Style Pick of the Week: Todd Snyder Italian Quilted Shirt Jacket – The Best Shirt Jacket for Winter to Shop Now

Italian Quilted Shirt Jacket in Grey Donegal

If you’ve been searching for one of the best winter layers and you haven’t yet found one, now is the right time to stock up on, well, one of the best shirt jackets for men. It’s mid-December, after all, and it’s time to amp up that outerwear rotation in a big way. That doesn’t mean reverting to a bulky parka just yet, though. And that’s why we’re here, of course, telling you all about the best men’s shirt jacket. It’s within your reach, and the Todd Snyder Italian Quilted Shirt Jacket is the proper pick for today, this weekend and the rest of winter.

It’s the sort of rugged wardrobe upgrade that the Iowa-born designer specializes in, be it finding a way to make the humble chambray shirt into the best men’s chambray shirt, or turning the classic waxed trucker jacket into one of the best men’s jackets, period. It’s true, and if you’ve never shopped Todd Snyder, then right now is actually an ideal time to start. But back to what makes the Todd Snyder Italian Quilted Shirt Jacket so exceptional. It all starts with, naturally, the fabric, which is a donegal wool blend available in a plethora of rich colors (more on that in a second).

Italian Quilted Shirt Jacket in Wool Tartan

In short, the Todd Snyder Italian Quilted Shirt Jacket is the perfect blend of premium style and materials, plus the rugged functionality you need in a winter layer. It’s lined with Italian nylon and features a poly filling, all the better for added warmth on the go. But it’s the exterior wool-blend fabric that really sets the Todd Snyder Italian Quilted Shirt Jacket from the pack, making this shirt jacket more similar to a traditional winter blazer than an overly technical shirt jacket. It’s the Grey Donegal wool option that should prove most versatile when you want to score a shirt jacket (or “shacket”) you can dress up with tailored charcoal wool trousers, perhaps atop a Todd Snyder turtleneck for an eye-catching blend of high-low style. Yes indeed, this quilted shirt jacket is both technically savvy and stylish in equal measure. It could just be your new favorite winter layer, whether worn with a thermal shirt, a rugged henley or an Oxford shirt.

Beyond just the dependable style of the Todd Snyder Italian Quilted Shirt Jacket‘s Grey Donegal option, it’s also available in the eye-catching Tartan Plaid as shown above. But if you want the most bang for your buck (this shacket retails for $598 at Todd Snyder), then Grey Donegal is your best bet. Either way, the Todd Snyder Italian Quilted Shirt Jacket is one of the coolest, most reliable and rugged layers on the market. Happy shopping, my friends.

The Friday Read: The Olivers Apparel Mystery Box, BACARDI Rum & A Taylor Stitch Sale

Taylor Stitch Waxed Bomber Jacket

Here’s the deal: It’s Friday, it’s the holiday season and in my estimation, that makes it one heck of a great time to shop and save. It’s never a bad thing to get a deal on some of the best men’s outerwear, and starting tomorrow, that’s what San Francisco-based Taylor Stitch is offering up. The famed brand, one of the best online menswear shops for guys, is running an Outerwear Flash Sale, giving you 25 percent off select outerwear and 50 percent off select archive styles. The Taylor Stitch Outerwear Flash Sale only runs Saturday and Sunday, so mark your calendars accordingly and then get shopping. How’s that for the right way to start a weekend? It’s not bad at all, if you ask me.

It’s one heck of a way to jumpstart your winter wardrobe, and it’s a pretty fitting one in my neck of the woods. I’ll be bundled up on a winter weekend trip back to Michigan to celebrate a friend’s 30th birthday (Chris Spyke, whom I met on the first day of kindergarten, no less!). I can’t believe this milestone is already here, and my own 30th birthday follows next month. Expect great beer and plenty of bundled-up ensembles if you follow me on Instagram, and if not, well, what are you waiting for? I’ll be sure to share more details on the Taylor Stitch Outerwear Flash Sale on social media, too. Stay tuned, shop safe, be well and cheers to more weekend menswear deals!

