The Friday Read: Jason Isbell, New Danner Boots and Relwen

Here we are, folks. It’s Friday, it’s October, and it’s time to cap off a heck of a week. I spent two incredible days last weekend at the iconic Forest Hills Stadium, celebrating the excellent inagural edition of There’s No Leaving New York. The lovely early fall weekend featured two extraordinary sets from my favorite band and my heroes, The National, plus stellar work from resurgent artists like Cat Power and Future Islands. Seriously, seeing Future Islands play poignant tracks like “Vireo’s Eye,” and then having that night capped off by my favorite band? It really doesn’t get any better, from classics and deep cuts like “About Today” and “Green Gloves,” along with a terrific Cat Power cover.

Saturday night’s performance also featured duets with rising indie rock luminary Phoebe Bridgers on “Sorrow and “I Need My Girl” — talk about a major treat, right?? It’s really been quite the year for The National playing their own festivals — it was a pleasure to be able to trek to Cincy in April for Homecoming, and I’m very hopeful the band brings back both festivals next year. You can follow along with all the fun on Twitter, or you can check out my work on Instagram. Now, let’s hop into a (relatively short) edition of The Friday Read.

A durable cross between hiking boots and Chelsea boots — read more below.

  • As a lover of both Twitter (yep) and live music, I found this Rolling Stone piece on folk rocker Jason Isbell to be mighty interesting — might you feel the same way? Time will tell.
  • So, it’s nearly the weekend after all, right? Finally. And I’ve got just the #OOTD for you. Featuring rugged Chelsea boots — that also happen to be hiking boots?  — along with a cozy, made-in-America sweatshirt and an essential long-sleeve tee, this ensemble can take on darn near anything.
  • Looking for a perfectly cozy fall layer? One that’s actually … stylish? That’s the Relwen Shag Fleece Pop-Zip, the subject of a recent entry of mine for GearMoose. I won’t spoil too much here!

OK, folks — that’s all we’ve got today. Let’s end the week on a high note and kick things off the right way!

#OOTD: How to Dress for Your Next Fall Weekend

Look around you, my friends — it’s well and truly fall! How about that? That means, at least in my mind, that you’ve got plenty on your to-do list: Football tailgating, brewery hopping, coffee shop visits, pumpkin picking, maybe even a brisk outdoor night of grilling. At any rate, you’re going to need to wear something — might as well reach for casual, durable fall style essentials that pack a punch and work in plenty of different scenarios. Start with a performance-minded flannel shirt to take you from the pumpkin patch to the distillery, then toss in other fall must-haves like a rugged long-sleeve henley, slim faded jeans and classic chukka boots. It’s a recipe for success, in my mind.  You’re getting comfort and warmth thanks to the henley-flannel combo, you’re getting the ability to last for long hours on your feet thanks to the Astorflex chukka boots, and you’re even getting a dash of the adventure-ready spirit of fall with your new favorite dive watch. Throw in accessories like a durable belt and stylish socks, and you’re all set. Granted, you’re not likely to be taking this rig on any deep-sea adventures … but just know that all the variables have been considered. So, let’s get you into today’s #OOTD. Like what you see? Check in with me on Twitter to let me know.

Everything you need for your next fall weekend, correct?

  • The Stylish Henley: Knickerbocker Mfg. Co Long-Sleeve Henley, $64.98 — Don’t think twice when it comes to picking up this classic long-sleeve henley, ideal for adding some visual interest to a weekend look.
  • The Flannel Shirt: Mizzen + Main Benton Plaid Flannel Shirt, $145 — The rare flannel shirt that’s rugged, yet refined. Perfect for weekend layering.
  • The Jacket: Abercrombie & Fitch Deck Bomber Jacket, $140 — A cozy, tough-as-heck jacket that channels classic maritime style.
  • The Classic Jeans: Buck Mason Slim Denim in 12-Month Wash, $178 — Timeless jeans in a pleasing wash that’ll wear easy for a fall weekend.
  • The Durable Fall Boots: Astorflex Greenflex in Dark Khaki, $145 — The classic suede chukka boots you’ve been waiting for. Seriously comfortable and seriously stylish.
  • The Socks: Danner Work Midweight Merino Crew Socks, $18 — Might as well reach for stylish socks to add comfort and functionality to your ensemble, right?
  • The Adventure-Ready Watch: DuFrane Watches Barton Springs 656 Diver, $590.98 — This outfit calls for a classic watch that can take a bit of a beating — DuFrane Watches has you covered, no questions asked.
  • The Belt: Arcade Belt Co. Guide Slim Belt, $30 —  A functional, capable belt that’s much more durable than average.

