Style Pick of the Week: Nisolo Andres All-Weather Boots

Get ready for early fall –yep –with the best men’s leather boots, courtesy of Nisolo.

If it feels odd at first glance to be talking about some of the best men’s boots in the middle of August, rest assured, we’re just doing our best here at The Style Guide to get everyone ready for early fall with the best men’s gear. And what comes with early fall, along with crisp weather and falling leaves? The need to be ready for anything with a pair of the best boots for men — hence, the rugged leather boots you see here, an ideal pair to buy right now as you stock up for the season ahead. The Nisolo Andres All-Weather Boots (available in rich colors like Brandy and of course, sleek Black) check all the right boxes when it comes to leather boots that are cool and functional at the same time — it’s right in the title, after all. And when it comes to Nisolo as a brand, you can be sure you get what you pay for (snag ’em for $260 at Nisolo or get them at Huckberry).

Nisolo, based out of Nashville, has long been a favorite of the blog, from the lightweight Nisolo Travel Derby to the rugged Nisolo Leon Weekender. But hey, let’s get back to your new favorite boots. As mentioned above, every guy needs a rugged pair of leather boots to throw on and then, well, forget about — the kind of boots that can stand up to breezy summer weather right now, and then work reliably through fall rain and flurries. Again, the Nisolo Andres All-Weather Boots, made with water-resistant, oil-based leather, are the way to go. That’s not all though, folks.

SHOP: The Nisolo Andres All-Weather Boots

Grab these tough leather boots now, then wear them right into fall and even early winter.

To close out your summer — day hikes, bonfires, to-go brewery visits — get these stylish leather boots and wear them with your favorite T-shirt and slim tan chinos. Then, keep them handy come early fall to wear with slim black selvedge denim and a classic chambray shirt (be sure to add a nice dram of whiskey on the side). Of course, tough leather boots are nothing if they’re not built for the long haul, so Nisolo built these on a Vibram 430 Mini Lug sole for added grip and traction. Last but not least, a soft leather lining ensures supreme comfort — no matter how long you wear these classic leather boots. It sounds to me like you can’t beat the Nisolo Andres All-Weather Boots, can you? Once again, you can snag them for $260 at Nisolo or get them at Huckberry. Happy shopping, folks.

#OOTD: Here’s How to Wear The Best Men’s Chinos for Summer

If you thought you knew everything about how to wear chinos for summer, I’m here to tell you to think again. Namely, the best men’s chinos are, first and foremost, going to shake up exactly how you pull together the rest of the look — one great piece can’t help but elevate the rest of your game. Of course, when you kick off your #OOTD with Todd Snyder slim-fit chinos, things get a whole lot cooler (and better) from there. We’ve talked plenty on the blog about how to wear chinos, but now that we’re essentially entering July (gasp!), maybe you want to switch things up a bit. Today, I’ll give you a few pointers on how to do just that. While you could easily wear, say, one of the best Oxford shirts and a navy cotton blazer with this look, we’ll be taking it a more casual, rugged direction. For instance: A stylish lightweight short-sleeve shirt does the heavy lifting here, and a more traditional summer jacket is swapped out with a durable chore jacket for unique summer style. Naturally, we’ll dive into some stylish everyday carry essentials and other gear picks that are crucial to giving this look its seriously cool, modern appeal. But lest we forget: You’ve got to get the best chinos for men to make it all work, so let’s start there. Enjoy the full ensemble below, folks.

Classic chinos worn in fresh, modern way.