  • Interested in stocking up on some of the best new menswear at a discount? With some additional goodies up for the taking, to boot? Well, Olivers Apparel has you covered with its Mystery Box promotion right now. Here’s the scoop While supplies last, customers will get to pick between a $150 or $275 Mystery Box. These boxes are both a ‘surprise’ in that the contents of the box are unknown, and they’re also sold for 50 percent off retail. How’s that for finding the best menswear on sale now, right?
  • Who can turn down cozy holiday style? Not I, and I can’t quite turn down the chance to both test out some new apparel and try some classic BACARDI rum. It’s very good news, then, that the legendary brand just launched an apparel collection with Aviator Nation, here just in time for the holidays and plenty of laidback (yet stylish) lounging. While you check that out, of course, you should also use Drizly to get BACARDI delivered to your door. Happy shopping and sipping, folks.
  • If you missed this feature just yesterday, well, have I got the menswear pick you need now. Layer up for winter with this rugged Relwen tanker jacket, the sort of pick you’ll only find within the well-stocked digital shelves of Huckberry. It’s perhaps my new favorite jacket of the moment, and I think you’ll more than agree.

That’ll wrap up today’s Friday Read just in the nick of time, seeing as I’ve got some Michigan winter festivities to enjoy this weekend. I hope you’ve got a fun, safe, holiday weekend planned yourself, ideally outfitted in the most stylish menswear on the market. Thanks for reading and thanks for supporting The Style Guide!

The Thursday Buy: The Relwen Quilted Tanker is the Coolest Winter Jacket to Buy Right Now

Building the right winter wardrobe is as much about the details as it is about the big-ticket items, like securing one of the best winter jackets for men. You’ve hopefully already got some of the best men’s winter boots on your list, for example, but there’s more to it than that when it comes down to getting dressed for winter. Time is of the essence these days, as winter rolls into town in earnest — why not score a rugged, perfectly functional jacket from Relwen to make fighting winter weather that much more smooth and stylish? It’s not all about looks when it comes to Relwen though, and the military-inspired brand (sold by your friends at Huckberry, one of the best online shops for men) goes above and beyond here with the Relwen Quilted Tanker. If you’ve not yet shopped the Columbus-based brand, now’s your chance.

If you want a jacket that’s dependable, rugged and yet fashion-forward in its own way (note the camo pattern below), then the Relwen Quilted Tanker is your best bet at the moment. It’s modeled off a cold-weather tanker jacket (note the military tie-in), but it’s been updated for 2021 and beefed up in the all the right places. The woven nylon-cotton shell won’t slow you down, as it’s not overly bulky, and it’s also been treated with a peached, brushed finish for added softness. The Relwen Quilted Tanker checks all the proper boxes in the comfort department, and then some. That’s not all, folks.

The Relwen Quilted Tanker is packed with bells and whistles you need when gearing up for frigid conditions, right down to the recycled poly fill and a box quilting for maximum insulation when and where you need it most. From there, it’s all about the helpful design touches that you can only find at many partner brands as sold at Huckberry. Take the right zipper chest pocket to store your everyday carry essentials, for instance, plus quilted hip utility pockets for even more storage potential. The Relwen Quilted Tanker is overly built, dependable as can be and meant to take on adventures on and off the trail (or around town).

Better still, the Relwen Quilted Tanker should fit somewhat slim while still offering potential for layering, especially, with, say, a durable Relwen sweater. How’s that for a brand you can trust? To really finish things off the right way, once you’ve layered this jacket atop other cozy winter staples, then you can either zip up the Relwen Quilted Tanker, use the snap-front closure or do both to keep out chilly seasonal weather. Last but certainly not least, the Relwen Quilted Tanker is available in a wear-with-anything (seriously, anything) Dark Forest or Black Camo color, and the stand-up, dual-snap collar adds yet another layer of functionality. The Relwen Quilted Tanker can go anywhere you want it to go this season.

See Now, Buy Now: These Flint and Tinder 365 Corduroy Pants Are Your New Winter Trousers

If you haven’t yet found one of the best pairs of men’s pants for winter, now’s the perfect time to stock up accordingly, and you’ll be relieved to know you can find your new favorite pants at your favorite retailer (or one of your favorite retailers, that is). I’m talking about Huckberry, the San Francisco (and Austin!)-based merchant that’s built quite the foundation for itself over the years as far as men’s style classics are concerned. Heck, just check out the rundown of Huckberry Bestsellers up for grabs, including the winter-friendly Flint and Tinder 365 Corduroy Pants.

They’re just like the Flint and Tinder 365 Pants you love and wear the rest of the year, yet this time, they’re done up in a seasonally ready fabric and packed with plenty of style points. You already know Huckberry as the makers of some of the best boots for men, not to mention one of the top men’s jackets you can layer up with this season. So, why not expand your Huckberry-centric wardrobe even further with the ever-reliable Flint and Tinder 365 Corduroy Pants? There’s lots to love about these tailored pants, starting with three excellent fits (Slim, Straight and Tapered), plus a wealth of colors from which to choose. Keep on scrolling for more, though.

