See Now, Buy Now: The CIVIC Lloyd Shorts Are the New Pair of Shorts You Need this Summer

Not just any old pair of shorts … a stylish and sustainable pair.

For some guys, wearing shorts actually feels like … a chore. Yes, yes it’s true. Shorts are less polished than classic chinos or stylish light wash jeans, and if you grew up (as I did) wearing cargo shorts from mall brands, it can be tough to leave those associations behind. Seriously, quite tough. Thankfully, the CIVIC Llloyd Shorts are here to change your perception when it comes to stylish shorts to wear this summer. And the even better news? They’ve arrived not a moment too soon. We’re on the verge of Memorial Day weekend, we’re on the verge of summer festival season, and I’d wager you’re going to want to be wearing shorts like the CIVIC Llloyd Shorts on the regular for many a weekend ahead. But why this particular pair? Helpfully, the CIVIC Llloyd Shorts come from the partner brand of Taylor Stitch, a perennial Style Guide favorite. CIVIC focuses on sustainable, classic clothing that blends versatile wearability with durable, eco-friendly fabric. It’s a wholesome, stylish mission — one that includes the Lloyd Shorts, at that.

Available in both Navy and Olive options for maximum versatility, the CIVIC Llloyd Shorts feature the brand’s Merino 4S fabric, all the better when it comes to mobility, comfort and durability. They also score when it comes to style points, too. You’ve surely got a pair of khaki or light khaki shorts in your wardrobe, so the deep navy color of the CIVIC Llloyd Shorts lends this pair a bit more of a dressy feel (ever so slightly). That means the CIVIC Llloyd Shorts work with classic leather loafers and a crisp white polo for preppy style on the weekend, and they also team up reliably with a crisp white henley and timeless leather sneakers for a round (or two) of your favorite craft beer. To me, it sounds like the CIVIC Llloyd Shorts are going to offer easygoing summer style for days on end — even if you’re not normally a “shorts guy.”

What say you about the CIVIC Llloyd Shorts? Let me know in the comments below!

#OOTD: The Best Way to Wear Your New Favorite Shorts for Warm Weather

Is there a topic more fitting to discuss right now on The Style Guide than how to wear shorts this spring? I’d wager that no, there’s not. Now that we’re flipping our calendars into May, it’s time to think about how exactly you’re going to dress for warm weather — and we’re going all in. By that, I mean considering how you’re going to swap out your denim or chinos — at least on occasion. And that’s where today’s #OOTD comes into play. We’re giving you the scoop on the best way to wear your new favorite shorts for warm weather. You know, the kind of warm weather that calls for park strolls, rooftop beers and long days doing … well, nothing at all. It’s tough to misstep with a classic pair of shorts and complementary essentials, from a vintage-inspired short-sleeve shirt to a durable jacket for breezy spring (and summer) nights. Hopefully, you won’t have to break out said jacket that often, though. Before we give you the rest of the basics, remember this: In an ideal world, your stylish shorts are cut above the knee and ditch the cargo pockets in favor of a slim, streamlined fit. With that in mind, today’s #OOTD has darn near everything you need to rule spring and summer. Music festivals, barbeques, bar crawls … they’re all no match for your new favorite shorts.

Team your shorts with a camp collar shirt, classic spring sneakers and a durable jacket … that’s about how it goes.

  • The Shorts: Katin Cove Shorts, $53 — Featuring a rich Light Walnut color and an agreeable cut, these Katin Cove Shorts are indispensable if you want sleek-yet-casual style.
  • The Shirt: Penfield Mahoney Shirt, $69.98 — A stylish camp collar shirt, with its throwback design roots and easygoing style, belongs in your wardrobe this spring. The Penfield Mahoney Shirt is the one to buy.
  • The Jacket: Taylor Stitch Ojai Jacket, $188 — Will you absolutely need the Taylor Stitch Ojai Jacket? If the weather holds, then … no. But if it turns breezy or rain, you’ll be glad you’re wearing this stylish spring jacket.
  • The Sneakers: SeaVees Hermosa Plimsoll Sneakers, $62.98Classic white canvas sneakers like the SeaVees Hermosa Plimsoll are going to go with many a warm-weather outfit … including this one.
  • The Watch: About Vintage 1815 Chronograph, $349 — Although this outfit leans casual, a timeless leather watch with a slightly dressy design is going to add a crisp finishing touch to this ensemble.
  • The Belt:  Beltology Radius Woven Belt, $60 — A textured navy belt from Beltology lends some laidback, off-duty appeal to this outfit.
  • The Cap: Corridor NYC Washed Canvas Cap, $55 —  You can throw on this stylish, well-made Corridor NYC Washed Canvas Cap as you head out the door … or just leave it at home. Your call. It’ll look great, though — trust me.
  • The Sunglasses: Sunski Yubas Sunglasses, $55 — More unique than aviators and with a dash of bohemian style thrown in, the Sunski Yubas Sunglasses are bound to be a spring & summer go-to.

