#OOTD: How to Wear the Best New Boots for Guys This Fall

Seeing as we’re cruising through fall, there are a couple things that are pretty clear in my mind in terms of men’s style essentials. For starters, you need a pair of the best boots for men on your feet ASAP. What’s more, you need a functional pair of boots that also happen to look great — while also offering what you might call more unique style. And above all else, you need to know how to wear boots this season, especially when the boots in question are the rugged-yet-refined Season Three Ansel Hiking Boots out of New York City. Featuring the cut of a hiking boot but some of the refined touches of your favorite dress boots, you’ll recognize plenty of versatile complementary pieces to help you get ‘out and about (safely) this season.

From a tough field jacket to a rugged men’s henley, the layers on your top half are every bit as “ready for anything” as your new favorite boots. And on your bottom half, you’ll recognize classics like slim dark blue denim and perhaps the best leather belt and the best men’s socks, all compiled with an eye toward helping you navigate the city, head upstate, get out on a day hike and grab a cold beer at an outdoor (socially distanced!) beer tent afterwards. How does that sound? This #OOTD is nothing if not versatile, so you should keep on scrolling to check it out below. When you build from the ground up with a pair of the best boots for men this season, darn near anything is possible.

Pair up versatile hiking boots with casual, rugged classics for fall.

So, that’s it. That’s today’s #OOTD. It’s a versatile combination of both adventure gear — heck, just check out that exceptional Ollech & Wajs Pilot Watch — plus gear picks that can do a bit of everything (naturally, the centerpiece Season Three Ansel Hiking Boots get the job done). The rest of this ensemble works well in or out of town, especially around a backyard bonfire on a crisp fall night. You’re staying warm with one of the best men’s henleys from Buck Mason, and you’re layering up in rugged, classic fashion with the Filson Field Flannel Shirt for timeless fall style — how about that? Classic slim blue jeans from Mott and Bow tie things together in a way that’s just a bit more versatile than technical hiking pants, and the epically cool Todd Snyder Made-in-New York Field Jacket looks great, provides tough functionality and works with anything in your fall wardrobe.

Naturally, your supporting cast is what’s going to set this #OOTD apart, so the best leather belt from Billykirk is a reliable style move. To keep your feet comfortable in style, I’m a huge proponent of the American Trench Merino Activity Socks — and to ease into your evening with some bourbon whiskey in hand, how about switching on some of the best Bluetooth headphones from the good folks at Master & Dynamic? Taken together, this ensemble provides rugged style, performance, durability and some seriously cool style for fall — can it get any better than that? I don’t think so. If you pick up any of these pieces, feel free to let me know on Twitter. Happy fall, my friends!

Speaking of adventures, your Blundstone boots are a reliable and dependable style move this season, and they work in expert fashion alongside underrated accessories — take a  rugged field watch and one of the best leather belts for men, for starters. If you ask me, the most stylish way to stay warm in the fall chill is with a new Huckberry Beanie, and for road trips and park strolls aplenty, you should snag some of the best Bluetooth headphones for listening to your favorite music in style. What’s the ultimate pièce de résistance, though? Why, none other than Woodford Reserve Bourbon for rich fall cocktails and pleasingly refined fall sipping, folks (A reminder that Drizly can deliver it right to your door). #OOTD: How to Dress for a Casual Fall Weekend This Year

Folks, maybe it caught you off-guard, out of the blue. Perhaps you woke up on a recent weekend and realized some breezy, ever-so-slightly crisp fall weather had snuck up on you. Well? What’s a guy to do when it comes to getting dressed for a fall weekend? The gear you wore in the past (college sweats, anyone?) isn’t quite up to snuff now, so I’ve got the answers — fear not. It’s high time you prepped for fall with another unstoppable #OOTD filled with, well, the best fall gear for men, my friends. And if you’ve been wondering how to dress for a fall weekend in style — and in a way that’s different from the casual menswear so many of us are now rocking at home during the week — you’re in luck.

