#OOTD: How to Wear Classic High-Top Sneakers this Fall

It could be easy to dismiss something as simple as the classic high-top sneaker, but we here at The Style Guide think that would be … well, a mistake. Classic high-top sneakers — like the Chuck Taylor high-tops featured today — can work with just about anything in your wardrobe, especially for fall. A navy blazer, tan chinos and a white Oxford? Yes, that’s a winner. Something as laidback as tailored sweatpants and a stylish white T-shirt? Go for it. What about other men’s style essentials, fall-ready pieces like a rugged henley and classic dark denim? Rest assured, a pair like the Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star can work with ease. These shoes have history and style to burn, and they’re the perfect pair of kicks to reach for when you want to shake up an outfit filled with mostly easygoing pieces (such as the classic crewneck sweatshirt & Oxford shirt combo as featured below). Throw in a stylish casual watch and you’re ready for casual style scenarios aplenty. Heck, the sneakers on their own have enough style and street cred to carry most outfits, and they’ll put you over the top in most instances (no one else at your tailgate has these, right). Now, without further ado, let’s get you acquainted with this full ensemble — fall fashion can’t wait, after all.

RELATED STORY: The Best High-Top Sneakers to Wear Now

A clean, classic and easy way to wear high-top sneakers this fall.

  • The Sneakers: Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star High-Tops, $55–Don’t mess with a stone-cold classic — the Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star looks great in any season, especially early fall.
  • The Crewneck Sweatshirt: Myles Apparel Elements Crew, $64.98  — For a casual fall weekend, you can’t top the rugged appeal and comfort of a classic crewneck sweatshirt like the Myles Apparel Elements Crew.
  • The Oxford Shirt: Outerknown Nomadic Oxford in Army, $54 — Heading to Sunday brunch? Or a coffee date? Or a casual weekend round of beers? This sustainably made, stylish Oxford goes a long way.
  • The Classic Dark DenimFlint and Tinder Stretch Selvage Jeans, $118 — You know what never fails? A pair of slim dark blue jeans — particularly the Flint and Tinder Stretch Selvage Jeans. Comfort and style rolled into one.
  • The Belt: Beltology Radius Woven Belt, $50 — There’s no sense in skimping on your accessories. This textured belt adds some visual interest and keeps in line with the casual vibe of this #OOTD.
  • The Watch: Timex Navi Ocean Watch, $131.98 — How best to offset classic high-top sneakers, rugged dark denim and a classic crewneck sweatshirt? A stylish casual watch from Timex.
  • The Weekend Essential: Huckberry Blue Hour Growler, $75 — From the neat artwork to the fact that the Blue Hour Growler just looks plain cool, you’re gonna need this for a fall weekend camping trip.
  • The Wallet: Taylor Stitch Minimalist Billfold Wallet in Brown, $98 — Yep, Taylor Stitch makes wallets, too. The Minimalist Billfold is handsome, rugged and surely essential.
  • The Backpack: Fjallraven Greenland Top, $120 — Like we said earlier, this outfit can go anywhere from a day hike to a brewery visit, and the durable, affordable Fjallraven Greenland Top can go with you.
  • The Grooming Essential: Maapilim Hair Cream, $32 –Go for a slightly more laidback ‘do with Maapilim’s Hair Cream, geared toward a light hold and subtle shine. Fall weekend-ready, anyone?

That’ll wrap up this #OOTD quite nicely, don’t you think? Like other fall style essentials, if you start with something as classic and recognizable as stylish high-top sneakers, you’re in good shape — heck, you can do almost anything. The Myles Apparel Elements Crew is a prime casual layer, fit for throwing on over a unique Oxford shirt or a thermal long-sleeve tee in equal measure.  The Flint and Tinder Stretch Selvage Jeans are the perfect antidote to overly stiff stretch selvage, and they’ll look sharp when rolled up atop your Converse. On to your accessories: Never underestimate the versatility of a stylish casual watch, especially one that’s made for a bit of adventure (or tailgating). From there, we really get rolling — you’re going to want to bring the Blue Hour Growler to your next fall weekend get-together, along with the tough (and beer-friendly!) Fjallraven Greenland Top. Of course, a stylish leather wallet is always something you should have handy, and keeping that ‘do fresh with Maapilim Hair Cream is a wise, wise bet. Alright, my friends. What do you have to say about this #OOTD? How are you accessorizing your high-top sneakers?

