The List: Get Ready for Early Spring with My Favorite New Men’s Style Picks

Looking into spring with one of the most functional overshirts on the market.

If it doesn’t feel quite like early spring is in the air in your neck of the woods, that’s perfectly alright (NYC weather can be quite up-and-down, too). But that doesn’t mean it’s not prudent to think about the early spring style essentials you’ll be wearing when the weather takes a turn for the better (whether expected or sudden). The focus in today’s edition of The List is, as always, on the best men’s gear — the kind of gear that can go anywhere (I.E. The Flint and Tinder Chamois Overshirt as shown above) while providing hours of versatility, durability and style. With that being said, let’s dive right in.

Alright, so what are you looking forward to most about dressing for spring? Are you moreso focused on amping up your accessories with a rugged leather card case, or perhaps some of the best men’s grooming gear? Maybe you’re more focused on the bigger-ticket items, like the dependable Flint and Tinder Chamois Overshirt or one of the the best men’s jacket for spring? Let me know your thoughts on Twitter, and let’s get to work this spring.

Style Pick of the Week: Billy Reid Camelia Packable Shirt Jacket

A fashionable-yet-functional jacket from a designer who just gets it.

We’re turning our attention today in our Style Pick of the Week series toward one of America’s best menswear designers, Mr. Billy Reid. More specifically, we’re diving into why you need one of the best men’s shirts jackets from this handsome brand — the Billy Reid Camelia Packable Shirt Jacket checks all the right boxes when it comes to an unbeatable early spring layer, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Lest Billy Reid‘s association with the fashion world scare you away (he holds an annual Shindig to celebrate music, fashion & art), know that Reid is a master at making the sort of functional-yet-fashionable gear every guy needs — in fact, you might know him from the standout Billy Reid Bond Peacoat, a true must-buy when it comes to a stylish men’s jacket. But back to the matter at hand, because the Billy Reid Camelia Packable Shirt Jacket is the perfect shirt jacket for the moment.

Shop Mott & Bow Today!

It’s the kind of multi-faceted piece that Reid does so well, featuring a water-resistant exterior nylon shell that just so happens to be crafted from Reid’s custom Camelia fabric — you might not find a more durable shirt jacket (in camo, no less!) than this one.

SHOP: The Billy Reid Camelia Packable Shirt Jacket

Reid takes great care when it comes to the details, too.

The camo print on this surprisingly rugged shirt jacket might seem to be a bit too much at first, but rest assured: When styled the right way, this piece can be minimal-yet-attention-grabbing (in a good way). The best men’s shirt jackets work well with other menswear classics, especially those more geared toward spring style, like a slim pair of light wash denim and a crisp white T-shirt — in this case, your new favorite shirt jacket does all the talking. You can also wear the Billy Reid Camelia Packable Shirt Jacket on the road (when it’s not packed in your bag, of course) — simply pair it up with tan chinos and a slim chambray shirt, then add rugged leather chukka boots for the ultimate in all-day travel style. To head to the office — yes, the office, swap in this stylish shirt jacket in place of a blazer atop your favorite Oxford shirt, then keep those same chinos and chukka boots handy. It’s a versatile, unique combo that’s just different enough to add a shot in the arm to your wardrobe, and that’s what it should be about as we start spring. No doubt about it, this shirt jacket could become your new go-to layering move.

The Friday Read: A Seattle Road Trip, The Best Face Washes for Men & A New Henley

The timeless, seriously cool spring jacket to start wearing right now.