  • The Chinos: Todd Snyder Slim-Fit Tab Front Stretch Chinos, $118 — Trust me — any summer #OOTD should start with the best men’s chinos, and these Todd Snyder chinos fit that definition perfectly. Dressy-yet-laidback, highly versatile … some of the best pants for men this season, easily.
  • The Stylish Short-Sleeve Shirt: Buck Mason Draped Twill Shirt, $85 — Just as reliably as Buck Mason makes one of the best denim shirts, so to do they come through with one of the best short-sleeve shirts for summer.
  • The Summer Jacket: Freemans Sporting Club Chore Jacket, $330 — To shake things up a bit, reach for a rugged chore jacket, one made from lightweight Japanese denim, to layer up on breezy summer days and nights.
  • The Perfect Summer Shoes: Nisolo Chamberlain Penny Loafers, $124 — This #OOTD mixes high and low, like a rugged chore jacket alongside slim chinos, so best keep mixing it up with these stylish leather loafers.
  • The Watch: VAER Watches C5 Heritage Leather Watch, $250 — You know what this ensemble needs? A stylish leather watch, one that’s going to add some rugged polish to this look (which itself is suited for date night at home or to-go cocktails).
  • The Belt: Billykirk No. 117 Mechanic’s Belt, $99 — We’re all about the accessories here on the blog, and the best leather belt is a must-have — especially when it’s made by Billykirk. Go ahead and mix your leather shades here — I won’t tell a soul.
  • The Sunglasses: Roav Lennox Foldable Sunglasses, $175 — Yes, that’s right — you can fold these stylish sunglasses up and take ’em with you on the go. Are they the coolest sunglasses I’ve seen in some time because of that? Yessir.
  • The Summer Sipper: Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey, Price Varies — Let’s talk whiskey for one second. While I love a summer beer as much as the next guy, I’ve found Proper No. Twelve to be a surprisingly enjoyable summer sipper when enjoyed on the rocks or with some club soda. Perhaps you’ll feel the same about Connor McGregor’s whiskey brand, no?

Alright, so perhaps this #OOTD is now changing how you think about, well, how to wear chinos this summer, right? Critically, it all starts with some Todd Snyder chinos that balance dressy and casual style quite nicely (if I do say so myself). We’ll take it a step further with something that’s perhaps expected, but no less cool — one of the best short-sleeve shirts for summer, courtesy of our pals at Buck Mason. How do you shake things up even further beyond that? Go for a rugged chore jacket to give this look some extra edge, then slide right into stylish leather loafers for a nice change of pace (seriously, Nisolo makes some of the most sustainable men’s footwear out there, too). Naturally, this look calls for stylish accessories that stand out in the right way — enter the best leather belt from Billykirk, then accent it with a stylish leather watch from VAER Watches for all-day style and durability. And for functional day-to-night style on the go (socially distanced), I think you’ll certainly find some unique, foldable sunglasses are just the right move here. Pop ’em in the pocket of your denim chore jacket when the sun goes down. Of course, what’s this look missing? Why a fine summer sipper in the form of Proper No. Twelve whiskey — how’s that sound? Can’t get any better. If you’ve got thoughts on this look, head to Twitter to give me your take. Thanks for reading — stay stylish!

The Friday Read: The Best Summer Shoes, Rogue Ales & Beards for a Good Cause

Dependable high-top sneakers to wear all summer long.

Let’s start this Friday Read off right with a look at some of the best men’s sneakers, shall we? The Nisolo Cortez High-Top Sneakers are positively some of the best summer shoes you need in your rotation, and seeing as we’ve moved past Memorial Day, I’d say it’s time you geared up. You surely recognize Nisolo from the blog as makers of the excellent Nisolo Travel Derby and even a stylish weekender bag. But, seeing as we’re all staying close to home for the time being, those rugged high-top sneakers should work nicely in the interim. Now, onward and into the Friday Read. Times continue to be strange and difficult for many of us, so thank you for taking time out of your day and weekend to stop by the blog. Pressing style matters await to divert your attention, but right off the bat, I’m going to call out tge that inimitable menswear designer Todd Snyder is running a sale of up to 30 percent off on the covetable Todd Snyder x Champion line, among other items — perhaps the perfect summer sweatshirt is within your grasp via one of the best men’s style sales out there.

As for me, when I’m not dreaming about a new Todd Snyder sweatshirt for breezy summer nights, I plan on spinning some new vinyl (as usual!) — this week’s prime pick is the lovely “Vide Noir” by folk rockers Lord Huron. I’m also going to be supporting some local businesses. I recently picked up the Road House Coffee Blend from Brooklyn’s own Variety Coffee Roasters, and I’ve also got a shipment incoming of delicious, fresh craft beer from another Brooklyn staple, Threes Brewing. Of course, there’s also another Style Pick of the Week post incoming tomorrow so some writing will be on the docket, too. Be sure to join us for that, and in the meantime, here are the rest of the weekend’s top picks.