#OOTD: Wear This Rugged Gear to Get Ready for Early Fall

Just as quickly as we were recommending how to wear your favorite summer T-shirt, we’re now recommending the men’s style essentials to get you ready for early fall. Today’s #OOTD takes a decidedly casual turn, focused on versatile pieces that can tackle fall weekend travel, an outdoor farmer’s market, a beer festival … you name it, I’m sure the below menswear essentials are going to work for you in some way, shape or form. From a classic grey crewneck sweatshirt to an equally classic men’s denim shirt, the building blocks shown here are perfect if you want to up your game ever so slightly without veering too far into formal territory. And if you’re just looking for something relatively easy to throw on the morning after a few too many IPAs, fear not — we’ve got you covered with stretch blue denim and rugged leather boots from Red Wing Heritage.  Throw on a stylish field watch (and more choice accessories as seen below), and I’d say you’re pretty much set for early fall. Whaddya say now? Ready to welcome the new season? Let’s step into it in style — cheers.

Rugged-yet-classic shirting, a grey crewneck sweater and more #menswear favorites for your early fall pursuits.

  • The Shirt: Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt in Sun Bleached Denim, $98 — There’s something about a classic denim shirt like the Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt that allows it to work season after season — that’s certainly the case here.
  • The Sweatshirt: Myles Apparel Elements Crew, $78  — Made with performance fabric, the Myles Apparel Elements Crew manages to nail the tricky balance between comfort and style — a classic men’s sweatshirt for early fall.
  • The Denim: Roark Revival 12.5oz. Stretch Travel Denim, $67.98 — Whether you wear the Stretch Travel Denim from Roark Revival for actuall fall travel or a lazy early fall weekend, you’ll look just great doing it.
  • The Stylish Leather BootsRed Wing Iron Ranger Boots in Hawthorne, $315 — As durable and investment-ready a pair of timeless boots as you’re apt to find, the Red Wing Iron Ranger Boots are perhaps the perfect men’s boots for fall. It’s that simple.
  • The Belt: Levi’s Contrast Stitch Belt, $26.99 — Never, ever sleep on your accessories — take it from me! The Levi’s Contrast Stitch Belt fits in with the rugged vibe of this ensemble.
  • The Durable Field WatchHemel Tracker Watch, $340 — A outfit with some hearty, hard-wearing pieces deserves a stylish casual watch — with its blend of bold style and durability, the Hemel Tracker Watch works.
  • The Wallet: Wingback London Cash Wallet, $59 — Whether you’re opening up a tab at your favorite brewery or grabbing a casual dinner with your partner, you need a wallet that’s as stylish as you are — seriously.
  • The Stylish SocksCHUP Niyol Socks, $35 — Add some pop — and comfort, and warmth — to your early fall outfit with the subtly stylish CHUP Niyol Socks.
  • The Weekened Essential: GrowlerWerks uPint, $28 — Hey, we said this outfit could work nearly anywhere — particularly if you’re sipping on a pint of your favorite craft beer. This pint glass looks great and keeps your beer cold.
  • The Grooming Essential: House99 Truly Brighter Eye Balm, $30 — Particularly if you enjoyed a pint or two too many, refreshing your tired eyes is critical — and it’s never been easier than with this essential eye balm from Mr. David Beckham’s new line.

Building an #OOTD for a casual situation can actually be surprisingly tricky — that’s why it’s best to start from the ground up with timeless, seasonally friendly picks that can go the distance, like rugged leather boots from Red Wing Heritage. Add in other easy-to-wear pieces — staples like the Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt and the Myles Apparel Elements Crew — and you’re looking at the makings of an outfit that fits in at Saturday night happy hour or Sunday brunch easily. Comfortable early fall menswear moves such as the Stretch Travel Denim from Roark Revival make it easy to move around and get where you’re going (even if that happens to be your local coffee shop).

I’m also a huge proponent of wearing durable accessories that you can readily mix and match, like the Hemel Tracker Watch and the tough Levi’s Contrast Stitch Belt — both everyday carry essentials that can be used with a host of other fall style ensembles. Focusing on comfort merged with style is also going to yield you some favorable returns, hence the use of the striking CHUP Niyol Socks here. For raising a glass in style (or offering a neat gift to a weekend host), something like the GrowlerWerks uPint is also going to make a lasting impression.  Top off your look with a handy grooming essential from House99, and you’re set to take on the new season in style — to say the very least!

That’s all I’ve got for ya today. Thanks for reading!

