See Now, Buy Now: Invest in the Best with the Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket

A stunning, extraordinary jacket from a brand that always delivers.

If you’re on the hunt for a stylish leather jacket, you might as well just really go for it — right? Such is the case with the Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket, an extraordinary piece of outerwear from the Style Guide favorites at Taylor Stitch. It’s gotta be among the best men’s leather jackets, that much I’m sure of. The Moto Jacket has been done by the brand before — as far back as 2015 — but the new Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket, specifically in Tobacco Weatherproof Suede, is a thing of beauty. And in my estimation, that’s exactly why we’re coming at you with a special Monday edition of our See Now, Buy Now series. Here’s the catch — the Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket is only available for pre-order at the moment, so there’s some waiting involved. But when it finally hits your doorstep? My oh my, I think you’ll be mighty pleased with the latest rendition of the Moto Jacket. Part of the brand’s Moto Collection, the Moto Jacket is pre-funding for a limited time only, and it’s not hard to see why it’s such a fan favorite.

The brand worked with the master outerwear purveyors at Golden Bear to turn a decades-old silhouette into a seriously stylish modern iteration. Put it simply: The Moto Jacket is absolutely drool-worthy (and actually quite the steal at the pre-funding price of $875). Made from Italian suede finished with a DWR treatment, it’s the rare suede jacket that’s waterproof. That’s a positive, because the Moto Jacket should become a go-to for all of your favorite menswear essentials, from a slim Taylor Stitch henley to a chambray shirt to a classic Oxford and a wool tie. In short, the Taylor Stitch Moto Jacket is going to make each and every ensemble you throw on even better (short of dressing for a black tie gala, that is). And the details, from the zig-zag stitched reinforced collar to the cotton flannel-lined pockets to the antique brass zipper, are as good as you’re going to find. So, let’s salute Taylor Stitch for the Moto Jacket … and then let’s get that pre-order taken care of, right?

Happ Monday, my friends — happy shopping!

Online Shopping Picks: These Are the Best Men’s Jackets for Fall

These are heady times we live in — busy times, too. If you’ve followed along with our Online Shopping Picks series on The Style Guide, you know that we’re all about getting you prepped for rugged fall style. And that continues today, in a big way. Putting together a rugged fall #menswear look is about the details — the big categories and the small ones, too. And in the way of essential men’s style for fall,  outerwear is a pretty big category. So, we’ll get you shopping and thinking today. The best men’s jackets for fall feature durable construction, essential warmth and pleasingly rugged-yet-versatile style — that combination is going to take you a lot of places.

Some of the below picks, like the tough Taylor Stitch Bomber Jacket seen below, can work in both casual and tailored situations (try it with an American-made Oxford and a knit tie). And others — like the Bridge and Burn Thielsen Jacket — fit right in with the rugged climes of fall. Regardless, this list of rugged fall jackets should have you set for the season. For more #menswear than you can shake a stick at, follow me on Twitter or Instagram. Enjoy fall — soon enough, anyways!

#1. Taylor Stitch Albion Jacket — $265

A rugged and versatile piece that’s ideal for layering.

Yes indeed, ladies and gentlemen … the Taylor Stitch Albion Jacket tops our list, and with good reason. It’s the perfect transitional jacket to wear during early fall and on through November. Made from a custom-developed two-way stretch windshell nylon fabric, the Albion Jacket is a positively versatile layering piece. It’s even lined in fleece and is water-resistant — it’s a stylish fall jacket for layering over a rugged striped henley and teaming with classic dark denim.

#2. Abercrombie and Fitch Shera-Lined Corduroy Jacket — $160

A cozy jacket that evokes classic, timeless fall style.

Abercrombie and Fitch — a Style Guide favorite — continues to come roaring back season after season, and the Sherpa-Lined Curdory Jacket is a prime example of that. It evokes the kind of classic fall jacket that your dad or grandpa might have worn to do yard work, except this number features a slimmed-down fit and just as much warmth — plus added style points. Again, a slim striped henley and suede chukka boots are ideal companions.

#2. Flint and Tinder Stretch Denim Trucker Jacket — $158

Flint and Tinder

This piece could very well be your new favorite denim jacket — agreed? Agreed.

