#OOTD: How to Wear a Denim Shirt Every Summer Weekend (Including This One)

Perhaps, there’s one question that pops up in the front of your mind consistently: What men’s style essentials am I going to wear this summer weekend? Seeing as the calendar is moving ever-closer toward Memorial Day this weekend — and then quickly beyond that — there are plenty of seasonal adventures to be had (here’s a specific idea for what to wear for Memorial Day, too). But again, how are you going to dress for the demands of a summer weekend? Be it a weekend trip away, a backyard BBQ,  casual pre-dinner cocktails with friends, or a day out in the country before driving back to the city … there are a lot of options as to how you can customize your summer. And folks, today’s #OOTD — featuring the best denim shirt on the market — is guaranteed to prove ever-ready for each opportunity. It’s blending the best of casual and crisp style (take the classic white tee shown below) with just enough functionality (a la the comfortable retro sneakers on display). We’re also accessorizing with classic menswear pieces that can work all season long, including a tough stainless steel dive watch and a handy craft beer growler. To me, these are the kind of essentials that exude “casual cool” — not too stuffy, not too sloppy … just right. Raise a glass, crack open a can of your favorite beverage … and then, let’s welcome summer.

So, feeling ready for Memorial Day weekend and the rest of summer? What’s your favorite from the above picks? For me, it’s gotta be a classic Oxford shirt from Flint and Tinder, as ready for happy hour as it is for lounging around at home. Have a great weekend, folks.

Style Pick of the Week: Flint and Tinder 365 Shorts

A classic pair of shorts from one of your author’s favorite brands.

Ahh, yes — it’s the middle of a summer heat wave, and you should start dressing accordingly. On that note, well, what else is there to say about the Flint and Tinder 365 Shorts other than the fact A) You need them ASAP and B) That they’re potentially the best men’s shorts for summer? Well, given that high praise to start this post… I actually have a lot more to say (and all good things, mind you). With Memorial Day bearing down on us and many summer adventures calling, you’re going to need a pair of shorts that work with every single off-duty look you can muster, the type of stylish shorts that you can wear to plenty of warm-weather happy hour outings, BBQs and beach trips.

In that regard, I’m quite pleased to report that the Flint and Tinder 365 Shorts get the job done — and then some. Along with a pair of new sunglasses and perhaps a stylish tee or polo, the right pair of shorts are a make-or-break when it comes to building summer outfits. Cargo shorts are out of the question, as are overly baggy shorts (even if they don’t have an abundance of pockets). No sir, you want to be looking for a pair with a tailored fit and a length that hits above the knee — exactly like the Flint and Tinder 365 Shorts. As sold by our friends at Huckberry, they’re also an excellent value for the quality; in fact, they’re not too different from a “shorts version” of the lauded Flint and Tinder 365 Pants, and that includes the fact that they’re sold in neutral colors like Earth and Moss (all the better to wear all the time).

SHOP: Flint and Tinder 365 Shorts

The Moss colorway is highly versatile and quite stylish, to boot.

Helpfully, the Flint and Tinder 365 Shorts feature the sort of specs and wearability you expect from the F&T brand. That means they’re made from 97 percent cotton and 3 percent Lycra for stretch and all-day comfort, from the coffee shop to the park to the bar (preferably when worn with something like a classic henley and vintage-inspired sneakers). They’re also garment-dyed for extra comfort right out of the box, so they’ll feel like your favorite pair of shorts from the first wear.

Shop Andrew Marc Today!

And although it’s a small attribute, the Flint and Tinder 365 Shorts are preshrunk, so no need to worry about that happening when you wash ’em. We already covered off on the versatile color offerings, but to me, a pair of the Flint and Tinder 365 Shorts  in the Earth (think khaki) shade is as good as it gets, imminently wearable with a navy polo and brown leather loafers or beat-up canvas sneakers and a short-sleeve henley. If you want shorts that are nearly as versatile as your favorite chinos, you should reach for the Flint and Tinder 365 Shorts. They’re so good, you might be tempted to wear them to the office … but save ’em for the weekends instead.

Uuni Koda Portable Pizza Oven — $295

The handy, essential outdoor oven to upgrade your “pizza game.”‘

Is this portable pizza oven a traditional menswear pick, per se? Not quite — but for all your outdoor adventure, camping & grilling needs, the Koda Portable Pizza Oven should come in handy.

