The details make the difference with every Flint and Tinder offering.

And as you know with Flint and Tinder, it’s the normally overlooked things that set these slim light wash jeans apart from the pack. Of course, there’s the quality fit — slim but not too restrictive, complete with room to move. And there’s the material — cotton with 1 percent stretch. Then, there’s the fact that the Flint and Tinder Light Wash Jeans are cut, sewn & finished in Los Angeles, quickly becoming a denim hotbed.

Of course, the pleasing stone wash gives them what the brand calls a “lived-in look and feel” — this means they could become your new favorite denim right out of the box. And that easy wearability gives you a ton of options as far as styling them. Heck, wearing the Flint and Tinder Light Wash Jeans with a slub tee and suede chukka boots is about as good as it gets for summer happy hour style. And of course, the Flint and Tinder Light Wash Jeans can be worn on an easygoing day at the office with an American-made Oxford and … yes, you guessed it … classic suede chukka boots. The Friday Read: The Best New Chinos, George Dickel Whisky & Bonnaroo

The dependable and trail-ready shorts you need for a summer weekend.

If it’s a summer weekend — which it most definitely is — then you need a pair of functional, adventure-ready shorts. You need the Coalatree Trailhead Shorts, in fact; they’ll take you anywhere you need to go, from a music festival to a brewery and everywhere in between. Are you packing up these stylish shorts?

The Best Basics. Summer Ready.

For me, what I’m packing and wearing this weekend has perhaps never been more critical — I’m heading down South to the revered Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival for the first time ever! The occasion, of course, is none other than a Saturday night festival concert by my favorite band (yes, THE NATIONAL) as they play tracks from their new album “I Am Easy To Find,” plus old favorites. I’m seriously so thrilled and excited to be able to make this trip; although I was hesitant in years past to head to The ‘Roo (the camping element makes things difficult), the introduction of one-day passes means I’ll be able to spend some time exploring Nashville (as I did in a previous September 2017 trip) while also looking forward to some standout music from my favorite band — and plenty others, including indie rock luminaries Hippo Campus. To follow along with all the fun, join me on Instagram, or else check out my Twitter. And for now, let’s get your own weekend started the right way — with my Friday Read picks below — cheers!

  • For my friends at The Manual, I covered your new favorite chinos from Bonobos — they’re made from organic cotton, and in an agreeable & tailored fit. How can it get any better than that, right? Wear them with classic suede chukka boots and a slim navy polo any day of the week.
  • So, Father’s Day is getting shockingly close — and we likely all know what it’s like to have a dad or father figure who’s tricky to shop for (especially if he’s got a more off-the-beaten-path hobby like indulging in rare whiskey). On that note, I covered the excellent George Dickel Bottled-in-Bond Whisky for GearMoose — get ready to taste the best whiskey you didn’t know you needed, in short.
  • We mentioned above about the slim navy polo you need to wear with your new Bonobos chinos — well, my friends, one of the best men’s polos for summer can be found in my post about the new Wellen Hemp Polo. If you missed this post last week, read up accordingly now. Cheers!

See Now, Buy Now: Flint and Tinder’s Vintage Boardshorts are the Perfect Swim Trunks for Summer

The best men’s swim trunks on the market? Sure thing.

If you don’t yet have a pair of the best men’s swim trunks, well, check your calendar — it’s time to get on that, and before you pack for your next beach trip, at that. Luckily for you and me both, the Flint and Tinder Vintage Boardshorts are here to save the day, offering up USA-made style and dependability, just like they used to make ’em in the old days. That’s the refreshing thing about gear you get from Huckberry — this is gear made the right way, and made for plenty of situations; helpfully, that means the Flint and Tinder Vintage Boardshorts perform like your new favorite swim trunks, yet fit like a proper pair of tailored shorts (as Huckberry says, that makes ’em sharp enough for a post-swim happy hour). And like other gear from Flint and Tinder, including the brand’s perfect T-shirts and essential denim, they’re made to last to exacting standards — that’s great news if you enjoy catching some waves (or just catching some Z’s on the beach, at any rate).

Shop Mott & Bow Today!

One of two standout colors on tap this season.

