughtful (and again, pricey!) home piece like the Angelpoise Original 1227 Brass Desk Lamp is a surefire winner. So … what are you getting Dad this year? Let me know in the comments, and good luck shopping!

#OOTD: Dressing for a Casual Christmas

Editor’s note: You’ve surely seen this hashtag lots of different places, including on Instagram. But how does that carry over to real life? The #OOTD series will take one great item and put together a versatile, stylish outfit around it. Look for past features here.

OK, so we’re coming at you with a Thursday edition of the #OOTD series. Namely, we’re just a few days out from Christmas — that came up quick, yes? Hopefully, you turned to The Style Guide (or another one of your favorite menswear blogs?) to knock out your holiday shopping. Still need a gift for her? Fear not. Or maybe you want to add an item or two to your holiday men’s style wish list? Easy does it. Oh, and that leaves another crucial question — what are you going to wear for the occasion? Whether you’ve got one last holiday party to dress for or if you’re approaching the day with a bit more formality, we’ve got you covered when it comes to dressing for Christmas. And that’s why today’s #OOTD covers another potential holiday style scenario: the casual holiday. Maybe you’ll be spending the day at your house and venturing out later for a movie or a drink with friends, or perhaps you’re taking it easy while on a holiday trip over the river and through the woods– either way, dressing with some polish is key. We’re not talking about going overboard — leave the velvet dressing gown at home. No, we’re talking about a crisp, casual outfit that looks stylish, fits great and is a bit better-suited for venturing out in public than your pajamas. If you choose to stay in your PJs all day — hey, nothing wrong with that. But if you want to look a bit more cleaned up while still feeling comfortable? I’m your guy … or rather, the below #OOTD is the one to shop.  Chime in over on Twitter if you’ve got questions, additions or deletions when it comes to this look. Hit me up on Instagram if you want to see how I’m styling my Christmas Day #menswear picks, while we’re here.

Cozy, casual, comfortable and yet ... quite put-together.

Cozy, casual, comfortable and yet … quite put-together.

The Cardigan: Abercrombie & Fitch Belted Shawl Cardigan, $75 –We’re kicking things off with a really unique, effortlessly stylish sweater from the new and very improved Abercrombie & Fitch — the Camel color is eye-catching and pairs nicely with our other casual picks.

The T-Shirt: Barking Irons Brando Tee, $49 (2-Pack) — You could always reach for a classic chambray shirt if you wanted something a bit more cleaned up, but a textured cotton tee with unique design details — like a scalloped hem and slightly raised sleeves — is a cool, effortless pick.

The Denim: Mugsy Jeans Kinzie Denim, $98 — Who said denim has to be uncomfortable? Mugsy jeans are built with more room in the crotch and a ton of flexibility for a great — plus, the light wash is more casual, and these jeans look a bit more crisp than tailored sweats.

Beckett Simonon

The Watch: Timex + Todd Snyder Red Wing Leather Chronograph in Grey, $158 — Even if you’re just hanging around the house, it can be fun to throw on a stylish casual watch — especially one from Todd Snyder.

The Belt: J. Crew Factory Braided Leather Belt, $29.99 — Let’s keep it casual on the accessories front — a trusty braided leather belt is comfortable and mixes in some cold-weather texture.

The Socks: CHUP Churro Socks, $35 — Limited edition, nature-inspired prints on a comfortable pair of CHUP socks? Sign me up. They’re pricey, but very well-made and eye-catching — perfect holiday style, in short.

The Sneakers: SeaVees White Walls Mid-Cut Wintertide Sneaker, $98 — Sneakers in the winter? Yes, sir. You can always grab a pair of durable leather boots if snow is in the mix, but if it’s simply a bit chilly? These casual-yet-crisp mid-top sneakers are made with navy flannel fabric and blend right in with this ensemble.

The Grooming Kit: Harry’s Deluxe Truman Set, $35 — Just because it’s a casual Christmas doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get cleaned up a bit, ehh? This deluxe shaving set has everything you need to look great through the new year.

OK, we’ve got your unique, modern and comfortable belted cardigan, your classic T-shirt and slim stretch denim. Those are the building blocks of a nice cold-weather casual ensemble  in fall or winter, yet they work particularly well for lounging around — yet looking great — this holiday season. When you complement those pieces with a durable leather watch and a pair of premium patterned socks, you’re set with a look that’s versatile and sharp. Navy flannel sneakers are a unique finishing touch, too. Of course, putting in a little extra effort when it comes to winter grooming essentials is a solid move, too — and if you happen to be spending some time with your significant other on Christmas, they’ll appreciate it. How will you be dressing for a casual Christmas? Or do you still have some holiday shopping to finish up before you worry about what you’re wearing?
