The Friday Read: The AC/DC PWR UP Tour, the Best Spring Weekend Menswear & Tampa Bay Craft Beer

AC/DC PWR UP Tour.

It’s not every day that a blog post via my Brooklyn style blog leads off with a reference to AC/DC — nor an AC/DC show on the horizon, right?? The Aussie rockers were my first favorite band years ago growing up in Michigan — where I’ve spent much of the past week reconnecting with family and friends (and attending my high school class reunion!). Yes, if you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ll have seen all of that fun — and Michigan craft beer — and more.

I’ve come a long way since those days ridin’ down the highway back in Michigan jamming out to those legendary rockers, but my latest excursion south to Florida brings the promise of another show by an iconic band, this time in Tampa Bay.

If you’ve followed along with the blog over the years, especially as I’ve talked about live music adventures in Brooklyn and even how to dress for a rock concert, plus how to dress in rock n’roll style, my tastes have certainly changed, but the band still holds a very, very special place in my heart. In fact, this will remarkably be my fourth time (dating back to 2008!) seeing Acca Dacca. How about that!?

And that all means that, thanks to a timely Christmas gift from my mom… my dad and I get to see these giants of rock n’roll this very weekend in Tampa Bay! It’s a departure from the norm (although “If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)” still holds a prime placement on my Spotify!), but so great and a positively exciting return to my roots, in a way, all the same.

Again, long before I started this Brooklyn style blog and later had the chance to travel to the French Riviera, cover the finest spirits in the world and write all about my favorite menswear, well, there was AC/DC.

And as a wise author once wrote in Esquire years ago, a band like AC/DC will never die — the world will always need a band like AC/DC. Lofty praise considering most of my coverage skews towards the best new gear and watches, yes? But again, perspective is important, as is the chance to just plain old rock out.

If you happen to have any recommendations for Tampa — perhaps some of the best Tampa Bay craft beer via Cigar City? — then those selections truly are welcomed (and you can let me know via Instagram!).

As for my wardrobe in the Florida heat, I look forward to wearing a new duo of menswear from Taylor Stitch (canvas fatigue-inspired shorts and a simple black T-shirt from Taylor Stitch, namely). Just like the straightforward, high-voltage rock music of AC/DC, sometimes, keeping things simple is best — and pays the most dividends in terms of consistency over time, ehh?

For now, keep your eyes peeled here for a duo of weekend style blog posts as I boogie my way across Florida and make my way back home early next week to Brooklyn — there’s nothing like a return to form via an iconic rock band though, is there?

I look forward to getting down to some good old-fashioned rock n’roll this weekend, just like the old days — thanks for reading, thank you for following along, and remember: Rock n’roll ain’t noise pollution, folks. Cheers!

The Friday Read: New Spring Menswear & the Trip of a Lifetime with the Huckberry Explorer’s Grant

If ever there were a brand to puts its money where its mouth is, so to speak, at least in terms of delivering the best gear for adventures far afield, then it very well might be Huckberry. The Americana and adventure retailer is a fitting choice to kick off today’s Friday Read and to kick off your search for the best new spring menswear out there.

And on the heels of an adventure of my own last week — an opportunity to review a luxury hotel in Saint Tropez — I simply can’t wait to get back out there on the road again. There’s no time like the present to set your sights on the horizon either, as the triumphant return of Huckberry Explorer’s Grants delivers an absolutely prime chance to go far afield and carve out epic new memories.

The insanely cool opportunity hasn’t been seen in some time (I previously wrote about Huckberry Explorer’s Grant IV way back in 2016), but it’s now back and absolutely better than ever. The 2025 edition of the Huckberry Explorer’s Grant boasts a value up to a very cool $50,000, including four nights at a 5-star adventure lodge, first-class flights for you and an adventure companion to get there, and a whopping $20K in Huckberry credit to outfit yourself with the best new spring menswear and gear.

