Folks, about how refreshing does that ice-cold summer beer look above? It’s Friday, after all, and happy hour draws neigh (or perhaps, you’re reading this during happy hour right now). That being said, I’m going to kickstart today’s Friday Read with a recommendation right off the bat: To really get in the spirit of summer, and to upgrade your beer fridge in the process, head over to Maxim to read my guide to the very best summer beers to sip on right now. Consider it but one checklist to get your weekend rolling in the right direction.
I’ll be on the hunt for some delicious summer beers myself this weekend, especially once I wrap up my writing work for sites like SPY.com and new gear Web site WERD.com. It’s also a momentous weekend for me in other ways, too — I get the opportunity to see one of my very favorite bands, the inimitable synth pop heroes Future Islands, at my favorite venue in the city, steel warehouse turned concert venue Brooklyn Steel! If you don’t yet know Future Islands, consider checking out the soulful song “Peach,” and then consider following me on Instagram to keep track of all the concert-related hijinks along the way. For now though, the rest of your Friday Read (and your weekend!) awaits.
The above T-shirt is just that: A simple T-shirt, right? I’d urge you to look more closely, because it’s a garment-dyed, vintage-style tee up for grabs right now at Bespoke Post, the kind of cool, breezy summer tee every guy can use. And better still is the fact that I wrote all about it on the blog just yesterday, in fact. Give it a read and consider adding it to your cart.
Elsewhere in my “world of writing,” you might say, I poured myself a nice dram of Bushmills Prohibition Recipe Whiskey and sat down to right all about the newest Bushmills x Peaky Blinders launch from the Official Whiskey of the Peaky Blinders. The British gangster drama blends some of my favorite things (fine tailoring, sharp haircuts and whiskey) into some explosive television, and it was such a thrill to cover the latest in this ongoing, seriously cool partnership for Maxim.
I’ll direct you back to my blog one last time before we wrap things up on this fine summer Friday. Finding the right mix of affordability and dependable style is a key idea behind, well, this very blog, so consider checking out the sub-$40 Huckberry Cruisers Sunglasses — they’re a prime weekend style move, and I wrote all about ’em earlier this week.
That’ll close out today’s Friday Read in fine form, I’d say — be sure to keep it tuned to the blog tomorrow for my Saturday Style Pick, then head back on Sunday to read about my latest Sunday Sale pick. Cheers, my friends!
Two options for the best summer polo for men, guaranteed.
Readers, do you see those two stylish polos above? Either could be the key to unlocking perfect weekend summer style — perfect style for the weekend we’ve got in front of us, in fact. I’ll be wearing something mighty similar to the Relwen Stripe Pique Slot Polo, and I’d recommend you do the same. What’s on your weekend agenda? For me, this lovely June weekend means it’s time for another music-centric road trip! If you follow me on Instagram or read the blog, you know I love — absolutely love — American indie rockers The National. They’re touring behind their new album and short film “I Am Easy To Find,” and with that tour comes the chance to visit another new city; this weekend, it’s Montreal! Have any suggestions on what I should do during my time in the city? I plan on checking out renowned spots like Joe Beef and Maison Publique for my fair share of amazing steak and cocktails, for starters. And of course, the Friday evening show at the beautiful-looking Place des Arts should also be phenomenal — I can’t recommend this new album enough, folks! That’s what I’ll be listening to as I head to Montreal. To start your own weekend off right, you know what to do: Check out the below Friday Read.
Undeniably a summer style essential, the best T-shirt for the season is nothing to mess around with. In the spirit of keeping you cool and sharp at the same time, I rounded up the best summer T-shirts for The Manual, all a necessary part of any collection of summer style essentials.
Just as you update your wardrobe with the changing seasons, so too should you update your beer fridge. It’s important! And with the spirit of refreshment and seasonal enjoyment in mind, I covered the best summer beers over at GearMoose, featuring a few of my personal favorites. Bottoms up!
Let’s stick with GearMoose for a second, shall we? If you’re searching for the best gear for a summer adventure, you’d do well to check out the Vivobarefoot x Finisterre Primus Trail Shoes, as I wrote about for one of my favorite style and gear sites. Happy exploring, folks.
OK, that’s going to bring today’s Friday Read to a close. Be sure to join us for our Style Pick of the Week tomorrow — you’re gonna love it. In the meantime, I’ll catch you over on Instagram. Enjoy the weekend, my friends.
OK, Style Guide readers — how was everyone’s Fourth of July? Productive? Relaxing? Ideally filled with quite a few of the best summer beers? I sure hope that was the case. I spent mine relaxing in Brooklyn, hitting up some of favorite coffee and craft beer spots, and putting in some light work on The Style Guide (hey, gotta hustle). At any rate, it’s been a quick, shortened week, what with the holiday falling on a Tuesday. But lest you think nothing’s gone down lately in the #menswear world … think again.
We’ve got plenty of ground to cover before we roll into the weekend. If summer shopping remains a priority for you, I’d urge you (strongly!) to look for affordable men’s style essentials and pick up one of the best men’s polos to buy now. I’d also urge you to pair said polo with some stylish shorts for the season — two foolproof moves that work for your next summer BBQ, your next beach trip or a casual stroll in your favorite park. Before you spend all your budget in one place, though … take a look at a few prime men’s style news items below, will ya? And with that, it’s nearly time to kick back for Friday happy hour — isn’t it? Follow along with me through the weekend on Instagram, and thanks for reading!
Among other #menswear writing pursuits, I’ve been doing some work for The Menlo House, the blogging arm of personalized style service and E-commerce shop FiveFour Club. As with so many men’s fashion matters, the devil is in the details — so my latest post covers how to upgrade your everyday carry in style. It’s as easy as that!
Looking for a minimal, sharply designed pair of shorts that function in more situations than you can count? That’s what SPUDS is aiming to produce — the brand says that its shorts (launching on Kickstarter on July 11th!) are meant to “redefine men’s activewear,” what with a blend of performance fabric and easily wearable colors. Learn more here, and look out for that launch next week.
While we’re on the subject of upgrading your everyday carry, I reckon that myself and the GearMoose team might have found the stylish wallet to buy now. It’s the Hitch & Timber Flat Jacket Wallet, and it’s a handcrafted, rugged beauty of a piece. Go get that wallet now!
Let’s close this week out with some stellar new music — agreed? If you haven’t caught on by now, Brooklyn-bred indie rock heroes The National are masters at crafting subtle, simple and yet detailed and complex songs. The band’s latest release, “Guilty Party,” is a multi-layered, multi-faceted song about love and loss — in short, it’s beautiful and it’s been on repeat here at The Style Guide HQ. Listen away!
Those quick-hit menswear and music items will wrap up today’s Friday Read. I think we’re on track for a great weekend, yes? Let me know on Twitter if you’ll be doing any shopping for summer style essentials, or if you’ve got any style-minded questions. With all that being said, I’ve got a happy hour to look forward to later — cheers and enjoy the weekend!