Dressing for a breezy, cool, fall weekend should be fun, versatile and ready for anything, so trade in those old sweats. Whether you decide to dash out to the brewery to snap up some Oktoberfest beers (wear a mask!) or whether you’re heading out of town on a day trip or an orchard visit, these picks will get the job done. We’re talking one of the best casual jackets for fall, worn atop a Todd Snyder + Champion sweatshirt, for starters. Other accessories are along for the ride, including a casual Shinola watch. And if your day is spent in closer proximity to home, pieces like one of the best Bluetooth speakers of the moment are included in this ensemble, too (heck, once you see this speaker, you’ll want to pack it up to bring to your cabin). The point is this: Versatility and casual comfort — yet serious style points — are the M.O. of right now, so be sure you’re stocked up on all the best men’s from head-to-toe (stylish vintage ballcap included). Good luck out there, and feel free to let me know what you think of this look on Twitter.

All the casual, comfortable, rugged and cozy gear picks you need in your next fall #OOTD.

Whatever your weekend has in store — but especially if it’s got a mix of at-home hangs and adventures in the wild and across town — this #OOTD can handle it. It all starts, fittingly enough, with the Relwen Windzip Jacket, one of the coolest men’s jackets for fall, and one that’s easy to layer and ready for breezy seasonal weather. And how else to complement it for style out & about (or again, at home) than with one of the best crewneck sweatshirts from NYC’s Todd Snyder? It’s a recipe for success when you consider the base layer you’re working with: A rugged men’s henley that works just as well on its own as when layered up.

The reason this look works so stylishly is that it’s a step up from the ordinary — as in, some of the best casual pants are the right way to swap out your typical sweatpants. The whole ensemble looks even better (casual yet still cool) when you lace up the GREATS Court Sneakers, and naturally, the excellent Shinola Guardian Watch is one of the best men’s casual watches you can buy. Elsewhere, a pair of the best socks for men are as necessary an accessory as any, and American Trench is going to ensure that even your socks look darn stylish. As mentioned above, days at home — and even trips to your cabin — call for some essential listening, and the Master & Dynamic MA770 Wireless Speaker is as good as it gets. Top it all off with a rugged ballcap, then start planning out your weekend — you’ve earned it. To see how I’m dressing for fall, follow me on Instagram.

#OOTD: How to Dress for a Fall Road Trip Right Now

We’ve been talking for some time now on the blog about how to dress for early fall (and beyond), and now that we’ve officially crossed over into the season itself, let’s pivot ever so slightly. Let’s go beyond the confines of your home office and your back patio, and let’s talk about how to dress for a fall road trip. I’m not talking about hopping on a cross-country flight — I’m moreso talking about the kind of trip where you pack up a durable duffle bag, grab your most rugged denim jacket, bring along your craft beer growler … and then get in the car and go. Where to?  A cabin, the lake, the river, a quiet town upstate … any and all of the above, right? Right. What to bring with you?

Well, a stylish face mask, for starters. But beyond that, we’ll cover all your fall style essentials for a road trip today on the blog — rest assured of that. Comfort, durability and style are the key here, seeing as you might be going off-trail for a hike or spending plenty of time on your feet, hopping from brewery to brewery (patios and masks preferred). Given that approach, you’ll find the best pants for fall travel and some stylish sneaker boots in the mix, too. Of course, all the right layers are along for the ride, including a tough workwear shirt  and a rugged leather watch. These are picks suited for casual (masked) strolls around town, and with a bit of improvisation, you can get out the door for that orchard or winery tour (at least, that’s what I’d do). How about it? Is this #OOTD ready for fall? I sure hope you think so. Stay safe, gear up and let me know what you think of this ensemble on Twitter.

Versatile, rugged layers for hitting the road this fall.

