The Thursday Buy: This Flint and Tinder Waxed Jacket is an On-Sale Style Steal at Huckberry

When the going gets tough, when frigid winter weather rolls into town, the truly tough wear Huckberry gear and menswear. At least, that’s what I tend to say, and tend to reach for in my personal wardrobe, and perhaps you’re of the same opinion. That’s what makes it so much fun — yes, fun! — to shop for staple selections like one of the best waxed jackets for men.

And when that particular selection happens to be on sale via the Huckberry Winter Sale right now, that’s all the better, is it not? Yes indeed, the Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Quilted Ranch Jacket falls right in line with the San Francisco and Austin-based company’s ethos of rugged Americana and adventure gear.

Even better still is the fact that right now, it’s marked down to below $200. Yes, that’s right: One of the best jackets for men, period, is $200 off — and in a range of sizes and classic colors, like the handsome Charcoal option shown above.

In matters of durability, toughness and style, the Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Quilted Ranch Jacket checks all he proper boxes, as one would expect from the famed retailer’s Flint and Tinder line. The Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Quilted Ranch Jacket is made in the USA, lending it an extra level of care and attention to detail, while the 10oz. waxed canvas exterior is sturdy, tough and made to get better with age.

The Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Quilted Ranch Jacket also boasts an ultra-warm flannel lining, while the jacket itself also features 4oz. of insulation for added warmth. It’s a tough-as-nails jacket fit for work or play, from brisk mornings in the fields to nights at the dive bar.

Plus, as our friends at Huckberry note, this jacket features a “re-waxable exterior for a lifetime of water-resistance.” How’s that for a jacket you can depend on for seasons to come? If I were you, I’d scoop up the Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Quilted Ranch Jacket as soon as possible.

See Now, Buy Now: The New Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt in Washed Indigo Updates a Classic Men’s Shirt

Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt review.

In terms of menswear essentials, there are a few tried-and-true, certified classic staples that belong in a man’s wardrobe: Pieces like the blue jean and the rugged henley, of course, but more polished selections like one of the best Oxford shirts for men (as seen above, of course).

Not quite as polished as a dress shirt but more cleaned up than a denim shirt, there are more than a few brands making modern updates to this iconic silhouette, and naturally, that includes my friends at Taylor Stitch.

The Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt is a prime example of a casual-yet-versatile shirt for men done right, and it’s long been a staple in my own menswear wardrobe.

With details like the brand’s expertly rolled collar, a chest pocket that stays true to classic Oxford shirt designs, and the perfect length to be worn tucked in with Taylor Stitch chinos or untucked with dark blue denim, it hits all the right notes.

That’s high praise, to be sure, but it gets even better: Taylor Stitch was founded in San Francisco about 15 years ago with an obsessive focus on the best shirts for men, so it only makes sense that the Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt is a winning style as far as the best Oxford shirts for guys.

And yet, the brand just doubled down with the latest iteration of the Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt — now, it comes in a handsome and ever so slightly rugged 6.5-oz. 100% organic cotton, washed indigo Oxford variety for a change of pace from the norm.

As the company says, its indigo yarns will “fade beautifully over time,” a touch I appreciate in shirting, knitwear and more. And as with past examples of the style, this version of the Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt comes in helpful, expertly fitted chest sizing — in my experience, a size 44 works wonders for my build. If you feel the same way, or if you’re simply looking for a slight style swerve from the norm in terms of a newfound update to a classic, then the latest and greatest Taylor Stitch Jack Shirt could be just what the (style) doctor ordered.

The Tuesday Steal: This Rugged Outerknown Flannel Shirt is an On-Sale, Comfortable Must-Have

Any time I stumble across a style staple that just so happens to be perfectly of the moment and on sale at a steal of a deal (hence our weekly tradition of “Tuesday Steal” stories), well, I’m impressed and certainly tempted to make a wardrobe upgrade.

