Style Pick of the Week: Jack Mason Field Chronograph Watch

A striking timepeice with tough construction and standout looks.

Do you ever see a timepiece that you feel like you need on your wrist … immediately? Maybe one that seems like the perfect casual watch, a true fall style essential even? My friends, meet the Jack Mason Field Chronograph Watch, a bona fide timepiece that exemplifies rugged-yet-refined style. If you read The Style Guide regularly, you might recognize Jack Mason — let’s welcome them back into the fold today. I’m quite the fan of watches of all types — namely, of the more laidback variety — and if you follow me on Instagram, you might be acquainted with my collection. When it comes to taking stock of your style, it’s wise to leave no stone unturned, and such is the case when it comes to a stylish casual watch. Which leads us to *pulls aside curtain* …. the Field Chronograph Watch on display today.  The Texas-based brand draws on inspirations ranging from military timepieces to watches with the spirit (and design) of aviation built right in, and the resulting stylish watches are a sight to behold. Again, I give you the Field Chronograph. First of all, there’s the standout design and rich combination of cool olive and black colorways. The pairing is ideal for wearing with your favorite fall jacket or a tough denim trucker jacket (plus some classic grey denim). And the simple look of the Field Chronograph Watch also makes it more than wearable with cleaned-up business casual essentials for cold weather (think a cotton navy blazer, a rugged grey crewneck sweater and a white Oxford). Yet, the Jack Mason Field Chronograph Watch also has the superb construction & durability you need in a dependable everyday watch.

Jack Mason

Subtle branding + excellent quality makes for one heck of a nice watch.

The Field Chronograph Watch features an agreeable 42mm case diameter — large enough to stand up to outdoor excursions, refined enough so as not to seem too large on most wrists. Now, as I’ve said in the past, I’m not a watch snob by any means … so the Japanese quartz movement does just fine in my book. Topped off with mineral crystal, this watch is a durable, affordable timepiece for fall and winter weather — the rugged NATO strap in a crisp olive color helps see to that.  It’ll more than stand up to tough weather and long days. And the Jack Mason Field Chronograph Watch really does look to be built for the field. That is to say, you might want to leave it at home when going hunting or fishing, but you can definitely give it a try on a short hike through your local park. It might look best when paired up with a vintage-inspired cardigan and a classic chambray shirt, though. Where can that #menswear ensemble take you? Just about anywhere you please this fall, from a dressed-up evening on the town to a more casual day at the office when teamed with stylish leather sneakers. Yessir, the Jack Mason Field Chronograph Watch is the timepiece you didn’t know you needed — until now.  Add it to any list of the best casual watches for men … including your own. And that’s the last word!

Is the Field Chronograph Watch the next timepiece to make its way into your collection? Let me know on Twitter.

Thanks for reading, as always!

The Friday Read: Stylish Men’s Henleys, Seasonal Layering and the Value of New Outdoor Gear

Hey there, folks — it’s Friday! And it’s time to wrap up the work week here and jet off into the weekend (preferably dressed in casual weekend style). The start of November means a few things, at least for me personally … namely, it’s a month that’s VERY closely associated with my favorite song by my favorite band (that’d be “Mr. November” by The National). Does that stellar song top my list of things to look forward to this month? Well, of course not … but it’s a fun one nonetheless. We’ve also got Thanksgiving on the horizon, along with Black Friday shopping aplenty; you can expect a full rundown of stylish men’s gear to buy for that occasion here in the next few weeks. For now though, I’m happy to be at home in Brooklyn this weekend. My fall travels have taken me out to Portland and south to Nashville, along with a quick Northeast jaunt to Boston to see, as luck would have it … The National! But my focus is solely on the homefront this weekend. I’m planning on swinging by my favorite menswear and coffee shop, Upstate Stock, to check out plenty of finely crafted #menswear, and I’m also hoping to make my way to a local sports bar to cheer on my beloved Michigan State Spartans as the battle the Penn State Nittany Lions in a college football showdown. What’s on your weekend agenda? Before you dive in, check out the below men’s style news for your reading pleasure. Cheers!

