See Now, Buy Now: Layer Up This Fall with the Outerknown Lowtide Hoodie

A stylish hooded sweatshirt? That’s what we’re talking today.

Is there such a thing as a stylish hooded sweatshirt? Absolutely — and the Outerknown Lowtide Hoodie might have just answered that question for you. Crucially, the Lowtide Hoodie is here just in time to combat early fall nights where it’s breezy but not cold enough for a heavy coat — you certainly need a layer like that when it comes to menswear essentials.  Just as with dressing for a bonfire or one last evening on the beach or at your lake — the best nights, by the way — seasonally appropriate style is still called for. And that means the Outerknown Lowtide Hoodie is a prime addition to our ongoing See Now, Buy Now series. What’s the biggest step in picking a stylish hooded sweatshirt? Well, Style Guide reader … there are two, actually. It starts, first and foremost, with picking the right fabric — the Lowtide Hoodie features a textured terry toweling cloth exterior and a brushed fleece interior. That means the Outerknown Lowtide Hoodie feels great to wear over  a classic men’s T-shirt while providing breathability and protection from a slight evening chill at the same time. The Lowtide Hoodie is a perfectly casual piece, featuring raglan sleeves for a flattering fit and mobility. The Olive colorway of this Outerknown hoodie also makes it easygoing and laidback, easy to style with slim light wash jeans or your favorite chino shorts.  It gets better, though.

Outerknown makes all of its gear — including the Lowtide Hoodie, of course — with that critical blend of sustainability and style in mind. And there’s a reason this tee is perfect for the last few outdoor evenings of the season — Outerknown is designed in part by legendary surfer Kelly Slater, a guy who knows a thing or two about the great outdoors. That also means the Lowtide Hoodie looks at ease atop a rugged henley around a bonfire — and it looks just as simply stylish when you wear it under a black denim jacket for watching Saturday kickoff with your buddies. See, a versatile, stylish hooded sweatshirt can be found — and the Lowtide Hoodie might be the best place to start.

That’s it for this week’s See Now, Buy Now entry — stay stylish!

Fall 2017 Men’s Style Wish List

Today marks a post that I always look forward to here at The Style Guide — a look toward a new season, the start of the best time in menswear …. our annual Fall Style Wish List. If you can believe it, this is a tradition that dates all the way back to 2014 … pretty wild, ehh?  And the good news is, we’re back this year with a list of men’s style essentials that’s even bigger and better than ever. Fall ties together so many things that make #menswear great, from the opportunity to pile on added layers to the chance to step out in rugged gear at nearly all times. So, stylish wingtip boots, a rugged striped henley and dark blue denim all join our wardrobe rotations yet again.  Trust me, this is the gear to buy for the  season.  And plenty of brands are harkening back toward classic styles while updating them with modern fits and fabrics. That means we’ve got plenty of rugged style essentials to cover in our Fall 2017 Style Wish List. Without further ado … stow your beach gear, put away those flip-flops and load up on the best menswear for the fall season. We’re ranking these picks in no particular order, so you can chime in with your favorites on Twitter or follow along as I style some of my top seasonal picks on Instagram.  We’ll see you out there!

Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Henley — $98 (When Signing Up for Bespoke Post)
Taylor Stitch

The rugged fall layer your closet needs now — courtesy of Taylor Stitch, naturally.

If you follow along with our Style Pick of the Week series, you recognize this stylish, well-crafted Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Henley. Made from premium fabric that’s at once hearty and breathable, this slim striped henley could be one of the more versatile pieces you pick up this fall. It layers with ease under a chambray shirt, it works quite well underneath a black moto jacket and it looks casual and rugged all on its own. Taylor Stitch does it again.

Mark Albert Classic Chelsea Boot — $225
Mark Albert Chelsea boots

Supremely well-crafted and more than ready for fall.

Stylish leather Chelsea boots have turned into a must-have every season of the wear, darn near. But there’s something about the Mark Albert Classic Chelsea Boot that makes it seem particularly ready for fall. From the rugged, rich brown leather to the tough construction and the ability to pair up with rugged seasonal staples with ease, I’d say these Mark Albert Chelsea boots are a tremendous bet on the footwear front.

Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket — $148
Taylor Stitch

A stunning shirt jacket from Taylor Stitch that’s going to look the part when it comes to fall excursions.

Let’s add another item from Taylor Stitch to this fall style wish list, ehh?  When it comes to rugged fall layering, you need more than just a striped henley — you need something that’s well-crafted, versatile and eye-catching … in the best way possible. That’s where the Maritime Shirt Jacket comes into play — it’s going to look right at home with slim dark denim and your favorite pair of brown leather boots.

Roark Revival HWY 41 Denim Jacket — $79.98
Roark Reviva

A jacket that exudes timeless style and more than a bit of rock n’roll cool.

Want a stylish denim jacket that’s anything but ordinary? Then you’re going to want the Roark Revival HWY 41 Denim Jacket, a silhouette that’s at once edgy and yet just a bit classic. It’s the kind of jacket that could easily be worn cruising down the highway on a motorcycle — right? And yet, even if you don’t own a chopper …. there’s something cool and fall-ready about this rugged denim jacket.

Taylor Stitch Slim Jean in Cone Mills Standard — $69 (When Signing Up for Bespoke Post)
Taylor Stitch denim

The ideal way to complement the rest of your Taylor Stitch gear — agreed?

OK, so we’re not quite done with Taylor Stitch menswear in this list yet.  If you’ve already stocked up with a slim striped henley and a rugged shirt jacket, what better way to finish off your ensemble than with a pair of classic dark blue denim? Did I mention they’re made in America and available for under $7o — yes, $70 — when you sign up for Bespoke Post? There you go.
Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT Watch — $498
Huckberry x Lum-Tec

Just the sturdy, durable timepiece you need on your wrist this fall.

When I think fall style, I certainly think of rugged, tough menswear staples — and your watch shouldn’t be an exception to that trend. The Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT Watch is a beastly timepiece that doesn’t mess around — it’s a durable watch stands up visually (and physically) to other hearty menswear pieces. I’m thinking the Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT would pair well with the legendary Taylor Stitch Rover Jacket and perhaps those slim Cone Mills denim jeans as seen above.

Original Penguin Pigment Overprint Shirt — $89

Original Penguin

A uniquely colored, richly textured shirt for fall layering.

Fall calls for darker, richer colors, just as it calls for heartier and more rugged textures. This Original Penguin overprint shirt brings in a little bit of both. The pigmented denim-type texture and rich color (Pomegranate, to be specific) give it some weight and visual interest — it’s the perfect pairing with grey selvedge denim and sharp black Chelsea boots.

Flint and Tinder 10-Year Pullover — $89

A decidedly stylish hooded sweatshirt upgrade.

Plenty of gear from Flint and Tinder regularly makes the pages of this site — and for good reason. The brand crafts its staple pieces — like the Flint and Tinder 10-Year Collection of stylish hoodies — in America, and with plenty of attention to detail.  The 10-Year Pullover in particular would be a fine addition to any lineup of men’s style staples; it’s the sort of sweatshirt that you can even wear over a classic Oxford shirt this fall without missing a beat.

Bradley Mountain Rambler Duffle in Brush Brown — $279

A rough-and-tumble bag that’s ready for any fall adventure you can dream up.

Our fall style wish list is about more than clothes, mark my words. Case in point: The stylish weekender bag you need to bring with you on fall adventures aplenty. The Rambler Duffle is aptly named and aptly constructed; it’s the perfect size for a weekend away, with enough room for you to pack your other favorites from this list (the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket, anyone?).
Hudson Shoes Corelli Suede Dip Dye Boots — $198 (When Signing up for Bespoke Post)

Textured, rugged suede chukka boots fit right in with the cooler climes of fall.

Did we save the best for last? Well, I personally love the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket, so I can’t be sure. But I’m certainly sure of the fact that the Corelli Suede Dip Dye Boots are a heck of a fall style pick-up thanks to the seasonally ready color and texture. Plus, the slim-yet-substantial profile if these Hudson Shoes boots teams well with slim Cone Mills denim or dark black denim in equal measure — just add that Taylor Stitch merino henley we discussed earlier, and you’re good to go.