OK, who’s ready for a fall weekend? What’s on your agenda? Whatever that might be, I know you can take it on in comfort and style with pieces like a stretch flannel shirt and dependable base layers like a Knickerbocker Mfg. Co long-sleeve henley. Throw on a tough, heritage-inspired Abercrombie & Fitch jacket to nicely complement what should be a comfortable pair of slim, perfectly faded Buck Mason denim — always necessary for any weekend, if you ask me. On the footwear front, durable fall boots from Astorflex are a winning weekend style move, offering comfort through the elements — the same can be said when it comes to your Danner merino crew socks, right? And if I were you, I wouldn’t doubt the toughness or versatility of the exceptional DuFrane Springs Barton Watch or the adventure-ready quality of the Arcade Belt Co. Guide Slim Belt. And, well … that’s really all there is to it. Again, feel  free to check in with me via The Style Guide Facebook page to let me know your thoughts on these men’s style essentials for the season. Cheers!

The List: Gear Up for October with the Best New Men’s Style Gear to Shop Now

A beautiful pair of leather boots for fall — but one of today’s style essentials.

Here at The Style Guide, you can rest assured that we — and by “we,” I mean your humble staff of one — are always working to outfit you with men’s style essentials for the fall season. As we’ve been saying, it’s a time that requires durable, tough and versatile gear that can work for all the casual style scenarios the season offers, everything form apple picking to tailgating. In that regard, pieces like a stylish zip hooded sweatshirt or durable selvedge jeans have the potential to be daily favorites. As does a favorite record by a favorite band. So, here we go!

Vinyl Me, Please Records: “Boxer” by The National — $29

A classic album by a legendary band.

Is vinyl a fall style essential? When the days are cold, rainy and windy, you bet it is. That’s where the amazing “Boxer” —  by my favorite band (and my heroes) The National — comes in handy.
Todd Snyder x Red Wing 877 Moc Toe Boots — $380

Some of the best boots on tap this season, easily.

Handsome boots from a first-of-its-kind collaboration, available in two seriously cool colors. These are some of the best boots to buy for fall, easily.
Taylor Stitch Truckee Jacket in Moss — $158

The type of cozy, grab-and-go jacket you can wear with sweatpants, chinos or denim.

We’ve all seen decidedly unstylish, logo-heavy fleece jackets. The exceptional Taylor Stitch Truckee Jacket bucks all those trends and looks great doing it.
Bellroy Minimalist Set — $99

Just about all of the handy essentials you need on the daily.

It behooves you to keep your everyday carry essentials on lock — the Bellroy Minimalist Set can surely help you out there. Sleek, functional and stylish.
Taylor Stitch Glacier Shirt — $125

A rugged fall shirt — can’t get much better, right??

Seriously essential, seriously well-made and seriously excellent. That’s the Taylor Stitch Glacier Shirt for ya. The perfect fall shirt? Darn near.
Flint and Tinder Fieldhouse Hoodie — $88

A remarkably tough zip hoodie for casual weekends.

Don’t sleep on how useful a stylish zip hooded sweatshirt can be when it comes to fall and winter weekend layering. Wear this one with a rugged denim jacket.
Express Textured Wool-Blend Twill Topcoat — $298

A stylish, slim and affordable topcoat.

Sharp, tailored and easy to wear casually are the phrases I’d use to describe this tailored topcoat from Express, part of the brand’s new workwear collection.
YORK Athletics Mfg. Henry Low — $98.98

Stylish, sporty and casual sneakers for fall weekends.

