The Sunday Sale: This Go-Anywhere Marine Layer Buttondown Is Now More than 30 Percent Off

Best buttondown shirts for men.

In my experience, building out a menswear wardrobe is a process that takes time, patience and a sense of knowing what works for you. That’s why I lean on staples like the best Oxford shirts, classic blue jeans, canvas sneakers and rugged chukka boots… you get the picture. And if ever the chance arises to save big while filling out your rotation of stylish menswear essentials, that’s even better.

That brings us to today’s weekend closeout, a stylish set of savings on an even more stylish buttondown shirt from the good folks at Huckberry and Marine Layer.

For a limited time only, you can score a true go-anywhere buttondown shirt — a casually cool shirt fit for a laidback day at the office or a backyard BBQ, no less — at a steal of a deal via the Huckberry Sale section.

Best buttondown shirts for men.

Yes, my friends: The Marine Layer Classic Stretch Selvage Shirt is now more than 30 percent off, with the crisp design and classic good looks to stand in for your favorite Oxford shirt in a way that’s just a bit more rugged and visually appealing.

Slub yarns give the shirt a broken-in look and feel, while the texture itself is just a bit more casual than one of the best Oxford shirts (and yes, Huckberry stocks those sorts of shirts, too). And unlike a classic Oxford shirt, this shirt features a spread collar, so it’s a touch more easygoing while still flattering your face. And when marked down to below $100, it’s a nice addition to your shirting rotation, one that you needn’t think too hard about wearing.

Team it with your favorite light wash jeans, wear it with a modern pair of the Flint and Tinder 365 Shorts and grab your go-to canvas sneakers — this shirt can do just about anything you ask of it, all the while saving you some dough in the process. That sounds like a shirt worth buying, in my experience. Have at it, my friends, and thanks for reading!

Style Pick of the Week: Mack Weldon Swim Trunks – An Expertly Crafted Pair for Your Next Getaway

Unfortunately, we’re not quite out of the woods yet as far as the high heat of summer is concerned, and perhaps that means it’s time to evaluate the status of your swimwear. A refresh is never a bad thing to consider, especially if you’ve been hanging onto an older pair of swim trunks that’s been put through the ringer these past few weeks and months.

That’s why I trust Mack Weldon to deliver some of the best of the best when it comes to men’s accessories (and more, of course).

In my experience, the best men’s swim trunks can lend themselves quite handily to a stylish swim, as well as a more comfortable, dare I say better, dip in the pool or ocean. I’m already a major fan of Mack Weldon men’s shirts for their comfort, durability and breathability (plus a dialed-in, yet not overly tight, fit). And luckily for all of us, Mack Weldon swim trunks are a supremely safe, solid bet in terms of performance and beach-ready good looks.

I’ve tried out Mack Weldon swim trunks over the years, and have been impressed by the lightweight, supple yet strong fabric (a four-way stretch blend that’s proprietary to Mack Weldon). The fabric on these Mack Weldon swim trunks dries quickly and doesn’t weigh you down, while the micro-mesh liner is comfortable and supportive, rather than cumbersome.

I’ve also found that these Mack Weldon swim trunks get the fit just right — the 6″ inseam is a touch sporty, with a fit that hugs my legs without proving too tight or constricting. One of my favorite features about Mack Weldon swim trunks, though? The seam-sealed side and back zipper pockets, ideal for holding small everyday carry essentials on the go.

For good measure, my new favorite pair of Mack Weldon swim trunks come in a vibrant range of colors and styles, all the better to suit every sense of taste. And right now, these performance-ready swim trunks are even marked down to just about $61 — that deal is an excellent one given their quality and value. In my opinion, a set of Mack Weldon swim trunks belong in your getaway bag the next time you pack up to catch some surf, sand and sun.

The Friday Read: A Summer Weekend in Nashville at The Joseph Hotel

Folks, welcome to another Friday on The Style Guide, and another dispatch from the road as part of my many freelance writing pursuits. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see that I cover much more than the best menswear, including fine luxury spirits, travel, watches and audio gear. And in the case of my latest freelance jaunt (past trips this year have included stints in Ireland and Germany!), worlds are colliding, so to speak.

I’m currently on the road in rollicking Nashville, which just so happens to be home to a heck of a lot more than just honky-tonks and rock venues (although it’s a mecca for those, too). I’m here on behalf of The Joseph Hotel, a luxe, contemporary art-filled space known for its immaculate Four Walls craft cocktail bar.

