The Friday Read: Todd Snyder x Legent, A Beer Giveaway & New Wolverine Boots

Todd Snyder x Legent Bourbon Denim Jacket

The coolest denim jacket from Todd Snyder and Legent Bourbon.

Folks, cheers to the weekend and cheers to your new favorite denim jacket, as worn by Todd Snyder himself up above. It’s a restock of the collaboration denim jacket from Todd Snyder and Legent Bourbon, the ideal layer to wear for spring and summer days aplenty (and an ideal gift for Father’s Day). That’s not all we’ve got on the docket today, though (you knew that, right?). The newest edition of the Friday Read, as you might expect, is jam-packed with plenty of the best men’s style news and gear for your weekend.

Of course, last week, we talked about an heirloom leather bag to buy right now for summer travel, but let’s think of the Todd Snyder x Legent Bourbon Selvege Denim Jacket as, quite possibly, the perfect jacket for summer travel — anywhere and everywhere. So, that’s one menswear essential with which to step into the weekend. And hey, if you so please, you can read about Legent Bourbon here on the blog, and of course, you can shop Legent Bourbon for your weekend right here
Nudie Jeans Co

In addition to adding the Todd Snyder x Legent Bourbon Selvege Denim Jacket to my summer wish list, I’ve got plenty more on tap this weekend now that I’m back in Brooklyn, including plans to visit the excellent Threes Brewing (per tradition!). I’ll also be working on my music and menswear newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief, which you should certainly keep an eye out for tomorrow morning (Tuesday’s post was on the latest from Lord Huron!). What’s on your own weekend to-do list? Let me know in the comments below, and keep scrolling to find out more style wish list must-haves and choice reading picks.

Wolverine x Rawlings 1000 Mile Boots

  • Let’s play ball — or at least, let’s get you outfitted with a new favorite pair of leather boots. Two heritage brands with plenty of American spirit — that’d be Wolverine and famed sporting goods brand Rawlings — have teamed up on the new Wolverine x Rawlings 1000 Mile Boots, made using Horween leather that you’d find in baseball gloves on Major League ballfields. These boots celebrate America’s pastime in style, and for the occasion, I wrote all about them at Maxim.com. Here’s to a stylish summer, indeed!

  • Here’s a fun way to start the weekend if you, like me, love cold beer and summer travel in the sun. Keystone Light, purveyors of the perfect beer to take out on the lake or to the beach, by the six-pack or the case, is offering five $10,000 vacations this year (in the form of cold, hard cash). How to enter? Purchase a 12-pack or larger of Keystone Light and then upload your receipt at KeystoneLightSummer.com, or else scan the QR code on Keystone Light signage at your local store. Easy as that, really. If you’re over 21, you can enter until July 10thCheers, folks!

High Noon Tropical Hawaiian Shirt

  • Speaking of cold summer beer for hot summer days, how about the perfect shirt to wear for your summer vacation? Tropical Bros. and High Noon have teamed up on a fun new Hawaiian shirt, celebrating the ideal pairing of hard seltzer and hours in the sun, on the water with great friends. It helps that this shirt wears well with swim trunks or with your favorite chino shorts, and the super-stretch Hawaiian fabric is also supremely comfortable. That’s a major win for me.

That’s going to wrap up my quick-hit picks for the impending start of summer, from a fun new beer giveaway to the perfect summer shirt… and oh yeah, some rugged leather boots that also celebrate America’s pastime (seriously, I’m a huge fan of the look and styling potential of the Wolverine x Rawlings 1000 Mile Boots. That just about covers all the right bases, although I’m going to leave you with one last recommendation. And that recommendation? It’s all about the best new shorts to buy right now from Huckberry, as covered last week on the blog. Happy shopping and enjoy the weekend, folks!