  • Want a simply designed, yet simply unbeatable, windbreaker? The GoRuck Simple Windbreaker (would ya look at that!) is the one to buy now! Read more via my latest GearMoose post, and check out my own guide on how to wear a bomber jacket for more inspo.
  • Make no mistake, I’m not necessarily a hiking enthusiast, per se — but I know great outdoor gear (and rugged style essentials) when I see it on the market. Interestingly enough, Gear Patrol makes the case that you shouldn’t buy new outdoor gear … how about that? What’s your take on that?

  • Now, I sure do love me a stylish men’s henley — and if you happened to catch my feature for The Manual on the best men’s henleys, you know that all too well! Get yourself one before it’s too late, my friends.

Alright, my friends … that’s all the #menswear I’ve got for ya today!

Enjoy the weekend, and check back for tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week!

See Now, Buy Now: The Grayers Newport Chinos Are Your New Everyday Pants

A finely crafted pair of chinos available for a solid price from Grayers.

There’s never a wrong time or place to wear a pair of classic men’s chinos, right? Particularly when that pair of chinos just happens to be the Grayers Newport Chinos, yes? Yes, indeed. Whether in the middle of fall, early winter, late spring or late summer, stylish men’s chinos just work when it comes to men’s style essentials  — and that’s good enough for another entry in our ongoing See Now, Buy Now series as we move into November. With their roots in post-war functionality — G.I.’s wore chinos en masse after World War II upon returning home to the States — the classic chino features durable cotton fabric and a neutral tan (khaki) color, kind of like the Grayers Newport Chinos you see here. So, there’s a  bit of #menswear history to go with the stellar, easily wearable style you get from Grayers. The brand does a nice job taking classic staples and making them cool and casual; in this case, that means the Grayers Newport Chinos fit nicely and move well, thanks to the cotton-elastane blend. And helpfully, that should make the Newport Chinos the ideal pair of pants to wear for your next fall road trip — or just your next day at the office.  Simply sharpen up your look with stylish men’s dress shoes and an American-made Oxford, my friends.

With a simple-yet-crisp design and a slim fit (plus plenty of sizes available as of post time), the Grayers Newport Chinos are a reliably stylish addition to many a fall (and winter!) style ensemble. Wear them to your next tailgate with one of fall’s best jackets — just add stylish leather sneakers — or take them for a spin with a striped henley, a rugged denim trucker jacket and the Wolverine 1000 Mile Boots.  Keep them on hand to wear with a rugged shawl-collar cardigan and a classic indigo shirt jacket, too. The hearty construction and durability of the Grayers Newport Chinos lends this pair to repeated wear through winter, too. Your favorite topcoat and a classic cold-weather blazer are the perfect foil to an easily wearable pair of stylish men’s chinos — at least, your Style Guide author thinks so. Let me know in the comments — how many pairs of stylish men’s chinos do you own? Will you be doubling down with the Grayers Newport Chinos this season?

Online Shopping Picks: Layer Up for Fall and Winter with the Best Men’s Cardigans

OK, so let’s talk fall and winter layering essentials — like the best men’s cardigans, ya dig? It’s a style essential that we return to time and again here on The Style Guide, with roots in vintage style now turned modern and, well, cool. The right cardigan features a fit that’s slim but not too tight, making it easy to layer with everything from a slim striped henley to an American-made Oxford shirt. Beloved by everyone from Steve McQueen to Daniel Craig, a classic cardigan is something every man needs in his wardrobe. And if you’re wary of buying one for fear that it’s too much of an “old man” style staple, put those thoughts aside — plenty of your favorite brand’s are included on this list of the best men’s cardigans, I guarantee it. From a sport-inspired cardigan like the Life/After/Denim Varsity Cardigan — as seen in this site’s See Now, Buy Now series — to a more easygoing number like the pleasingly rugged, versatile Grayers Avalon Shawl Cardigan — you’re absolutely guaranteed to find a piece that you like. Rock it on its own with a lightweight scarf or throw on a flannel-lined waxed trucker — that’s just the tip of the iceberg, though. Happy shopping, and be sure to check out my Instagram for plenty of real-life style moves.

#1. Life/After/Denim Varsity Cardigan in Heather Grey — $138

Life/After/Denim

A striped sleeve adds a pleasingly sport touch to this classic cardigan.