There it is in all its glory — the new spring jacket you’re going to be wearing all season, starting with this weekend. To me, a versatile spring jacket like the Grayers Boone Utility Jacket is exactly the right layer you need to welcome the up-and-down weather of early March. And again, it’s the best spring jacket to wear as we kick off the weekend with today’s Friday Read. As for my weekend plans, I know a jacket like the Grayers Boone Utility Jacket could come in very handy for me — I’m trekking to a place known for some rain and breezy weather, Seattle! I’m heading out to this great Pacific Northwest city for the first time for a very exciting (and fitting) reason. I’ll be heading West to see what should be a terrific rock show by legendary NYC rockers The Strokes, who recently announced their first album in seven (!) years, titled “The New Abnormal.” Contemplative, synth-driven crooner “At The Door” is an innovative release, while “Bad Decisions” is a proper throwback Strokes track that pays homage to Billy Idol (seriously, listen to it!), and I truly can’t wait to see both tracks played live at the WaMu Theater. In the meantime, I’ll be busy exploring with my favorite spring style essentials in tow, naturally, and I’ll be taking in the cool environs and atmosphere of the Ace Hotel Seattle — another first for me! On the menswear front, I plan on checking out the latest and greatest at Filson, in addition to a stop through a longtime favorite retailer, Hammer and Awl.

In addition to rocking out to new and old favorites from a legendary band, I plan to get out and about in Seattle as much as possible (wearing the the best spring jacket I can find, of course). That’ll include stops at Georgetown Brewing, Pike Brewing and some small bites at the lauded PINTXO Seattle and Teku Tavern, along with a much-needed stop for record shopping at Holy Cow Records. Along the way, I plan to fuel up accordingly at spots like Analog Coffee —  can it get much better? Not quite! So, have you been to Seattle? Where would you recommend I visit? Be sure to let me know on Twitter, and be sure to check out tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week in the meantime.

  • Don’t let your grooming routine slip on the weekend — in fact, using a refreshing face wash can be a great way to kickstart your day. In the spirit of improving your men’s grooming essentials across the board, I wrote about the best face washes for men over at GearMoose. Whatever your skin type or routine, there’s something on this list for everyone.
  • Keeping things slim and stylish is a must when it comes to your everyday carry essentials, especially when you’re talking slim denim or your favorite chinos. With that approach in mind, I wrote about the best slim wallets, featuring sleek and functional selections aplenty. Head to The Manual for my latest.
  • If you read the blog on the regular (and how could you not??), then you know that I’m all on board when it comes to the versatility and appeal of a rugged henley — this sportswear classic is now a daily style staple for guys everywhere, myself included. In the spirit of the best rugged gear for men, I rounded up my favorite henley shirts once again for The Manual. Once you’ve checked out that post, read this other post about how to wear a henley on the daily.

OLIVERS

Alright, so we’ve covered off on new henleys, a new face wash for your grooming routine & of course, everyday carry essentials. What’s one final essential you can’t live without? It might just be a classic Oxford shirt, a fitting piece every week of the year — including blustery March days. With all that in mind, I’m going to point you toward my guide on how to wear an Oxford shirt. It’ll work on the weekend or at the office with ease — I should know, I’ve tried! OK, that’s all for now. See Now, Buy Now: These New Chelsea Boots From HELM Boots Belong On Your Feet

A new take on the Chelsea boot from one of the best men’s bootmakers out there.

Just when you thought it might be time to start putting your leather boots away in favor of more spring-like style essentials, HELM Boots goes and releases some of the best leather Chelsea boots on the market. Surely, you know HELM Boots from the blog, and from my musings on the best boots to buy now. But if not? Let’s dive in. The boots in question in today’s See Now, Buy Now entry would just so happen to be the HELM Boots Holt Boots, a new take on classic Chelsea boots that’ll have you making plenty of excuses to wear them — yes, from the early spring and into (gasp) … the summer. After all, when you find a pair of the best Chelsea boots at an agreeable price for their construction and quality, you make an effort to get as much use out of them as possible — that’s my stance, at least.

