The Friday Read: The Best New Polo for Summer, Father’s Day Gifts & A Deal on Leather Jackets

Who else is looking forward to the weekend, perhaps one packed with time on the water wearing a stylish new polo? While the closest I’ll get to the water is likely the boardwalk at Coney Island (and Coney Island Brewing!), I know what I’ll be wearing for the occasion: One of the best performance polos for men from Rhoback, a brand that does a little bit of everything when it comes to making stylish gear for active guys on the go. They specialize in everything from golf polos to quarter-zips (known as Rhoback Q-Zips) to sweatshirts and tees, and they do it all using stretch fabrics that wick away moisture and look great in the process. If I were you, I’d head to Rhoback to buy your new favorite polo (and more!) for summer. Plus, you can get 10 percent off your first purchase at Rhoback today. Get right to it, folks.

Consider that the first recommendation to lead off your weekend, with more on the way in the rest of today’s Friday Read. If you’re searching for some weekend listening, I have another pick for you (with a side of style and craft beer included, of course). If you’re not already familiar, I write a twice-weekly music-menswear-craft beer newsletter called The Style Guide In Brief, highlighting my favorite tracks of the week, shopping deals and usually, a discount on craft beer (or coffee, or whiskey) for daily sipping. Speaking of that discount: It’s the code BEAU10 for 10 percent off your order at Brooklyn’s Threes Brewing. It’s a great time! You should also be sure to check out my ongoing work at Maxim, which I frequently cap off with a brewery visit.

Visit Todd Snyder New York

Of course, I’ll be doing a little writing myself this weekend, but that’ll be tempered by my visit to Coney Island — will I see you there? Let me know in the comments, but for now, let’s get into the best Father’s Day gifts and more below today.

Best candles for men

  • On the hunt for one of the best Father’s Day gifts this year, but looking for something a little more unique? Do I have a deal for you, my friends: Give Dad the gift of a great scent in his home office or the family den with Outdoor Fellow, makers of some of the best candles for men (and anyone, really!). Here’s the scoop: Give him a candle subscription for just $89.95 a month for three months to get a new candle each month (longer subscriptions are also available). Top scents include Woods and Coastal Forest — talk about a cool Father’s Day gift this year, ehh?

Men's Jackets & Outerwear - The Jacket Maker

  • Let’s talk about another one of the best gifts for Dad, shall we? I don’t see why not. If Dad needs a new or revamped leather jacket, there’s one place to go, and that’s Angel Jackets. The maker of some of the most affordable leather jackets is running its Father’s Day sale. You can take $20 off by applying the code AJ20. That’s a mighty nice way to ensure that Dad looks great all year round, and at a great price.
  • Here’s another fun one, and a potential great Father’s Day gift for the stylish dad. Over at Maxim, I wrote about the stellar new Todd Snyder x Moscot sunglasses collaboration, a partnership Snyder undertook to celebrate 10 years in business. He revamped one of his favorite sunglasses styles for the occasion, and the results are very stylish indeed. Happy reading — and shopping!

We’re going to wrap things up today in fine form — head here to this blog post to read all about the best sneakers you can buy for under $60 this very moment at UNCRATE. I’m all about a stellar deal for summer, and you can’t top a standout price on some of the best sneakers for men. Once again, happy shopping and enjoy the weekend out there!

The Friday Read: Memorial Day Weekend Sales, A Craft Beer Discount & How to Wear Chukka Boots

Crack open a cold one from Threes Brewing, like the beers shown above (more on that in a second!) and join me in starting off the summer right. Thanks for being here for another Friday Read, as we roll into Memorial Day weekend and kick off the season ahead with plenty of the best gear picks and Memorial Day sales. Hopefully, you’ve been following my sage advice on the blog, be it the best way to wear chukka boots for summer, or else, the best summer menswear to shop at Taylor Stitch. What’s a great summer without the best gear for all of your off-trail, on-trail, in-water or on-land adventures, right? Yes, yes indeed. Of course, all of that adventure makes a guy thirsty, does it not? And it’s with that in mind that I’ll share one of the Memorial Day deals I’m most excited about.

You should head over to Brooklyn’s Threes Brewing, one of my favorite breweries on the planet, and use the code BEAU10 to get 10 percent off your first order of $50 or more from Threes Brewing. That includes only beer, not merch or food, for NYC delivery, brewery pick-up/to-go, or shipping to more than 20 states — what an excellent way to stock your fridge with crisp, flavorful lagers, delicious IPAs and so much more.