Originally part of our See Now, Buy Now series, the Flint and Tinder Stretch Denim Trucker Jacket should be welcomed to this list with open arms. At least, I think so. Everyone needs a stylish denim jacket in their layering arsenal — the Flint and Tinder Stretch Denim Trucker features a crisp indigo color and the type of easygoing wearability that looks great with slim tan chinos and a white chambray shirt or a slim striped henley.

#3. Bridge and Burn Thielsen Jacket — $238

A fall-ready color and durable cotton construction set this jacket apart.

If you’ve read our Style Guide Q+A with Portland lifestyle brand Bridge and Burn, you know they’re dedicated to making classic, straightforward pieces with a touch of Northwest style influence. And in this case, the Bridge and Burn Thielsen Jacket channels the kind of rugged durability you need this fall, and tosses in a healthy dose of style, too. The hard-wearing cotton outer and quilted liner of the Thielsen Jacket provide protection from the elements, while the rich Acorn color is a fall-ready shade. Who’s ready to hit the pumpkin patch, people?

#4.  BANKS Tombstone Jacket — $130

BANKS Tombstone Jacket

Another warm, classic and durablly made piece of outerwear for the season.

The rugged fall style just keeps coming in spades with the BANKS Tombstone Jacket. A unique brand available via the great folks at Bespoke Post, the Tombstone Jacket channels classic style with a modern edge. Which is to say, the faded blue cotton exterior plays nicely off the golden sherpa collar, while the lined warmer pockets ensure you stay warm even at long, chilly tailgates. So, throw on the Tombstone Jacket and pass me a beer, will ya?

#6. Taylor Stitch Long Haul Jacket in Cone Mills Selvage — $188

Taylor Stitch

A handsome denim jacket that’ll only get better with age.

Another jacket from Taylor Stitch on our list of the best men’s fall jackets? Yes indeed, you bet. The Long Haul Jacket is a much-loved silhouette from the brand, harnessing a slick, slim design with the power of Cone Mills denim. That’s right — Taylor Stitch teamed up with the country’s foremost denim mill on a rugged denim jacket that you can wear now over a chambray shirt and wear later over a stylish crewneck sweater. And that’s just the beginning, I’d wager.

#7. Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket — $148

A faded shirt jacket that layers with darn near anything in your closet — a job well-done by Taylor Stitch.

Hey, might as well round out this list with more rugged menswear from Taylor Stitch, yeah? The Maritime Shirt Jacket made an appearance in our #OOTD series earlier this year — specifically when it comes to how to wear a rugged overshirt — and it’s guaranteed to impress. The Maritime Shirt Jacket features a cool sun-bleached finish, sturdy construction and the type of fit that works with slim chinos and wingtip boots or black denim in equal measure.

#8.  Finisterre Petrichor Overshirt — $76.98

A durable, rugged silhouette with the strong fabrication to match.

Why exactly are we included an overshirt on this list of fall’s best jackets? Well, my friends — anything goes when it comes to stylish fall layering, and the construction and style of the Petrichor Overshirt is such that it can serve as both if needed. It’s an affordable stylish chore jacket that doubles as overshirt, and the densely woven cotton and cool khaki color make for a heck of a durable piece — so, sold on the Petrichor Overshirt yet?

Alright, friends — what’s your favorite pick of the above? Will it be the rugged versatility of the sturdy cotton Petrichor Overshirt or the sun-bleached cool of the Maritime Shirt Jacket? Is it perhaps the classically styled BANKS Tombstone Jacket or the rough-and-rugged  Long Haul Jacket? Yes indeed, from sherpa-collar corduroy jackets from Abercrombie and Fitch to a durable cotton number like the Bridge and Burn Thielsen Jacket, I hope you found this list helpful. It’s about finding the right fabrication and the silhouette that works for — because believe it or not, I’m sure once you try one of these rugged fall jackets, you’ll want to wear it as much as you can.

How’d we do with today’s post? What do you think of the above picks? Feel free to drop a note in the comments below, or hit me up on Twitter!

You’ve seen it before as a layering option when it comes to how to wear a rugged overshirt this season — if you read this site on the regular, that is. Simply named, carefully constructed, durable and uniquely stylish, it’s certainly got the potential to be a favorite layering piece this season. and it’s surely one of the best men’s fall jackets — even if it’s technically part shirt, part jacket. What’s the secret that makes the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket such a winner? It’s definitely got plenty going for it. For one, this Taylor Stitch shirt jacket is am affordable steal when it comes to rugged fall layering.