Flint and Tinder Garment-Dyed Oxford — $118

The easygoing-yet-sharp shirt you’ll want to wear as often as possible.

Mack Weldon AIRKNITx Boxer Briefs — $28

Easily a new favorite pair of boxer briefs — right? Right.

Nearly $30 for a pair of boxer briefs? Yes indeed — these aren’t your standard boxer briefs. The Mack Weldon AIRKNITx Boxer Briefs blend technical savvy with a classic fit through a microfiber four-way stretch fabric and a moisture-wicking, anti-odor finish. The best boxer briefs you’ll ever own? Very nearly.

Howler Brothers Sunset Scout Shirt — $79

A laidback, easygoing shirt you can wear practically anywhere.

Your search for the perfect summer shirt ends right here — this classic, casual option from Howler Brothers features a timeless camp collar and breathable, textured cotton construction.

Bespoke Post Retreat Box — $45 (When Signing up for Bespoke Post)

If you pick up the Bespoke Post Retreat Box, this could be you.

Another week, another essential Bespoke Post Box. As luck would have it, the Bespoke Post Retreat Box — equipped with an easy-to-carry hammock and blanket combo — is all you need for outdoor relaxation this summer.

Momentum Watches Torpedo Pro 44 — $129.98

The dependable watch to take you through plenty of summer adventures.

Finding a go-to casual watch at an affordable price is something that’s more difficult than you might expect. Not so with the Momentum Watches Torpedo Pro 44, potentially your new favorite field watch.

Mack Weldon AIRKNITx Crew Socks — $24

The comfortable, performance-ready socks you need in your wardrobe.

More gear from Mack Weldon? Yessir. That same excellent, durable, moisture-wicking, anti-odor AIRKNITx technology gets applied to a seriously premium, comfortable, breathable pair of socks.  Are you sold on these yet? You should be. I’d feel comfortable wearing these stylish socks for a long day of travel with your favorite pair of chukka boots — they’re that good.

Those are all of our new summer gear picks today. Did you have a favorite? For my money’s worth, I seriously love the rugged, versatille Taylor Stitch Moto Utility Shirt for all kinds of summer layering potential. Let me know your take on Twitter, and thanks for reading!

#OOTD: How to Build a Casual Outfit Around Your New Favorite Watch

Do you normally think about what watch you’re wearing as you start to put together an outfit? Sure, a great watch is up there on your list of men’s style essentials … but what about building an outfit around one watch? One truly unique, innovative watch, that is? It’s a different take on dressing for spring and summer, but I think it’s one you’ll grow to appreciate and enjoy. Accessories can often make all the difference in an outfit, from stylish sunglasses to the remarkable Grovemade Black Watch 01 we’re featuring today — if you read the blog regularly, you know the small details are surprisingly vital.

Shop Andrew Marc Today! But why build an outfit around a watch? Well, it’s easy — the right watch can instantly elevate more casual or more subtle ensembles, and that’s especially true when it comes to the classic Oxford shirt and slim chinos shown below. The idea is that, whether you wear this #OOTD to the office on casual Friday or to a laidback weekend brunch, you’re going to stand out in the right way — not because you threw on a watch and called it a day, but because these picks are made to go just about anywhere in style. The even better thing about the Grovemade Black Watch 01 is that, like the brand’s other essential gear picks, it goes with just about anything — it’s truly timeless, so you can mix and match as you please with, say, a rugged denim shirt or a crisp white tee and classic light wash denim. For now, let’s show you this full look, shall we?

The watch makes this outfit, but the rest of it is subtly stylish and sharp, too.

Take 30% OFF your order. The Watch: Grovemade Black Watch 01, $230 — If you’re building an #OOTD around your new favorite watch, you might as well ensure that watch is unique as heck and seriously high-quality, to boot. This Grovemade watch is all of that.