Again, that code is BEAU10 for 10 percent off, and it’ll have that beer fridge or cooler stocked quite well for the weekend and season ahead. Cheers to Memorial Day weekend — I hope you’re able to enjoy some time off with family and friends. I know I’ll be looking forward to snagging some cold beers myself at Threes Brewing.

Of course, I’ll be taking care of some writing for Jacob Graye and plenty of other sites, too. Be sure to give my byline at Jacob Graye a read there for all things men’s gear, footwear and more. Cheers, my friends!

5 of the best Menswear Brands on Huckberry | The Coolector

Quiksilver boardshorts for men

  • In need of some new summer swim trunks to round out your gear rotation? I’ve recently got my hands on some Quiksilver men’s board shorts, with a dependable, classic cut and full functionality top of mind. To say I’m looking forward to wearing them when I return to Florida later this summer is an understatement, and if I can find a way to break them out before then, consider me sold on my new favorite swim trunks.

Satchel and Page

  • Here’s one more item to consider heading into the weekend. While I would hope you’re using your BEAU10 discount code to get a discount on Threes Brewing beer, a well-stocked bar cart calls for a little something extra on a long weekend. Head to Maxim.com, then, to read about (and purchase!) the new Southern Comfort Americana bottle for this weekend and beyond. Cheers, my friends.

I hope you’re stocked up and ready, in spirit at least, for a stellar, relaxing Memorial Day weekend filled with plenty of Threes Brewing, shopping for stellar deals from Topo Designs, the the Huckberry Sale section, Jack Wolfskin and much more. One last thought: If you need an #OOTD idea for the weekend ahead, be sure to check out my guide on how to wear a short-sleeve shirt for summer. Cheers to the season ahead, and thanks for reading!

The Friday Read: Todd Snyder x Legent, A Beer Giveaway & New Wolverine Boots

Todd Snyder x Legent Bourbon Denim Jacket

The coolest denim jacket from Todd Snyder and Legent Bourbon.

Folks, cheers to the weekend and cheers to your new favorite denim jacket, as worn by Todd Snyder himself up above. It’s a restock of the collaboration denim jacket from Todd Snyder and Legent Bourbon, the ideal layer to wear for spring and summer days aplenty (and an ideal gift for Father’s Day). That’s not all we’ve got on the docket today, though (you knew that, right?). The newest edition of the Friday Read, as you might expect, is jam-packed with plenty of the best men’s style news and gear for your weekend.

Of course, last week, we talked about an heirloom leather bag to buy right now for summer travel, but let’s think of the Todd Snyder x Legent Bourbon Selvege Denim Jacket as, quite possibly, the perfect jacket for summer travel — anywhere and everywhere. So, that’s one menswear essential with which to step into the weekend. And hey, if you so please, you can read about Legent Bourbon here on the blog, and of course, you can shop Legent Bourbon for your weekend right here
Nudie Jeans Co

In addition to adding the Todd Snyder x Legent Bourbon Selvege Denim Jacket to my summer wish list, I’ve got plenty more on tap this weekend now that I’m back in Brooklyn, including plans to visit the excellent Threes Brewing (per tradition!). I’ll also be working on my music and menswear newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief, which you should certainly keep an eye out for tomorrow morning (Tuesday’s post was on the latest from Lord Huron!). What’s on your own weekend to-do list? Let me know in the comments below, and keep scrolling to find out more style wish list must-haves and choice reading picks.

Wolverine x Rawlings 1000 Mile Boots

  • Let’s play ball — or at least, let’s get you outfitted with a new favorite pair of leather boots. Two heritage brands with plenty of American spirit — that’d be Wolverine and famed sporting goods brand Rawlings — have teamed up on the new Wolverine x Rawlings 1000 Mile Boots, made using Horween leather that you’d find in baseball gloves on Major League ballfields. These boots celebrate America’s pastime in style, and for the occasion, I wrote all about them at Maxim.com. Here’s to a stylish summer, indeed!

  • Here’s a fun way to start the weekend if you, like me, love cold beer and summer travel in the sun. Keystone Light, purveyors of the perfect beer to take out on the lake or to the beach, by the six-pack or the case, is offering five $10,000 vacations this year (in the form of cold, hard cash). How to enter? Purchase a 12-pack or larger of Keystone Light and then upload your receipt at KeystoneLightSummer.com, or else scan the QR code on Keystone Light signage at your local store. Easy as that, really. If you’re over 21, you can enter until July 10thCheers, folks!