Not a bad deal at all, right? Oh, and don’t forget that the Huckberry Explorer’s Grant comes with credit for a rental car to get you where you’re going (and to get you far off the grid) with utility in mind. It’s an astounding opportunity that showcases what Huckberry is best at: Durable, rugged, hard-wearing gear made for going off-trail and around the globe (and that’s an understatement in this case).

Adventure options aplenty are abundant in the travel package, from southern Utah on up to Maine or out to Big Sur — to say the Huckberry Explorer’s Grant is rather epic is, again, an understatement. How to enter the adventure-focused Huckberry Explorer’s Grant contest (now until March 31st)? Sign up at Huckberry with your E-mail, then look out for up to 31 more ways to boost your number of entries.

The Huckberry Explorer’s Grant doesn’t come around very often, so now that it’s back in full force (thanks to Toyota), I’d say the chance of a lifetime is yours for the taking. Good luck entering the Huckberry Explorer’s Grant — take a chance while you’ve still got the choice, and we’ll See Out There, thanks to Huckberry, of course.

The Friday Read: New Rum from Andres Brugal, New Bluetooth Headphones & The Top Menswear Color Trends of 2025

As you know if you keep up with this blog on the regular or follow me on Instagram, I wear a lot of hats in this freelance life, including covering a range of topics that fall under the “men’s lifestyle” umbrella, from flannel shirts to sturdy pocket knives to the best leather boots and yes, luxury spirits.

This week covered off on nearly every single one of those bases in my many writing (and extracurricular) pursuits — take, for instance, the ultra-luxurious Andrés Brugal Edition 02 rum as shown above.

I was fortunate enough to get an exclusive first look at the rum for Maxim, and also fortunate enough to attend a launch event celebrating the very rare liquid itself. But spirits weren’t my only focus this week: A new luxury Audemars Piguet watch (just a bit out of my price range) debuted in a vivid shade of green, while my focus elsewhere shifted to some of the best new spring menswear of 2025.

As you know if you read this blog, a wardrobe refresh is in order with the changing of the seasons, from the best new Taylor Stitch sweater to buy now, right on through to a durable and dependable Buck Mason x Lee trucker jacket.

So, we’ve got fresh updates to classics — in the spirits, watch and menswear worlds, of course — and plenty to look forward to on an early spring weekend in Brooklyn for yours truly. Here are a few more choice reads and style selections to start your weekend right way, my friends.

  • Speaking of fresh spring style finds to power a new season, how’s this for an introduction to some “freshness” in your wardrobe? For my friends at Cool Material — where I’ll be writing semi-regularly these days! — I covered the top menswear color trends of 2025 and how to wear ’em. I also spotlighted some key selections from top style brands, ones you know, love and have seen on this blog. To start a new season off right, give these picks a look at Cool Material, my friends.
  • The theme of today’s Friday Read seems to be wearing many hats, or testing out plenty of categories in that elusive and ultimately fun “men’s lifestyle” space. And as you know if you follow me on Instagram, I’m serious about my music and about my audio equipment to guide the process. That’s why I jumped at the chance to test out the new H20 Audio RIPT LITE Headphones. They’re compact, they’re built for performance — mainly zipping around Brooklyn on foot, on my end — and they’re also ideal for athletes who value a secure pair of headphones for a variety of pursuits. They’re also a better deal than Apple AirPods, for instance, and I’ve found that they stay put and boast long battery life. If you’re in the market for some new headphones, you might want to snag a pair of the H20 Audio RIPT LITE Headphones.
  • Let’s send you off into the weekend the right way — with one more stylish shopping selection, of course. That’d be my pick for a discounted men’s blazer, the Wills Garment-Dyed Blazer from my good friends at Huckberry. I covered it here on the blog earlier this week, and it’s up for grabs in a versatile Navy color for weeks on end of seasonal style enjoyment. Happy shopping, my friends.

That’ll wrap up this guide to new spring style trends and gear quite nicely, I’d say. What’s on your seasonal wish list? If you have plans to hit the road or the trail, might I suggest checking out a selection or two from the performance-driven gear rotation via Proof and Huckberry?