Told you this stylish retro cardigan from Life/After/Denim would be on the list, didn’t I? It’s understated in its design, with neat, sporty stripe detailing, a modern fit and a versatile color. Pair the Varsity Cardigan with your favorite pair of dark blue denim and classic leather chukka boots for style that can really go anywhere or throw it on over one of the best men’s T-shirts when you feel like stepping out in accessible-yet-casual style. The Life/After/Denim Varsity Cardigan is a bit pricey, but worth it.

#2. Levi’s Cardigan in Tall Grass — $395

An unexpectedly stylish, well-made and investment-level cardigan.

Whoa now, nearly $400 for a cardigan? Well, folks … let me tell you why. Levi’s does far more than make classic men’s denim like the Levi’s 505C Jeans — they also make rugged, great-looking men’s apparel and accessories. The Levi’s Cardigan is among those, made with 100 percent shetland wool in a rich color that wouldn’t look out of place with navy corduroys and classic suede chukka boots. Again, the Levi’s Cardigan is an unexpected investment piece.

#3. Grayers Avalon Shawl Cardigan — $135

A cozy, comfortable-yet-versatile cardigan from Grayers.

Grayers simply doesn’t mess around when it comes to cool, casual menswear with a bit of a classic tilt. The Avalon Shawl Cardigan is one such piece that’s as easy to wear as your favorite hooded sweater — over a garment-washed pocket tee and faded blue denim, for instance. And if you feel like going slightly sharper with this classic cardigan? Slim tan chinos, stylish men’s dress shoes and a classic Oxford shirt ought to do the trick. Get you a cardigan that can do both — like the Grayers Avalon Shawl Cardigan.

#4. Life/After Denim Collegiate Cardigan in Blue Blood — $138

A simple, understated, throwback-inspired cardigan made for casual, crisp fall weekends.

Another uniquely stylish cardigan from Life/After/Denim? Why yes, yes indeed. The Collegiate Cardigan again harnesses that neat blend of throwback style and modern cool — the navy color would look excellent with everything from black denim to tan herringbone trousers.  And when it comes time to dress in casual weekend style? You can certainly throw the Life/After/Denim Collegiate Cardigan on with slim sweatpants and corduroy sneakers (among other men’s style essentials, of course).

#5.  Original Penguin Shawl Collar Donegal Cardigan — $125

A no-frills, no-fuss cardigan that’s perfect for everyday wear.

Original Penguin gets it right when it comes to a classic, crisp cardigan that certainly leans a bit dressier — yet no less versatile — compared to the rest of the picks on this list. The crisp Charcoal Heather color would look right at home with burgundy corduroys and classic suede boots, and it’s also going to pair up nicely with a striped henley and your favorite pair of broken-in blue denim. Can you dig it? I sure can.

We’re keeping it a bit shorter than usual today when it comes to this list of men’s style essentials — which of the above cardigans was your favorite. My money’s on the Life/After/Denim Varsity Cardigan for its combination of casual weekend wearability, sport-inspired style and serious warmth. And the Original Penguin Shawl Collar Cardigan is similarly warm and stylish — layer it with a classic henley and find out for yourself. Let’s not forget the seriously premium Levi’s Cardigan in a cool deep green color; it’s the perfect pairing when teamed with slim faded denim, rugged tan leather boots and a crisp white Oxford shirt. Before I forget, the Life/After/Denim Collegiate Cardigan shouldn’t be slept on, either — whether you wear it with slim sweatpants and classic fall sneakers or with brown herringbone trousers and your new favorite chambray shirt, the Collegiate Cardigan could become a weekly go-to. And if it’s casual, versatile and laidback style you want, pick up the Grayers Avalon Shawl Cardigan — again, it’s every bit as comfortable as your favorite hoodie. Alright, all set? Let’s get shopping!

#OOTD: How to Style Your New Favorite Vest for Fall

My friends, don’t sleep on the humble vest. A style move that was at once very on-trend (looking at you, Back to the Future), and then too preppy … is now back in a way that’s just right for the modern man (that’s you!). Maybe you never stopped wearing a stylish vest like the Bridge & Burn Ritter Vest as pictured below. If so, today’s new #OOTD is going to be right up your alley. And if you hadn’t yet considered making a vest part of your fall men’s style essentials? I’d wager that the below suggestion is (hopefully) going to get your gears turning. We’re really easing into it, after all. The building blocks of this outfit are stellar, stylish pieces that any guy should be wearing for fall, from a slim chambray shirt to a rugged henley to classic men’s chinos. And the topper? A classic vest, of course. Go for a piece that’s less technical and less, well, puffy — something that fits slim and sharp is the way to go. Luckily, the Bridge & Burn Ritter Vest fits the bill quite well.  With casual weekend style in mind, you’re going to like these picks … I hope. So, let’s get to the #OOTD — any questions or comments? Head over to The Style Guide Facebook page.

