Folks, here we are again with another look at some of the best shopping deals for men, as we do every Sunday, and it helps that we’re back the swing of things with one of the best sweaters for men from Todd Snyder. Not just any old sweater, either. It’s the Todd Snyder way, after all, to take the basics, like the humble crewneck sweatshirt, and reinvent them in a way that’s fresh, modern, seriously well-made and seriously cool. That’s absolutely what you’re getting with the Todd Snyder Cashmere Crewneck Sweater, available in a cool shade of Camel for 29 percent off right now (that’s $209 at Todd Snyder, versus $298). Is that a serious investment for the seemingly humble crewneck sweater? It certainly is, but the difference is in the details, as you know with all things Todd Snyder menswear

Other editions of Todd Snyder cashmere sweaters are on sale as well, including a Todd Snyder Cashmere Crewneck in Electric Blue that you can score for 33 percent off. But for maximum versatility, serious style points and plenty of refined bang for your hard-earned bucks, let’s look at the Todd Snyder Cashmere Crewneck Sweater in Camel as we roll into another spring week.

SHOP: The Todd Snyder Cashmere Crewneck Sweater

Todd Snyder men's sweaters

The most versatile sweater you can buy for spring? You be the judge of that.

Simply put, the Todd Snyder Cashmere Crewneck Sweater in Camel has plenty going for it that makes it worth investment. There’s the cool Camel color, the kind you can wear with dark indigo jeans, light wash denim, your favorite pair of chinos or even canvas shorts in for a high-low style blend… you name it, and it’s the ideal shade to step into early spring and beyond. Of course, Todd Snyder cashmere sweaters have plenty going for them as far as quality is concerned, too. In this case, we’re talking a midweight cashmere fabric blend that’s as breathable as it is warm, making this the ideal sweater to layer up over a classic Oxford shirt or even a long-sleeve cotton T-shirt. The crewneck silhouette also is at once casual and yet crisp, providing the right base for a business casual look with a poplin dress shirt and a knit tie.

It’s also knit with ribbed cuffs at the wrists and the waist for a better fit (this sweater won’t stretch out or lose its shape). The Todd Snyder Cashmere Crewneck Sweater in Camel is the kind of sweater you’re going to find yourself wearing casually (even with tapered joggers and high-top sneakers) or when the need to dress up for a Zoom call comes into play, and that makes it a must-buy spring sweater.

Style Pick of the Week: Mack Weldon Ace Hooded Sweatshirt

Mack Weldon Ace Hooded Sweatshirt

One of the best hoodies for men to wear right now, and the rest of the season.

In recent weeks, we’ve really done a number here in our Style Pick of the Week series as far as the best outerwear and gear for spring is concerned. And because we’re still in the thick of it — spring weather, blustery days and plenty of pandemic time at home — we’re going to keep a similar theme rolling with one of the best hooded sweatshirts for men. Or perhaps, the very best hoodie for men. How about it, ehh? And the culprit, of course, is a familiar one if you read the blog: Mack Weldon, longtime favorites of The Style Guide when it comes to weekend-ready basics (check out this 2016 post for reference!) and plenty more.

Wolverine

And the Mack Weldon Ace Hooded Sweatshirt, a fan favorite, sure does have plenty going for it as far as the best hoodie for weekend style is concerned. We’ll get into it here shortly, but at first glance, it’s made with the quality and care you’d expect from Mack Weldon, especially for the price (it’s $88 at Mack Weldon). The micro-sanded French Terry cotton, infused with a nice amount of stretch elastane fabric, is what really sets it apart as far as the best men’s hoodies are concerned. If you thought that was the only thing that made it great, well, keep on scrolling to find out even more.

Mack Weldon review

Details that make the difference with Mack Weldon, including soft cotton fabric and a molded zipper.

The Mack Weldon Ace Hooded Sweatshirt is remarkably soft and seriously comfortable to wear for hours on end, whether you’re kicked back on the porch, coffee in hand, or dashing about town. That’s right: This is a stylish hooded sweatshirt you can wear layered underneath, say, a waxed trucker jacket on a breezy spring day for functionality and casual style points aplenty.  All that’s missing now is, say a Mack Weldon T-shirt for laidback lounging (and casual style when you do decide to take off this hoodie, of course). Small touches like a molded zipper — for added durability — ensure this classic men’s hoodie can stand up to plenty of repeated wear, and that goes for Netflix binging (Peaky Blinders, anyone??) or spring beer runs.