  • A brand that specializes in some of the best men’s denim might not be the first place you’d go to get a face mask during these trying times, but in fact, they could be a perfect option (think of all that useful, tough fabric). I’m talking, of course, about Fitted NYC in this case. The Williamsburg-based denim brand (as I covered for The Manual back in 2018!) is now making selvedge denim face masks — talk about style and safety rolled into one durable offering.
  • In the way of other men’s style brands making face masks, get a load of what cool-as-can-be style purveyors Faherty Brand are doing. They’ve got a selection of surprisingly stylish face masks (non-medical grade) for you to wear when out and about — that’s in addition to their excellent collection of cozy, comfortable Work From Home style essentials they’re also making.
  • Ever felt like growing out a beard and really going for it? Perhaps you’re doing something similar now, in fact? What if I told you that you could grow out your beard & donate toe a good cause in the process? For my friends in Pennsylvania in particular, the Abington Interfaith Food Cupboard has been working with the previously beardless Drew — our man Drew’s been growing out his beard, and a $10 donation to Drew’s Beard Challenge gives you the chance to vote on what happens next with his beard … and he’s got to keep it that way for five days. How could you not want to pitch in on that?? Donate here via Supportful.

  • Let’s pivot to some of the best craft beer for your weekend imbibing, shall we? West Coast-based Rogue Ales & Spirits  is rising to the occasion to meet the demands of thirsty consumers who can’t visit its physical locations. They’re now shipping beer to Oregon, Washington D.C., Nebraska, Ohio and Nevada, while also offering free beer & spirits delivery in the Portland, Oregon area. And you can also pick up your beer from one of its Oregon locations —  or  use this tracker to find it in all 50 states! Pretty great news all around, right? Cheers.

OK, let’s close things out right with one last feature before your weekend starts (or continues) in earnest. The right summer shirt is crucial to have on hand. While your rugged flannel shirting has long been stowed away, consider keeping a stylish denim shirt close at hand. In particular, check out the Buck Mason Vintage Denim Shirt via this blog post. If you do pick it up, feel free to let me know on Twitter. Alright, that’s all I’ve got. Stay safe and stay strong, folks!

#OOTD: A New Way to Wear A Stylish Short-Sleeve Shirt for Summer

Maybe you’ve got a very specific look in mind when it comes to a stylish short-sleeve shirt — and perhaps, it just so happens to be a look that’s not actually stylish (Think: Maybe the short-sleeve shirts your dad used to wear?). We’re stepping it up in a big way today for the rest of summer, introducing you to what could just be your favorite short-sleeve shirt — and it should come as no surprise that it comes from Taylor Stitch in a handsome indigo fabric. See, it’s already a major improvement from other short-sleeve shirts. The best short-sleeve shirts on the market actually offer more versatility than you think, giving you the option to wear them to a rooftop cocktail hour or even to the office on a casual Friday — that’s the case with the Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt as seen below, at least. It’s the same fit you know and love, done in a way that just works for summer (namely, the lack of fabric on your arms). And when you pair it with slim chinos from Flint and Tinder, plus a sleek pair of refined leather slip-ons, you’re looking at a shirt that’s seriously sharp — not sloppy (a la Dwight Schrute). We’re even mixing in a stylish leather dress watch for good measure. The whole #OOTD below is visually interesting and versatile, fitting for a weekend patio dinner or weeknight rooftop drinks — or, again, a day at the office (the Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt never fails). Rethink what you thought you knew about the short-sleeve shirt, then let’s get down to business.

The Best Basics. Summer Ready.

A switched-up way to wear your new short-sleeve shirt from Taylor Stitch — cheers!