Taking a slimmed-down vest and pairing it with classic men’s style staples.

The Vest: Bridge & Burn Ritter Vest, $198 — Upgrading your vest starts with the material and fit. The warm, slim-fitting Bridge & Burn Ritter Vest features wool-blend fabric and a neutral, wearable color.
The Chambray Shirt: CIVIC The Jack Shirt in Sky Blue Chambray, $128 — A classic chambray shirt is no more fitting than in fall, and CIVIC (an offshoot of Taylor Stitch) makes the Jack Shirt with premium merino fabric and a tailored fit.

The Henley: Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Henley, $62 — What’s more classic for fall than layering a tough henley with a chambray shirt and  your new favorite vest? Not much, folks. Perfectly casual style, comin’ right up.

The Chinos: CIVIC The Frank Chino, $145 — The key to making the vest stylish and modern? Slim chinos from CIVIC — made with sustainability and mobility in mind, of course.

The Boots: Wolverine Evans Boot, $400 —  Fall and winter are the perfect seasons for a tough pair of Wolverine boots — the Evans Boot adds some rugged edge to this classic, straightforward ensemble. Oh, and don’t forget stylish patterned socks from Anonymousism.

The Belt: Levi’s Stinson Belt, $29 — Yet again, Levi’s delivers on a stylish belt to complement the slim chinos in this ensemble. Of course, the Stinson Belt also works with whatever classic Levi’s denim you already own, too.

The Watch: Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT, $498 — Worried about mixing a black NATO strap watch with a brown belt & boots? Fear not, my friend. The durable Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT fits right in with the rest of this rugged, casual outfit.

The Beanie: Levi’s Ribbed Beanie, $18 — Hey, it’s chilly out there. A classic beanie in an eye-catching color from a classic brand — good lookin’ out, Levi’s — will keep you warm and stylish.

Have you had the chance to re-think what you thought you knew about the classic men’s vest? Certainly, the Bridge & Burn Ritter Vest features the type of upgraded fabric & fit that you need when you start shopping around for this necessary style upgrade. It also loses its preppy connotations when you streamline it with men’s fall style essentials, from a  classic chambray shirt to a rugged men’s henley from a beloved brand like Flint and Tinder. And the stylish vest gets even easier to wear in casual style situations when you rock it with slim tan chinos and your favorite pair of fall boots (the Wolverine Evans Boot, of course). Accessories from Levi’s — like a durable leather belt and a stylish beanie cap — are destined to become cold-weather favorites, too. Let’s not forget about a tough casual watch; in this instance, the Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT mixes striking design with a rugged aesthetic. If that sounds like style you can appreciate, I’d make sure you pick up the Bridge & Burn Ritter Vest before it’s too late. From there, you can wear this ensemble on upstate trips, day hikes, a bar crawl, to the farmer’s market, to grab a weekend coffee … you get the gist, right?

How would you style the Bridge & Burn Ritter Vest? Let me know if you plan to snag it for the season!

Style Suggestion: What to Wear to Your Next Bar Crawl

It’s time to rethink what you thought you knew about how to wear a leather jacket. More specifically, it’s time to get acquainted — or re-acquainted — with the stunning, stylish Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket. We’ve talked about the Moto Jacket as recently as this past spring, and it’s back again. Plus, it’s the perfect rugged-yet-edgy jacket to wear to your next bar crawl. Available for pre-funding via Taylor Stitch for a limited time only, it might just be the best leather jacket on the market today, what with an excellent fit, quality construction and old-school styling details. And all of those come together in one stylish package, resulting in a leather jacket that you can — and should — wear on a winter bar crawl (or really, whenever you feel like it). The keys here are much the same as with other men’s style essentials. We’re taking pieces that can quickly turn sloppy, and turning everything into an edgy, crisp and cool #menswear ensemble that’s going to outshine your drinking buddies (but only a bit!). It’s all about keeping it casual and versatile, and the Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket is the best place to start in that regard. Sound like a plan? Good stuff.