Want a sneaker that acts as a hybrid between athletic and purely casual? YORK Athletics Mfg. has you sorted out.
Naked & Famous Slim Fit Duck Canvas Selvedge — $132.98

A rugged pair of pants that blend your favorite pair of denim with workwear.

Rich in color, well-crafted and blending the style of a jean with the comfort and durability of your favorite pair of work pants. Wear the Naked & Famous Slim Fit Duck Canvas Selvedge to a fall weekend hike — and then out for beers.
Wolverine Evans Boots — $400

Beautiful boots from a legendary brand.

It’s never hard to find great boots from Wolverine — the vintage-styled Evans Boots would look excellent with slim dark denim and a grey shawl-collar cardigan. Speaking of stylish men’s denim …
Levi’s Made & Crafted 511 Slim Jeans — $148

A terrific pair of easy-to-wear jeans.

The Levi’s Made & Crafted line amps up the premium quality you”ve come to expect from the brand, while at the same time reinventing classic styles for today. Sounds good to me.
LCD Soundsystem “American Dream” on Vinyl — $22

One of last year’s best albums — now on fall-friendly vinyl.

Yes, we’re talking more vinyl here. Among other Brooklyn-bred indie bands that are just as relevant today, LCD Soundsystem belongs in that conversation (along with The National!) thanks to last year’s excellent “American Dream” LP.
Flint and Tinder Moleskin Shirt Jacket — $188

A tough-as-nails shirt jacket for fall adventures.

OK, you’ve got your slim dark denim and your tough-as-nails Wolverine  boots .. now, my friends, you just need to pick up the comfortable, rugged Flint and Tinder Moleskin Shirt Jacket.
Bespoke Post Overcast Box — $45 (When Signing Up for Bespoke Post)

Just a couple essentials to keep you dry and organized.

OK, folks. We’re now done with another edition of The List. What are your thoughts? What are you shopping this season? I’d say you can’t go wrong when it comes time to layer up with the Flint and Tinder Moleskin Shirt Jacket. Cheers!

Style Pick of the Week: Red Wing Heritage Rover Boots

Timeless, durable leather boots that pass every test you could throw at ’em. Image courtesy of Red Wing Heritage.

Let’s keep it simple to start today’s Style Pick of the Week off the right way, folks: For fall, you need nothing less than the Red Wing Heritage Rover Boots on your feet. After all, if you’re going to snap up a pair of stylish leather boots just in time for the season, you might as well make ’em the best of the best.  And if you read the blog at all, you’re aware that we’re all about quality, timeless materials and a distinct sense of versatility & toughness — all of which Red Wing Heritage stands by. And the Rover Boots in particular sit right in the crosshairs of what you should be looking for this fall — boots that simply won’t quit, the kind that’ll pair with your favorite dark denim and a flannel shirt or a thermal henley for weekend (and weekday) adventures aplenty. They’ll work with more outdoors-minded pieces like tough chore pants and a rugged flannel-lined trucker jacket, too. What separates the Red Wing Heritage Rover Boots from the rest of the pack?

SHOP: The Red Wing Heritage Rover Boots and Red Wing Basic Care Product Kit

It’s simple: The same approach and attention to detail that makes any pair of boots from the brand tough to beat. The best boots for fall start with the best leather, and Red Wing sits at the top in that category — they make it look easy with full-grain, oil-tanned leather from their own Minnesota tannery. Goodyear welt construction, a process that allows the boots to be resoled after years of hard wear, also, sets the beautifully rugged Red Wing Heritage Rover Boots apart from the pack.

Red Wing Heritage

Another look at the workman-like profile of these tough leather boots.

The construction of these boots is notable for another reason — they’re, somewhat incredibly, water, stain and perspiration-resistant — yep, the Rover Boots are as tough and stylish as it gets. You’re also riding easy in terms of comfort: These durable boots are built from the ground up with a crepe rubber sole. So, you know they can stand up to most anything. Might I also suggest you snag a handy Red Wing product care kit to keep the Rover Boots looking fresh? That’ll do it. Heck, even the price is a selling point when it comes to the Red Wing Heritage Rover Boots — try finding a pair of boots like this for under $300 anywhere else. It’s tough to do, yes? I think you’ll agree with me when I say the Red Wing Heritage Rover Boots are all you need for fall, right down to the USA-made construction. Who else is ready to break out these handsome, rugged and stylish boots? I thought so. If you pick up these boots, keep me posted on Twitter. And thanks for reading!