#OOTD: How to Dress for a Business Casual Office This Fall (And Beyond)

We normally  keep things pretty casual here on the blog in terms of style scenarios, from how to dress for a rock concert to how to wear your new favorite denim jacket. That focus is changing today, however, with a business-ready #OOTD that’s going to get you ready for a casual-yet-polished day at the office. Think your favorite men’s style essentials, just remixed ever so slightly. That is to say, I think picks like the Taylor Stitch Everyday Blazer — as highlighted below! — are perfect if you’re searching for advice on how to dress for a business casual office. It seems that most offices these days are leaning toward casual — a mix of high-and-low pieces on most days, with things maybe leaning a bit more polished for a big meeting. I know that describes the PR office I’m in right now — maybe you’re in the same boat. The great thing is, the casual pieces you know and love, like a classic Oxford shirt and slim dark denim, can be pulled together in one ensemble to help you take on the day in polished professional style. A company logo polo and beige khakis, this is not. No sir, I hope this suggestion pushes you to look just a bit better than average at the office. What say you? Ready to get to work? I sure hope so.

The right mix of laidback essentials and polished pieces for the office.

  • The Blazer: Taylor Stitch Telegraph Blazer in Everyday Navy, $348 — Made from comfortable, year-round suiting wool in a tailored fit, the Telegraph Blazer from Taylor Stitch could work any day of the week for you.
  • The Classic Oxford ShirtFlint and Tinder Garment-Dyed Oxford, $98— When in doubt, a soft-washed Oxford shirt like this one from Flint and Tinder is the way to go.
  • The Denim: Taylor Stitch Slim Jean in Cone Mills ’68 Selvage, $145 — Are you sensing a theme here? Your favorite dark denim — I.E. the amazing Taylor Stitch Slim Jeans — are absolutely office-ready this early fall.
  • The Chukka Boots: Allen Edmonds Montauk Plain Toe Chukka Boots, $325 — Classic suede chukka boots can — and should — be worn whenever you can, especially these refined Allen Edmonds chukka boots. Think of these as a comfortable-yet-casual step up from brown leather dress shoes.
  • The Belt: Levi’s Premium Leather Icon Belt, $33.99 — Feel free to go a little more casual with the Levi’s Premium Leather Icon Belt — versatile enough to wear on the weekends, too.
  • The Socks: Little River Sock Mill Textured Herringbone Crew Socks in Cocoa, $22 — Because it’s early fall after all, stylish herringbone socks from Little River Sock Mill provide comfort and seasonal style.
  • The Watch: BREDA Visser Watch, $90 — With an #OOTD like this, mixing both casual and slightly more refined pieces makes your watch choice easy — the BREDA Visser Watch is a stylish everyday watch fit for work.
  • The Everyday Carry Essential: Bellroy A5 Work Folio, $199 — For prepping for a client meeting or a monthly presentation, organization is surely key. What if I told you the Bellroy Work Folio could help with all of that while keeping all of your ducks in a row? Good stuff, right?
  • The Grooming Essential: House99 Purefectly Clean Face Wash, $25 — Your routine for a day at the office should definitely involve a purifying face wash — it helps that this one comes from David Beckham’s new line.
  • The Finishing Touch: Duke Cannon Solid Cologne in Land, $25 — It’s amazing how one small finishing touch can elevate your look and your confidence — solid cologne from Duke Cannon, a personal favorite, works nicely and leaves you smelling just great.

Alright, my friends — who’s ready to crush that big day at the office? The old mantra “If you look good, you feel good” absolutely applies here. And if you start with timeless menswear essentials like the Telegraph Blazer from Taylor Stitch, you’re well on your way to being the best-dressed guy in a casual office. Picks like a classic men’s Oxford from Flint and Tinder also strike the right balance between laidback and polished — the same can be said for the classic, office-friendly Taylor Stitch Slim Jeans in a rich indigo. The major building blocks of this ensemble are balanced nicely alongside classic suede chukka boots, especially the refined Allen Edmonds Mountauk Plain Toe Chukka Boots. As ever, I urge you step up your accessories ever so slightly for the office — durable, versatile picks like stylish herringbone socks from Little River Sock Mill should play nicely off the Levi’s Premium Leather Icon Belt. Keeping everything for your presentation or meeting organized can be a tall order at times, yet the Bellroy Work Folio should help you accomplish that feat easily — and in style, to say the least. The BREDA Visser Watch is also the perfect timepiece for this ensemble, with an air of casual refinement that’s not too gaudy.  I’m also a big proponent of starting your day the right way — Duke Cannon’s Solid Cologne and the House99 face wash as shown above are going to get you out the door in fine fashion. So, what do we think? Will you be incorporating the Telegraph Blazer from Taylor Stitch (and other men’s style essentials) into your next business casual look?