  • The Jacket: Todd Snyder Japanese Stretch Selvedge Denim Jacket, $288 — Made from rich indigo Japanese cotton with plenty of stretch, this classic denim jacket is one of the best denim jackets around, and it’s ideal for falll layering given the built-in stretch.
  • The Shirt: Flint and Tinder Selvage Architects Shirt, $128 — Layer up your rugged denim jacket with a new Flint and Tinder shirt, cut like a classic Oxford shirt and yet featuring Japanese selvage fabric for tough durability in fall weather.
  • The Tee: Buck Mason Long-Sleeve Raglan Tee, $52 — Keep the fall layering rolling with one of the most comfortable long-sleeve tees around. Buck Mason gets it done.
  • The Pants: Western Rise AT Slim Pants in Sand, $128 — Cut in a classic five-pocket silhouette and featuring plenty of durability and stretch, these Western Rise pants are the best pants for fall travel, period.
  • The Sneaker Boots: HELM Cole Sneakers in Wheat, $240 — The brand that makes some of your favorite boots (as seen here) is now making some of the best men’s sneakers, cut to be the perfect hybrid between, well, sneakers and boots.
  • The Watch: Luminox Atacama Field Chronograph, $940 — If you want a rugged leather watch that you can wear on the road and then out to grab socially distanced craft beers, you want this durable field watch from Luminox, my friends.
  • The Hat: Huckberry Explorer’s Cap, $40 — A fittingly named hat for fall adventures, and certainly one of the best men’s ballcaps out there.
  • The Travel Bag: Halfday Garment Duffle, $95 — Looking for the best travel bag under $100? You’ve found it. This garment bag from Bespoke Post zips into a stylish duffle bag, and comes complete with tough hardware, a built-in shoe compartment and more.

If I had to guess, I’d wager that this #OOTD is going to carry you through fall more than stylishly and reliably, no doubt about it. If you’ve been wondering how to dress for fall, period, or how to dress for a fall road trip, start here. A rugged workwear shirt teams stylishly with your new favorite denim jacket, and of course, that combination layers up more than readily with one of the best long-sleeve T-shirts for fall, courtesy of our pals at Buck Mason. When it gets a bit too warm (as is known to happen with shifting winds and fall sunlight), ditch the denim jacket and stick with the long-sleeve tee and your Flint and Tinder shirt. It all works in harmony with the best pants for fall travel, a durable pair that’ll stand up to fall weather and long hours in the car. But of course, a pair of the best men’s sneakers takes the cake on the footwear front (make sure your HELM boots are packed in your bag, of course) — there’s nothing better than comfortable sneaker boots for the trail and the taproom, am I right?

It all comes together in precisely the right way on the accessories front when you consider the versatility of your durable field watch from Luminox, fit for all-day wear. To keep the sun off your face and shield your eyes from the wind ever so slightly, throw on the Huckberry Explorer’s Cap for anything and everything on your to-do list. Last but certainly not least, a versatile duffle bag is the perfect way to haul your weekend style essentials (and it’s easy to pack and easy to zip out into a hanging garment bag). Alright, folks. Who’s ready to hit the road? I’ll see you out there. To get the scoop on how I’m dressing for fall, head to my Instagram

#OOTD: How to Wear a Waxed Trucker Jacket This Fall

You wake up one morning, and you know: Fall is well and truly here. You open your window, that crisp, cold air hits … and immediately, your mind jumps to your lovingly stored jackets and sweaters. It’s time, once again, to really start dressin’How exactly are you going to do that? It’s simple, really. Start with one of the best waxed trucker jackets as sold by Huckberry, then go from there. The fall season already looks mighty different (no college football, for one), but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t dress to experience the pleasures of fall — a to-go brewery trip or a socially distanced orchard visit might be the norm these days, but today’s #OOTD has all the stops covered. To wit: We’re talking even more of the best picks for fall, so as to ensure you’ve got day-to-night style on lock. That means a stylish merino henley and a Levi’s western shirt, for starters. From there, we’re lacing up tough leather boots and throwing on a Shinola leather watch. The overall effect is rugged and functional without going overboard — and it’s going to look great on many a chilly fall day, guaranteed. Check out the full look below, and as ever, head to Instagram to see how I’m dressing this fall. Cheers!

A tough waxed trucker jacket, worn the right way for fall.

Can you feel it in the air? Fall’s best adventures are ahead of us yet, I just know it. When you make a Flint and Tinder waxed jacket the centerpiece of your outfit, only good things are in store — in my humble opinion. This look gets a rugged shot in the arm via both a rugged Western shirt and of course, perhaps the perfect base layer for fall — they’re going to work in harmony to keep you warm and comfortable on the go, no matter what (and when you need to take your trucker jacket off, you can rest assured knowing you still look put together). For mobile, adventure-ready style that works from the trail to the brewery, the Topo Designs Dirt Pants are the right way to go (note the drawstring waistband for comfort). Those straight-fit cotton pants should sit mighty nicely atop some of the best leather boots for fall, a pair coming at you courtesy of FRYE. There’s also never a bad time to throw on the Shinola Runwell Watch, one that works with rugged gear picks like these — as well as dressier fall style situations (when those do occur, that is to say).

