The Friday Read: Everlane’s New Shoes, The Best Men’s Shirt for Winter & The Best Serums for Men

Ever come across a shirt that’s so well-suited for a winter weekend, it makes you wonder why you’ve never come across it before? That’s my first thought when considering the stellar lineup of rugged, rough-and-tumble and yet classic men’s long-sleeve shirts from Western retailer Tecovas, a brand you need to know. You might remember I talked about Tecovas, makers of some of the most stylish leather Chelsea boots, a few weeks back on the blog, but they do much more than craft just durable, timeless Western leather boots (note the Tecovas Brushed Cotton Pearl Snap Shirt — as seen above). Of note: You can earn $25 for every $100 you spend, too. It’s high time you upgraded your shirting wardrobe, and if you ask me, a sub-$100 Western shirt from Tecovas is a mighty fine way to do that as head into a December weekend. What else should you shop this weekend? I’m glad you asked.

You could start with my guide for The Manual covering the best puffer jackets, particularly as chilly December weather hits, and you could also really step things up and scour my music and menswear newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief, for both style and music picks. How about that, ehh? Of course, I’ve got a few more picks beyond what I’ve recommended above. Let’s read and shop to keep that Friday rolling.

  • I’m going to shine a spotlight on a recent release that I think is perfectly well-suited to your weekend shopping pursuits. Everlane just released a new collection of men’s shoes, including a pair of classic desert boots and some new Everlane men’s sneakers. Both retail for just $125 and come in two crisp shades of suede, so you can’t go wrong when it comes down to the right mix of high-low holiday style.
  • Let’s step from a men’s footwear pick into a new grooming essential to upgrade your routine ASAP. Over at AskMen.com, I wrote about the best serums for men, which have the potential to nourish, smooth and soften your mug in just hours. See for yourself which ones are my favorites — of course, I had to include Caldera+Lab and American Provenance. Happy shopping, folks.
  • In need of a pair of go-anywhere blue jeans, the kind that work at the office and on the road? Allow me to offer up my guide to the best blue jeans to wear anywhere, for the holidays, at the office and beyond. Check it out at The Manual to get the full scoop.

That’ll wrap up today’s Friday Read, which hopefully gives you plenty of time to shop and read those choice selections above. But I’ve got one more pick for you before we roll through Friday — the good folks at Shinola specialize in the best men’s watches, sure, but they’ve also done quite the job of crafting the best leather wallet for men, which I wrote about here. Stock up accordingly, my friends. And TGIF!

The Friday Read: The Huckberry Undercover Sale, The Best New Boots for Men & Fall’s Best Jeans

Men's Chelsea Boot - Handmade Calfskin and Suede Leather | The Chance

Do yourself a favor and step into the weekend with some of the best boots for men on your feet, especially as we roll through late November, yes? And the boots in question you should be shopping come from one heck of a place: That’d be Tecovas, makers of the stylish leather Chelsea boots you see above, plus a whole bunch of both traditional and on-trend Western boots for men. I’ve gotten to know the brand over the past year-and-a-half or so, and consider this an early endorsement for your weekend: They’re absolutely a brand to know and shop, first launched by founder Paul Hedrick and focused on cowboy boots. These days, the Austin-based company goes just beyond cowboy boots and really does make some of the best boots for men (those Chelsea boots shown above in particular!). In short, you can expect to see a lot more of them on the blog going forward, but you’d do well to add to your rotation of stylish leather boots right now in the meantime.

It’s fitting that I’m kicking off today’s Friday Read talking about Tecovasas we speak, I’m actually in western Mexico (the famed city of Guadalajara, to be exact!) on a press trip with famed tequila brand Jose Cuervo! I’m visiting Guadalajara and Tequila to learn about the process behind making Jose Cuervo tequila, going out into the agave fields themselves and exploring the city and region in the meantime. There’s also an exciting Jose Cuervo announcement in the works, but I can’t quite share details on that yet. For now, how about you do yourself a favor and get some Jose Cuervo delivered for happy hour later via Drizly? I’ll be sure to report back on the trip, but for now, you can follow along on Instagram to get the full scoop. I’ll be enjoying my fair share of Jose Cuervo this weekend before trekking back to the States (negative COVID test in hand!), and with that being said, do yourself a favor and settle in to read about my top style, shopping and reading picks this weekend. Cheers!

