#OOTD: Here’s The Rugged Henley to Wear This Summer

If there’s one item I reach for more consistently than any other — no matter the season — it’s got to be a rugged men’s henley. Yes indeed, in the high heat of summer (the perfect time for a short-sleeve henley) and the chilling depths of winter (hello, slim long-sleeve henley), it’s simply an easy-to-wear, effective and stylish choice. But you knew that, right? After all, we talked this spring about how to upgrade your henley. There’s no question that it can easily layer under your favorite summer blazer or be worn on its own — crucially. And today’s all-new, hyper-stylish #OOTD here on The Style Guide covers perhaps the best short-sleeve henley to buy now — or at least, consider buying. And if you read the blog frequently — and shop the hallowed halls of Style Guide friend Huckberry — you should know the brand that makes it: The inimitable folks at Flint and Tinder.

As it were, the centerpiece of today’s outfit is the Flint and Tinder Supima AirKnit Henley, done up in comfortable, breathable fabric with a modern fit. The rest of this ensemble has all the trappings of a rugged, tough outfit that someone like, say, noted henley wearer Mr. Daniel Craig might enjoy wearing.  At any rate, I hope you’re excited to check out some slim dark blue denim, classic men’s boots and a few other hard-wearing touches — including a rugged casual watch. If I were you, I’d wear this outfit out to your next brew pub crawl or even a quick day trip out to the country. And it’s even got a couple pieces — like a stylish everyday backpack — that might get you from point A to point B in many a situation. I don’t want to ruin all the fun, though. Read on below and let me know how you like these #menswear picks!

Rugged men's henley

Take your (new) favorite rugged henley and layer it with a crisp bomber jacket, dark denim and tough boots — wear it now sans jacket, and keep this look handy come fall.

The Henley: Flint and Tinder Supima AirKnit Henley, $55 — First things first: Don’t be alarmed by the use of black here! This Flint and Tinder henley is crisp and slimming, and gents like Daniel Craig  make frequent use of black tees on their own.

The Bomber: Taylor Stitch Bomber Jacket in Charcoal, $188 — If you know Taylor Stitch, you know that they excel at tough, rugged and yet wearable pieces — this Taylor Stitch bomber jacket works for cool summer evenings and chillier fall days in equal measure.

The Denim: Abercrombie & Fitch Langdon Slim Coolmax Jeans, $88 — A&F, a favorite of The Style Guide, is back with a revamped denim line featuring revamped fits — the Langdon is slim, classic and wearble in August thanks to Coolmax technology.

The Belt: Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt in Chestnut, $80 — Lest you think accessories don’t matter … think again. The folks at Sturdy Brothers make a heritage-quality belt that happens to mesh perfectly with this look.

The Boots: Astorflex Bootflex in Dark Khaki, $190 — Quality lace-up boots made with sustainable style in mind for under $200? That’s what you get with the surprisingly lightweight Astorflex Bootflex.

(Not Pictured) The Socks: Teva Benny Gold Socks (Limited Edition), $12 — Space can be limited in our #OOTD series, but socks that offer up a pop of pleasingly bright blue should pair well with the A&F dark blue denim.

The Watch: Lum-Tec Combat B35 Automatic Watch, $799.98 — You might say this rugged Lum-Tec watch is the grandaddy of them all. Beastly looks, excellent styling potential, rugged vibes, a handsome leather strap … the  Lum-Tec Combat B35 belongs on any wish list of the best men’s gear.

The Backpack: Topo Designs Klettersack, $188 — Don’t get me wrong, I love a stylish messenger bag as much as the next guy. But if you want a grab-and-go bag for a day trip or a bar crawl — particularly when paired with a rugged menswear ensemble — the Topo Designs Klettersack could be your best bet.

The Sunscreen: Salt & Stone Sunscreen (SPF 30) , $17.99 — Sunscreen is one of those things that’s likely the last item tossed in any bag — with Salt & Stone‘s crisp design (and important functionality!), you won’t forget it again.

Have you given any thought as to where you might take this outfit? It can go just about anywhere — an upstate day trip, a trip to the farmer’s market and your local park, an afternoon at your favorite watering hole … and I’d wager it’s all because of the rugged versatility of the Flint and Tinder henley shown here. And because it can go anywhere, it’s important you grab a similarly tough bag. For instance: Take the Topo Designs Klettersack and fill it with essentials like the Taylor Stitch Bomber Jacket and much-needed Salt & Stone sunscreen. And the best part is that you can easily complement your Flint and Tinder henley with other rugged basics, from dark denim to the crisp, stylish Astorflex Bootflex. What you’ve got on your wrist is equally important — my favorite part of this ensemble might be the Lum-Tec Combat B35. And if you read this blog, you know that the details make the difference — start with a heritage-quality belt and go from there.

Let me know: What do you think of this rugged #OOTD? Drop a line in the comments!