The Leather Jacket: Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket in Black Steerhide — $875

It doesn’t get better than this stylish, essential leather jacket from Taylor Stitch.

Ahh yes, the holy grail — the classic leather jacket we’ve been talking about. Truly, the Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket, especially in an edgy black steerhide leather, is a thing of beauty. Certainly, it’s gotta be one of the best leather jackets for men, yes? Featuring durable hardware and understated-yet-stylish details like zig-zag collar stitching, this is the perfect jacket to throw on to head to your local watering hole. It looks great, it’s understated (but striking), and it’s easy to layer at the same. The Moto Jacket is, again, a home run.

The Shirt: Taylor Stitch Oxnard Shirt in Sun-Bleached Chambray — $98 (On-Sale)

A classic, rugged chambray shirt that’ll carry you through Saturday night.

Rather than resorting to an old college tee, layer up with a uniquely stylish chambray shirt — yet another menswear essential that Taylor Stitch does very well. The Oxnard Shirt in particular has a lot going for it, from the use of Japanese selvage chambray to the pleasantly lived-in wash. Think of it as a significant style upgrade that’ll provide warmth from the chill, while adding a bit of casual contrast to the edgy Moto Jacket.

The Henley: Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Henley in Natural — $62

A durable, tough henley for a tough ensemble.

What’s better, or cooler, to wear to a bar crawl than a classic, rugged men’s henley? There’s really not much that’s going to look better when layered up with a stylish chambray shirt than a classic henley — especially the Flint and Tinder number seen here. And because we’re going for durability, warmth and serious style, the Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Henley in Natural is going to be the way to go. It’s a nice value for the price, too. Edgy, classic and cool.

The Denim: Taylor Stitch Slim Jean in Cone Mills Standard — $98

A classic pair of blue denim for a classic night out — right?

Slim, well-made and classic blue denim is a men’s style staple that guys have been wearing to the bar — and heck, everywhere — for years upon years. So, when it comes time to dress for your next bar crawl, there’s no need to reinvent the well. The Taylor Stitch Slim Jeans are perhaps some of the best men’s denim out there, made with quality Cone Mills denim and featuring the type of design that only gets better with time.

The Boots: Hudson Shoes Aldford Suede Boots in Olive — $220

Sleek, edgy boots to complete this look.

A fall or winter bar crawl calls for footwear that’s more rugged and durable than your favorite pair of summer sneakers. That’s where the Hudson Shoes Aldford Suede Boots come into play. They’re a seriously stylish, well-made pair of durable men’s boots, and they feature a bit of sleek style. The Aldford Suede Boots are absolutely more hard-wearing than canvas sneakers, making ’em perfect for a cold-weather bar crawl. And you’re not dropping a grand on the Aldford Boots — they’ll probably look even better with a few battle scars.

The Watch: Techne Merlin Watch — $168

A simple, understated and stylish watch.

When you’re wearing style staples like a badass leather jacket and a stylish chambray shirt, your watch doesn’t need to be an insanely ostentatious, eye-catching timepiece. In fact, the perfect casual men’s watch to buy (and wear) for your next bar crawl might be a crisp, classic and tough watch like the Techne Merlin Watch. The grey NATO strap on the Merlin Watch is durable and neutral, and the price allows you to beat this watch up without fear of it dying on you. Ya dig?

The Belt: Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt in Black — $80

Don’t forget your everyday belt from Sturdy Brothers.

We always talk about the importance of stylish everyday accessories, right? And the Everyday Belt is, well, one of those stylish everyday accessories. Well-crafted, durable and built to age the more you wear it, the Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt is a surprisingly rugged piece that’s just better than the belt you might be wearing now.  And you needn’t worry about it breaking or giving way during your hours-long bar crawl — that’s all you can ask for.

The Socks: Anonymousism Boucle Mix Socks in Olive — $18

Comfortable socks that also happen to be stylish? For sure.

Hours spent on your feet at fall and winter bar crawls call for stylish men’s socks that can take a beating while keeping your feet comfortable. That’s absolutely where Anonymousim helps you out — the brand’s Boucle Mix Socks combine an understated, seasonally appropriate color with quality fabric and a great fit. For $18, they’re an investment that’ll pay off time and again, bar after bar.

