See Now, Buy Now: The Taylor Stitch Point Shirt Is the Versatile Layer You Need Now

A versatile shirt and overshirt from Taylor Stitch — all you need for multiple seasons of layering.

As we always talk about here on the blog when it comes to men’s style essentials, it can often feel counterintuitive to talk about gear that’s slightly out of season — yet, that’s perhaps the best time to consider stocking up. That’s what I mean when it comes to the rugged Taylor Stitch Point Shirt,  a tough organic cotton shirt that doubles as a lightweight jacket and will come in handy now … and later on come fall. It’s yet another essential that bears considering for your closet from Taylor Stitch, a brand that’s nearly at the top of your author’s personal rankings.  So, why the Point Shirt from Taylor Stitch, and why now? Is it the blend of organic cotton and hemp, made for durability and sustainability? Is it the cool Olive Drab color of the Point Shirt, wearable with everything from summer-friendly light wash denim to fall-ready black denim? Is it the patch front pockets and matching cats eye buttons on the Taylor Stitch Point Shirt that give it the feel of a classic overshirt? It’s all of the above, my friends.

The design expertise of Taylor Stitch means that you’re getting all of the great quality and durability, plus the stylish fit you expect from this lauded menswear brand. In short, that means you can layer the Taylor Stitch Point Shirt over everything from a white slub tee now to a long-sleeve grey henley when temperatures start to get chilly at a fall football tailgate. Yes sir, multi-season versatility is the name of the game when you’re looking at the Point Shirt from Taylor Stitch — the Olive Drab color is the perfect foil to either tailored navy shorts and white canvas sneakers now, or dark blue denim and classic suede chukka boots in a few months. And with that on-point fit and durable construction, the Point Shirt from Taylor Stitch is about as good as it gets, season after season. Invest now, wear now, and continue reaping the rewards later on. That’s what you get with Taylor Stitch.

Are you picking up the Point Shirt from Taylor Stitch soon?

Style Pick of the Week: Huckberry Artist Series Heavyweight Tee

More than just your average T-shirt, this Huckberry number features custom artwork.

I’ve shopped for my fair share of T-shirts over the years, and I’ve got to say: The search for the perfect T-shirt can be a tricky one (to say the least). There might be a solution if you’re looking for an upgraded, visually interesting and easy-to-layer T-shirt, though: That’d be today’s Style Pick of the Week, the Huckberry Artist Series Heavyweight Tee. It’s an upgraded T-shirt in each and every way, and that’s why it’s nearly essential that you pick up an Artist Series Heavyweight Tee now, featuring engaging artwork and a summer-ready fit.. We’re all about style moves that take the average or the everyday and amp it up a  little bit, from the classic white T-shirt to an expertly faded pair of light wash denim, and the  Huckberry Artist Series Heavyweight Tee is the perfect addition to your (hopefully growing) list of summer style essentials. And if you’re not normally a T-shirt guy — or conversely, if you feel like you’ve got too many tees in your wardrobe — why should you consider picking up the Huckberry Artist Series Heavyweight Tee? It’s quite simple, my friends. Like all Huckberry essentials, with the Heavyweight Tee you’re getting durability, quality & great design — all in a tee that you can wear on its own or layer up under a classic chambray or Oxford shirt.

Another option from the Huckberry Artist Series — and a pretty darn cool one, to boot.

Helpfully, the Artist Series line features something for everyone in terms of colors and custom prints, from the retro-minded Wolf Print Tee shown at the top of the page to the Huckberry Van Tee seen here. Each tee is made in the States using 100 percent carded cotton (that’s the good stuff) and dialed in with the exacting fit you’d expect from the fine folks at Huckberry. The positives keep on rolling, too — each Huckberry Artist Series Heavyweight Tee is enzyme-washed for softness, meaning that each Heavyweight Tee feels like you’ve owned it for years right from the first wear. That quality could just make the Heavyweight Tee your new favorite T-shirt, especially when it comes to wearing it with a rugged denim jacket or beneath an easygoing cotton shirt on cool summer nights. Add slim khaki chinos (like these Abercrombie & Fitch chinos) plus some white canvas sneakers (like these TOMS sneakers) and you’re all set for your next outdoor concert. Those are the kind of style moves you should be searching for across these next few weeks — pieces that elevate your look from “just a T-shirt and jeans” to something more: A unique tee worn well (and available at an agreeable price!). That’s what the Huckberry Artist Series Heavyweight Tee brings to the table — unique design, cool looks and standout wearability. The Wolf Print Tee is my personal favorite, ideal to wear with your favorite pair of broken-in denim and some suede chukka boots to grab a beer at your local brewpub.