#OOTD: A New Way to Wear Your Favorite Graphic Tee For Summer

We’ve all got that one perfectly broken-in T-shirt we love to wear — right? A well-worn, well-loved tee that’s likely seen a lot. And yet … what if I told you that same style was available in a distinctly modern (and likely less hole-y) T-shirt from your favorite menswear designer? Yes indeed, folks. Today’s #OOTD is all about how to wear a graphic tee for summer… for grown-ups. That means one of the best T-shirts for men, crucially. So, no loud or ostentatious designs, no bright or overly flashy colors … just a simple, well-made and vintage-inspired tee paired up with like-minded essentials. Think American-made denim, stylish leather sneakers and a rugged leather watch.

This right here is the sort of outfit you can wear to your favorite brewery, your favorite coffee shop or your favorite deli — you name it, it’s nearly perfect for laidback, easygoing summer days. Just add a stylish jacket and consider yourself set for days and days of fun in the sun. I promise you, it’ll all work out. Shop the #OOTD below, chime in with your thoughts on Twitter and check out my Instagram account for more ways to stylish your new favorite tee. See you out there — cheers!

A smart-looking graphic tee, this time paired up with American-made denim, clean sneakers and a tough leather watch.

The Tee: Todd Snyder x Champion Track Graphic Tee, $60— Yes, it’s true. Todd Snyder makes a heck of an essential graphic tee, what with a simple-yet-interesting design in cool color combo that’s relatively easy to wear.

The Denim: Flint and Tinder All-American Jeans in Slim or Straight Tapered, $88.98— Whichever fit and wash you like, feel free to take those jeans and mash ’em up with this outfit. For what it’s worth, your Style Guide author loves the fit and fabric of the Flint and Tinder All-American Jeans.

Nautica

The Sneakers: JAK Empire Sneakers, $119.98 — JAK is a brand that you might say has flown under the radar, yet these classically inspired sneakers in a crisp silhouette team up quite nicely with the easygoing graphic tee and slim light wash denim.

The Socks: Arvin Goods No-show Socks, $30 (Exclusive Three-pack)  — Your Style Guide team of one continues to go to bat for the sustainably made, comfortable and easy-to-wear  Arvin Goods No-show socks. You’ll need a pair — or three — for the rest of the summer.

Timex

The Belt: Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt in Chestnut, $80 — A rugged belt built with casual, sturdy style in mind is exactly what you need to offset an outfit that’s equally rugged and casual. Sturdy Brothers does the trick.

Save up to 25% each month by joining Style Plan at Frank + Oak! *Free Shipping & Returns. No code necessary. Monthly membership for men & women.

The Watch: Halios Laguna Watch, $675 — If you want a remarkably striking, tough and well-crafted watch, you’re going to want the Halios Laguna Watch. The bold style of this timepiece offsets the simple tee quite nicely.

The Sunglasses: Steven  Alan Bristol Sunglasses in Brushed Dark Gunmetal, $265 — A vintage-inspired tee, tough American-made denim and a stylish leather watch call for suitably striking accessories, like the utterly classic Steven Alan Bristol Sunglasses.

The Hat: FairEnds Brushed Cotton Ballcap in Beach Olive, $48 — Whether you’re hopping from patio to patio or bar to bar, a simple cotton ballcap shields your face from the sun and adds a nice topper to this casual outfit.

That’ll do it for today’s #OOTD. When wearing something as pared-down as a vintage-inspired graphic tee, standout complementary pieces really get the chance to shine. So, that puts the focus squarely on your stylish leather sneakers (how about those JAKS Empire Sneakers, ehh?), as well as handy everyday essentials like the handsome Halios Laguna Watch.  Let’s not forget slim denim, though — Flint and Tinder makes some of the best men’s jeans around. Finish it off with the ever-stylish Steven Alan Bristol Sunglasses and a casual ballcap, and I’d wager you’ll be set for a couple rounds at your favorite craft beer bar.  What’s your take on this #OOTD? Will you be adding any items to your rotation?

Thanks again for reading — stay stylish!

#OOTD: How to Wear a Blazer When It’s Hot This Summer

Let’s get down to business right off the bat — in the remaining time we’ve got this summer, you should certainly be considering how to wear a blazer this summer.  That’s especially true for when it’s hot out — like, really hot out. You’ll surely need all the help you can get. It seems simple enough at first, yet there are plenty of #menswear tips and tricks to consider when throwing on a streamlined suit jacket or a lightweight, classic blazer. For one, you’re going to want to start your search for the perfect summer jacket by going both lighter in weight and lighter in color — fabric blends that incorporate linen, like the option we’ll discuss in today’s #OOTD, are the way to go. The featured jacket in today’s ensemble does a nice job of checking both of those boxes — that featured jacket just happens to be he Taylor Stitch Telegraph Jacket, featuring a pleasantly earthy (yet summer-ready) charcoal color and a stretchy wool-linen blend. The fit is going to be modern, classic and easily wearable with other summer style essentials — a slim navy polo among them. Like other entries in our #OOTD series, it’s all geared toward casual, versatile and seasonally friendly style. But I won’t give the rest away — that’s for you to find out. Got questions on all things style and men’s lifestyle? Fire off a Tweet in  my direction, and keep up with all of my summer men’s style tips on Instagram.

