The Friday Read: USA-Made Boots from FRYE, Faherty Gives Back & A New Bespoke Post Jacket

The coolest denim jacket for a fall weekend — or a winter weekend.

Folks, I’m here to tell you as we kick off today’s Friday Read that I think I’ve found it. What exactly is it? Well, it’s nothing less than the best denim jacket for fall and winter, the Line of Trade Montana Winterized Denim Trucker Jacket, a standout new addition to the Bespoke Post Web site that you should shop ASAP. As it were, I’m going to be reviewing this Line of Trade denim jacket very soon, and in fact, I had the chance to check it out virtually via Zoom as part of the Bespoke Post Holiday Preview last week (the days of menswear events are far off in the future, sadly!). The great news is, this jacket is available right now in advance of colder weather. And let me tell you this: Right now won’t be the last you hear of this stellar denim jacket, and you can even spot it in an upcoming #OOTD post on this very site in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned, folks.

In the meantime, today’s Friday Read is packed with a heck of a lot of the best gear for fall, so I know you’ll find picks aplenty in the meantime. As for me, I’m going to stay busy this weekend working on my newsletter — The Style Guide In Brief — and you should be sure to subscribe if you want a twice-weekly (Tuesday and Saturday!) dose of menswear, gear, craft beer & naturally, indie rock. It’s all in a day’s work, folks. If you want more seasonal style content, be sure to check out my bylines at Maxim and GearMoose, too. For now, I’m off to take a fall stroll in search of a classic fall beer — and lest we forget, my beloved Michigan State Spartans return (safely, I hope!) to the college football gridiron this weekend. Go Green! It’s the theme of the weekend, after all. Here’s the rest of the Friday Read below.

Perfectly rugged boots that also go towards a good cause.

  • Here’s some great news for you if you like your purchases to give back AND look great at the same time. FRYE, the brand you know and love from this blog (and elsewhere!), is donating $10 to Feeding America for every pair of Made in USA shoes sold in October. My favorite styles include picks like the rugged-yet-ever-so-slightly-dressy Logan Cap Toe Boots and the tough-as-nails FRYE Prison Boots for all-day style this fall and winter. They’re both investment-level boots, but assuredly worth it — for both style and a good cause.
Faherty Legend Sweater Shirt

More stylish menswear that gives back, thanks to Faherty.

  • But wait, there’s more when it comes to giving back and looking great while doing so.  Faherty Brand, a personal favorite of mine for classic pieces like the Faherty Legend Sweater Shirt as seen above, is donating 100 percent of proceeds from indigenous-inspired print menswear to Doug Good Feather’s Lakota Way Healing Center — how’s that for a deal you can get behind this season, ehh?
  • Let’s ease into a fall weekend with a perfectly crafted seasonal sipper, shall we? I’ve recently been testing out Spiriban’s Clement Barrel Rhum, a longstanding Caribbean rum favorite you can enjoy in simple rum cocktails or better yet, as an after-dinner sipper. Of course, there’s good news: You can get some of fall’s best rum delivered to you via alcohol delivery service Drizly.
  • We’ve talked spirits, we’ve talked menswear, we’ve talked boots … let’s talk about men’s grooming essentials. I’ve also had the chance to test out the highly effective Disco Face Moisturizer, and it’s with dry fall weather on the way that I’m recommending you check out this brand now. They’re making unique grooming picks with innovative ingredients like eucalyptus, all the better to nourish your skin and reduce inflammation. Pick up some now and look sharp, even as cold weather rolls in.

Before I let you head off into the weekend, dreaming of a rum cocktail or a new winterized denim jacket, allow me to offer up one more fall buying guide. Perhaps a fall road trip is in your future, yes? In that case, check out my guide on how to dress for a fall road trip, featuring stylish sneakerboots, a tough denim jacket and so much more. And here’s one more reminder to hit Subscribe on my newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief, in time to get my Saturday dispatch (and next Tuesday’s of course). To connect with me further for weekend style tips aplenty, feel free to give me a follow on Twitter. OK, folks. Have a great one!

Your new favorite jacket for the end of summer (and into early fall) — guaranteed.

It’s official — we’re slowly but surely getting through the dog days of summer and ever closer to *gulp* Labor Day weekend. How about that? Even as Labor Day approaches, you still need summer style essentials, and to be sure, you need one of the best men’s jackets on your back, perhaps now more than ever. That’s because breezy late summer weather doesn’t slow down, and thus, I give you the Faherty Brand Surf Stripe Packable Jacket. It’s quite simply got plenty going for it, making it one of the best casual jackets for men on the market at the moment. But as with Faherty Brand, there really is so much more than meets the eye.