The luxurious bar is the site of the action this weekend, as it’s playing host to a momentous mixology pop-up. Four Walls is turning into a collaborative flagship for London’s famed Lyaness for a limited time, and the cocktails on offer should be very opulent indeed.

Four Walls Bar at The Joseph.

As if it wasn’t exciting enough to sample some of the world’s most carefully crafted libations, each cocktail draws on a distinctly Nashville source of inspiration: The Frist Art Museum’s current gallery exhibition, Lee Alexander McQueen & Ann Ray: Rendez-Vous.

Myself and my fellow travel and spirits journalists will taste our way through the Four Walls menu, experience the Frist Art Museum gallery in all its engaging creativity, and of course, take in other iconic Nashville destinations, like the Gibson Garage.

It’s the Music City meeting mixology meeting modern art, and I positively can’t wait for another round. I’ve traveled to the Music City in the past and also loved checking out menswear hot spots like denim and Americana atelier Imogene + Willie, always a personal favorite brand when it comes to the best men’s jeans and more.

There’s no shortage of exciting sights, sounds and sips in Nashville any way you slice it, especially at a seriously cool hotel like The Joseph. To keep up with all the action this weekend, head to my Instagram, and in the meantime, you can expect two stylish summer dispatches hitting the blog this weekend, including tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week. As always, thanks for reading, thanks for following along and THANK YOU for supporting my work! Cheers!

The Thursday Buy: This Wellen Short-Sleeve Shirt is the Perfect Way to Beat the Heat in Style

Best short-sleeve buttondown shirt for men.

At this point in the summer, even the best rotation of warm-weather style essentials might feel a little tired or stale. And yet, Huckberry begs you to consider the opposite: What if there were actually more ways than ever to beat the heat in style, beyond just resorting to a simple lightweight T-shirt?

And the best way, in my experience, to meet that mission just might be opting for a stylish short-sleeve shirt, the kind we’ve talked about frequently here in the past few weeks. And if that shirt happens to hail from the Wellen collection of sustainable menswear, as today’s pick does, that’s all the better.

We previously talked about a Wellen lightweight performance shirt here on the blog, and the latest and greatest from Huckberry‘s eco-conscious, stylish in-house line doubles down on that same focus quite nicely.

Wellen menswear review.

The Wellen Easy Slub Short-Sleeve Shirt hits all the right marks as far as the best men’s short-sleeve shirts are concerned, at least in my experience with Huckberry. I’ve found the fact that Wellen uses organic cotton to be a nice touch in terms of comfort and sustainability, as happens to be the case with the Wellen Easy Slub Short-Sleeve Shirt.

This handsome men’s buttondown shirt comes in a trio of colors elevated by an engaging dot print, and the shirt itself is space-dyed for further softness — an even more breezy touch in the summer heat.

The Wellen Easy Slub Short-Sleeve Shirt (which could just be your new favorite short-sleeve shirt) comes with crisp details that make it easy to dress up ever so slightly — say, with a pair of Huckberry’s Flint and Tinder 365 Pants — like a non-buttondown collar. A button chest pocket adds a touch of visual appeal while also acting as a handy storage space for your favorite sunglasses as the sun sets on a summer BBQ.

And your color choices for the Wellen Easy Slub Short-Sleeve Shirt are versatile and eye-catching — a nice summer refresh at a time when it’s simply too dang hot out. To shake up your summer style rotation, seek out one of the best men’s short-sleeve shirts — one from Huckberry and Wellen, of course. Cheers to summer and seasonal style, my friends.

See Now, Buy Now: The Beckett Simonon Reid Sneakers are a Crisp, Classic Footwear Move for Summer (and Beyond)

At a certain point in the summer — or any time of year that calls for sliding into a pair of the best men’s sneakers — it’s great to have options. And as far as options are concerned, a pair of sleek, dressy-yet-versatile white leather sneakers are tough to beat, like the option pictured above from Beckett Simonon. Sure, they’re less casual and less durable than your trusty canvas sneakers, but bear with me.

When crafted the right way (and cared for properly), sneakers like the Beckett Simonon Reid Sneakers can add a jolt of refreshing style to carry you through the dog days of summer.

These made-to-order sneakers hail from the same brand making some of the best men’s boots, a brand that does it by cutting out the middleman and passing those savings directly onto consumers (stylish consumers like yourself, of course).

Beckett Simonon Reid Sneakers review.

I’ve found Beckett Simonon men’s boots to be the right mix of durable, ever-so-slightly rugged and refined — these sneakers are more practical for summer however, and just as well-made. These handcrafted men’s sneakers boast handsome, supple full-grain leather, along with what the brand calls a refined toe box and shape for crisp, clean style.