Take your favorite lightweight blazer and pair it with a sharp polo and classic men’s dress shoes.

The Jacket: Taylor Stitch Telegraph Jacket, $278 —  You certainly know the Taylor Stitch brand and its body of handsome, stylish work — this stylish suit jacket functions just as well as a blazer, with more style and comfort to boot.

The Polo: Flint and Tinder Supima AirKnit Polo, $68 — Certainly, you can swap in your favorite navy polo here without buying this sharp, well-made option from Flint and Tinder… but why would ya want to do that?

The Pocket Square: J. Crew Cotton Pocket Square, $45 — A somewhat overlooked accessory that’s still crucial here — the cotton pocket square livens this outfit up and provides visual contrast to the casual polo.

The Trousers: Banana Republic Slim Non-Iron Cotton Stretch Pant, $89.50 — For solid, well-fitting and accessibly priced work staples, Banana Republic knows how to set you up. The light blue color contrasts nicely against the navy polo and light charcoal jacket, too.

Florsheim

The Belt: Banana Republic Stretch Leather Belt, $34.50 (On-Sale) — Might as well get your belt from the same spot you get your pants, right? This textured stretch belt is versatile and not overly dressy.

The Shoes: Allen Edmonds Strandmok Cap Toe Oxford, $295 — A positively gorgeous pair of exquisite footwear, crafted to last from the excellent footwear purveyors at Allen Edmonds.

The Socks: Arvin Goods No-Show Socks (Three-pack), $30 — You guessed it, folks. We’re actually going with no-show socks here — cuff those trousers a bit for European-inspired style points.

Nautica

The Watch: About Vintage 1844 Chronograph,$309.98 — Similar in nature to the refined, sleek and yet accessible Spirit of St. Louis Chronograph from Armogan, this About Vintage timepiece channels wearable, eye-catching style.

The Sunglasses: Knockaround Fast Lanes Sunglasses, $19.98— If you don’t yet have a pair of  stylish summer sunglasses in your rotation, then I’d say … you need the simple, durable and ridiculously well-priced Knockaround Fast Lanes Sunglasses. How much better can it get?

What’s the biggest key to keep in mind when styling a blazer this summer? In addition to finding that perfect fit for your stylish summer jacket, lightweight fabric is critical. The Taylor Stitch Telegraph Jacket  knocks it out of the park in that regard, and it’s able to be layered up casually with the crisp-yet-laidback Flint and Tinder Supima AirKnit Polo. A patterned pocket square rounds things out on your top half, and light blue trousers and a rich brown leather belt should provide solid visual interest to complete the main components of this summer-ready #OOTD. And when it comes to footwear? There’s hardly a more reliably stylish and well-crafted American footwear brand than Allen Edmonds — just don’t forget your stylish no-show socks. And before you leave the house, I’d strongly advise you to strap on a stylish leather watch from About Vintage — it’s vintage inspiration without the vintage price tag. The same can be said for those handy, durable Knockaround Fast Lanes Sunglasses. That’ll wrap things up for today — as always, the difference is in the details. How will you be styling your polo and blazer for the rest of the summer?

Stay stylish and stay cool,

-Beau

#OOTD: How to Wear A Polo Shirt This Summer

If you’ve been dressing for warm weather for a few months now, perhaps your #menswear rotation feels a bit stale. After all, perhaps you’ve got that slim-fit polo shirt and yet … don’t quite know how to wear it or what to wear it with? Aside from pairing it up with slim light wash denim or tailored chino shorts, there are a few key moves you should keep in mind when using a slim polo shirt as the basis of your ensemble.  Importantly, don’t shy away from pairing up said polo with a tailored jacket. The key to getting that oft-coveted versatility so many of us seek in a stylish summer polo? It all starts with a shirt that’s dressy, crisp and tailored — yet easy to wear with just about anything. That’s where Criquet Shirts comes into play. Namely, its Slim-Fit Player’s Shirt — crafted with a sharp collar, quality fabric and breathability in the summer heat — is a winner. I can certainly vouch for that, having taken a few of the brand’s polo shirts on a Memorial Day weekend trip to Florida.  And I think you’ll be similarly pleased if you pick up a Slim-Fit Player’s Shirt  for yourself — so stay tuned, read on and let me know what you think of the following outfit via The Style Guide Facebook page.

Nautica

A sharp, slim-fitting polo plus a crisp suit jacket and garment-washed chinos — all staples that are stylish and summer-friendly.

The Shirt: Criquet Shirts Slim-Fit Player’s Shirt in Midnight Cowboy, $79 — As we’ve mentioned before, Criquet Shirts knows how to make a nice, wearable and modern-yet-classic polo — you know, the kind McQueen might’ve worn.

Florsheim
The Jacket: Taylor Stitch Telegraph Jacket, $278 — Made in part from linen — the of-the-moment fabric you need in your closet  this summer — the modern Taylor Stitch Telegraph Jacket nicely offsets the sharp polo.