A handsome sun-bleached indigo finish makes it ready to pair with dark blue or black denim alike, and the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket can also layer easily over other essential fall pieces (dare I say it — a Taylor Stitch striped henley). In short, it’s the perfect casual jacket for fall when it comes time to grab and go, whether your weekend takes you to a football tailgate, a day hike, a bar crawl or a bonfire. Taylor Stitch developed and crafted this bad boy from garment-washed indigo cotton in California — so if it can stand up to breezy, chilly San Francisco days on the water, it can stand up to your own fall pursuits. I’d recommend you wear the Maritime Shirt Jacket with everything from a rugged striped henley and your favorite pair of dark denim to a classic Oxford and tan chinos on a casual Friday. And when the time comes to head to the pub on the weekend? The Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket is going to work quite nicely for understated, well-designed style. Who’s ready for that first chilly day of fall? I sure am — and you know Taylor Stitch will have you prepared.

#OOTD: How to Wear a Rugged Overshirt This Fall

This week’s #OOTD fun on The Style Guide continues in fine fashion — or should I say, fall fashion? That’s right — we’re truly starting to get into rugged fall style on the blog, from the menswear to wear on a fall trip to today’s focus: How to wear a rugged overshirt this season.  The overshirt — particular a stylish Taylor Stitch overshirt as featured today — is as versatile a #menswear layering weapon as you’ve got in your fall style arsenal. Namely, it can function as both a shirt … and a jacket. For those days and nights when it’s not cold enough for a heavier top layer, an overshirt can pull double duty. Feel free to layer it over a slim striped henley or toss it on over another shirt — say, an American-made Oxford. Made with the right fabric (like the Japanese selvedge cotton found on the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket seen here), it’s going to provide warmth from the chill and earn you major style points at the same time. You’ll notice some other fall style touches, including stylish (yet tough!) Danner hiking boots and a classic field watch. This look is casual enough to fit in at an outdoor concert, it’s durable and rugged enough to wear to a fall tailgate … basically, a rugged overshirt is your ticket to versatile, casual style this season. Want more style tips? Follow me on Instagram. And let me know what you think of the below #OOTD in the comments below!

Rugged fall style

Classically rugged fall style — essential for a tailgate, a bonfire or a day trip. Gotta love the rugged Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket as seen here.

The Overshirt: Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket in Sea Washed Indigo, $118  (When Signing Up for Bespoke Post— Ahh yes, the well-made, well-crafted and exceptionally stylish rugged overshirt we discussed earlier.  This Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket features selvedge detailing and a modern fit.

The Henley: Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Henley, $125 — What are you layering under your Taylor Stitch overshirt? A rugged Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Henley, of course. The stripes add visual interest, and the merino wool adds breathability and classic fall style.

The Denim: DSTLD Slim Jeans in Charcoal Overdye, $85 — You could certainly throw on a pair of classic dark denim for monochromatic style, but these slim charcoal jeans from direct-to-consumer Los Angeles brand DSTLD offer a neat contrast in terms of color and texture.

The Boots:  Danner Vertigo 917 Boots, $220 — Now, you could easily swap in a pair of stylish leather sneakers here, yet these hybrid hiking boots from Danner convey both rugged style and functionality — a wise bet if you end up on your feet for longer than expected (perhaps an Octoberfest bar crawl, ehh?).

The Belt: Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt in Chestnut, $80 — We always say that the little details make the difference here at The Style Guide, and this tough leather belt from Sturdy Brothers gets those details right.

The Socks: Arvin Goods Crew Socks (Three-pack) — $24 — If you read this blog regularly, you recognize the name Arvin Goods — the brand makes functional, understated socks at a great price. These affordable crew socks should team nicely with your Danner hiking boots.
The Watch: Momentum Watches Flatline 42 Fabric Watch, $164.98 — When your outfit is filled with adventure-ready pieces, it makes sense to grab a classic field watch. The Flatine 42 Fabric Watch from Momentum Watches gives you the durability and style you need.
The Fall Essential: Knight Co. Complete Moisturizer, $24 — Don’t overlook the importance of keeping your grooming game tuned up through the fall months — especially as colder weather descends. The Knight Co. Complete Moisturizer should prove both premium and quite helpful with that goal.