High Noon Tropical Hawaiian Shirt

  • Speaking of cold summer beer for hot summer days, how about the perfect shirt to wear for your summer vacation? Tropical Bros. and High Noon have teamed up on a fun new Hawaiian shirt, celebrating the ideal pairing of hard seltzer and hours in the sun, on the water with great friends. It helps that this shirt wears well with swim trunks or with your favorite chino shorts, and the super-stretch Hawaiian fabric is also supremely comfortable. That’s a major win for me.

That’s going to wrap up my quick-hit picks for the impending start of summer, from a fun new beer giveaway to the perfect summer shirt… and oh yeah, some rugged leather boots that also celebrate America’s pastime (seriously, I’m a huge fan of the look and styling potential of the Wolverine x Rawlings 1000 Mile Boots. That just about covers all the right bases, although I’m going to leave you with one last recommendation. And that recommendation? It’s all about the best new shorts to buy right now from Huckberry, as covered last week on the blog. Happy shopping and enjoy the weekend, folks!

The Friday Read: A Heritage-Quality Leather Bag, New Buck Mason Jackets & The Best Summer Backpack

Just as with last Friday’s weekly recap, where I talked about the best bag to buy  for a weekend getaway, well, we’re back again in fine form with my latest summer travel gear pick for your reading and shopping pleasure. After all, there’s no better way to lead into the weekend than by buying one of the best leather bags and packing it up accordingly for a safe and long-awaited getaway. In that case, my friends, allow me to reintroduce you to Satchel & Page, makers of heritage-quality leather goods of all shapes and sizes. You can check out my Satchel & Page review from 2015 on the site, but the latest on the company is that they’ve only expanded and only gotten better in the years since then.

MW08 Active Noise-Cancelling True Wireless Earphones It’s the Satchel & Page Counselor Zip Briefcase that caught my eye, the kind you can haul to work and then use as a carry-on, but might I also recommend you check out the brand’s full line of the best leather travel luggage for men? Go right ahead and start adding to your cart (and your travel wish list).

See, there’s a closer look at the Satchel & Page Counselor Zip Briefcase above — how cool is that?? Such a sweet bag. But bear in mind that we’re not only talking about Satchel & Page today. My latest weekly roundup is packed with a touch of everything for your reading pleasure, including new jackets from Buck Mason. Speaking of getting a bit of everything: Have you subscribed yet to my twice-weekly music, menswear and craft beer newsletterEvery Tuesday and Saturday, for free, I send out The Style Guide In Brief: It includes a song to enjoy, some menswear to shop, and some craft beer or whiskey (or coffee) to imbibe all the while. It’s fun, it’s free and you’re going to love it (I hope). Give it a whirl and check out the rest of the Friday Read below, folks. Thanks for reading!

  • We’ll start off Friday with, well, another reading selection. This is a great gift for the outdoorsman and a great gift for Father’s Day upcoming: The Peter Buchanan-Smith Axe Handbook is beautifully designed and packaged, and quite the gem to have on your bookshelf (or near your workspace, or at your cabin). Any fan of Best Made Co., the company Peter founded, would also do well to check out this seriously cool book. And even if you’re not the most adventurous, this helpful handbook might just spur you on towards a new passion. Get it now at Barnes & Noble.

  • If you’ve read the blog, you know the brand pictured above. That’d be the all-American purveyors of some of the best jackets for men — I’m talking, of course, about Buck Mason. I got to take a deep dive for Maxim on three new jackets from Buck Mason, each crafted with plenty of style points and supreme durability (and heritage) for the season that’s upon us. Find your new favorite jacket today at Buck Mason, folks.

  • If you loved the refined, heritage-worthy appeal of one of the one of the best leather bags from Satchel & Page, well, here’s one of the best adventure backpacks for those more inclined to outdoor adventures. The Topo Designs Klettersack, a fan favorite that’s available at the UNCRATE Supply Shop, is built to withstand harsh designs while providing plenty of compact carrying capacity. It’s as fine a Friday pick as any, correct? Yes, indeed.
  • Last but not least, here’s a helpful guide to lead you clearly into the weekend. For The Manual, I wrote all about the best way to clean your glasses and sunglasses, some advice I’ve been trying to follow myself as of late. Read up and head into the weekend with a new outlook (see what I did there?).

MW08 Active Noise-Cancelling True Wireless Earphones

OK, folks — we’re all set in style and in new shopping (and reading) picks for the weekend, I should think. But just for fun, here’s one more must-have menswear pick to pick up right now on this fine May day. Get your new favorite T-shirt from the aforementioned men’s style masters at Buck Mason in this T-shirt buying guide on the blog, and reap the rewards when you discover it’s one of the best T-shirts for men on the market. Happy shopping, and stay stylish.