Gifts | Huckberry
  • It’s never too early to start shopping for the best holiday gifts, is it? Of course, there’s one place I recommend above all others, and that’d be Huckberry. The Huckberry 2021 Gift Guide should be of particular interest this weekend, because now through November 21st, you can shop the Huckberry Undercover Sale to get the best deals on the site’s best-selling items (especially ones done up in all-black to fit with that undercover theme). Beyond that, it’s also an ideal time to shop early and often to get the best gifts for the rugged outdoorsman, the style lover and more in your life. What’s not to love about Huckberry’s Gift Guide and the Huckberry Undercover Sale, ehh?
A New Denim; Mott & Bow – MaleCritique
  • I’ve talked on the blog in recent weeks about the best men’s sweatpants to buy for cozy holiday lounging – those would be from Mott and Bow, of course — but what about if you need something with some more polish? In case you needed a reminder (and especially ahead of the holiday season, where you need jeans you can wear with anything), Mott and Bow is giving first-time customers 10 percent off with the code beau10. If you’ve already tried out the brand’s classic blue jeans, then I can’t recommend enough that you return to the well again, so to speak, and shop more Mott and Bow.
  • I wear a lot of hats in terms of my menswear writing, including writing plenty of guides to the best menswear for The Manual. That being said, I think it pays off to have style resources at your disposal, and that’s why I love personal styling service Stitch Fix. You can also shop the brand’s Stitch Fix Freestyle program, which allows you to shop entire outfits at once. All that being said, my latest dispatch for The Manual covers the best outfits to buy now at Stitch Fix, and there’s something for everyone. Complete your profile, answer your style quiz and get started on finding the best men’s style essentials for you.

That’ll nearly wrap things up in my latest Friday dispatch, but I’ll leave you with one more style pick as I head into a weekend of tequila tasting (beyond recommending that you shop some of the best boots for men at Tecovas). Yes indeed, in addition to that, consider shopping one of the most affordable men’s shirt jackets right now at another Austin-based brand, Howler Brothers. Now, while that shirt jacket has sold quite fast, it’s always worth shopping the Texas purveyors of rugged gear made for adventures and good times. With that, I’ve got some tequila to drink. Enjoy the weekend and happy shopping!

The Friday Read: The Best Long-Sleeve Shirts, Rugged Fall Gear from Outerknown & the Best Pomades

Levi's Wellthread X Outerknown Clean up Dirty Denim | The Manual

Folks, if you caught last Friday’s weekly recap, perhaps you’re familiar with the brand featured above. That’d be sustainable menswear brand Outerknown, always a reliable company to shop if you want eco-conscious menswear at agreeable prices. They’re my recommended brand to send you into the weekend, of course, and although its Warehouse Sale ended earlier this week, there’s really not a bad time to shop the Kelly Slater-founded brand. Consider that my first recommendation in a weekly recap post that’s positively packed with ’em. As you’ll see below (and as you know if you follow me on Instagram), I’ve been staying busy with menswear bylines aplenty at some of my favorite sites — hopefully, these picks will guide you when it comes to your dressing and grooming routines.

As for me, I’m going to enjoy a Brooklyn weekend with hot coffee and cold beer at the ready, with some stops lined up at a few of my favorite haunts. What’s on your weekend to-do list? To get things rolling the right way, how about some shopping and reading? Yes, indeed. Take a look and let’s get to it.