#OOTD: How to Wear Your Favorite Crewneck Sweater for a Casual Weekend

A classic, American-made crewneck and rugged, functional gear picks.

We’re shaking up the format of our #OOTD posts just a bit this go-round — notice the ensemble full of men’s style essentials, now positioned at the TOP of the page. So, here we go. We’re getting into it with a classic, comfortable and well-made crewneck sweater from American Giant, a favorite brand. And we’re accenting it with plenty of casual fall style essentials, the sort of gear that’s going to work for a weekend of orchard or winery tours, a pub crawl, a trip upstate or just a laidback day lounging at home, watching some college football and doing a little yard work. Truly, the Danner Mountain 600 Chelsea Boots and casual layering pieces like your new favorite long-sleeve tee are going to get a ton of mileage in each of those scenarios. Why get all “dressed up” just to do those things? As we always say at The Style Guide, the small details matter, and this casual #OOTD gets plenty of ’em right (at least, that’s what I think). So, away we go!

  • The Crewneck Sweater: American Giant Classic Crew in Navy, $94 — See, told you we’d start off with a tried-and-true essential. Soft fabric, an easy-to-layer fit and a rich, neutral Navy color make this a new fall and winter must-have.
  • The Essential Long-Sleeve TeeJungmaven Baja Long-Sleeve Pocket Tee, $49.98 — Comfortable, casual and yet surprisingly good-looking — that’s what you get with the Jungmaven Baja Tee. Not your average long-sleeve shirt, to say the least.
  • The Pants: Faherty Brand Comfort Twill 5-Pocket Pants, $148 — More casual than chinos, a bit more versatile than denim, more dressed up than sweatpants — these Comfort Twill 5-Pocket Pants have laidback weekend style written all over ’em, yet you can also wear them on a day hike or a trip upstate.
  • The Rugged Fall BootsDanner Mountain 600 Chelsea Boots, $170 — Blending the comfort of sneakers with the tough appeal and go-anywhere nature of hiking boots, the Danner Mountain 600 bridge that gap nicely.
  • The Socks: Danner Work Midweight Merino Crew Socks, $17 — And to go with the Danner Mountain 600? Why, functional and comfortable Danner socks, of course. That’s the good stuff right there.
  • The Belt: Filson 1-1/2” Leather Belt, $85 — Worried about matching the color of this stylish Filson belt to your boots?  That’s the point of this #OOTD being so casual — don’t worry about it so much, my man.
  • The Watch: Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 53 Compression Watch, $900 — Going to be doing some yard work or slamming a few beers? Rugged stuff either way — and the lovely Zodiac Super Sea Wolf is the way to go.
  • The Vintage-Inspired BallcapFlint and Tinder Washed Cap, $40 — A recent addition to the Flint and Tinder line, the Flint and Tinder Washed Cap is like a “dad hat” … but much better, much cooler and less trendy.
  • The Everyday Carry Essential: Bespoke Post Terra Box, $45 (When Signing Up for Bespoke Post— Now, you might not need all of the gear in the Bespoke Post Terra Box — but if you’re heading out on a camping trip or doing some heavy-duty yard work, well, there you go.

How did we do with the new format of today’s #OOTD? Did you find it helpful to get ready for your next outdoor fall adventure? As I always say, when you build from the ground up with a classic, American-made sweater, it makes it all the easier to layer up in comfort and style with essentials like the Jungmaven Baja Tee. The casual-yet-crisp nature of the Comfort Twill 5-Pocket Pants makes this ensemble one that can go outdoors (day hike, anyone?) or to a round of burgers and beers — the same goes for the comfortable Danner Mountain 600 and even the excellent Danner Work Midweight Merino Crew Socks. I also maintain that you’re going to get a heck of a lot of use out of the stylish Filson belt — it’s a tough accessory that fits right in with fall and winter. Quick, check your wrist — are you wearinng a rugged everyday watch like the incredible (and investment-worthy) Zodiac Super Sea Wolf? If you haven’t thought about upgrading your off-duty watch, now’s the time to start. To top things off in exceptionally laidback style, go with a cool ballcap like the Flint and Tinder Washed Cap, then finish it all off with the supremely handy Bespoke Post Terra Box. Who’s ready to get out there and go? I sure am. As always, thanks for reading!