Alright, Style Guide readers — did you stick with us until the end? Which of the above picks did you most gravitate toward? I certainly can’t get enough of rugged suede chukkas like the Hudson Shoes Corelli Suede Dip Dye Boots, and it’s really tough to top something as essential as the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket … but that’s just one man’s opinion! What do you think? Weigh in via the comments below or at the Style Guide’s Facebook page!

#OOTD: Wear This Black Denim Jacket for Early Fall

How are you prepping for fall? And what are we excited about when it comes to #menswear? For your Style Guide author, I’m personally excited about a return to rugged layering in particular — including a refresher on how to wear a black denim jacket. Taking slightly unexpected, edgy pieces and mixing them together is one of the small joys of the season — take, for instance, the Roark Revival denim jacket we’re talking about in today’s #OOTD. It’s got just enough cool design touches to set it apart from your typical denim jacket, from the unique chest pocket detailing to the faded black color. And crucially, a jacket like the Roark Revival HWY 41 Jacket is going to be the perfect way to step into fall. It makes for a great layer on chilly weekend days and week nights alike, and that edgy style is going to help you go everywhere from a rock concert to a bar crawl to a weekend coffee run. When paired up with other fall style essentials — including classic suede chukka boots and a rugged striped henley — you’re going to be able to take on everything from a weekend getaway to a casual date night out seriously. So, are you ready to learn about your new favorite denim jacket? Good. Then let’s go! Follow me on Instagram for more insider style tips, plus a dose of craft beer and live music.

Rugged Fall Style

A mix of edgy pieces — like the Roark Revival denim jacket — and classic offerings, like a rugged henley.

The Jacket: Roark Revival HWY 41 Denim Jacket, $79.98 — As discussed above, the affordably priced, well-crafted and uniquely edgy Roark Revival HWY 41 Jacket is the unexpected fall layering piece you didn’t know you needed — until now.

The Henley: Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Henley, $98 (When Signing Up for Bespoke Post— When is it worth it to pay nearly $100 for a henley? When that rugged henley is made by Taylor Stitch.

The Pants: Original Penguin P55 Brushed Cotton 5-Pocket Pant, $89 — Want to shake things up from your typical rotation of slim blue denim  this fall? Reach for a pair of tailored cotton 5-pocket pants for a bit of high-low style.

The Boots: Hudson Shoes Corelli Suede Dip Dye Boots, $198 (When Signing Up for Bespoke Post)  — Want a pair of footwear that’s going to fit right in with the rock n’roll vibes of this ensemble? Suede chukka boots are going to be your best bet — Hudson Shoes knocked it out of the park with the Corelli Suede Dip Dye Boots.

The Socks: Arvin Goods Crew Socks (Three-pack), $30 — Sustainably made, understated socks are what Arvin Goods excels at making — these stylish crew socks fit the bill nicely.

The Belt: Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt in Natural, $80 — Don’t forget about the small style details. Particularly when your outfit is packed with rugged basics, your belt should fall in that same category aesthetically. Sturdy Brothers gets it right with the Everyday Belt.

The Watch: Szanto Aviator Automatic Watch — $289 — Rugged good looks, tough durability and a subtly stylish design make the Szanto Aviator Automatic Watch the right timepiece to offset this outfit.

The Grooming Essential: Blind Barber 60 Proof Hair Wax, $18 — What if I told you for under $20, you could get a true men’s grooming essential to help complement this sharp look? Easy choice, right?