So, color and fit are on-point, naturally, with the Flint and Tinder 365 Corduroy Pants — as to be expected, of course. What about fabrication? Of course, the good folks at Huckberry deliver there, too. 98 percent cotton corduroy and 2 percent stretch comes together in a pair of the best men’s pants for cold-weather dressing, from the office to holiday parties and winter weekends on the road. Antique nickel hardware is a nice design touch, but where these pants really shine is that crucial blend of both style and sustainability. 98 percent of the water used to make the Flint and Tinder 365 Pants is repurposed and reused, a notable benchmark given that it can be tough to make pants sustainably these days. Fear not though, because your friends at Huckberry are on it.

No matter which fit or color you select of the Flint and Tinder 365 Corduroy Pants, you’re going to get standout seasonal style in spades. They’re every bit as versatile as the classic 365 Pants, so feel free to pair them up with more rugged picks from the rotation of Huckberry Bestsellers, like the much-loved Flint and Tinder Waxed Trucker Jacket and a pair of finely crafted leather boots (I’d suggest layering up with one of the best thermal shirts for men to round things out). And if you want to go dressy, perhaps with a retro-inspired cardigan and an Oxford shirt, the Flint and Tinder 365 Corduroy Pants offer up crisp, yet comfortable, style in spades. Again, no matter the fit, style or color you select, the Flint and Tinder 365 Corduroy Pants have the potential to be an unstoppable pair of pants this winter. See for yourself and reap the stylish rewards. Cheers, my friends!

Style Pick of the Week: Relwen Shawl Cardigan – The Most Rugged Winter Cardigan to Buy Now

I’m always of the opinion that in matters of men’s style, it’s best not to get caught flat-footed. That is to say, I think shopping for the best winter style essentials is of the essence right now, seeing as we’ve hit December, and that goes for plenty of different picks in your wardrobe — including one of the best men’s cardigans. We’ve got Relwen and the aptly named Relwen Shawl Cardigan to dig into right now, and if you hadn’t yet given a cardigan a good, long look this winter, now’s the best time to add yet another vital men’s sweater to your rotation. It’s coming at you courtesy of Huckberry, of course, and it certainly makes sense that the multi-faceted men’s retailer can deliver on one of the best sweaters for men, and then some.

The cardigan has definitely had a style moment over the past handful of years, but it’s here to stay, mainly because it’s a certified menswear classic with functional roots (note the thick shawl collar, designed to serve as another layer of protection against the winter wind). And beyond that, a pick like the Relwen Shawl Cardigan has the sort of style roots that almost serve as an homage to menswear icons like Steve McQueen, who himself loved a shawl collar cardigan back in the day. These days, the Relwen Shawl Cardigan has more modern fabric going for it (in this case, a body made of merino wool and low pill acrylic), plus a nicely tailored fit. With the Relwen Shawl Cardigan, things are just getting started. In short, it translates everything you love about the military influences of Relwen, and brings it forward into 2021.

In every facet imaginable, the Relwen Shawl Cardigan is a step up from the ordinary, price included (it retails for a splurge-worthy $298 at Huckberry). That means that it’s got all the specs and style points you could want, and then some. It’s even lined in a cotton jersey-spandex blend, which makes it almost like a jacket as opposed to a more thin merino wool cardigan, for instance. The thick rib knit also gives the Relwen Shawl Cardigan even more of a vintage-inspired feel, like a cardigan you’d find stowed away at a coastal or mountain cabin on a cold night. What’s not to love about that? There’s even a chest pocket and two hip pockets for stowing your everyday carry essentials, making this ideal to wear as top layer if it’s not too snowy or blustery.

The Relwen Shawl Cardigan is decidedly a bit more bulky than your average sweater, but you should still be able to layer it up underneath a waxed trucker jacket in a pinch (and how does it get any more rugged for winter than that?). Last but not least, if you so choose, you can use two collar buttons to get even more closure around your neck for added warmth in extreme conditions — the Relwen Shawl Cardigan really does check all the boxes, and it looks perfectly classic and ultra-stylish while doing so. It’s one of the best men’s cardigans, easily. If you decide to layer up with it, feel free to let me know on Twitter. Here’s to a winter weekend, my friends!