The Friday Read: The Best Weekend Getaway Bag, New Spring Jeans & The World’s Oldest Whiskey

We’re through another spring week and we’re drawing closer, ever-so-slightly closer, to the days of summer travel. Right off the bat, get on out there and enjoy Mother’s Day (safely!) — more on that in a moment. I’m feeling a mixture of excitement and some trepidation, but mark my words when I say I know how I’m going to hit the road: In style, of course. If this whole road trip thing feels unfamiliar, it’s best to start, in my estimation, with the gear you’re bringing, like the best bag for a weekend getaway. That bag, my friends, comes from Herschel Supply Co. and is available right now for under $100 in an array of new, seasonally friendly colors. It’s the Herschel Novel Duffle, which I talked about here as being the best bag for winter road trips.

Well, guess what — it’s ready for spring and summer, too. It looks great, it performs spectacularly and it’s got 33 liters of carrying capacity. Call it the best weekender bag on the market, if you please, but make sure it ends up in your shopping cart to start this weekend. Now that you’ve crossed one item off your to-do list, let’s roll onward with the Friday Read.

As for me, well, I’m staying plenty busy on the road myself this weekend. My time in Florida is nearing an end, but I’ve loved the sun, the sand, the local craft beer from Point Ybel Brewing and the chance to safely catch up with family. I’ve still got plenty in the works on the writing front, including my ongoing, twice-weekly stories at Jacob Graye (more on that in a second), plus my latest and greatest for The Manual — in addition to this blog and my music-menswear-craft beer newsletter (be sure to hit Subscribe!). What’s on your weekend to-do list? Any great weekend starts, in my mind, with the coolest gear on the planet. Prepare accordingly right now.

  • Before we go too deep into, say, the best new sneakers to pair with your getaway bag, let’s talk about the best light wash jeans to bring on that weekend trip. Nudie Jeans makes styles like the Nudie Jeans Lean Dean, a classic slim-straight fit, with plenty of quality top of mind.  The tapered leg, light wash and organic cotton construction all make them worthy of the top slot to lead into the rest of today’s Friday Read.

  • I talked on the blog last week about the best new sneakers to buy from GREATS, so consider this yet another reminder that the time is here to stock up on even more of your new favorite sneakers for spring and summer. To get to the point: The GREATS Royale Eco Mesh Sneakers are lightweight, they’re sustainable, they’re easy to wear with tailored shorts or olive chinos, or light wash jeans for men from Nudie, and they’re easy on your pocketbook, too. Go on, get the best new sneakers for men ASAP. Oh, and remember that you can get 15 percent off your first order with the code BROOKLYN15.
    • Speaking of GREATS, you should know that the brand is also offering a last-second Mother’s Day promo — you can get 20 percent off orders of $75 or more with the code MOMSDAY. Talk about a perfect gift for the mom who loves sneakers, ehh?
  • As mentioned in the headline, well, I know at least one place you can go to read about the world’s oldest whiskey. Yes, that’s right: The oldest whiskey in the world in fact hails from down South in Georgia, and you can read all about the full scoop in my latest dispatch for Maxim.com. How cool is that news?? Very cool, indeed. Cheers to that.
  • Here’s another fun dispatch for you from my neck of the woods. Over at the recently revamped lifestyle site Jacob Graye, I wrote about the best beard care products for men, no matter how long or short your mane happens to be. Give it a read and try some of those stellar products out for yourself.

Let’s wrap things up for the weekend (for now) with one last dispatch for your Friday enjoyment. Battling spring rain and wind is a never-ending task based on where you live (looking at you, my friends in the Pacific Northwest), so might as well get a jacket that can match every challenge. Click on through to this blog post to read all about the best jacket for spring rain from Eddie Bauer, in fact. Stay dry, stay stylish and let’s get out there this season.

The Friday Read: Sustainable New Sneakers, Sebago x Engineered Garments & New Huckberry Gear

GREATS Royale review

Your favorite new sustainable sneakers for spring and summer.

In honor of Earth Day last week, and as part of the ongoing commitment to sustainability that we all need to make, let’s talk about some of the most sustainable men’s sneakers on the market from Brooklyn’s own GREATS. That’s a fitting way to *step* into the weekend, is it not? Sure thing. Last week, the brand released a limited-edition GREATS Royale in Indigo Dye, with each sale donating to the Global Green: Our Cities Coalition. Oh, and the kicks themselves feature a footbed made from Bloom™ algae foam, plus recycled cotton laces. So, yes, they’re sustainable from A-to-Z, and they’re also some of the most stylish men’s sneakers out there for adding a pop of (natural) indigo dye to your summer footwear rotation. I know they’re on my wish list. If they’re on yours as well, you can get 15 percent off your first order with the code BROOKLYN15.