That just so happens to be the case with the Outerknown Transitional Flannel Utility Shirt, another standout, expertly cut shirt from the makers of the famed Outerknown Blanket Shirt. While the best-selling Outerknown Blanket Shirt comes in tightly woven twill-esque knit in a range of vivid colors and plaids, your new favorite flannel shirt — one that’s on sale for 30 percent off right now — takes things in a slightly different direction for your cozy winter menswear wardrobe.

Helpfully, the Outerknown Transitional Flannel Utility Shirt boasts the same versatile construction as other Outerknown men’s shirts, in this case boasting two flap patch pockets for your everyday carry essentials.

That feature, plus its cut (with room to layer a henley shirt or a graphic tee underneath) gives the Outerknown Transitional Flannel Utility Shirt a sense of wearability in situations far afield or closer to home — cold-weather outdoor excursions or weekends with coffee in front of the fire come to mind.

And crucially, the Outerknown Transitional Flannel Utility Shirt should live up to its name — 100 percent organic cotton construction should prove ultra-soft and easy to wear, whether layered or styled all on its own.

The charcoal color of the Outerknown Transitional Flannel Utility Shirt also features a distinct jaspe texture, which elevates it above other workshirts. And like all things Outerknown, the use of organic cotton gives this rugged flannel shirt a sense of sustainability (in addition to style points, of course).

See Now, Buy Now: The Flint and Tinder Midweight Terry Collection Features Your New Favorite Sweatpants

Best hoodies for men.

In my experience, looking for style staples needn’t be too complicated — or rather, sometimes, you just want a sturdy, reliable, hard-working and yet casual look, perhaps one anchored by one of the best men’s hoodies. It’s a simple sportswear selection made modern when done the right way, as you can see above with the Flint and Tinder Midweight Terry Collection at Huckberry.

The classic hoodie has morphed over the years into a piece that can be casually layered and worn in situations far from the gym. For instance, you can team your new Flint and Tinder hoodie with a rugged waxed trucker jacket, underneath a denim jacket or a field coat, or wear it as a trusty, comfortable all-day travel essential.

Huckberry also recommends styling this reliable new hoodie in classic sportswear fashion, as with joggers and canvas sneakers — weekend coffee runs have never looked so stylish, at least in my experience.

Sturdy loopback cotton gets a garment-washed treatment for softness and comfort right out of the box, while the new Flint and Tinder Midweight Terry Hoodie boasts a durable, dependable design. Features like a double-layer hood and double-layer cuffs see to that sturdiness, while its kangaroo pouch is a staple found on the best hooded sweatshirts for men.

True to form, the Flint and Tinder Midweight Terry Hoodie comes in a range of classic, casual colors, including a sporty shade of heathered grey and even an eye-catching deep green.

Best men's hoodies.

While the Flint and Tinder Midweight Terry Hoodie might seem simple on the surface, it’s built with the kind of durable details that make a big difference when it comes to casual sportswear — made for the gym, the open road and well beyond.

The Sunday Sale: Save 30% On this Hard-Working Trucker Jacket from Triple Aught Design

Best trucker jackets for men.

It’s not every single day that you come across a jacket that truly blows you away, one that makes you take notice and marvel at its specs, its hard-wearing build and its overall exceptional design. High praise, no?

And in my line of work writing this Brooklyn style blog, it’s a high bar to clear, but Triple Aught Design and the Triple Aught Design Outrider Jacket meet the moment, and then some.

As far as the best trucker jackets are concerned, this one deserves its time in the sun (and in your wardrobe), and the even better news? The Triple Aught Design Outrider Jacket is on sale right now, and it just might prove a worthy competitor to other trucker jackets in your rotation — seriously, folks. It’s got the modern specs, the durable design and the classically cool good looks to be worn in four seasons — let’s take a closer look, shall we?

Like Huckberry and other brands striving to make the best men’s trucker jacket (and more), the good folks at San Francisco-based Triple Aught Design believe in adventure, the great outdoors and the versatile, modern-yet-classic gear to go from point A to point B and beyond, from out in the field to back home bellied up to the bar.