The Friday Read: Everlane’s New Shoes, The Best Men’s Shirt for Winter & The Best Serums for Men

Ever come across a shirt that’s so well-suited for a winter weekend, it makes you wonder why you’ve never come across it before? That’s my first thought when considering the stellar lineup of rugged, rough-and-tumble and yet classic men’s long-sleeve shirts from Western retailer Tecovas, a brand you need to know. You might remember I talked about Tecovas, makers of some of the most stylish leather Chelsea boots, a few weeks back on the blog, but they do much more than craft just durable, timeless Western leather boots (note the Tecovas Brushed Cotton Pearl Snap Shirt — as seen above). Of note: You can earn $25 for every $100 you spend, too. It’s high time you upgraded your shirting wardrobe, and if you ask me, a sub-$100 Western shirt from Tecovas is a mighty fine way to do that as head into a December weekend. What else should you shop this weekend? I’m glad you asked.

You could start with my guide for The Manual covering the best puffer jackets, particularly as chilly December weather hits, and you could also really step things up and scour my music and menswear newsletter, The Style Guide In Brief, for both style and music picks. How about that, ehh? Of course, I’ve got a few more picks beyond what I’ve recommended above. Let’s read and shop to keep that Friday rolling.

  • I’m going to shine a spotlight on a recent release that I think is perfectly well-suited to your weekend shopping pursuits. Everlane just released a new collection of men’s shoes, including a pair of classic desert boots and some new Everlane men’s sneakers. Both retail for just $125 and come in two crisp shades of suede, so you can’t go wrong when it comes down to the right mix of high-low holiday style.
  • Let’s step from a men’s footwear pick into a new grooming essential to upgrade your routine ASAP. Over at AskMen.com, I wrote about the best serums for men, which have the potential to nourish, smooth and soften your mug in just hours. See for yourself which ones are my favorites — of course, I had to include Caldera+Lab and American Provenance. Happy shopping, folks.
  • In need of a pair of go-anywhere blue jeans, the kind that work at the office and on the road? Allow me to offer up my guide to the best blue jeans to wear anywhere, for the holidays, at the office and beyond. Check it out at The Manual to get the full scoop.

That’ll wrap up today’s Friday Read, which hopefully gives you plenty of time to shop and read those choice selections above. But I’ve got one more pick for you before we roll through Friday — the good folks at Shinola specialize in the best men’s watches, sure, but they’ve also done quite the job of crafting the best leather wallet for men, which I wrote about here. Stock up accordingly, my friends. And TGIF!

The Thursday Buy: The Shinola Vinton Watch is the Classic Timepiece You Need Now

There are some men’s accessories that are so timeless and sharp, it’d almost be foolish not to invest in them. That’s the case, at least, with the best watches for men as produced by Shinola, a full lineup from the Detroit-based watchmaker and luxury goods brand, and that especially applies to the seriously cool, super-sharp Shinola Vinton Watch. If you’re a fan of the brand (new or old!), then you know that Shinola can do it all, from making one of the best weekender bags on the market to delivering one of the coolest dress watches for your wrist. It’s with that blend of classic and modern style that they’ve added the Shinola Vinton Watch to the brand’s ever-expanding and yet carefully curated lineup of watches. The Shinola Vinton Watch hits on all the right notes if you want a watch (particularly heading into the holiday season) that you can wear to the office and to holiday gatherings without missing a beat.

It features classic stainless steel construction found in durable dive watches, but the Shinola Vinton Watch really stands apart (quietly, of course) thanks to its crisp dial design and a nice, dressy 38mm case diameter. It’s a solid change of pace from the ever-so-slightly more rugged Shinola Runwell Collection, which boasts options with case diameter measurements of up to 47mm. Yes indeed, the Shinola Vinton Watch just gets the details (big and small) correct.

The specs on the Shinola Vinton Watch, of course, hold up to scrutiny, and they do so at a price that’s lower than expected ($550 at Shinola, to be exact). The dial is both crisp, timeless and refreshing, as all Shinola watch dials tend to be, and the option to get something as sharp as a blue dial against a smooth stainless steel case makes the Shinola Vinton Watch just the right blend of tailored and laidback. The Shinola Vinton Watch is the kind of watch to pair with casual staples (like a thermal crewneck and dark blue denim) as well as more business casual offerings, like tailored chinos and your favorite cardigan.

Other watch design options include a visually striking Midnight Blue paired with handsome PVD gold hardware, right down to the bracelet itself. It’s a worthwhile option to consider the most versatile offering for your own wardrobe with the Shinola Vinton Watch, but it’s almost hard to go wrong with any option (this is Shinola we’re talking about, after all). The best men’s watches also beat the rest of the field with small touches, like a date window at 3 o’clock, set against that well-done dial design you only get at Shinola. When you want to upgrade what’s on your wrist, the choice is clear: Make it Shinola, and make your next purchase the Shinola Vinton Watch.