Mack WeldonThat’s a fine way to start the weekend, in my view: By shopping for your favorite new sustainable sneakers. Of course, that’s not the only item on my to-do list. I’m still plenty busy dog-sitting in Florida (follow me on Instagram to check out the highlights!), and there’s fun in the sun and local craft beer to enjoy this weekend, plus some work on my twice-weekly newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief. I cover music, menswear and craft beer, and it’s free to your inbox every Tuesday and Saturday. What’s stopping you from subscribing, ehh?? You’ll be hearing more about that from me in the near future.  For now, I’ve got some final writing to knock out for the weekend, including my next dispatch for the Huckberry Journal. Have a great weekend, stay safe, stay sustainable and stay stylish.

  • To match up with those stylish and sustainable sneakers above, you’re going to need some equally stylish essentials this spring and summer. Enter Frank And Oak, a longtime favorite of the blog (see a few of my favorite sale picks from Frank And Oak here). The Canadian fashion brand makes a nice mix of casual and sharp basics & tailored pieces for men and women, including the Aero Ultra Light Overshirt, made from recycled bottles and other materials. It’s the sort of easygoing yet functional and cool shirt jacket you can wear for spring & summer days on the road.

  • You can’t go wrong at all with great menswear for a great cause, to say the least. Flag & Anthem, makers of Western-style and casual shirting and slim jeans (among other staples) announced that a portion of its sales this month are going towards autism initiatives and special programs as part of Autism Awareness Month via its new Autism Awareness Collection (as seen above). Oh, and you can use the code FRIENDS25 for 25 percent off everything. Again, great menswear for a great cause (and now, a great deal).
  • Two brands, one old-school and one an established player in the fashion world, have teamed up on your new favorite summer shoes. That’s right: Sebago and Engineered Garments came through with a new series of deck shoes in cool materials like suede and croc-stamped leather, and I wrote all about it for Maxim. Lace ’em up and step out in style.
  • If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it, well, probably close to a thousand times. You can get the best new menswear and gear for spring & summer at Huckberry, and I did the hard work for you (well, at least some of it). Head to this blog post to read my top shopping picks at Huckberry for the weekend ahead and well beyond. Cheers, folks.

Mack Weldon

We’re just about done when it comes to today’s Friday Read, but I’ll send you galivanting off into the weekend with one final selection. If you’ve been searching for the best spring rain jacket, it’s a very good day for you indeed. Head to this blog post to check out my insights on the  Eddie Bauer Chopper 2.0 Jacket, which is on sale right now for under $100. It’s the perfect jacket for rainy, breezy spring days on and off the trail, plus around the city. Gear up accordingly, and I’ll see you out there, my friends.

The Friday Read: The Best New Spring Watch, Mack Weldon Gear & the Best Spring Beers

CroftVintageSilverSP-5058-0A-SS13_1800x1800.jpg (1800×1800)

Folks, you know what time it is. It’s time to step into the weekend with today’s action-packed Friday Read, which covers new spring beer, new spring gear from the likes of Mack Weldon, some new SeaVees sneakers and of course, a new spring watch. The watch in question is above is one I can’t recommend highly enough. It’s coming at you courtesy of Spinnaker Watches, and I’ve had the chance to test out the brand in recent weeks. In fact, I covered one of the coolest new watches from Spinnaker just last week on the blog. There’s no doubt in my mind that the Spinnaker Croft Automatic Watch is every bit as functional, durable and stylish as you need this season. And hey, the stainless steel case, contrasting bezel and black leather strap give this rugged men’s watch plenty of versatility, too. Consider it a proper way to start your weekend — and know that there’s more where that came from.

We’ve got plenty of other ground to cover today, as you’ll find out in just a minute. As for me, I’ve been plenty busy with other freelance pursuits, including my next music-and-menswear newsletter entry. It’ll hit your inbox tomorrow at The Style Guide In Brief, and you’re also getting a Tuesday newsletter dispatch as well. It’s fun, it’s informational, it’s a great way to start your weekend (as biased as I might be, though).