If you’re rolling solo and enjoy having a podcast or your favorite indie rock in your headphones, then Master & Dynamic headphones are the only way to go here (wireless functionality makes ’em well-suited for plenty of fall excursions). And of course, to haul your everyday carry essentials, a Filson twill bag is the right move. What’s your take on this look? And where will it take you this fall? Be sure to let me know on Twitter. Again, thanks for reading!

#OOTD: How to Wear A Henley for Early Fall

It’s absolutely a must-have for the season ahead, and when you find it, you know. I’m talking, of course, about one of the best men’s henleys for fall, the subject of today’s #OOTD — and not a moment too soon. The best henley for men is ideally rugged, durable, classic, premium and yet … easy to wear nearly everywhere. How can one henley do all that? Well, you’re about to find out. We’ll show you how to wear the exceptional Todd Snyder Double Knit Henley, a fittingly sporting-inspired homage to the henley’s roots in England.

It’s since become something of a menswear classic, and if you wear it the right way (with an indigo overshirt from Flint and Tinder, for starters), you’re going to love the way you look this fall (guaranteed). You’ll see that we’re pairing it up with some of the most versatile men’s pants for a truly go-anywhere look, plus pieces like a weatherproof leather duffel bag. Things are still mighty different these days heading into fall, so perhaps this is the look to wear on a solo to-go coffee or brewery outing, or else on a socially distanced day trip (that’s where some of the best men’s boots enter the equation). At any rate, one of the best henleys for men is a surefire essential for your fall wardrobe, so let’s figure out how to wear it — shall we?

How to wear a henley for guys

Wondering how to wear a henley? Here’s how, courtesy of Todd Snyder.

Florsheim

The start of fall is well and truly in the air, you’ve got your new favorite henley on lock, and now, you know how to wear it — right? Yes indeed. A rugged henley for men is the perfect base layer for many a fall outfit, but I think we’ve taken it a step further with this particular piece from Todd Snyder. Things only get better when you layer it up with a rugged overshirt from Flint and Tinder for classic fall style — the best part is, you can add a Buck Mason field jacket if you really need it on a crisp fall day in the countryside. And we’re not just going with any old pair of pants here, either.

Some of the best men’s pants are the right move, and it’s great news that Myles Apparel makes a pair with plenty of stretch and durability (plus a classic five-pocket design). To stylishly tie it all together, how about a pair of the best men’s leather boots via FRYE? It doesn’t get much more premium than that. Whether you’re moving from the brewery to the apple orchard, you need one of the best men’s field watches — it’s a crucial way to finish off any #OOTD, this one included. Keeping it rolling on the accessories front, I’m always an advocate for stylish men’s socks like the ones seen above, and the Flint and Tinder leather belt shown here is as good as it gets, too. To finish it all off, grab your Filson duffel bag and hit the road. It’s (just about) as easy as that. Enjoy the season, my friends.

#OOTD: How to Wear Your Flint and Tinder Oxford Shirt This Season (And Beyond)

If you’ve been checking your calendar and looking at the weather forecast as obsessively as I have, you’ve probably been keeping an eye on the best menswear you need in your wardrobe. Well, you’ll be glad to know we’ve entered September, which in my mind heralds what you might call “early fall,” and the chance to, as they say, really start dressin’. That’s where one of the best Oxford shirts comes into play — in fact, you’ll notice the headline gets right down to it. Your Flint and Tinder Oxford shirt — or perhaps, the one you might want to purchase today — is the right building block for a casually cool, versatile and rugged early fall #OOTD, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Although your early fall routines might involve sidewalk dining at a brewery versus hopping around from brewery to distillery and back home, today’s ensemble works well for when you want to (safely) get out of the house in style, be it on a secluded getaway or a day trip.