When you’re searching for the perfect pair of shorts to wear for spring and summer, the Katin Cove Shorts should likely top your list. With a tailored cut, a unique color and easily breathable fabric, the Katin Cove Shorts are an ideal match when teamed up with a few new favorites, like the casually cool Sunski Yubas Sunglasses and the barbeque-ready Penfield Mahoney Shirt. When you add in a timeless leather watch from About Vintage to the mix, you’re set for situations that lean more laidback or more formal. And accessories like the extremely well-made Corridor NYC Washed Canvas Cap lend some “classic spring and summer weekend” appeal to this ensemble, too. It also goes without saying that the SeaVees Hermosa Plimsoll are a great bet on the sneaker front, what with their crisp-yet-casual design. Top it off with the Taylor Stitch Ojai Jacket for unbeatable style that works on breezy nights or warm days quite easily. Wearing shorts doesn’t have to be a chore, and it doesn’t have to look silly — are you on board now? Start with the Katin Cove Shorts and you’re more than primed for shorts-wearing season.

#OOTD: How to Style a Classic White Tee for Spring (And Beyond)

Lest you think the classic white tee is too plain, simple or boring for you, know that the white T-shirt in question today can be styled pretty darn effectively for spring. The key comes with picking out a T-shirt that’s a step above your normal white undershirt or V-neck. Something with some texture, some substance and some wearability. Do you follow? It took me a second, but I think I found the perfect white tee for today’s #OOTD. That tee, my friends, would be the Taylor Stitch Triblend Tee. Made with quality fabric and featuring that always-flattering Taylor Stitch fit, a crisp white tee is the perfect building  block for what I think you’ll find is a simple, yet stylish spring outfit. The accessories include a casual field watch and even a grooming essential to help you get cleaned up. We’re rounding it out with classic chinos, a pair of rugged 2-eye moc shoes, and a ridiculously well-made Flint and Tinder shirt. That ensemble is going to work wonders for your off-duty style — seriously, consider breaking out your chinos even when you’re not at the office. And again, where does it all start? It all starts with a classic white tee, a style move that’s more than worth your time. Read on for today’s #OOTD — you’ll notice the format is slightly different (bullet points!), but the quality is (hopefully?) still the same. Cheers!

A crisp tee from Taylor Stitch, layered up with other easy-to-wear spring picks.

  • The T-Shirt: Taylor Stitch Triblend Tee, $45 — When is a classic white tee more than  just a white tee? When it’s crafted by Taylor Stitch using quality materials, that’s when.
  • The Pants: Abercrombie & Fitch Athletic Slim Officer Chinos, $72 — A white tee and classic chinos are utterly timeless outfit building blocks that shouldn’t be overlooked.
  • The Shirt: Flint and Tinder Check Buttondown, $128 — Your outfit could use an extra layer, particularly on breezy spring nights. The Flint and Tinder Check Buttondown is that layer.
  • The Shoes: New England Outerwear 2-Eye Chukka Moc, $270 — When you start an outfit off with chinos and a white tee, something as timeless as the 2-Eye Chukka Moc should fit the bill nicely.
  • The Watch: Jack Mason Field Camp Watch, $195 — Durable, field-ready and stylishly casual for the weekend — that’s what you get with the Jack Mason Field Camp Watch, folks.
  • The Socks: Little River Sock Mill Textured Herringbone Crew Socks, $20 — Incorporating casual texture and a decent quality-to-price ratio, these are versatile spring socks.
  • The Wallet: Taylor Stitch Minimalist Wallet in Brown, $58 — Make no mistake about it, your everyday carry essentials need a shot in the arm. The Taylor Stitch Minimalist Wallet is the one to do that.
  • The Grooming Essential: Barber & Co. Classic Pomade, $22 — Add a bit of this classic pomade for some shine and a refined touch. It’s as easy as that.