Of course, when you consider the fact that you can also get a deal on Mack Weldon joggers, you’ve practically got your new casual spring weekend uniform sorted out. It’s also worth noting that the Mack Weldon Ace Hooded Sweatshirt comes in enough colorways to please even the pickiest dresser, from Total Eclipse Blue (my personal favorite) to colors like Dark Forest and even a burgundy “Dark Rum” color. In short: When you want one of the best men’s hooded sweatshirts, this is the one to buy — and wear all spring, of course.

The Friday Read: The Best New Filson Shirt, Best Weekend Beers & the Best Men’s Pomade

Who’s ready for a fine spring weekend, outfitted accordingly with a new Filson shirt? I know I am, and I can say with confidence I think it’s going to be an especially great one (particularly coming off of St. Patrick’s Day, looking towards a warmer spring and celebrating college basketball’s March Madness). I’ll still be clearing out the last of my St. Patrick’s Day beers and wearing one of the best men’s shirts for spring all the while, with new tunes spinning and blog planning in the process — how about you? And yes, I think you can still enjoy one of the best St. Patrick’s Day beers a few days after the fact. Style-wise, I’ve got my eyes focused forward on the best new spring gear from Filson and more, including that stylish lightweight Filson shirt as shown above (you should also layer up accordingly for the season with this Filson rain pullover). Yes indeed, the Filson Kitsap Work Shirt is going to be the ideal way to get the job done this weekend (and beyond). On that note: What’s on your spring to-do list right now?

Before we get into the rest of today’s business, there’s one more thing. Here’s your weekly reminder, of course, to hit Subscribe on my newsletter, which goes out twice a week (Tuesday and Saturday!). In The Style Guide In Brief, I talk about what to listen to for your day, what to shop this week and what to sip on (usually craft beer, or coffee, or whiskey). Again, that’s twice a week and it’s totally free! The ball is in your court now, folks. For the rest of your weekend reading and shopping enjoyment, I give you the rundown in the remaining portion of The Friday Read. Cheers!

Best pomades for men

A cool styling clay to upgrade your look in a hurry.

  • Alright, so we’ve talked a bit about the best new shirt to wear this weekend. But how are you going to style up your hair to go hand-in-hand with that new shirt? After all, a new season calls for a  grooming refresh, too. One of my favorite men’s grooming picks as of late has got to be the Triumph & Disaster Coltrane Clay, an expert pick if you want one of the best men’s pomades on the market. The packaging is super cool, and the product inside offers a strong hold and a matte finish. It doesn’t get any better than that for a spring hair care routine refresh. Get it now at UNCRATE.
  • OK, folks. Here’s another spring move you’re going to love. The Orvis Heritage Field Coat is a stone-cold menswear classic, the perfect type of rugged waxed jacket to wear through blustery spring rain and wind. It’s got all the proper bells and whistles, including a classic corduroy collar and cuffs, and it wears quite well with everything from light wash denim to durable work pants. Layer up accordingly, my friends.
Converse men's sneakers

Classic sneakers at a truly classic price from Converse.

  • Let’s go with one more spring style pick today, shall we? Because the weather’s been so nice in Brooklyn lately, I’ve been gravitating towards classic men’s sneakers — and adding to my wish list all the while, too. That’s what brings me to the Converse Earthy Buck Chuck Taylor All-Stars, a pair of timeless low-top sneakers to wear with rolled light wash denim on days when it’s too nice and too warm for your Orvis Heritage Field Coat. How about that, folks?
  • Watch fans, rejoice, for Hamilton is back with another excellent timepiece to add to your rotation (if you’re willing to invest a bit of coin, that is). For Maxim, I wrote about the incredibly cool, highly precise and super-sharp Hamilton Chronograph H, featuring a new, intricate movement from the legendary brand. Your accessories game just got a shot in the arm.

That’s just going to nearly wrap up today’s Friday Read. What’s caught your eye from my weekend shopping and reading picks? Is it the rugged, classic Orvis Heritage Field Coat or the lightweight, sporty and stylish Converse Earthy Buck Chuck Taylor All-Stars, perhaps? Let me know in the comments below what you happen to be digging right now. I’ll also leave you with one more pick: I wrote all about my favorite spring boots from TAFT here on the blog, and they’re more than ready to help you step out with style and functionality in mind. Cheers and thanks for reading!

The Thursday Buy: Bundle up for Early Spring With One of the Best Men’s Sweaters From Aether Apparel

Aether Apparel Jersey Long-Sleeve Crew

Your new favorite sweater for spring from Aether Apparel.