  • The Classic Oxford: Flint and Tinder Garment-Dyed Oxford, $118 — Every guy needs an essential Oxford shirt, and this American-made version is subtly stylish — it won’t distract from your standout timepiece.
  • The Chinos: Taylor Stitch Slim Chinos in Organic Olive, $98 — Sometimes, it’s best to keep things simple — a la classic olive chinos from Taylor Stitch. A perfect fit with this #OOTD.
  • The Classic Chukka Boots: Esquivel Hand-Stained Leather Boots, $725 — Is it worth it to drop more than $700 on boots? Well, when they could be the last chukka boots you’ll ever buy — perfectly made, incredibly comfortable, highly versatile — then yes, that’s worth it.
  • The Socks: Civic Merino Socks, $22.50 — Lightweight, comfortable, anti-microbial socks that offer plenty of all-day support? An essential in any outfit, but especially this one. They could be the best men’s socks you wear all spring and summer.
  • The Daily Bag: Bleu De Chauffe Musette Gaston Bag, $229.98 — While the name might at first be a mouthful, you won’t regret picking up this handsome, tough everyday bag. Take it every possible place you can — it’ll serve you well.
  • The Grooming Must-Have: Duke Cannon Emergency Heat + Light Soap, $34 Duke Cannon assuredly makes all of the grooming essentials you didn’t know you needed, including this fresh, pine-scented brick of soap.
  • The EDC Essential: Leatherman Wave Plus Multi-Tool, $100 — You might not need this handy Leatherman multi-tool every day, but if you work in a studio or design shop — or find yourself with a tricky-to-fix task on the go — keep this one on your person.

MenloNR 320x50It can sound a bit off-the-wall at first to start thinking about a watch before you add in other pieces to an #OOTD, right? Ideally though, that approach is going to start making more sense after viewing the above picks — particularly the handsome, entirely unique Grovemade Black Watch 01, a timepiece unlike anything you’ve ever seen (before now, that is). How do the rest of these #menswear picks complement it? Pretty nicely, I’d say. Your best bet is going to be focusing on premium-yet-accessible versions of your favorite menswear staples — take an essential Oxford shirt, for instance, in a spring-friendly garment-dyed wash. It’s perfect to wear as you roll up your sleeves and get to work, and it pairs more than nicely with classic olive chinos from Taylor Stitch — not to mention a pair of simply astonishing Esquivel leather chukka boots.

MenloNR 320x50Those three building blocks right there make this an office-ready outfit in my mind. When you incorporate a tough everyday bag, you’ve got your EDC essentials sorted, including a downright useful Leatherman multi-tool. But before you go anywhere, you need to smell great, simply put. Grooming essentials courtesy of Duke Cannon will sort you out there. And with all that being said, I think you’ve found a way to accessorize and build a highly stylish outfit around your favorite watch — to say the very least.

See Now, Buy Now: Layer Up for Spring with the Unbeatable Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Tee

A dependable, substantial T-shirt to separate you from the pack this spring.

I always say that the little details, the really basic things, often make a difference in matters of men’s style, and so it goes with the best men’s T-shirts — like the exceptional Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Tee. Like I said in the headline above, it’s unbeatable, Although at first it looks like a simple pocket tee, this incredibly well-made number has the potential to be your new favorite T-shirt — and it certainly lives up to that potential. The Heavy Bag Tee clears the high standards set by Taylor Stitch across the board with each of its releases, from the Taylor Stitch Ranch Boots to the indigo shirt that’s one of my all-time favorites.  But again, if it’s just a T-shirt, then what’s the big deal? Not so fast, my friends.
In short, the Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Tee delivers the goods if you want a substantial, stylish and well-crafted tee that’s a step up (a serious step up) from your standard fast-fashion tee. Taylor Stitch knows how to deliver on quality, and the durable upcycled cotton-polyester blend has some heft to it without being overly hard to layer underneath a classic chambray shirt or a rugged trucker jacket. That versatility is good news, because you’ll want to wear the Heavy Bag Tee all the time — the range of colors, from Cypress (as seen at the top) to Cypress Stripe (as seen below) & classic options like Navy are only huge positives. Small details like the rounded chest pocket and taped shoulder seams ensure everything is in its proper place.

SHOP: The Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Tee

But one of the range of color and pattern options you get with the Heavy Bag Tee.

The truly great thing about the Heavy Bag Tee is that thanks to the durable fabric and excellent fit, it almost doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a T-shirt. That is to say, this stylish T-shirt has enough visual interest and heft to wear on its own or layered under something as spring-friendly as a classic cotton blazer at the office. And for your off-duty ‘fits, it teams reliably with your favorite pair of denim and new suede chukka boots. The thing about a shirt as reliable as the Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Tee is that it can be worn just about any way you please — it’s more than just your average tee.