The Proof 72-Hour Merino T-Shirt, with moisture-wicking, anti-microbial properties and plenty of durability, is a personal favorite. And with that: Let’s gear up, get out there and make the most of this spring weekend! Cheers to style, spring sips and more, my friends.

The Friday Read: The Best Spring Rain Jackets, The Best Socks for Your Favorite Boots and New Spring Menswear at Huckberry

If you ask me, things are really looking up in terms of spring menswear, plentiful spring style points and new essentials aplenty for your wardrobe. Just take the Huckberry Spring Preview for instance, especially as we roll into another lovely spring weekend.

Huckberry spring menswear 2024.

You’ll find that your favorite retailer stocks a bit of everything to get you from point A to point B, be it lightweight spring sweaters, stylish and breezy buttondown shirting, durable-yet-stretchy chinos and denim and of course, an array of rugged, handsome leather boots.

The shot above is but, well, a preview of all of that, with much more to come. Yes indeed, if I were you, I’d dive into the Huckberry Spring Preview ASAP to refresh my wardrobe for the season ahead.

That spring wardrobe refresh is certainly on my mind, but not before yet another getaway for the season from New York City. For as much as I love the Big Apple, I look forward to quality family time down in Florida — and in this case, it’s bookended by a spring Caribbean getaway (starting today!) to the lush, tranquil confines of Turks and Caicos!

You can follow along with all the fun on my Instagram, but it’s proven as great a place as any to go for a family getaway these past few years. The occasion? This time, my dad’s birthday — again, keep up with all the fun (and my spring break style tips!) over on Instagram. For now, here are a few additional spring style reads to get your weekend rolling the right way.

  • I’m all about being prepared for whatever spring throws your way, especially when it comes to blustery, breezy and rainy weather. The right tools for the job tend to start coming in handy as soon as you come out the door, and that’s no more true than with one of the best spring rain jackets (like the picks above from AskMen). And with all that being said, you should certainly head over to that esteemed site to check out my seasonal picks. Happy shopping and layering, folks.
  • We talked above about the essential nature of rugged, versatile gear found within the Huckberry Spring Preview, so let’s double down: The tough waxed jacket shown above hails from Flint and Tinder, and it’s among my most essential style picks this week (and for this season in general). So, consider this my wholehearted endorsement to shop the Flint and Tinder American-Made Waxed Mill Jacket for prime seasonal layering (and read this blog post for more insight). Cheers, my friends.
  • Here’s one more style pick for your weekend (before tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week feature, as regularly scheduled for Saturday, that is). The most durable, hard-wearing spring boots in your rotation — for spring day hikes, weekends away and beyond — deserve the best boot socks, right? The right pair of socks make all the difference, delivering a secure fit, comfort and even warmth on especially breezy spring days, and you can check out my selections for the best boot socks for men over at, well, AskMen.

That’ll wrap up today’s (moderately) deep dive in the world of menswear, with a special focus on the most useful spring style essentials for the days and weeks ahead. Have any brands you’d like to see on the blog? Be sure to let me know in the comments below. Cheers and here’s to a stylish spring weekend!

Style Pick of the Week: Filson Field Jac-Shirt – One of the Best Spring Shirt Jackets

Filson shirt jacket for men.

The right blend of form and function is crucial to winning the day in matters of spring style — you know this well if you read the blog on the regular, of course. And as we roll into the breezy, blustery, balmy days of spring, there’s perhaps no brand better equipped to outfit you with spring style essentials than Filson.

The legendary Pacific Northwest heritage outfitter makes some of the best waxed jackets on the market, and they also have a specialty in all sorts of rugged, durable layers (like one of the best shirt jackets). And that heritage certainly lives on in fine form with the Filson Field Jac-Shirt, part of a recent wave of Filson New Arrivals that demand some serious space in your closet.

Filson menswear review.

Made from sturdy yet supple 9.5oz. cotton for durable performance on breezy spring days, this rugged shirt jacket takes inspiration from old-school military fatigues — would you expect anything else from Filson? They’ve also modeled the latest take on the shirt jacket from Filson’s original Jac-Shirt, another sign of reliable performance and quality.