Triple Aught Design Outrider Jacket review.

Triple Aught Design uses modern, innovative fabrications (like the British Millerain Sahara canvas found on this jacket), while also nodding to the past (note the Type II-knife pleats on the front of this handsome trucker jacket). It’s eye-catching, hard-working gear that I can certainly appreciate, and I hope you’ll feel the same way.

And what better way to get started with a brand’s wares than by scoring a handsome, rugged trucker jacket at a 30 percent discount, right? The Triple Aught Design Outrider Jacket is also treated with a Staywax finish for weather-ready durability, and it boasts cotton twill lined pockets and cotton corduroy lined cuffs — not to mention snap hip and chest pockets for ease of access.

It also comes in three dusty, earthy colors for versatility and style points in spades, and the fit should hit nicely at the hip while layering over T-shirts, henleys, flannel shirts and more — as one of the best trucker jackets for men should, of course. There’s not a jacket on the market quite like the Triple Aught Design Outrider Jacket, and you should jump at this chance to save 30 percent on a new favorite trucker jacket for your next rugged #OOTD, folks.

Style Pick of the Week: Taylor Stitch Chore Pants – Winter’s Perfect Workhorse Pant

Best work pants for men.

Winter weather assuredly doesn’t take any days off, and neither should your wardrobe — right? That’s long been the idea behind the seasonal collections dreamed up by Taylor Stitch, a brand that uses its San Francisco roots, plus a hefty dose of Americana influence, to craft hard-wearing, hard-working selections in any season — particularly winter, and particularly when it comes to the best work pants for men.

In fact, the Taylor Stitch Chore Pants check every box if you’ve been scouring the market for a refreshed, stylish, modern yet sturdy pair of men’s work pants (or casually rugged everyday pants, if that’s your jam).

While Taylor Stitch chinos are famously sturdy yet supple, polished and as ready for the office as they are for a round of speakeasy cocktails, the Taylor Stitch Chore Pants are seemingly crafted with the elements in mind, and with the specs and hardware to match.

Taylor Stitch men's pants.

The key with your new favorite work pants? Highly durable 100% organic cotton canvas in a 12.5oz. weight — heavy enough for the dead of winter, spry enough for spring and perfectly suited for fall, of course. The Taylor Stitch Chore Pants are also built with easy-to-move features, like a stonewashed finish for added flexibility and softness, plus angled hip pockets for quick access and storage of your everyday carry essentials.

Taylor Stitch Chore Pants.

Double-knee reinforced construction further bolsters the toughness of the Taylor Stitch Chore Pants, which also feature half-lined back patch pockets for secure storage of — once again — your everyday carry must-haves. And the fact that your new favorite chore pants are available in a range of dusty, earthy colors might just take the cake, at least in my experience writing Taylor Stitch reviews.

Best of all is the fact that the Taylor Stitch Chore Pants can get down and dirty when the job requires it, no doubt. And yet, they also happen to be a tough-as-nails yet stylish replacement for jeans as you visit your favorite distillery or grab a cold one at your favorite dive bar.

Add a henley or a denim shirt, top things off with a trusty sherpa-lined denim jacket, and consider the strong-as-can-be Taylor Stitch Chore Pants a new companion in matters of style, toughness and the daily grind — just act quickly, as sizes are on the move from one of the best online menswear shops out there. Cheers, my friends.

The Friday Read: An Adventure into the Agave Fields with Patrón Tequila

My friends, thanks for joining me as we kick off another weekend via the Friday Read, your source for what’s new and what’s next when it comes to menswear, spirits and more. Last week, we talked more about rugged USA-made menswear from California-based Devium, and we’re shifting gears slightly this week, as I’m on the move.