Don’t sleep on the necessity of owning something as simple and yet as polished as a classic white tee, especially from a brand like Taylor Stitch. A staple that seems so simple can be worn so many ways — you could even ditch the Flint and Tinder Check Buttondown in favor of wearing the Taylor Stitch Triblend Tee all on its own, sleeves slightly rolled. Either way, the combo is going to be finished off nicely with timeless chinos from Abercrombie & Fitch, along with the handsome, rugged 2-Eye Chukka Moc. Accessories like the  Taylor Stitch Minimalist Wallet add sleek style and essential functionality to this #OOTD, as does the Jack Mason Field Camp Watch. These are picks that are going to work on the daily this spring, but they add a little something extra to an ensemble that doesn’t have many frills — just solid, classic style. Throw in classic pomade for an even more classicaly styled ‘do, then call it a day. Well, don’t call it a day — head out and get yourself some coffee at your favorite shop this weekend. Who’s with me?

#OOTD: How to Style Your Chukka Boots in Classic Fashion for Spring

There’s a lot that you can do with a pair of dependable, stylish and classic chukka boots — if you read The Style Guide, surely you know this. Or at least, I hope this here blog has been helpful enough. If you still feel like I’ve been slacking (which is entirely possible!), then today’s new #OOTD is here to, well, pick up the slack.  We’re talking how to style your new favorite pair of chukka bootsPerhaps though, these rugged chukka boots — and Astorflex, the brand that makes ’em — aren’t new to you at all. In any case, they’re recently restocked, they’re made from sustainable materials in a classic silhouette, and they’re more than ready to pair up with the gear we’ve got in store for you today. The below outfit is one that just … works. From a casual weekend day of coffee and museum-hopping or a productive day at the office, we’ve got building blocks that’ll stand the test of time, from slim navy chinos to a durable spring jacket to a classic Oxford shirt. Oh, and those chukka boots. Let’s dig into the specifics more, shall we? Read on below.

All your outfit needs is a versatile pair of chukka boots to start things off … yes?

The Boots: Astorflex Greenflex Rough Boots in Sand, $155 —  You know Astorflex for their commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability — no better brand from which to buy essential chukka boots, ehh?
The Jacket: Relwen Sailcloth Tanker, $298 — Because no outfit is complete without an essential spring jacket, the Relwen Sailcloth Tanker is absolutely the one to buy.

The Shirt: Taylor Stitch The Jack in Blue Everyday Oxford, $98 –Is there a shirt easier to style than a truly timeless Taylor Stitch Oxford shirt? I’d wager perhaps not.

The Chinos: CIVIC Frank Chinos, $128 — The partner brand of Taylor Stitch has set its focus squarely on sustainable fabric, tried-and-true designs and neutral, easy-to-style colors — you can find all of that in the CIVIC Frank Chinos.

The Socks: Anonymous-ism Silk and Cotton Socks, $15 — You could certainly wear crew socks with this ensemble, but what say we roll up the CIVIC Frank Chinos and pair ’em with these well-made Anonymous-ism socks?
The Belt: Beltology Radius Woven Belt in Olive, $60 — Because the small details count, a textured casual belt is going to add just enough visual interest to this outfit.
The Boxer Briefs: CIVIC Merino Boxers in Heather Grey, $55CIVIC can even do merino boxers quite well — these are a recent offering from a brand that’s got everything taken care of for you.
The Watch: Nezumi Studios Bailene Watch, $500 — The handsome and crisply designed Nezumi Studios Bailene Watch toes the tricky line between dressy and casual — quite nicely, at that.
As we’ve mentioned before, it really doesn’t get better on the footwear front — at least in terms of transitional spring style — than a pair of essential chukka boots that work for situations in the office and on the weekend. Style these durable boots with the right picks, including the highly versatile CIVIC Frank Chinos and that unbeatable Taylor Stitch Oxford shirt, and you’ve got a look that’s hard to top. Seriously, even just those three pieces can take you to brunch, the bar, a business trip … you name it, they’ll do it. The small details are also going to aid you in terms of comfort and performance — take merino boxers from CIVIC, for instance. And on your wrist? The Nezumi Studios Bailene Watch is as sharp a new timepiece as you’re liable to find around these parts. You also really can’t go wrong with Anonymous-ism socks for a bit of spring-friendly style. To top it all off, you best throw on the durable, weather-ready Relwen Sailcloth Tanker — it doesn’t get better than that, it just doesn’t. So, where will this #OOTD take you? Are there any pieces you’d add or subtract? Let me know in the comments below!

