See Now, Buy Now: This Rugged Line of Trade Chore Jacket Is a Prime Fall Layering Move from Bespoke Post

Best chore jackets for men to buy this fal

As you join me in scouring the market for the best autumnal menswear, keep in mind that versatility and utility can go hand in hand with rugged style points aplenty. There’s a reason we keep saying it’s the best season for menswear, what with its rich potential for layering, dependable fashion and plain old good looks — and if your wardrobe leans more casual for seasonal getaways aplenty, then one of the best chore coats, especially one from my good friends at Bespoke Post and Line of Trade, can assuredly deliver the goods.

You very well might be surprised at how much wear you can get out of a piece like the Line of Trade Cooper Chore Coat, a newfound favorite from the in-house Americana brand at Bespoke Post.

Crafted for the modern man who’s as at ease at home in the city or at a downtown cocktail bar as he is strolling along wooded trails during a cabin getaway, the handsome and utterly stylish Line of Trade Cooper Chore Coat is also a downright steal at just about $70 right now.

Yes indeed, compared to other style selections on the market that echo similar style and craftsmanship, the hard-working Line of Trade Cooper Chore Coat takes the cake as far as the best chore coats for men are concerned. With the Line of Trade Cooper Chore Coat, it starts, as always, with the fabrication and construction. Broken-in 100 percent soft-washed cotton construction gives it a true lived-in look and feel, especially in a classic shade of military-inspired olive.

That colorway means the Line of Trade Cooper Chore Coat should wear well with everything from deep blue indigo jeans to light tan or rust chinos, and grey canvas work pants and trusty Blundstone leather boots should deliver the style points you need on the go.

Three patch pockets, including one with a helpful button at the chest, provide critical everyday carry storage space, while the foldover collar is a classic touch you can use to fight back against fall breezes when layered over a thermal henley or a durable chambray shirt. For completely reliable and utterly classic style you can certainly trust, the Line of Trade Cooper Chore Coat gets the job done — and then some, my friends.

The Sunday Sale: Score Savings of 50 Percent On This Iconic Eddie Bauer 1936 Skyliner Jacket

Eddie Bauer 1936 Skyliner Jacket review.

It’s often a wise bet to rely on tried-and-true, heritage staples in your men’s style rotation — the type of pieces that never really go out of fashion, that serve a truly functional purpose and that, yes, tend to look pretty darn cool at the right moment.

The Eddie Bauer 1936 Skyliner Jacket fits that mold quite nicely, in my book, with roots dating back to, well, 1936 — original iterations of the jacket were created for alpine explorers, and here at lower elevation, it remains one of the best bomber jackets for men. In fact, the Eddie Bauer Skyliner Jacket is such a seriously cool piece that modern Americana menswear masters Buck Mason teamed up with Eddie Bauer last year on an update to the silhouette.

Talk about true style pedigree, and current editions of the Eddie Bauer 1936 Skyliner Jacket are still very much worthy of your consideration — especially when on sale (more on that in a moment).

It’s an upgrade in terms of looks from a more streamlined (yet no less useful) puffer jacket, which you might commonly wear on the slopes or on the trail. But within the confines of the Eddie Bauer sale section, you’ll find a truly legendary piece of outerwear, one that merges old-school roots with modern materials.

And right now, my friends, the Eddie Bauer 1936 Skyliner Jacket is on sale for about 50 percent off. Yes sir, 50 percent off — not a bad way to refresh your fall and winter outerwear, ehh?

The Eddie Bauer 1936 Skyliner Jacket gets all the specs right in terms of durability, using 650-fill power premium down in a durable diamond-quilted design for just the right amount of warmth. In my experience, the Skyliner Jacket wears comfortably over a wool sweater or a thermal henley without overdoing it.

More crucial right now in the autumn cold is the fact that this jacket uses ribbed knitting at the collar, cuffs and hem for a secure fit and added warmth. And its classic fit means you can comfortably layer the Eddie Bauer 1936 Skyliner Jacket without feeling too constricted. It hits on the right notes in terms of for, and function, thanks to neutral colors like Black, Mushroom and Spruce.

Those earth tones are all the better to style it with shades ranging from chambray blue shirting to black jeans and even light tan stretch chinos. It’s suitable for camping trips and the trail, as well as fall lakeside outings (as I paired up with my Eddie Bauer 1936 Skyliner Jacket last autumn). And once again, this modern iteration of a famed jacket is now 50 percent off — sounds to me like it’s the right time to layer up in style, my friends.