If you thought it was high time you stowed away your rotation of men’s sweaters, I’d urge you to reconsider (if only briefly). In today’s Thursday Buy, after all, we’ve got the perfect piece to bridge the gap between winter and spring, and it just so happens to be the phenomenal Aether Apparel Jersey Long-Sleeve Crew. It’s a highly refined, functional and versatile layering essential, and it’s also one of the best sweaters for men I’ve seen in some time. It’s going to be the last sweater you buy for a while, too (it’s priced at $165 at Aether Apparel), but the brand gets plenty right when it comes to crafting the best menswear essentials for plenty of seasonal style.

The Aether Apparel Jersey Long-Sleeve Crew draws its heritage and quality from the very roots of the Aether Apparel brand, as it were. Aether Apparel was born on the West Coast in 2009, founded by two city dwellers looking for functional, utilitarian-yet-stylish gear to help them get around (and eventually, out of) the city. That city? Aether Apparel was founded in L.A., to be exact — the brand’s headquarters to this day. As they say, Aether is focused on durable, premium gear for “urban-dwelling, design-focused, well-traveled men and women,” but when it comes to one of the best men’s sweaters — to name but one example — this is a brand for everyone.

SHOP: The Aether Apparel Jersey Long-Sleeve Crew

Aether Apparel men's gear

Talk about one of the coolest men’s sweaters, complete with some functional detailing.

It’s that critical blend of technical, premium fabrics that gives pieces like the Aether Apparel Jersey Long-Sleeve Crew that critical versatility, the chance to go from the city to the trail (the hills above Los Angeles, perhaps?) and back. In this case, one of the best sweaters for men starts out with the proper fabric, a 100 percent cotton-jersey knit that should prove easy to layer atop your favorite T-shirt, a technical dress shirt or a classic Oxford shirt in equal measure. This is an on-the-go sweater (available in neutral colors like Stoker Red and Darkest Spruce Green) that you can throw on easily underneath everything from a waxed trucker jacket to a well-worn denim jacket, too.

How’s that for spring style that doesn’t miss a beat? The front chest pocket, with notched corner detailing (a signature from the brand), is distinctive and makes this stylish men’s sweater easier to wear all on its own, too. The split hem detailing is also a unique touch that helps the Aether Apparel Jersey Long-Sleeve Crew stand out quietly. Whether you make this a go-to casual weekend sweater for days at home or you choose to layer it up on a day hike, the Aether Apparel Jersey Long-Sleeve Crew is your new favorite sweater for spring — I can nearly guarantee it.

See Now, Buy Now: Make This Everlane Chore Shirt Your Go-To Layer This Spring

Everlane Chore Shirt Jacket

A workwear-inspired shirt jacket that can go the distance this spring.

Shed those bulky layers, put away that shearling leather jacket or that suede bomber jacket, and get ready to welcome spring in style. The bells are ringing out (figuratively) as the thermostat slowly but surely climbs across much of the country, so how best to herald a new season? It’s simple, really: With one of the best men’s shirt jackets, one that happens to be durable, stylish and responsibly made — all at once. That’d be the Everlane Chore Shirt Jacket, yet another much-welcomed men’s style essential from the San Francisco-based brand. You might recall we talked about the seriously cool Everlane Sherpa Trucker Jacket for winter, so consider this a sort of antidote to cold-weather style. Now, you hopefully recall Everlane from my guide to the best gear to buy for the new year from the brand, and it’s always worth keeping an eye on the latest and greatest from California. In this case, the rugged, versatile Everlane Chore Shirt Jacket features a 100 percent cotton twill build, making it the perfect layer to throw on quickly over your favorite T-shirt or a thermal henley on a particularly breezy spring morning. That’s hardly the end of it though, folks.

SHOP: The Everlane Chore Shirt Jacket

Everlane men's shirt jacket

The second of two cool colorways in which you can score your new favorite shirt jacket for spring.

For one of the best shirt jackets for men, you’re also looking at a standout price. We’re talking $78 at Everlane, making this one of the most affordable shirt jackets on the market, too. Would you expect anything less from a brand focused on transparency and quality? Everlane famously cuts out the middleman in the process, selling picks like this rugged shirt jacket right to stylish customers like yourself.

america

That makes ’em a winner in my book. Front-button chest pockets and two hip patch pockets provide that critical room for your everyday carry essentials, and it goes without saying that both the Ochre color and the handsome shade of Pine shown above will pair up nicely with everything from Everlane light wash denim to black workwear pants, T-shirts and perhaps even a classic crewneck sweatshirt if you want unique spring layering. Point being, whether you wear it as a blazer substitute on a Zoom call or throw it on to grab to-go beers, the Everlane Chore Shirt Jacket is, quite simply, your go-to spring layer.