It starts with the fabric when it comes to the Flint and Tinder Vintage Boardshorts — it’s abrasion-resistant, four-ply nylon fabric that makes these stylish boardshorts so functional, and a soft nylon interior lining sets them apart in that regard, too. A cotton drawcord provides both durability and a perfect fit, while a rear back pocket with grommet means that water drains easily. And those are just the specs you need this summer — don’t think twice about throwing on the Flint and Tinder Vintage Boardshorts to head to the beach, and then to head to the beach bar after. The real kicker? You can pick up these essential men’s boardshorts in two colors, including the Indigo and Sky Blue option shown above. All the bells and whistles here are covered — meet your new favorite swim shorts, folks.

#OOTD: How to Wear White Sneakers This Summer

You could say a pair of classic white sneakers is akin to a true summer style essential, something that can be worn every day and in nearly every single style situation. So with that variety of options, how is anyone to say what the best way to wear white sneakers could be? Well, I’d like to give it a shot with today’s #OOTD, here just in time for summer weekends aplenty. We’re starting out with SeaVees canvas sneakers, a more casual pair that you should feel free to utilize in off-duty style situations galore, from a long weekend away to a lazy brunch at your favorite farm-to-table restaurant. You’ll note the rest of the #menswear picks below give this outfit a similar go-anywhere vibe, from the rugged denim shirt to a classic slub tee — think easy-to-wear summer weekend style. We top it all off with slim, lightweight chinos and of course, a VAER Watches timepiece for maximum versatility. From grabbing beers with the guys to grabbing a coffee with your partner on a breezy summer Saturday, this is the best way to wear white sneakers this summer. Or at least, I think it is. Get the full scoop below!

Start with classic white sneakers, then add more casual pieces this summer.

The amazing thing about a pair of sneakers — in fact, your new favorite sneakers — is the variety of ways in which they can be worn, even just beyond this #OOTD. Here, as we mentioned, we’re keeping things much more casual with a denim shirt and of course, an essential, made-in-America T-shirt from Huckberry. Pieces like slim, lightweight chinos give this ensemble a bit of a more polished feel, as at ease strolling around the park as when worn to your favorite coffee shop — similarly, a pair of the best men’s sunglassses add some polish & instant cool. This outfit is casual but subtly stylish, all the better when it comes time to leave your house for the day (or early evening). And if you fancy loading up your laptop and getting some work done on the weekends, well, a durable Filson bag fits right in with the more rugged confines of this look. You can also never go wrong with a stylish leather watch — especially if you’re headed to a BBQ or rooftop happy hour. If you’re sensing a theme here, it’s that classic white sneakers can be worn nearly any way you can dream up. Be sure to use some Duke Cannon face lotion to keep your skin sharp and at its best, too. Again, classic white sneakers really don’t mess around when it comes time to step out in style. Have any thoughts on this ensemble? Let me know on Twitter. Thanks for reading!

Style Pick of the Week: Outerknown BBQ Shirt

The perfect blend of style and casual cool for summer.

Is there a more fittingly named short-sleeve shirt for summer than the Outerknown BBQ Shirt? Perhaps not — but I’ll let you be the judge of that. Finding one of the best short-sleeve shirts for the warmer months can be a tall order; some are too baggy and overly loud, some are too slim or not breathable enough. And yet, the Outerknown BBQ Shirt is far from that, combining the laidback cool that you need for your next BBQ with the sort of refinement that makes it easy to wear beneath a classic cotton blazer at your next summer wedding (a little style hack there for you). The Outerknown BBQ Shirt comes to you from a favorite brand here at The Style Guide (perhaps you recognize this post on how to get a discount at Outerknown, in fact). From the mind of legendary surfer Kelly Slater and designer John Moore sprang a new lifestyle brand that encompassed the surf-ready nature of Slater’s background and the A-plus designs chops of John Moore — plus, a serious commitment to sustainability. All of this is to say, the Outerknown BBQ Shirt is made with durable, breathable hemp and organic cotton — a one-of-a-kind blend that makes this a pinnacle of sustainable menswear.

SHOP: The Outerknown BBQ Shirt

The small details set this shirt apart, easily.