As October approaches and crisp weather rolls into town, I’d say you surely need a rugged layering piece with plenty of potential — the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket is going to be your ticket to essential fall style. From craft beer festivals to weekend coffee trips and perhaps a stylish fall weekend trip, there’s little that the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket can’t do. Particularly when layered up with a rugged striped henley — also from Taylor Stitch — you’re going to be set for fall weekends aplenty. Charcoal denim from DSTLD is a nice way to mix things up visually, while the Danner Vertigo 917 Boots offer both comfort and durability for all-day style. And with its subtly fashionable design and tough construction, the Flatine 42 Fabric Watch is the ideal casual men’s watch to offset this ensemble. Of course, no outfit is complete without taking care of your men’s grooming essentials — who else needs that Knight Co. moisturizer in their medicine cabinet? At any rate, I hope this #OOTD gets you thinking when it comes to rugged fall style. Who’s ready for the season? I sure am!

Thanks for reading and cheers,

Fall 2017 Men’s Style Wish List

Today marks a post that I always look forward to here at The Style Guide — a look toward a new season, the start of the best time in menswear …. our annual Fall Style Wish List. If you can believe it, this is a tradition that dates all the way back to 2014 … pretty wild, ehh?  And the good news is, we’re back this year with a list of men’s style essentials that’s even bigger and better than ever. Fall ties together so many things that make #menswear great, from the opportunity to pile on added layers to the chance to step out in rugged gear at nearly all times. So, stylish wingtip boots, a rugged striped henley and dark blue denim all join our wardrobe rotations yet again.  Trust me, this is the gear to buy for the  season.  And plenty of brands are harkening back toward classic styles while updating them with modern fits and fabrics. That means we’ve got plenty of rugged style essentials to cover in our Fall 2017 Style Wish List. Without further ado … stow your beach gear, put away those flip-flops and load up on the best menswear for the fall season. We’re ranking these picks in no particular order, so you can chime in with your favorites on Twitter or follow along as I style some of my top seasonal picks on Instagram.  We’ll see you out there!

Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Henley — $98 (When Signing Up for Bespoke Post)
Taylor Stitch

The rugged fall layer your closet needs now — courtesy of Taylor Stitch, naturally.

If you follow along with our Style Pick of the Week series, you recognize this stylish, well-crafted Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Henley. Made from premium fabric that’s at once hearty and breathable, this slim striped henley could be one of the more versatile pieces you pick up this fall. It layers with ease under a chambray shirt, it works quite well underneath a black moto jacket and it looks casual and rugged all on its own. Taylor Stitch does it again.

Mark Albert Classic Chelsea Boot — $225
Mark Albert Chelsea boots

Supremely well-crafted and more than ready for fall.

Stylish leather Chelsea boots have turned into a must-have every season of the wear, darn near. But there’s something about the Mark Albert Classic Chelsea Boot that makes it seem particularly ready for fall. From the rugged, rich brown leather to the tough construction and the ability to pair up with rugged seasonal staples with ease, I’d say these Mark Albert Chelsea boots are a tremendous bet on the footwear front.

Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket — $148
Taylor Stitch

A stunning shirt jacket from Taylor Stitch that’s going to look the part when it comes to fall excursions.

Let’s add another item from Taylor Stitch to this fall style wish list, ehh?  When it comes to rugged fall layering, you need more than just a striped henley — you need something that’s well-crafted, versatile and eye-catching … in the best way possible. That’s where the Maritime Shirt Jacket comes into play — it’s going to look right at home with slim dark denim and your favorite pair of brown leather boots.

Roark Revival HWY 41 Denim Jacket — $79.98
Roark Reviva

A jacket that exudes timeless style and more than a bit of rock n’roll cool.

Want a stylish denim jacket that’s anything but ordinary? Then you’re going to want the Roark Revival HWY 41 Denim Jacket, a silhouette that’s at once edgy and yet just a bit classic. It’s the kind of jacket that could easily be worn cruising down the highway on a motorcycle — right? And yet, even if you don’t own a chopper …. there’s something cool and fall-ready about this rugged denim jacket.

