See Now, Buy Now: The Black Sub Watch from Vague Watch Co. Is Your Next Style Upgrade

Inspired by the Rolex Submariner, this pleasingly rugged, versatile timepiece could become an everyday go-to.

Our See Now, Buy Now series here on The Style Guide covers a lot of ground — we’re continuing that today with a durable timepiece that could maybe, just maybe … become your new favorite everyday watch. Give thanks for that on this day, of all days (Happy Thanksgiving, by the way!). But back to the business at hand. We’re talking about the exceptional Vague Watch Co. Black Sub Watch from our friends at Huckberry, a heck of a stylish casual watch with plenty in the way of functionality. Adding to a growing (or just-starting) watch collection can be a daunting task, what with the need to seemingly fill so many different categories in terms of your everyday watch. Luckily for the watch lovers and novice collectors among us, the Vague Watch Co. Black Sub Watch makes things substantially easier. For one, the Black Sub Watch from Vague Watch Co. has that elusive blend of rugged good looks and straightforward style. In short, it’s an easy-to-wear accessory alongside more casual outfits (think a slim shawl collar cardigan and classic blue denim) or more business casual ensembles (including a classic winter blazer).

And the Black Sub Watch draws quite helpfully on a style that’s still just as wearable now as it was decades ago — the Rolex Submariner. Yet … it’s far, far more accessible in terms of price. Again, those style points are just critical, though. The Black Sub Watch can be worn day in and day out — that’s the sort of versatility you need when building a watch collection, my friends. That unique wearability even extends to the strap on the Black Sub Watch. It comes packaged with either a natural leather strap or a black NATO strap, a  two-for-one deal that only helps you look better in more style situations. You can wear the Black Sub Watch from Vague Watch Co. out for beers with buddies as easily as you can wear it to the office with an American-made Oxford — if that doesn’t qualify as your favorite everyday watch, I’m not sure what does.

Are you a fan of the Black Sub Watch from Vague Watch Co. ? Let me know if you’ll be picking it up as a post-Thanksgiving or Black Friday treat!

See Now, Buy Now: Corridor NYC’s Indigo Overshirt is Your New Go-To Layer

The perfect fall layer? Very nearly. Easy to wear with a classic henley, a chambray shirt, some slim denim … you’re all good to go.

Follow me, Style Guide readers — today, we’re taking you through Corridor NYC and specifically, the brand’s stellar, stylish and rugged Duck-Dyed Indigo Overshirt. Previously seen in one of our fall style editions of The List — featuring rugged style essentials galore, the Corridor NYC Duck-Dyed Indigo Overshirt is a one-of-a-kind layering piece that’s perfect for what lies ahead this season (and beyond, of course). Corridor NYC has deep roots in the city, with a focus on production in Manhattan itself — that’s pretty cool, and it helps make the Duck-Dyed Indigo Overshirt a unique offering in terms of construction. For instance: The clay-colored corozo buttons are even hand-dyed in the Big Apple. Make no mistake though, this isn’t a beefy jacket that you can’t move around in; in fact, it’s perhaps the opposite.  The Duck-Dyed Indigo Overshirt is also made from — you guessed it — indigo-dyed canvas that’s enzyme-washed for softness. If you wanted a jacket to layer over a rugged henley, the Corridor NYC Duck-Dyed Indigo Overshirt should be your next purchase. And if you want a jacket that can do a little bit more than your average overshirt? The Duck-Dyed Indigo Overshirt is the way to go.

The reliable fit — easy to layer over a classic chambray shirt, and just as easy to slide on under your favorite topcoat — also makes the Corridor NYC Duck-Dyed Indigo Overshirt a winning pick-up. You simply don’t see too many classically styled, American-made jackets like this one anymore. It complements the rest of the Corridor NYC outerwear offering, too — need a piece to layer under one of the brand’s Waxed M-65 Jackets? The Duck-Dyed Indigo Overshirt is the way to go, my friends.  It’ll work just as well now as it well in the chilly early days of spring, especially when you throw it on over one of the best men’s T-shirts as you sprint out grab a coffee (OK, maybe “sprint” is the wrong word there). At any rate, the Corridor NYC Duck-Dyed Indigo Overshirt can do a heck of a lot when it comes to reliable style. Wear it with your favorite dark blue denim and a pair of classic leather boots for fall and winter style that’s essential & remarkably easy to wear … well, anywhere. Let me know in the comments if the Corridor NYC Duck-Dyed Indigo Overshirt is going to be making its way into your shopping cart!

See Now, Buy Now: The Billy Reid Charlie Sportcoat Is The Perfect Fall Blazer

Billy Reid Charlie Sportcoat

A well-made sportcoat from a classic American designer. Not a bad pick-up in advance of cold weather.