See Now, Buy Now: Flint and Tinder’s Latest Quilted Jacket is Made for Shoulder Season

Flint and Tinder men's jackets.

Ahh, yes: Shoulder season. The term given as a nickname for fall or autumn by those who love layering up with the finest menswear essentials, outerwear and more. And it’s as fine a term as any to give to the best time in the menswear pantheon, as the crisp temperatures of fall lend themselves quite nicely to throwing on, say, the new Flint and Tinder Jackson Quilted Jacket.

Already known for crafting some of the hardest-wearing, toughest outerwear on the market via Huckberry, Flint and Tinder goes in a slightly different direction with its latest release.

The Flint and Tinder Jackson Quilted Jacket riffs on both the puffer jacket and the shirt jacket in its hybrid style, which Huckberry says “combines classic style with modern functionality.” If looks are to be believed, the company is once again right on the money.

The Flint and Tinder Jackson Quilted Jacket boasts all the hallmarks of one of the best shirt jackets for men, from the easy-access snap front to the oversized snap button chest pockets. Even its side pockets snap shut for added everyday carry storage, and the nylon exterior is water-resistant for an added shot of performance.

As to be expected in its name, the Flint and Tinder Jackson Quilted Jacket is built out with 80-gram recycled polyester fill for warmth that’s also easy to move around in — or layer atop another rugged Flint and Tinder buttondown, for instance.

Helpfully in matters of style, the Flint and Tinder Jackson Quilted Jacket comes in a series of rich seasonal colors, like Dark Forest or Brick. Each would pair up easily with an natural-colored henley and indigo jeans, or else with a plaid flannel buttondown and Flint and Tinder’s famed 365 Pants.

It’s a quick, easy-on, easy-off layer with a refined shirt collar design that elevates the traditional puffer jacket in stylish, rugged fashion, and those touches make the new Flint and Tinder Jackson Quilted Jacket a must-buy for the weeks and months ahead.

See Now, Buy Now: This Rugged Flint and Tinder Rancher Jacket Is Your New Go-To Fall Layer

Flint and Tinder waxed jackets for men.

By now, I’d bet you’re used to scouring the pages of one of the best online menswear brands — that’d be Huckberry — to find the most rugged, coolest gear on the planet. The company’s in-house Flint and Tinder line is a key part of that equation, of course.

And while it might seem impossible to up the ante when it comes to Flint and Tinder waxed jackets, that’s precisely what the iconic retailer has done with the Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Quilted Waxed Rancher Jacket.

It plays off the brand’s penchant for using the finest materials to deliver uniquely tough menswear, the kind that takes a beating and keeps on going. And with the Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Quilted Waxed Rancher, it does the seemingly impossible.

Flint and Tinder Waxed Rancher Jacket.

It improves upon the already-exceptional Flint and Tinder Waxed Trucker Jacket, using rugged, heavier 10oz. Martexin waxed sailcloth fabric and a new, hard-working fit and design.

Available in four rich and classic colors (including Dark Oak, Charcoal and Field Tan), the Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Quilted Waxed Rancher boasts durable exterior fabrication and a quilted, flannel-lined interior (as the name implies) for maximum warmth. To say it’s a jacket that’s hard to beat is quite apt indeed.

Best of all is the fact that this remarkable jacket is made in the USA and boasts helpful details like two button-front EDC chest pockets and angled hip pockets with rounded exterior stitching. Those pockets should provide crucial storage space for any essentials you need to keep on hand, and it doesn’t hurt that the contrast flannel lining is a richly crafted, stylish pattern, too.

If you ask me, I’d say the Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Quilted Waxed Rancher is going to give your rotation of the best waxed jackets a run for its money this season (and beyond). Shop accordingly, my friends.

See Now, Buy Now: Buck Mason & Eddie Bauer Made The Perfect Vintage-Style Jacket for Fall

Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer Skyliner Jacket.

You might say that they just don’t make ’em like they used to as you cruise the market for the best men’s jackets for fall (and beyond). That’s but one category to which that adage applies, but if you ask me, it certainly doesn’t hold weight when you consider the latest collaboration from all-American style purveyors Buck Mason.

Your favorite menswear brand seems to hit the nail on the head in plenty of different categories, be it the exceptionally well-curated Buck Mason Vintage Collection or its assortment of USA-made T-shirts. But when you really need to beef things up when brisk weather rolls into town, the LA-based outfitter turned to a company that knows a thing or two about making some of the best performance jackets for men on the market.