The Everyday Carry Essential: Taylor Stitch Keyhook in Raw Brass — $32

The best way to ensure you hang on to your keys — no driving, though!

Seeing as you’ll be out and about for quite a few hours, you best prepare accordingly when it comes to everyday carry essentials, right? And for keeping your keys handy, something that’s TRULY critical when knocking back your favorite beer, the durable Taylor Stitch Keyhook is the piece you’ll be glad you bought. One thing though — don’t drink and drive. Heck, don’t drink and bike. Either way, the Taylor Stitch Keyhook is going to help you hang onto your house keys (and avoid that late-night locksmith call).

The Slim Wallet: Red Wing Heritage Card Holder Wallet — $74.99

A well-crafted card holder to keep your, well, cards handy during a bar crawl.

For hours out on the town, you need a durable, slim and understated wallet that slides easily in and out of your jacket or jeans pocket with no hassle — right? The Red Wing Heritage Card Holder features authentic Red Wing shoe leather, a slim profile and the space to carry your essential cards (20 on each side, to be exact). That’s a ton of bang for your buck. And considering that a slim leather wallet is just as much of an everyday carry essential as a durable keyhook, I’d recommend you pick this one up before you start knocking ’em back.

The Beanie: Upstate Stock Melange Rag Wool Beanie — $32

Last but not least, don’t step out without properly protecting yourself from the chill. And no, a “beer jacket” won’t cut it this time. No sir, the understated — yet ultra-warm — Upstate Stock Melange Rag Wool Beanie is the one accessory you certainly need this fall and winter. Made in New York with a wool-nylon blend for functionality and comfort, the Melange Rag Wool Beanie is a warm way to top off this rugged style ensemble. Cheers!

OK, well that’s all we’ve got today in terms of this style suggestion. The Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket is a remarkably durable and well-crafted jacket that’s going to stand out in the best way possible in a sea of fellas at the bar.  When teamed up with a stylish chambray shirt and other cold-weather style essentials — the Flint and Tinder Heavyweight Henley in Natural among them — your top half is set when it comes to edgy (and warm!) style. And accessories like the Hudson Shoes Aldford Suede Boots and the Techne Merlin Watch are going to add durability and understated, classic style that’s fit for a night out. When you accessorize with pieces like the Upstate Stock Melange Rag Wool Beanie and heck, even socks like the Boucle Mix Socks, you’re going to stay warm and toasty no matter how many bars you hit. Oh, and before you hit the bars, stow your cards in the durable Red Wing Heritage Card Holder and keep your keys safe with the Taylor Stitch Keyhook. The only thing that’s left to do now? Plot your bar crawl, save up some extra coins, and prepare to head out. Put one on my tab, right? Right.

A sleek, functional jacket that offers up a modern spin on military inspiration.

Every week here at The Style Guide — heck, every day — it can be pretty tough to filter through so many of the best men’s style essentials to land on one, just one … Style Pick of the Week. And it was a tall order this week especially, but with the Relwen Quilted Patrol Jacket, I think we’ve hit the mark as far as your new favorite jacket is concerned.

If you’re still searching for a durable, transitional and stylish fall jacket, the handsome Relwen Quilted Patrol Jacket is the one to buy — at least, that’s what I think.  Relwen specializes in sleek, functional and military-inspired menswear with a modern edge, but don’t let that scare you. If you’re just dipping your toes into more edgy and rugged outerwear, rest assured that the Relwen brand is very, very wearable for your daily commute and late fall adventures. In fact, the Quilted Patrol Jacket seen at the top of the page is positively packed with functionality and hard-wearing style. The quilted exterior is water-resistant, while the box-quilted nylon lining provides excellent warmth and a neat contrast in terms of color. It’s exclusive to Huckberry, so you know that A) The quality is excellent and B) It’ll likely fly off the site’s (digital) shelves quite fast. The Relwen Quilted Patrol Jacket also features a cool, easily wearable charcoal, also exclusive to Huckberry. So, we know this jacket is limited-edition and packed with excellent features. Let’s make it work with your wardrobe, shall we?

The truly excellent thing about a rugged fall jacket with classic military roots is that it can be paired up with plenty of other essentials in your closet already. Take a slim striped henley and your favorite pair of black jeans, then add some stylish leather boots — bingo, perfect weekend ensemble at the ready.  Perhaps you can see this jacket working for you on a rainy commute or a road trip, which is all well and good: The Relwen Quilted Patrol Jacket features that durable cotton-nylon exterior and a no-frills charcoal color.