Men's Sweats | Mott & Bow | Elevated Basics. Grounded Price.
  • Here’s a very apt style and shopping suggestion for you with a laidback weekend on the horizon. Earlier this week, I wrote all about the best sweatpants for fall and winter here on the blog, and they come from a brand that makes your favorite jeans — that’d be Mott and Bow. Get your new sweats for this weekend right here.
  • Have you started to head back to the office yet? Every now and again? When you do, even if your office leans more casual, it pays off to look and feel your best. That starts with your routine, which can get quite the nice upgrade if you check out my guide to the best pomades for men these days. Head to AskMen for the latest, folks.
  • Layering is of the essence in the fall and winter months, particularly when the thermostat starts to drop. That’s where another menswear guide of mine comes into play. Over at The Manual, I’m offering up my top picks for the best long-sleeve shirts for men, with something in every category and price point.

Before you roll into the weekend, I’ll point you in the right direction — in terms of the best new boots for men, that is. I wrote all about the latest iteration of the Huckberry x Danner Vertigo 917 Gold Rush Boots, a pair of boots that simply can’t be topped in terms of comfort, quality and style points. You won’t want to take these off – trust me, folks. With all that being said, here’s to the weekend, an upcoming Style Pick of the Week and cold, fresh beer. Cheers!

The Friday Read: The Best Denim Overshirts, Outside Lands 2021 & The Best Outerknown Menswear

If a fall weekend is on the horizon — which it assuredly is — then there’s one thing you need to do. Well, at least one thing. First and foremost, check out some of the best sustainable menswear on the planet by way of Outerknown, the rugged-yet-versatile clothing brand founded by surfing legend Kelly Slater. Outerknown makes some of my favorite pieces in my fall menswear rotation, including the best-selling Outerknown Blanket Shirt in a wide array of colors. It gets even better beyond that: Outerknown is running the Outerknown Warehouse Sale right now, giving you up to 60 percent off past-season favorites. It’s a great way to get a standout deal on some of the best fall menswear and more. It’s the sort of sale I’ll be shopping, especially as I take it easy this weekend and watch some Michigan State football from Brooklyn.

I’ll be taking it easy this weekend namely because, well, I was more than busy last weekend, trekking out West covering the excellent Outside Lands Music Festival as one of the many hats I wear. It was my first trip to San Fran in seven years, as I noted in the last edition of the Friday Read and in the most recent entry in my music/menswear newsletter. You should head to Atwood Magazine to catch my full preview — and recap — but let me say that it was an absolutely stellar weekend to be in San Francisco, complete with sunny weather, excellent sets from luminaries like Vampire Weekend and Sharon Van Etten, and even some excellent local beer from Anchor Brewing. I can’t recommend the festival enough, in short. For now though, it’s time for me to power through some end-of-week writing for the Huckberry Journal (and more). As for yourself, here’s to starting your own weekend properly with some of my tips for the best fall men’s style gear on the market. Let’s get to it!

Courtesy of AskMen.
  • I mentioned above that we’d cover the best rugged fall menswear, and allow me to make another suggestion on that front. You should certainly head to AskMen to read my guide on the best denim overshirts for hard-wearing, casual-yet-functional layering this season — it’s that simple, folks.
  • Here’s hoping that you’ve been keeping up with the goings-on here on the blog, but if not, I’m going to point you back towards my Wednesday post examining one of the best sweaters for fall and winter. Of course, the sweater in question comes from Taylor Stitch, and it’s as cozy and reliable as you need it to be right now.
  • If you love travel, and if you’ve been loving a bit of travel — slowly but surely, the right way — here’s one for you. I had the chance in September to head to Detroit to A) See a rock show by Julien Baker whilst visiting old college friends and B) Check out the absolutely wonderful Shinola Hotel in the process. The hotel is elegant, refined, perfectly crafted and quite the ideal encapsulation of the Shinola lifestyle overall. On that note, here’s the full recap of my experience at Maxim — get yourself to Shinola and Detroit when you get the chance — I endorse it wholeheartedly!

I’ll leave you with one last style tip to head into the weekend. If it’s a laidback, casual weekend pullover you need — especially one on sale for under $100 — then Wellen is the way to go. This week’s Tuesday Steal covers the best fall weekend pullover on sale right now. Cheers to some fall weather and fall fun — and fall menswear, of course! Thanks for reading, my friends.