Style Pick of the Week: Garrett Leight Co. Brooks 47 Sunglasses

The super-premium, truly timeless sunglasses to wear this summer.

Now that we’re two weekends into May, maybe you’ve found yourself fumbling about aimlessly for a pair of the best men’s sunglasses and wondering … “Where did that one pair I loved go?” Well, in the event that you’ve lost your favorite sunglasses in between then and now, these Garrett Leight sunglasses are here to save the day — and your eyes — from the sun. The Garrett Leight Co. Brooks 47 Sunglasses are truly one-of-a-kind, and certainly one of the more premium pairs your Style Guide author has seen in some time. You’re investing in this particular pair ($395 via Huckberry), so you’re going to want to take good care of them (and ensure you don’t sit on them or step on ’em as you head to the pool). But like all things great in the menswear world, if you invest the time and money, you’ll reap the rewards.

Save up to $200.Namely, these Garrett Leight sunglasses nail that hard-to-find balance between casual and dressed-up in terms of stylish shades — these aren’t an outrageous pair of sunglasses made to stand out on a runway, nor are they ultra-sporty. Plus, the frames are handmade out of high-quality acetate, a difference you can feel (seriously, compare them to a cheap pair of gas station frames).

SHOP: The Garrett Leight Co. Brooks 47 Sunglasses

They’re available in two color combos, and we can’t recommend ’em enough.

And the Garrett Leight Co. Brooks 47 Sunglasses are made with completely polarized frames and lenses, a novelty in the sunglass world — I haven’t even mentioned that those same lenses are scratch and smudge-resistant, all the better to be worn day after day. And with a pair of ultra-premium Garrett Leight sunglasses, that’s exactly what you’re going to want to do.

MenloNR 320x50Heading to the office wearing a trusty chambray shirt and slim tan chinos? Throw on these Garrett Leight sunglasses.  Heading out on the weekend to your favorite brewery? The Garrett Leight Co. Brooks 47 Sunglasses are the way to go, especially when worn with slim faded denim and a rugged short-sleeve henley. And the real topper? These sunglasses even work at a summer wedding when worn with a khaki cotton suit and brown leather brogues. Bingo.

The Friday Read: Timex Watches, Tread By Everlane & the Best New Spring Gear

Another pair of durable, lightweight Danner boots to take you into the weekend.

Folks, it’s time — well and truly time — to step into the weekend with a pair of the best men’s boots from Danner (as seen above). To me, there’s no better way to close out the week and look forward to the weekend than with a lightweight, versatile pair of boots like the Danner Caprine Boots (aside from listening to The National and enjoying a great cup of coffee, that is). On that note, what’s on your weekend agenda? I’m very, very excited to welcome my parents back to Brooklyn for the first time in more than a year! It’ll be a fun-filled and busy weekend, highlighted by a trip to the Brooklyn Museum’s Frida Kahlo exhibit and of course, plenty of great coffee and brunch. We also plan to experience the mysterious, classic NYC production Sleep No More, an immersive storytelling experience that promises twists and turns around every corner. It’ll be a first for myself since moving to NYC! You can follow along with all the fun on my Instagram, per usual. And for your own weekend planning, I’d suggest you start with the below menswear reads and news pieces — they won’t let you down, trust me.

  • Perhaps you regularly read the digital pages of GearMoose, one of my favorite sites (and not solely because I contribute there frequently!). On that note, I covered an essential spring and summer watch, the Timex Archive MK1 Watch — it’s durable, affordable and made to last. Pair it with your favorite T-shirt and a perfectly broken-in pair of chukka boots for easygoing summer style.
  • If you’re not yet aware, the great folks at Everlane are doing a decidedly stellar job when it comes to crafting the best new pair of sustainable sneakers on the market — that would be the Tread by Everlane Collection, as covered by yours truly at The Manual. In fact, the great thing about these sneakers is how well they pair with the brand’s perfectly cut Oxford shirts and slim dark denim.
  • In my mind, these sorts of things are always worth a reminder and a refresher — that is, you need to check out my guide to the best spring style essentials to buy now. Hopefully, these weekly entries more than get the job done when it comes to upgrading your personal style.

