The Friday Find: Flint and Tinder’s Block Print Camp Collar Shirt Is My New Summer Go-To

My friends, we’re back on a lovely summer Friday here in Brooklyn, hot on the heels of an absolutely stunning trip last week to Scotland and Northern Ireland (with Loch Lomond Malts and Two Stacks Irish Whiskey!) as part of my many freelance writing pursuits. For more of my spirits writing, you should also check out my byline at Maxim.com.

And you can — and should! — keep up with all the fun on my Instagram, but for now, let’s switch things up ever so slightly to start your weekend off the right way.

Consider this an occasional departure from the norm: Most every Friday, I spotlight what I’ve been reading and writing, where I’ve been traveling and from time to time, what to shop and sip. So, the Friday Find series will do more of the same, but in a digestible form (and the Friday Read will still appear here regularly, my friends!).

But for now, let’s dive into one stellar product I’ve been loving — and wearing — lately. And of course, you can still expect two weekend style dispatches heading your way Saturday and Sunday. Now, to business with one of my new favorite summer shirts.

There’s no time like the present to embrace the second half of summer with some serious pattern and color. And while Flint and Tinder’s lineup of menswear from our good friends at Huckberry normally leans a touch more rugged — from USA-made T-shirts to stretch denim — the Flint and Tinder Block Print Camp Collar Shirt is a breezy change of pace I can’t help but appreciate.

Available right now for under $75 via the stellar Huckberry Summer Sale (more on that to follow over the weekend), the handsome Flint and Tinder Block Print Camp Collar Shirt lives up to its name with a custom, hand-blocked print blending subtle navy and a vibrant tan-orange pattern.

It’s fun, it’s fresh, it’s a departure from more typical Hawaiian-printed shirts, and the Flint and Tinder Block Print Camp Collar Shirt nails a dash of retro style with its classic camp collar design. In short, if you’re looking for one shirt to buy this weekend and rock the rest of summer — from the beach to a boardwalk to a BBQ — then the Flint and Tinder Block Print Camp Collar Shirt is just what Dr. Huckberry ordered, you might say. Cheers to that, my friends — and thanks for tagging along for the ride in our new Friday Find series!

See Now, Buy Now: The Buck Mason Campus Knit Oxford is Your Most Reliable Summer Shirt

Best Oxford shirt for men.

The best menswear essentials often have a little more to them than meets the eye, a fact you assuredly know if you’ve read the blog on the regular — and a fact you know if you regularly shop the timeless Americana menswear being produced by the good folks at Buck Mason. Take the Oxford shirt. So named for the Oxford cloth that originally produced the style Across the Pond, the Oxford shirt is a prep staple and now, a Swiss Army Knife you can dress up or dress down, even in the summer months — and my friends, this is where the Buck Mason Campus Knit Oxford is ready to step right up and join your wardrobe.

Hopefully, you’ve already ramped up your summer wardrobe with other Buck Mason style picks, like the famed Buck Mason Twill Officer’s Chinos, another modern-meets-classic style upgrade. If you’re still looking for that ideal shirt to wear from the summer into early fall (yes, it’s on the way!), then the Buck Mason Campus Knit Oxford is going to check off more than a few boxes. Let’s count the ways, yes?

Best men's Oxford shirt.

The kicker with the Buck Mason Campus Knit Oxford is both the inspiration and the fabric itself — here, Buck Mason has taken design cues from vintage shirting by using a textured 7oz. yarn-dyed cotton for some nice depth and visual interest, plus an all-season weight.

In short, you can wear the Buck Mason Campus Knit Oxford with everything from stretch chino shorts in the heat of summer to, well, the aforementioned Buck Mason Twill Officer’s Chinos in the fall and winter (layered accordingly, naturally). For now though, make the Buck Mason Campus Knit Oxford a part of your regular summer style rotation, my friends.

See Now, Buy Now: Try Out This Todd Snyder Shirt for Hot Summer Days

A breezy, cool-as-can-be linen shirt for hot summer days — all from Todd Snyder.

Alright, my friends. We talked earlier this summer about how essential a Todd Snyder shirt can be for the summer months, and we’re back at it again today with the latest and greatest summer style move from the lauded NYC menswear designer as part of our ever-running See Now, Buy Now series. The point being, if you want a classic summer shirt that blends an ever-so-slightly rugged appeal with the type of breezy fabric the season requires, you want this Todd Snyder Italian Linen Utility Shirt. If you recall, we previously featured the rugged and functional Todd Snyder Utility Shirt on the blog in a short-sleeve cut, but what if you want a little more coverage from the sun’s rays? Then this Todd Snyder linen shirt is the right way to go. Linen is perhaps the quintessential summer fabric, featuring a looser and more breathable weave to keep you cool. That means it tends to wrinkle more easily, but hey … who said a bit of character was a bad thing? It’s certainly not going to change the fact that Todd Snyder has come up with one of the best summer shirts for men, no doubt.

Easygoing fabric and a great summer colorway help set this summer shirt apart.