Billy Reid Fall 2023 Mens

That brand, of course, is famed adventure gear maker Eddie Bauer, and the Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer Capsule already looks to be the stuff of legend. Eddie Bauer, of course, made the first patented down jacket in the United States and helped outfit adventurers, high-altitude explorers and the military in the process of testing out those jackets.

So it only makes sense that Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer would look to the past to reinvent some absolutely iconic styles.

Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer Skyliner Jacket.

Chief among those styles? The Eddie Bauer Skyliner Jacket, a bomber down jacket with distinctive diamond quilting and cozy ribbed cuffs and collar. The OG version is tough as nails and ultra-warm, and the new Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer Skyliner Jacket pays homage to the original as only Buck Mason can. It’s done up in a rich, earthy Oregano color in keeping with Buck Mason’s dusty-hued menswear, and the specs can certainly pass muster, too.

The versatility of the Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer Skyliner Jacket for adventures far afield (or casually rugged trips across town) is unmatched, given that it features Responsible Down Standard, 650-fill power down (translation: It’s warm and durable without a ton of bulk). You’ll find side entry hip pockets for your EDC on the front of this stylish Eddie Bauer jacket, while the classic fit delivers room for layering other Buck Mason menswear essentials.

Satchel and Page

And at $275, the Buck Mason x Eddie Bauer Skyliner Jacket looks to be, at least in my book, a downright steal for its utility, heritage and style. That sounds like a classic jacket worth adding to your modern menswear rotation right now.

See Now, Buy Now: The Filson Tin Cloth Work Jacket is Built for Anything This Fall

Filson Tin Cloth Work Jacket review.

If you peruse the pages of this blog with any regularity, you know that there are certain brands I’m all about — certain brands with proven pedigree, performance, heritage and style. I’d wager you’ve got your own list of personal favorite brands, so here’s hoping the fine folks at Filson have a worthy spot within your own ranking.

It’s hard to single out just one item among Filson’s lineup of rugged menswear fit for fall and winter, but let’s start with the Filson Tin Cloth Jacket. It’s the stuff of legend, with a waxed exterior and an iconic trucker jacket design that can go the distance.

Beyond that, the weather-resistant Tin Cloth fabric is as tough as it gets — that toughness makes it the ideal material to turn into a new Filson men’s jacket, like the Filson Tin Cloth Work Jacket. It’s but the latest and greatest jacket from the Pacific Northwest brand, and surprisingly enough, it’s a new entry to the entire lineup.

Filson Tin Cloth Jacket.

How so, you ask? Well, Filson took the design from its archives, where they found a wool jacket cut in a similar style. To get from point A to point B, they drummed up that legendary Tin Cloth material to end up with the hard-wearing Filson Tin Cloth Work Jacket. The rest, you might say, is history — or at least, it will be as this jacket establishes itself among Filson’s menswear essentials for rugged style.

Filson men's jackets for fall.

Oversized, reinforced snap pockets provide critical space for your EDC and for any small tools you need for your fall to-do list, while the wool collar delivers standout warmth on chilly days. The Filson Tin Cloth Work Jacket hits at the hip, so it should prove slightly longer than the original Tin Cloth Jacket.

Plus, its sleeves are lined in polyester (that lining means the sleeves of your flannel shirt or henley won’t snag as you put the jacket on). It’s a no-fuss, no-frills, tough-as-nails jacket in a timeless Dark Tan color — suffice to say, the Filson Tin Cloth Work Jacket should prove worth the nearly $350 price tag. Can’t get enough Filson? You’re in luck with this jacket, because it’s a new heirloom classic.

The Thursday Buy: The Filson Tin Cloth Cruiser Jacket is Back for Fall, and Better than Ever

Filson Tin Cloth Cruiser Jacket review.

Some menswear essentials never really leave — they never quite drift from your mind or from your consideration as you build out your wardrobe season after season, and Filson personifies that approach to a T. Though the brand has grown from a Pacific Northwest outfitter into a bona fide fashion favorite, the Seattle company still makes some all-time classic pieces season after season, mostly with remarkable consistency.

Lofty praise though that might be, the Filson Tin Cloth Cruiser Jacket fits the bill very nicely. It’s a certified legendary piece, made with the brand’s ultra-rugged, hard-wearing Tin Cloth fabric and designed with plenty of pockets for your everyday carry. Filson calls it the “jacket that started it all,” and they certainly haven’t missed the mark there.