Beckett Simonon men's sneakers review.

The Beckett Simonon Reid Sneakers, in my experience, are also ultra-comfortable rather than cumbersome, and that’s thanks to a leather-lined insole and a padded heel collar. Helpfully, the Beckett Simonon Reid Sneakers also feature a taller instep for even greater comfort, and that holds true no matter the color option you select.

Take your pick from timeless black-and-white combos or else up the ante with a sporty mix of navy and white leather atop a gum rubber sole. Given the mix of comfort, value and classically cool good looks, I’ve found they’re might not be a better footwear value on the market at present than the Beckett Simonon Reid Sneakers — try a pair on for size and see for yourself.

The Tuesday Steal: Save 30 Percent on Stylish Shoes and Sneakers from Everlane Right Now

If the season is summer — which it very much remains, judging by the thermostat and the weather — then a pair of the best men’s sneakers remains an absolute must, and that’s where today’s deal of choice enters the fray. Make some space in your rotation of the best sneakers for men, with a prime pick (or two, or three) up for grabs via the Everlane Summer Sale.

And since there’s no time quite like the present to refresh your wardrobe with a pair of multi-season sneakers, it’s best to strike while the iron is hot, as I always say.

Use the code EVER30 to take 30 percent off shoes and accessories at Everlane, the ultra-sustainable, transparent retailer best known for using organic materials and minimal designs, all crafted at responsible manufacturing partners.

Everlane men's sneakers review.

In my personal experience, Everlane sneakers are durable yet lightweight, minimal yet distinctive enough to add some style to any look, and always fairly priced. That holds even more true when you shop one of the best deals on men’s sneakers at the moment. Of course, I personally love Everlane Oxford shirts and super-soft T-shirts, and both of those stylish picks would work quite nicely with Everlane men’s sneakers.

Options include the brand’s crisply designed, classic Court Sneakers as well as the Everlane Tread-Bare Sneaker, a light-as-air set of kicks modeled after iconic sporting trainers. Don’t forget that the Everlane Summer Sale includes accessories as well, including the company’s line of stylish bags — for a standout deal on stylish gear from the ground up, you know where to go this week.

See Now, Buy Now: These Rugged Lems Shoes Waterproof Boots from Huckberry Belong On Your Feet

The high heat of summer might seem an unusual time to talk about the best boots for men, let alone some of the best Chelsea boots for men, but there’s a time and a place for everything when the name of the game is rugged, essential gear for outdoor adventures.

Of course, that’s where my friends Huckberry enter your wardrobe — if you weren’t well-stocked with the best adventure gear from the famed retailer already. They’ve got an eye for picking men’s boots and more that just works, from the trail to the town and back again. Of course, the Lems Shoes Waterproof Chelsea Boots fit the bill quite handsomely (and stylishly) in that regard.

These durable, stylish adventure boots are packed with the sort of features you expect from a brand already known for making some of the best trail sneakers and the best lace-up boots (as you very well might have read about here on the blog).

Best waterproof Chelsea boots for men.

There’s much to love when it comes to the Lems Shoes Waterproof Chelsea Boots, starting with the impeccable USA-made construction and the use of hard-wearing, waterproof leather. They’re also lined in moisture-wicking polyester for all-day comfort and performance, while the tough rubber outsole delivers grip and traction on all sorts of terrain.

It doesn’t hurt that the Lems Shoes Waterproof Chelsea Boots feature a zero-drop heel for proper alignment, not to mention a flexible sole that rolls up and packs up with ease. In my experience, Lems shoes are reliable, stylish, supremely comfortable and ready for just about anything — including travel to your final destination far afield.

Back in town, you can rock the Lems Shoes Waterproof Chelsea Boots with your favorite blue jeans and a stylish short-sleeve henley practically any day of the week. That’s versatility, performance and an adventure-ready design I appreciate, and I think you’ll feel the same way — time to step into your new favorite leather boots, my friends.

Style Pick of the Week: Randolph Sportsman Vintage American Sunglasses – A Classic Menswear Accessory

If you, like me, are constantly scouring the menswear market for the ultimate in classic men’s style essentials, there are a few that are nearly indispensable to a guy’s summer wardrobe. There’s the T-shirt, the blue jean, the timeless canvas sneaker (especially in the summer months), and in the world of menswear accessories, there are the always-classic aviator sunglasses you’ve been coveting (or perhaps wearing for years).