#OOTD: Get Ready for Early Fall with a Classic Chambray Shirt

Notice that as the calendar creeps ever closer to Labor Day, we’re just as focused as ever on men’s style essentials that can take you from August on into September and October with ease. So, whether you wear today’s #OOTD for some upcoming Labor Day travel, a casual weekend coffee run or even a lunch date or your last summer BBQ, I’d say you’re going to be in great shape. For instance: That blend of casual, versatile style gets all the easier when you start with the Taylor Sitch Everyday Chambray Shirt — definitely one of the best men’s chambray shirts out there — and then build your outfit around it. From cool, unique slim brown denim to versatile high-top sneakers to some seriously stylish men’s sunglasses from Sunski, this ensemble is packed with essentials that simply nail the best of the best when it comes to affordable men’s style. Yes indeed, there’s nothing too fancy about this outfit, and that’s a great thing. As we’ve said time and again at The Style Guide, that means you can wear pieces like the Taylor Stitch Everyday Chambray Shirt to grab coffee or groceries, or a round of beers at your next rock concert. Who can argue with that? Good luck getting ready for the end of summer, and we’ll see you out there.

Casual, straightforward and without any extra bells or whistles in sight — that’s what we’ve got for you today.

  • The Classic Chambray ShirtTaylor Stitch California Shirt in Blue Everyday Chambray, $118 — With roots in workwear and a strong foundation in casual style, the rugged chambray shirt is the perfect pick-me-up to move you from late summer into early fall. Taylor Stitch scores again with the Everyday Chambray.
  • The Tee: WP Standard Slub Tee, $28 — You’ve likely seen this shirt on my Instagram, perhaps? Soft fabric, an excellent fit and a cool curved hem  — perfect for layering under the Everyday Chambray Shirt.
  • The Denim: Bulletprufe Tobacco Brown Denim, $98 — Wearing dark indigo denim can get a little monotonous at times, as much as we all love it. The uniquely colored Tobacco Brown Denim from Bulletprufe changes all of that.
  • The Sneakers: TOMS TRVL LITE High Sneakers, $84.95 — Don’t think TOMS can pull off sneakers? Think again — the TRVL LITE Sneakers really are quite comfortable, now available in a fall-friendly High version.
  • The Socks: Anonymousim Anchor Jacquard Crew Socks, $20 — You know what can make all the difference when it comes to your ensemble? Comfortable, stylish socks like these ones from Anonymousism. Bingo.
  • The Belt & Money Clip: Bespoke Post Worn Box, $55 — Might as well get two handy menswear essentials in one well-priced package with the Bespoke Post Worn Box, right? A sleek money clip and a stylish leather belt both belong on your person this season.
  • The Watch: Hemel HFT20 Watch, $340 — For an outfit that features a hefty chambray shirt, you’re going to want a rugged leather watch that packs some punch — the Hemel HFT20 Watch is that watch.
  • The Sunglasses: Sunski Yubas Sunglasses, $55 — Blending affordability and a stylish, eye-catching frame shape (pun intended), the Sunski Yubas Sunglasses strike the right balance between casual & classic.
  • The Hat: WP Ebbets Field Cap, $45 — Go with a vintage-inspired ballcap from the stellar partnership between WP Standard and Ebbets Field Flannels to top this whole thing off — it’s just plain cool.

So, is your head simply spinning with all the possibilities this stylish, versatile #OOTD brings to the table? From a backyard BBQ to Labor Day travel to an outdoor festival, I can think of plenty of places where an essential like the Taylor Sitch Everyday Chambray Shirt could take you. When you pair a rugged chambray shirt with a simple, yet visually interesting, slub tee, you’ve got the makings of an outfit that’s going to look at home at a brewery or your favorite coffee shop, easily. Add in Tobacco Brown Denim from Bulletprufe in a nicely tailored fit, and this ensemble is just different enough from what you might wear on the daily (notice the lack of dark blue indigo denim!). High-top sneakers from TOMS in a neutral shade of grey nod nicely toward fall, while subtle accessories like stylish socks from Anonymousism add a bit of flair to your bottom half (just a bit, though!). The standout Hemel HFT20 Watch is an absurdly beautiful everyday timepiece, as ready for travel as it is for your next backyard party — the same can be said about the cool vibes you get from the Sunski Yubas Sunglasses and the neat WP Ebbets Field Cap. If you haven’t picked up on it yet, this #OOTD can really go just about anywhere when it comes to casual early fall adventures.

So, where are you going to take this #OOTD? What might you change about it? Oh, and thanks for reading!