#OOTD: How to Dress for A Casual Spring Weekend

Style is all about dressing in a way that stays true to yourself — and in a way that’s true to the situation, right? Right. There’s no sense in wearing a suit to the ballpark, for instance. The best style moves — from the classic Oxford shirt to the perfect pair of everyday denim — nail that tricky balance of classic-yet-versatile style, while working in any situation. And so it is with today’s #OOTD — we’re talking a specific situation (in this case, an easygoing spring weekend) and we’re talking picks that should fit right in with your wardrobe if you’re the kind of guy who values casual, laidback style with just a bit of retro cool. That’s what I call staying true to yourself, ehh? Spring is a time to shed extra layers and take it easy, so we’re stepping out in retro-inspired high-top sneakers, a classic leather watch and — perhaps most crucially — an ultra-cool short-sleeve shirt for the season. All of it adds up to an outfit that’s appropriate for a park picnic, a zoo visit, a stroll through an outdoor art fair or a visit to your favorite brewery … maybe all in one day? If you’ve got thoughts on this outfit, let me know via The Style Guide Facebook page or Twitter. Cheers!

Layering a stylish short-sleeve shirt with an easygoing tee and high-tops — that’s all there is to it!

The Shirt: Portuguese Flannel El Dorado Shirt, $125 — The purveyors of your favorite flannel shirts for the cold weather turn their attention toward a retro-inspired short-sleeve shirt — get yours now.

The Tee: Flint and Tinder Slub Tee in White, $25.98 — Are we layering a short-sleeve shirt over a tee? Heck yes, we are. This Flint and Tinder Slub Tee has a bit of a similar feel to something Armie Hammer might have worn in “Call By Your Name,” I’d say.

The Denim: Todd Snyder Made in L.A. Natural Indigo Selvage, $248 — Is this a pricey pair of light wash denim? It sure is. But Todd Snyder makes some of the very best denim around, easily. Roll these atop your sneakers or wear them with just one cuff. Speaking of sneakers …

The Sneakers: Rancourt & Co. Carson Mid, $185 — Made-in-America high-tops like these spring-ready Rancourt & Co. sneakers are tough to come by — these should stand up with ease to bar crawls and park strolls alike.

The Socks: Anonymous-ism Boucle Mix Socks, $12 — While you could go with no-show socks here, these Anonymous-ism socks feature a neutral color and fabric that’s not too heavy — both spring must-haves.

The Belt: Filson Leather Belt, $85 — We’ve featured this Filson leather belt in a past #OOTD entry, and with good reason — it’s a dependable, stylish addition to your accessories lineup.

The Watch: Jack Mason Field Camp Watch, $195 — The Jack Mason Field Camp Watch is the timepiece you need for a spring weekend — it’s got just enough sharp style and just enough rugged appeal to go anywhere.

The Essential: ManCan 128oz. Picnic Keg, $44.98 — Is the ManCan Picnic Keg an essential? Well, only if you fancy having a park picnic … which I’d wager you do!

This outfit can go anywhere you go on a casual spring weekend — it’s pieces like slim light wash denim and those durable, retro-inspired Rancourt & Co. sneakers that get the job done when it comes to laidback style for the season. Layering a  retro-inspired short-sleeve shirt underneath a Flint and Tinder Slub Tee is also a slightly unexpected style move that gives this outfit some versatility and visual interest — it’s the kind of look that’s going to look particularly at home lounging on a patio with a margarita (or your drink of choice, that is to say). To stay on time through it all, the rugged style of the Jack Mason Field Camp Watch should help out admirably, while the ManCan Picnic Keg — funny name and all — is the essential to bring with you to a park picnic or a backyard party.  And the great thing about this outfit is the freedom of choice — you can rock it with or without the Anonymous-ism socks, for instance. So, where will this #OOTD take you this spring? What picks would you add or subtract? Let me know in the comments below!