When the foundation of your outfit is the rugged, edgy and unique Roark Revival HWY 41 Jacket, it makes filling in the pieces around it pretty easy. And when those pieces happen to include a mix of high-low style essentials like brushed cotton pants and a rugged striped henley? Well, the only question now is where that outfit can take you.   Stylish, sharp footwear like the  Corelli Suede Dip Dye Boots are a great way to step into early fall thanks to their unique texture and versatility, while a tough timepiece like the Szanto Aviator Automatic Watch  is going to complement plenty of seasonally ready outfits. Remember to turn to durable, dependable brands like Sturdy Brothers to upgrade your accessories, and know that the little touches in terms of grooming (like using Baxter of California hair wax) are going to take your ensemble to the next level. So, what do you think of this #OOTD? Where would you wear the Roark Revival HWY 41 Jacket this fall?

Thanks for reading, as always!

The List: Kick off Early Fall with the Best Men’s Gear

As we’ve been saying for a while now on The Style Guide, fall will be here before you know it. It’s the best time of the year for #menswear, what with a return to texture-heavy outfits, rugged layering and old style favorites — plus the chance to hit the road for crisp fall weekend adventures galore. And we’re getting into the swing of things a few weeks before the official start of fall with today’s edition of The List. Unlike our last edition of The List, which focused on the best gear to buy to close out summer, we’re looking toward menswear essentials with a bit more grit, a bit more rugged style and a bit more fall-ready wearability. Am I the only one excited for that first crisp fall day? Maybe? Well, let’s change that as quick as we can.  Follow me on Instagram to see how I’m getting ready for fall — and know that we’re officially going to debut our Fall Style Wish List later this week.

Original Penguin P55 Bedford Cord 5-Pocket Pant — $89

See Now, Buy Now: Throw On The Flint and Tinder Stretch Denim Trucker Jacket For Rugged Fall Style

The rugged good looks of a classic denim jacket, finished off with the stretch and comfort you need for all-day fall style.

There are certain items that instantly catch the eye of your Style Guide editor, writer and “creative director” — like the perfectly rugged Flint and Tinder Stretch Denim Trucker Jacket. Newly introduced by the folks at Huckberry, it’s yet another standout Flint and Tinder item you need to add to your fall wardrobe. Heck, that’s why we’re coming to you with a very rare Sunday See Now, Buy Now entry on the blog. Now, I know you’ve got other things on your Sunday to-do list, be it a stylish Sunday brunch, a day of yard work, a stroll through your favorite park or something in between. But simply put, the Flint and Tinder Stretch Denim Trucker Jacket delivers the goods. Without a doubt, this is a rugged denim jacket provides that elusive combination of comfort, versatility and style that’s so prized.

The Stretch Denim Trucker is made from mid-weight, inky blue cotton denim featuring two percent stretch for mobility. The jacket’s going to break in over time, making it a stylish complement to olive chinos and classic suede chukkas at this point in the season — and once you’ve worn the Stretch Denim Trucker throughout the fall, you can keep it handy to wear with burgundy corduroys and your favorite pair of leather boots in early winter (preferably layered under a classic field jacket or topcoat). In terms of hardware, the custom metal buttons feature an antique finish for classic style, while the Stretch Denim Trucker is also built with a longer, slimmer fit. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could even step out in a denim-on-denim look with Flint and Tinder’s All-American Washed Denim. Here’s the last word: The Flint and Tinder Stretch Denim Trucker Jacket is stylish and rugged enough to wear with a host of fall style essentials; heck, it’s even worth using a bit of your weekend downtime to pick this bad boy up right now.

Will you be adding the Flint and Tinder Stretch Denim Trucker Jacket to your fall wardrobe? How will you layer it?

Style Pick of the Week: Rancourt & Co. Carson Low Sneakers

A fall-ready sneaker that blends high-quality construction and striking looks.

If you’ve clicked through the pages of The Style Guide recently, then you surely recognize Rancourt & Co. — and particularly, perhaps you recognize the Rancourt & Co. Carson Low. It’s the perfect pair of sneakers to wear to transition into fall; I don’t know much, but I’d bet you’ll agree. First seen in our #OOTD post on how to wear an Oxford shirt this fall, these handsome, rugged sneakers nearly check all the boxes when it comes to classic fall footwear. That’s no joke. While it’s nice to step into tried-and-true staples like suede chukka boots or leather work boots when the weather gets chilly, durable leather sneakers can work just as well from early September to early November. It’s especially helpful that in the case of the Carson Low, the fine folks at Rancourt & Co. have applied the same approach that makes the brand’s other footwear so great (Exhibit A: The 4-Season Ranger Moc). The brand got into making USA-made sneakers back in 2015, and they’ve amped up their approach this time around.