#OOTD: How to Dress for A Summer Bonfire

We sure do love a great, versatile #OOTD for summer — who doesn’t, am I right? And today, we’re getting just a little specific as we look toward the end of summer and the start of fall. That being said, there’s still some time to indulge in the finer pleasures of life, like throwing on a stylish zip hoodie (they exist!), cracking open a cold beer & enjoying a summer bonfire. It’s an oddly specific situation, to be sure, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t reach for men’s style essentials to help you dress your best. That being said, I think I’ve pulled together a look here that’ll help you take on that backyard BBQ with stylish ease, and keep you casual and comfortable during an evening bonfire thereafter. It’s one of those situations where you can go casual, and yet still look stylish as all get-out. From easygoing SeaVees slip-ons to slim chino shorts to a stylish leather watch and a throwback-inspired T-shirt from the folks at Flint and Tinder, this #OOTD has you covered from A-to-Z in terms of essential off-duty style. If you ask me, that’s the perfect way to savor these last few weeks of summer — dressed in a look that’s laidback, yet great-looking, all the while enjoying the company of family and friends … preferably with a cold brew in hand. Enjoy, and cheers!

The upgraded way to enjoy a bonfire, from the stylish hoodie to a cool tee.

  • The Hoodie: Flint and Tinder 10-Year Hoodie in Gray, $98 — There’s a good chance that the thermostat might drop a little bit when the sun goes down, so when it does, reach for the legendary Flint and Tinder 10-Year Hoodie.
  • The Tee: Flint and Tinder City Slub Tee, $32 — Want to separate yourself from the pack with subtle style? A classic T-shirt like the unique Flint and Tinder City Slub Tee, featuring a throwback-inspired logo, does it.
  • The Shorts: Flint and Tinder 365 Shorts, $78 — Let’s make it three-for-three when it comes to Flint and Tinder gear here — the 365 Shorts are the slim chino shorts you need to close out summer.
  • The Belt: Cause and Effect Brindle Belt, $130 — Go vintage-inspired and eye-catching with a rugged leather belt from Cause and Effect — a great way to set this outfit apart from the everyday.
  • The Sneakers: SeaVees Huntington Middie in Dark Navy, $108 –Your stylish casual sneakers are really where you’re going to stand out, even at a bonfire — the SeaVees Huntington Middie is a surefire upgrade over plain old slip-ons or athletic sneakers.
  • The Watch: Hemel HFT20 Watch, $382.50 — Why wear a rugged leather watch like the Hemel HFT20 to a bonfire? ‘Cuz it’s a darn-stylish accessory and the perfect complement to this rugged, laidback outfit.
  • The Hat: Corridor NYC Cap in Natural Vege Suede, $45 — There’s really no way to go wrong if you’re shopping for gear from Corridor NYC — the Natural Vege Suede Cap is unique, subtly stylish and just plain cool to wear to an outdoor bonfire and BBQ.
  • The Essential: Taylor Stitch Camp Mug in Bear Print, $38 — What are you sipping around the bonfire? Perhaps a tasty homemade whiskey drink or the like — the Taylor Stitch Camp Mug is a durable, eco-friendly way to do it.

Should dressing for a summer bonfire be a priority in terms of style? Absolutely. It’s the small situations in life that can be the most fun to dress for, anyways — who wouldn’t want to throw on a stylish hoodie (like the Flint and Tinder 10-Year Hoodie!), hang out around a bonfire and sip some beers with friends? That’s what this #OOTD allows you to do — from the Flint and Tinder City Slub Tee to the tailored-yet-casual 365 Shorts, this ensemble is all about keeping it laidback yet put-together. Crucial footwear like the SeaVees Huntington Middie drive home the casual-yet-functional vibe of this ensemble, as does a rugged leather watch like the Hemel HFT20. Don’t understate the value that stylish accessories, like the Natural Vege Suede Cap and the Cause and Effect Brindle Leather Belt, can bring to a casual style situation, either.  I’m telling you, there’s nearly no way you can go wrong when you reach for men’s style essentials that are easy to wear, subtly stylish and very, very well-made. Are you ready for your next summer bonfire yet? Just make sure it’s not the last — there’s still plenty of time to get your friends together … and plenty of time to look great! Thanks for reading — cheers!

#OOTD: How to Dress for Your Next Rock Concert

Make no mistake, Style Guide readers — we’ve talked in the past in our #OOTD series about how to dress for a concert. But if you, like me, are in favor of shaking up your style from time to time with a slew of new-and-improved menswear essentials, well then … today’s amped-up post is for you. Dressing for a rock concert or that last music festival of summer is yet another situation in which you can up your game just a bit — by sticking with excellent essentials like tough leather boots and a stylish denim shirt, you’re going to strike just the right balance. The key here is neither looking like you just got out of work (change out of that dress shirt and trousers) or like you’re attempting to imitate Mick Jagger (tight leather pants are a no-no, my friends). So, we’re going with an ensemble you could feasibly wear to work (in a casual environment), and then right out to an outdoor summer concert or an indoor club show with ease. Slim black jeans, a classic white T-shirt and a stylish casual watch also help do the heavy lifting for you. That’s why I’m pleased to introduce you to today’s headliner-worthy essentials. Cheers!