#OOTD: Stepping into Spring in Business Casual Style

We talked a few weeks ago in our #OOTD series about how to dress for the office in transitional style. That is to say, using textures and pieces that nod toward colder weather (even in March), but are still packed with some streamlined, tailored polish. We’re taking that approach one step further in today’s #OOTD on how to dress for the office this spring. From a casual three-button sportcoat to a classic American Oxford and dark indigo jeans, this ensemble works in offices where you can go a bit more laidback while still throwing on a jacket. However, I’d urge you to keep this #menswear look in mind if your own office has recently relaxed its dress code — the Flint and Tinder Dark Indigo Jeans you see below are quite the sharp pair (if I do say so myself). At any rate, we’re also sticking with plenty of style essentials you’re going to love — those include classic suede chukkas, an investment-level watch and of course, a stylish knit tie. And the best part has gotta be the fact these pieces are light, classic and easy to style for spring. Say it with me: Seasonal style transitions! Easy as that. Good luck out there!

A laidback sportcoat, a classic Oxford and a knit tie make this outfit sing this spring (see what I did there)?

The Sportcoat: Grayers Poindexter 3-Button Sportcoat, $165 — A three-button sportcoat in a bright spring color, fashioned with helpful, comfortable stretch? The Poindexter Sportcoat is excellent.

The Shirt: Flint and Tinder Soft Washed Oxford, $98 — Leave the crisp dress shirt at home — this laidback, American-made Oxford nails the best of in-between office style.

The Tie: Todd Snyder Classic Knit Tie in Olive, $78 — Change things up from the ordinary with an elegant knit tie in a slightly unexpected color.

The Jeans: Flint and Tinder Dark Indigo Jeans in Slim, $118 — To seal the deal on the business casual end of the spectrum, throw on slim indigo jeans in a pleasingly dark wash.

The Chukka Boots: Astorflex Greenflex Rough in Sand, $155 — While they’re different than sleek Chelsea boots or even a pair of the best men’s dress shoes, these classic suede chukkas are a cool, timeless style move.

The Belt: Tanner Goods Dress Belt in Cognac, $150 — A slim dress belt keeps with the high-low themes of this outfit, and it might be the last brown leather dress belt you ever buy.

The Watch: Shinola Runwell Chronograph, $750 — Does it ever get old featuring a watch like the Shinola Runwell Chronograph? No, no it doesn’t. Plain and simple!

The Socks: Little River Sock Mill Herringbone Crewneck Socks, $20 — While you could easily roll up those indigo jeans and go with some no-show socks, the premium Little River Sock Mill Herringbone Socks add cool visual interest to this outfit.

The key to business casual style that nods toward spring and helps you into a new season? It’s gotta be the basics, the building blocks, as we always say. For instance, the Poindexter Sportcoat takes care of your spring sportcoat game with ease, from the neat color to the comfortable cotton fabric. A knit tie in a cool color like Olive teams very nicely with an American-made Oxford, while that whole combo is bolstered by classic suede chukkas and of course, slim indigo jeans that certainly add a nice, dressy touch. The Shinola Runwell Chronograph is potentially the perfect watch to throw on with this outfit, equal parts slightly rugged and more refined. Accessories like the Little River Sock Mill Herringbone Socks and the Tanner Goods Dress Belt are also every bit as crucial to bringing home the versatile, office-ready nature of this outfit, too. So, what do you say? Ready to throw on that sportcoat and head into your next presentation? I bet you are.

#OOTD: A New Way to Dress in Casual, Everyday Spring Style

Gather ’round, step on up and ready your spring style essentials — the time is nigh to talk about easygoing, casual spring style. The sort of outfit that really covers all your bases, at least in a casual sense. The sort of outfit you’re going to look forward to wearing as often as you can. And the sort of #OOTD that just makes sense for a lot of us fans of classic, straightforward style. You’ll see pieces like a classic striped tee, a great pair of everyday men’s chinos and some minimal grey leather sneakers that add refined polish any day of the week. The rest of the ensemble also features pieces that can easily be broken out and worn on their own, particularly as temperatures continue to get hotter. Before then, I think you’ll like where we’re going (namely, check out the classic chambray workshirt being used as a necessary top layer). All the building blocks are there in terms of an outfit that screams spring. We’ve got pieces that can be worn all year in other outfits, brought together in one laidback, casual and cool #OOTD. Wear it on a breezy Friday, wear it for a bit of Saturday day-drinking and wear it for Sunday brunch — not all in the same wekeend, of course. Want to chime in on the conversation? Head to The Style Guide Facebook page. Chat then!