The Friday Read: The Best Weekend Getaway Bag, New Spring Jeans & The World’s Oldest Whiskey

We’re through another spring week and we’re drawing closer, ever-so-slightly closer, to the days of summer travel. Right off the bat, get on out there and enjoy Mother’s Day (safely!) — more on that in a moment. I’m feeling a mixture of excitement and some trepidation, but mark my words when I say I know how I’m going to hit the road: In style, of course. If this whole road trip thing feels unfamiliar, it’s best to start, in my estimation, with the gear you’re bringing, like the best bag for a weekend getaway. That bag, my friends, comes from Herschel Supply Co. and is available right now for under $100 in an array of new, seasonally friendly colors. It’s the Herschel Novel Duffle, which I talked about here as being the best bag for winter road trips.

Well, guess what — it’s ready for spring and summer, too. It looks great, it performs spectacularly and it’s got 33 liters of carrying capacity. Call it the best weekender bag on the market, if you please, but make sure it ends up in your shopping cart to start this weekend. Now that you’ve crossed one item off your to-do list, let’s roll onward with the Friday Read.

As for me, well, I’m staying plenty busy on the road myself this weekend. My time in Florida is nearing an end, but I’ve loved the sun, the sand, the local craft beer from Point Ybel Brewing and the chance to safely catch up with family. I’ve still got plenty in the works on the writing front, including my ongoing, twice-weekly stories at Jacob Graye (more on that in a second), plus my latest and greatest for The Manual — in addition to this blog and my music-menswear-craft beer newsletter (be sure to hit Subscribe!). What’s on your weekend to-do list? Any great weekend starts, in my mind, with the coolest gear on the planet. Prepare accordingly right now.

  • Before we go too deep into, say, the best new sneakers to pair with your getaway bag, let’s talk about the best light wash jeans to bring on that weekend trip. Nudie Jeans makes styles like the Nudie Jeans Lean Dean, a classic slim-straight fit, with plenty of quality top of mind.  The tapered leg, light wash and organic cotton construction all make them worthy of the top slot to lead into the rest of today’s Friday Read.

  • I talked on the blog last week about the best new sneakers to buy from GREATS, so consider this yet another reminder that the time is here to stock up on even more of your new favorite sneakers for spring and summer. To get to the point: The GREATS Royale Eco Mesh Sneakers are lightweight, they’re sustainable, they’re easy to wear with tailored shorts or olive chinos, or light wash jeans for men from Nudie, and they’re easy on your pocketbook, too. Go on, get the best new sneakers for men ASAP. Oh, and remember that you can get 15 percent off your first order with the code BROOKLYN15.
    • Speaking of GREATS, you should know that the brand is also offering a last-second Mother’s Day promo — you can get 20 percent off orders of $75 or more with the code MOMSDAY. Talk about a perfect gift for the mom who loves sneakers, ehh?
  • As mentioned in the headline, well, I know at least one place you can go to read about the world’s oldest whiskey. Yes, that’s right: The oldest whiskey in the world in fact hails from down South in Georgia, and you can read all about the full scoop in my latest dispatch for Maxim.com. How cool is that news?? Very cool, indeed. Cheers to that.
  • Here’s another fun dispatch for you from my neck of the woods. Over at the recently revamped lifestyle site Jacob Graye, I wrote about the best beard care products for men, no matter how long or short your mane happens to be. Give it a read and try some of those stellar products out for yourself.

Let’s wrap things up for the weekend (for now) with one last dispatch for your Friday enjoyment. Battling spring rain and wind is a never-ending task based on where you live (looking at you, my friends in the Pacific Northwest), so might as well get a jacket that can match every challenge. Click on through to this blog post to read all about the best jacket for spring rain from Eddie Bauer, in fact. Stay dry, stay stylish and let’s get out there this season.

The Friday Read: Sustainable New Sneakers, Sebago x Engineered Garments & New Huckberry Gear

GREATS Royale review

Your favorite new sustainable sneakers for spring and summer.

