The Thursday Buy: This USA-Made Huckberry Beanie Is One of the Best Christmas Gifts Under $50 For Men

Best beanie cap for men.

If your schedule looks anything like mine these days, as the year somehow winds down at a sprint’s pace, then your time is probably quite limited, yes? As in, at this point, a week before Christmas, you very well might be looking for some last-minute style and gifting inspiration — and in quick succession, at that.

Well, have no fear, because Huckberry is here to save the day with one of the best men’s gifts under $50, one you’ve still got time to order just before Christmas — just in the (saint) nick of time, one might say.

Ever a reliable outlet for some of the best gifts for men, period, from sturdy waxed trucker jackets to handsome leather boots, outdoor-inspired whiskey decanters, sturdy pocket knives, essential books and cozy accessories, the Huckberry Christmas 2025 Gift Guide is a true wonder to behold.

And in addition to big-ticket items, it’s also packed with hidden gems aplenty, like the Huckberry Made in USA Watch Cap Beanie. If you’ve reached the point in your search for the best men’s gifts where it now feels like crunch time, then this number is what you’re going to want to buy ASAP; let’s make it easy on ourselves, ehh?

The Huckberry Made in USA Watch Cap Beanie offers much to love as a stocking stuffer, as a gift for that tough-to-buy-for brother-in-law, or as a solution to what to get your outdoorsy father or father-in-law at a moment’s notice. It’s far from any old beanie cap, taking inspiration from naval watch caps and using a thick-knit, snug construction with a large cuffed design for maximum coverage.

The Huckberry Made in USA Watch Cap Beanie comes in a range of colors to suit every taste, and the small Huckberry logo patch is tasteful and subtle rather than overly large (the logo size on one of the best beanie caps can sometimes be a deal breaker in matters of style, can it not?).

The great thing about this USA-made beanie is its mix of versatility in looks — a black beanie cap goes with darn near everything, does it not? — plus its highly affordable price tag.

Heck, pick up three or four if you want the fellas in your family (yourself included, perhaps?) to look cozy, dapper and casually rugged all at once. If the time has come to expedite your gifting search with affordability in mind, you’ve come to the right place for the Huckberry Made in USA Watch Cap Beanie.

The Thursday Buy: Take As Much as 60 Percent Off American-Made Menswear for Black Friday and Cyber Monday at Devium USA

Best USA-made flannel shirts for men.

Welcome to a special holiday edition of The Style Guide, everyone’s favorite menswear blog celebrating timeless style classics made modern, whether designed by an high-classic fashion brand or a rugged-and-refined Americana retailer.

It feels as fitting a day as any, with Thanksgiving Day delivering its bounty in the United States, to explore both a stellar holiday discount and a tried-and-true American menswear brand, one you’ve surely read about if you’ve kept up with the digital pages of this Brooklyn menswear blog.

We’re talking, of course, about Devium USA, the Truckee, Ca.-based brand tinged with all-American style and focused on making durable workwear and road-ready gear aplenty, from waxed trucker jackets to pocket tees, camp-collar shirts and the USA-made flannel shirt shown above and below on this page.

And while it’s often a very worthwhile investment to pick up rugged outerwear, durable denim and soft-yet-sturdy T-shirts and flannel shirting made in the States, it’s not all that often that those style staples go on sale — except, of course, if you’re shopping the Devium USA Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale.

Now through Cyber Monday (that’s December 1st!), Devium USA is offering anywhere from 20 percent off to 60 percent off sitewide on its entire array of carefully crafted, hard-working and tough-as-nails gear.

The Devium USA Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sale includes, well, everything from the truly small-batch retailer, be it the Boca American-Made Flannel shown here, a seriously limited-edition flannel-lined denim jacket, the famous Devium USA Sidewalk Vintage Tee or some supremely strong canvas work pants.

In my experience wearing a range of Devium USA menswear, including the ultra-soft yet sturdy Devium USA Sidewalk Vintage Tee, this is a range of men’s style essentials made with careful craft and the utmost quality in mind. These are selections I wear with pride, knowing they’re built to last and built to look great in the process.

100 percent American-made menswear is tough to find at the best of times, and seeing that gear delivered at a discount is a further rarity — that’s no longer the case across these next few days when it comes to the Devium USA Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sale, so act accordingly and gear up for what lies ahead, my friends.