Is it a tall order to claim that something’s the perfect item of menswear in a certain category? Sure it is. But when it comes to the Billy Reid Charlie Sportcoat, well … it really just might BE the perfect fall blazer.  What makes the Charlie Sportcoat a surefire winner — and the latest entry in our See Now, Buy Now series? Oh, man — plenty of positives. The Billy Reid Charlie Sportcoat manages to harness what the brand does best. That is, the Charlie Sportcoat takes a classic American sensibility and blends it with easygoing styling potential — this is the type of blazer you can wear with slim dark blue jeans and classic suede boots, or with tailored wool trousers and an American-made Oxford in equal measure. That type of versatility can be hard to find in a sportcoat, but the design of the Charlie Sportcoat just lends itself to wearability, no matter the situation. Casual day at the office? Throw it on over a rugged henley.  Big meeting? Dress it up with a chambray dress shirt. See? The Billy Reid Charlie Sportcoat is even better than you thought.

And the construction of this stylish blazer is exactly what you need when it comes to cold-weather layering. The blend of premium virgin wool and polyester means that you’re going to stay warm and comfortable all day long. What’s more, the Charlie Sportcoat is unstructured and features front flap pockets, both touches that make it more casual in nature. Now, here’s the catch — like other gear from Billy Reid, you’re going to have to pony up some cash to get this classic blazer … nearly $600 (gulp). Is it worth that investment? Considering that you can wear this jacket a ton of different ways all throughout the work week (and even to a stylish Sunday brunch) … I’d have to say yes. Yes, indeed! Let me know via The Style Guide Facebook page if the Billy Reid Charlie Sportcoat is going to be hanging in your closet soon.

See Now, Buy Now: Gear Up and Hit the Road with Taylor Stitch’s Moto Pant in Dyneema Denim

One heck of a pair of pants — ready for anything. Pre-fund them now via Taylor Stitch, folks.

Don’t let that image at the top of the page scare you — the Taylor Stitch Moto Pant in Dyneema Denim is a pair of moto jeans that’s easily wearable even if you don’t own a motorcycle or ride off-road. In fact, the Moto Pants in Dyneema Denim are a sufficiently cool, rugged way to upgrade your dark blue denim with style and functionality. As any loyal Style Guide reader knows, Taylor Stitch consistently kills it on all fronts in the menswear game, and the brand’s Moto Collection only ups the ante even further. For you and me both, that means you’ve got more gear to add to your list of men’s style essentials. Packed with hits like the beautiful Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket (as seen in a previous See Now, Buy Now entry), the Moto Collection is also home to the Moto Pants in Dyneema Denim — and they’re a sufficient supporting accessory, to say the least. It starts with the road-ready Dyneema fabric, known as the “world’s strongest fabric” and comprising more than 50 percent of the Taylor Stitch Moto Pants.

In short, that makes for a pair of trousers that blend the look of a pair of classic dark blue jeans with the durability of the outdoors-minded Taylor Stitch Camp Pants, for instance. In short, that means you can take the Taylor Stitch Moto Pants just about anywhere you’d like this winter, from a grueling hike to a less-taxing stroll through the snow to your favorite craft beer bar (that’s probably how I’d wear mine, at least). Front slash pockets leave you with plenty of room to haul your everyday carry essentials for hours at a time, too. On the styling front, I’d freely layer up with a rugged henley and a stylish field jacket for chilly fall and winter days. And you can even throw on a stylish vest, plus suede lace-up boots and perhaps a rugged crewneck sweater, for easygoing-yet-durable style. Of course, rugged leather boots are an essential with a pair of pants as outdoor-minded as the Taylor Stitch Moto Pants, too. And with a price tag of nearly $250, I’d urge you to find as many ways as possible to break out the Moto Pants in Dyneema Denim — but you’d better pre-fund them now. Right? Glad we’re on the same page.

Are you pre-fundig the  Taylor Stitch Moto Pants in Dyneema Denim? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter!

See Now, Buy Now: Invest in the Rancourt & Co. Wolf Boots for Your Next Fall Adventure

A dependable, durable pair of Horween leather boots finished with a Vibram rubber sole — Rancourt & Co. knows how to make ’em the right way.

Over the past few weeks here at The Style Guide, we’ve admittedly talked a ton about rugged fall style, from the best men’s boots to durable outerwear to stylish fall shirting — but we’ve got more on the way today. Our latest recommendation when it comes to dependable fall style? The investment-quality, USA-made Rancourt & Co. Wolf Boots, available in time to close out fall and head into early winter (gulp) in style. An exclusive made just for Huckberry to commemorate the brand’s 50th anniversary, the Wolf Boots from Rancourt & Co. are made to last at least that long (no matter how hard you wear  ’em).  The brand has certainly pulled out all the stops to craft a one-of-a-kind pair of boots, starting with Chromexcel bark-tanned leather and finishing with handcrafted construction by the Rancourt team. We’d be remiss not to mention the waxed laces and metal eyelets, too. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though.