Ever wondered how to layer your chambray shirt and still look great this spring? Well, here you go!

The Chambray Shirt: WP Standard Chambray Work Shirt, $98 — A crisp, rugged chambray shirt that doubles as a bit of an outer layer when worn over a striped tee — perfect for a breezy spring night.

The Striped Tee: Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Tee, $55Taylor Stitch doesn’t mess around with fabric quality, even when it comes to a basic T-shirt. The use of mercerized merino makes this classic striped tee durable and ready for extra layers over top.

The Pants: Flint and Tinder 365 Pants in Earth, $98 — We love the 365 Pants for their blend of jean-like durability and chino-like comfort — you get a pair of pants that can be dressed up or, in this case, dressed down.

The Sneakers: Oliver Cabell Low Top 1, $173 — What says spring more than a pair of minimal low-top sneakers, particularly in a unique shade of grey leather? This initial run of sneakers from Oliver Cabell is excellent.

The Socks: American Trench Merino Activity Socks with Silver, $16.98 — Let’s say it’s still just a bit breezy out there — leave the no-show socks at home, and throw on the Merino Activity Socks from American Trench instead. You get more ankle coverage (it’s a thing) and you get sporty, casual style, too.

The Watch: Timex Weekender Chrono Watch, $77 — Not to be forgotten, a NATO strap watch, especially an affordable casual watch from Timex, is the one to wear with this outfit. The color is spring-ready, too.

The Tote Bag: Nisolo Lori Leather Tote, $95.98 — If you hadn’t guessed it by now, this outfit was designed with more casual ventures in mind — I.E. Lounging on a patio crushing session IPAs. Carry the beer in the Nisolo Lori Leather Tote, my friend.

The Pomade: O’Doud’s Standard Pomade, $18 — While you could certainly accessorize with a stylish, vintage-inspired ballcap here, maybe you’ve freshened your ‘do for spring. The O’Doud’s Standard Pomade can help with a new look, sir.

If this #OOTD doesn’t get you excited to kick back outside with a beer or two, then I just don’t know what to tell ya. The WP Standard Chambray Work Shirt is as classic and stylish as it gets, with the potential to layer quite easily over the Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Tee. And those two pieces, combined with the equally essential  Flint and Tinder 365 Pants, are going to nicely complement crisp leather sneakers from Oliver Cabell for an easygoing springtime look. Don’t sleep on the value of comfortable socks, either — the Merino Activity Socks from American Trench are going to get the job done in terms of style, too. Of course, an affordable casual watch from Timex certainly helps to cement the nature of this outfit,  along with the grab-and-go Nisolo Lori Leather Tote. Want to top things off in a new way? Ditch the ballcap (for now) and style your hair with a bit of O’Doud’s Standard Pomade — all things considered, this ensemble has everything you need for a great spring day.

Cheers, my friends!

#OOTD: How to Wear Your New Favorite Spring Jacket

Does it feel odd that we’re throwing around phrases like “new favorite spring jacket” already? It does to me — I feel as if a surge of New York winter could return at any moment, and yet … here we are, talking all about styling a classic bomber jacket for the month of March. Upgrading your outerwear game is as crucial in March (and April) as it is during the more extreme cold of winter — the Baro Dean Jacket, as seen below, is a terrific first step when it comes to dressing in casual style and protecting yourself from rainy weahter this season. Hopefully, you’re going to like the rest of today’s #OOTD on The Style Guide, too. It’s packed with pieces that are critical to crossing over from winter. Y’know, pieces like a rugged Taylor Stitch henley, a standout pair of slim light wash jeans, and some investment-level leather boots (remember, don’t shelve those boots just because winter’s done!). Yes indeed, spring style essentials are the name of game today. Most importantly, crossing over from one season to another doesn’t have to mean you immediately replace the gear you know and love — it’s all about finding new ways to wear those picks (like the classic henley that helps hold down today’s outfit). Have questions, comments or feedback? Hit me up after the post, or follow along with my incoherent ramblings on Twitter.