The Friday Find: The Devium Alder Flannel Shirt is An American-Made Wardrobe Standout

Best flannel shirts for men.

As we tend to talk about week in and week out here on The Style Guide — especially in our Friday Find series, where we spotlight an unheralded brand worthy of your time and hard-earned cash — they don’t make ’em quite like they used to, except when, well, they do. In my experience, that sense of know-how, good old-fashioned hard work, rugged style and exceptional utility can still be found in the best American-made menswear, if you know where and when to look.

That’s why, again — in my experience! — you can trust Devium to deliver consistently high-quality USA-made goods, with inspiration drawn from both the auto shop, the factory line and the rich alpine climes of an upstate getaway.

Case in point might be the Devium Alder Flannel Shirt, at least as we get ever deeper into the brisk climes of fall and winter. Right off the bat, the handsome construction and utterly classic good looks of the Devium Alder Flannel Shirt call to mind something your grandfather might have worn back in the day.

In my book, that means no fuss, no frills, just dependably rugged design and the kind of classic construction made to be counted on for backyard beers, hauling brush and cozying up to the fire at the end of the day. It doesn’t get much better than that, does it?

And yes, the Devium Alder Flannel Shirt certainly delivers — starting with rich double-brushed cotton flannel fabric that just so happens to be cut and sewn in Southern California.

A mix of sturdy yet supple organic cotton flannel makes the difference, as do rich seasonal colorways and small-batch production that go well beyond the everyday plaid flannel shirt (although a man’s wardrobe needs options, so don’t count out one of those, either!).

Boasting a pre-washed design for added softness and no additional shrinkage, small touches like custom 26L matte and debossed cat-eye buttons add strong durability to the Devium Alder Flannel Shirt — an exceptional flannel shirt made for all the moments you need it this autumn and winter, my friends.

See Now, Buy Now: This USA-Made Warren Sweatshirt Is A Perfect Homage to a Classic

One of the most fun parts about getting into the menswear world, at least in my experience, is the act of discovery. Stumbling upon a brand that’s doing one (or a few things!) so well, particularly a smaller or unheralded brand, is a true delight, at least in my book, and that certainly holds true when it comes to the best USA-made menswear, like Warren, a brand I had the pleasure of discovering earlier this spring and summer.

It’s trickier than ever to invest in American-made menswear, a time-consuming endeavor that not all that many are willing to take on these days — and then, there’s New England-based Warren, an upstart with a deep commitment to high-quality domestic manufacturing and an emphasis on truly timeless classics, like one of the best crewneck sweatshirts for men (as you’ll find out today).

Founded by Peter Holoien a little over two years ago, the brand has been working with traditional cut-and-sew mills in New England (the Ringer Sweatshirt is produced in Fall River, Massachusetts) to deliver highly durable, well-crafted classics.

Those USA-made menswear classics include a line of cotton twill shirt (the Warren Six Season Shirt), a durable pair of utterly timeless chinos, a super-soft long-sleeve pocket tee in some excellent colors, a crisply cut short-sleeve pocket tee and two eye-catching, old-school ballcaps.

Not to be overlooked is the Warren Ringer Sweatshirt, modeled after the ” classic athletic sweatshirts of the mid-20th century,” the brand said. When you buy (and wear!) the Warren Ringer Sweatshirt, you’re investing in the best, in a sweatshirt that looks classic yet modern at the same time — note the V-neck stitching at the collar, plus the textured purl knit finish at the cuffs and hem.

The handsome Warren Ringer Sweatshirt, especially in classic Athletic Grey, is visually appealing without overdoing it, the kind of refined yet easygoing sweatshirt made for summer nights around the bonfire and cool fall mornings (I plan on wearing my Warren Ringer Sweatshirt to enjoy both, assuredly).

The 7-gauge cotton jersey knit fabrication is lightweight enough to layer comfortably over a denim or chambray shirt, and easy enough to wear on its own atop a cotton T-shirt (again, I’ve tried wearing the Warren Ringer Sweatshirt on both occasions with great success).

The Warren Ringer Sweatshirt feels as well-loved as your favorite pair of light wash jeans, expertly broken in right out of the box thanks to the cotton jersey fabric. There’s a durable and reassuring feel to the Warren Ringer Sweatshirt, and I know I’ll enjoy mine the rest of this season and well into fall and winter. Try out some USA-made menswear, and reap the rewards.