Taylor Stitch Slim Jean in Cone Mills Standard — $69 (When Signing Up for Bespoke Post)
Taylor Stitch denim

The ideal way to complement the rest of your Taylor Stitch gear — agreed?

OK, so we’re not quite done with Taylor Stitch menswear in this list yet.  If you’ve already stocked up with a slim striped henley and a rugged shirt jacket, what better way to finish off your ensemble than with a pair of classic dark blue denim? Did I mention they’re made in America and available for under $7o — yes, $70 — when you sign up for Bespoke Post? There you go.
Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT Watch — $498
Huckberry x Lum-Tec

Just the sturdy, durable timepiece you need on your wrist this fall.

When I think fall style, I certainly think of rugged, tough menswear staples — and your watch shouldn’t be an exception to that trend. The Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT Watch is a beastly timepiece that doesn’t mess around — it’s a durable watch stands up visually (and physically) to other hearty menswear pieces. I’m thinking the Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT would pair well with the legendary Taylor Stitch Rover Jacket and perhaps those slim Cone Mills denim jeans as seen above.

Original Penguin Pigment Overprint Shirt — $89

Original Penguin

A uniquely colored, richly textured shirt for fall layering.

Fall calls for darker, richer colors, just as it calls for heartier and more rugged textures. This Original Penguin overprint shirt brings in a little bit of both. The pigmented denim-type texture and rich color (Pomegranate, to be specific) give it some weight and visual interest — it’s the perfect pairing with grey selvedge denim and sharp black Chelsea boots.

Flint and Tinder 10-Year Pullover — $89

A decidedly stylish hooded sweatshirt upgrade.

Plenty of gear from Flint and Tinder regularly makes the pages of this site — and for good reason. The brand crafts its staple pieces — like the Flint and Tinder 10-Year Collection of stylish hoodies — in America, and with plenty of attention to detail.  The 10-Year Pullover in particular would be a fine addition to any lineup of men’s style staples; it’s the sort of sweatshirt that you can even wear over a classic Oxford shirt this fall without missing a beat.

Bradley Mountain Rambler Duffle in Brush Brown — $279

A rough-and-tumble bag that’s ready for any fall adventure you can dream up.

Our fall style wish list is about more than clothes, mark my words. Case in point: The stylish weekender bag you need to bring with you on fall adventures aplenty. The Rambler Duffle is aptly named and aptly constructed; it’s the perfect size for a weekend away, with enough room for you to pack your other favorites from this list (the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket, anyone?).
Hudson Shoes Corelli Suede Dip Dye Boots — $198 (When Signing up for Bespoke Post)

Textured, rugged suede chukka boots fit right in with the cooler climes of fall.

Did we save the best for last? Well, I personally love the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket, so I can’t be sure. But I’m certainly sure of the fact that the Corelli Suede Dip Dye Boots are a heck of a fall style pick-up thanks to the seasonally ready color and texture. Plus, the slim-yet-substantial profile if these Hudson Shoes boots teams well with slim Cone Mills denim or dark black denim in equal measure — just add that Taylor Stitch merino henley we discussed earlier, and you’re good to go.

Alright, Style Guide readers — did you stick with us until the end? Which of the above picks did you most gravitate toward? I certainly can’t get enough of rugged suede chukkas like the Hudson Shoes Corelli Suede Dip Dye Boots, and it’s really tough to top something as essential as the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket … but that’s just one man’s opinion! What do you think? Weigh in via the comments below or at the Style Guide’s Facebook page!

Among #menswear picks you see pop up consistently on this site, the Huckberry Explorer’s Cap might top that list. Maybe it’s the fact that these vintage-inspired ballcaps are so well-made and subtly stylish, yet it’s the perfect spring and summer … and fall … and winter accessory to me. When you want to keep the sun off your face this Labor Day weekend, there’s not a better ballcap out there to grab.
The Essential: Orange Vessel Co. Stoneware Growler — $69.98
Stoneware Vessel Co.

Perhaps the best way to transport your favorite beer — and keep it fresh and flowing at your destination.