Logo 234x60

So, to business. The HELM Boots Holt Boots come in two highly versatile, rich leathers: Dark Grey (wear them with stonewashed light grey jeans and a classic white T-shirt) or Dark Natural (ready to be paired with your favorite denim and a waxed trucker jacket). As it goes with HELM Boots, the difference really is in the details, starting with the fact that these stylish Chelsea boots are made with unique, full-grain Balthazar leather using time-tested methods (HELM Boots has been crafting stylish boots in Austin for more than a decade now, so rest assured, they hold up).

SHOP: The HELM Boots Holt Boots

Sleek, yet rugged and dependable all the same — a very solid effort from HELM Boots.

Shop Mott & Bow Today!

Most importantly, the HELM Boots Holt Boots really drive home the notion that every guy needs a great pair of Chelsea boots in his wardrobe. They’re more visually interesting than classic chukka boots (although you need a pair of those, too!), they offer tougher style and functionality than high-top sneakers (again, also a necessity!), and in the case of the HELM Boots Holt Boots, they can be worn to the office as readily as they can be worn to, say, the Austin City Limits music festival. How’s that for a classic pair of Chelsea boots? Not bad, I’d say. Experience the HELM Boots Holt Boots for yourself, then let me know what you think of them on Twitter.

#OOTD: Wear This Gear To Your Weekend Coffee Date

Navigating the 21st-century dating world — especially in 2020 — can be a taxing and tricky prospect, and that goes for established relationships, budding relationships and heck, marriage in equal measure. Are coffee dates still the norm in all three of these situations? In my estimation, yes — we’ll leave the rest of the questions to smarter folks, but today, we’re going to talk about what to wear on a weekend coffee date. A standby of enjoyable, relaxing time together, often pairing great coffee with (hopefully) great conversation — pick the right coffee shop, plan activities before and after … and yes, figure out what to wear on a weekend coffee date in the meantime. No matter how long (or short!) you’ve been with your partner, dressing for the occasion with your favorite men’s style essentials — much less style essentials for early spring — is always the right way to approach the situation (even if you’ve previously viewed your weekend coffee run as a necessity rather than event). So, from a new Faherty Brand Chore Coat to a classic crewneck sweatshirt  and of course, a garment-dyed Oxford shirt for classic, laidback style, I think you’ll like what we’re brewing up today. The goal is to approach the situation (in matters of dress as well as mentally) with an air of casual cool — so, be yourself, dress the part, then enjoy the day. If you’ve got questions on what to wear for a weekend, let me know on Twitter. OK, order up!

Keeping things casual and cool for a weekend coffee date.

  • The Jacket: Faherty Brand Chore Coat, $328 Statement-making outerwear, the kind that’s eye-catching without going crazy, is tough to find these days — except the Faherty Brand Chore Coat, the ideal way to make a first (or second, or third) impression.
  • The Sweatshirt: Taylor Stitch Crewneck in Natural Donegal Terry, $128 — Depending on the weather, maybe you won’t need this classic crewneck sweatshirt from Taylor Stitch. But if you do, it’s a classic layer that quietly nods toward timeless cool.
  • The Oxford Shirt: Flint and Tinder Garment-Dyed Oxford Shirt, $118 — In keeping with the vibe we’re going for (calm, cool and collected), a garment-dyed Oxford shirt in a flattering color and soft fabric is your best friend (and possibly … your new favorite shirt?).
  • The Denim: Flint and Tinder 1-Year Wash Jeans, $128 — Again, since it’s the weekend, we’re keeping things casual but not over-the-top — perfectly faded denim, especially from Flint and Tinder, is your go-to move.
  • The Classic Boots: Astorflex Dukeflex Boots, $155 — When you want to look put-together without overdoing it, reach for classic chukka boots that are visually interesting and easy to wear with your favorite jeans.
  • The Watch: Form-Function-Form Horween Leather Chronograph, $128 — Leave the heirloom-worthy watch or that rugged dive watch at home — a classic casual watch, particularly a Horween leather strap watch, is your move here.
  • The Grooming Essential: Duke Cannon Solid Cologne, $25 — Again, making a great impression (regardless of how long you’ve been dating!) is a solid move any day of the week, and Duke Cannon Solid Cologne is subtle & high-quality — certainly, some of the best men’s solid cologne on the market.
  • The Wallet: Red Wing Heritage Classic Bifold, $129.99 — Picking up coffee on this date is the right thing to do (in my book), and Red Wing Heritage is helping you meet that aim with one of the best men’s leather wallets — a classic wallet you’ll have for many dates to come, no doubt.