In honor of Earth Day last week, and as part of the ongoing commitment to sustainability that we all need to make, let’s talk about some of the most sustainable men’s sneakers on the market from Brooklyn’s own GREATS. That’s a fitting way to *step* into the weekend, is it not? Sure thing. Last week, the brand released a limited-edition GREATS Royale in Indigo Dye, with each sale donating to the Global Green: Our Cities Coalition. Oh, and the kicks themselves feature a footbed made from Bloom™ algae foam, plus recycled cotton laces. So, yes, they’re sustainable from A-to-Z, and they’re also some of the most stylish men’s sneakers out there for adding a pop of (natural) indigo dye to your summer footwear rotation. I know they’re on my wish list. If they’re on yours as well, you can get 15 percent off your first order with the code BROOKLYN15.

Mack WeldonThat’s a fine way to start the weekend, in my view: By shopping for your favorite new sustainable sneakers. Of course, that’s not the only item on my to-do list. I’m still plenty busy dog-sitting in Florida (follow me on Instagram to check out the highlights!), and there’s fun in the sun and local craft beer to enjoy this weekend, plus some work on my twice-weekly newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief. I cover music, menswear and craft beer, and it’s free to your inbox every Tuesday and Saturday. What’s stopping you from subscribing, ehh?? You’ll be hearing more about that from me in the near future.  For now, I’ve got some final writing to knock out for the weekend, including my next dispatch for the Huckberry Journal. Have a great weekend, stay safe, stay sustainable and stay stylish.

  • To match up with those stylish and sustainable sneakers above, you’re going to need some equally stylish essentials this spring and summer. Enter Frank And Oak, a longtime favorite of the blog (see a few of my favorite sale picks from Frank And Oak here). The Canadian fashion brand makes a nice mix of casual and sharp basics & tailored pieces for men and women, including the Aero Ultra Light Overshirt, made from recycled bottles and other materials. It’s the sort of easygoing yet functional and cool shirt jacket you can wear for spring & summer days on the road.

  • You can’t go wrong at all with great menswear for a great cause, to say the least. Flag & Anthem, makers of Western-style and casual shirting and slim jeans (among other staples) announced that a portion of its sales this month are going towards autism initiatives and special programs as part of Autism Awareness Month via its new Autism Awareness Collection (as seen above). Oh, and you can use the code FRIENDS25 for 25 percent off everything. Again, great menswear for a great cause (and now, a great deal).
  • Two brands, one old-school and one an established player in the fashion world, have teamed up on your new favorite summer shoes. That’s right: Sebago and Engineered Garments came through with a new series of deck shoes in cool materials like suede and croc-stamped leather, and I wrote all about it for Maxim. Lace ’em up and step out in style.
  • If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it, well, probably close to a thousand times. You can get the best new menswear and gear for spring & summer at Huckberry, and I did the hard work for you (well, at least some of it). Head to this blog post to read my top shopping picks at Huckberry for the weekend ahead and well beyond. Cheers, folks.

Mack Weldon

We’re just about done when it comes to today’s Friday Read, but I’ll send you galivanting off into the weekend with one final selection. If you’ve been searching for the best spring rain jacket, it’s a very good day for you indeed. Head to this blog post to check out my insights on the  Eddie Bauer Chopper 2.0 Jacket, which is on sale right now for under $100. It’s the perfect jacket for rainy, breezy spring days on and off the trail, plus around the city. Gear up accordingly, and I’ll see you out there, my friends.

The Friday Read: The Best Beard Oil, The Buck Mason Gift Guide & A Leather Jacket Deal

‘Tis the season to stock up on gifts from Buck Mason.

Welcome to today’s Friday Read, folks — we’re here to close out the week, launch on into the weekend and look great while doing so. If you’ve been reading the blog as of late (or over the years, to be more accurate), you’re probably well aware that Buck Mason is making some of the finest menswear around — with a few selections from the Buck Mason Gift Guide above serving as proof of that commitment. From leather jackets to henleys to the best men’s shirts, the brand just gets it right when it comes to old-school style, top-notch fabrication and agreeable fits, at least in my book. And for the stylish guy in your life, that’s why I’m recommending you shop the Buck Mason Gift Guide heading into the weekend. Heck, you just might find an item or two you want for yourself, and that’s truly a gift that keeps on giving.