You very well might recognize the brand from past posts on this site — they make a stylish summer poncho and some of the best men’s flannel shirts, too — and their commitment to casually cool-yet-rugged styles never wavers. This classic packable jacket is the epitome of what the brand does best, made to fit right into your rugged weekender bag for one final beach getaway — and featuring nylon construction to battle sea beezes and rain, too.

SHOP: The Faherty Brand Surf Stripe Packable Jacket

The right details make for the best casual jacket for the summer months, folks.

Make no mistake, a stylish casual jacket is a must-have in your rotation of the best summer gear, even if it’s sunny and warm during the day. Back patio beers and bonfires await, and the best summer jacket is just what you need — it’s easy to throw on over your favorite T-shirt or a rugged denim shirt, complemented by breezy rolled chinos or hybrid swim shorts. Heck, this Faherty Brand jacket could even work well into early fall, if layered up properly with one of the best crewneck sweatshirts and your favorite pair of blue jeans. Whaddya say? The bold retro stripe on the front of this jacket is eyecatching and yet subtly stylish — kind of like a cool, old lifeguard jacket. Isn’t that what you want at the beach and on the boardwalk this summer? No matter where you’re headed the rest of August and into fall, Faherty Brand has you covered.

The Friday Read: The Best Comedies on Amazon Prime, A Faherty Brand Sale & Supporting Small Businesses

Folks, thanks once again for swinging through to check out another Friday Read during evermore strange, trying times. If you’d like to take your mind off the news — and who wouldn’t, at this point?? — I submit to you one of the latest spring style essentials from Buck Mason. The Striped Field-Spec Cotton Surplus Crew is a perfect casual spring layering pick, one you can certainly wear atop a stylish Oxford shirt on a casual day  working from home, a solitary stroll or perhaps, a quick jaunt fo fill up your favorite growler at your favorite brewery. At least, I certainly hope that’s something you can access at the moment. As for me, I’ve been spending lots of time listening to my favorite records, drinking coffee, writing, and of course — during the week — holding down the fort at my social media agency day job (from afar, naturally). My writing work is ongoing at GearMoose if you’re of the mind to stock up on some new EDC essentials or other key gear picks, too. In fact, I just wrote about some of the best hand creams for men, a crucial necessity as we all head to the sink more and more to keep our hands germ-free. Today’s Friday Read is going to focus on a healthy dose of menswear, but I’m also of the mind that you can do that while giving back. We’re looking at brands you know and love like Taylor Stitch, and maybe one or two you’re not as familiar with. If you want to keep up with what I’m reading and enjoying at the moment, follow me on Instagram. In the meantime, stay safe & thanks for reading.

Kick back and shop this standout menswear sale for a limited time.

  • Let’s dive into one of the best men’s sales to shop now, shall we? We all seem to have quite a bit more time to shop online these days, so why not check out the excellent Faherty Brand sitewide sale. In fact, you  can start with the outstanding Faherty Brand Movement Shirt, pictured above. Sitewide sales are a rarity coming from a retailer that makes some of the best men’s casual gear, so get ready to take 25 percent off SITEWIDE for a limited time, with the discount automatically applied at checkout. It’s a standout sale that’ll pay serious dividends in terms of breezy spring style essentials (as shown above!), so start shopping. Again, 25 percent off at Faherty Brand … it sounds great to me.
  • We’ve all been talking a lot lately about “flattening the curve” to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, and I’ve no doubt you’ve been doing your part. But what if … you could do more? Shop and give back at the same time, that is to say? Well, men’s lifestyle and golf brand Linksoul has launched a charity T-shirt campaign to give back to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, and you’d do well to get acquainted with the cause. How does it work? Pre-order a limited-edition Linksoul T-shirt (designed by brand co-founder and artist Geoff Cunningham), and 100 percent of the proceeds go to the CDP. The limited-edition graphic T-shirts will ship out at the end of April, and right now, who couldn’t find a spot in their closet for a stylish tee that gives back? Do your part by visiting Linksoul online this weekend.
  • In the way of other neat and surprisingly positive news related to COVID-19, my good friends at Taylor Stitch have launched a new social campaign — #StandSmall — to support their favorite small businesses and encourage their followers do the same. The campaign features a #StandSmall directory that the brand is updating, and they’ll add your recommendations to the list! Be it through online or delivery orders, merch purchases or donations, I’m willing to bet your favorite local coffee shop, bar or restaurant is doing something to support its community  and its employees during this time.  On that note, Taylor Stitch launched a seriously cool coffee and menswear collab with Arizona creative shop and cafe FourTillFour that’s worth your time (I have some of the coffee on the way!).  Oh, and another note on Taylor Stitch: They’re running an indefinite 25 percent off sale. Get your hands on the best new men’s gear now.
  • To close things out: I’m guessing we could all use a little something to lift our spirits, yes? In that case, I’d suggest checking out the best comedies to watch on Amazon Prime (if in fact you have it) — Vulture curated this list, and there are some old-school throwbacks (pre-World War II) and new, under-the-radar sleepers (literally — “Under the Silver Lake” was a highly enjoyable watch for me last weekend). Enjoy!