The Thursday Buy: This USA-Made Waxed Jacket from Devium Is as Tough and Stylish As It Gets

Best waxed jackets for men.

When blustery spring weather rolls into town, as I often say on this Brooklyn style blog, it certainly pays off to be prepared in advance. One crucial step in that process as you shore up you rotation of men’s style essentials?

That’s an easy one: Finding one of the best spring jackets to take on rain and wind. And if you’ve got the chance to do so while supporting a rugged, made-in-America company, that’s all the better — as with Devium, a newfound favorite brand here on the blog and one doing things the right way when it comes to the Devium Overdrive Waxed Canvas Jacket (among other staple pieces made right here in the States).

Toughness and durability are the name of the game with the entire Devium lineup, which includes new twists on the classics, like hard-wearing flannel shirts, thick-knit henleys, sturdy T-shirts and of course, tough-as-nails outerwear like the Devium Overdrive Waxed Canvas Jacket. It starts with a dependable Oxford weave waxed canvas in a 10oz. weight, the kind you can comfortably wear over everything from a henley to a classic pocket tee or a reliable chambray shirt.

The Devium Overdrive Waxed Canvas Jacket is also lined in flannel (not unlike some of the best waxed canvas jackets from Huckberry and elsewhere), a touch I appreciate on brisk spring days and nights. Helpfully, the Devium Overdrive Waxed Canvas Jacket retains plenty of classic touches that give it some spirit and style, including flannel-lined handwarmer pockets, an interior chest pocket for your phone and everyday carry, and a chest pocket finished off with an American-made zipper for added durability.

If it seems like Devium went the extra mile with the Devium Overdrive Waxed Canvas Jacket, it’s because, well, they certainly did. In either the rich, whiskey-hued Buck color or a dark charcoal shade of Seaweed, the hard-wearing Devium Overdrive Waxed Canvas Jacket should prove its worth, and then some.

The foldover collar can be turned up against the wind, while a fit that hits above the waist should prove ideal for styling in casually rugged fashion alongside a pair of the best blue jeans. And as with other stylish canvas jackets for spring, the Devium Overdrive Waxed Canvas Jacket will break in over time, molding to your body with each wear.

It can certainly prove hard to find reliable menswear made in America, but the newly iconic, strong-as-can-be Devium Overdrive Waxed Canvas Jacket gets the job done in fine fashion — and then some. Add some USA-made gear from Devium to your menswear assortment today, my friends.

The Friday Read: The Best American-Made Menswear From Devium, A New Huckberry Jacket & A Winter Weekend Getaway

Devium menswear review.

It can sometimes be tough to find a brand doing things the old way — the hard way, the difficult way, like making some of the best American-made menswear. It’s something I’ve had the time to think about this week as we come to another edition of the Friday Read here at your favorite Brooklyn style blog.

And as with past menswear reviews on this site — including last week’s introduction to Vero Watches — I’m all about brands that go the extra mile when it comes to quality and craftsmanship, like California-based Devium.

The decade-old brand puts its money where its mouth is, so to speak, in matters of rugged workwear, American-made production and a full array of timeless styles (think hard-working trucker jackets, flannel shirts, canvas workwear, durable chinos and much more).

The Devium story — which starts with the company’s founding on Flag Day, of all days, in 2015, is an impressive one, with plain old fashioned hard work and 100 percent American-made construction at its core.

I’m excited to learn more about the brand, and I’d wager you’ll feel the same way as you dive into its flagship lineup, which includes a range of sturdy flannels, tough-as-nails waxed jackets and more. How’s that for a new brand to jumpstart your weekend? T

he company makes the sort of dependable, good-looking, hard-wearing menswear that should prove useful in plentiful style situations, including my next jaunt — my first trip of 2025, in fact, and a suitably winter-focused one.

I’m off with my love Mary to chilly Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where a relaxing family weekend — think flannel shirts, whiskey, great food and even better times — awaits. To see how I’m outfitting myself and to find out what I’m sipping on, head over to my Instagram.