So, that’s a shopping recommendation for you to start your weekend. If you’re in search of other recommendations — say, what to read, listen, shop and sip — I’ve got just the ticket: Subscribe (if you please!) to my newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief, to get two weekly E-mails (free of charge!) covering music, menswear, craft beer and more. It’s a fun diversion for me, and I hope you feel the same way. Elsewhere, be sure to keep an eye on my bylines at GearMoose and Maxim.com to stay up to speed on the latest and greatest in the worlds of menswear and gear. For now, I’ll cast you out into the rest of today’s Friday Read. Be sure to come back through tomorrow for our weekly Saturday Style Pick. Alright, let’s get to it!

  • Over these past few weeks, I’ve had the chance to test out AvitaSen Black Seed Beard Oil, a new brand on my radar that I’d certainly recommend you check out. Particularly if you’re just growing a beard or want to nourish your quarantine mane, then some of the best beard oil can go a long way. AvitaSen uses high-quality natural ingredients and a careful approach that results in a beard oil that can provide plenty of bang for your buck, so add it to your grooming routine ASAP.
  • I talked recently on the blog about one of the best leather jackets that I’ve had the pleasure of trying out: The Angel Jackets Ausin Cafe Racer Leather Jacket. If you’ve had your eye on that jacket or something similar, you’re in luck. Angel Jackets is offering 35 percent off men’s leather jackets, and you get an extra $25 off with the code BF25 through the month of December. Talk about a great chance to get a great deal on a new leather jacket, right? Right.
  • Let’s talk everyday carry essentials for a second, shall we? The WESN x Craighill Microblade is a surefire winner as far as adding performance and functionality — in a nicely sized offering — to your EDC rotation, and I had the chance to cover it for GearMoose. It helps that WESN builds its products in Detroit, a fitting homage to the kind of craftsmanship that makes my home state of Michigan really “go,” if you will. Well-done to both brands.

We’ll wrap it up on a high note here as we head into a holiday weekend. To follow along with my Brooklyn escapades, be sure to follow me on Instagram. And in the meantime, I’ll leave you with one last weekend dressing guide. If you’ve been searching for advice on how to bundle up in style this season, you’d do very well indeed to check out this #OOTD. With all that being said, happy shopping and sipping today and beyond. Thanks for reading!

The Friday Read: The Best Fall Whiskey, the Best Pants for Fall and the Aston Martin Residence

Michter's Whiskey

Some of your new favorite fall whiskey? Quite possibly.

I don’t know about you, but as we kick off today’s Friday Read, I’m feeling more in the spirit of fall already, just by looking at the excellent lineup of Michter’s Whiskey above. I’m particularly a fan of Michter’s US-1 Kentucky Straight Rye, an exceptional whiskey to enjoy in an Old Fashioned (if you prefer a Rye Old Fashioned). As I’ve mentioned in my newsletter (The Style Guide In Brief — be sure to subscribe!), you can use alcohol delivery service Drizly to get some sent right to your door — how’s that for a Friday night, ehh? It’s with that sort of spirt that I’ve been enjoying fall in Brooklyn, including a few (safe) stops at excellent whiskey and craft beer bar Sycamore, which features a backyard and patio set-up that’s perfect for enjoying a cocktail under the stars while it’s still nice out. It’s the kind of place that serves Michter’s Whiskey, too — a great spot, all in all.

For your own fall adventures, today’s Friday Read is jam-packed, per usual. Before I send you into the weekend, I’m going to also recommend you follow my Work From Home playlist on Spotify, featuring the kind of laidback indie rock jams to soundtrack a day and night at home — and a post-work happy hour with Michter’s Whiskey, naturally. Let’s get into the rest of it below — cheers to the season!