#OOTD: How to Wear An Overshirt This Spring — The Best Way

If you’re looking to shed some extra layers in style, and if you’re looking for advice on how to wear an overshirt this spring, you’re in the right place. Simply put, if it’s a rugged men’s shirt you seek for spring, the kind that can go anywhere you ask it to go, then the Filson Lightweight Alaskan Guide Shirt is the one you want right now (and today’s #OOTD is the one to check out). It’s both one of the best men’s overshirts and one of the best standalone shirts in its own right, and that’s the way the rugged gear purveyors at Filson would like to have it. An overshirt is a workhorse of your wardrobe, as you’ll see today, with the ability to be worn atop your favorite henley (more on that in a moment) for breezy early spring style, no matter how blustery things get out there.

Spring is a time for new beginnings, new style moves and new opportunities to get back out there after a long, cold winter, and the best gear has just got to be up to snuff — that’s the way it is these days. And when you find yourself standing once again in front of your closet, pondering what to wear for a spring stroll or a day enjoying some socially distanced patio beers, you’ll find the proper answer below: The Filson Lightweight Alaskan Guide Shirt  is the casual overshirt you need ASAP.

How to wear an overshirt this spring

A rugged and reliable overshirt from Filson for spring layering.

  • The Lightweight Overshirt: Filson Lightweight Alaskan Guide Shirt, $125 — Made from a pre-washed, midweight cotton twill, this is the sort of stylish overshirt to throw on as a reliable top layer this spring whenever you could use one.
  • The Henley: Flint and Tinder Raglan Waffle Henley, $62 — It wouldn’t be an early spring ensemble without a rugged men’s henley to serve as an excellent base for your #OOTD, ehh?
  • The Pants: Proof Rover Pants, $98 — You’ve assuredly read about the Proof Rover Pants here on the blog, and they’re some of the best work pants for whatever spring throws at you (even if it’s just an afternoon of outdoor brews).
  • The Boots: Beckett Simonon Lopez Boots, $239 — Because spring days can be jam-packed, you need some of the best leather boots for both durability and serious style. Plus, you can use the code BEAU for 20 percent off
  • The Socks: American Trench Retro Stripe Socks, $12.50 — No pair of leather boots is complete without some of the best socks for men, ehh? This retro pair takes the cake.
  • The Belt: Tanner Gods Classic Belt, $105 — One of the best leather belts should be a staple of any man’s wardrobe, and this Tanner Goods belt is a longtime favorite of mine.
  • The Watch: Timex Standard Leather Strap Watch, $79 — The right way to finish off this #OOTD? With one of the best men’s watches under $100, of course. Nothing better.
  • The Spring Beer: Craft Beer Club Beer of the Month Box, $44.75 (12-Pack) — Folks, how cool is this? Join this monthly craft beer club and get 12 beers a month for under $45, featuring plenty of seasonal styles like the Zipline Kolsch and more.
  • The Outdoor Essential: DISCOMMON Bottle Opener, $110 — Casual beers on your back porch just got a whole lot cooler — this titanium-and-leather bottle opener is a beautifully designed addition to your EDC, and perfect for weekend afternoon utility.

If you ask me, every great #OOTD for a new season is built from the ground up (or the top down) on the strength of both the little things (take the retro stripe socks shown here, some of the best socks for men) and the big things. Of course, the centerpiece of this rugged and on-the-go outfit is the Filson Lightweight Alaskan Guide Shirt, a durable and well-made overshirt to wear through breezy spring days on end. It doesn’t all come together with the right layers and the right supporting cast, like a rugged men’s henley and a pair of the best work pants for spring adventures, days in the field and days kicked back at the outdoor beer garden. How’s that for versatility, ehh?

That versatility is also the name of the game with a pair of the best leather boots, a hard-working plain toe pair of leather boots — a pair that’s also 20 percent off with the code BEAU, lest we forget. Round it all out with one of the best men’s watches under $100, and pair that combination up with a stylish leather belt from Tanner Goods. Last but certainly not least, stock your fridge for spring with beers from a handy monthly craft beer club, and keep cracking ’em open with one of the coolest bottle openers out there. Does that check off your list of spring style needs to start things off right? I sure hope so. Cheers and happy shopping!

That’s going to do it for the lion’s share of today’s Friday Read, but I’ll leave you with one more pick heading into the weekend. If you find yourself in need of a new #OOTD for spring weather, my guide on how to wear a field jacket is going to be just the ticket for standout, durable and functional style. If you do check out any of those selections, be sure to let me know on Twitter. Once again: Cheers!