And when you just feel like putting on your new favorite shirt and teaming it with a rugged chore coat and stylish five-pocket pants — plus classic leather boots? Well, you’ve got all the pieces you need to amp up your early fall day. Remember, though: It doesn’t get off the ground without your Flint and Tinder Oxford shirt from the good folks at Huckberry. Check out the full #OOTD below, then chime in on Twitter to let me know what picks you like (or dislike). Cheers!

Subtly stylish, classically cool men’s must-haves that just work for early fall.

  • The Shirt: Flint and Tinder Garment-Dyed Oxford Shirt, $88.98 — Get this Flint and Tinder shirt, one of the best Oxford shirts around, in a garment-dyed finish and a classic color. It nearly makes the entire #OOTD, does it not?
  • The Chore Coat: Flint and Tinder Chore Coat, $124.98 — The coolest chore coat on the market also happens to be made by Flint and Tinder. Dress accordingly.
  • The Pants: Buck Mason Khaki Slub Twill Officer Pants, $135 — Pleasingly casual-yet-sharp five-pocket pants in a soft cotton twill fabric. Possibly the perfect pants for early fall, in my opinion.
  • The Boots: Rhodes Dean Boots, $220 — If you haven’t yet tried the excellent Rhodes Dean Boots from the good folks at Huckberry, now’s your chance. We’re talking surprisingly rugged dress boots with a tough, flexible sole and quality design.
  • The Socks: American Trench Mil-Spec Sport Socks with Silver (4-Pack), $42.50 — Take your pick among any number of standout colors of stylish socks from American Trench. As a matter of fact, American Trench socks are my favorite on the market, and they work incredibly well for early fall.

  • The Everyday Bag: Filson Rugged Twill Padded Computer Bag, $425 — Invest in the very best with this tough everyday bag that can handle just about anything, your computer (as needed) and everyday carry essentials alongside it. If you just feel like stocking up on to-go beer for now? It can do that, too.
  • The Grooming Essential: Oars + Alps Face + Eye Cream, $22 — Start off fall on the right foot: With a nourishing, essential cream from one of the best men’s grooming brands — it’s designed to moisturize and fight aging & wrinkles on your face and around your eyes. Use the code BEAU15 to get 15 percent off your order, too.

Here we are at the tail end of another #OOTD, if you can believe it. How ready do you feel for the season ahead? Fall can be mighty unpredictable in terms of the weather and the changing seasons, so hopefully, this look gives you some options and some versatility. I don’t know much, but I do know that wearing a Flint and Tinder shirt in  casual wash and classic fit is as great a way to start a look as any. Add in the fact that Flint and Tinder also happens to make the coolest chore coat, and you’ve got a winning combination up top for your next outdoor excursion or Zoom call in equal measure. To keep the casual-yet-rugged and versatile vibes going, that’s where Buck Mason pants come into play — they’re comfortable yet tough, and essential for multiple seasons (this one included).

It all comes together nicely when you add in a pair of American Trench socks for essential seasonal style. Add in the durability of a tough everyday bag and round things out with a face and eye cream from of the best men’s grooming brands, and the season is practically yours for the taking. #OOTD: Wear This Rugged Gear for Day-to-Night Style This Season

This time of year is somewhat tricky to sort out — you see, it’s not quite the end of summer, it’s not quite early fall … so, what’s a guy to do? That’s where transitional style essentials from some of your favorite brands come into play via today’s #OOTD, which is focused on the best rugged gear for guys. Make no mistake, we’re not going too over-the-top and into flannel shirt + chore pants territory yet (although we’ll get there someday, trust me!). Instead, think of this as a sort of stepping stone from late summer into early fall, with the gear picks to match (kind of like how we talked last month about how to wear your boots for summer).

This look comes through in a similar fashion: All the building blocks are there for you to wear this look up to your cabin or on a socially distanced day trip, just as easily as you can wear it to grab an on-the-go coffee before a park picnic (don’t forget your stylish face mask, folks). The pieces that make up this look are ones you really can wear just about any time, from one of the best men’s T-shirts to a stylish denim shirt and the best men’s bomber jacket (ideal for when things do start to cool off). Naturally, pieces like versatile men’s pants will also be of service. I’ll leave the rest for you to check out below. Go right on ahead and get out there, my friends.