The key here, as with so many entries in our #OOTD series, comes with making the pieces you know and love — for instance, a garment-dyed Oxford shirt — work in harmony together in a way that’s polished and cool, yet memorable. That’s why we’re pairing your new favorite shirt with the right complementary pieces, including a classic crewneck sweatshirt and the Faherty Brand Chore Coat as shown above. This outfit has the makings of care and personal style without being too wild — sounds pretty great, right? In keeping with the laidback nature of a weekend outing, perfectly faded denim is a natural move (although rugged camp pants could also work if you wanted to go a bit more, well, rugged). Rather than wear a pair of lovingly worn-in sneakers — save those for the summer — go with classic chukka boots to add some polish to this look (keep those same boots handy to wear to the office on Monday, too). You’re going to be tying it all together with essential accessories, including a classic casual watch for noteworthy style (everyone loves a cool watch, no?). Haul your cash and cards with one of the best men’s leather wallets, and be sure to freshen up with one of the best men’s solid cologne for that extra finishing touch. Are you feeling ready for your coffee date? I hope so — to get more daily style inspiration, head to my Instagram.

The List: Get Ready for a New Week with the Best New Menswear

The perfect sweatshirt to step into early (early) spring? Quite nearly.

Today’s edition of The List is going to get right to the point — nothing but the classics, the greatest hits, the best takes on the best new menswear to be found on the Internet (OK, that’s a stretch … but still). Early March is an interesting time, especially in Brooklyn — any day could bring everything from rain to warm breezes to (gulp) snow … so you’ll find one of the best crewneck sweatshirts in the mix as seen above, along with plenty of your new favorite menswear picks (again, all classics). OK, let’s go to work.

Flint and Tinder 10-Year French Terry Crewneck — $88

A classic crewneck that’s as versatile as it gets.

When the folks at Huckberry and Flint and Tinder put their minds to releasing one of the best men’s crewneck sweatshirts, you can be sure they’re going to, well, succeed. The 10-Year French Terry Crewneck will last at least that long, so be prepared to get plenty of wear out of it.

HELM Boots Railroad Boots — $395

Durable, rugged boots that’ll only get better (and better) with age.

OK, so you know what goes exceptionally well with one of the best men’s crewneck sweatshirts? A great pair of rugged leather boots, particularly from HELM Boots. These are built for early spring and beyond, and there’s no doubt that the HELM Boots Railroad Boots will only get better with age. Better still? If you’ve never bought from the brand, you can get $50 off your first purchase with HELM Boots, plus free shipping, right now.

Faherty Brand Movement Shirt — $148

A tailored, versatile everyday dress shirt from Faherty Brand.

Every guy needs a versatile everyday shirt — the kind you can wear with, say, a stylish crewneck and leather boots as well as with a slim spring blazer and chinos (more on your blazer in a second). The Faherty Brand Movement Shirt is, in that regard, the perfect everyday shirt.

Vetra Broken Twill Blazer — $135.98

A classic, casual-yet-versatile men’s blazer for spring.

In the way of men’s style essentials, it’s tough to top a lightweight blazer for spring. Apt for wearing with your favorite Oxford shirt or else layered up with a classic crewneck sweatshirt for casual style, the Vetra Broken Twill Blazer just gets the job done.

Mott and Bow Laight Slim Jeans — $118

The slim light wash jeans you’ll want to wear all spring.