That means the upper on the Rancourt & Co. Carson Low starts with exceptionally high-quality Horween leather, a claim not many pairs of sneakers can boast. The Vibram Strighton outsole is another point of durable differentiation (say that five times fast). That construction ensures grip, traction and a visually interesting contrast from the Horween leather upper on the Rancourt & Co. Carson Low. It’s that blend of quality and style that makes the Carson Low so appealing — and certainly, worthy of an investment this season.

Racnourt & Co.

Roll your jeans now with the Carson Low, and then keep these sneakers around once we get into fall.

So, with a pair of sneakers this well-made and stylish, it begs the question: How can’t the  Rancourt & Co. Carson Low work in a plethora of style situations? Classic dark denim and a slim grey crewneck sweater? Add these sneakers, plus a rugged leather watch. A slim herringbone blazer and grey corduroy trousers? The Rancourt & Co. Carson Low is a tremendous style move. A black denim jacket and grey jeans at a pub crawl? Sure thing, the Carson Low is up to the task. The rich brown leather, sturdy sole and handsome silhouette makes these sneakers timeless, versatile and durable. Finished off with leather laces, the Carson Low could just be your new favorite pair of sneakers this fall. Again, they’re an investment that’s worth it on the footwear front.

Will you be buying the Rancourt & Co. Carson Low  for the fall season? How would you style these stellar sneakers? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter

The Friday Read: Labor Day Weekend, MAHI Leather and Faherty Brand

A rugged, richly crafted leather tote that you can customize as you’d like — read more below.

In today’s Friday Read, we’ve got a lot of ground to cover before we head into Labor Day weekend. I hope your week has been an enjoyable one, packed with the best in #menswear.  It’s been busy around these parts. This blog in the past few weeks has covered what to wear for Labor Day weekend, the chukka boots to buy for fall and plenty more. Let’s pivot, for a second, to how you’re going to haul your everyday carry this weekend and beyond. I think I’ve got a solution to share if you’ve been looking for the answer. That solution, folks, is MAHI Leather and the company’s essential, handcrafted line of durable, functional and great-looking leather goods. In particular, I’ve been hauling around the brand’s Classic Leather Tote in a handsome shade of brown leather courtesy of MAHI– it’s served me so well, I took it to Lollapalooza 2017, as you can see above. And if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen that this bag is plenty versatile and durable.

For your next weekend adventure and well beyond, I’d say you should consider making the brand a part of your travel gear — the leather is soft and supple, the quality is on-point and the chance to customize the Classic Leather Tote was quite neat. With that being said, I’m going to use that tote to haul around some craft beer and a few other menswear essentials in the days ahead. Speaking of #menswear essentials — we’ve got a few choice reads for you, plus details on an excellent Labor Day weekend sale, detailed in the rest of this post below. Let me know on Twitter how you’re spending the weekend — and reader feedback is always welcome in the comments! Without further ado … let’s close out the summer in style and look toward a heck of a season ahead.

A handsome washed buttondown from Faherty Brand is but one of my picks from the brand’s Labor Day weekend sale.

  • Doing some shopping to close out summer? You might be in luck when it comes to stellar #menswear — Faherty Brand, purveyors of breezy, casual style — are offering an extra 25 percent off all sale items to celebrate the holiday! And there are some excellent picks in that list, from striped tees to indigo buttondowns, including my personal favorite pick as seen above. Get to shopping, yeah?