And before we head off into the weekend properly, let’s talk briefly about another must-buy style essential, the sort that should come in remarkably handy in terms of warmth, toughness, sturdy construction and long-lasting appeal.

Flint and Tinder waxed jacket.

What style selection could clear that very high bar and live up to the hype at the same time? The new Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Hooded Waxed Jacket, of course. Crafted from the same Martexin waxed sailcloth as the positively legendary, best-selling Flint and Tinder Waxed Trucker Jacket, the style adds a weather-ready waxed hood and keeps the same classic detailing, like durable hardware and a striped blanket lining.

Flint and Tinder Hooded Waxed Trucker Jacket review.

It’s a workwear jacket built to last in every sense of the word, and it comes in two must-have colors: Field Tan and a rich shade of Forest. Either is a fitting addition to a highly functional, carefully considered and casually rugged (and useful) winter weekend wardrobe.

Between Devium and Huckberry, if you ask me, I’d say you’ve got plenty of gear to consider in the days ahead — and plenty of gear to break in and make all your own. Happy shopping and cheers to American-made menswear, my friends.

Style Pick of the Week: American Giant Classic Full-Zip Hoodie

American Giant Classic Full Zip Hoodie

An incredibly durable, essential casual hoodie for perfect fall weekend style.

Folks, as often seems to be the case around this time of year, I’m urging you to reconsider your casual wardrobe in today’s Style Pick of the Week, and I’m specifically calling for you to pick up one of the best men’s hoodies on the planet. If this year’s pandemic didn’t already cause you to seriously step your casual fall weekend and at-home style, it’s high time you upgraded your hoodie with American Giant and the American Giant Classic Full Zip Hoodie. They’re just the brand to take your laidback fall looks from “good” to “great … and seriously cozy.” American Giant has been a favorite of your humble Brooklyn menswear author for some time, owing to the fact that they meticulously craft some of the best casual menswear on the market, from a classic trucker jacket (as featured on the blog this past winter), to one of the best crewneck sweaters on the market.

Everlane.com Low Cost. High Quality. Classic wardrobe essentials for less!

To top it all off, they’ve got nearly a decade of experience producing American-made menswear (and women’s wear!), and they’re also socially engaged through the American Giant Delta Project. What’s more, and perhaps most importantly, American Giant also makes protective face masks here in the States. Talk about using your powers for good. But back to one of the best men’s hoodies, ehh? It’s an essential you’ve simply got to have these days.

SHOP: The American Giant Classic Full Zip Hoodie

Best men's hoodies

It’s available in an array of colors, like this limited-edition Oxblood.

The great thing about finding one of the best men’s hooded sweatshirts is that, as you would expect, it’s improved in every way from your typical hoodie. In this case, that means the American Giant Classic Full Zip Hoodie is made from a custom-developed heavyweight fleece and combed ringspun cotton — this makes it durable to wear in blustery fall weather (either on its own or with a waxed trucker jacket), yet warm and soft to the touch on the inside.

Freemans Sporting Club

It’s a tough-as-nails hoodie that the brand calls “the best hoodie ever made,” and I’ve certainly got a mind to believe ’em. It’s made in North Carolina and features custom hardware like a metal zipper, eyelets and drawcord tips, meaning no stone goes unturned in the making of the best hooded sweatshirt for men — seriously. Even better? It brings dependable weekend style to your wardrobe, thanks to eight color options (including three limited-edition colorways, such as Oxblood). In that respect, it could be the best hooded sweatshirt to wear with jeans and your favorite T-shirt … or with chinos and a henley for a casual outing. When something as seemingly simple as a hooded sweatshirt gets the American Giant treatment, you can expect great things. Do yourself a favor and get your new favorite hoodie (or two, or three!) today.

Windy City Style: A Summer Weekend in Chicago

Checking out The Bean and Millenium Park on an outstanding summer day in the city. Wearing an American Giant tee and my Need Supply Co. denim jacket, with hair styling courtesy of AXE. Shot by Olivia Hayhoe on an iPhone 7 Plus.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Wasn’t I just in Chicago? This month even? Yes indeed, Style Guide readers, my travels took me to Chicago for Lollapalooza 2017 just a few short weeks ago and yet … I’m back! Or at least, I was back this past weekend for a family weekend in the Windy City.  My last trip to the city involved a healthy dose of excellent music — including a terrific live show by The Killers — and I was just as excited to be back this time. Incredibly, I’ve even got a fall trip back to Chicago planned, whereby I’ll be sure to pack plenty of fall menswear essentials. Yet, these past few days were about reconnecting with family, exploring the city and catching up with friends right before the end of summer … all in style, of course!