A rugged Western shirt, rugged black jeans, tough boots … what’s not to love about this #OOTD?

  • The Shirt: Flint and Tinder Bone Button Western Shirt, $128 — Consider this rugged Western shirt from Flint and Tinder your new favorite shirt — cool and edgy enough to wear to an outdoor concert, stylish and sharp enough to pass at the office during the day.
  • The Tee: Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Tee in Natural, $45 — Reach for a classic, stylish white T-shirt with some depth and texture to add some visual interest to this rugged, rock n’roll-ready ensemble.
  • The Denim: Flint and Tinder Black Stonewashed Jeans, $118 — Black jeans? At a rock concert? Not entirely groundbreaking, to be sure, but like Mr. Matt Berninger of The National, I just can’t get enough of slim black jeans at a rock show.
  • The Boots: Huckberry x Original Chippewa 6-Inch Service Boots, $182.98 — To be sure, tough leather boots aren’t exactly a groundbreaking rock n’roll style move, but the Huckberry x Original Chippewa Service Boots are versatile and tough enough to work at indoor or outdoor rock shows aplenty.
  • The Belt: Line of Trade Veg-Tanned Leather Belt, $55 — Never underestimate the visual interest and style power of a well-made leather belt. This one just so happens to match your rugged leather boots, too.
  • The Socks: Little River Sock Mill Multi-Stripe Crew Socks, $20 — Comfortable socks are going to go a long way in giving your feet some much-needed cushion and comfort during an hours-long show — Little River Sock Mill gets the job done in terms of style and function.
  • The Watch: Timex Navi Ocean Watch, $155 — A stylish casual watch is going to serve a dual role at a rock show, keeping you on time while injecting your look with a bit of functional fashion.
  • The Sunglasses: Taylor Stitch Legend Sunglasses, $175 — Whether you’re attending a summer or fall outdoor festival or an evening show, the just-different-enough vibes of the Taylor Stitch Legend Sunglasses are an essential capper to this rugged #OOTD.

Does this #OOTD have enough tough, rock-ready concert gear for you? I certainly think it does. Whether you’re heading to a dingy rock club and sipping on PBR or hanging out at a beautiful outdoor amphitheatre or a breezy festival in the coming months, this ensemble just … works. Staple pieces like a rugged Western shirt from Flint and Tinder, teamed with a stylish white T-shirt step things up significantly from the norm, while sleek, slim black jeans accent the look with some rock n’roll edge. Dependable, stylish leather boots from the exclusive Huckberry x Original Chippewa collaboration give the look both functionality and rugged flair — there’s nothing I love to wear more to a concert than some tough leather boots. Socks from Little River Sock Mill provide comfort and a touch of style without going over the top, while a stylish casual watch from our friends at Timex finishes off this look with functionality and understated style. Oh, and to keep the sun out of your eyes so you can take in all the glory of a great live show? Throw on the Taylor Stitch Legend Sunglasses for a classic-yet-modern vibe. And now, belly up to the bar, grab a pint and rock on! Cheers!

#OOTD: How to Wear Your New Favorite Denim Jacket

We always try to cover a lot of ground when it comes to our #OOTD series, from how to wear boots during the summer to the best way to style your chambray shirt. It all comes down to, as always, taking your favorite pieces and mixing up the formula, the fit and the styling. Such is the case with today’s featured #OOTD, my friends. It starts with a tried-and-true menswear essential — the rugged denim jacket — and features unique, summer-friendly styling touches, like the Taylor Stitch Hawthorne Shirt and go-anywhere classic suede chukka boots. These are items that work well on their own, and yet look even better blended into one ensemble. The resulting look is a different way to wear a piece (the stylish denim jacket) that you know and love. Between the laidback trousers and a pair of retro-inspired sunglasses, you’ve got an outfit that screams casual versatility, from brunch to the market to your favorite coffee shop. If you really want to beat the heat? Ditch the rugged denim jacket and wear the Taylor Stitch Hawthorne Shirt on its own — I’ll let you be the judge of how you ultimately want to make this #OOTD work for you, though.

Your favorite denim jacket, worn in an unexpected way.