  • Folks, here’s another men’s style essential for fall that you’ll recognize if you read my gear-indie rock-craft beer newsletter: The American Giant Roughneck Pants, as worthy a pair of pants for your fall weekend as any. These are some of the most rugged men’s pants out there, featuring a durable stretch canvas fabric that retains its polish thanks to a slim fit and classic five-pocket pant styling. Wear them in place of jeans when you want to go ever-so-slightly rugged, yet versatile. Again, perfect pants for the weekend, ehh?
  • Dreaming of a James Bond-inspired getaway? Add a bit more to your budget in that case, because Aston Martin just unveiled seriously cool plans for its first-ever private residence, an incredible estate set in Rhinebeck, New York and featuring an underground lair and wine cellar (yes, believe it). Even better? I had the chance to write about it for Maxim, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.

An old-school pullover that’s as great as it gets.

HELM Boots- $50 Off Your First Purchase

Once again, it’s with the weekend in mind that I leave you with today’s final pick. For nights at home, plugged into your record player or listening to a Spotify playlist (like the one I mentioned above!), you can’t go wrong with some Master & Dynamic headphones, crafted in NYC. I reviewed them in this blog post, and needless to say, they’re some of the best Bluetooth headphones on the market. To let me know what you’re listening to at the moment, be sure to join me on Twitter. Thanks, as always, for reading!

Taylor Stitch: Summer Madras + This Week's #TSFromHome Playlist ...

Two lightweight men’s shirts for summer, as only Taylor Stitch can make ’em. Image courtesy of Taylor Stitch.

As we head into another summer weekend, thanks for starting yours off with another edition of The Friday Read. What’s on your to-do list today? Hopefully, you’re keeping things as casual and cool as those stylish shirts at the top of the page — that’d be the Taylor Stitch California Shirt in Vintage Navy Madras (on the right) and the Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt in Vintage Red Madras. Breezy summer shirting, anyone? They both so happen to be just two of the best men’s shirts for any season, period (yes, even in the sweltering heat). While you’re here, I’d also urge you to swing by a new launch that you might have already noticed — The Shop By The Style Guide, a curated list of men’s style essentials and classic picks, all on one handy, shoppable page. Feel free to reach out to me on Twitter if you have suggestions for brands or products to add.

Speaking of summer style, I’m going to have to keep my season rolling the right way with gear from the likes of Myles Apparel and more. Ater this weekend, I’m heading to visit my parents in Florida, a much-welcomed trip that’ll be filled with all the right precautions (including plenty of stylish face masks all around). That’s next week, though. This weekend, I’ll be working on my newsletter (have you subscribed?) and planning out more blog content, as ever. In the meantime, the rest of today’s Friday Read is below — enjoy, thanks for stopping by, and we’ll see you for tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week!

The Big 3, Skincare Set - Body & Face Wash, Face Lotion | Huron

One of the best new grooming brands to try right now.

Head over to Filson while you’ve still got time to shop the brand’s Summer Sale and my top sale picks.

  • It’s always worth keeping tabs on what the rugged gear purveyors at Filson are up to in the Pacific Northwest. Not too long ago, I wrote about the best gear for summer via the Filson Summer Sale, so you should either A) Read my post on one of the best sales for men in some time or B) Head to the brand’s Web site to shop the Filson Summer Sale right now.
  • Let’s head back over to The Manual really quickly here. There’s still some time to hit the water in style this summer, in my opinion. On that note, you should certainly check out my guide for the site covering what to wear on a boat this summer.

Alright, my friends. We’ve nearly wrapped up here. Before I let you go to kick off the weekend in earnest, two reminders: Again, you can (and should) subscribe to my newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief, for a twice-weekly dose of style, gear, music, coffee and craft beer — in essence, all the best things for guys that I can’t get to here on the regular blog! It’ll be fun, I promise. And number two: If you want some of the best men’s pants, be sure to check out my post on Freenote Cloth. Lastly: The Filson Summer Sale I mentioned earlier? It’s totally worth shopping ASAP. OK, folks. That’s it. Have a great weekend!