Do you dig the vibes of the Huckberry Artist Series Heavyweight Tee? Which one would you pick, and how would you style it? Get at me on Twitter.

Style Pick of the Week: Billy Reid Ombre Stripe Polo

A premium polo for premium wearing occasions.

One step outside is all it takes to remind you that we’re still slogging through summer — but as we always say here on the ole blog, that’s no excuse to not dress in style. And so it goes with today’s Style Pick of the Week, one that you should certainly add to your list of summer style essentials: The Billy Reid Ombre Stripe Polo. You very well might recognize it from a recent edition of The List, and it’s back today with good reason. For one, it’s a warm weather style upgrade that looks more polished than average — the Billy Reid Ombre Stripe Polo really can be worn just like your favorite T-shirt, pairing up easily with chino shorts and white sneakers on weekend days aplenty. Yet, it’s also got that classic Billy Reid sensibility. The Alabama-based designer takes American style staples and classes them up a bit, and the Ombre Stripe Polo is the latest addition to those ranks, what with its tailored cut and mother-of-pearl buttons. It’s also fairly priced for a premium polo — make no mistake, the Ombre Stripe Polo is certainly the sort of polo you could wear with a suit or a lightweight khaki blazer. Yep, that’s right — I’m suggesting you rock this stylish polo shirt with a suit! It can (and should) be done).

It’s exactly what you’d expect from a designer like Billy Reid, who makes classic pieces that are neither too fashion-forward nor too stuffy. That’s why the Ombre Stripe Polo can be worn like a T-shirt (with light wash jeans and white canvas sneakers) or like a more tailored dress shirt (with a navy cotton blazer and tan chinos) — it’s just that well-made and that well-designed.  You should certainly be looking to add more versatile style staples like the Ombre Stripe Polo into your warm-weather wardrobe — there’s still plenty of summer left to bust out a few unexpected menswear moves. You could even break out the Ombre Stripe Polo as an alternative to a tank top when heading to the beach — it’ll work more serviceably to wear with a tailored pair of swim trunks and some stylish slip-on sneakers for a few post-beach drinks. That’s just one of the many ways in which the  Ombre Stripe Polo from Billy Reid can help you stand out in a sea of baggy, flourescent polos this summer. Get yours while you’ve still got time, and then get out there.

The List: Stay Stylish and Cool with these Summer Menswear Picks

Take a quick look around you — it’s still summer, folks. And even in these overwhelmingly hot & long days, it still behooves you (yes behooves you!) to shop for, wear, use and try out as many summer style essentials as you can. It makes sense, then, that the focus in today’s edition of The List centers around versatile, tough gear — from classic men’s boots to a refreshingly crisp and flavorful IPA to a new pair of stylish summer sneakers that’ll take you from point A to point B. OK, so without further ado … let’s get to it!

Flint and Tinder Slub Pocket Tee — $29

The classic navy tee that you’ve been waiting for.

Looking for a stylish pocket tee to wear on the weekends (and perhaps to the office under a lightweight blazer)? The Flint and Tinder Slub Pocket Tee checks all the right boxes: Excellent fit, quality fabric and the sort of easygoing versatility you only get with a classic navy T-shirt.

Bespoke Post Hair Care Kit — $86

Everything you need to keep your ‘do looking very fresh this season.