  • The Shirt: Taylor Stitch Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt in Mini Indigo Waffle, $98 — Your favorite menswear brand is now making your favorite short-sleeve shirt in a handsome indigo fabric — a perfect way to switch things up.
  • The Classic Chinos: Flint and Tinder Cool Chinos, $98 — Ditch the heavy pleated chinos of days gone by and opt for sleek, slim chinos from Flint and Tinder — lightweight and breezy to keep you cool.
  • The Stylish Slip-Ons: Nisolo Alejandro Woven Slip-Ons, $178 — These refined leather slip-ons are the right way to switch up your summer footwear — wear them out to a lovely patio dinner.
  • The Watch: Lonegrade HDR140 Watch, $415 — While you could go with a casual NATO strap watch, this stylish leather dress watch from Lonegrade keeps things refined.
  • The Everyday Essentials: Bespoke Post Worn Box, $45 — For a stylish night on the town, reach for the Bespoke Post Worn Box, featuring a slim leather belt and a handy money clip — easy as that.
  • The Sunglasses: Garrett Leight Brooks 47 Sunglasses, $395 — Again, with refinement and versatility in mind, these stylish sunglasses are newly iconic, and perhaps some of the best men’s sunglasses around.
  • The Grooming Essential: Duke Cannon Solid Cologne Kit, $75 — Step up yoiur scents with one of three options from Duke Cannon — their Solid Cologne is a personal favorite, and it’ll keep you smelling great even in the heat.
  • The Essential Basic: Flint and Tinder Heritage Boxer Briefs, $28 — Take care of all the details that matter with the lauded Flint and Tinder Heritage Boxer Briefs.

Shop Mott & Bow Today! So, do you think you’ve found your favorite short-sleeve shirt quite yet? Or a new way to wear it? Hopefully — and ideally, it’ll pair up nicely with slim chinos from Flint and Tinder for a nice mix of high-low style. When you use a slim short-sleeve shirt in rich indigo fabric as the base of your outfit, you’re setting the tone quite nicely — again, this isn’t a short-sleeve shirt of years past. You’re also making it clear that things are different when it comes to your refined leather slip-ons — dressier than white canvas sneakers, more laidback and summer-friendly than lace-up leather brogues. The rest of your accessories should also set the tone for a summer cocktail hour or a weekend dinner, from your stylish leather dress watch to a pair of the best men’s sunglasses — yes, that’s right. The best. The key with this entire ensemble comes in sticking to your guns: Keeping things summer-friendly and casual, yet cool. Duke Cannon’s Solid Cologne is an underrated grooming essential to take this look to the next level, and the Bespoke Post Worn Box, with a handsome money clip, keeps things nice and streamlined. How else to close out this #OOTD? Why, with a pair of the Flint and Tinder Heritage Boxer Briefs as an essential basic. Looking forward to the rest of summer? I know I am.

See Now, Buy Now: These Leather High-Top Sneakers from Nisolo Are a New Seasonal Favorite

The rugged-yet-casual, seriously cool sneakers to buy for spring and summer.

I make no “if’s, and’s or but’s” about it — you need a pair of stylish leather sneakers in your rotation this summer, and you need a pair as soon as possible. As a matter of fact, you need a pair of high-top sneakers not unlike the Nisolo Cortez Mid-Top Sneakers, made with every bit as much attention to detail as a Nisolo weekender bag or the Nisolo x Huckberry Travel Derby. These leather high-top sneakers are shockingly versatile and made responsibly — plus, they’re as ready to wear to the office with slim light wash jeans and a classic cotton blazer as they are on the weekend. What makes them so terrific? Well, dear reader, I’m glad you asked. If you’re familiar with Nisolo, you know that the brand uses ethical manufacturing practices and works with one of Mexico’s top factories to churn out modern-day essentials — kind of like the Nisolo Cortez Mid-Top Sneakers, in fact. But as luck would have it, that’s only the tip of the iceberg; there are plenty of reasons why these are some of the best men’s sneakers you can slip your feet into this season.

SHOP: The Nisolo Cortez Mid-Top Sneakers

A classic pair of finely crafted leather sneakers that can pull double-duty this spring.

Yes indeed, these stylish high-top sneakers really get the job done in a multitude of ways. They’ve got construction akin to that of your favorite pair of leather boots, featuring a vegetable-tanned leather upper and a sturdy, comfortable Vibram sole. That means you can wear them all day long, from the office out to an outdoor patio happy hour. The rich brown Tobacco leather on the Nisolo Cortez Mid-Top Sneakers also goes with a multitude of spring style essentials, from tan chinos and a white Oxford shirt to a rugged short-sleeve henley and a pair of classic dark blue denim. The key with a pair of sneakers like this? Don’t overthink — just get as much wear as you can out of them. Sounds good to me. How about you?