The Friday Read: The Best Blue Light Glasses, Nike Air Zoom Sneakers & A Faherty Brand Discount

Stylish blue light glasses on sale for a deal right now? That’s the way to go.

My friends, thanks for joining us for another Friday Read. I’m going to kick things off today with something I think will prove highly useful during these screen-heavy times. My friends at GlassesUSA.com have just launched BLUEASE, a line of blue light-blocking eyeglasses that blend plenty of style and functionality. On that note, it’s never been easier to get a pair of stylish glasses with this technology built right in — you can get 10 percent off BLUEASE frames with the code BLUEASE10, or you can take advantage of the site’s Buy One, Get One offer, including BLUEASE glasses, with the code BOGOFREE. But why do you need blue light glasses? These glasses reduce eye strain, cut back on headaches & improve your sleep and productivity. Those are all things we could use these days, right? Right. So, that’s where we’re starting Friday. By the way, my personal favorite from the BLUEASE line? The Gosling Eyeglasses as shown below — aptly named!

front

Get 10 percent off these blue light eyeglasses with the code BLUEASE10.

In my neck of the woods I’m staying plenty busy in Brooklyn now that I’ve made the jump into menswear projects and writing full-time — I’ve recently penned some pieces for Maxim.com, about which I’m VERY, very excited! Heck, I was able to feature one of my favorite brands, the esteemed style purveyors at Buck Mason, in my first piece. It doesn’t get any better than that. There’s also more in the works here at the blog. In the coming weeks, I’ll be launching The Shop by The Style Guide, a curated page of easy-to-shop men’s style essentials you’re going to get a kick out of.

Besides shopping for some men’s style essentials, what else is on your weekend agenda as we close out July?

It’s tough to believe we’re cruising through what’s turned out to be a very different summer, but I’m planning on doing the best I can to support the businesses I love right now. That means a customary stop by Brooklyn’s Wild East Brewing later today, in fact. In the meantime, you can — and should! — look for my next newsletter dispatch tomorrow via The Style Guide In Brief, plus our customary Saturday Style Pick of the Week. I’m excited for everyone to check ’em out! Thanks, as always, for reading and for your support. Onward with the Friday Read, ehh?

Chavito Chukka Boot Waxed Brown

But one pair of the best men’s boots you can get via Nisolo’s ongoing sale — get 25 percent off now through Monday on sustainable footwear, my friends.

The coolest, most classic men’s sneakers on the planet? Maybe. A fitting way to close the Friday Read? Assuredly.

My friends, we’ve once again reached the end of my weekly men’s style roundup. Before you go, let me give you one last item to ponder heading into the weekend. I’m a huge proponent of finding the best sneakers for men, the kind that work with your lifestyle, and then wearing them as much as possible. I’ve found perhaps no better classic pair of sneakers than the timeless Converse Chuck Taylor 70 Sneakers as sold by Need Supply. Need Supply Co. is, sadly, phasing out its operations, so if you want to get a great deal on sneakers like these, I’d suggest you check ’em out — and read this post ASAP. OK, that’s all for now. Have a great weekend, and thanks again for reading!

The Friday Read: Oars + Alps, The Best Beard Conditioners & the Nike Killshot

Readying for the weekend with the best men’s grooming products from Oars + Alps. Get 15 percent off with the code BEAU15.

My friends, are you ready for the weekend yet? I know I sure am — in fact, it feels as if my weekend started a little early. The big news in my neck of the woods? After five-plus years at my agency day job handling PR and social media, I’m stepping back as of earlier this week to focus full-time on menswear writing and other projects! You can head here to read more, and head to my personal Web site for my full background. It’s an EXTREMELY exciting prospect, so if you’re a brand or agency in need of a (relatively good!) writer or social media pro, PLEASE reach out! That being said, I’ve got plenty to get through in the rest of today’s Friday Read in the meantime. Thanks for joining us, thanks for reading & thank you for your support! Now, to business.