The rest of my family made the trek to take in Chicago’s version of the famed American musical “Hamilton” … while I gave up my seat to my young nephew (Hi, Charlie!), leaving me more time to get out and about in Chicago. That entailed a post-dinner trek to famed indie venue Metro Chicago to see a great indie pop show by Ernest Greene (known by his stage moniker Washed Out).  I’ve gotten quite practiced at loading up my stylish weekender bag with gear to take on the season, from versatile outerwear to a slim chambray shirt and classic sneakers, and this weekend proved no different. Just remember: Going from city to city still calls for on-point travel style. So, let’s get to it.

Men's travel style

Breezy essentials for summer travel, starting with my Grayers Montreaux Windbreaker and carrying through to stylish Frank and Oak leather sneakers and my reliable Huckberry Explorer’s Cap.

Heading straight to the airport in the morning on Friday called for versatile, easygoing style — just as with my last trip to Chicago. Starting with a solid base layer is always key (especially when dealing with airport A/C), so my Grayers Montreaux Windbreaker, a classically designed jacket you might recognize from my Style Pick of the Week series, was the way to go. With its light weight and easy-to-style design, the Montreaux Windbreaker teamed nicely with my equally laidback-yet-polished Mott and Bow denim shirt. Perhaps you recognize the new line of Mott and Bow denim shirts from this site’s Style Pick of the Week series, and I’d say any of the brand’s denim shirts would be a versatile bet the next time you need to throw on a crisp, casual top for travel.  The soft fabric and nicely tailored-but-mobile fit of this slim denim shirt made it an ideal airport layering move, while a new pair of Banana Republic Rapid Movement Chinos offered just the right blend of comfort and stretch.

The whole combo was topped off with my trusty-as-ever Huckberry Explorer’s Cap, a pleasingly vintage-inspired ballcap I love to throw on any time I need to keep the sun off my face.  On the footwear front, a pair of Idyllwild Pull-Up Leather Sneakers from favorite menswear retailer Frank and Oak helped me move around the city with sharp looks and wearbility in mind. And to stay on time, I threw on my trusty Timex x Red Wing Waterbury Chrono, a standout piece from the Timex Waterbury line that looks rugged and goes just about anywhere (particularly with a classic windbreaker and a stylish denim shirt). Want a winning formula for travel style? Pair mobile stretch chinos with leather sneakers and a comfortable shirt featuring textured fabric.

It’s a good thing I was prepped with versatile menswear, because Friday packed in a heck of a lot of exploration and great times around the Windy City. Our accomodations at TheWit Chicago were outstanding — right in the the heart of downtown Chicago, this modern hotel provided a sleek backdrop and stellar views from its roof bar (the ideal spot to knock back a few Bell’s beers — good to be back in the Midwest!). And Friday night’s dinner, featuring family-style pizza, cheese plates and plenty of bread and olive oil, was nothing less than excellent. The next time you get to Chicago, I’d recommend you stop by Quartino!

Mixing earthy tones and casual, versatile staples like an American Giant pima tee and Banana Republic’s Rapid Movement Chinos alongside the CLAE Bradley Mid.

And with Friday in the books, Saturday dawned with the promise of an exciting full day getting to know Chicago more. Seeing as Lollapalooza was packed wall-to-wall with music and I hadn’t visited since college, that left plenty to do — including lots of time spent strolling through MilleniuM Park. As per usual, I prepped with the best men’s gear that I could possibly muster, including a mix of high-low, casual style led by a crisp charcoal pair of my Banana Republic Rapid Movement Chinos. Seriously, if there’s a pair of chinos that combines better range of movement or a more crisp look — the tab closure waist helps with that — I’ve yet to find ’em.  My charcoal chinos matched up nicely with a well-made, breathable Amerian Giant Premium Crew Tee in Drab Olive — a nice contrast of earthy tones that worked well to go from Millenium Park to cool spots like Raised, an urban rooftop spot outfitted with industrial fixtures, premium cocktails and local craft beer.