As we move into spring, there’s one style of essential men’s jeans that begins to separate itself from the pack — a pair of stylish light wash jeans, especially a well-made and reasonably priced pair from Mott and Bow.

Taylor Stitch Piston Jacket in Indigo Corduroy — $188

A classic and seriously cool jacket from Taylor Stitch.

Can the team at Taylor Stitch ever stop churning out some of the best new menswear on the planet? Apparently not, because the Taylor Stitch Piston Jacket, featuring a classic bomber construction and rich indigo-dyed corduroy for spring layering … is simply one of the coolest men’s jackets your author has seen in some time.

Jack Mason Aviator Watch — $195

The tough construction and easily wearable watch to buy now.

With a rather unique design — white dial, black leather strap, eye-catching orange dial markings — the Jack Mason Aviator Watch is just different enough. Consider adding this versatile, tough timepiece to your collection for a new season.

Western Rise X Cotton Everyday Tee — $48

A classic cotton tee made with innovative fabric.

Is it T-shirt weather yet? Maybe so — and that’s why you need one of the best men’s T-shirts, particularly this versatile piece from Western Rise. It’s made from cotton, polyester and spandex, making it perhaps the perfect T-shirt for travel (and of course, the everyday).

Duke Cannon Great American Beard Oil – Made with Budweiser — $30

Beard oil made with Budweiser? You better believe it.

You can’t end an edition of The List without talking about the best men’s grooming essentials — namely, the Great American Beard Oil from Duke Cannon, made with Budweiser (yes, Budweiser). The cedarwood scent is excellent, and that’s only part of what makes it the best men’s beard oil out there.

Hawthorne Face Lotion — Price Varies

Some of the best face lotion to buy right now.

The folks at Hawthorne — who I’ve previously covered at The Manual — continue to expand their line of men’s grooming essentials with a seriously effective moisturizer, made in part with shea butter. It’s some of the best moisturizer I’ve used in some time, so I’d say you should take the brand’s quiz to tailor your skincare routine expertly.

Billy Reid Louis Henley — $150

Your new favorite henley? Quite possibly.

When you want premium menswear that’s rugged and classic at the same time, you want Billy Reid. Specifically, you want one of the best men’s henleys from the brand, the kind you can wear with nearly anything else on this list (stylish light wash jeans included).

LSTN Sound Marquee Wireless Speaker — $89

The stylish, effective speaker you need for your home now.

Let’s pivot to the best wireless speaker for your home, office, den or … next road trip. That’s the LSTN Sound Marquee Wireless Speaker, made with sleek design and stylish looks in mind. Available now from Bespoke Post for a downright steal.

Danner Ridge Boots — $380

Tough leather hiking boots from Danner? Sign me up.

For all those times you want to get out of the house and out on the trail, you need rugged leather boots. More to the point, you need the ridiculously tough Danner Ridge Boots.

Pacific Shaving 3-in-1 Everyday Beard Care — $21 (Two-Pack)

Upgrade the way you groom your beard right now.

Keeping your beard groomed is an ongoing task — be it winter or spring. Do it right with this effective 3-in-1 beard care, made in the U.S.A. and made to moisturize your beard.
Raen Optics Dodson Polarized Sunglasses — $175

Durable sunglasses that add a dash of effective style to your spring ensembles.

You’re going to be needing a pair of the best men’s sunglasses before you know it — might as well pick up the Raen Optics Dodson Polarized Sunglasses, ehh? They’re the ideal way to top off a spring-centric outfit (think stylish light wash jeans and one of the best men’s T-shirts).
Banana Republic Slim Dry Indigo Traveler Jeans — $128

Classic denim in an expert wash — made with less water, too.