Telling you all about how to get 15 percent off at Oars + Alps today.

First things first, let’s really get things going with some of the best men’s grooming essentials in the business. Keeping your face in shape during the heat of summer is a tall task, but there’s a brand out there that can help you do it: Oars + Alps. I’ve had the good fortune to test out the brand these past few weeks (and over the years, going back to 2017!), and you’ve got just as great a chance to get to know ’em. You can use the code BEAU15 to get 15 percent off at Oars + Alps, including must-buy products like the hydrating and anti-aging Face and Eye Cream. The brand uses all-natural products like activated charcoal and aloe vera in products throughout its line, and each product also features Alpine Caribou Moss™ to reduce the effects of aging and fight pollution (which can harm your skin!). It’s great stuff, if you ask me. Again, get your weekend started right by using the code BEAU15 to get 15 percent off at Oars + AlpsWhile you do that, let’s get to the rest of the Friday Read below. Again, thank you for reading, thank you for your support!

That’ll wrap things up for me today, folks. If you made it this far, thanks (as always!) for reading! With all of that being said, I’ve still got one last suggestion for you. A breezy linen shirt, the kind I wrote about in this post — the kind that only lauded NYC menswear designer Todd Snyder can produce — is going to go a long way toward improving your summer style. Again, head here to check it out and read more. Oh, and one last reminder. If you want to amp up your grooming game in a hurry, you know what to do: Use the code BEAU15 to get 15 percent off at Oars + Alps, one of the best grooming brands for men I’ve seen. You heard it here first. Have a great weekend, folks!

The Friday Read: The Best New Summer Shirt, Fourth of July Weekend & Huckberry Essentials

Editor’s note: If you like what you read here, you might love The Style Guide In Brief, a mini-newsletter I’m launching next week. Expect 2-3 weekly dispatches on what to wear, what to imbibe and what to listen to — coming soon! Click here to learn more and sign up.
Hey hey, whaddya say? “Dad-style” greetings aside, I’m about as upbeat as can be as we head into what should be a laidback (albeit unique) Fourth of July weekend. In fact, I’m about as laidback and relaxed as the Surfside Supply Shirt seen above, available via the good folks at Bombfell — it’s one of the best short-sleeve shirts for summer, with the kind of style you should look to channel this weekend (cold beer sold separately). I’ll be wearing several of my favorite short-sleeve shirts for summer all weekend long, not least because it’s time for the big one: A safely done trip back to Michigan to see my family after long, long months in quarantine in Brooklyn. I’ll be taking all necessary precautions as I leave the city, masked up and hand sanitizer going strong — and in Michigan, social distancing via my brother’s lovely house will be key. With my family’s approval, we all feel safe, healthy and ready for some quality time together! Above all else, it’ll be a relief to see family and visit (socially distanced!) with friends after some long, tough months in New York City.

You best believe I’ll be packing summer style essentials from brands like Taylor Stitch on the trip, and I’ll also be looking forward to sipping on some fresh craft beer and of course, chowing down on a few hearty burgers right off the grill.  What’s on your agenda for these strange and trying times? I can only hope it involves rest, relaxation, and of course … the Friday Read we’ve got outlined below. In search of new artwork for your home or a new, cool beer glass? Those tidbits can be found below (keep scrolling!). It also seems like as good a time as any to kick back with some relaxing summer jams — I put together this WFH playlist earlier this year, but now would be the right time to enjoy some laidback listening around the bonfire, right? Yes, indeed (think Yo La Tengo, Alvvays & Big Thief, to name a few!). Keep on scrolling for more from the world of menswear and beyond, and I’m wishing everyone a very happy Fourth of July weekend. Stay safe out there, folks!

A limited-edition, signed print via Jack Ludlam and Taylor Stitch.

A seriously cool way to enjoy your favorite beer.