Style Pick of the Week: Nisolo x Huckberry Travel Derby

Crisp, versatile derby shoes that just so happen to be perfect for summer travel.

Any list of summer style essentials calls for travel gear that can stand up to anything, right? Particularly when it comes to versatile travel shoes, I’d say. That’s why we’re here with an all-new, hot-off-the-presses, Style Pick of the Week. The Nisolo x Huckberry Travel Derby, released just a few days ago, are nothing short of the must-have shoes you need for your next summer trip. You can snag them via the Nisolo site, or via Huckberry — so there’s really no reason not to pick up a pair, right? Right.

That’s high praise, to be sure, but you can’t beat a pair of classic Oxford shoes that combine comfort, mobility and versatility. The brand made these exclusively for our pals at Huckberry, and they know a great pair of kicks when they see one. Believe you me, the Travel Derby is a great pair of kicks. The no-break-in suede upper on the Nisolo x Huckberry Travel Derby is a critical touch, truly crucial for comfort right out of the box (especially if you’re going to be wearing these for summer travel). I’m talking the sort of travel that might take you from the office to a train or a plane, then out the door to dinner. The Travel Derby has you covered. And the soft leather insole also molds to your foot, making these casual suede Oxfords easy to wear with stylish no-show socks. The XL Xtralight foam outsole is also plenty comfortable, featuring a laidback wedge shape, to boot. So, the Travel Derby has got what you might call the “comfort + specs” part of the equation down pat.

The great thing about the Travel Derby? You can wear ’em on the road, or pack ’em away with ease for summer trips aplenty.

The Nisolo x Huckberry Travel Derby also checks some crucial boxes in terms of styling potential. The silhouette and design is clean and classic, all the better for wearing with all manner of casual Friday looks. Take the Travel Derby and pair it with slim light wash jeans, a navy T-shirt and a lightweight khaki blazer — you’re set to close out the work week, and the only thing you need to hit the road is a stylish vintage leather messenger bag. And when you get where you’re headed this summer? Wear the Nisolo x Huckberry Travel Derby with slim stone chinos and a short-sleeve chambray shirt for style that’s quite happy hour-friendly. What’s the capper on the Travel Derby? It just might be the fact that these are ethically produced in Mexico — it’s that attention to detail that lends itself to a seriously stylish pair of summer shoes.  If you haven’t already decided to purchase the Nisolo x Huckberry Travel Derby, my only question is … what are you waiting for?

Head to Huckberry to get the Nisolo x Huckberry Travel Derby ASAP.

The Friday Read: The Nisolo Holiday Gift Bundle, Barking Irons and LusterWhite Premium Toothpaste

Alright, we made it to Friday — raise a glass! Or crack open a cold one and kick back. It’s the welcome end to a long week here in NYC, one that caps off a busy five days of work following my latest Style Guide trip to celebrate a Florida Thanksgiving with my family! It was a long weekend complete with an amazing Thanksgiving meal, plus many helpings of leftovers in the days following. I even got some shopping done for Black Friday — you can check out my Instagram in the coming days for more in that regard. And why should you follow along on Instagram, exactly? Well, I’m heading back down to Florida this weekend to visit my sister for the 97x Next Big Thing music festival in lovely Tampa Bay! I’m excited to hit the road tonight to take in a great, great weekend of live music featuring some seriously fun, seriously powerful bands (many of whom I’ve had the chance to see in and around NYC as of late!).

That includes the festival’s two main headliners, The Lumineers and Paramore, along with other highly enjoyable groups like Canadian pop-rockers Arkells, New Jersey’s own Bleachers, the always-fun MisterWives  out of NYC, groovy indie rockers Portugal. The Man and upbeat dance rockers Saint Motel! That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though. It promises to be a sunny, fun weekend in Florida — I couldn’t be more excited to once again break out some warm weather style essentials, just as in past road trips to Florida, and it’s certainly a treat to embark on another Style Guide road trip centered around stellar music. Now, I know we can’t all be so fortunate as to head to warm weather every weekend … if you’ll be battling chilly temperatures, I’d recommend a stylish pair of boots like the Nisolo Andres Boots, our most recent Style Pick of the Week here on the blog.  And if holiday shopping is in the cards for you — as it should be — then you’d do well to check out this site’s picks as to the best gifts for men. But more on that very, very shortly. For now, you can join me on Instagram to follow along with all the fun this weekend, and you should stick around tomorrow to check out our next Style Pick of the Week. Alright, now it’s off to catch my flight!

