During the rest of the week, it’s nice to have comfortabe gear you can depend on at home, too (just witness this gear roundup featuring a stylish Todd Snyder Traveler Suit). But back to the weekend: Who’s ready for it? And what’s on your to-do list? With hot weather aplenty sweeping the country, maybe you’re in search of a watering hole and a cold beer while wearing one of the best men’s swimsuits?

women's oxford shoe from Nisolo

I can only dream of that here in Brooklyn for the time being, but that doesn’t mean I’m not looking forward to getting out and about on my own in pursuit of new Brooklyn craft beer and the like. I had the recent chance to visit the newly opened Keg & Lantern Taproom, right near the waterfront in Red Hook, and can’t recommend it enough if you happen to live in the borough (or ever make it out that way!). Get the light and refreshing Pocho, a Mexican Lager ideal for hot summer days and nights — and if you do make it to the brewery’s original location in Greenpoint, be sure to get the excellent wings-and-pitcher deal. As often seems to be the case these days, I’ll also be spinning some new vinyl, with my pick of choice being the fantastic, brand-new “Punisher” by indie rock luminary Phoebe Bridgers. Have you given that album a listen? I plan on spinning it with my favorite coffee this weekend. For now though, we’ve got the rest of the Friday Read below — check out, then feel free to give me a follow on Twitter (if you’re not already following me!) or Instagram.

The coolest way to cover your face this summer? The two-pack also gives you even more utility from Buck Mason.

  • Keeping well-groomed in fine fashion is a necessity no matter the season — is it not? To that end, and for all my bearded brethren out there, I wrote about the best men’s beard grooming kits for GearMoose. If you’ve been searching high and low for grooming essentials, well, search no more. Remember, a well-groomed beard is but one of the summer style essentials should you have handy — in fact, it’s with you all the time! (Sorry, sorry — had to do it. Moving on!).
  • As you undoubtedly know, we’re all about the very best men’s gear on the blog. That’s why if you’re new (or new-ish) around these parts, I’d point you in the direction of my weekly  gear roundup known as The List. This recent entry is a good starting point, covering everything from the best new chinos to stylish leather dress shoes and a cool growler for cold brew (yes, that’s right!). Have fun stocking up, folks.

OK, my friends. We’re wrapping up today’s Friday Read in good time — still plenty of chances to get out there this weekend, after all. But before you go, I’ve got one last recommendation for you: A camp collar shirt needs to be on your summer shopping list ASAP, and you need to know how to rock it the right way. Hence, my guide on how to wear a camp collar shirt will have you sorted out in no time. That’s going to do it for me today. Have a great weekend, stay safe & thanks for reading, folks!

Style Pick of the Week: Billykirk Standard Issue East-West Tote Bag

The best tote bag to haul your summer gear? Quite possibly.

The days, in these strange and trying times, keep on rolling by, and *checks notes* it’s Saturday, so it’s time for yet another Style Pick of the Week covering the very best men’s gear. Well, one of the best men’s gear picks — in this case, it’s an everyday carry essential from the fine folks at New Jersey-based Billykirk. For a bit more than 20 years now, Billykirk‘s Chris and Kirk Bray have been making some of the most rugged goods on the planet, and doing it all in America — that’s where the new Billykirk Standard Issue Tote Bag enters the equation. The No. 540 Standard Issue Tote is a staple of the brand, but it gets a seriously cool and summer-centric update via the bright, fun River Yellow color as seen above (and it also now comes in Teal). Your summer travel plans might look a heck of a lot different — schlepping your gear a few yards to your firepit versus driving cross-coutry, for instance, but one of the best men’s tote bags can still add some excellent utility to your arsenal of everyday carry essentials.

Picture this: You’re gearing up for a summer weekend bonfire at home. You’re wearing your favorite summer sneakers and maybe some light wash jeans. You’ve got your cooler but you need to haul the rest of your gear out to said firepit. And you’re using this rugged tote bag. That’s but one use case, though — this tough and stylish tote bag is going to come in plenty handy elsewhere, too.

SHOP: The Billykirk Standard Issue East-West Tote Bag

A dependable tote bag could become a new summer style essentials.

A great tote bag like this one from Billykirk is assuredly worth adding to your list of summer gear, especially when it’s made from 10 oz. waxed cotton canvas — perfect for breezy, dewy summer mornings and chilly nights. And you needn’t worry about the durability of this thing, given that the Billykirk Standard Issue Tote Bag also features mil-spec nylon webbing and a full-grain leather bottom. It’s a seriously well-designed tote bag and includes an open main compartment and three interior organization compartments, too (to go along with two exterior pockets). Those are all critical when it comes to storing your everyday carry essentials or hauling around your favorite growler.  Heck, the No. 540 Standard Issue Tote is even sized to fit up to a 15″ laptop, so you can get some work done at your local cafe (when it reopens, that is). So, it’s clear that this new, rugged tote bag belongs on your list of summer style essentials — right? That’s a surefire “Yes” from me. Check it out at Billykirk, and feel free to hit me up on Twitter for more of my thoughts on the brand.

Sapporo Premium Beer — Price Varies

A new take on Sapporo beer — one of your new favorite lagers.

Seeing as we celebrated National Beer Day earlier this month, it only seems fitting to close out this post with a look at a seriously underrated Japanese beer, Sapporo. Consider stocking your fridge with some Sapporo beer the next time — the brand’s mainstay is clean, crisp and light, while Sapporo Premium Black is a flavorful, nuanced dark lager. It’s worth stocking up on some cans if you can. Cheers, friends!

With all of the ground we covered today when it comes to the best gear to wear when working from home, what’s your favorite pick from this post? I’d say it can be tough to narrow it down, especially when the gear being covered runs the gamut from one of the best crewneck sweatshirts  to a stylish short-sleeve shirt as sold by Bespoke Post  … and well beyond that, even right on through to some darn-near-essential GREATS sneakers. I’m partial to something I could see myself wearing plenty — either on its own or atop one of my favorite T-shirts, and that piece, my friends, is … the Flint and Tinder Stretch Utility Shirt. Of course, to be sure, I also love the utility of the U-Turn Audio Orbit Special  or adding some high-quality sound to my (growing) record collection. All of that being said, I’d love to hear about your favorites on Twitter. As always, thanks for reading — stay safe, stay strong!