That straightforward design means it’ll keep you dry in inclement weather while pairing up with everything from a slim chambray shirt and grey chinos to a classic Oxford shirt and navy corduroys. Either of those combos would work well for grinding out your next 9-to-5 session, to say the least. And if it’s weekend adventure you seek, the Relwen Quilted Patrol Jacket checks all the boxes, too. Style it over a rugged overshirt and add stylish hiking boots to go off-road — or stroll down the street to your favorite brewery. I make no bones about it — wherever you want to go, the Relwen Quilted Patrol Jacket can take you there this fall and winter. And that’s more than good enough to call the Quilted Patrol Jacket today’s Style Pick of the Week.

With that, we’re off for the weekend!

The Friday Read: The worn&wound Watch Fair, The Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket and Fall Fitness

The month of October seriously has flown by — can you believe it? We’ve talked a bunch about fall style essentials, from the rugged men’s gear to buy now to the best bomber jacket for fall to sporty, stylish sneakers for weekend adventures. Hopefully, it’s been helpful? You can — and should! — let me know your thoughts via The Style Guide Facebook page. In the midst of all this #menswear coverage, I’ve also been thankful to get out and about quite a bit this month, from a Northeast trip to Boston to see my favorite band (The National!), to explorations around some neat Brooklyn spots thanks to my Wildsam Field Guide. Among those stops, I can’t recommend craft beer haven The Well enough, and the super cool, eclectcic Silent Barn is a great DIY music and art gallery at which I spent an enjoyable evening recently. $8 for three bands? Not bad at all, my friends. Of course, I also had the chance to head back to Chicago this past weekend for a visit with my great friend and former State News journo Jesse O’Brien.

Now, if you follow me on Instagram, perhaps you knew all about my latest trip (wink, wink). On top of a summer weekend in Chicago and a trip to Lollapalooza 2017, it’s been great to explore such a cool city, complete with craft beer and #menswear galore. Are you heading on any fall trips soon? Be sure to dress in casual weekend style — for now, we’ll say goodbye as we head into a Brooklyn weekend. I’ve got another excellent Brooklyn Steel show on tap, this time featuring breezy Brooklyn indie rockers Beach Fossils! Follow along on Instagram for all the action, and thanks for reading!

I’m clocking out for a relaxing NYC weekend now, and I hope you get to do the same soon.

Cheers!

See Now, Buy Now: Step Up Your Boot Game with Beckett Simonon’s Dowler Cap Toe Boots

Beckett Simonon

Sleek, sharp and well-made leather boots from Beckett Simonon.

Folks, the latest entry in our See Now, Buy Now series has me seriously excited for cold weather, the perfect time to break out some of the best boots for men. We’re talking, of course, about the stellar, stylish and refined-yet-rugged Beckett Simonon Dowler Cap Toe Boot as seen at the top of the page. You should surely know Beckett Simonon  from an earlier entry in our See Now, Buy Now series — the brand specializes in premium, stylish men’s footwear, from sharp wingtips to the rugged cap toe boots on display today. The Dowler Cap Toe Boots really do have a lot going for ’em, from the Blake construction that adds durability to the beautiful leather quality. They’re also carefully handmade — part of the reason you’ll have to pre-order the Dowler Cap Toe Boots now, then wait until January 2018 until they ship. That wait, though? It’s definitely worth it.

You certainly get a lot of variety for the price — the Dowler Cap Toe Boots also come in Black Calfskin Leather and Tan Calfskin Leather. I’m partial to the Brown Calfskin Leather option shown here — they’d be an excellent way to complement to everything from slim dark blue denim and a heather grey shawl-collar cardigan to an American-made Oxford and charcoal trousers. Heck, you can even wear the Dowler Cap Toe Boots with your favorite henley and grey denim for a bit of rugged edge. And sharp winter tailoring is going to look great alongside these sleek Dowler Cap Toe Boots — think a navy worsted wool suit or a grey flannel three-piece suit. I’m telling you, the Dowler Cap Toe Boots can really do it all — pre-order now and see for yourself, yes?

That’ll do it on this front, folks. How do you feel about this edition of The List? I’m personally a HUGE fan of the  Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket.