If that sounds ideal to you, well, I assure you that it is. Elsewhere, I’m once again back in Florida to spend some quality time with my dogs as my parents head out on a quick trip. From time spent in the sun to time spent with Point Ybel Brewing Company beer, it doesn’t get much better. I hope your weekend is just as relaxing and enjoyable. Cheers and thanks for reading!

  • Now, how’s this for another spring shopping pick? The arrival of warm weather doesn’t mean you should revert to old-school, threadbare T-shirts. In fact, that’s why I’m recommending you get one of the best polos for spring and summer from… well, who else but Mack Weldon?? The brand’s Ace Hooded Sweatshirt has you covered for casual days at home, and the Mack Weldon Vesper Polo is as great a way as any to add a bit of polish to all those more dressed-up meetings (or rather, Zoom calls). Go for it and let me know your take.

  • What do you need to pair with your new spring polo from Mack Weldon? That’s easy: Some stylish new spring sneakers. If you ask me, I think it’s very tough to beat SeaVees sneakers, especially the sustainable and eco-conscious SeaVees Legend Sneaker Seachange. It’s the brand’s first-ever collection release with conservation group Seachange, so that’s quite the 2-for-1 deal. Get ’em right now at Huckberry.

  • Now, I mentioned above that we’d be talking about the best beers for spring, and with that being said, well, here’s what I’ve got for you. Over at GearMoose, I covered my favorite beers for the season from a wide variety of famed and acclaimed breweries. That goes for Allagash Brewing in Maine, as well as Threes Brewing “down the street” here in Brooklyn (to mention but a couple). Crack open a cold one and enjoy yourself, folks.
  • Let’s switch tracks for a second here. For Maxim.com, I’ve been quite busy these past few weeks covering all manner of new watches, but I had the chance to step outside of the watch world and cover the latest Laphroaig whisky launch, a 10-year whisky finished in Sherry Oak casks. I’ve also been sampling said whisky, and I can confirm it’s as great as it looks. Cheers and let’s raise a glass, shall we?

Frontier 30 728x90 That’ll bring us to the end, believe it or not, of another Friday Read. As I said above, be sure to check out those new spring beers, that new Laphroaig Scotch and of course, my weekend newsletter. Naturally, I also have one more guide to share before we ride into the weekend. If you, like me, can’t seem to put away your new favorite pair of boots, this #OOTD will tell you all about how to make ’em work for you this season. Lace up those Huckberry boots and we’ll see you out there.

The Friday Read: Eco-Friendly Menswear, New Luxury Watches & Swim Trunks for Summer

First off: Thanks for being here for another edition of The Friday Read, my ultimate guide to help you step into the weekend in style, preferably with some shopping picks in mind and a delicious craft beer or coffee close at hand. We’re going to start today with a theme that’s close to my heart, especially given that it’s Earth Month. Sustainability in fashion should be as important as the right fabric, the right fit or the right style essentials, and that’s where Pact Clothing (as seen above!) comes into play.

I’ve had the chance to test out the brand’s organic cotton menswear, including the Pact Vintage Snap Down, in recent weeks. These pieces are classic, well-made and affordable, and that goes for the brand’s stylish T-shirts as well as its outerwear and basics. And with Earth Day itself coming up, you should certainly start shopping for some eco-friendly menswear in a nod to the day. Some good food for thought for the weekend, yes? As if that wasn’t enough, the Pact Vintage Snap Down is on sale (as of this writing) for $50. Talk about a great deal on the most sustainable menswear out there.

america

Hopefully, that recommendation leads you on the right path to start the weekend. As for me, this will be another prime weekend for testing out more menswear from Pact, as I plan on strolling around the borough, venturing out to Prospect Park and perhaps enjoying some beers at the recently revamped and reopened Threes Brewing (always a favorite). In the meantime, I’ve also got some more writing to take care, naturally — in fact, you should head over to my newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief, and hit subscribe before tomorrow’s edition. Twice a week, I talk about music, menswear, craft beer and more. As I always say, it’s free and it’s fun! So, that’s what’s on tap for me this weekend. How about you? Before you answer that question, check out my other top shopping picks and reads for your spring days ahead. Cheers!