That’s going to cap off this edition of The Friday Read. Ideally, you’ve got something new to watch, read or shop this weekend. I’d also recommend you check out the always-excellent mix of spring style essentials on display at Huckberry — they’ve not lost a step yet. Of course, the Huckberry Journal is a never-not-interesting take on what to read, shop and listen to during these trying times and weekends at home — I can’t recommend it enough for when you think you’ve run out of things to read or ways to enrich your mind. Alright, my friends: Be good to each other, stay safe, take care of yourself, and we’ll see you here tomorrow for my Style Pick of the Week. Thanks for reading!

See Now, Buy Now: This Faherty Brand Shirt is the Best Flannel Shirt for Winter — Guaranteed

A classic flannel shirt done up in remarkable fabric from Faherty Brand.

We’re making — as we so often do — a rather bold claim here today at The Style Guide, but it’s one I think you’ll appreciate. The best flannel shirt for winter (or certainly, one of them) is pictured above and featured throughout this article today: That’d be the Faherty Brand Brushed Everyday Shirt, a super-soft, ultra-cozy, extremely well-made flannel shirt for winter weather. The difference is in the details, as one would expect from Faherty Brand, and that’s why it’s worth it to turn toward this laidback, timeless brand to upgrade your winter shirting in a hurry.
Logo 234x60
But wait … maybe you’re wondering why you should drop some hard-earned cash on this shirt? To be fair, this rugged flannel shirt is $148, but again, it’s rugged, classic shirting you’re investing in here — and you’re getting tons of wearability in turn (to say the very least). Faherty’s family-run ethos (the company was founded by brothers Mike and Alex in 2013) shines through, right down to the fact that you know who’s designing your shirt — and testing it out, for that matter.

A classic fit leaves room for layering without going overboard. Well-done, Faherty Brand.

We mentioned that this classic flannel shirt stands apart for its fabric — and that’s certainly true in this instance. Faherty Brand’s Brushed Everyday Shirt is made with soft brushed cotton for a remarkable feel and finish — it’s almost like wearing a blanket (minus, y’know, the actual blanket part of things). This flannel shirt is also a heavier weight than your typical Oxford shirt, so you should feel free to layer it up atop your favorite henley and perhaps throw on a down vest to venture out on a cold Friday night. The Lodge Check pattern found on this stylish flannel shirt is perfect for winter, too — that color combo should play well off everything from your favorite blue jeans and rugged leather boots to slim tan chinos, a navy peacoat and classic chukka boots. Essentially, whether you need a flannel shirt to wear to the office or a classic winter shirt you can throw on to look polished as you grab a weekend coffee, well, Faherty Brand’s Brushed Everyday Shirt is the one you’re going to want — ASAP.

See Now, Buy Now: This Faherty Brand Sherpa Jacket Is The Best New Winter Jacket to Buy

The perfect winter jacket to buy now? I’ll let you be the judge of that.

OK, you know the drill. We’re kicking 2020 (yes, 2020!) off with a bang as I put forth another entry in our ongoing See Now, Buy Now series, featuring one standout product to shop right now. In the case of today’s post, well, we’re telling you  all about one of the best winter jackets, a pleasingly rugged, cozy and versatile Faherty Brand sherpa jacket that also doubles as a shirt — and a stylish layer in its own right, at that. This Sherpa Lined Wool CPO from Faherty Brand takes its cues from all the right areas — namely, it’s inspired by and named after the warm, classic Chief Petty Officer coats (hence, CPO) worn in the field. It’s one of the most rugged jackets you can buy, yet it retains the classic Faherty Brand aesthetic — laidback, easygoing and yet functional and rugged. Of course, the specs are what really sets this thing apart — as one would expect.

SHOP: The Faherty Brand Sherpa-Lined CPO Jacket

You won’t have any trouble staying warm in this jacket.

Firsst of all, there’s the high-pile fleece lining for extra comfort — that makes this a worthwhile layer to pair up with your favorite henley or a rugged thermal shirt in equal measure. Heck, you can even wear it atop another Faherty Brand shirt for an added layer (quite literally) of perfectly rugged style. The sleeves of this Sherpa Lined Wool CPO from Faherty Brand are also lined with nylon, an added touch that delivers even more comfort. Heck, from the sounds of it, the Sherpa Lined Wool CPO might be as comfortable as wearing, well, a blanket (as Faherty so wisely says). And as if you needed it, the Vintage Blue Plaid pattern is a fun way to shake things up through the doldrums of winter. So, there’s no more time to waste — snag your new favorite jacket right now.