Better still is the fact that the Filson Field Jac-Shirt comes in a garment-washed design for an easygoing feel that works as well over a classic T-shirt as it does your favorite short-sleeve henley.

And of course, the Filson Field Jac-Shirt is built with style points galore, the timeless Army Green colorway very much included. A hard-wearing shirt jacket is a spring style essential, and it gets no better than this one from Filson.

Style Pick of the Week: Filson Eagle Harbor Jac Shirt – One of the Best Spring Shirt Jackets

Best shirt jacket for men.

As we move slowly but surely into spring, it’s high time to take stock of your rotation of the best spring jackets, is it not? Spring conditions, with the potential for everything from blustery weather, rain and wind to sunshine, call for some of the hardest-wearing, hardest-working gear on the market — gear from Filson, to be more specific.

The Pacific Northwest heritage brand is a personal favorite for its emphasis on heirloom-worthy quality, tough performance and style points in equal measure, something they’ve emphasized for over a century now. And given the company’s Seattle roots, it only makes sense that a rugged outerwear pick like the Filson Eagle Harbor Jac Shirt would get the job done in fine form this season.

The Filson Eagle Harbor Jac Shirt is about as tough and hard-wearing as it gets, with an easy-on, easy-off snap button front placket, two sturdy button chest pockets for your everyday carry and of course, the outfitter’s legendary, weather-ready fabric. When it comes to the Filson Eagle Harbor Jac Shirt, that fabric happens to be a water-resistant waxed cotton that’ll get even better with age.

As the iconic company says, they modeled your new favorite shirt jacket “after our original wool Jac-Shirt that’s been an outdoors staple since the mid-1970s,” and that’s a heritage-minded point worth keeping in mind. The waxed cotton of the Filson Eagle Harbor Jac Shirt should easily stand up to wind and rain, proving useful to layer over everything from a thermal Filson henley to a classic T-shirt to, say, a lightweight Filson flannel shirt.

It’s rugged enough to wear with dark blue jeans, cool enough to wear with olive chinos and overall, the Filson Eagle Harbor Jac Shirt is up to just about any challenge this early spring — style-related, weather-wise or anywhere else.

The Friday Read: Dining at Reyna New York & The Best Menswear for Your Weekend

Reyna New York City review

My friends, thanks for joining me here at The Style Guide this fine spring Friday. It’s been quite the bustling first full week of spring here in the Big Apple, as you very well might know if you follow me on Instagram, and I had the chance to switch things up just a bit.

Yes, I attended a press preview with excellent active recovery footwear brand OOFOS, and I caught up with some PR industry friends at the buzzy ’70s-style cocktail bar The Flower Shop, but there was one highlight of my week in particular that stood out as a bit different from the ordinary (an understatement).

I don’t consider myself a major gourmand by any stretch of the imagination, but I know what I love — a mix of hearty and refreshing dishes that put a new spin on the classics, and I found that in spades when I dined at NYC’s newest hotspot, Reyna New York (courtesy of Purple PR). I’m grateful I get to experience plenty of the best on offer in NYC and elsewhere, broadening my horizons (and my palate!) all the while through my freelance writing pursuits.

The Mediterranean tapas and cocktail bar is much-loved in Toronto, and I soon suspect NYC will join that list. We chatted all things spirits and menswear, of course, but the star of the evening was the meal itself. I’ll keep it brief right from the jump: Add it to your list the next time you visit The City That Never Sleeps.

Reyna NYC review

I especially appreciate a spot that makes rethink what I thought I knew about certain styles of cuisine, like the Mediterranean fusion emphasized throughout the menu at Reyna (which opened formally last fall). There’s a luxe feel to the space, communicated nicely through warm lighting, colorful banquettes and a detailed cocktail menu that doubles as an illustration book for each offering.

And the menu itself, from the Lebanese Tacos to a wonderful Paella dish (share it among friends!), is full of something for everyone. Take it from me: Get the Mezcal Smokeshow if you want to step into the world of Mezcal, and be prepared for a delightful array of small plates. Again, take it from: Reyna New York is a must-go on your next visit to the city. So, that’s but one recommendation to start your weekend.