Now, is beer a “must-have” essential in the way that the Huckberry Explorer’s Cap or a Taylor Stitch shirt-jacket might be? Surely not. And if you’re hopping on a plane this Labor Day weekend, well, this Orange Vessel Co. growler will have to stay behind. But if you’re making the trek to a friend’s house and can spare some room in your ride? This durable growler can more than handily help you transport your favorite craft beer.
Gifts for the Host: Brooklyn Slate Company Slate Coasters — $27 AND Spiegelau IPA Glasses, Set of Four — $32
Spiegelau

Two gifts that pair nicely with one another — oh, and great beer.

Yet again, let’s keep in mind a golden rule of travel: Always bring a gift for the host. Or in this case, gifts. And hey, there’s some beer in the mix again! Brooklyn Slate Company makes a coaster that’s, dare I say it … stylish and rugged. And Spiegelau crafts some of the more unique glassware in the beer world — bring along the Orange Vessel Co. growler and fill it with your favorite IPA. Those IPA glasses will do the rest of the work.

Ready for some fun in the sun — and a few choice brews — this Labor Day? I know I am. And I hope you’ll be packing and wearing the best men’s summer gear for the occasion. I can’t recommend easily wearable pieces like an American-made T-shirt and a rugged Taylor Stitch shirt-jacket enough — from the beach to the bonfire, both layers absolutely work. Accessories like the Huckberry Explorer’s Cap are definitely critical, as is a rugged casual watch and the right weekender bag. It’s also critical to remember stylish shorts, and luckily for the both of us, the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shorts fit the bill nicely. Packing up men’s grooming essentials is pretty critical when it comes to staying fresh — let the Harry’s Essential Travel Shave Kit do the work for ya. I’d definitely be remiss if I didn’t remind you to bring along stylish sunglasses (preferably something retro-inspired like the Steven Alan Bristol Sunglasses). Lastly, don’t leave home without your favorite brew — the Orange Vessel Co. growler helps check that box. How will you be dressing for Labor Day? And what do you think of the above picks?  Let me know via The Style Guide Facebook page!

Layer right on up with a stylish shirt-jacket, a classic Oxford and other staples ready for travel or play.

The Top Layer: Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket, $148 — Seeing as chillier temperatures are approaching, it’s a wise bet to outfit yourself with a rugged shirt-jacket that slips on and off with ease — Taylor Stitch makes one of the best out there.

The Oxford: Flint and Tinder Texas-Made Oxford, $89 — If there’s one workhorse you need in your bag for a weekend trip, it’s  a classic Oxford shirt. Try this charcoal Oxford from Flint and Tinder — it’ll play nicely off the Taylor Stitch shirt-jacket, and it’s made in America.

The Chinos: Banana Republic Aiden Slim Rapid Movement Chino, $98 — A relatively recent offering from a brand that specializes in versatile gear for the modern man, these stretch chinos are perfect for a day of travel.

The Briefs: Bread and Boxers Boxer Briefs in Black, $18 — Comfort and simple looks are two qualities you should always keep top of mind when packing (and wearing) briefs — Bread and Boxers will sort you out nicely.

The Watch: Timex Waterbury in Red Wing Leather, $139 — Just as with your classic Oxford, there’s one other essential you’re going to want to keep handy, and that’s the ever-stylish Timex Red Wing Waterbury. Durable, tough and sharp.

The Weekender: Bradley Mountain Utility Bag in Brush Brown, $159 — Sized just right for a few nights away, this handsome, rugged and stylish weekender bag from Bradley Mountain should be your next luggage purchase.

The Wallet: Herschel Supply Co. Raynor Passport Wallet in Nubuck, $49.99 — Even if you’re not heading overseas, having a useful, utilitarian-yet-stylish passport wallet like this one from Herschel Supply is a solid way to round out your everyday carry.

Well, do you think we packed enough essentials for your trip? Starting with a durable pair of leather chukka boots and a stylish weekender bag only sets you up for success — and layering accordingly keeps you traveling in style, too. I can’t say enough about the rugged versatility of the Taylor Stitch Maritime Shirt Jacket — it’s seriously perfect for chilly evenings and day trips alike. And we’d be remiss if we left out a classic Oxford like the one seen above from Flint and Tinder, another remarkably wearable addition to your travel gear. Well-considered details like Anonymousism patterned socks are also the name of the game, and the Red Wing Waterbury from Timex is a watch that could feasibly never leave your wrist throughout the trip. Style Pick of the Week: Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Henley

Taylor Stitch merino henley

Just the right amount of heft and texture for rugged fall style.