Subtly stylish, rugged gear picks for everyday wear right now.

mandarin woods 300x250

Who’s ready to squeeze in one last summer adventure before fall kicks in? This look can work right now, and then on into the months ahead. How so? You’re starting with the ultimate base, one of the best men’s T-shirts via the Forty Five brand, a versatile layer in its own right that can be worn individually, for starters. Of course, it can also be layered up with a stylish denim shirt from our friends at Todd Snyder. Those two pieces are truly classic men’s style essentials regardless of season, but they work particularly well right now — especially when matched up with a rugged bomber jacket for those breezy, ever-so-slightly chilly nights. Of course, stylish tapered trousers add a nice dimension of versatility and go-anywhere appeal, namely given that they’re coming from the experts at Flint and Tinder.

The rugged appeal and versatile good looks simply don’t stop, though. Rugged Chelsea boots from Red Wing Heritage deliver the goods when you need adventure-ready, tough footwear that also looks stylish and timeless as heck. To provide comfort and classic appeal in equal measure, be sure to pick up at least one pair of the Mil-Spec Sport Socks from American Trenchclassic socks with anti-microbial properties are a new must-have. To me, this look just keeps getting better, specifically when you throw on a rugged military watch for dependable, everyday style. And what’s one of the best ways to accent one of the best watches under $100? That’s easy — a rugged everyday bag from Filson ought to do the trick. So, are you feeling geared up and ready to take on whatever’s next? I sure hope so.

#OOTD: This Is How to Wear Your New Favorite Jacket for Early Fall

If it feels wild to you to be talking about how to dress for early fall, rest assured that you’re not alone. Why, just yesterday, it seemed like we were talking about how to wear chukka boots for summer or even how to style your polo for spring. With all that being said, we’re standing now in mid-August, looking toward Labor Day and the gradual shifting of the seasons. Fall is my favorite time of year, and it’s quite the chance to make your men’s style essentials work for you. That being said, today’s #OOTD covers the kind of men’s gear you can start wearing right now, and then keep wearing on into October if you accessorize correctly (or heck, even longer than that if you live in a temperate climate).

It all starts with, as you’ll see below, perhaps the the best chore coat for men — the type of piece you can grab right now and wear atop a classic T-shirt, or have handy when it comes time to layer up with one of the best transitional shirts for men (as we’ve outlined below). Mix up layers as you please for that day hike, bonfire or to-go brewery visit, because the rest of the following picks (including workwear pants and packable waterproof boots) are ready to stand up to just about anything you’ve got in mind for late summer and into early fall. The full ensemble is below, so if you like what  you see, be sure to let me know the men’s gear essentials you’re picking up — find me on Twitter. Cheers!

A rugged chore coat and other men’s style essentials to move (slowly) from one season to the next.

Believe it or not, that brings us to the end of another #OOTD. Tough to believe, right? Hopefully, you’re a little more mentally prepared for the end of summer and the start of fall (sad, I know!). But that doesn’t mean you have to stow away your summer gear entirely — in fact, plenty of these pieces can easily qualify as early fall style essentials for September and October. That goes for the centerpiece of this outfit, a rugged jacket that’s easy to wear right now with lightweight pieces (a la that excellent rugged henley from Todd Snyder), as well as classic transitional pieces — hence, the classic men’s shirt shown above, too.

These pieces are rugged and adventure-minded (go off-trail or visit your cabin in style), all thanks to the Proof Rover Pants and some of the best men’s boots, a rugged and packable pair that doesn’t miss a beat in terms of style. Because who knows what plans you’ve got in store on or off the grid these days, I’m also recommending you snag one of the toughest shoulder bags to handle your everyday carry essentials. Naturally, to make sure you stay on time through it all, a stylish everyday watch belongs on your wrist, too. We’re not done yet, folks. No sir — because it’s still summer and all, some polarized sunglasses from Raen Optics are going to come in handier than you might think. While ending summer can be a bit of a bummer, it brings with it the promise of one of the best seasons for menswear: Fall! We’ll be right here at The Style Guide every step of the way to help you out.