The Friday Read: Audiotree Music Festival, The First Day of Fall and the Best Men’s Leather Belts

So, this weekend marks a pivotal turning point in the calendar (and yes, in your search for men’s style essentials). Tomorrow is officially, truly the first day of fall! If you’re anything like the savvy shopper I think you are, perhaps you’ve been keeping up with our ongoing entries on layering for fall, or the best fall boots. That being said, there’s still time to prepare — it’s the best season for menswear, and I’ll say that day after day if I have to. How are you enjoying the season? For me, fall is about taking in the crisp weather in NYC and Michigan, and enjoying more seasonally inclined favorites (Octoberfest brews, anyone?). On that note, I had the chance to swing by a special NYC launch party last week (at Our Wicked Lady) for Canadian brewers Collective Arts Brewing — from hazy IPAs to a neat Guava Gose, these Hamilton-based brewers seamlessly blend excellent beers with custom artwork and cool ways to support musicians. It’s an innovative and entrepreneurial approach to craft beer that injects some life into the industry. Speaking of beer and live music …

This weekend in particular is one that blends both those fine categories! That specifically means I’m heading back to Michigan for my first trip to the Audiotree Music Festival (in the beer-centric city of Kalamazoo!). On my list to see on Saturday? Headliners Local Natives, a favorite band of both of ours! They make incredibly poignant and lovely music, and some amazing songs in particular (including the poetic “Everything All at Once.”), and it’s helpful that they’re a band of kind, talented, caring (and very stylish!) guys. What’s more, it’ll be very fun to see them for the first time since Govenors Ball 2017 — prior to that, I caught the band in a spring 2017 trip to Pittsburgh. Of course, bands like Brooklyn indie rockers Diet Cig should also prove pretty fun to see at Audiotree, what with their unique blend of energetic, punk-inspired rock. Aside from Audiotree, I’m looking forward to catching up with family and relaxing in Pure Michigan. What are you listening to this weekend? What are you wearing this weekend? Feel free to let know on Twitter, or follow along on Instagram

  • Let’s keep it easy to start: Looking for a stylish and surprisingly affordable crewneck sweatshirt? The folks at Gustin have you covered — read more at Well-Spent.
  • Speaking of stylish and essential gear, I covered the best men’s leather belts for my buddies at The Manual. There are some of my favorite brands of the moment featured, including WP Standard (see more of them on my Instagram) and of course, Abercrombie & Fitch (makers of your new favorite chinos).
  • And last but not least: Fall, for me, means stepping into a stylish pair of leather boots (kind of like the Rancourt & Co. Wolf Boots, for starters). That’s why it was such a pleasure to be able to speak to the inimitable Mr. Todd Snyder about his latest collaboration, the excellent Red Wing x Todd Snyder 877 Moc Toe Boots. They’re durable, they’re exceptionally well-made, and they look seriously great. Try them out for yourself, soon.

That’s going to do it for me today, my friends. I’ve got a music festival to attend and some brews to enjoy — cheers!

#OOTD: Wear Your New Favorite Fall Shirt This Way

If you’re anything like your Style Guide author, you’ve been anxiously watching the weather and counting the days until we’re well and truly into fall — and with that being said, I think it’s high time you broke out your new favorite fall shirt. Coming at you courtesy of Taylor Stitch, you’re going to love the layering potential and rugged appeal of the Taylor Stitch Yosemite Shirt, this time paired up with a rugged shawl-collar cardigan, classic slim men’s denim and stylish leather moccasins from the folks at Rancourt & Co. All things considered, the fall style essentials in this #OOTD run deep.  And that’s great news for you — that means you can take this ensemble through plenty of fall occasions, from a weekend coffee date to a fall travel day to an easygoing dinner out on the town — and if your office lets you get away with dressing down, well then … I’d wager you’ll be the best-dressed guy in the office, without looking like you broke a sweat (A side note: This business casual #OOTD can help if you need to dress up more). Plus, you’ve got functionality on your side in more ways than one — the Taylor Stitch Yosemite Shirt is ready to layer up for inclement weather, the beautiful Shinola Runwell Watch can handle just about anything, and the Traveler Ranger Moc from Rancourt & Co. have the potential to be your new go-to, off-duty fall footwear. How’s that for a full ensemble packed with essential men’s gear? Looks pretty good to me. So, without further ado, let’s greet fall in stride — and in style.