The Trousers: Johnston and Murphy Slim-Fit Garment-Washed Chinos, $88 — While you could certainly wear your Criquet Shirts Slim-Fit Player’s Shirt with matching Taylor Stitch suit trousers, slim chinos in a pleasing off-white shade are summer-friendly and a bit more casual.

The Shoes: Nisolo Calano Oxford, $188 —  Clean, simple and well-constructed, the Nisolo Calano Oxford is a sharp alternative to traditional brown wingtips.

The Socks: Arvin Goods No-show Socks (Three-pack), $30 — Thanks to past entries on this site — including how to wear linen trousers this summer — I’d wager you’re familiar with the comfortable, affordable Arvin Goods No-show Socks — they’re a critical way to keep your feet cool when worn with rolled chinos.

Ben ShermanThe Watch: Orient Bambino Second Generation, $179.98 — For a look that incorporates both tailored and more casual elements, reach for a handsome, clean watch like the Orient Bambino Second Generation.

Sutro Footwear

The Sunglasses: Norton Point Charlie 014 Sunglasses, $99.98 — A returning entrant from this site’s Style Pick of the Week series,  the Norton Point Charlie 014 Sunglasses blend versatility and retro style easily.

The Everyday Carry: This Is Ground Mod 15-Inch Laptop Case, $419.98 —  Want to look sleek and office-ready? Take all of your daily essentials in the This Is Ground Mod Case, a handy, sharp accessory.

When stepping out in something a little bit different from the everyday — in this case, a slim-fit polo shirt worn with the sharp Taylor Stitch Telegraph Jacket  — the key is getting that polo fitted properly from the get-go. That allows you to throw on a tailored jacket and slim chinos. With those pieces in order, you’ll definitely step out in style with the sleek-yet-rugged  Nisolo Calano Oxford. Naturally, other stylish accessories should get some play, too. Although a small detail, I can’t recommend the Arvin Goods No-show Socks enough, and I certainly can’t recommend the Orient Bambino Second Generation enough, either. Oh, and lastly ….retro style inspiration is the way to go when wearing a throwback polo, so something along the lines of  Norton Point Charlie 014 Sunglasses should treat you very nicely. Where are ya going? Don’t leave before securing your everyday carry with the This Is Ground Mod Case. I think that covers all of the bases here — with that being said, I leave it up to you to shop this look, wear this look and quite simply … crush it wearing this look.

Thanks for reading — stay stylish!

#OOTD: The Best Way to Wear a Striped Shirt This Summer

As the summer starts to heat up, there are suitably laidback and versatile ways you can take on the heat — yes, even when it’s sweltering. And it starts with something as simple as your shirt — indeed, the best way to wear a striped shirt is what we’re talking about in today’s #OOTD. Now, “best” is certainly subjective — but your Style Guide fashion department of one absolutely loves the look featured below. Make no mistake — a bold striped shirt was once seen as the ultimate power shirt by business executives, but in 2017, it takes on a decidedly laidback vibe when done up by GANT Rugger (today’s featured shirt, as it were!).

The GANT Rugger Indigo Stripe Oxford Shirt is a casual, cool and smart update, featuring lightweight herringbone cotton, a bold and summer-friendly indigo stripe and easygoing wearability — that’s the case whether you wear it to a weekend barbecue or a day at the office. Ditch the jacket with this look  — it’s OK, trust me.  Chime in with any #menswear thoughts on Twitter, or give me a follow on Instagram for more warm weather style inspiration than you can possibly consume.
Sutro Shoes Inc.

GANT Rugger

A new take on the striped shirt, featuring classic kicks, a sharp watch and essential grooming accessories.

The Shirt: GANT Rugger Indigo Stripe Oxford Shirt, $95 — As mentioned before, this isn’t your dad’s striped shirt. It’s modern, lightweight and head-turning thanks to those bold (yet remarkably wearable) indigo stripes.

The Jeans: Raleigh Denim Jones Denim in Natural Rinse, $185 — One way to instantly shake off any nagging associations of this shirt with stuffy, tailored style? Add in natural denim in pleasing, summer-friendly rinse.

Greats

The Sneakers: SeaVees Hermosa Plimsoll Standard in Slate Navy, $78 — Yet another way to style your striped shirt in a modern manner? Laidback, easygoing plimsoll sneakers from SeaVees are a fine addition — perfect for kicking your feet up and knocking back a cold one.

The Sunglasses: Component Sunglasses C-0201 Sunglasses, $265 — A breezy striped shirt, slim natural denim and vintage-inspired sunglasses? What could be better? Component is a new brand making distinctive shades straight outta Miami, and you’d do well to keep them on your radar.

The Everyday Essential: BYRD Hairdo Products Lightweight Pomade (Two-pack), $28.98 — Want to add some texture to your hair without looking too overdone? The Lightweight Pomade from BYRD Hairdo Products is an easy choice.