  • Saturdays NYC, the fashion-forward (yet still easily wearable) Manhattan-based brand, has long been a favorite of mine (since I moved to the city, in fact!). They blend the classics with fresh, modern updates, and while they started out making surfing gear, they’ve long since moved into other menswear essentials for the modern shopper. Take this classic denim jacket, for starters. The Saturdays NYC Emil Denim Jacket is as good as it gets for casual spring layering, ideally alongside the Beckett Simonon Reid Sneakers. It’s got some vintage flair and plenty of seasonal versatility. Another shopping pick down.
  • Straight from the headline of this post, there’s plenty of time to stock up on summer essentials. By that, I mean you’ve got more than enough time to find your new favorite pair of swim trunks, and it’s your lucky day. I updated my guide to the best swim trunks for GearMoose, and you’d do well to check it out and start shopping accordingly.
  • The headline aptly mentions the best luxury watches on the market, and that’s something I’ve been covering quite a bit lately. That’s because this month has brought with it the virtual return of the excellent Watches and Wonders virtual luxury watch conference, and it’s been a pleasure checking out the latest and greatest from so many of the world’s top brands (including Panerai and Breitling). In fact, I loved checking out the new Panerai eLAB-ID, a newly launched and highly sustainable watch made from nearly 100 percent recycled materials. How’s that for sustainability and style, ehh? Read more at Maxim.

That’ll wrap up today’s weekend guide in fine form, I reckon. How about that? Before we sail off into the weekend, here’s one more reading and shopping pick for you. The Taylor Stitch California Shirt has been a standard in my own wardrobe for years, and there’s at least one chance for you to score your own Taylor Stitch shirt for under $100. Yes, you read that right. Head to this post to read all about how to get the newest Taylor Stitch California Shirt for under $100. Go forth and prosper, friends! Thanks for reading, and we’ll see you back here for tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week.

The Friday Read: Sustainable Sweatpants, The Best Spring Chukka Boots & A New Spring Jacket

It’s certainly no secret that we’ve all been living a lot more in sweatpants and comfortable athleisure-focused gear across this past, what, year? That’s not likely to change right away this weekend, which is why I’ve got a pick I think you’ll certainly enjoy heading into two casual, laidback days coming up (and beyond that). I recently had the chance to catch up with PAPER PROJECT, an innovative line of essentials made with incredibly cool Japanese paper yarn. PAPER PROJECT just launched its All Day Clean Sweats Collection, a set of the best sweatpants for men (and sweatshirts, and sweatshorts) that’s going to upgrade your laidback, casual style quite quickly. The key with the All Day Clean Sweats Collection is the fact that the brand uses Bac-Pur antimicrobial finish technology to deliver odor-fighting protection, plus the sort of cool, neutral style you’ve come to expect from your sweatpants. If you ask me, they’re some of the best men’s sweatpants on the market (and they also offer basics like socks, plus women’s options, too!). I’d snag a pair heading into the weekend, but that’s not my only pick for you today.

No sir, we’ve got plenty to discuss elsewhere, including an excellent new collaboration between New Balance and famed indie record store Amoeba — I covered the New Balance x Amoeba Music x Shop Nice Kicks partnership, and you’d do well to give it a read (and to add a pair or two to your shopping cart, of course). I also covered some of the best new spring shorts for GearMoose (those would be the Relwen Hemp Supply Shorts from Huckberry), and you can read that feature here.

Part tailored jacket, part sweater, all versatility.

I’m also working on a feature on the best beers for spring for GearMoose, and that’s a passion that’s near and dear to my heart (if you subscribe to my music-menswear-craft beer newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief, you assuredly know this!) So, that’s all going to keep me busy (within reason!), this weekend. How about you? To follow along with my explorations throughout Brooklyn — which will likely include a stop by the upstate New York-inspired bar The Adirondack — you should follow me on Instagram. Alright — let’s get into the rest of the Friday Read, shall we? More shopping and reading picks await.

  • How’s this for the right way to start Friday, ehh? Step into the confines of a spring weekend with one of my top style picks of the moment, a pair of classic chukka boots to wear when you’re ready to step out of the All Day Clean Sweats, ehh? Of course, the brand on display here is FRYE, makers of some of the best chukka boots for men. ‘Tis the season to look great and choose the proper footwear, no doubt about it.
  • Allow me to provide you with another spring shopping picks, this time as promised in the headline. I’m giving you a quick deep dive into one of the best jackets for men of the moment, a style that’s a worth complement to your FRYE chukka boots. Of course, that would be the Alex Mill Work Jacket in Natural Indigo, a visually striking piece that’s made to be worn on the daily, with anything you feel like. How’s that for expert spring style, yes? Yes, indeed.
  • Alright, so there’s two shopping picks to get your weekend started nicely. How about a bit o’ reading to while away the day? Coming right up. I had the pleasure to dive into a very apt new spring beer, the Alvarado Street Brewing Wind Jammer IPA, over at GearMoose. Based on what I’ve heard about this beer, I’d be inclined to pick some up myself if given the chance. I’ll drink to fresh beer for a new season, and I think you should do the same.