I myself have been planning a Brooklyn apartment move — which you know if you follow me on Instagram — but my latest move of sorts is one that’s taken me out of the country, down south and in pursuit of a new adventure (and a new spirit). We’re coming to you live from Jalisco, Mexico, were I’m venturing into the agave fields to learn all about Patrón Tequila and its new Cristalino expression.

This trip is part of the many hats I wear when it comes to freelance writing, including covering all manner of gear, spirits and more at Maxim.com. In fact, you can look for a dispatch on this particular trip over at Cool Material, where I’ll be diving into the world of agave.

It’s far from my first trip to the region (how cool is that!?), which brings you through the vibrant city and culinary destination of Guadalajra. I trekked to Mexico last September with El Tesoro Tequila, and I’ve also visited the region with 1800 Tequila last spring.

But back to Patrón: More than 2,500 employees work to craft this fine tequila at Atotonilco el Alto, using brick ovens and ancient Tahona stones to cook the agave and dial in that “just-right” flavor you’ve perhaps found in your favorite margarita or cocktail.

Along the way, we’re staying at the Hacienda Patrón an exclusive VIP guest house on site. Here, the itinerary includes plenty of tequila, round after round of gourmet meals, an agave cutting demonstration, a tour of Patrón facilities and a deep dive into how they make this premium spirit. Not bad for a work trip, right?

Of course, I’ll be outfitted with some of my favorite gear along the way, including sturdy Flint and Tinder work pants, my trusty Blundstone boots and even some tequila-themed headwear (workers in the tequila fields often wear oversized straw hats to block the sun, dirt and grime during long days in the agave fields).

Between exceptional tequila, next-level accommodations and the chance to put some of my favorite menswear and gear to the test in rugged fashion, my latest trip checks all the boxes for me — and for that, I couldn’t be more thankful!

There’s more to come on my jaunt to Mexico if you go ahead and follow me on Instagram, but for now, just now that we’re focused on matters of style with two upcoming weekend posts. Cheers to tequila and cheers to real-world adventures, folks — thanks for reading!

The Thursday Buy: These Sperry x Huckberry Chukka Boots are A Rugged Update to a Classic

Huckberry x Sperry chukka boots.

If you thought it was nearly impossible to improve upon the best men’s style classics, think again. The humble chukka boot has a storied heritage all its own, as does American footwear maker Sperry, innovators of styles like the boat shoe and of course, the Sperry AO Chukka. So, what does one get Huckberry and Sperry team up on a refresh to an iconic fan favorite?

Well, the answer is pretty clear right up front with the new Sperry x Huckberry AO Chukka Boots, a meeting of the minds that blends history, rugged appeal and a few fresh, revamped touches in one stylish pair of men’s boots.

Huckberry, everyone’s favorite adventure-and-Americana retailer, with a healthy respect for timeless styles (like Sperry boat shoes), says that the AO Chukka goes one step further in terms of style, sensibility and even performance.

Sperry x Huckberry boat shoes.

In fact, one of the best online retailers for men says that the Sperry x Huckberry AO Chukka Boots take “everything you know and love about a boat shoe—like the hardwearing, water-resistant leather uppers and ultimate-gripping outsoles—and combines it with the easy styling of a chukka.”

Sperry chukka boots for men.

That’s not a bad look for your footwear rotation this season and well beyond, right? No doubt about it. The handsome Sperry x Huckberry AO Chukka Boots get plenty of things right when it comes to the details and their design, including collaborative detailing inside the heel and on the tongue.

There’s a laundry list of features to love, including rich full-grain leather throughout — the kind that’ll develop a handsome patina over time — as well as the use of traction-friendly Razor-Cut Wave-Siping technology for grip on slick streets in winter, spring and, well, just about any season. Of course, rawhide laces and contrast stitching throughout, just like you’d find on classic moccasins, drive home the craftsmanship and timeless appeal of the new Sperry x Huckberry AO Chukka Boots.