Just as essential as staying cool in the summer heat? Keeping your hair on-point. The Bespoke Post Hair Care Kit is an A-to-Z approach to doing just that.
Viberg Service Boots — $690 (Huckberry Exclusive)

Exceptional leather boots from an exceptional brand.

We mentioned above that we’d be talking about the stylish leather boots in which you should invest now — although we’re in the dead of summer, I’d wager you’re going to be very glad you bought the Viberg Service Boots when fall rolls around.
Zodiac Titanium Super Sea Wolf Watch — $1,295

Beautiful, dependable and astonishingly high-quality.

Dropping a grand on an investment-worthy watch like the Zodiac Titanium Super Sea Wolf isn’t feasible for all of us … but hey, can’t a guy dream?
Filson Feather Cloth Short-Sleeve Shirt — $68

Rugged, tough, dependable — everything you could want from Filson.

As all-American and summer-friendly as can be, this pleasingly rugged Filson short-sleeve shirt has been a favorite of mine these past few weeks — I’ve worn it with dark denim and classic suede chukka boots just as easily as it’s been paired with laidback light wash denim and white canvas sneakers.
SeaVees Hermosa Plimsoll in Railroad Stripe — $62.98
SeaVees

A neat pattern and low-profile design make these sneakers a summer must-have.

I’m always an advocate for comfortable, affordable and well-made sneakers — the SeaVees Hermosa Plimsoll checks those boxes quite nicely, my friends.
Penfield Lassard Shirt — $76.98

Your next summer shirting move.

The camp-collar shirt continues to make a serious comeback, and the Penfield Lassard Shirt might just be the epitome of a stylish retro-inspired shirt, what with a neat print and breezy midweight cotton construction.
Leatherman Skeletool KB Pocket Knife — $25

Perhaps the best pocket knife on the market, and a Huckberry exclusive, to boot.

Granted, I’m not a big camping guy or one who frequently loads up with outdoor gear — yet, I do love me a good hike through Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, and I also appreciate the handy utility brought by the durable, well-crafted Leatherman Skeletool KB Pocket Knife. Better yet, this Leatherman pocket knife is a Huckberry exclusive.
American Giant Roughneck Shorts — $79

Well-crafted shorts that pack a serious punch in terms of style and versatility.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’ve been traveing a fair amount this summer. And what essential pair of summer shorts have I brought with me? The American Giant Roughneck Shorts. The blend of tough Richochet cotton canvas and stretch fabric, plus a tailored fit, plays nicely with all manner of summer essentials.
Upslope Brewing Citra Pale Ale — Price Varies

Cheers to summer, my friends. A job well-done by Upslope.

Last but not least … y’all know I love a great craft brew, right? If you find yourself out West in Colorado, you’d do well to track down some beer from Upslope Brewing. A Certified B Corporation dedicated to protecting the environment and meeting stringent quality and production standards, Upslope has done quite the nice job with its Citra Pale Ale, which I’ve had the chance to test out over these past few weeks. Cheers!

OK, my friends. I’m curious to know — which of the above summer style essentials are you digging? I positively love the Viberg Service Boots — that’s all there is to it. Let me know on Twitter! And thanks for reading, as always.

The List: Keep Summer Going with The Best Men’s Gear to Shop This Month

Does the search for versatile men’s style essentials ever really end? Y’know, the type of pieces you can count on season after season? My inclination is … nope, not really. That’s why we’re back again today with another edition of The List, packed with what are sure to be some of your new favorite pieces. Witness, among other picks: The rugged denim jacket that’s built for bonfires,  stylish dress pants for your next summer wedding, and some surefire men’s grooming essentials. That’s just to start. Let’s get to it!

Flint and Tinder Denim Trucker Jacket — $168

A classically rugged denim jacket for summer nights.

A rugged denim jacket is your secret summer style move for breezy days and nights — the Flint and Tinder Denim Trucker Jacket is absolutely the one you need. Wear it with slim tan chinos and a white slub T-shirt.
Taylor Stitch Telegraph Trousers in Evergreen — $148

Slim trousers, perfectly able to be worn to your next summer wedding.