  • OK, folks — have we got a heck of a deal for you. Launching today (that’s December 1st), the good folks at Nisolo — of Andres Boot fame — are offering a men’s holiday gift bundle and an equally stellar women’s holiday gift bundle that you’re not going to want to miss. Now through December 24th, customers (that’d be you!) can spend $35 to  get $250 worth of shopping credit at “bundle” brands — in short, we’re talking five brands and five gift cards good for $50 at each brand. What’s in store at each brand? Well, we’ve got rugged outdoor gear from United By Blue, beautiful bags from ONA, high-quality tailoring from Ledbury and stylish men’s boots from Nisolo, among other highlight in the men’s gift bundle. Seriously, what’s not to love about that? Again, you can get the men’s holiday gift bundle and the women’s holiday gift bundle (for yourself or someone else!) through December 24th.
  • Wearing a casual T-shirt this holiday season doesn’t have to be sloppy. Over my Thanksgiving trip to Florida, I found myself reaching for a Barking Irons tee time and again, featuring soft fabric and a retro fit. If that sounds good to you, you might want to pick up the “War Is Over” Tee from Barking Irons, or one of the brand’s other sharp graphic tees. They’d make a great gift for the guy who appreciates standout casual style, too.
  • Let’s talk a bit of grooming today on the blog, and specifically, how to keep your teeth in prime shape during the holiday season. Between red wine, chocolate, craft beer and more, keeping your teeth white can be a tall order. So, I’ve been testing out LusterPremiumWhite and the brand’s PowerWhite Deep Stain Eraser Flouride Toothpaste (courtesy of the brand) these past few weeks, and I truly can’t recommend the brand enough! It even helped me soar through my last dentist appointment with flying colors (well, sort of). Grab a tube now.

And with that, I say goodbye until … tomorrow!

Enjoy the weekend!

Holiday 2017

The List: Kick off Early Fall with the Best Men’s Gear

As we’ve been saying for a while now on The Style Guide, fall will be here before you know it. It’s the best time of the year for #menswear, what with a return to texture-heavy outfits, rugged layering and old style favorites — plus the chance to hit the road for crisp fall weekend adventures galore. And we’re getting into the swing of things a few weeks before the official start of fall with today’s edition of The List. Unlike our last edition of The List, which focused on the best gear to buy to close out summer, we’re looking toward menswear essentials with a bit more grit, a bit more rugged style and a bit more fall-ready wearability. Am I the only one excited for that first crisp fall day? Maybe? Well, let’s change that as quick as we can.  Follow me on Instagram to see how I’m getting ready for fall — and know that we’re officially going to debut our Fall Style Wish List later this week.

Original Penguin Pigment Overprint Shirt — $89

A thoughtfully crafted shirt, perfect for fall layering.

Early fall is an ideal time to reach for pieces with a bit more texture and visual interest — this richly colored Original Penguin shirt would team nicely with the brand’s Bedford Cords as seen above.

OK, my friends — that’s today’s edition of The List! Who’s ready for fall? And what was your favorite pick? I’m loving the Bespoke Post Savor Box and of course, the Taylor Stitch California Shirt. Let me know via the comments below or on Twitter — thanks for reading, and happy shopping!

The Sneakers:  Rancourt and Co. Carson Low in Natural Canvas, $175 — Made in America to exacting standards, these Rancourt and Co. sneakers are a more durable answer to classic white canvas sneakers — and all the better for it.

The Socks: Arvin Goods No-show Socks, $30 (Three-pack) — Because it’s not quite fall yet, we’re still rolling up our chinos to show off those USA-made sneakers — and Arvin Goods no-show socks are critical in that regard.

The Belt: Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt in Chestnut, $80 — Tired of buying cheap accessories? This handsome, extremely well-made Sturdy Brothers belt is the upgrade you need for fall.

The Watch:  Timex Stainless Steel Waterbury Watch, $119 — Told you we’d be breaking out durable everyday accessories, right? This rugged stainless steel dive watch from Timex is a steal in terms of price and looks.