Saturday’s full ensemble for exploring Millenium Park, highlighted by my CLAE Bradley Mid Sneakers, plus my trusty Need Supply Co. denim jacket and the TImex x Todd Snyder Military Watch.

Like other American-made menswear that I favor, I think you’ll find a simple, stylish T-shirt works with anything on vacation.  The key to a versatile look came from my  Need Supply Co. Denim Jacket in 96, another piece that proved a favorite at Lollapalooza 2017   — it worked just as well this time around, especially as a shot of color to contrast my rich Cocoa Leather Bradley Mid Sneakers from CLAE. This style is comfortable and durable, and for this late August trip, that made them a prime footwear pick. That comfort definitely helped me get around in style — my MVMT Watches Runaway Aviators also helped shield my eyes from the hot Chicago sun, and we took the chance to keep the afternoon rolling. The Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, completely refurbished and recently reopened, harkens back to the city’s glamour and refinement of years gone by. It comes complete with a rotating pop-up bar on the ground floor, plus a game room and  a neat rooftop bar with great lakefront views.

A stylish weekender bag, American Giant shorts and a breezy chambray shirt made for easy travel style.

But as always seems to be the case, the weekend drew to a close too quickly. I had just enough time for a delicious Sunday brunch at the uniquely ’70s-inspied HopCat Chicago lounge before departing the Windy City yet again — and I dressed in casual, breezy travel style to take on the day. For a bit of tailored style mixed with supreme comfort, my all-new American Giant Weekend Shorts — made from hefty rugby jersey cotton — were perfect for a flight back to NYC. And to mix in some high-low style, I threw on my trusty United By Blue Wenlock Chambray Shirt. What with breathable fabric and a neat pattern, the Wenlock Chambray Shirt added some contrast to my laidback CLAE Hayward Sneakers, at once retro and yet crisply modern. And on the accessories front, a handy travel kit and men’s grooming essentials from Baxter of California paired up perfectly together, while my rugged-yet-accessible Timex Waterbury Chrono Diver helped me stay on time in casual style. In all, the laidback, breezy style ensemble helped me make it back to NYC in good time and in good style.

I hope you spent your weekend in the same way I did — with great friends and family, enjoying great times. You can  be sure I’m already looking forward to my next trip — to Chicago or elsewhere. To keep up with my travels and my style tips, check out my Instagram. And tomorrow, you can join us for another #OOTD. Until then, stay stylish!

Style Pick of the Week: Danner x New Balance miUSA 585 Sneakers

Contemplating the weekend in NYC’s Bryant Park — during a Friday lunch break. miUSA 585 Sneakers from the Danner x New Balance collab. Cole Bomber Jacket by Beckett Simonon. Cove Shirt by Life/After/Denim. Slim black selvedge by Todd Shelton. Waterbury Chrono by Timex x Red Wing Heritage. Colorblocked socks by Richer Poorer. Glasses by Frameri.

Perhaps it’s been the slightly breezy, fall-esque weather in Brooklyn, but durable, premium footwear is certainly something that’s been on the mind of your Style Guide publisher, editor and writer as of late. Although we just covered the excellent SeaVees Huckberry Chukka in last week’s Style Pick of the Week post, we’re back at it here with a pair of footwear that’s every bit as perfect for fall style — and quite a bit pricier, if we’re being honest.  Yes indeed, the Danner x New Balance miUSA 585 is quite the sneaker, blending the ingenuity and technology of New Balance with the quality and craftsmanship of Danner. Oh, and it’s made in America at New Balance’s Maine factory. Sounds too good to be true, ehh? Not so fast, my friend. Having tested out these sneakers, I can tell you that they’re the real deal — and then some. The Danner x New Balance miUSA 585 takes advantage of the best of the best that these two Portland-based companies have to offer (that would be New Balance’s roots in Maine, and Danner’s home base in Oregon). It’s part of the American Pioneer Project, and that partnership also features the Danner x New Balance Light, an outdoor boot that merges hybrid style and performance. The 585 is a bit of a different look from your classic boot or sneaker, though. The 585 takes New Balance’s traditional outdoor trail silhouette, and merges it with the sort of durable touches found on Danner boots, like rich Horween leather. Boot laces give these sneakers a sporty-yet-versatile look, and ballistic nylon found on the upper also gives it a ton of durability, as does So is it a sneaker? A boot? How do you wear it? All crucial questions given the price tag ($359.99 ain’t exactly cheap, fellas).

