Style Pick of the Week: Flint and Tinder American-Made Heavyweight Pocket Tee – Your New Favorite T-Shirt

Flint and Tinder men's T-shirt review.

In my experience, it’s hard to go wrong with just about any set of menswear essentials from the good folks at Huckberry. The famed retailer has a knack for getting the job done, especially in terms of style classics like one of the best T-shirts for men. That holds true as we roll into early fall, and that makes the Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Pocket Tee a new style classic for your seasonal layering (and solo style!) needs.

Made from a durable heavyweight cotton, this rugged T-shirt gets all the details right, and it’s particularly well-suited to pair up with the famed Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Waxed Trucker Jacket as fall weather creeps in, slowly but surely. The Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Pocket Tee features a rugged build and a garment-dyed finish, all the better to wear alongside a pair of expertly faded blue jeans or Flint and Tinder’s essential 365 Pants.

The ribbed collar of the Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Pocket Tee holds its shape over time, while the USA-made construction of your new favorite T-shirt should round out your casual wardrobe nicely. In my experience, Huckberry’s quality stands the test of time, and that makes this tee worth the higher price tag compared to other men’s T-shirts.

Take your pick from more than 9 colorways of the Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Pocket Tee, and then style it as you please: Underneath a denim shirt, beneath a Flint and Tinder trucker jacket or all on its own. That’s the kind of quality menswear I can appreciate, and I hope you feel the same way.

The Friday Read: Breitling’s Newest Watches & New York Fashion Week 2024

My friends, welcome back to another edition of the week-closing, weekend-opening post we like to call the Friday Read around here. We tend to touch on a bit of everything in these posts, be it one of the best new bars in New York City, early fall menswear from Huckberry or both at the same time, and so it goes again today.

Flint and Tinder Waxed Trucker Jacket review.

It’s an especially momentous day in particular here, as we look toward a lovely weekend in the Big Apple — one packed with menswear galore, naturally. New York Fashion Week has revved up to full speed these past few days, and as part of my many freelance writing pursuits, I get the chance to indulge in runway shows and events aplenty, as with the debut last night of new watches from famed Swiss watchmaker Breitling at an event in the Meatpacking District.

In addition to debuting a handsome trio of 140th anniversary edition watches late last week, the watchmaker also just launched a series of Breitling NFL timepieces, a perfectly luxurious and stylish way to support your favorite team.

And with accommodations provided by the Gansevoort Hotel, I found the evening to be the ideal blend of refinement, taste, style and of course, American football. Elsewhere, I’ve stayed plenty busy on the writing front, especially with my daily pursuits for Maxim.com, where I covered Breitling’s 140th anniversary edition watches.

In the meantime as you prep for the weekend, I’d recommend you head over to the pages of this very blog to learn about how to win $12K — and rare Pappy Van Winkle whiskey! — from Huckberry itself. It’s a deal not to be missed, and it runs through September 26th – there’s never been a better time to shop the best fall menswear from Huckberry, quite literally.

You can also keep up with all the fall #menswear fun from NYFW and beyond if you follow me on Instagram, so give that a look as you wait for tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week. As always, stay stylish and thanks for reading!

The Thursday Buy: Shop Huckberry’s Annual Pappy Van Winkle Giveaway Right Now For a Chance at $12K (And Rare Bourbon)

Huckberry Pappy Day 2024.

My friends, the time is now upon us once more. Or rather, if this caught you off guard, it’s time to hit the pause button and head over to Huckberry to shop a deal that only comes around once a year: The famed retailer is giving you (yes, you!… and me!) a shot at some serious cash and some ultra-serious bourbon.

Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Bourbon.

The maker of your favorite trucker jacket, the perfect pair of jeans and some of the best men’s boots on the market (among many other things, naturally) is bringing back its 11th Annual Pappy Day, a heck of a deal for lovers of rugged fall fashion and some of the best whiskey on the planet.

Here’s the deal: Now through September 26th, spend $75 on any U.S. order of the best menswear and gear from Huckberry, and get entered to win $12K in cash and a bottle of the covetable Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20 Year.

How’s that for a standout deal on your new favorite fall menswear (and your new favorite bourbon)!? If you ask me, not much more needs to be said today, although might I recommend picking up a pair of the best men’s Chelsea boots or the iconic Flint and Tinder Waxed Trucker Jacket?

Here’s wishing you all the best of luck, the best of shopping some new seasonal style favorites, and hopefully, a toast with the best bourbon on the market. We’ll see you all tomorrow, my friends — now, start that shopping spree.