The Everyday Essential, Part 2: Triumph & Disaster Gameface Moisturizer, $49.98 —  Even in the summer heat, don’t skip out on a functional men’s moisturizer like the one seen here. It’s another way to keep your skin looking fresh, and that goes for whether you wear this outfit to evening cocktails or a laidback half-day at the office.

Well … that’s it. That’s the best way to wear a striped shirt. OK, I kid — again, it’s not the only way. But teaming a summer-friendly indigo striped shirt with something along the lines of the Jones Denim, what with a breezy natural rinse, is a great way to kick things off right. Sneakers that channel California cool — in this case, the SeaVees Hermosa Plimsoll Standard in Slate Navy  — are another summer style essential. Bear in mind, your accessories game shouldn’t slip, either — slap the Armogan Le Mans Chronograph on your wrist for tailored, crisp and versatile style. Oh, and grooming? Yessir, we’ve got grooming covered — both the Lightweight Pomade and Triumph & Disaster Gameface Moisturizer will keep your face and hair in the best shape possible this summer.

#OOTD: A New Way to Wear Linen Trousers for Summer

By now, you’ve probably realized one crucial thing: The heat is unequivocally here to stay. So, how do you dress to beat the heat and yet still look great? Especially when considering that changing seasons still necessitate your best menswear? Well, that’s what we’re here to help out with today at The Style Guide.  It starts first with looking at the fabrics you’re wearing — particularly on your bottom half. Breathability and comfort are key — as is a tailored, yet mobile, fit. That’s where linen trousers — or in this case, cotton-linen trousers from Style Guide favorites Bridge and Burn — come in handy. Certainly, they should be on your list of summer style essentials. And the same goes for your top half. While four-season staples like a classic Oxford shirt can still feasibly work in the summer, we’re starting things out with a slim short-sleeve shirt today. Lest we let accessories slip, I think you’ll also appreciate the picks we’ve got on-hand here — you might just find your new favorite watch or an essential summer tote bag. With all that being said, I’m looking forward to this #OOTD, and I hope you are, too. Leave any thoughts in the comments, or tell me what you really think of this #menswear ensemble via Twitter. Happy shopping and stay cool out there!

Linen-blend trousers paired up with a head-turning short-sleeved shirt, crisp loafers and a clean watch. A winning combo!

Sutro Shoes Inc.

The Watch: Armogan Spirit of St. Louis Chronograph, $225 — On this blog, we certainly love a crisp, durable watch that works for situations both dressy and casual. Such is the case with the Armogan Spirit of St. Louis Chronograph — the perfect watch for a breezy-yet-dressy summer day.

The Sunglasses: Component Havana Sunglasses in Gunmetal, $285 — Ever heard of Component? If not, know that this brand carries with it some serious sunny pedigree — they’re based out of Miami, and they offer up modern takes on classic silhouettes, like these slick gunmetal shades.

The Everyday Carry: W&P Design Cocktail Tote, $127.98 — Now, just because this thing says “cocktail tote” doesn’t mean you can’t make use of it as part of your everyday carry. It’s durable, it’s handsome and it’s an essential for all of your summer needs — from stylish grooming gear to an extra phone charger. Ya dig?

Greats

And now, we’re closing the curtain on another #OOTD entry. Did this post get you thinking about how to wear linen trousers this summer? Hopefully, it’s a unique look for you — starting out with durable linen-blend trousers is a smart move, and complementing those trousers with a slim short-sleeve shirt from Outerknown is only going to help you stay cool. Classic loafers are among those men’s style essentials every guy should own, as is a classic dress watch — in that regard, I’d highly recommend you pick up the Sebago loafers shown here, along with the Armogan Spirit of St. Louis Chronograph. Don’t sleep on your everyday carry, either — Component sunglasses are not to be overlooked, and the W&P Design Cocktail Tote should function quite nicely at either a summer BBQ or a weekend coffee shop outing. Once again, I hope you’re ready to beat the heat in style.

Thanks for reading — see you out there!

#OOTD: How to Upgrade Your Pocket Tee This Spring

Morning (or afternoon … or evening), folks! Thanks for being with us as we talk how to upgrade your pocket tee this spring. In the men’s style world, never underestimate the importance and utility of a great-fitting T-shirt — especially one that you can wear in a way that’s slightly different from other spring style moves. Once you figure what size works for you, you can use said T-shirt to take on the world in style — particularly as the thermostat climbs. And if you want to switch up your T-shirt game, take a good, hard look at the humble pocket tee. Unlike a standard white tee, it’s got more going for it in terms of versatility and visually interesting looks — the chest pocket draws attention to, well, your chest, for starters. It’s the small details that make a stylish pocket tee suitable to wear on its own or layered up — as you’ll see in today’s #OOTD. We’re mixing a bit of a mononchromatic color palette with a statement-making tee, classic spring sneakers and all of the stylish everyday carry pieces you can get your hands on. It’s the sort of #OOTD you can reliably wear on a weekend coffee date or a spring bar crawl …. or both. What’d ya say? Let’s go to it. For style inspiration all 365 days of the year, follow along on Instagram.

Richer Poorer

A unique take on the pocket tee, accented with classic, spring-friendly style essentials.