  • Elsewhere on the men’s style front, lovers of classic men’s sneakers should rejoice. GQ.com dives into the one sneaker that — unexpectedly — stokes the sneaker-loving fires of plenty of menswear fans: The J. Crew x Nike Killshot 2. If you’ve ever pined for these sneakers or tried (and failed) to get your hands on a pair, you’re not alone.
  • Let’s talk accessories really quickly — if you’re new to the blog, allow me to introduce you to our Saturday Style Pick of the Week series. This week’s stylish entry is coming tomorrow, but last week’s entry covers a rugged leather watch fit for all kinds of wear this upcoming fall. Certainly, you should add it to your everyday carry haul. The Halios Laguna Watch also comes with a stainless steel strap — two stylish men’s watches for the (investment-level) price of one. So, that’s just a taste of our weekly Style Pick series. Come through tomorrow for more!
  • And before we take off for the long weekend, let’s look again toward fall menswear essentials. As it were, my latest post for The Manual does just that — I take a dive into the brands making fall’s best leather jackets. Splurge or save, spend or wait it out a little bit; it’s a seasonal style staple that you surely need.

Ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much for reading — I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend! If you check back tomorrow, we’ll have a new Style Pick of the Week waiting. And if you check back on Sunday … we very well might just have a new See Now, Buy Now post for you. I can’t guarantee anything, but I know a guy  …

See you soon,

-Beau

See Now, Buy Now: Huckberry Is Now Stocking Your New Favorite Chukka Boots

A dependable pair of chukka boots, now available on an upgraded tread sole. Get ’em ASAP via Huckberry.

Some pairs of footwear just immediately call to mind the season ahead — right now, the new Astorflex Greenflex Rough Boots are that pair of footwear (at least, to yours truly at The Style Guide). And the great news? You can get your new favorite chukka boots right this very instant from our pals at Huckberry (Editor’s note: Huckberry is an advertising partner of this blog — but all opinions are my own!). What exactly is it that makes the Greenflex Rough an excellent addition to your fall footwear rotation? Take it from me — this new Astorflex style knocks it out of the park when it comes to a combination of classic looks and seasonal reliability. And if you haven’t started shopping for your fall style essentials yet, I’d urge you to start with the Greenflex Rough. I certainly love Astorflex for its mix of sustainability, style and versatility, as you might remember from our Style Guide Recommends series. The Astorflex Greenflex, absolutely a classic pair of chukka boots, is a particular favorite in that regard — and the Greenflex Rough amplifies those qualities even more. Crucially, Astorflex amps up this silhouette in casual, rugged fashion, starting with a treaded sole for added grip and traction on slippery surfaces this fall. Throw in metal eyelets for durability, and the Greenflex Rough is a winner. The good —  neigh, excellent — part about this approach is that the Greenflex Rough still retains all the style points you need this fall. So how should  you wear the Greenflex Rough? Bear with me.

Crucially, the Greenflex Rough comes in a rich Sand colorway, all the better for pairing with everything from slim black denim and a classic men’s T-shirt to slim olive chinos and a rugged henley. Don’t save them simply for rugged fall style situations, though. I’d break out the  Astorflex Greenflex Rough Boots with an unstructured navy blazer, a classic grey crewneck sweater and burgundy corduroys for a little late fall, business casual style when the time comes. Don’t worry if they can stand up to repeated wear, either — from the looks of it, the Astorflex Greenflex Rough Boots are built for the long haul this season.

How would you style the Astorflex Greenflex Rough Boots? Will you be picking up this new addition to the Astorflex line?

Online Shopping Picks: Grab This New Gear for Early Fall

What exactly do we mean at The Style Guide when we say early fall gear? That’s the question, right? Well, we’re on the verge of September and if you haven’t put together your fall style wish list, perhaps it’s time to start thinking. We’ll be focused on my fall style favorites next week, but for now, let’s get a jump on shopping — shall we?  We’re digging into those nice-to-have essentials for when that first crisp breeze hits and you head out to a football tailgate or a day hike or a bonfire … or any other like-minded fall pursuits. When the time comes, you’ll, be ready. A handsome leather flask? You got it.  A rugged leather dopp kit for all your long weekends away?  It’s on this list below.  There a few other picks that straddle the line between apparel and handy everyday carry gear, and that’s a good thing — fall is perhaps the best season for #menswear, right? With that spirit in mind, let’s get to work. After all, fall’s on the way. The Boots: Unmarked Roll-Top Desert Boots — $159.98

Classic, uniquely made and ready for fall adventures.