  • Let’s talk for a second about beer to drink this weekend — or rather, a new beer glass to buy as you  imbibe your favorite craft beer for the Fourth of July and beyond. The good folks at Huckberry are now selling the seriously cool Whiskey Peaks Beer Glass, featuring a topographic impression of Yosemite National Park’s Half Dome. Is it one of the coolest beer glasses around — for this weekend and well beyond? Yes, sir — no doubt.
  • We just talked about the best glass for your beer, so … wondering what to sip on this weekend? In my mind, that’s easy — you’re going to want the aptly named Anchor Liberty Ale, an iconic craft beer that’s meant to be enjoyed during a hot day on the boat or a cool evening around a bonfire. Heck, if you’re in the San Francisco area, use the handy Anchor Beer To Go feature for curbside pick-up — those outside the Bay Area should head toward the Anchor Beer Finder to find this legendary beer elsewhere. Brewed 45 years ago to honor the 200th anniversary of Paul Revere’s famed midnight ride, this is a classic craft beer worth enjoying again and again.
  • If you’re not about the most sustainable menswear around, well, you should certainly change that approach. It gets all the easier when you consider Wellen from my good friends at Huckberry. This surf-and-sun brand channels laidback summer style to a “T,”‘ as you might have read about on the blog in the past. With that being said, I rounded up the best style essentials from Wellen for GearMoose — give it a read, then stock up accordingly.

That’s just about going to wrap it up for me today, folks. But wait … I’m going to leave you with one last Fourth of July style suggestion. You need to have some cool boat shoes on your feet this weekend, and better yet, you need to know how to wear boat shoes in the best way possible for the rest of summer. That’s where this #OOTD comes into play — in fact, the Todd Snyder x Sebago boat shoes featured in that piece are some of the most unique ones I’ve seen in recent memory. I hope you feel the same, and I hope you enjoy time with family & friends this weekend. Thanks for reading — next round’s on me!

Cheers,

-Beau

The Friday Read: Last-Minute Father’s Day Gifts, New Everyday Carry Gear & The Best Denim Jacket

Nothing less than the best summer T-shirt.

Rest assured, it’s still a very difficult and challenging time out there, so thank you for stopping by the blog. Here we are on yet another Friday — first off, have you picked up your new favorite T-shirt (as seen above), or a last-minute Father’s Day gift? If not, it’s time to get on that — and there’s no better place to go than Huckberry, which recently launched the Forty Five Tee. You’ve read about these stylish T-shirts on the blog, but if you’re just getting up to speed, know that Huckberry focused on crafting the best men’s T-shirt … and only that. It’s similar to how the 45RPM record featured just one perfect single (and changed how people collected vinyl records forever). In addition to those tees, we’ll also have plenty of cool ways to kick off the rest of your weekend in today’s Friday Read. Although all of our plans look a bit different this year for Father’s Day, I’d urge you to celebrate with the fathers and father figures in your life however best you can — and maybe stop by the Huckberry Father’s Day Shop or the Todd Snyder Father’s Day Shop to get a last-second gift??

As for me, things are slowly reopening around NYC, a positive given that I can now more directly support some of my favorite businesses, from coffee shop Qathra to whiskey bar Sycamore. I’m also still missing live music more than ever, but doing what I can to support by viewing livestreams and benefit shows by the likes of Audiotree. It’s all about doing your part — I hope that’s the case in your region as well. These businesses need our support more than ever (and that goes for a great deal many menswear brands, too!). With that in mind, let’s dig into a few brands that could use our support at the moment — some you’ll recognize, certainly. Enjoy your weekend, thanks for reading & stay safe!

Great soaps from a great brand — for a great cause.

Alright, so before I let you go for the weekend, I’m going to direct you toward yet another must-buy for the season. Namely, you’re going to need a stylish polo or three for the hot summer months. On that note, the exceptional Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Polo could just be the perfect purchase to sort out your summer wardrobe. Read more here via the Style Pick of the Week series. OK, my friends. That’s going to wrap things up. Stay safe out there.