We talked previously about stylish light wash jeans, so let’s go with a darker shade for the rest of you out there — a pair of slim denim that’s sustainable and well-made, no less. BR’s new line of Dry Indigo denim is made using 99 percent less water and 65 percent less energy, so they’re more than worth your time and energy.
OK, folks — I think we covered a ton of ground today, did we not? From the best men’s crewneck sweatshirts to a great pair of rugged leather boots, I hope these essentials give you something to think about (and shop, and wear). The impending spring weather also gives you the chance to break out classics like stylish light wash jeans or one of the best men’s henleys — we’d also be remiss to leave picks like the best men’s beard oil. So, what say you? Let me know your take on Twitter.

Style Pick of the Week: Sanders Hi-Top Dress Chukka Boots

Stepping out with sleek, effective high-top chukka boots.

There’s never a bad time to step out wearing a pair of the best men’s chukka boots — especially on a late winter weekend, and especially when the stylish chukka boots in question are the Sanders Hi-Top Chukka Boots. They channel the perfect kind of dressy-yet-versatile style that only the best men’s chukka boots can provide, what with the kind of elegance required to be worn with a navy herringbone suit or your favorite pair of dark denim in equal measure.

Tell me: Do you have any chukka boots in your arsenal currently that can do that? Not quite? That’s why you need these Sanders chukka boots. Mark my words, though: The list of positives goes on (and on, and on). They check all the proper boxes as you search for your new favorite pair of chukka boots, including a sleek profile and a rich suede leather upper (ideal to start wearing now, then keep around come spring and summer). And what’s more, the lineage of Sanders should be enough to buy these dress chukka boots on merit alone. After all, Sanders has been making some of the best men’s footwear (period) since the 1870s — based in England, they’re a sleeper brand that deserves your attention and hard-earned cash, too.

SHOP: The Sanders Hi-Top Chukka Boots

Unbeatable quality, the best materials and top-notch construction set these apart.

The crepe sole, with a thicker cut than, say Clarks desert boots, provides even more comfort and a smooth ride than you might expect — that’s what makes these boots perfect for pairing with everything from slim olive chinos (in the approaching spring) or the best corduroy pants (right now). The versatility of this seemingly simple style shines through in the color selection of these hi-top chukka boots, too — choose from rich Polo Snuff Suede or Moss Green Suede, then pair either with everything from light wash jeans or navy chinos to faded dark denim. As to where exactly you can take the Sanders Hi-Top Chukka Boots, well, that’s really up to you. The comfortable crepe sole and refined, yet not-too-dressy design mean these would be apt for overseas travel or a day at the office in equal measure. Especially when worn with slim tan chinos and a navy polo in the spring, you’re channeling some 007 style in Casino Royale.  Seriously, how cool is that?? Not bad at all — I think James Bond himself might even approve of the Sanders Hi-Top Chukka Boots, so you might as well see for yourself.

The Friday Read: Bonobos Travel Jeans, Your New Chinos & A New Pilsner

A rugged, classic chore coat guaranteed to deliver weekend fun.

Welcome once more to another edition of The Friday Read, my friends. Today’s take on the best men’s style news of the week is particularly momentous — tomorrow is Leap Day, a rarity on the calendar, so let’s have a little fun with it! And one way to have some fun? By picking up more winter style essentials, including the rugged and essential Wellen Stretch Chore Coat as seen above. It’s simply one of the best chore coats you can buy at the moment. I’ll be going a bit more formal with my look this weekend, though. Why’s that? Well, my great college friend — none other than Mr. Kyle Campbell — happens to be tying the knot in Brooklyn! A Brooklyn wedding is a rarity for me (I’ve traveled back to Michigan for past weddings), so it’s definitely momentous to be able to head to The Palm House at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, followed by post-wedding festivities at excellent beer hall Berg’n.