Folks. if you needed one more reason to shop Taylor Stitch, our latest Style Pick provides plenty of reasons — seriously, plenty.  It’s no secret that your author, editor and creative director (ha!) at The Style Guide loves the brand for its use of quality fabrics, classic silhouettes and rugged, timeless appeal — that’s no more true than with the Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Henley, available for 30 percent off right now during the standout Bespoke Post Summer Sale. Not a bad deal, ehh? And what do you get for your hard-earned dollars? Plenty. Consider your search for one of the best men’s henleys over before it starts — if you buy this guy, that is. The Mercerized Merino Henley‘s success starts with, well, the 5oz. mercerized merino wool, a key point of difference compared to, say, cotton henleys. That construction makes it heavy enough to provide some texture and  protection from late summer and early fall breezes. Of course, it’s also light enough to layer under a cotton field jacket or a rugged denim jacket in equal measure. That’s about par for the course when it comes to Taylor Stitch, and that’s as good as it gets. And in terms of styling potential, the Mercerized Henley is loaded with it. If you were looking for how to wear a rugged henley, I’d say this piece gives you plenty of options — just in time for fall, too. Clearly, Bespoke Post knows what’s up — agreed?

Taylor Stitch

Merccerized merino wool and a nicely made placket are but a few benefits of buying this Taylor Stitch henley.

It gets even better. With gear from Taylor Stitch, you can team any piece with practically anything else in your wardrobe. The brand’s Everyday Chambray Shirt would be am ideal layering piece atop the Mercerized Merino Henley, as would the tough, durable and fall-ready Taylor Stitch Rover Jacket.  And pieces like a stylish waxed trucker jacket offer a similarly easy-to-wear styling potential. Just throw on this henley with slim, American-made denim and your favorite pair of leather boots, and you’re set. Heck, the three-button placket even helps it stand out nicely against a crisp herringbone blazer or underneath an American-made Oxford. And the great thing about a slim striped henley is the simple fact that it broadens your chest and shoulders  when worn on its own — a styling trick that’s no more at ease than when you want rugged fall looks.  Oh, and the real kicker is that you can snag it for just $98 when signing up for Bespoke Post (versus $125 normally). That’s a heck of a deal, yeah? Yes indeed. If you’re not excited for fall after reading this, I don’t know what to tell ya. The last word is that, simply, the Taylor Stitch Mercerized Merino Henley is an essential men’s style move  — even if it’s not quite fall yet.

Style Suggestion: How to Wear Dark Blue Denim This Summer

Settle in and stay for a bit – we’re talking classic style, and more specifically, how to wear dark blue denim this summer in a special Tuesday edition of our Style Suggestion series (we’ll be back with our regularly scheduled Tuesday #OOTD post next week). Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Beau, do we really need to be wearing dark denim in the summer? It’s hot out!” Well … you’re right about that. But as with plenty of other menswear essentials, there’s a way to make dark blue denim work for you in every season.

And if ever you tire of wearing slim light wash denim, it’s easy to switch back to classic dark blue jeans — like we’re doing today. Well, let’s just say that these picks are just as on-point as you’d expect, from stylish sneakers for summer to a rugged casual watch and a heritage-quality leather wallet. And with that … I’ll leave you to it! Read on, shop away and shoot me a note on Twitter with any thoughts you’ve got on this #menswear ensemble.

Here’s the crown jewel of the entire outfit, a pair of slim, classic dark denim made the right way. There might not be a better partnership in terms of rugged style and heritage quality than what Taylor Stitch has going on with Cone Mills. That means these slim blue jeans are made with only the best of the best in terms of cotton denim – that also means they’ll break in wonderfully and look great the more you wear them.

The Shirt: Taylor Stitch Short-Sleeve California Shirt in Red Madras — $118

Taylor Stitch

A well-crafted, crisp short-sleeve shirt from Taylor Stitch.

Leave it to Taylor Stitch to perfect classic pieces that work in every season – like this handsome, slim short-sleeve shirt. The Tee: Flint and Tinder Slub Tee in Vintage Navy — $28 OR ourCaste Finley Knit in Blue Grey — $28

Flint and Tinder

Two dark blue T-shirt picks for easygoing summer layering.