Filson men's waxed jacket review.

It’s available in colors like Military Green or Filson’s classic Dark Tan in terms of style points, but it’s the water-resistant exterior, the sturdy yet malleable dry canvas Cover Cloth lining, and the durable hardware that really ups the ante.

‘ll keep it simple today: If you’re going to get one casually rugged men’s jacket for fall, invest in one you’ll have for a long time — invest in one of the best Filson jackets on the market, my friends.

See Now, Buy Now: Mack Weldon’s Stormchaser Jacket is the Best Fall Travel Jacket

The good folks at Mack Weldon continually prove why the company is one of the best menswear brands of the moment, from ease of service to high-quality products designed to move you from season to season. That’s the case whether they’re producing one of the best fall jackets for men — the subject of today’s post — or whether the focus happens to be, say, the best T-shirt for spring or the ideal pants to wear back to the office. There’s lots to love with Mack Weldon, and when you check out the Mack Weldon Stormchaser Jacket to carry you into and through blustery early fall days, you’ll certainly realize why they might just be your new favorite men’s style brand. That’s high praise, but I’d guarantee there’s something for everyone at Mack Weldon, assuredly including one of the best jackets for men.

It’s the brand’s first rain jacket, and although that might seem like something you more closely associate with spring, it’s all the better to keep handy as fall weather rolls through town, especially with outdoor road trips top of mind. The Mack Weldon Stormchaser Jacket is built to exacting standards and manages to clock in at below $200, impressive when you consider the sort of functionality you’re getting here. It features a fully seam-sealed interior, keeping you dry while maintaining the composed exterior of a lightweight rain jacket. Bonded pockets also protect your everyday carry essentials, another must-have for fall adventures.

SHOP: The Mack Weldon Stormchaser Jacket

Crucially, the super-functional and sleek Mack Weldon Stormchaser Jacket is as stylish as it is functional, boasting a sleek design and a sleek matte finish in two highly wearable colors. It’s the perfect sort of jacket to add to any wardrobe of existing Mack Weldon style staples, including the brand’s Tech Chinos and perhaps a breathable Oxford shirt. You can also wear it accordingly atop a sweater from Mack Weldon, all the better to really drive home versatile, go-anywhere style.

Mack Weldon has you covered

It’s going to keep you dry on the road and at home, and it helps that the built-in adjustable hood is also rather sleek, not overly bulky. It seems like, as with most Mack Weldon gear picks, the brand really has thought of every little detail, right down to the Velcro cuffs on the Mack Weldon Stormchaser Jacket. It’s also worth noting once again that the sub-$200 price works well for most any budget, especially if you’re OK with buying a rain jacket you can layer and wear in multiple seasons (which you certainly should be!). The Mack Weldon Stormchaser Jacket is at once underrated and essential, and it belongs on your back heading into fall.

The Friday Read: The worn&wound Watch Fair, The Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket and Fall Fitness

The month of October seriously has flown by — can you believe it? We’ve talked a bunch about fall style essentials, from the rugged men’s gear to buy now to the best bomber jacket for fall to sporty, stylish sneakers for weekend adventures. Hopefully, it’s been helpful? You can — and should! — let me know your thoughts via The Style Guide Facebook page. In the midst of all this #menswear coverage, I’ve also been thankful to get out and about quite a bit this month, from a Northeast trip to Boston to see my favorite band (The National!), to explorations around some neat Brooklyn spots thanks to my Wildsam Field Guide. Among those stops, I can’t recommend craft beer haven The Well enough, and the super cool, eclectcic Silent Barn is a great DIY music and art gallery at which I spent an enjoyable evening recently. $8 for three bands? Not bad at all, my friends. Of course, I also had the chance to head back to Chicago this past weekend for a visit with my great friend and former State News journo Jesse O’Brien.

Now, if you follow me on Instagram, perhaps you knew all about my latest trip (wink, wink). On top of a summer weekend in Chicago and a trip to Lollapalooza 2017, it’s been great to explore such a cool city, complete with craft beer and #menswear galore. Are you heading on any fall trips soon? Be sure to dress in casual weekend style — for now, we’ll say goodbye as we head into a Brooklyn weekend. I’ve got another excellent Brooklyn Steel show on tap, this time featuring breezy Brooklyn indie rockers Beach Fossils! Follow along on Instagram for all the action, and thanks for reading!