The Friday Read: A Dispatch from the Outside Lands 2021 Festival

Outside Lands to Require Proof of Vaccine or Negative COVID Test at 2021 Festival - mxdwn Music

My friends, we’re coming to you live from San Francisco with a shorter-than-usual dispatch for your regular Friday Read installment, where I normally get into things like the best men’s style essentials to carry you through your weekend. But if you follow me on Instagram or subscribe to my twice-weekly music and menswear newsletter, you might know that I’m doing things a bit differently today. You might also know that I wear a heck of a lot of hats, including writing about rugged menswear, covering whiskey, craft beer and of course, music. Which brings me to my San Francisco trip, already off to a fine start. I’m here writing about the always-excellent Outside Lands Festival, for Atwood Magazine, a celebration of great music (with a hearty helping of regional beer and cuisine) at Golden Gate Park.

It’s my first time to San Francisco in seven years, if you can believe it, and the festival is hotly anticipated for a number of reasons. I can’t wait to see lifetime heroes The Strokes play tonight, and I also expect stellar sets from indie stars like Sharon Van Etten. It’s going to be an action-packed weekend, so again, I’d call out that you should follow me on Instagram to get the full lay of the land (you should also check back here to read tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week in the meantime). As for me, I’ve got some photos to take and some more writing to do, but this time, on music and not menswear. Thanks for reading, thanks for your support, and if you’ve got any San Francisco recommendations (like the incredible Anchor Brewing, which I visited yesterday!), be sure to drop me a line in the comments. Cheers and let’s rock!

The Friday Read: The Best Adventure Sunglasses, The Best High-Top Sneakers & New Aether Apparel Gear

Score 25% Off Designer Outerwear From Aether Apparel

Who’s ready to gear up for yet another fall weekend? I’ve got just the brand to help you do that, at least in my estimation. Whether your fall adventures involve a day hike, brunch, college football or yard work (I know, I know), the new Aether Apparel Fall Collection is packed with rugged gear for excursions near and far. These are durable, dependable pieces made with technical fabrics and plenty of style points, always worth adding to your own fall style rotation (call ’em the best fall style essentials if you must). It’s similar to the gear I’ll be wearing as I scout out Brooklyn beers, enjoy some college football and pack for a very exciting getaway early next week (be sure to follow me on Instagram for full details).

Yes indeed, I’ll be hitting the road to Kentucky next week for two days of special events with Horse Soldier Bourbon, as the veteran-founded brand breaks new ground on a distillery and offers up a tour of its current operations. It’s a trip perfectly timed with fall weather and fall whiskey, and I’m ever so grateful for the invite. Of course, I’ll be staying busy in the days before and after writing for sites like Fatherly and AskMen, so check out my bylines there, too. In the meantime, here are some top weekend gear picks from yours truly to keep the season rolling in fine fashion.

  • If you’ve been searching for some of the best adventure sunglasses, the type of sunglasses you can wear on the trail or on a run, and then to a brewery (to name but a few fall pursuits), then Nathan Sports has you covered. The Nathan Sunrise Sunglasses retail for just $50, blend stylish elements like a classic tortoise finish with polarized lenses, and look great for work or play. Don’t sleep on these durable outdoor sunglasses for the season ahead, my friends.
  • Speaking of my work at Fatherly, here’s a story I certainly feel is worth your hard-earned time and cash. The cult favorite basics brand Entireworld, known for its colorful sweats and T-shirts and founded by Scott Sternberg of Band Of Outsiders, is sadly going out of business. Fear not, because you can still score some stellar deals on the best basics, and I wrote all about the best on-sale clothing at Entireworld right now. Happy shopping, folks.
  • The headline says it all in today’s post, but right now truly is the season to step out in some transitional footwear, also known as the best high-top sneakers (in my opinion). Where can you find said sneakers? Why, via my latest roundup for The Manual. Time to step out in style, my friends.