See Now, Buy Now: These Chelsea Boots from Huckberry Are an Instant Fall Classic

Huckberry Chelsea boots review.

When I’m on the hunt for early fall menswear essentials, I tend to stick with what I know, or with brands and styles I can trust — that includes rugged leather Chelsea boots, of course, and staple pieces like expertly cut denim and my favorite henley. If you feel much the same way about your rotation of men’s style essentials, you’re in luck today — in a big way.

It’s not the first time we’ve talked about Huckberry footwear here on the blog, and it won’t be the last: That’s because the Rhodes Footwear Blake Chelsea Boots were just restocked in time for fall, and there’s never been a better way to amp up your fall boots rotation.

The Rhodes Footwear Blake Chelsea Boots, part of the in-house lineup of best-selling menswear at Huckberry — a site also known for its dependable trucker jackets and stylish blue jeans — just get the job done. That’s likely an understatement, since they take the time-honored Chelsea boot and improve upon it in rugged fashion.

The Rhodes Footwear Blake Chelsea Boots start with a tumbled, broken-in leather upper for comfort right out of the box, and then Huckberry adds an extra reinforced panel for even greater toughness and durability.

Best leather Chelsea boots for men.

To really double down on workwear-ready toughness, the Rhodes Footwear Blake Chelsea Boots use a chunky, grippy and yet lightweight Meramec PU outsole with a wedge build for a more casually rugged look. Plus, your new favorite Chelsea boots boast a full leather lining for extreme comfort right out of the box — at least, that’s true in my experience with Huckberry boots.

The Rhodes Footwear Blake Chelsea Boots are also fashioned with recraftable welt construction, so you can wear ’em for days, weeks and months on end this season (and on into the next one).

Helpfully, there are a range of sizes available in both a laidback Mojave Suede and a rich, gets-better-with-age Hickory leather — when it comes to finding your new favorite boots for fall, the Rhodes Footwear Blake Chelsea Boots are a strong contender, and they’re up for grabs right now.

The Tuesday Steal: This Everlane Crewneck Sweatshirt is Now 25 Percent Off in Time For Early Fall Layering

Everlane men's crewneck sweatshirt review.

There are some menswear essentials that in my book, are almost a no-brainer to keep handy in your wardrobe of casual style picks. That goes for staples like a well-made T-shirt and durable blue jeans, as well as pieces with more sporty appeal and heritage — enter one of the best crewneck sweatshirts for men.

The grey crewneck sweatshirt has athletic roots and modern appeal, the kind that goes well with everything from the aforementioned stylish blue jeans to crisp tan chinos, particularly when worn atop an Oxford shirt (as shown above from our friends at Everlane — more on them in just a second).

It also looks great when worn in more laidback fashion, as with tapered joggers. And for my money’s worth, there’s not a better deal on the market in terms of one of the best men’s crewneck sweatshirts than the Everlane Off-Duty Terry Crew. In fact, you can score this icon of men’s style right now at Everlane for 25 percent off, savings that are tough to pass up as we roll into prime fall layering season.

Best crewneck sweatshirts for men.

As with other Everlane men’s style essentials, it all comes down to fabric and fit: In this case, French Terry cotton makes the difference, as does a classic fit that still leaves room for layering. It doesn’t hurt that the French Terry cotton of the Everlane Off-Duty Terry Crew is, in this case, organic and finished off with classic details like a grey V-stitch detail at the neck.

For layering now atop a classic tee and for layering later underneath your favorite waxed trucker jacket — and for savings of 25 percent off this very instant — turn towards the Everlane Off-Duty Terry Crew, my friend.

See Now, Buy Now: Shop the Red Wing Heritage Weekender Chukka at Huckberry Just In Time for Fall

Red Wing Heritage Weekender Chukka Boots review.

If durability, classically cool style and rugged appeal are the name of the game — which they very much are — then it’s hard to pass up Red Wing Heritage and its selection of iconic, incredibly well-made leather boots and shoes. And that’s certainly true now as it was decades ago, which brings us to the Red Wing Heritage Weekender Chukka, an utterly classic men’s boot style that’s stood the test of time.

Speaking of time: They’ve landed back in stock at Huckberry just in time for the fall season ahead, and they couldn’t be a more ideal wardrobe addition if you’re all about classic, dependable style. When it comes to the Red Wing Heritage Weekender Chukka, the specs are on point across the board, and quite literally from the ground up, in this case.