  • Flint and Tinder Denim Trucker Jacket, $168 — Here’s the trusty, stylish denim jacket we mentioned earlier. The centerpiece of this outfit, the solid fit and pleasing mid-wash make it a winning summer layer.
  • The Shirt: Taylor Stitch Hawthorne Shirt, $125 — Beat the hot weather with the Hawthorne Shirt from Taylor Stitch, complete with short sleeves (to rid yourself of excess heat) and a seriously cool pattern.
  • The Pants: Life/After/Denim Harbor Pants, $148 — One way to stay casual and breezy this summer? The Harbor Pants from Life/After/Denim, featuring a tapered fit, a cotton-linen blend & a drawstring waist.
  • The Boots: Astorflex Greenflex Boots in Dark Khaki, $145 — We talked a couple weeks ago about how to wear boots this summer, and if you want to dip your toe in those waters, the Astorflex Greenflex are a great way to start. Fear not: These classic chukka boots are relatively light and very easy to wear.
  • The Socks: American Trench Mil-Spec Sport Socks, $12.50 — I’m an advocate of investing in classic items you love to wear — and that’s why I love the classic style and comfort of the Mil-Spec Sport Socks. With a no-fuss design & an array of color options, they’re the perfect complement to this #OOTD.
  • The Watch: Form-Function-Form Horween Leather Weekender, $98 — Reach for a rugged, stylish casual watch to balance out the go-anywhere nature of this outfit. The Horween Leather Weekender from Timex checks all the right boxes.
  • The Sunglasses: Taylor Stitch Legend Sunglasses, $175 — Sure, you could reach for classic Aviator sunglasses with this ensemble, but the Taylor Stitch Legend Sunglasses are much more visually interesting and just … cool.
  • The Grooming Essential: Blind Barber 30 Proof Styling Cream, $18 — I love me a vintage-inspired ballcap as much as the next guy, but the Blind Barber 30 Proof Styling Cream will give your ‘do and your look a little something extra.

So, what exactly makes this outfit different from another summer #OOTD? Well, if you start with a timeless outer layer (in this case, the rugged denim jacket from Flint and Tinder), you can mix and match as you please. You’re ready for a breezy summer night or an in-between summer day in equal measure, especially when you pair the Flint and Tinder Denim Trucker Jacket with the Taylor Stitch Hawthorne Shirt for versatile layering. Easygoing pieces like the Harbor Pants from Life/After/Denim drive home the breathable, cool nature of this outfit. And both the American Trench Mil-Spec Socks and classic chukka boots like the Astorflex Greenflex add a dash of everyday style. Throwing on a rugged, casual timepiece like the Horween Leather Weekender from Timex keeps this outfit firmly in casual territory, while a grooming must-have like the Blind Barber 30 Proof Styling Cream takes your ‘do to the next level — to say the least. So, what’s your takeaway from this week’s #OOTD? Which piece is your favorite, at that? Join the conversation on Twitter.

#OOTD: How to Dress in Versatile Style For the Rest of Summer

As we power through the rest of summer, I’d say there’s no better way you can dress than with versatile, comfortable off-duty style in mind. It’s one thing to throw on a classic Oxford shirt and a lightweight navy blazer to head to the office, but it can sometimes be another matter entirely to want to look good when you’re off the clock. That’s what we’re tackling today on The Style Guide — an outfit with a few different layers for a few different looks, each as suited for a casual patio lunch as for a rooftop summer party. It comes down to a colorful, cool base — in this case, the La Paz Ribas Henley — plus other equally versatile and rugged picks (I.E. Slim dark denim and classic SeaVees sneakers). In short, I think you’ll find you already own a lot of these pieces, but we’re wearing them today in a way that allows you to go a few different places, from the ballpark to the bar and back home (for instance). Throw a tough everyday bag into the mix, and you could even wear this to your co-working space or to your favorite coffee shop to knock out some writing (Just me? Ahh, well).  As always, you’re going to look great. Let’s get to it!

Pieces that you know and love, worn in a way that you’re going to love.