I’ll let you cruise on into the weekend right now with those helpful style tips and shopping picks top of mind, but before I let you go, allow me to make one more recommendation: The best Chelsea boots from Nisolo are going to go a long way towards getting you around town in sustainable style. Read this blog post from yours truly for the full scoop. With all that being said: Enjoy the weekend and thanks for reading!

The Friday Read: The Myles Apparel Fall Forward Sale, the Best Fall Boots & Philadelphia

My friends, welcome to another Friday, the last proper work day of the week and of course, the first day of October. We’re well and truly into fall right now, especially with the hint of a fall chill in the air. That must mean one thing: It’s time to throw on one of the best pairs of fall travel pants to hit the road. Those pants in question could mean the extremely travel-friendly, stretchy and durable Myles Apparel Tour Pants, right? If you’re not familiar with the brand, they’re a great place to start — particularly because this weekend, the Myles Apparel Fall Forward Sale wraps up. I talked about one of the best menswear sales out there previously on the blog, so if you act quickly (ideally, today!), you’ll have time to get deals on the best fall travel gear ASAP.

Speaking of fall travel gear, I’ve had plenty of fall mini-road trips myself, namely of the concertgoing variety. I’ve talked briefly about some of these jaunts — to Pennsylvania to see The Killers and to Detroit to see indie rocker Julien Baker — in my twice-weekly music and menswear newsletter (music is my other great passion in life). Now, of course, I bought many of these tickets months ago and have since planned out my travels, but the schedule has been jam-packed in between writing for sites like AskMen and Maxim. What does it all mean? Well, of course it means that I’m hitting the road once more this weekend, trekking down to Philadelphia to see indie rockers Big Thief! I’ve previously seen the band in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and even got to cover their set at NYC’s Governors Ball Music Festival, but a proper headline show (dressed in indie rock style — subscribe to my newsletter for more!) is always the right way to go about it. If you’d like to keep up with my Philadelphia trip, give me a follow on Instagram. For now, here’s the rest of today’s weekend roundup. Happy shopping and stay stylish!

  • If you’ve not yet laced up a pair of the best fall boots, then now is the right time to get on that. As luck would have it, I wrote about the best men’s boots for fall just yesterday on the blog, so be sure to check out my deep dive into the FRYE William Lace-Up Boots right now. There’s still plenty of time to get into it, folks.
  • I mentioned above that I’d been keeping busy covering menswear for sites like AskMen, and I wasn’t joking. For the lauded men’s lifestyle site, I wrote all about the best waxed jackets for the season ahead. It’s worth your time to really layer up in style, folks.
  • Like I said, I’ve been plenty busy writing style dispatches for the busy fall season. With all that being said, here’s one additional gear dispatch you should dive into today. Head to the Huckberry Journal — the excellent blog of one of the best retailers for men — to find out all about the best men’s shirt jackets for prime seasonal layering. It doesn’t get any better than that, my friends. Better still, head to Huckberry to shop the best menswear for fall.

We’ll help you roll on into the weekend now with a few style tips and some shopping picks in mind — how’s that sound? Before I let you go, let me offer up one last fall style tip for men: A chambray shirt is the sort of rugged and go-anywhere essential you can style with a cardigan at the office or on its own over a henley through the weekend. And Todd Snyder’s chambray shirt is the perfect piece to head into the season in style, so do yourself a favor and click through to my blog post on the ideal fall shirt. Cheers once again, my friends! Enjoy the weekend.

The Friday Read: Governors Ball NYC, The Best Fall Beers & The Killers

Filson Field Flannel Shirt in Dark Moss - Thursday Boot Company

Who else out there is surprised by the fact that we already hit the first day of fall this week? To me, that means several things, like the prime opportunity to pop open one of the best fall beers (more on that in a second), to go along with the chance to layer up with one of the best men’s flannel shirts for the season, like the rugged and ready-for-anything Filson Field Flannel Shirt shown above. It’s not quite cold enough just yet in NYC for that shirt, but it’s never too early to start preparing for what lies ahead (I.E. Day hikes, beer garden brews and much more).