Again, if you want a shirt that toes the line between too dressy and too casual, this stylish short-sleeve shirt really is the way to go. Witness the durable, pleasingly refined corozo buttons — no shoddy plastic white buttons here, folks. Plus, the breathable construction is deisgned not to cling to your body, no matter how hot it gets around the grill. And when worn the right way (I.E. With a lightweight cotton blazer), you could easily team this shirt up with slim stone chinos and leather loafers for a sharp-yet-casual Friday of travel or meetings. The hits really keep coming with the Outerknown BBQ Shirt, as we say — in this case, the shirt itself is printed on the interior for a look out of the box that mimics your favorite broken-in T-shirt. In total, it’s one of the cooler shirts your author has seen in some time; that means you’re liable to be one of the only people (the only person!?) at your next get-together wearing it. All that remains is for you to grab a six-pack of your favorite beer and get to where you need to go.  With the Outerknown BBQ Shirt, it’s more than possible.

And if you still need more of the best gear for summer, well, click right through that hyperlink.

OK, now onto business — what’s on your weekend agenda? For me, it’s a rather packed one in Brooklyn — tonight marks the second night in a row I’ll be at my favorite music venue in NYC, the famed Brooklyn Steel! The occasion? A second show in a row by my second-favorite band, Local Natives! If you recall, I trekked to Portland earlier this spring to see this excellent indie rock band play a barnburner of a show behind the new album “Violet Street,” and I even met lead singer Taylor Rice out in PDX! And, last night was the first of a two-night run showing off those same tracks in Brooklyn, and with a varied setlist and stellar live sound, it was everything I thought it would be! So, if you want to follow along with tonight’s fun, join me on Instagram. The rest of my weekend is set to include a fun craft beer tour by bike with friends in Queens — and hopefully, some rest & some work on my Instagram! Again, if you care to join me on another social media platform, it’s appreciated. Now, I’ve got some work to do before the weekend. Cheers!

With that, I’ll be closing up shop for the weekend (well, until tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week, at least). Until then, I’d urge you to shop for your perfect summer T-shirt, or else find your new favorite pair of summer shoes. That’s all I’ve got today! Cheers.

See Now, Buy Now: The Wellen Hemp Polo Is the Best Polo for Summer

A breathable, sustainable, stylish polo to wear all summer long.

It’s pretty simple, at least in my mind: Wellen, the in-house brand from our friends at Huckberry that’s focused on both sustainability and style, is making the best new polo for summer 2021 as of right now, and that’s a fact. That’s certainly high praise, but as one would expect from the fine folks at Huckberry, it’s praise that can easily be backed up by the Wellen Hemp Polo.

It all starts with the use of both hemp and organic cotton, creating a unique fabric blend that’s breathable and yet not flimsy — that’s critical if you’re looking for versatility in your summer polo (I.E. The type of polo that can be worn on its own or underneath a classic cotton blazer or a rugged denim trucker jacket). The variety of colors shown here is also an asset — take your pick among options like Washed Navy (seen below) or a very James Bond-esque Black.

SHOP: The Wellen Hemp Polo
Shop Mott & Bow Today!

The Wellen Hemp Polo can even be dressed up, if you please — try it with tan chinos and leather loafers at the office, or wear it in a more laidback fashion with durable field shorts and white vintage-inspired trainers. It’s kind of like an upgraded take on your favorite T-shirt in terms of style and versatility, as it were.

A personal favorite option in terms of color and style.

Yes indeed, the Wellen Hemp Polo is among the best men’s polos you can pick up, particularly if you’re concerned with treating the environment with as much care as you approach your wardrobe (both should be priorities!). So, the fabric is a bonus and the fit is easygoing-yet-versatile — what’s not to love, right? Wellen is a brand that’s easy to love across the board, all thanks to a combination of organic, recycled and also Bluesign-certified fabrics, plus production focused on sustainable and ethical factories (that goes for the brand’s denim as well as pieces like the Wellen Stretch Chore Coat). Those are huge bonuses in my mind — and again, don’t forget that the Wellen Hemp Polo assuredly reigns supreme among other polos on its own merits, fabric and sustainability aside. So, are you going to add the Wellen Hemp Polo to your wardrobe this summer? There’s no time to waste.