Speaking of craft beer, the festivities have continued to roll along through NYC Beer Week these past few days — it’s one of my favorite weeks of the year here across the city. I had the chance to try delicious beers from the likes of Finback Brewery (the Breach The Surface IPA is a juicebomb of a  brew), Suarez Family Brewing (had to get the flavorful Qualify Pils from this upstate gem!) and more at spots like Covenhoven. I also stopped by lauded Brooklyn bar The Well, packed with 60 (yes, 60!) taps. The occasion? A live panel with renowned beer writer Josh Bernstein! Talk about a great day of great beer — drafts from NYC’s Interboro and Florida’s Civil Society Brewing were particularly prime choices. Looking back on the week, I’m grateful I get to live my passions in NYC — from craft beer to yes, menswear. Hey, speaking of menswear: Let’s get going with the good stuff, shall we? Enjoy the rest of today’s Friday Read.

  • Can you ever have enough of the best men’s chinos? Well, perhaps — but that’s not why we’re here. No sir, I had the chance to write about my favorite men’s chinos for each and every season for The Manual — on the docket, you’ll find picks from both Taylor Stitch and Faherty Brand, for starters. Happy shopping!
  • So you’ve got your new favorite chinos and you’re ready to hit the road — or are you? Not without one of the best passport wallets. I wrote about 20 (yes, 20!) of them for GearMoose, per tradition. Gear up, add to your everyday carry, and then (and only then!), you’re ready to hit the road.
  • All of that earlier talk of craft beer is making me thirsty … if you feel the same way, check out a crisp, refreshing and new pilsner over at GearMoose, as covered by yours truly. In my last trip to Utah, I enjoyed quite a few brews from Uinta, so I’m certain you’ll be mighty pleased with the Uinta 801 Small Batch Pilsner. Bottoms up!

OLIVERS

The best Oxford shirt? I’ll let you decide, but in short … yes.

Let’s be real here: When we (and by we, I mean me) step out and call a shirt the best Oxford shirt, you can rest assured there’s some serious thinking (and research, and testing!) that goes into it. And with that being said, the Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt (specifically, the Jack Shirt in Maroon Brushed Oxford) is the best Oxford shirt to buy right now. It’s certainly been a hot seller on the Taylor Stitch site, so if your size is sold out, rest assured, the entire run of Taylor Stitch shirting in alternate fabrics and fits offers up that same blend of quality & durability. The right Oxford shirt for winter weather should fit slim, but not too slim (check), it should be able to pull double-duty with your favorite winter blazer as easily as on its own with slim faded jeans (check), and it should be ready for season after season of wear (again, check!).

A dependable, classic Oxford shirt — one of several options available from Taylor Stitch.

But let’s get back to why it pays off to have a closet stocked with at least one of the best Oxford shirts for men, shall we? Think of an Oxford shirt as a sort of nice go-between when you want to upgrade your style from your favorite henley to something with a bit more polish — yet you don’t want to feel stuffy or constricted (the way a standard dress shirt might leave you feeling). That’s where your new favorite Oxford shirt comes in — throw it on with slim tan chinos and classic leather chukka boots to hit up your favorite brewery, or else pair it with your favorite winter blazer and slim blue denim to head to the office. The great news is, the Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt can do all of that and more — without missing a beat. Doesn’t that sound like the kind of shirt you need in your life ASAP? I thought so. Happy shopping!

#OOTD: Here’s How to Wear Your Oxford Shirt Right Now

The best winter style ensembles are filled with versatility and dependability (at least, in my humble opinion). So, whether you want to know how to dress for a winter weekend or how to dress for the office right now, there’s a good chance you’ll actually find some overlap between each of those looks — that’s where pieces like the classic Oxford shirt (the subject of today’s #OOTD) come into play. We aren’t just talking about any bargain-bin shirt, however — we’re talking about one of the best Oxford shirts, featuring stretch and a subtle pattern from Faherty Brand (more on that shortly, though). The humble Oxford shirt, with its sporting roots across the pond, is now a menswear staple that  you can dress up or down, at the office or at home … and yes, out on the town, too. It’s fitting that the rest of today’s gear picks act in a similarly versatile manner, from the rugged field jacket as an outer layer, right through to one of the best men’s wool blazers. As it were, this is the ideal kind of look to take you through the rest of winter, seeing as it’s unique and fresh, but not too wild (we’re leaving the printed outerwear and bold shirting at home this time, folks). You can also, of course, mix-and-match this outfit as you please, seeing as your Faherty Brand Oxford shirt can reliably be worn on its own or underneath your favorite shawl cardigan. Before you go anywhere though, you need the right gear — here’s the look to shop now.