As to my own plans this weekend, there’s a little bit of everything going on, including some shopping for fall style essentials. And beyond that, well, like I said, there’s a bit of everything. It’s hard to believe, but it’s the long-awaited and incredibly exciting return of New York City’s best music festival, the much-hyped and much-loved Governors Ball! It’s being held this year for the first time at Citi Field, with a unique in-the-round stage set-up designed to utilize space and provide maximum sound quality. But it’s notable to me for another reason: It’ll be my first time attending and covering the festival with a press pass in hand! If you keep up with me on my music & menswear Twitter, you know that I contribute to sites like Merry-Go-Round Magazine and The Line of Best Fit, and I’ve also started contributing to excellent indie music site Atwood Magazine! It’s for Atwood that I’m attending the festival, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to safely attend this standout festival to cover bands like Future Islands, a personal favorite. In the meantime, I’ll be wrapping up some writing and planning for the season ahead. To plan out your fall shopping (and possibly provide some inspiration to visit your favorite beer garden??), here’s the rest of today’s Friday Read below. Cheers!

AleSmith Oktoberfest
  • Anyone else feeling thirsty? The time has never been better to stock your beer fridge with some of the best fall beers, which run the gamut from classic Oktoberfest styles to rich double IPAs and many more. To get you started, check out my guide to the best beers for fall at Maxim. Again, cheers!
  • I mentioned legendary heritage outfitter Filson at the start of today’s post, and if you ask me, there’s never a bad time to double-down and focus once more on an iconic brand for fall and beyond. Just yesterday in fact, I wrote all about one of the best fall jackets for men here on the blog. Check out that post, and then let me know in the comments below what you think of the tough-as-nails Filson 3-Layer Field Jacket. Happy shopping!
  • If the headline had you wondering when a certain band from Las Vegas might come up in today’s post, well, here we are. I had the really incredible and exceedingly rare opportunity to catch two shows in two nights by one of my all-time favorite bands, The Killers. I wrote in my twice-weekly newsletter about trekking down to Pennsylvania (first to Bethlehem, and then over to Philadelphia) to see this lifetime band play two shows prior to a headlining appearance at Firefly Festival in Delaware, and I’m so glad I took advantage of the chance to make my own schedule, hit the road and see them. Again, head to my music + menswear newsletter to get the full scoop.

Those three quick hits above should carry you into the weekend quite nicely, right? That’s my hope at least, from the music of The Killers to the chance to stock your beer fridge with some excellent seasonal brews. Be sure to follow along with me on Instagram to catch all of the action at Governors Ball, but before you do that, I’ll leave you with one last shopping and style pick. A retro cardigan, like this Bonobos cardigan that I wrote about on the blog earlier this week, is truly unstoppable for autumn layering. One final time, enjoy the weekend and let’s keep it rolling!

The Friday Read: The Myles Apparel Fall Sale, New Beckett Simonon Boots & The Best Automatic Watches

My friends, join me in another weekly recap via my Friday Read, and contemplate those rugged leather boots shown above as we get ready to kick off another weekend. Those are the Beckett Simonon Lopez Boots, some of the best boots for fall to get your hands on (and your feet into) right now. If you’ve been waiting to upgrade your footwear rotation for the season ahead, allow me to wholeheartedly endorse some of the best men’s boots for pleasantly cool days and nights. The time is ripe, after all. And the time is ripe to really start dressin’ again, as the parlance goes. Even this week, I’ve had the chance to (safely) attend two concerts in NYC — the excellent Julien Baker and the seriously cool indie rock band Wild Pink — and I’ve even broken out some denim from Todd Snyder. Things are happening slowly but surely, so stay safe and stylish.

How else to stay stylish? With a few of my menswear reads and recommendations for your weekend. I’ve had a busy week wrapping up NYFW and working on my next AskMen story (specifically about fashion week), but if it’s new gear you want right away, I think you’ll find a few of these picks below are to your liking. I’ll be doing some digital shopping myself this weekend, and also visiting the famed NYC establishment McSorley’s for some Saturday beers. It goes without saying that I’ll be working on blog content, too. Keep it tuned right here in the meantime for a full weekend of fall fashion, and let’s get ready to step into the next season with some Beckett Simonon boots. You know the drill, folks. Cheers!

