See Now, Buy Now: The Taylor Stitch Indigo Waffle Jack Shirt is a New Winter Essential

A new take on the Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt, essential fabric and all.

Have you been searching high and low for men’s style essentials from one go-to brand? A company that makes things easy and stocks a wide range of basics that … aren’t quite so basic? A brand like Taylor Stitch, naturally? You’re in luck, because everyone’s favorite San Francisco-based menswear purveyor is now stocking gear like the Indigo Waffle Jack Shirt in a simple, aptly named collection called Taylor Stitch Essentials — consider your winter shopping sorted, to say the least. The Indigo Waffle Jack Shirt is part of a well-curated collection of pieces that are going to work in any season and virtually any style situation, exactly what one would expect from the fine folks at Taylor Stitch. That means you can pair it with other like-minded pieces from the brand, like slim tan chinos or inky selvage denim — all the while, the Indigo Waffle Jack Shirt is going to break in handsomely thanks to that indigo texture.

A richly textured indigo shirt, made for winter layering.

Garment-washed cotton brings out the rich texture and stylish nature of this shirt, which should fit perfectly and wear nicely right out of the box. That’s because Taylor Stitch has its shirting dialed in to fit most (if not all) guys perfectly — the use of exact chest measurements (I.E. A size 40 chest equates to a medium) takes care of that. The Indigo Waffle Jack Shirt also features a pleasingly rounded button-down collar and a visually interesting front chest pocket. Those two touches put this shirt squarely in casual territory, yet it’s able to be worn easily with something like a charcoal herringbone blazer and burgundy corduroys at the office. The fit and fabric of the Indigo Waffle Jack Shirt also lends itself to being worn as laidback as possible — think expertly faded denim and rugged leather chukka boots, sleeves rolled and stylish leather watch on your wrist. The refreshing thing about the Indigo Waffle Jack Shirt is that it’s going to work as hard as you do — it won’t fall apart like a cheaply made shirt from a fast fashion retailer. If you ask me, that’s all you need to consider when shopping for your new favorite winter shirt.

Taylor Stitch

The timeless California Shirt, done up in a winter-friendly brushed cotton. Holidays, here we come.

Ready or not, the holidays are … essentially just days away. How are you dressing? And what are you gifting? As we’ve talked about this week, you might want to use this time to kill two birds with one stone, as they say. In my estimation, that means picking up a stylish Taylor Stitch shirt for yourself … and perhaps for someone else, too.  Yes, we’re back at it again with the lauded California-based menswear brand, makers of plenty of classic men’s shirts — and the one you see at the top of the page in particular. That shirt, my friends, would be the remarkable Taylor Stitch California Shirt in Ash Windowpane ($128), a rugged winter shirt that more than rises to the occasion. Santa himself would be envious of this shirt. It’s that good. Made with 100 percent organic cotton that’s brushed for an incredibly soft feel, it checks all the boxes one might expect from any number in the Taylor Stitch shirting lineup.  I’m always consistently impressed with the fit and feel of these shirts (A note: I wear a size 40 at 6’1″). We’re talking a tailored-but-not-tight fit, plus that signature California collar — it’s substantial without being too wide, yet it’s got a nice construction that frames your face. Sounds like a great shirt to gift or wear this holiday season, right?

Taylor Stitch review

The addition of front button chest pockets is handy and useful.

And the specs make it more than worth spending a little extra on. Again, it’s coming from Taylor Stitch, so you’re getting durable touches like lock-stitched buttons and buttonholes, plus double-needle felled construction and that crucially tailored fit. I told you the Taylor Stitch California Shirt in Ash Windowpane checks plenty of boxes. It’s rugged without going over the top — the windowpane pattern is nicely muted atop the ash fabric. The Taylor Stitch California Shirt in Ash Windowpane is the kind of shirt you’re going to want to throw on with a classic white T-shirt and some slim tan chinos  for a casual evening at home. Yet, you can also dress it up under a navy herringbone blazer. An added benefit? The tail of this shirt is the perfect length be worn untucked (with slim faded denim) or tucked in (perhaps with the Taylor Stitch Telegraph Trousers). Can the Taylor Stitch California Shirt in Ash Windowpane do it all? Gift it to someone — or snag it for yourself — and find out.