  • The Shirt: Filson Feather Cloth Short-Sleeve Shirt, $68 — You could just as easily throw on a classic chambray shirt here, but I think the color and durability of this Filson shirt makes it a winner.
  • The Henley: La Paz Ribas Henley, $58 — The rich green color and unique short-sleeve construction makes the La Paz Ribas Henley a nice, lightweight layer — it’s a visually interesting combo underneath a short-sleeve shirt, too.
  • The Denim: Taylor Stitch Slim Jeans in Cone Mills Standard, $98 — Ever tried to find that dependable pair of everyday dark denim? The Taylor Stitch Slim Jeans should check that box for ya (also available in a less-slim Democratic fit).
  • The Sneakers: SeaVees Hermosa Plimsoll Standard, $78 — The great thing about this ensemble is that you could wear it with everything from classic suede chukka boots to, well, the SeaVees Hermosa Plimsoll.
  • The Belt: WP Standard Officer’s Belt in Natural, $78 — If you follow me on Instagram, surely you’re aware of the fact that I love my WP Standard Officer’s Belt. Small, rugged design touches like this really can elevate an outfit!
  • The Watch: Form-Function-Form Horween Leather Chronograph, $118.98 — A tough Timex chronograph watch meets a beautiful Horween leather strap? Sounds like the perfect casual watch to me.
  • The Hat: Corridor NYC Cap in Indigo, $45 — In this case, throwing on a ballcap really is your call — but if you’re going to go extra-casual, might as well reach for the eye-catching Corridor NYC Cap in Indigo.
  • The Everyday Bag: J. Stark Prospect Briefcase, $295 — Here’s that durable, rugged everyday bag we talked about from J. Stark. Use it for your laptop, use it for a magazine (I myself like Gear Patrol!) or use it for other essentials — the choice is yours.

That’s another #OOTD all wrapped up nicely, right? Right. The basics make for nice versatility no matter the occasion, from a BBQ to a baseball game to a summer road trip. Layering up a rugged Filson short-sleeve shirt with a cool base layer like the La Paz Ribas Henley also gives you some all-day versatility — simply take off the short-sleeve shirt if it gets too hot. You can also never go wrong with everyday dark denim, especially a pair that’s going to break in nicely and get better with every wear. On the footwear front, you’re also aiming for versatility and cool, breezy style with the SeaVees Hermosa Plimsoll — a classic sneaker pick if ever there was one. I also absolutely love my tough leather belt from WP Standard, and I think you’re going to love yours, as well.  On the accessories front, the perfect casual watch from Timex  truly is an essential pick to go along with this casual, unique look (it’s not every day you see a henley layered under a short-sleeve shirt, after all). Before you step out the door, throw on the Corridor NYC Cap in Indigo and grab the J. Stark Prospect Briefcase — both of those underrated accessories are going to help you go a long way in any summer style scenario. And that’s all I’ve got for you today, folks! Cheers.

#OOTD: How to Wear Your New Favorite Boots, Even in Summer

Although I can nearly hear an audible gasp coming from the assembled crowd now, there’s still plenty good reason for you to wear a pair of rugged leather boots … even in the summer months. It can be done, and it all comes down to time and place. So, that’s where today’s #OOTD is taking us — should you add leather boots to your list of summer style essentials? I, for one, think so. And believe you me, you’re going to want to wear the stylish leather boots featured below as much as you can once you feast your eyes on ’em. The Viberg Service Boots as seen below are truly the exception to the rule when it comes to stowing away your boots for the summer months. If you’re heading out on a camping trip, rocking your way through a music festival — like The National’s Homecoming Festival! — or simply knocking back beers at your favorite microbrewery, there’s something to be said for breaking out a pair of hard-wearing leather boots, particularly on days and nights when the heat isn’t too overwhelming. The other key comes in how you wear these durable leather boots — thus, a classic pocket tee, rugged dark denim and a lightweight overshirt (for a breezy evening) are the pieces we’re calling into duty alongside the Viberg Service Boots. Still skeptical? Follow me.

Lace up your boots, throw on your dark denim and get ready to go, folks.

  • The Grooming Essential: GOA Purifying Face Cleanser, $36 — For fighting the effects of your vices (I.E. Mass beer consumption) on your skin, the GOA Purifying Face Cleanser is premium and very well-made.
So. that’ll wrap up today’s #OOTD. What’s your favorite part of this look? Hopefully, it’s opened up your mind to the potential that a pair of rugged leather boots can bring to the table in terms of style, even in the summer. If you keep the rest of your basics simple and functional, yet visually interesting, like the Finisterre Lerwick Shirt  and the tough Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Tee, you’ll surely be in good shape when breezy summer days and nights roll into town. And much like your leather boots, a pair of stylish dark denim from Taylor Stitch will break in quite nicely over time — so there’s that. Everyday carry essentials like the J. Stark Prospect Briefcase and a functionally minded Timex leather chronograph are also important components of any summer style ensemble, much less one that could go from a farmer’s market trip to a park stroll to a brewery — who’s with me on that? Small touches, like apair of Anonymousism patterned socks or an indigo cap, are cool, unexpected and ready for anything, too. And again, you’re not going to regret investing in a pair of the Viberg Service Boots  — trust me on that. At any rate: It’s time to get out there and explore! Cheers and thanks for reading.