The answer to the first of those two questions would be that, yes — it’s a sneaker. But it can wear like a boot. The higher heel prevents you from rolling your ankle, critical whether you’re dashing to the subway or the plane — or stepping out of your favorite pub (right? Right??). It’s fit for casual Friday pairings aplenty, as you can see above — try it with a beautiful Beckett Simonon suede bomber jacket, a patterned shirt (the one at the top is from Life/After/Denim), and slim black Todd Shelton selvedge. Now, you’ll have to wait for that bomber jacket, but the good news is that you can pick up these sneakers, and wear them, right away. The rich Horween leather gives the Danner x New Balance miUSA 585 a dressier feel than most kicks — given the price tag, you’re going to want to get as much wear out of them as you can. Just be sure to keep them nice and cleaned up (soap and water on a cloth is a quick way to keep the heel and sole scuff-free). The Horween leather should develop a nice patina over time, too. And lest we forget, the combination between sporty and casual style means you can team them up with a lightweight navy blazer and dark blue denim at the office, and they’re absolutely perfect to wear with a slim cardigan and a classic Taylor Stitch chambray shirt for a sharp weekend coffee run. The difficult thing is going to be resisting the urge to wear them into winter — these are sneakers that should be stored for a  bit, then broken back out in the spring. In the meantime, the Danner x New Balance miUSA 585 will look plenty handsome on your shelf.

While you mull that sneaker purchase, follow along with The Style Guide on Facebook.

Style Pick of the Week: Buck Mason Short-Sleeve Chambray Shirt

So you’ve got your slim chinos and your classic white sneakers, but you don’t quite have a shirt to wear with ’em — or do you? The Buck Mason Short-Sleeve Chambray Shirt, my friends, is that shirt — and if that’s not the one, I’d suggest the Buck Mason Oxford. But as to the Short-Sleeve Chambray Shirt: It fits in quite well with the brand’s line of durable, essential basics, which run the course from crisp blue denim to perfectly washed slub tees. And it fits in very well with the sort of menswear you should be looking to rock to finish out summer. We’re talking pieces that can handle a beach walk or a day by the pool, and then drinks out on the town. And we’re talking just as much about pieces that can be fun to wear. If you’re on the hunt for a unique alternative to a classic summer polo or a slim pocket T-shirt, the short-sleeve chambray shirt is the way to go — as  a matter of fact, you can rock the style at least five different ways (wink, wink). The light wash is casual, the workwear-inspired front pockets are a nice visual touch, and the styling potential is certainly tough to beat. Yes indeed, the Buck Mason Short-Sleeve Chambray Shirt can be worn with everything from a pair of stylish swim trunks and slip-on sneakers on Saturday to linen trousers on a casual Friday — no jacket required. And with Buck Mason, you’re getting every bit you pay for — and then some.

Subtle details like front-button chest pockets switch things up from the standard navy polo.

Subtle details like front-button chest pockets and fish eye buttons switch things up from the standard navy polo.

The brand’s story began with a conscious decision to return to American manufacturing, and that commitment to quality and effortless style shines through here. While “heritage style” can sometimes have negative connotations (as seemed to be the case after the trend blew up in the mid-2000s), there’s nothing overly costume-y or dated about a very well-fitting, very well-made short-sleeve chambray shirt. Critically, this shirt is made with a lightweight indigo-dyed chambray — that means it’s breathable and moves easier than heavier shirts cut for fall or winter. Another big benefit? It’s made in America, so it’s right in your wheelhouse if you like to know where your #menswear comes from. And although this particular Buck Mason chambray shirt has short sleeves, know that you can still team it up with, say, a lightweight cotton sweater after a day on the water — it’s even better for layering in that regard. But the benefits don’t stop there — it’s got a bit of an edge to it, to the point where it wouldn’t look out of place worn with an iconic jean like the Levi’s 505C at a rock concert. The tricky part is going to be keeping this shirt in your closet once fall and winter really hit — so if you’re blessed enough to live near Buck Mason’s Los Angeles home base, do us all a favor and continue to rock it year-round.