The Pocket Tee: Richer Poorer Crew Pocket Tee in Pink, $32 — Think pink isn’t a color that’s made for you? Think again. We’re seeing a lot more of this dusty pink shade across menswear and women’s style, and using it as your base is a significant style upgrade.

The Shirt: Abercrombie and Fitch Two-Pocket Chambray Shirt, $35 — Why are we layering up our pocket tee with a stylish chambray shirt? For one, it’ll help combat any spring and summer breezes. And, number two: If you’re wary of the pink T-shirt, it takes some of the focus of it. Plus, a chambray shirt is a rugged essential for the entire year.

The Denim: Abercombie and Fitch Super Skinny Denim in Light Wash, $59 — Here’s where that monochromatic style we talked about earlier comes into play. This pair of stretch denim blends retro style with comfort — feel free to wear them to your next rock concert, too.
Greats

The Sneakers: SeaVees Hermosa Regatta Sneaker, $88 — We here at The Style Guide absolutely love what’s being done by SeaVees across the board — the Hermosa Regatta Sneaker blends a unique spring color with a light weight and quite a lot of comfort and style.

The Socks: Darn Tough No Show Ultra-Light Cushion Socks, $29.98  — If you’re going to break out classic SeaVees sneakers, some no-show socks are in order — yes? Darn Tough makes some of the best around. Pricey, but comfortable and much-needed.

The Watch: Huckberry Combat B33 GMT Watch, $498.98 — We’ve waxed poetic about the durability and style of the rugged Huckberry Combat B33 GMT Watch, and its simple design makes it ideal for pairing with laidback pieces.

The Sunglasses: Sunski Madronas Sunglasses, $55 — Every so often, you want shades that are simple, stylish and affordable — that’s where the Sunski Madronas sunglasses come in very handy indeed. Yes indeed, these are definitely worth adding to any list of the best men’s sunglasses.

The Ballcap: Huckberry Explorer’s Cap, $39.98 — To keep the sun off your face during interminable hours sipping patio beers, reach for the vintage-inspired, well-made Huckberry Explorer’s Cap.

Beckett Simonon

Looking through the above #OOTD has me positively dreaming of cracking open a cold one on a patio somewhere — hopefully, you’re in the same boat. The key to this outfit revolves around the unexpected pink shade of the pocket tee, plus visually interesting layering via a classic light chambray shirt and slim light wash denim. Of course, it wouldn’t be an #OOTD without stylish spring sneakers — that’s where the Hermosa Regatta Sneaker has you covered.  And in that regard, you’re going to need a tough casual watch to take on spring excursions — that’s what the Huckberry Combat B33 GMT Watch can do for ya. And it’s with two personal favorites of mine that we close out this outfit — there might not be a more stylish ballcap out there than the Huckberry Explorer’s Cap, and for classic, functional spring style, it’s tough to get better than those Sunski Madronas shades. Would you wear your pocket tee in a similar fashion? Leave any feedback over on The Style Guide Facebook page, and join us tomorrow for a new Online Shopping Picks entry.

Stay stylish, my friends!

#OOTD: The Right Way to Wear A Patterned Shirt This Spring

If you’re anything like me, perhaps you’re anxious to shelve your neutral style essentials and inject more interesting, eye-catching color and pattern into your spring #OOTD — all in the name of warmer weather, of course. Well, you’re in luck today, because it’s time we got around to covering how to wear a patterned shirt this spring. Yes, there are some things you should do, and some things you definitely shouldn’t do. Although patterned shirts might call to mind lurid florals and baggy fits — perhaps most commonly found around the community pool — we’re dialing in the fit and the color palette considerably in the below #OOTD. We’re also teaming this stylish short-sleeve shirt with essentials you can wear all spring and summer — pieces like durable suede chukkas and an essential casual watch, for starters. But, we’ll figure out all the specifics below; for now, check out my upcoming #menswear picks and follow along for the topsy-turvy ride on Instagram and Twitter.

Swapping out gaudy florals for a cool patchwork pattern and other seasonal staples.

The Shirt: Life/After/Denim Patchwork Short-Sleeve Shirt, $110 — The piece de resistance of the entire outfit — a neat, very unique indigo patchwork shirt with a retro-style camp collar. Perfect for a or to wear when dressing for a summer festival or heading on a spring bar crawl.

The Jacket: Levi’s Trucker Jacket in Rinse, $89.50 — There might not be a better piece of spring outerwear than a trusty denim jacket from a reputable source like Levi’s — wear this thing as much as you can, and it’ll break in handsomely.

The Pants: Devereux Ford Five-Pocket Pants, $138 — If you find white denim a bit intimidating,  why not reach for an off-white pair of 5-pocket pants? These mimic the tailoring of a chino with a cotton-spandex blend that’s more familiar.

Beckett Simonon

The Chukka Boots: Astorflex Greenflex in Dark Khaki, $145 — With their classic silhouette and handsome shade of dark khaki suede, it’s easy to mistake the Astorflex Greenflex in Dark Khaki for something a menswear icon like Steve McQueen might’ve worn — and that’s a very good part about this #OOTD.