What would fall be without a unique, yet decidedly classic, pair of desert boots? Particularly early fall, ehh? Unmarked is making its Roll Top Desert Boots with both craftsmanship and flair — these feature a unique silhouette, handmade construction and a one-piece heel counter/ankle collar. Construction details aside, they’re the ideal pair of rugged (yet not over-the-top) classic desert boots to take you into early fall.

The Sweater: Flint and Tinder 10-Year Pullover in Navy — $89

Flint and Tinder

The type of hoodie you can wear over a classic Oxford — seriously.

Just as you need an easygoing pair of desert boots for all occasions — or nearly all occasions — so too do you need a stylish sweatshirt that’s truly a grab-and-go piece. The 10-Year Pocket Pullover from my pals at Flint and Tinder features better looks than your average hoodie, thanks to raglan stitching and no gaudy logo. Add in the soft fabric, the on-point fit and the array of color options, and the 10-Year Pocket Pullover is  a sweater that can go from the apple orchard to the bar, no sweat.

Gear Patrol American Craft Beer Field Guide — $9

Gear Patrol Field Guides

A trusty guide to take with you on a weekend trip.

While we’re out there talking rugged menswear like a classic hooded sweater and stylish desert boots, let’s talk about travel companions. Like, for instance, that trusty book you take with you wherever you go, and can pick up just about any time. The first of many Gear Patrol Field Guides fills that void if you happen to be a craft beer lover  (like me). And seeing as fall is a prime time for switching from light, crisp beers to richer brews, you best study up. Perfect for taking on a weekend away, preferably en route to a brewery.

The Flask: Slightly Alabama Hand-Stitched Leather Flask — $109.98

Ever seen a flask this cool? I certainly haven’t.

Ahh, here it is: The handcrafted, rugged leather flask we mentioned earlier. It’s the small pleasures in life that really count, and if ever you’ve wanted to take your favorite spirit to a tailgate or bonfire in style, this Slightly Alabama leather flask is the way to do it. With plenty of attention to detail and an aesthetic that doesn’t look half-bad resting on your mantle, Slightly Alabama has outdone themselves here — an expensive piece, but well worth it.

The Bonfire Essential: Sturdy Brothers Firewood Carry — $127

A heck of a way to haul your firewood — to say the least.

OK, maybe it’s not a full-on essential if you’re a city dweller like yours truly. And yet if you dwell outside the big city, why not grab something that’s rugged, durable and tough as nails to haul that firewood you’ll undoubtedly be chopping for bonfires aplenty? Again, do you need the Sturdy Brothers Firewood Carry? Ehh … perhaps  not. But will the Sturdy Brothers Firewood Carry work for seasons to come, through all types of weather? Absolutely.

The Travel Essential: Sturdy Brothers Horween Leather Dopp Kit — $138

Make this dopp kit the next addition to your weekender bag, yes?

OK, you’ve got your handy field guide, your rugged desert boots and your stylish weekender for an early fall getaway. What are you going to put your toiletries in for said getaway? Easy: The Sturdy Brothers Horween Leather Dopp Kit. Certainly, it’s a unique choice as far as dopp kits go, but the rugged leather and standout color of this stylish dopp kit will definitely help it fit in with the cooler climes of fall. It’s all about the details, yes?

We’re going to wrap this one up now — time to prep for fall, ehh? Transitioning from the heat of summer is all about reaching for pieces that are suited for all your fall adventures. Take rugged desert boots and a stylish casual sweater and wear ’em through plenty of weekends, for starts. And those everyday carry pieces that you can’t go on a trip without — like a uniquely stylish dopp kit — are going to serve you well, too. And then … because it’s fall … there are tough-as-nails pieces of gear that are just pleasing to have around. Take the Slightly Alabama leather flask as seen above, or the rough-and-ready Sturdy Brothers Firewood Carry.  After diving into this post, I’m certainly ready for a little early fall fun. #OOTD: An Updated Way to Wear Your New Oxford Shirt