What are you wearing to that mid-summer wedding? Hopefully, a pair of tailored trousers as stylish and well-cut as the Taylor Stitch Telegraph Trousers, perhaps paired with stylish brown leather brogues.
Ratio Coffee Ratio Eight Coffee Maker — $464.98
Ratio Coffee Maker

The nicest coffee maker you can buy right now? Nearly.

I’m admittedly a sucker for a good cup of coffee — and this Ratio coffee maker brews a DAMN fine cup of coffee. Is the Ratio Eight Coffee Maker a menswear essential, per se? Not quite. But it’ll certainly give you a pep in your step.
Free Fly Bamboo Henley — $60

A comfortable henley made with performance and rugged style in mind.

Never underestimate the power of a rugged henley when it comes to providing comfort and layering potential on cool summer nights — especially when worn with that Flint and Tinder Denim Trucker Jacket.

A jam-packed box filled with skincare essentials.

Make things easy on your face in the morning (and in the evening) with the handy Bespoke Post Skincare Kit. All the men’s grooming essentials you need, delivered in one convenient package.
Red Wing Heritage Iron Ranger Boots — $320

A grail-worthy pair of leather boots — absolutely worth the investment.

If you read the blog on the regular, you know I’m an advocate for buying rugged leather boots any time of year — even if it’s a few months before you have to break ’em out. The Red Wing Iron Ranger Boots are simply … beautiful.
Instrmnt 01-B Watch — $240

A simple, clean dress watch you should wear to happy hour, the office and anywhere in between.

The best designs are sometimes the most simple. Case in point: The Instrmnt 01-B Watch. It’s sleek, it’s dressy and yet, it’s surprisingly versatile. Heck, you could even use this stylish dress watch as a touch of pared-down constrast to the rugged Red Wing Iron Ranger Boots. What say you?
Howler Brothers Gaucho Snapshirt — $89

Throw this shirt on with dark denim and tough leather boots for your next brewery trip or bar crawl.

Looking for a shirt that blends a technical edge with easygoing style? The Howler Brothers Gaucho Snapshirt, with its poly-nylon blend and cool plaid pattern, is the stylish casual shirt you need for summer.
Taylor Stitch Sun Cap in Whitewash — $55

A grab-and-go ballcap for summer adventures.

It’s not too often that you find a ballcap free of logos or unnecessary adornment, but Taylor Stitch has quite helpfully come up with the Sun Cap in Whitewash. I’d wear this stylish ballcap on a boat or to the beach.
Flint and Tinder City Slub Tee — $32

Pay homage to the Midwest — or wherever you happen to be from — with these Flint and Tinder tees.

My love for my home state and the Midwest shines through here — the Flint and Tinder line of City Slub Tees  represent well-crafted thoughtful additions to your T-shirt drawer either way. And hey, the City Slub Tee layers quite nicely under … yep, the Flint and Tinder Denim Trucker Jacket.

OK, my friends. I know it’s a tough call, but what’s your favorite on this list of summer style essentials? For me, it’s gotta be the Flint and Tinder Denim Trucker Jacket — it’s durable, it’s rugged and it can be worn any way you please. Want to see other editions of The List? Head here, then start shopping.

The Friday Read: Duke Cannon, Summer Style Essentials and New Denim from Taylor Stitch

Folks, how was your Fourth of July?? I hope it was filled with plenty of fun, relaxation, some summer style essentials for the holiday … and, yes a cold brew and a tasty hot dog or burger (or two or three!) on the grill. I’ve actually  been  on vacation myself in the rolling countryside of Zeeland (Michigan!) these past few days celebrating the holiday with my whole family — my brother, his wife and four children, and my mom and dad. I truly can’t wait! It’s been a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of NYC, but I’ve still found the time to unplug, kick back and dress in style (check out my Instagram for more there). I hope you have, too. On another note, we’re also going to ensure your weekend starts off the right way, including recommendations for grooming essentials and stylish new denim aplenty. What could be better? We’ll see you for tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week, and I’m wishing you a great weekend!