A handsome, rugged and stylish jacket. Perfect, right?

In the case of the Taylor Stitch Montara Jacket, it starts with the cotton-nylon shell, made to ward off weather and layer up over a rugged crewneck sweater or a classic chambray shirt. The stand-up collar is also another signifier of a classic Harrington jacket, which makes it an easy and polished option to wear for all manner of style situations — including fall and winter travel, or a laidback weekend coffee run. The Taylor Stitch Montara Jacket is every bit as stylish and versatile as the rest of the brand’s gear — it even features handwarmer pockets, making it more hard-wearing than other, more lightweight Harrington jackets. The Friday Read: Duke Cannon, Summer Style Essentials and New Denim from Taylor Stitch

Folks, how was your Fourth of July?? I hope it was filled with plenty of fun, relaxation, some summer style essentials for the holiday … and, yes a cold brew and a tasty hot dog or burger (or two or three!) on the grill. I’ve actually  been  on vacation myself in the rolling countryside of Zeeland (Michigan!) these past few days celebrating the holiday with my whole family — my brother, his wife and four children, and my mom and dad. I truly can’t wait! It’s been a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of NYC, but I’ve still found the time to unplug, kick back and dress in style (check out my Instagram for more there). I hope you have, too. On another note, we’re also going to ensure your weekend starts off the right way, including recommendations for grooming essentials and stylish new denim aplenty. What could be better? We’ll see you for tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week, and I’m wishing you a great weekend!

  • Perhaps you, like me, are constantly in search of a grooming refresh. If that’s the case, I can’t recommend the work being done by Duke Cannon enough. I’ve had the chance over this past week to continue exploring the brand’s line, from the refreshing Solid Cologne to the sharp News Anchor Forming Cream, which helps me style my ‘do in new ways (I’ve recently been trying out what you might call a “hard side part”). I also love the lightweight finish and refreshing feel of the Standard Issue Face Lotion, along with the essential Best Damn Beard Oil. It’s really a comprehensive approach that’s super high-quality.  If you follow me on Instagram, you can expect to see new content featuring their durable products very soon. Again, I’d wholeheartedly recommend the dependable quality and agreeable pricing that you’re getting with Duke Cannon.

  • Allow me to offer up another recommendation here when it comes to men’s style essentials — you can’t beat hard-working basics. Pieces that work every day and in every season. And you really can’t beat hard-working basics from a brand like Taylor Stitch. I’m going to be testing out pieces like the  Taylor Stitch Heavy Bag Tee and the incredible-looking Taylor Stitch Slim Jeans in Cone Mills Standard — you can expect lots more on those stellar, essential basics in the coming weeks here on The Style Guide and via my Instagram.
  • Now, we’ve talked before about how necessary and essential a pair of stylish light wash jeans can be, even in summer. With that in mind, here’s a refresher on my favorite light wash jeans for The Manual.

That’s going to close out today’s Friday Read, folks. I hope you all have a safe, fun and enjoyable holiday weekend! Cheers!

See Now, Buy Now: The Taylor Stitch California Shirt Belongs In Your Summer Wardrobe

Yet another standout summer style essential from Taylor Stitch. From the rich indigo color to the cool pattern, it’s just … excellent. Styled here with the terrific Timex x Form-Function-Form Horween Leather Watch & the “Hustle” Oxford Pennant.