  • If you’re seeking some of the best deals on go-anywhere menswear, then it’s the Myles Apparel Fall Forward Sale you should be shopping. You’ll find versatile style picks like the durable Myles Apparel Tour Pants, which blend performance fabric and a clean cut, like your favorite chinos. Here’s the scoop: Head to the End of Season Sale page to get 30 percent off full price styles listed, and then up to 60 percent off already discounted items. It’s a deal not to be missed, so hop on it now. Oh, and the even better news? The Myles Apparel Fall Forward Sale runs through the end of the month! Not bad at all, ehh?
  • Let’s talk another shopping recommendation, shall we? To me, a wristwatch is one of the most valuable accessories you can add to your everyday carry, offering up a sense of purpose and style, as well as complementary appeal alongside outfits both dressy and casual. Luckily, there are watches for every budget and taste out there, too. With that being said, here’s where my latest guide for The Manual comes into play: Head over there to read my picks for the best automatic watches. Get to it!
  • I’ll leave you with one last shopping pick before we roll into the weekend. The power of a rugged, casual flannel shirt can’t be overlooked for fall – as in, the type of flannel shirt you can wear to the office or at home in equal measure. Here’s where the Bespoke Post Layers Box comes into play: It’s got both an essential fall flannel shirt and a toasty hat to keep you cozy all season long. Check it all out via yesterday’s blog post. Happy shopping!

Satchel and Page

That’ll bring things to an end for today’s edition of the Friday Read. As always, we’ll get your weekend rolling in earnest with tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week. If you missed last weekend’s style pick of choice, head over here to read about the best fall weekend pants: Those would be the seriously cool and comfortable Taylor Stitch Apres Pants. They won’t let you down, not in the slightest. Enjoy your Friday and we’ll see you back here this weekend!

The Friday Read: Buck Mason Sweaters, New York Fashion Week & New Laphroaig Whisky

Zoomed product image

Folks, welcome once more to The Friday Read, where I give you the proper tools to head into your weekend in style. Considering that we’re rolling into early fall, at least on the calendar, I’d recommend you do yourself a favor in this shortened version of my weekly recap and pick up one of the best men’s sweaters from Buck Mason. Kind of like the vintage Buck Mason sweater seen above, yes? I’ll be adding that one to my wish list as we roll into the fall season in earnest.

On another note, it was a short but very busy week in New York City, one that rolls on right now: It’s New York Fashion Week once again. After a year-plus of virtual shows, it’s been thrilling and fun to safely get back out there and see everything from emerging designers at New York Men’s Day to the inspiring gala put on by Runway of Dreams last night. As it were, I have plans to attend more shows yet today, so stay tuned to my Instagram for more NYFW highlights. In the meantime, here are a few brief highlights from this week in the world of menswear and writing by yours truly. Cheers!

Laphroaig Cairdeas 2021 Pedro Ximenez 3
  • The headline mentions Laphroaig whisky above, so that’s where this entry comes into play. More to the point: I had the chance to review the latest Laphroaig whisky launch following a summer road trip upstate to experience outstanding Scotch and outstanding community, and you’d do well to add some to your bar cart via my latest dispatch for Maxim.
  • Let’s keep it a bit more casual in today’s shortened NYFW dispatch. Head on over to The Manual to get my guide to the best, coziest and most stylish sweat shorts to wear to work from home and lounge around in comfort this weekend. It’s really that simple!
  • Here’s one more recommendation before I let you go for the weekend: The latest and greatest from Faherty Brand is absolutely worth your time. It’s a rugged shirt jacket that’s perfect for layering, so be sure to check out my guide on the best shirt jacket of the moment, and be sure to shop accordingly.

Folks, that’ll do it for today’s Friday Read in the midst of a jam-packed New York Fashion Week. Stay safe, stay stylish and thanks for reading!