What makes the Todd Snyder Italian Linen Utility Shirt so essential? For one, it’s modeled off the classic and pocket-filled safari shirt, a staple that Mr. Todd Snyder has made all his own in recent years. This one gets a more tailored cut — yet you can still layer it atop your favorite T-shirt — and it also features handy front-button chest pockets. The fabric is breezy and breathable Solbiati Italian linen, also done up nicely in a breezy Teal color. That summer-friendly shade makes this an excellent shirt to wear when it’s hot out — and because it’s linen, you can team this Todd Snyder shirt with everything from slim tan chinos and white leather sneakers to easygoing leather loafers and navy chino shorts. Your summer plans might be more socially distanced than usual, but the Todd Snyder Italian Linen Utility Shirt is undoubtedly going to get you through the dog days of summer in style. Try it, find out and then let me know your thoughts on Twitter.

The Friday Read: The Best New Summer Shirt, Fourth of July Weekend & Huckberry Essentials

Editor’s note: If you like what you read here, you might love The Style Guide In Brief, a mini-newsletter I’m launching next week. Expect 2-3 weekly dispatches on what to wear, what to imbibe and what to listen to — coming soon! Click here to learn more and sign up.
Hey hey, whaddya say? “Dad-style” greetings aside, I’m about as upbeat as can be as we head into what should be a laidback (albeit unique) Fourth of July weekend. In fact, I’m about as laidback and relaxed as the Surfside Supply Shirt seen above, available via the good folks at Bombfell — it’s one of the best short-sleeve shirts for summer, with the kind of style you should look to channel this weekend (cold beer sold separately). I’ll be wearing several of my favorite short-sleeve shirts for summer all weekend long, not least because it’s time for the big one: A safely done trip back to Michigan to see my family after long, long months in quarantine in Brooklyn. I’ll be taking all necessary precautions as I leave the city, masked up and hand sanitizer going strong — and in Michigan, social distancing via my brother’s lovely house will be key. With my family’s approval, we all feel safe, healthy and ready for some quality time together! Above all else, it’ll be a relief to see family and visit (socially distanced!) with friends after some long, tough months in New York City.

You best believe I’ll be packing summer style essentials from brands like Taylor Stitch on the trip, and I’ll also be looking forward to sipping on some fresh craft beer and of course, chowing down on a few hearty burgers right off the grill.  What’s on your agenda for these strange and trying times? I can only hope it involves rest, relaxation, and of course … the Friday Read we’ve got outlined below. In search of new artwork for your home or a new, cool beer glass? Those tidbits can be found below (keep scrolling!). It also seems like as good a time as any to kick back with some relaxing summer jams — I put together this WFH playlist earlier this year, but now would be the right time to enjoy some laidback listening around the bonfire, right? Yes, indeed (think Yo La Tengo, Alvvays & Big Thief, to name a few!). Keep on scrolling for more from the world of menswear and beyond, and I’m wishing everyone a very happy Fourth of July weekend. Stay safe out there, folks!

A seriously cool way to enjoy your favorite beer.

  • Let’s talk for a second about beer to drink this weekend — or rather, a new beer glass to buy as you  imbibe your favorite craft beer for the Fourth of July and beyond. The good folks at Huckberry are now selling the seriously cool Whiskey Peaks Beer Glass, featuring a topographic impression of Yosemite National Park’s Half Dome. Is it one of the coolest beer glasses around — for this weekend and well beyond? Yes, sir — no doubt.
  • We just talked about the best glass for your beer, so … wondering what to sip on this weekend? In my mind, that’s easy — you’re going to want the aptly named Anchor Liberty Ale, an iconic craft beer that’s meant to be enjoyed during a hot day on the boat or a cool evening around a bonfire. Heck, if you’re in the San Francisco area, use the handy Anchor Beer To Go feature for curbside pick-up — those outside the Bay Area should head toward the Anchor Beer Finder to find this legendary beer elsewhere. Brewed 45 years ago to honor the 200th anniversary of Paul Revere’s famed midnight ride, this is a classic craft beer worth enjoying again and again.
  • If you’re not about the most sustainable menswear around, well, you should certainly change that approach. It gets all the easier when you consider Wellen from my good friends at Huckberry. This surf-and-sun brand channels laidback summer style to a “T,”‘ as you might have read about on the blog in the past. With that being said, I rounded up the best style essentials from Wellen for GearMoose — give it a read, then stock up accordingly.

That’s just about going to wrap it up for me today, folks. But wait … I’m going to leave you with one last Fourth of July style suggestion. You need to have some cool boat shoes on your feet this weekend, and better yet, you need to know how to wear boat shoes in the best way possible for the rest of summer. That’s where this #OOTD comes into play — in fact, the Todd Snyder x Sebago boat shoes featured in that piece are some of the most unique ones I’ve seen in recent memory. I hope you feel the same, and I hope you enjoy time with family & friends this weekend. Thanks for reading — next round’s on me!

Cheers,

-Beau