If there’s one shirting style that tends to come up time after time here at The Style Guide, it might be the classic Oxford shirt. From a made-in-America Oxford shirt to the handsome Line of Trade navy Oxford shirt you’re going to read about today, there’s not a garment that more consistently works in so many style situations for today’s modern man (that’d be you!). Hopefully, you’ve already got one of the best Oxford shirts for men in your close. And although we talked about how to wear an Oxford shirt for summer, we’re shaking it up a little bit today. The below #OOTD is one that harnesses the best of end-of-summer style and yet uses rugged accessories like a heritage-quality leather belt and a tough stainless steel dive watch to nod toward the fact that fall is slowly but surely approaching.  Are you ready? I’m getting there.

Truly, I think you’ll find that the classic Oxford shirt seen below can work in all kinds of scenarios, from a casual weekend coffee run to a farmer’s market trip to a day at the office. That’s what we’re going for here, at least. And the great thing about your new favorite Oxford shirt is that it’ll work with plenty of pieces you’ve already got in your closet, from American-made denim to tailored sweatpants and crisp leather sneakers for a very laidback Sunday brunch. What do you say? Shall we get after it? Chime in on the below in the comments or on Twitter once you’ve checked out the #OOTD below. Shop on!

Line of Trade

Take that navy Oxford and pair it with slim chinos and classic kicks to step into September (and beyond).

The Oxford Shirt: Line of Trade Navy Oxford, $70 – Let’s kick it off with a modern-fitting, garment-washed Oxford shirt in a slightly different deep navy color. Ready to wear with anything — slim chinos included.

The Chinos: Banana Republic Aiden Slim Rapid Movement Chino, $98 — A recent addition to the BR line, these stretch chinos combine a tailored fit with a range of color options — although the shade seen here is perhaps most versatile.

The Sneakers:  Rancourt and Co. Carson Low in Natural Canvas, $175 — Made in America to exacting standards, these Rancourt and Co. sneakers are a more durable answer to classic white canvas sneakers — and all the better for it.

The Socks: Arvin Goods No-show Socks, $30 (Three-pack) — Because it’s not quite fall yet, we’re still rolling up our chinos to show off those USA-made sneakers — and Arvin Goods no-show socks are critical in that regard.

The Belt: Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt in Chestnut, $80 — Tired of buying cheap accessories? This handsome, extremely well-made Sturdy Brothers belt is the upgrade you need for fall.

The Watch:  Timex Stainless Steel Waterbury Watch, $119 — Told you we’d be breaking out durable everyday accessories, right? This rugged stainless steel dive watch from Timex is a steal in terms of price and looks.

The Sunglasses: Classic Specs Lowerree Aviators, $88 — Perhaps you’re not familiar with Classic Specs  — I know I wasn’t — but pieces like these stylish Aviator sunglasses should change that in a hurry.

The Everyday Carry: Nisolo Lori Leather Tote, $134.98 — Wary of carrying a rugged leather tote when you normally haul around a stylish messenger bag? This handsome leather tote bag  is a new way to switch up your everyday carry.

Alright, then. Have a better idea of how to wear your new favorite Oxford shirt? When you start with a piece as classic and simply constructed as the Line of Trade navy Oxford shirt shown above, the possibilities are nearly endless. However, your Style Guide author thinks that keeping things straightforward is the best way to go. That is to say, slim chinos and natural canvas sneakers from Rancourt and Co. are standout building blocks for any outfit.  Add in fall-ready accessories like a rugged stainless steel dive watch from Timex  and a durable leather belt from Sturdy Brothers, and you’re set for this #OOTD — and plenty more outfits in the season ahead.  No outfit — especially one featuring a classic navy Oxford shirt — is complete without finishing touches like stylish Aviator sunglasses and a handsome leather tote bag, though. So, just as with many of your other favorite #menswear pieces, the little details matter, and starting things off with easily wearable essentials is the best way to say goodbye to one season and look toward the next.

Hope you enjoyed today’s post — and thanks for reading!