The Socks: Teva Benny Gold Socks (Limited Edition), $12 — In an outfit packed with various shades of dark blue, it’s nice to inject a bit of lighter blue. Enter the limited edition, exceedingly comfortable Teva Benny Gold Socks.Sutro Shoes Inc.

The Belt: Arcade Belt Co.  Crawford Belt in Olive Green, $25 — For a mix of comfort and casual style, reach for a mixed-media Arcade Belt Co. belt with stretch — it’s an easy way to loosen up after a few bar crawl beers, ehh?

The Watch: Timex + Todd Snyder Military Watch, $138 — If you don’t have this timepiece on your wrist yet, you’re missing out. I took mine on a spring road trip to Pittsburgh and found it highly versatile — I’d imagine you’ll feel the same!

The Everyday Carry: This Is Ground Mod 15″ Laptop Carrier, $499.98 — For all those times you find yourself fumbling with cords and cables, there’s gear from This Is Ground. A functional, minimal and effective piece like the Mod Laptop Carrier should save you a heck of a lot of trouble.

Greats

For all of the pattern and color on the above Life/After/Denim patchwork shirt, it really is quite easily wearable (that’s thanks to the deep indigo base). When you pair it with easygoing spring staples like off-white pants and the Astorflex Greenflex in Dark Khaki, it’s wearable for casual situations and perhaps even a laidback office Friday.  You can — and should — use your accessories to reinforce the laidback nature of this patterned shirt; that’s where an Arcade Belt Co. belt can come into play. Don’t leave behind your everyday carry — I’m a big fan of the Timex + Todd Snyder Military Watch for its durability and versatility. Plus, the Mod Laptop Carrier is going to be a very effective way to travel efficiently and stylishly. So, there you have it. If you’ve got questions about styling a short-sleeve shirt or everyday menswear essentials, shoot me an email and I’ll get back to you — promise!

For now — stay stylish,

#OOTD: How to Wear Your New Favorite Chinos This Spring

Am I the only one, or does it still feel odd to be talking about dressing for spring? Maybe it’s because of the frigid weather that swept through NYC a few weeks ago … and yet, here we with another spring style #OOTD on your favorite #menswear blog. It is your favorite, right? Good answer. At any rate, today’s look is taking a year-round staple — that would be the versatile, stylish slim chino — and bringing it out of the depths of winter and into slightly more temperate spring conditions. The great thing about a go-anywhere pair of chinos is that you can wear them just as easily here in early spring as you can through the summer, fall and winter. It’s a matter of layering up the right way — and subtracting layers as it gets warmer — but today’s outfit should give you the building blocks for transitional spring style. As you’ll see, we’re starting with everyday classics like your go-to Oxford shirt and a tough utility jacket, and we’re finishing the look off with a refined leather watch and … well, I don’t want to give too much away. You can view the full outfit below, and I’d suggest you follow me on Twitter for more random (but useful!) style content each and every day.

Finisterre

Pairing slim chinos with a military-inspired jacket and other excellent everyday staples.

The Chinos: Finisterre Coverack Chinos, $74.98 — At first glance, these chinos might look a bit different than pairs you’re used to — that’s because they’re coming from a brand that makes gear both nautical-inspired and ready for transitional weather. With a classic-yet-tailored straight leg and peached fabric, the Coverack Chino  is sharp and easygoing.

The Jacket: Bridge and Burn Northfork Woodland Jacket, $198 — So, we’re pairing dark khaki chinos with an olive jacket. That puts this look in the same color family, but don’t be afraid to try it out every now and again — especially if it involves the durable, sharp Woodland Jacket seen here.

The Shirt: Grayers Jaspe Double Cloth Shirt, $98 — Need I say more here? A classic Oxford, especially one like the Grayers Jaspe Double Cloth Shirt, nicely offsets the dark khaki and olive tones of this outfit.

The Boots: Beckett Simonon Laval Suede Chukka Boots in Chestnut,$199 — In terms of underrated footwear brands, Beckett Simonon has gotta be up there. Good news is, you can pre-order these handsome, water-resistant suede chukka boots and wear them whenever it gets wet outside.

The Belt: Abercrombie & Fitch Woven Leather Belt, $44 — From highlights like the Abercrombie & Fitch Chamois Shirt to small — but well-made — accessories, this is a brand getting things right for guys like you and me … so, buy this casual belt!

The Watch: Jack Mason Aviator Chronograph, $275 — If there’s one watch brand you might not know — but need to know — it’s Jack Mason.  The brand is making well-designed, tough-yet-refined watches, and the Aviator Chronograph is among them.

The Everyday Carry: This Is Ground Leatherback Writer 3, $84.98 — Just when you thought you had your everyday carry all sorted out, along comes the crisply designed Leatherback Writer 3, with plenty of space for your daily essentials.

The Umbrella: Blunt Umbrellas Classic Umbrella, $64.98 — Spring rain is certainly in the forecast, and it’ll definitely pay off to have a functional, subtly stylish umbrella with you when it rolls through.