A durable bomber jacket and tough leather boots, mashed up with light wash jeans in the spirit of spring.

The Bomber Jacket: Baro The Dean Jacket, $120.98 — With a simple silhouette, an easy-to-style color and the durability to stand up to spring showers, the Dean Jacket is your spring style centerpiece.

The Henley: Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Henley, $68 –Made from upcycled cotton in that tailored fit you know and love from Taylor Stitch, the Heavy Bag Henley is a new, stone-cold classic.

The Denim: Flint and Tinder Pacific Wash Jeans, $128 — Can’t give up denim? Lighten things up for spring with the suitably slim, suitably light Pacific Wash Jeans from our buds at Flint and Tinder.

The Boots: Red Wing Merchant Boots, $320 — Just as you might find it hard to shelve your denim, putting away your rugged leather boots is no easy task. The sharp Red Wing Merchant Boots are here to ease your pain.

The Belt: Filson Leather Belt, $85 — The Filson Leather Belt — simply named but remarkably well-crafted — could be the last brown leather belt you buy for a good long while.

The Socks: Arvin Goods Casual Socks, $12 — With a focus on sustainable production and clean, retro-inspired styles, Arvin Goods makes comfortable socks to complement any #OOTD — especially this one.

The Watch: Shinola Runwell Watch, $550 — Complement this straightforward outfit with a rugged, casual timepiece from the hitmakers at Shinola — the Runwell is a certified classic (in the modern sense, at least).

The Cap: Huckberry Explorer’s Cap, $40 — Before I leave the house most weekends, I throw on my Huckberry Explorer’s Cap. You should do the same, yes?

And that’s the capper on this #OOTD — who’s all geared up for spring? Keeping it casual and classic doesn’t mean you have to sacrific style or functionality — the Dean Jacket is a prime example of a cool way to take on a blustery spring day. Plus, it fits in with other pieces you assuredly already have (like a rugged henley from Taylor Stitch and slim Flint and Tinder jeans in a pleasingly spring-friendly light wash). What would this #OOTD be without some ever-present boots, though? The Red Wing Merchant Boots will get better with each and every wear this season (and well beyond), as will the Filson Leather Belt — seriously, that’s the way the brand made it. And the coveted Shinola Runwell Watch is another stunner, adding rugged edge to a perfectly weekend-ready ensemble. I also think you can’t go wrong with the Huckberry Explorer’s Cap; who agrees with me there? Most importantly, in what style situations would you rock this outfit? Let me know in the comments below!

#OOTD: Shake Up Your Business Casual Style For the Office

There are solid, reliable go-to’s that we all have when it comes to dressing for the office — right? Pieces like slim dark denim, a classic navy blazer and the like. But what to do when you want to switch things up just ever so slightly? That’s where today’s #OOTD is taking us. Dressing for the office can be a challenge, sometimes — it seems like every office, from creative agencies on up to accounting firms, are getting more and more casual. At least, that’s been my experience (let me know if you agree over on The Style Guide Facebook page). With that being said, looking great still pays off, and it’s still important — no matter how casual everyone else around you might be dressed. So, back to today’s #menswear ensemble. We’ve still got a stylish navy blazer in the mix, but we’re going a  step further with a casual printed shirt and stylish leather Chelsea boots. Everyone wins with this look, because we’re even incorporating … *gasp* … a tie! Yep, we’ve got it all covered. Read up below and let me know what you think via Twitter — cheers!

Can’t go wrong with some texture and unique style for late winter.

The Blazer: Grayers Hutton Moleskin Sportcoat, $165.98 — A stylish moleskin sportcoat is a unique change of pace from your standard cotton-blend navy blazer — the Hutton Moleskin Sportcoat from Grayers is a nicely tailored option.

The Shirt: Life/After/Denim Art Deco Shirt, $158 — While something like a classic Oxford shirt also works here, a unique printed shirt from Life/After/Denim adds nice visual interest and cool, casual style.