A new essential fall shirt, plus other gear for rugged layering.

  • The Classic Fall Shirt: Taylor Stitch Yosemite Shirt, $109.98— A much-loved favorite season after season, the rugged, pleasingly classic Taylor Stitch Yosemite Shirt looks better than ever, particularly in Red Buffalo Plaid. Feel free to wear it with a stylish long-sleeve henley.
  • The Cardigan: Old Navy Shawl Collar Cardigan, $22.50 — Keep your eyes on Old Navy in particular this fall season — this affordable men’s style brand is churning out easy-to-wear basics that are anything but basic.
  • The Denim: Flint and Tinder Stonewashed Jeans, $128 — As previously seen in our Style Pick of the Week  series, these timeless men’s jeans feature a great broken-in look and feel for go-anywhere fall style.
  • The Rugged Fall Shoes: Rancourt & Co. Traveler Ranger Moc, $315 — Handcrafted and made with serious attention to detail, the Traveler Ranger Moc from Rancourt & Co. should prove a handsome, fall weekend-ready pair of footwear. Slip ’em on and go just about anywhere.
  • The Socks: CHUP Niyol Socks, $35 — Comfortable & featuring a fall-friendly pattern, the CHUP Niyol Socks  will look mighty stylish peeking out from underneath the rolled cuffs of your Flint and Tinder denim.
  • The Watch: Shinola Runwell Watch, $550 — The casual durability and rugged-yet-refined style of Shinola men’s watches can really go anywhere — even on an upstate day trip or a weekend coffee run.
  • The Belt: Levi’s Aberdeen Belt, $38 — Keep things understated yet rugged with your accessories — Levi’s does a fine job making a simple, durable belt to go along with its classic men’s denim.
  • The Morning Jolt: Ratio Eight Coffee Maker, $484.98 — To me, weekend style essentials like the incredible  Taylor Stitch Yosemite Shirt are very well-suited to lounging around at home or apres-ski. The Ratio Eight Coffee Maker can come in mighty handy in that regard.
  • The Grooming Essentials: O’Doud’s Custom Grooming Package, $66 — Whether you find yourself on the road for a fall weekend getaway (here’s the weekender bag to pack) or simply heading out to run errands, keep your ‘do and your skincare routine fresh with the O’Doud’s Custom Grooming Package.

That’s going to do it for this essential fall #OOTD — what’s your take on it? I think you’re going to love the rugged dependability you’re getting from the classic Taylor Stitch Yosemite Shirt, a new favorite when it comes to your list of fall style essentials — no matter how you wear it. That shirt should pair easily with a casual shawl-collar cardigan from Old Navy (yes, Old Navy!), while the Flint and Tinder Stonewashed Jeans are nothing less than a dependable, go-anywhere pair of denim. That whole combo will stand out quite stylishly when paired with the incredible Traveler Ranger Moc from Rancourt & Co.— I guarantee you they’re an entirely unique footwear option.  And whether you head to brunch or head to an outdoor bonfire, the Shinola Runwell Watch and the well-made Levi’s Aberdeen Belt are can’t-miss menswear accessories. Of course, if you feel like staying in, you’re going to need some coffee — it’s an investment, but the Ratio Eight Coffee Maker is going to be very, very well worth it. Lastly, your grooming routine deserves a shot in the arm — the O’Doud’s Custom Grooming Package is going to offer you plenty of potential to keep your skin in great shape. And, well, that’s that. Like what you see? Feel like picking up the Taylor Stitch Yosemite Shirt? Just want to drop in and say hi? Head over to Twitter