What’s even better still is the fact that they’re up for grabs for under $200, and there are plenty of sizes to be had when it comes to your new favorite chukka boots. A meeting of the minds that bridges the gap between the old and the new, done by one of your favorite retailers? Sounds like your next footwear purchase has arrived, my friends.

See Now, Buy Now: This Todd Snyder Cardigan is a Luxe Update to a Classic Wardrobe Staple

Best cardigan sweaters for men.

If you’ve been keeping up with this Brooklyn style blog over the years, you very well might notice that some things have stayed consistent: A love of the best chambray shirts, classics like blue jeans and of course, staples like rugged leather boots.

But what about the erstwhile cardigan — one of the best sweaters for men, in my opinion, and one made to great fanfare (and quality) by one of the country’s best menswear designers, Todd Snyder. Yes indeed, what do you make of this style, my friends?

Even the most classic cardigan can look a touch trendy for some — or even a touch too retro or stuffy — but there’s no doubt (in my experience) that the Todd Snyder Organic Cotton Cardigan is a picture-perfect example of the style if you want to switch up your rotation of the best men’s sweaters.

Best sweaters for men.

The Todd Snyder Organic Cotton Cardigan gets the details correct in terms of casually cool style — the ribbed texture gives it a dash of visual interest and appeal, while cardigans made from fibers like cashmere might be more refined.

A contrasting placket also adds a dash of intrigue — the Todd Snyder Organic Cotton Cardigan is a crisply cut sweater that’s as at home over a stretch dress shirt as it is atop a T-shirt or a long-sleeve waffle henley.

The Todd Snyder Organic Cotton Cardigan is part of the perfect mix of high-low style: Try it underneath a blazer (but atop a T-shirt in a solid color), or else style yours with the aforementioned dress shirt, a knit tie and chinos at the office.

The Todd Snyder Organic Cotton Cardigan is even fashioned with raglan sleeves for a further shot of contrast and a flattering fit — this luxurious sweater is pricier than other sweaters in your rotation, but worth your hard-earned cash all the same, particularly given its versatile color. As the brand says, your new favorite sweater is here, and it might just be the Todd Snyder Organic Cotton Cardigan

The Tuesday Steal: This Wool-Lined Version of the Best-Selling Flint and Tinder Trucker Jacket is Now On Sale

Flint and Tinder Wool-Lined Waxed Trucker Jacket

It can be hard to improve upon even the most rugged men’s style essentials, the gear you turn to on the daily — for yard work, for backyard hangs and for adventures far afield. So when a company like Huckberry doubles down, takes one of its best-selling pieces of all-time, then revamps and builds it even better — all for a on-sale price at the moment — it’s worthy of your time, attention and cash.

That brings us to the latest edition of the Flint and Tinder Waxed Trucker Jacket (or, the latest on-sale edition, rather), and the Flint and Tinder Wool-Lined Waxed Trucker Jacket. It’s up for grabs now via the Huckberry Sale section, which is certainly a stellar place to score some savings and style after the holiday rush.

Right now, you’ll notice that the Chocolate iteration of the Flint and Tinder Wool-Lined Waxed Trucker Jacket is yours for the taking, with a deep, earthen tone and the same standout specs you’ve come to expect from the retailer. That discount, mind you, is good for 20 percent off — not bad, right?

When it comes to this hard-wearing waxed jacket, that means all the bells and whistles Huckberry can muster — which is quite a few, if you’ve shopped the fan-favorite Americana retailer before.

If you’ll recall, those bells and whistles include a tough-as-nails, weather-resistant Martexin 8.25 oz. shelter cloth shell (waxed on both sides), construction featuring a Japanese wool blanket cloth interior, and sturdy custom hardware.

t’s an impressive rundown from a retailer that knows a thing or two about gear built for the great outdoors, and you can even re-wax the exterior of the jacket for further dependability. Plus, given the fact that this version of the Flint and Tinder Wool-Lined Waxed Trucker Jacket is marked down to $286 from $358 (savings of 20 percent), I’d say you’re getting plenty of bang for your buck.