Frank & Oak

If even the above #OOTD didn’t quite get you in the spring spirit, rest assured … we’ll get there. And with easy-to-wear, versatile pants like the Finisterre Coverack Chinos in your rotation, things are only going to get better (and more stylish) in the season ahead. It’s crucial to realize you can wear the Coverack Chinos with ease alongside other four-season essentials, like the Grayers Jaspe Double Cloth Shirt. And when you layer up with a rugged, durable piece of outerwear like the Bridge and Burn utility jacket shown above, your goal of meeting transitional weather in style is, well, accomplished. However, figuring out the main part of your outfit leaves little room to slack off, lest we forget. Grab a tough-yet-stylish watch like the Aviator Chronograph and round out that everyday carry with a handy piece like the Leatherback Writer 3 — all good suggestions, agreed? Sure hope so.

If you’ve got any questions or suggestions on this ensemble, drop me a line on Facebook or chime in via the comments — good luck getting ready for spring!

#OOTD: The Best Way to Dress on St. Patrick’s Day This Year

OK, folks — let’s belly up to the bar, grab a Guinness… wait a second. No no no,  wait … what is that you’re wearing? C’mon, man. No shamrock suits today. All joking aside, today’s #OOTD should  (hopefully) be quite helpful, as we’re tackling the best men’s style gear to wear on St. Patrick’s Day — and we’re doing it relatively affordably and quite stylishly (if I do say so myself). St. Patrick’s Day — St. Paddy’s Day, to all of us AP Style nitpickers — is a day that might’ve once meant skipping class for a few celebratory pints … if that’s still the case, let’s trade spots. Now though, you might find yourself at the office and then hopping around for a Black-and-Tan or two. As always, the key question is … what to wear? Specifically, how to dress in business casual style that’s still comfortable and situationally appropriate? Lucky for ya, ye Style Guide reader, you’ve got the luck of the Irish on your side and … ahh, who am I kidding. Let’s get to the #menswear, shall we? Follow along on Instagram and Twitter for all the style news & musings you can handle, and let me know how you feel about this #OOTD in the comments.

A touch of green, a rugged cardigan and casual denim. All solid holiday picks.

A touch of green, a rugged cardigan and casual denim. All solid holiday picks.

The Shirt: Abercrombie & Fitch Garment-Dye Oxford Shirt, $39 — Here’s the focal point of your outfit, a nice way to show people you’re rocking some green — and an even better shirt to have with you for that spring bar crawl

The Cardigan: Iron & Resin Fletcher Cardigan, $110.98 — While you could also layer up with a piece like the Todd Snyder x Champion Pocket Sweatshirt, the Fletcher Cardigan offers similar comfort and visual interest.

The Denim: Nudie Jeans Lean Dean, $200 — Between the one percent stretch, the tailored-yet-comfortable fit and the casual rinsed wash, the Lean Dean is a nice pair of easygoing denim for a day that demands it.

The Boots: JackThreads Mac Desert Chukka, $49.98 — I haven’t tested these shoes out myself, but I’d wager they’ll be just the right blend of casual and comfortable. And hey, you get nice quality for a standout price.
Frank & Oak

The Belt: Abercrombie & Fitch Woven Leather Belt, $44 — Between the casual suede chukkas and the laidback Nudie Jeans Lean Dean denim, a textured belt is just the way to go.

The Watch: Jack Mason Aviator 3-Hand Watch, $205 — While you could reach for a casual NATO strap watch like the Timex x Todd Snyder Mod Watch, the Jack Mason Aviator 3-Hand Watch is both durable and handsome.

The Everyday Carry: Scout Hook Keychain Bottle Opener, $60 — Part bottle opener, part keychain and just the handy accessory you need for a St. Paddy’s Day party. Hey, you won’t lose a bottle opener or your keys.

The Must-Have: Bellroy The Phone Wallet (iPhone 7), $89.95 — Even if you’re not blessed with an iPhone 7, accessories from Bellroy  should handsomely round out your St. Patrick’s Day. Plus, the Phone Wallet protects from all sorts of damage (spilled beer, anyone?).

It’s critical to keep in mind that you don’t want to go overboard on St. Patrick’s Day — that is, in matters of dress or matters of Guiness consumption. Working just a touch of green into your outfit is a solid way to nod to the day, yet a layering piece like the Iron & Resin Fletcher Cardigan helps offset it stylishly and casually. For the warmer spring months, it’s also a great move to have casual-yet-essential light wash denim like the Nudie Jeans Lean Dean in your rotation. Suede chukkas keep the outfit squarely in casual territory, and a durable watch like the Jack Mason Aviator 3-Hand is a go-anywhere essential. Rounding out your everyday carry with functionality and toughness in mind is also critical — enter the Scout Hook Keychain Bottle Opener and the Bellroy Phone Wallet. Lastly — enjoy the day in style, pick up the menswear you need for the occasion, and raise a glass for me!

Cheers,

-Beau