  • Perhaps you, like me, are constantly in search of a grooming refresh. If that’s the case, I can’t recommend the work being done by Duke Cannon enough. I’ve had the chance over this past week to continue exploring the brand’s line, from the refreshing Solid Cologne to the sharp News Anchor Forming Cream, which helps me style my ‘do in new ways (I’ve recently been trying out what you might call a “hard side part”). I also love the lightweight finish and refreshing feel of the Standard Issue Face Lotion, along with the essential Best Damn Beard Oil. It’s really a comprehensive approach that’s super high-quality.  If you follow me on Instagram, you can expect to see new content featuring their durable products very soon. Again, I’d wholeheartedly recommend the dependable quality and agreeable pricing that you’re getting with Duke Cannon.

  • Allow me to offer up another recommendation here when it comes to men’s style essentials — you can’t beat hard-working basics. Pieces that work every day and in every season. And you really can’t beat hard-working basics from a brand like Taylor Stitch. I’m going to be testing out pieces like the  Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Tee and the incredible-looking Taylor Stitch Slim Jeans in Cone Mills Standard — you can expect lots more on those stellar, essential basics in the coming weeks here on The Style Guide and via my Instagram.
  • Now, we’ve talked before about how necessary and essential a pair of stylish light wash jeans can be, even in summer. With that in mind, here’s a refresher on my favorite light wash jeans for The Manual.

That’s going to close out today’s Friday Read, folks. I hope you all have a safe, fun and enjoyable holiday weekend! Cheers!

The Friday Read: TRIWA Watches, Adidas Sneakers and New Summer Style Essentials from Huckberry

It’s a rainy Thursday evening in New York as I sit down to type this post, but luckily, I’ve got plenty of memories of a sunny, amazing Florida trip to look back on this past weekend (if you follow me on Instagram, you’re well aware of the trip!). At any rate, it’s nice to be closing out a long work week on the fashion PR grind. That brings me quite nicely to my next point — with the Fourth of July falling in the middle of next week, it’s high time you loaded up on summer style essentials for the holiday. To help with that quest, I compiled the best deals from Huckberry this week, from camping gear to new menswear. They won’t last long — count on it. Alternatively, you’d also do quite well to shop this week’s edition of The List, a shopping series that’s packed with men’s style essentials for rugged getaways and easygoing vacations alike.  Lastly, if you’re struggling with what to wear for the Fourth of July, I’d point you toward our #OOTD series here on the ole blog.

  • It’s time to throw on the summer shirt you didn’t know you need — the easy, versatile, breezy popover shirt. I’m in need of a stylish popover shirt myself, and this list of the best popover shirts for men from GQ.com should prove quite helpful.

  • Sneakerheads, here you go — for an agreeable price, you can get sporty, lightweight summer style courtesy of the Adidas F/22 Primeknit. Learn more via my latest footwear feature for GearMoose (wink, nudge).
  • Perhaps my favorite summer knit might be the trusty, rugged short-sleeve henley. There are plenty of great brands making nice iterations out there, and it’s with that spirit in mind that I wrote about the best short-sleeve henleys for The Manual this week.

  • TRIWA is a new watch company — to me at least — that stands out from the pack. Quite stylishly, too. Here’s the gist: They make durable timepieces with, among other products, recycled plastic. And they’re at it again with a new launch — the TRIWA x HUMANIUM METAL Watch is a new favorite of mine (you know that if you’ve checked out my Instagram Stories this week!). Soon enough, you can get your hands on one for yourself — at least, if you pre-fund the partnership now. This tough, hard-wearing, rugged watch will be made from destructed illegal firearms and will serve as a solution to gun-related violence in conflict-torn societies — that’s pretty neat, right? Right.

That’s going to do it for me today, folks. Up next this week: Potentially, a show by revered British shoegaze pioneers Slowdive at the Brooklyn House of Vans this weekend … maybe. In the meantime, I’ll be tracking down some iced coffee, shopping for a bit of menswear, and generally enjoying life! Beer in hand, ideally.

Thanks for reading!