The Tie: Pocket Square Clothing Castillo Necktie, $56 — Ahh, yes … the dreaded necktie. Don’t wear a tie too often? A tweed tie from Pocket Square Clothing nods to the chilly temps some us might still be facing, and it also adds nice texture to this look.

The Chinos: Taylor Stitch Democratic Chino in British Khaki, $98Classic chinos from our pals at Taylor Stitch are an excellent change of pace from dark denim (which would also work nicely here, mind you).

The Chelsea Boots: Hudson Shoes Wynford Chelsea Boots, $210 — Because we might still be dealing with slippery roads out there, stylish Chelsea boots provide traction and sleek, office-ready style.

The Socks: American Trench Boot Socks in Light Denim, $29.50 — When is it worth it to spend nearly $30 on a pair of socks? When the socks in question are from American Trench & perfectly complement this outfit.
The Watch: BREDA Visser Watch, $90 — Leave the dive watch at home — this affordable, stylish leather watch from BREDA  is a perfect accessory for the office.
The Belt: Ezra Arthur No.1 Belt in Cognac, $100 — Even your belt should be sleek, minimal and dressy when it comes to biz casual style — the Ezra Arthur No.1 Belt hits the mark quite nicely.
Did this #OOTD hit the mark in terms of shaking up how you’ll be dressing for the office? The building blocks — those crucial building blocks we always talk about — aren’t all that different from a typical office ensemble, yet the Hutton Moleskin Sportcoat from Grayers adds more texture and style that’s appropriate for the cold weather. A  cool, visually striking printed shirt from Life/After/Denim also switches things up from a typical office shirt. And in terms of your trousers, can you top classic chinos from Taylor Stitch? Nope, not quite. A cool tweed tie from  Pocket Square Clothing is a nice menswear move that ups the ante in terms of your ensemble, while the beautifully crafted (and affordable) Wynford Chelsea Boots from Hudson Shoes add sleek style on the footwear front. To keep it all in line, the Ezra Arthur No.1 Belt is an essential finishing touch, as is the BREDA Visser Watch. Last but not least, I can’t vouch enough for socks from American Trench — what more do you need to get ready for the office? Not a heck of a lot, truly. Let me know in the comments if this #OOTD does it for you!
Thanks for reading, as always.

#OOTD: A New Way to Take on Casual Winter Layering

We always love talking new and fun — well, hopefully fun — ways to wear your favorite men’s style essentials here on The Style Guide. In the case of today’s #OOTD,  that means taking pieces you’ve got in your wardrobe and mashing them up in a way that’s laidback, rugged and nearly ready for anything. We’ve talked consistently about pairing up pieces that you love with, well, other pieces that you love — it can make even the most seemingly basic outfits that much more fun to wear. As ever, using basic building blocks together in just one ensemble results in an outfit that’s weekend-friendly or ready to take on a casual final day of the week at the office — that’s exactly the direction you need to go when stuck in the winter style doldrums. We’re pushing through and nearly into March, so relief is in sight … and ideally, you won’t have to reinvent new ways to wear your favorite flannel shirt so often. At any rate, I think you’re going to like what’s on tap here, from a rugged slub henley to perfectly faded denim and tough leather chukka boots. Feel free to weigh in on the below #OOTD in the comments or via Twitter. To check out what I’m wearing, you can also head to my Instagram. For now, thanks for reading!

That’s it, there’s your newest winter #OOTD! It comes down to using rugged-yet-casual and versatile pieces, like the Taylor Stitch Crater Shirt, paired up with similarly laidback essentials. Layering with the Todd Slub Henley adds both visual interest and warmth, while the Red Wing Heritage Weekender Chukka offers durability and plenty of tough style points on the footwear front. You’re getting similarly rugged layering potential on the outerwear front with the Fraser Waxed Canvas Jacket, while the American Trench Ribbed Beanie will also keep you warm during a chilly winter day.  And you’re going to need to step out with a stylish watch on your wrist, whether you’re heading to the coffee shop or your favorite brewpub — the Bailene Watch blends throwback style with tough durability. Plus, American-made socks are the new accessory move you didn’t know you needed (or perhaps you did?). Last but not least, we sure do love the Flint and Tinder denim on tap here. I’d love to see if you’d style these pieces together, or break ’em up and wear ’em separately — let me know in the comments below! As always, thanks for reading!