As we all know here at The Style Guide, we preach quality over quantity, investing in timeless pieces and then, well, wearing the heck out of those pieces. From the perfect white T-shirt to a must-have short-sleeve shirt, Taylor Stitch is a brand that, at least for your humble author, makes a TON of those sorts of pieces. And the latest one for your consideration? Well, that’d be the Taylor Stitch California Shirt, as seen above. The California Shirt is absolutely a summer style essential that’s too good to be true. Well, nearly too good to be true. How’s that so? As I type I happen to be wearing the California Shirt — and it’s every bit as good as advertised. The California Shirt in Indigo Pyramid is, first and foremost, made from seriously cool indigo dyed slub cotton. That gives it a unique feel and texture, perfect for wearing on its own this summer, or else atop a striped tee or henley. Make no mistake, though — the California Shirt isn’t flimsy … nor is it overly heavy. It’s just right.

It’s a shirt that manages to feel laidback and yet just ever-so-slightly refined — chalk that up to the brand’s perfectly-sized California collar (able to be worn with or without a tie). Plus, the perfect length allows the California Shirt to be worn tucked in or untucked. What does that mean for you, well-dressed fella? That means you should feel free to wear the California Shirt with all manner of summer style staples, from classic khaki chinos and white canvas sneakers to dark denim and stylish brown leather brogues. On that note, you can layer the California Shirt in Indigo Pyramid under or over darn near anything, too. The California Shirt works atop a slub T-shirt for a summer bonfire, or beneath a rugged military jacket on a breezy summer night. Don’t forget: You can also wear the California Shirt in Indigo Pyramid all on its own with slim light wash denim and suede chukkas, sleeves rolled up. For $125, that’s plenty of styling potential. In fact, it might be all the summer styling potential you need.

Are you a fan of the California Shirt in Indigo Pyramid? What say you of these styling tips?

Style Pick of the Week: Taylor Stitch Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt

The same cut and styling potential as the brand’s Jack Shirt, upgraded for summer.

Ladies and gentlemen, the makers of some of your favorite shirts are turning things up to 11 … and dialing back the length of the sleeves on your new favorite summer, essential, no less. We’re talking, of course, about the Taylor Stitch Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt, a version of the brand’s Jack Shirt (as the name would imply) that certainly belongs on your list of summer style must-haves.  If you ask your humble Style Guide editor, the folks at Taylor Stitch really can do no wrong — they get all the details right across the board, and they’ve turned their collective attention toward a heck of a finished product with the Taylor Stitch Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt.

If you haven’t yet come around to the utility and style inherent in wearing a stylish short-sleeve shirt this summer, it’s about time you did. The right short-sleeve shirt emphasizes your chest and shoulders while getting rid of the bulk and extra fabric that even more casual long-sleeve shirts bring to the table. A slim short-sleeve shirt like the Jack Shirt can work in each and every way that a polo might, all the while offering a cooler look and feel than said polo. It’ also sits squarely in the casual  realm — more dressed up than a T-shirt, yet just as easy to pair with laidback style staples like slim summer shorts. The fact that the Taylor Stitch Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt, does all this while also being priced under $100 is worthy of applause.

The details, done right. Another great product churned out by Taylor Stitch.

The unique fabric is another MAJOR (and I mean, MAJOR) selling point when it comes to the Taylor Stitch Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt. The 100 percent organic cotton, waffle-woven fabric keeps you cool and breezy in the heat — plus, it stands out visually when layered under a rugged denim jacket on chilly summer nights. The unbreakable Japanese urea buttons are one of those small design touches that also set the Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt apart — you’re certainly getting your money’s worth here. The neutral grey color also makes the Jack Shirt quite easy to style with, well, everything in your summer wardrobe. Olive chinos and brown leather loafers? Reach for the Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt. Slim light wash denim and white canvas sneakers? The Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt. A denim jacket, khaki chinos and suede chukkas? Bingo: It’s the Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt. Heck, you can even layer the Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt under a navy blazer — it’s an easy way to beat the heat while still looking polished. The Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt is a summer style essential … don’t you agree?

Who else can get behind picking up the Short-Sleeve Jack Shirt this summer? How are you wearing your shirt this season? Let me know in the comments!