Layering a tee under a short-sleeve shirt might seem counterintuitive in the heat, but when you’re talking about a stylish Flint and Tinder slub tee or a uniquely textured, well-made ourCaste T-shirt, it’ll work out just fine. Either the Flint and Tinder tee or the ourCaste T-shirt give you the option to wear the Taylor Stitch madras shirt unbuttoned. The tee provides a bit of an extra layer against any summer breezes once the sun sets, too. It’s the perfect top half to wear to your next weekend BBQ.

The Footwear: Nisolo Diego — $129.98 OR SeaVees Maslon Desert Boot in Clipper Class — $108

SeaVees

Two finely crafted casual sneakers in unique colors.

We’re giving you two options here for casual summer sneakers, both of which make use of unique color and materials. The SeaVees Maslon Desert Boot in particular changes up your rotation from classic white leather sneakers, while the Nisolo Diego adds a bit of craftsmanship and rich quality to this outfit. Either are solid investments in terms of price. It’s worth noting that a pair of leather high-top sneakers – like the Todd Snyder x P.F. Flyers Rambler Hi – could work here, too.

The Watch: Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT —  $498 OR Aulta Acuatico Automatico — $240

Two watch picks, two durable, tough and stylish options for ya.

Since this outfit is filled with rugged, casual and yet versatile basics from the ground up, it’s fitting to offer up two rugged watch options. The Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT is a strong, hard-wearing and noteworthy addition to any watch collection. And the Aulta Acuatico Automatico is just as functional and durable — it’s a no-fuss timepiece for a no-fuss outfit.
Greats

The Socks: Arvin Goods Crew Socks (Three-pack) — $30

Stylish, sustainably made, simply designed and comfortable no matter the weather – that’s the case with the brand’s no-show socks and the Arvin Goods crew socks you see here. They’ll complement the colors in this ensemble quite nicely, and that’s all there is to it.

The Belt: Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt – $80

Sturdy Brothers

A handsome, well-crafted belt that’ll get better with age.

If you’ve ever encountered the issues that arise with buying cheap accessories, consider those problems solved with the handsome, rugged and incredibly well-made Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt. Richly crafted to break in and get better with age, this Sturdy Brothers belt could become an everyday belt if you’re a guy who wears lots of stylish brown leather boots and the like.

The Backpack: Filson Daypack — $99.98 OR Bradley Mountain Scout Backpack — $219

Filson Daypack

Add a rugged, ridiculously well-made backpack to finish off this outfit.

I do love a stylish messenger bag as much as the next guy, but there are certain situations that call for style that’s a little more functional and efficient. For hopping around from bar to bar, heading out on a stroll around town or loading up gear to take on a casual day trip, either the heritage-quality Filson Daypack or the Bradley Mountain Scout Backpack are going to get the job done. Two bags, two rugged, casual and yet versatile options to add to your everyday carry gear.
Florsheim
The Wallet: Bellroy Travel Wallet in Cocoa — $120 ($79 When Signing Up for Bespoke Post)

A heritage-quality wallet that should get a ton of use going forward.

Crucially, it’s also available for a heck of a deal when you sign up for Bespoke Post. Like the Filson Daypack or the Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt, it’s an accessory that’s going to get better with age – that much is absolutely true.

We covered a lot of ground there, didn’t we? Wearing dark blue denim in the summer is easy when you keep it crisp, simple and casual. The Taylor Stitch slim jeans you see above are made to break in over time while looking terrific – that much is true. And when you complement them with easygoing basics – like the Flint and Tinder Vintage Slub Tee or the ourCaste Finley Knit – you should be set for lazy backyard cookouts or a day-long upstate exploration.
Timex

Complementing reliable essentials with versatile, stylish summer sneakers is also a critical step to keep in mind. Without a doubt, either the Nisolo Diego or the SeaVees Maslon Desert Boot are going to treat you just fine. And when it comes to your everyday carry – as critical a component as any – the rugged Huckberry x Lum-Tec GMT or the Aulta Acuatico Automatico are both reliable watches. Of course, don’t leave home without a bag like the Filson Daypack – agreed? Lastly, grab the Sturdy Brothers Everyday Belt and the Bellroy Travel Wallet if you want to accessorize in style.