Just getting back into the dating game (or still hanging in there?), and wondering what to wear on your next coffee date? Or, looking for a way to switch up your dating routine — in style? Today’s #OOTD has you covered. We’ll start things off with a versatile denim jacket from Taylor Stitch, and then go from there. Depending on where you live — even neighborhood by neighborhood here in Brooklyn — maybe you’ve got a favorite coffee shop; maybe, you’ve also got a partner (or a new potential partner!) who’s a coffee aficionado. Thus, hit up that coffee shop, dive into your favorite coffee, listen to some amazing music, and enjoy yourself — dressed in style, of course. It’s a casual, laidback setting that still requires you put your best foot forward, and today’s menswear essentials certainly reflect that.
MenloNR 728x90
Since it’s likely a weekend date, we’re going with casual, cool picks that exude versatility and confidence — nothing too fancy, nothing too over-the-top. I think you’ll find this is the sort of outfit you can mix and match — switch out the classic Oxford shirt for a chambray shirt or a stylish graphic tee, if you feel so inclined. Just remember: Confidence often starts with what you’re wearing and how you’re feeling — dress accordingly, and good luck out there!

We threw a lot at you there, from a stylish outerwear upgrade to some new grooming essentials — how do you feel? Ready for that coffee date? The key is dressing for the occasion in a way that’s authentic and true to you — leave the dress shirt at home, and instead, switch things up with the best denim jacket on the market and corresponding gear that’s laidback, cool & ready for — perhaps a second date. In that case, I’m talking about a classic Oxford shirt and tan chinos, plus stylish chukka boots— to me, these are the building blocks of an outfit that’s going to look great nearly anywhere (and they let your personality do the talking, crucially). Accessories like an eye-catching solar-powered watch and a durable Filson brief are nice touches to add to this #OOTD. And because grooming is so critical, the Bespoke Post Lather Box is the perfect way to clean up your stubble or your beard — of course, a date all starts with how you prepare, and Duke Cannon’s Big Ass Beer Soap is one way to feel refreshed and smell great on the daily (coffee date included). See Now, Buy Now: The Danner Caprine Boots are the Boots You Need for Your Next Summer Adventure

The dependable and durable boots to wear all summer — yes, even in the summer.

Although summer might at first call to mind sandy beaches and lazy days on the lake, it can also be a time of adventure — music festivals, craft beer tastings, whiskey distillery tours … and plenty of stylish exploration on foot. And that, my friends, is where the Danner Caprine Boots come into play, merging comfort and quality with dependability. They’re some of the best men’s boots you can buy this summer — and they make a strong case for the fact that you needn’t shelve your favorite pair of boots just ‘cuz the weather warms up.

Shop contemporary and independent label men's and women's fashion at Need Supply Co. Click Here!

We’ve long been a fan of Danner boots here on the blog, namely for the Pacific Northwest brand’s take on heritage and quality — all done up in modern ways, too. In the case of the Danner Caprine Boots, it starts with unique nubuck leather blended with an abrasion-resistant textile upper, the sort of lightweight combination that’s going to take on breezy summer days and nights, leaf-strewn trails and muddy music festivals with ease.

The unique color schemes of the Danner Caprine Boots make them a style winner.

SHOP: The Danner Caprine Boots

These are a pair of rugged leather boots that are actually easy to wear, without any clunky silhouette in sight. That’s due in part to the sleek-yet-functional design, capped off with a sole tread based on the hooves of mountain goats — yes, you read that right. There’s really no pair on the market quite like the Danner Caprine Boots, right down to the fact that the footbed is made of an open-cell polyurethane material. That means it’s both recycled and also super breathable, all the better to keep you cool at a craft beer festival or an outdoor concert for hours on end.

Shop Mott & Bow Today!

You’re also getting the versatility only Danner can provide — pair up the Danner Caprine Boots with a stylish slub tee and light wash jeans, or pair them up with slim tan chinos, a white Oxford shirt and an indigo denim jacket for a full weekend day on the go (from brunch to the farmer’s market to a brewery). And at that aforementioned music festival? They’ll work with black denim and a rugged short-sleeve henley from the time the gates open to when the sun goes down.  In short, the Danner Caprine Boots can really do it all when it comes to summer adventures — but you likely already knew that, right?