That’ll wrap up today’s Friday Read. Are you feeling a little more ready for the weekend now? Be it the chance to pick up your new favorite sweatpants or the chance to sip on the Alvarado Street Brewing Wind Jammer IPA, I’d say you’re in fine shape heading into the weekend. But I’ve got one more read for you today, and that comes courtesy of this very blog. Go on and do yourself a favor by buying one of the most rugged spring jackets, courtesy of Filson. To be more specific :I covered the Filson Alcan Quilted Jacket just last week, and it’s quite the addition to your spring outerwear rotation, to say the least. Read all about it here and let me know what you think. In the meantime, have a great weekend, stay safe out there and let’s make it count!

The Friday Read: The Best Hair Pomades, The Coolest Jackets for Spring & Duke Cannon Grooming

Duke Cannon grooming review

Five of the best men’s grooming essentials to start this weekend the right way.

Alright, folks. You’ve got a lot on your to-do list, as do I, so let’s make hay while the sun shines and get into today’s Friday Read with a recommended weekend kickstart from one of my favorite grooming brands. If you read the blog, you’re familiar with Minnesota-based Duke Cannon, which makes cool grooming goods at affordable prices and supports veterans in the process. If not, you should know that (for starters), Duke Cannon gift sets deliver everything you need when it comes to men’s grooming essentials from A-to-Z, and that’s very good news for you (and anyone you know who needs a grooming upgrade this season). Case in point: The Duke Cannon Starting Five Bundle (as seen above), an easy and effective introduction to the Minneapolis-based brand, featuring the brand’s famed hair wash, plus body wash, face wash and Duke Cannon Proper Cologne to really round things out. I’m not saying it could be the best decision you make all weekend, but it could be one of the better ones.

Along with testing out my fair share of grooming products from Duke Cannon, I’ve got plenty more on my spring to-do list this weekend. I’ve started covering all things menswear at Jacob Graye, so be sure to check out my byline there. Oh, and there’s also the business of my (free) music-menswear-craft beer newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief — give it a read! Once I knock out my to-do list, I’m hoping to swing by Gold Star Beer Counter for an outdoor spring brew — it’s a perennial Brooklyn favorite, and all the better to enjoy a beer there now that temperatures are warming up. To get your own weekend rolling the right way, give these essential Friday reads and shopping picks a look below. Cheers, my friends!

Vuori Sunday Performance Joggers

A new favorite pair of laidback spring pants for all your adventures (and at-home lounging) this season.

  • Let’s get into the spirit of spring the right way — by talking about some of the best men’s pants for spring. Those pants, in fact, are shown above, and they’re coming at you courtesy of Vuori Clothing, a brand I’ve had the pleasure of testing out these past few weeks. To get even more specific, I’ve been testing out the Vuori Sunday Performance Joggers, and they’re even more essential for the season — for days at home and running errands around Brooklyn — then I had previously thought. The technical knit, moisture-wicking fabric and handy details like a side zip pocket make them your new favorite pair of pants (and mine!) this season.

Best men's pocket tees

Another weekend shopping recommendation for you, this time from a brand making one of your favorite T-shirts.

  • I’ve been talking pretty consistently about Alex Mill shirts and more from the NYC-based brand here on the blog, and with good reason. Allow me to offer up another spring shopping pick when it comes to essential Alex Mill menswear, the kind that’s classic and modern all at once. Case in point: One of the best men’s T-shirts just so happens to be this Alex Mill Vintage Wash Pocket Tee, made to fit perfectly and feel incredibly comfortable right out of the box. Start shopping for it, folks.
  • As mentioned above, well, here we go: My guide to the best hair pomades for GearMoose, all the better to get your hair and your grooming routine in the best shape possible this season. After all, you’re going to have to do up your hair eventually, right? Yes sir, yes sir.
  • Elsewhere on the writing front, I had a heck of a lot of fun covering the coolest spring jackets from some of your favorite brands, the kind that you know and love — I won’t spoil the surprise, but there are seven great picks for the best men’s spring jackets at Maxim this week. Cheers to the season, folks.

Speaking of toasting to the season, let me recommend one more pick for you — not a spirits selection, per se, but the kind of hard-wearing and yet laidback shirt you should wear for your spring imbibing sessions. Of course, that would be the Flint and Tinder Architect Shirt, as I covered here on the blog last week. It’s going to set you up for success in style, no doubt. Again, cheers to the weekend and stay safe out there!