Just like the Rancourt & Co. Carson Low Sneakers — a fitting pair of fall kicks in their own right — the Wolf Boots are as easy to wear during the work week as they are on the weekend. With details like Blake welt construction and cap toe stitching for durability, you can be sure they can take a beating. The Vibram rubber mini lug sole also provides grip and toughness to brave the elements this fall and winter. I’d wear them with a rugged overshirt and slim black denim to head to a brewery — a favorite pursuit of mine. For day trips and fall or winter hikes, the Rancourt & Co. Wolf Boots are also going to take you the distance.  Even during the work week, the Wolf Boots should be in your rotation. Now, maybe your closet is already packed full of tough boots … but it can’t hurt to add one pair, can it? Not when that pair is as stylish, dependable and well-made as the Rancourt & Co. Wolf Boots.

Will these Rancourt & Co. boots be heading your way soon? How would you style them?

See Now, Buy Now: The Grayers Newport Chinos Are Your New Everyday Pants

A finely crafted pair of chinos available for a solid price from Grayers.

There’s never a wrong time or place to wear a pair of classic men’s chinos, right? Particularly when that pair of chinos just happens to be the Grayers Newport Chinos, yes? Yes, indeed. Whether in the middle of fall, early winter, late spring or late summer, stylish men’s chinos just work when it comes to men’s style essentials  — and that’s good enough for another entry in our ongoing See Now, Buy Now series as we move into November. With their roots in post-war functionality — G.I.’s wore chinos en masse after World War II upon returning home to the States — the classic chino features durable cotton fabric and a neutral tan (khaki) color, kind of like the Grayers Newport Chinos you see here. So, there’s a  bit of #menswear history to go with the stellar, easily wearable style you get from Grayers. The brand does a nice job taking classic staples and making them cool and casual; in this case, that means the Grayers Newport Chinos fit nicely and move well, thanks to the cotton-elastane blend. And helpfully, that should make the Newport Chinos the ideal pair of pants to wear for your next fall road trip — or just your next day at the office.  Simply sharpen up your look with stylish men’s dress shoes and an American-made Oxford, my friends.

With a simple-yet-crisp design and a slim fit (plus plenty of sizes available as of post time), the Grayers Newport Chinos are a reliably stylish addition to many a fall (and winter!) style ensemble. Wear them to your next tailgate with one of fall’s best jackets — just add stylish leather sneakers — or take them for a spin with a striped henley, a rugged denim trucker jacket and the Wolverine 1000 Mile Boots.  Keep them on hand to wear with a rugged shawl-collar cardigan and a classic indigo shirt jacket, too. The hearty construction and durability of the Grayers Newport Chinos lends this pair to repeated wear through winter, too. Your favorite topcoat and a classic cold-weather blazer are the perfect foil to an easily wearable pair of stylish men’s chinos — at least, your Style Guide author thinks so. Let me know in the comments — how many pairs of stylish men’s chinos do you own? Will you be doubling down with the Grayers Newport Chinos this season?

See Now, Buy Now: The Techne Merlin Watch is the Casual Timepiece You Need

Techne

The durable, stylish and understated watch you need on your wrist this fall.

If you, like me, are constantly on the lookout for ways to add to your stylish watch collection, you’ll certainly find today’s See Now, Buy Now entry of use. We’ve talked about the rugged outerwear you need for fall, and we even talked about stylish leather boots for the season … but what about a tough, durable and yet good-looking casual watch that can take a beating and still look sharp? That’s the Techne Merlin Watch, my friends.  Now, it’s rare to find a watch that speaks so specifically to a certain season. Yet, the Merlin Watch from Techne is the sort of timepiece you’re going to want on your wrist as you head on weekend trips, dress for your next tailgate or generally enjoy the bounty of fall and winter (looking at you, my IPA and stout-loving friends).

The Techne Merlin Watch certainly has plenty of rugged, fall-friendly style going for it. Inspired by old-school pilot’s watches — along with the engines on the P-51 Mustang fighter jet — you can be sure that there’s not quite a timepiece out there like the Techne Merlin Watch. From the brushed stainless steel case to the simple, sharp 39.5mm case diameter of the Merlin Watch, it’s a unique timepiece in every aspect of the word. Add in a durable ballistic nylon strap in a shade of cool gray, and you’re set when it comes to understated, classically inspired style. Yes indeed, the Techne Merlin Watch is a reliable accessory in plenty of laidback situations.

Wear it when heading to a rock concert with a rugged striped henley and a denim trucker jacket, or team it with another one of the best fall jackets out there — an overshirt, a bomber … you name it, the Techne Merlin Watch is the ideal casual timepiece for fall and winter. Heck, you could even wear it with a cotton blazer and a classic crewneck sweater — plus tan chinos — on a particularly casual day at the office. Did I mention the Merlin Watch from Techne clocks in at well under $200? I don’t know if can get any better.

Let me know in the comments — will you be buying the Merlin Watch from Techne