See Now, Buy Now: Gear Up for the End of Summer with this Faherty Brand Poncho

The breezy, cool outer layer to wear for crisp late summer & early fall nights.

Does it feel a bit strange to be looking toward Labor Day and thinking about early fall gear like rugged leather boots, overshirts and the like? Well, we’re not ready to close the book on summer quite yet, and neither is Faherty Brand — take the Faherty Brand Pacific Poncho, for instance. It’s the perfect layer with which to end summer, given its hybrid styling potential and the laidback, West Coast appeal for which Faherty Brand is known, of course. Made from breezy brushed cotton and featuring the enduringly cool Dusty Colorado print, think of the Faherty Brand Pacific Poncho as the upgraded take on the sort of pullovers you’d see at your local skate park (you know what I mean). Indeed, Faherty Brand has translated the things that make the brand a year-round essential — check out the Faherty Brand Brushed Flannel, to start — into unstoppable transitional pieces. Yes, that’s right — unstoppable.
SHOP: The Faherty Brand Pacific Poncho

This surprisingly stylish poncho is the sort of outer layer to pack in your weekend bag for a Labor Day getaway (or any early fall trip, for that matter), and the Faherty Brand Pacific Poncho also provides more than just something to throw on at a bonfire. That is to say, it’s stylish enough to be worn with dark denim and a charcoal Oxford shirt to grab a beer on the town, and chambray detailing gives it even more visual interest. Don’t sleep on this sort of layer, either – consider it an upgraded over an athletic logo hooded sweatshirt, and a huge one at that. When it gets a bit chilly in early fall, you can also layer it under a rugged denim jacket — no sweat. So you see, shifting from summer into early fall needn’t be a chore, and the Faherty Brand Pacific Poncho proves that.

Style Pick of the Week: Faherty Brand Luxe Heather Henley

Faherty Brand

The best henley to wear all winter? Perhaps, yes.

We talk often at The Style Guide about the men’s style essentials you can’t live without, like the best henley for winter. And we talk often about Faherty Brand, the West Coast-based brand that channels California cool with style for the modern man. Those two qualities come together in the Faherty Brand Luxe Heather Henley, a premium winter style upgrade that you’re going to want to wear this weekend — and the one after that, and the one after that. The Faherty Brand Luxe Heather Henley is perhaps unlike any henley you’ve worn before, featuring soft 100 percent heathered cotton in a rich navy color — perfect for pairing up with slim tan chinos, a shawl collar cardigan (also from Faherty Brand, perhaps?) and your favorite leather boots.

SHOP: The Faherty Brand Luxe Heather Henley

It can be difficult — read: extremely difficult — to find a henley that works in casual style situations (like a trip to your favorite brewery) as well as in instances that more dressy. Yet, true to its name, the Faherty Brand Luxe Heather Henley should wear just as well with slim faded jeans and a rugged shirt jacket as it does with a navy cotton blazer to the office this winter. The chambray detailing and heather fabric kick things up a notch in terms of premium quality — would you expect anything less from Faherty Brand? Surely not.

Your author’s favorite color of this premium henley.

And there’s another, much more simple reason you should consider picking up the Faherty Brand Luxe Heather Henley — every guy looks great in a henley, plain and simple. The sport-inspired roots of the silhouette, plus the raglan sleeve stitching on this particular henley, lend a rugged appeal to even the most straightforward winter outfits (think a classic chambray shirt and slim corduroy pants). The Faherty Brand Luxe Heather Henley is also available in three easily wearable colors, although the navy option shown above has the most inventory available. In my mind, that makes the Faherty Brand Luxe Heather Henley the perfect pick-up for your next winter weekend outing. It’s also helpful to have a closet stocked full of warm, cozy (yet stylish!) base layers with many a chilly day ahead — this henley is an on-point layering option that looks great even when you step out of your winter parka. In short, I really don’t see any downside to picking up the  Faherty Brand Luxe Heather Henley — what say you? Feel free to let me know your thoughts about this piece on Twitter. Thanks for reading!

SHOP: The Faherty Brand Stretch Canvas Trousers

So, why exactly these pants, and why now? That’s easy. We talked before about that mix of rugged durability and versatility — it’s the depths of winter after all, and the Faherty Brand Stretch Canvas Trousers are what the brand calls its heaviest but most mobile pants.