Certainly, this isn’t the first time you’ve read about some of the best boots for men, particularly from Red Wing Heritage on the blog, and it won’t be the last. Let’s carry on, shall we?

It starts with tough-as-nails S.B. Foot Tanning Company leather, which is then stitched down for a resoleable design, while a chunky Hill outsole adds toughness and traction.

The combination also includes a Texon® board insole that molds to your foot over time, while the ComfortForce footbed amps up the premium, comfortable nature of some of the best boots for men.

Add in the fact that the Red Wing Heritage Weekender Chukka manage to repel water, stains and perspiration, and you’ve got a reliable pair of boots that perform just as great as they look. Of course, the silhouette of the Red Wing Heritage Weekender Chukka is iconic and as wearable with rugged selvedge denim and a henley as it is with stretch five-pocket pants and a crisp Oxford shirt.

There are few men’s boot styles as beloved, long-lasting and well-made as the Red Wing Heritage Weekender Chukka, which is why it’s certainly worth a reminder that they belong in your early fall wardrobe.

The Sunday Sale: Take As Much as 70 Percent Off at Todd Snyder for Labor Day Weekend

If there’s one thing (among many) to love about Labor Day weekend, it’s the abundance of the best menswear deals hitting the market and running through the long weekend. It’s an ideal opportunity to shop some of your favorite designers and brands at discounts, and that certainly includes the wares up for grabs via famed American menswear designer Todd Snyder.

There’s always a prime selection of the best menswear available via the Todd Snyder Sale section, from carefully crafted T-shirts to durable denim, luxurious polos, laidback summer short-sleeve shirts and classic long-sleeve shirts fit for everyday wear.

How massive — yes, massive — are the savings this weekend at Todd Snyder? You can save up to 70 percent off on stylish menswear, including an extra 30 percent off sale styles with the code SALE30.

Step right up and see for yourself: The Todd Snyder Sale section is certainly tough to top these days, especially via summer’s last hurrah.

Style Pick of the Week: Filson Waffle Knit Henley – The Right Way to Layer for Early Fall

Best henley for men.

It seems as though it was only yesterday we were talking about the best summer style essentials here on this menswear blog, but it’s never too soon to start dreaming of crisp weather, leaves underfoot and of course, a wardrobe packed with the best fall style essentials.

I like to build my fall wardrobe from the ground up, so to speak — tough leather boots, a great pair of jeans and often, a trusty base layer like one of the best henleys for men. And in this day and age, it’s tough to get much, well, tougher and more stylish than Filson and the Filson Waffle Knit Henley.

It’s a rugged layer that’ll come in handy before you know it, whether it’s worn beneath a rugged flannel shirt or alongside your favorite trucker jacket (one from Filson would assuredly come in handy). The Filson Waffle Knit Henley is an icon in the cold-weather rotation from the lauded Pacific Northwest heritage outfitter, made with a blend of Peruvian cotton in a durable waffle-knit weave.

The two-button collar of the Filson Waffle Knit Henley gives you options in terms of customizing your fit, and it doesn’t hurt that the light heather gray color will team with just about anything in your wardrobe (indigo Filson jeans very much included). It’s also the type of staple suitable for work — crisp fall days in the yard — or play, so to speak (tailgate layering, anyone?).

And because it hails from Filson, the Filson Waffle Knit Henley is about as durable as it gets, at least in my experience with the brand. Preparing for fall just got substantially easier, all thanks to a rugged favorite from an iconic brand.

The Friday Read: A Visit to NYC’s New Wonderland Bar & Labor Day Weekend Menswear Sales

Photo: Patrick Dolande/Courtesy of Wonderland NYC

My friends, welcome back to another edition of the Friday Read, where we (and by we, I mean me) cover a bit of everything under the sun these days, from menswear to spirits and occasionally, fine dining. Often, all three go together quite handily, as I’ve found out through my many freelance writing pursuits — and my coverage of spirits, food and drink over at Maxim.

Today, we’ll step away from typical menswear coverage towards something sure to whet your whistle, so to speak (for a dash of men’s style coverage, click that link).

My passion for spirits fortunately (and rather incredibly) opens up a great deal many doors, like the chance to imbibe and sip at some of the finest restaurants in New York City. That’s never a bad way to unwind ahead of a busy Labor Day weekend, and it’s often made all the better by the companionship of my blonde-haired sweetheart Mary, a lover of fine food and drink herself.

And that led me earlier this week to the immersive, whimsical and impressive Wonderland Bar NYC, a just-opened East Village experience that’s a step up from the more typical dive bars of the surrounding area.