That’s going to close out today’s Friday Read — if you’re still searching for something to read (or for one of the best men’s T-shirts to round out your wardrobe), I’d suggest you check out this piece on your new favorite tee. Cheers!

That means you can wear them all day long, from the office out to an outdoor patio happy hour. #OOTD: How to Dress for Spring and Summer Travel Right Now

You’ve got your travel itinerary all laid out, you’ve got plans in place to check out top craft beer and coffee and brunch spots, you’re fully ready to go on a spring or summer trip … but are you really ready? Not quite — that is to say, not unless you’ve read my guide on how to dress for spring and summer travel. I love hitting the road, and recent trips have taken me from Nashville to Dublin and back. But dressing for those trips … it’s trickier than it might seem at first glance. After all, traveling these days isn’t quite the same as rolling out of bed in college and heading to the airport, spring break sweatpants at the ready.

No sir, a spring and summer travel #OOTD calls for versatility, comfort & style rolled into one convenient package. Ideally, it also features the type of men’s style essentials you can wear throughout your trip, from the perfect travel T-shirt to a lightweight spring jacket and classic slip-on sneakers. These gear picks are polished enough for the airport, comfortable enough for a long flight, and then all that much more ready to take you off the plane and to happy hour without missing a beat. That’s the goal after all, right? Get the full scoop below, then see how I’m dressing for spring and summer travel on my Instagram.

The right mix of travel essentials and versatile accessories for a road trip.

  • The Jacket: Relwen Covert CPO, $237.98 — Hey, there’s a chance you won’t need a stylish lightweight jacket where you’re going. But for inclement weather and all the times in between, Relwen has you covered.
  • The T-Shirt: Proof 72-Hour Merino Tee, $68 — In a similar vein, this performance-minded merino T-shirt from Proof is made for all-day comfort and style, and is ready to be worn off the plane out to dinner.
  • The Pants: Proof Nomad Pants, $98 —  It’s a double-whammy of stylish travel gear from Proof, thanks to these go-anywhere pants that provide polished comfort for long days on the road.
  • The Sneakers: VANS Classic Slip-ons, $50 — Getting through security and to your gate — and then around your final destination — just got way easier with the VANS Classic Slip-ons. Timeless and essential.
  • The Weekender:  Bexar Goods Co. Waxed Canvas LAND Weekender, $359.98 — Let’s be real — this piece right here could just be one of the best weekender bags on the market, easily.
  • The Watch: Timex x Todd Snyder Military Watch, $138 — Spring and summer travel calls for a tough, versatile, stylish field watch — kind of like this Timex x Todd Snyder number. Casual and yet with a bit of rugged polish, too.
  • The Sunglasses: Ombraz Armless Sunglasses, $140 — This #OOTD is all about travel essentials that are ready for anything, and these packable sunglasses seem to fit the bill nicely. They could be your new favorite sunglasses, and you should wear ’em all throughout your trip.
  • The Everyday Carry Essential: This Is Ground Mod 5 Organizer, $385 — In the spirit of staying organized whether traveling for work or play, This Is Ground’s leather EDC organizer is absolutely perfect.

The key with staying cool, comfortable and stylish during spring and summer travel — when you could be going from a chilly airport to a sweltering outdoor patio — involves, well, keeping cool. So, first off: Pack up the Bexar Goods Co. weekender shown above. And then throw on  a merino T-shirt from Proof — it’s going to be a crucial mid-layer that stays polished thanks to its slim fit. When paired up with a lightweight spring jacket, you’re ready for breezy weather or happy hour in equal measure.

That’s also what we’re aiming for with a pair of go-anywhere pants — wear them to the airport, then there’s no need to change as you head to dinner. And if you want to pack light, it’s hard to go wrong with a pair of VANS Classic Slip-ons — they’ll slide on and off with ease to get you through your TSA checkpoint, and they’ll look just as bright and spring-like at your final destination. And once agian, we turn toward classic, crisp, travel-friendly accessories — like a stylish field watch from Timex x Todd Snyder — to get you geared up for seasonal travel. And because battling the sun’s rays is critical this season, a pair of packable sunglasses are a unique addition to your carry-on. Last but certainly not least, whether you hit the road for a business trip or are visiting your favorite brewery, This Is Ground’s leather EDC organizer keeps your essentials in check with ease. OK, folks. Boarding starts soon. Thanks for reading!