The Sunglasses: Classic Specs Lowerree Aviators, $88 — Perhaps you’re not familiar with Classic Specs  — I know I wasn’t — but pieces like these stylish Aviator sunglasses should change that in a hurry.

The Everyday Carry: Nisolo Lori Leather Tote, $134.98 — Wary of carrying a rugged leather tote when you normally haul around a stylish messenger bag? This handsome leather tote bag  is a new way to switch up your everyday carry.

Alright, then. Have a better idea of how to wear your new favorite Oxford shirt? When you start with a piece as classic and simply constructed as the Line of Trade navy Oxford shirt shown above, the possibilities are nearly endless. However, your Style Guide author thinks that keeping things straightforward is the best way to go. That is to say, slim chinos and natural canvas sneakers from Rancourt and Co. are standout building blocks for any outfit.  Add in fall-ready accessories like a rugged stainless steel dive watch from Timex  and a durable leather belt from Sturdy Brothers, and you’re set for this #OOTD — and plenty more outfits in the season ahead.  No outfit — especially one featuring a classic navy Oxford shirt — is complete without finishing touches like stylish Aviator sunglasses and a handsome leather tote bag, though. So, just as with many of your other favorite #menswear pieces, the little details matter, and starting things off with easily wearable essentials is the best way to say goodbye to one season and look toward the next.

The Ballcap: Huckberry Explorer’s Cap — $38
Huckberry Explorer's Cap

Grab this ballcap, toss it on and hit the road — it’s perfect for travel and Labor Day weekend particularly.

Among #menswear picks you see pop up consistently on this site, the Huckberry Explorer’s Cap might top that list. Maybe it’s the fact that these vintage-inspired ballcaps are so well-made and subtly stylish, yet it’s the perfect spring and summer … and fall … and winter accessory to me. When you want to keep the sun off your face this Labor Day weekend, there’s not a better ballcap out there to grab.
The Essential: Orange Vessel Co. Stoneware Growler — $69.98
Stoneware Vessel Co.

Perhaps the best way to transport your favorite beer — and keep it fresh and flowing at your destination.

Now, is beer a “must-have” essential in the way that the Huckberry Explorer’s Cap or a Taylor Stitch shirt-jacket might be? Surely not. And if you’re hopping on a plane this Labor Day weekend, well, this Orange Vessel Co. growler will have to stay behind. But if you’re making the trek to a friend’s house and can spare some room in your ride? This durable growler can more than handily help you transport your favorite craft beer.
Gifts for the Host: Brooklyn Slate Company Slate Coasters — $27 AND Spiegelau IPA Glasses, Set of Four — $32
Spiegelau

Two gifts that pair nicely with one another — oh, and great beer.

Yet again, let’s keep in mind a golden rule of travel: Always bring a gift for the host. Or in this case, gifts. And hey, there’s some beer in the mix again! Brooklyn Slate Company makes a coaster that’s, dare I say it … stylish and rugged. And Spiegelau crafts some of the more unique glassware in the beer world — bring along the Orange Vessel Co. growler and fill it with your favorite IPA. Those IPA glasses will do the rest of the work.

Ready for some fun in the sun — and a few choice brews — this Labor Day? I know I am. And I hope you’ll be packing and wearing the best men’s summer gear for the occasion. I can’t recommend easily wearable pieces like an American-made T-shirt and a rugged Taylor Stitch shirt-jacket enough — from the beach to the bonfire, both layers absolutely work. Accessories like the Huckberry Explorer’s Cap are definitely critical, as is a rugged casual watch and the right weekender bag. It’s also critical to remember stylish shorts, and luckily for the both of us, the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shorts fit the bill nicely. Packing up men’s grooming essentials is pretty critical when it comes to staying fresh — let the Harry’s Essential Travel Shave Kit do the work for ya. I’d definitely be remiss if I didn’t remind you to bring along stylish sunglasses (preferably something retro-inspired like the Steven Alan Bristol Sunglasses). Lastly, don’t leave home without your favorite brew — the Orange Vessel Co. growler helps check that box. How will you be dressing for Labor Day? And what do you think of the above picks?  Let me know via The Style Guide Facebook page!