For one, it boasts a menu helmed by Michelin starred chef Peter He — if you’ve been watching “The Bear” or following along with the restaurant industry at large, that’s a major deal. This new spin on a Sichuan gastropub lives up to the hype, and then some.

Its cocktails are theatrical in nature from start to finish, presentation very much included, and its food menu (divided into hot and cold plates) also adds some serious flair to the dining experience.

Just witness the flaming orb presentation of the incredible Shiso Leaf, boasting gin, shiso leaf, peach, ginger, syrup and lime in, well, an orb surrounded by a flaming garnish (you can see more on my Instagram, or at the top of the page, of course).

The New Fashioned, delivered in a smoking decanter and boasting a blend of truffle-oil-washed bourbon, simple syrup and bitters, also shines, while my personal favorite happened to be the blend of gin, ginger, cardamom, peach, passion fruit and lemon found in the All My Lovin’.

Mary also loved this option, and we both couldn’t get enough of the New Fashioned. There’s a nice divide between refreshing and crisp as well as savory, and all just so happen to pair nicely with Wonderland’s diverse food offering.

Photo: Patrick Dolande/Courtesy of Wonderland NYC

A selection of pleasantly spicy, savory bites complement these cocktails in expert fashion including the Chicken Skewers (a personal favorite) and the Peppercorn Squid, the most popular dish on the menu (and the favorite at our table).

But a true highlight, in rather astounding fashion, was the Kumamoto Oyster Ensemble, an oyster topped with uni and caviar. Yes, you read that right. If you love oysters, buckle up — while the serving size accounts for just one oyster, it’s absolutely astonishing.

The space itself, with a purple neon sign looking out over a ceiling adorned with greenery, is also eye-catching in its own right (especially if you dine in a booth styled like a bird cage). It’s a touch disco, a touch whimsical and truly wondrous.

Suffice to say, Wonderland delivers every step of the way: Presentation, flair, flavor and a seriously memorable atmosphere. It won’t be the last time you hear from me on this excellent new locale, so keep your eyes peeled for my byline.

Huckberry Labor Day Sale 2024.

Now, before I let you go — and before I let you start planning your next trip to the Big Apple, or at least your next night out in Manhattan, allow me to offer one menswear recommendation fit for a dive bar or a restaurant with Michelin cred. That, my friends, would be the chance to check out the Huckberry Labor Day Sale, where you can get an extra 15% off already on-sale gear at the lauded Huckberry Sale section.

It’s part of an action-packed slate of the best Labor Day menswear sales, including prime selections from brands like Todd Snyder and Taylor Stitch. And since it’s the last gasp of summer, it’s high time you added a few early fall selections to your cart, is it not? Cheers to the weekend, cheers to excellent food and drink, and cheers to excellent menswear close at hand all the while. Thanks, as ever, for reading!

The Thursday Buy: These Faherty Brand Stretch Five-Pocket Pants are as Versatile As It Gets

Best five-pocket pants for men.

A reliable twist on the classics is sometimes a welcome change of pace, especially as you look for menswear essentials to carry you from late summer into early fall. I can hardly think of a better option for the days ahead than the Faherty Brand Stretch Terry Pants, a fresh take on the five-pocket pant that manages to be more dressy than your favorite jeans, and yet more laidback than chinos.

They’re the best of both worlds, as you’ll often find with Faherty Brand (sold reliably by my friends at Huckberry, of course).

The company specializes in ultra-soft, expertly crafted flannel shirts and Oxford shirting, not to mention classic T-shirts, shorts and hoodies — all with coastal flair and most featuring soft garment-dyed or washed finishes for a casually cool touch.

The Faherty Stretch Terry Five-Pocket Pants get all the details right, from metal rivet-reinforced pockets to a classic slim-straight leg cut that wears well with rugged leather boots or crisp leather sneakers (look for earth tones in both pants and footwear to really drive home that early fall aesthetic.

The stretch fabric (a terry cotton, for good measure) should feel comfortable no matter what, and in my experience, I’ve found that Faherty Brand pants and chinos hold their shape and durability over time.

It helps that your new favorite pants are also available in a wide range of colors to suit every taste and style, and waist sizes in some colors run up to size 42. So, you’ve got effortlessly versatile pants made from durable fabric, featuring rugged-yet-refined appeal for early fall pursuits more casual (brewery beers, anyone?) and more crisp (a day at the office). Sounds like these are a surefire winner in any season, but especially right now.