The Friday Read: Taylor Stitch Tees, Red Wing Boots & Everyday Carry Essentials

Does it feel strange to be barreling through September and looking toward (gulp) October? It seems to me like it was just yesterday we were talking about the best menswear to close out summer, doesn’t it? At any rate, we’re well and truly in full-on fall prep mode. I’ve got a couple exciting early fall men’s style features in the works for GearMoose and The Manual for which I’m really PUMPED about (yes, PUMPED). More on that soon. And in the meantime, I’m very much looking forward to taking an evening flight back to Pure Michigan,  with a relaxing weekend on tap, one no doubt fueled by iced coffee and perhaps a trip to the new Founders Brewing Detroit Taproom — what about you? If you need to shop for fall style essentials, this blog has you covered.  If you simply want to find your new favorite pair of denim, again, your trusty friends at The Style Guide are here to help. And if you’re just looking for something to read or peruse? Again, check out the latest Friday Read. Thanks for being along for the ride!

  • My buddies at The Manual always keep things sharp and in line when it comes to your everyday carry essentials — and their post on the best men’s wallets is no different. Keeping your cards handy no matter what will only help you this fall — trust me on that.
  • Last but not least, here’s a bit of music news for you — if you haven’t yet checked out the emotive, powerful indie rock being put out by Lindsey Jordan in Snail Mail, well, here’s my recommendation. Simply put, Snail Mail’s debut album, “Lush,” is just excellent. In fact, you can hear it coming to a venue near you soon — Snail  Mail just extended their tour recently. Get on board, plug in and rock out.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, brings us to the conclusion of another Friday Read. You can be sure we’re gearing up for a great weekend — and a great Style Pick of the Week tomorrow, no less. Still in need of something to read? This #OOTD shows you how to wear a chambray shirt.  Heading to a weekend rock concert? Dress like this. OK, folks — that’s all I’ve got. Cheers!

#OOTD: How to Wear Classic High-Top Sneakers this Fall

It could be easy to dismiss something as simple as the classic high-top sneaker, but we here at The Style Guide think that would be … well, a mistake. Classic high-top sneakers — like the Chuck Taylor high-tops featured today — can work with just about anything in your wardrobe, especially for fall. A navy blazer, tan chinos and a white Oxford? Yes, that’s a winner. Something as laidback as tailored sweatpants and a stylish white T-shirt? Go for it. What about other men’s style essentials, fall-ready pieces like a rugged henley and classic dark denim? Rest assured, a pair like the Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star can work with ease. These shoes have history and style to burn, and they’re the perfect pair of kicks to reach for when you want to shake up an outfit filled with mostly easygoing pieces (such as the classic crewneck sweatshirt & Oxford shirt combo as featured below). Throw in a stylish casual watch and you’re ready for casual style scenarios aplenty. Heck, the sneakers on their own have enough style and street cred to carry most outfits, and they’ll put you over the top in most instances (no one else at your tailgate has these, right). Now, without further ado, let’s get you acquainted with this full ensemble — fall fashion can’t wait, after all.

That’ll wrap up this #OOTD quite nicely, don’t you think? Like other fall style essentials, if you start with something as classic and recognizable as stylish high-top sneakers, you’re in good shape — heck, you can do almost anything. The Myles Apparel Elements Crew is a prime casual layer, fit for throwing on over a unique Oxford shirt or a thermal long-sleeve tee in equal measure.  The Flint and Tinder Stretch Selvage Jeans are the perfect antidote to overly stiff stretch selvage, and they’ll look sharp when rolled up atop your Converse. On to your accessories: Never underestimate the versatility of a stylish casual watch, especially one that’s made for a bit of adventure (or tailgating). From there, we really get rolling — you’re going to want to bring the Blue Hour Growler to your next fall weekend get-together, along with the tough (and beer-friendly!) Fjallraven Greenland Top. Of course, a stylish leather wallet is always something you should have handy, and keeping that ‘do fresh with Maapilim Hair Cream is a wise, wise bet. Alright, my friends. What do you have to say about this #OOTD? How are you accessorizing your high-top sneakers?