The best Oxford shirt + a winter blazer and chinos? That’s a huge winner in my book.

  • The Oxford Shirt: Faherty Brand Stretch Oxford Shirt, $128 Invest in one of the best Oxford shirts with this fine number from Faherty Brand, featuring a tailored fit and welcome stretch fabric. It’s polished enough for the office or off-duty pursuits.
  • The Blazer: Flint and Tinder Wayfarer Wool Blazer, $298 — Often, wearing your Oxford shirt the right way comes down to what you pair it with — and be it date night or a day on the grind at the office, one of the best men’s wool blazers (featuring a tailored cut from Flint and Tinder) is the perfect move.
  • The Jacket: Billy Reid Quilted Field Jacket, $495 — Think we’ve made it through the worst of winter? Think again. You need a rugged field jacket ASAP, and you need the Billy Reid Quilted Field Jacket, more importantly.
  • The Chinos: Mott and Bow Charles Slim Twill Chinos, $125 — As we so often say, it shouldn’t surprise you now that the makers of your favorite denim are now branching out into categories like your new favorite chinos — these slim twill chinos are business casual-approved and off-duty ready.
  • The Boots: Rhodes Footwear Dean Boots, $228 — Yes, you can wear rugged leather boots to the office or  out on a date — especially when they’re the sleek, Huckberry-approved Rhodes Dean Boots (available for an agreeabl price and offering plenty of functionality).
  • The Watch: Carpenter Watches G-4 Brooklyn Gent Watch, $795.98 — Whether heading to a big meeting or heading out with your significant other, I’d say one of the best leather watches is a must-have. In terms of style, confidence and “cool” factor, Carpenter Watches hits the nail on the head.
  • The Grooming Essentials: Duke Cannon Cold-Weather Defense Kit, $30 — Dry skin and dry hands are the scourge of many a winter outing — not so with these winter grooming essentials from Duke Cannon, guaranteed to hydrate your face and hands in no time.
  • The Everyday Carry: Bellroy Tokyo Tote Bag, $179 — The Bellroy Tokyo Tote Bag isn’t so much a tote bag or a backpack as it is one of the best everyday carry essentials for all that gear you need to have on hand. It’s also unassuming and subtly stylish — perfect for getting around efficiently.

If it wasn’t abundantly clear already, Faherty Brand sure can deliver when it comes to crafting a standout Oxford shirt — again, one that you can wear to the office or out for a refined, polished evening on the town. The key here comes from your supporting cast, including one of the best men’s wool blazers to really drive home that sharp, tailored finish. Naturally, for exploring a new city in blustery weather, the Billy Reid Quilted Field Jacket is going to do some serious damage in terms of durability and style, and it’s all going to come together even more nicely with your new favorite chinos — delivered by Mott and Bow, they’ll provide a reliable fit, quality fabric and standout style. It surely wouldn’t be an #OOTD without rugged leather boots that actually offer some crisp, dressy appeal, and such is the case with the Rhodes Dean Boots. Accessorizing the right way is also something you shouldn’t overlook, and for a watch that’s going to stand out at the office and on a date night, invest in a timepiece from Carpenter Watches for maximum style points. Your skin stays fresh and hyrdated with winter grooming essentials from Duke Cannon  as we get to the end of this ensemble, and you’re carrying around your EDC with the Bellroy Tokyo Tote Bag to top it all off.