Of course, I’ll leave you with a menswear recommendation you can find more close at hand (in your wardrobe soon enough, if you order today!). If you keep up with the blog — and I’m certainly hoping you do! — you might have seen this one coming, but as spring rolls into town, there’s perhaps not a better brand to shop than Taylor Stitch.

It’s a simple enough recommendation, to be sure, but whether you seek the classic Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt or a super-soft, lightweight and breezy polo, the Taylor Stitch New Arrivals section will certainly outfit you handsomely — especially if you have spring or summer plans to visit New York City and dine at Reyna! In the meantime, let’s gear up for spring the best way possible: With a gear refresh and a few fun plans on the horizon. Cheers and thanks for reading, my friends!

The Friday Read: Taylor Stitch Spring Essentials, The Best Merino Shoes & Spring’s Best Chore Coats

Best men's trucker jacket for spring.

Folks, thanks for swinging by The Style Guide here on this fine spring Friday. Last week, I was in Atlantic City seeing The Killers, but this week, it’s been all New York, all the time. Perhaps you’ve been keeping up with the fun on my Instagram, but it’s been an action-packed week featuring events with the likes of American Crew grooming in Brooklyn — a special VIP evening featuring hair styling sessions at the Crown Club at Barclays Center — not to mention some sports-related fun via Michigan State’s appearance in the NCAA Tournament in NYC. Talk about an ideal way to see your alma mater play!

Beyond that, I’ve been busy prepping for spring and testing plenty of new gear, from the best men’s Chelsea boots to one of the best popover sweaters for spring. With all that in mind, I hope you’ll find the rest of today’s Friday Read to your liking, including my recommendation here for the best new spring menswear from Taylor Stitch.

The new lineup at the famed San Francisco retailer includes the Taylor Stitch Long Haul Jacket as seen above, a personal favorite of mine that should fit nicely into your wardrobe of spring menswear essentials. And if you’re still in search of other spring menswear picks, then a few of my choice reads below should be of assistance. Happy shopping and happy spring, my friends!

  • If you’ve been keeping up with this style blog, or else shopping the fine menswear at Huckberry, perhaps you recognize the above stylish men’s jacket. It’s one of my top picks for spring, assuredly, and that’s why I was pleased to include it in my latest Maxim guide on the best chore coats for the season ahead. Give it a look, and shop it right now at Huckberry in the meantime.
  • Speaking of spring style essentials, here’s one you might not have heard of, or considered: The best merino shoes for men. Merino wool is lightweight and warm yet breathable, naturally moisture-wicking and anti-microbial, and found in plenty of the best merino menswear. But what about merino shoes? Yes indeed, that’s where my guide to the best merino shoes comes into play, as I wrote about this month over at AskMen.
  • I’ll leave you with one last stylish spring menswear selection, one right from the very pages of this blog. The Taylor Stitch Jacquard Polo is a textured, visually appealing piece to shake up your casual style rotation, and you can read all about it right here, right now. Happy shopping, once again.

That’s all I’ve got for your Friday Read today, but I’d wager you’ve got more than enough to keep you occupied, from shopping the best new spring menswear from Taylor Stitch to hitting up your favorite brewery for a fresh spring beer this weekend. As always, be on the lookout for tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week, and we’ll see you then. Cheers!

The best men’s henley? Perhaps, yes indeed.

There will come a time this spring when it’s too breezy to wear just a T-shirt, but not quite cold enough to throw on a heavier jacket — for all those times (and plenty more), wear one of the best men’s henleys. We’re talking, of course, about the Olivers Convoy Henley, part of the new Olivers spring collection and made with excellent, breathable fabric.

We’ve covered a lot of ground, and a lot of gear today — from the perfect home speaker  to one of the best men’s henleys, and right on through to the excellent Proof 72-Hour Merino Polo. What’s your take on all this gear, and what’s going onto your shopping list? Let me know on Twitter. Cheers!