There’s a new (old) master of the style on the market, one that’s more than worthy of your consideration: Randolph Engineering blends throwback craftsmanship with styles that toe the line between classic and modern, best seen in handsome picks like the Randolph Sportsman Vintage American Sunglasses.

The style builds off the brand’s penchant for making some of the very best USA-made sunglasses, a noble pursuit that stretches back five decades for the Massachusetts company. They’re also based on the brand’s Concorde style, a classic aviator style that’s now been amped up with a brow bar (matched by skull temple tips).

The Randolph Sportsman Vintage American Sunglasses are bold and yet versatile, a perfect match for everything from a summer T-shirt and classic blue jeans to chino shorts and a henley. Oh, and yes, in my opinion, the Randolph Sportsman Vintage American Sunglasses can even pair up handsomely with your favorite summer suit.

These elegant, classically cool shades are also plenty functional, especially the polarized and anti-reflective lenses. And with 200-plus steps of careful craftsmanship, the Randolph Sportsman Vintage American Sunglasses are worth the higher price tag.

In fact, I’d go so far as to say these stylish vintage men’s sunglasses are almost heirloom-worthy, and a surefire upgrade over other shades on a lower budget. If you’re ready to make the leap and upgrade your wardrobe with the ultimate in classic looks, embrace the potential of the Randolph Sportsman Vintage American Sunglasses.

The Friday Read: Rugged Summer Gear from Filson, Buck Mason x J. Press & A Paris Olympics Watch

Filson summer menswear review.

Just as we roll into another July weekend, perhaps you’re feeling as if your summer menswear and gear could use a bit of a refresh, or just a few more selections to help you get over the hemp. This Friday, and many other days here on the blog, I recommend diving into Filson menswear, which runs the gamut — from the road to the river and back. In my personal experience, they’re a brand that always delivers, be it rugged good looks, standout performance in any season, or a mix of the two.

Be it quick-drying swim trunks, carefully crafted T-shirts, some of the best lightweight buttondown shirts or the very best waxed canvas bags on the market, Filson is a nearly indispensable part of my summer wardrobe — I’d imagine you feel the same way.

If not, consider this a friendly summer weekend reminder, especially as things continue to heat up out there. And for more Filson reviews on this blog, click that link. Now, onward to business — what’s still left on your summer reading and shopping list?

I’ve recently been sent an exciting read I’m looking forward to checking out, the classic tome “A Really Big Lunch,” by legendary Michigan writer Jim Harrison. In fact, my newfound writer pal and fellow Michigander Matt Medendorp sent this volume my way.

It’s an iconic book that’s long been on my list, and t should prove an apt read to while away hot summer days in Brooklyn (cold beer not far out of reach, of course). Have you had the chance to check out that title? I’ll deliver my own review once I’ve pored through its pages!

For a few more summer recommendations to guide your own weekend, keep on scrolling through below, my friends. Cheers!

  • Out of all of my favorite menswear brands, Buck Mason delivers some of the most consistent surprises, or pleasant surprises rather, while staying in its lane as a purveyor of modern-meets-classic, Americana style. What do I mean by this? Well, expertly crafted Oxford shirts, the best blue jeans and perfectly cut T-shirts do the trick. And you can find all of this close at hand in the new Buck Mason x J. Press menswear collection, a retro-meets-21st-century offering showcasing what both brands do best. Read about it more via my latest for Maxim.com.
  • Here’s something a tad more illustrious and luxurious than just one of the best Oxford shirts, and it’s got some flair going for it ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, too. Omega, the official watch brand of James Bond and the Official Timekeeper of the Olympics (since 1932, no less!) just debuted a stunning Paris 2024 special-edition watch, and it’s a stunner made from Bronze Gold alloy. Read all about it via another feature from yours truly at Maxim.com.
  • Let’s go from talking about classic menswear and luxury watches to some “news you can use” right away, so to speak, via the good folks at Huckberry. The lineup of Wellen menswear at Huckberry already focuses on sustainability and style, and it gets a revamp here with a new lineup of Wellen performance gear you can wear, well, just about anywhere. And accordingly, I wrote about possibly your new favorite daily T-shirt over on the blog earlier this week — give it a look, my friends.

That’ll wrap up today’s Friday Read quite nicely indeed, if I do say so myself. To follow along with my weekend adventures in Brooklyn, be sure to give me a follow on Instagram. And to keep up with more stylish menswear for summer, tune in tomorrow and Sunday for a duo of featured weekend men’s style picks. Cheers and thanks, as always, for reading!
