The Friday Read: Glenn O’Brien, The Best V-Neck T-Shirts and Scottish Style

It’s under slightly different circumstances that we start today’s Friday Read. No mention of menswear news this week would be complete without discussing the unfortunate, sad and too-early passing last Friday of style luminary and New York City icon Glenn O’Brien. Known for everything from his long-running Style Guy column to his legendary social circle (his friends included Andy Warhol, Debbie Harry and Jean-Michael Basquiat, among others) and his time as an art and fashion critic, he really did inspire a generation of men to dress — and be — better. And his prominent role in the New York City and global fashion scenes is likely in some small part the reason this blog exists —  I vividly remember poring over his Style Guy column during late-night shifts as a journalism intern in a quite newsroom. There wasn’t quite anyone like him — even his time as an editor-at-large at Maxim these past few years proved consequential. I never did get the chance to meet him, but to see such an outpouring of amazing memories from across the entire fashion industry is quite neat — and fitting — indeed. So, with that, we’ll transition into our regularly scheduled programming with a great Esquire.com piece remembering Glenn O’Brien. Have a great weekend and be sure to catch tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week.

  • So, spring weather is finally kicking up a notch — that’s why it’s imperative you buy one of the best V-neck T-shirts for men, as I covered for GearMoose. Ya dig? And if you need tips on how it should fit, check out my guide to casual T-shirts.
  • Speaking of casual spring style, every guy needs a stylish denim jacket this season — that’s why I’m a big fan of the classic Levi’s Trucker Jacket. Shop away, folks!
  • It might seem odd to be pivoting back to discuss rugged winter style, but the folks at Triple F.A.T. Goose are about more than just outfitting you for the weather — I caught up with the brand to discuss how to store your winter coat for The Manual.

OK, I’ll leave you to it — I hope you get the chance to kick back, relax and maybe read a few Style Guy columns. Thank you for reading, as always!

The Friday Read: Maggie Rogers, The Best White Sneakers for Spring and The Best Men’s Work Boots

Thanks for joining us again for another Friday Read here at The Style Guide. It’s pretty wild to be closing out the last week of March and moving into April. The past month was certainly a busy, busy one, what with my Florida spring break trip and my latest #menswear road trip to Pittsburgh to see Local Natives, among plenty of Brooklyn style adventures.  If you’ve been on the road, or find yourself prepping for a spring break trip of your own, shop my suggestion on how to dress for spring break this year. For now though, we’ve got plenty of other seasonal style essentials to cover. For one, did you pick up a stylish spring jacket yet? A recent shopping post on this site covers pieces that are functional and great-looking (of course). And if you need tips on what to look for when buying a leather jacket, there’s an #OOTD entry I think you’ll find helpful and highly stylish.

Elsewhere in style (and trip) planning matters, it was with tons of excitement that I picked up tickets this past week to see none other than The Killers at the excellent Radio 104.5 Birthday Celebration in June! Of course, that show will follow on the heels of Governors Ball here in New York City — are you heading to any spring or summer music festivals? Let me know on Twitter — and shop my picks for how to dress for a music festival in the meantime. And that reminds me … we’ve got a nice mix of music and men’s style in the below reading picks. So, read on, enjoy the weekend and keep up with my real-time men’s style updates via Instagram.

SeaVees

My spring style pick — and available for a nice deal this weekend, too. Photo courtesy of SeaVees.

  • Not feeling in the mood for April Fool’s jokes, but feeling in the mood for some menswear? If that’s the case, the fine folks at SeaVees have a deal for you. On Saturday only (that’s April 1st — AKA April Fool’s), you can get 20 percent off all footwear — including the brand’s new Spring 2017 collection — using the code ‘NOFOOL’ … I’m not even kidding here, folks. My personal favorite pick? The SeaVees Legend Regatta, as featured above and as worn by yours truly on my recent Florida spring break trip . They’ll work with slim chinos, they’ll work with light wash denim and they could just be your new favorite spring sneaker!
  • So, we told you we’d have some music included in this post — right? Well, if there’s been one artist I’ve been listening to on repeat these past few weeks, it has to be the mercurially talented Maggie Rogers. The Maryland native seamlessly blends indie folk, jazz and R&B influences, with a touch of dance pop thrown in. It’s music that’s subtle, nuanced, well-written and beautifully sung — you might want to check on Maggie Rogers tour dates if you like what you hear! Tickets are literally selling out quicker than you can say “viral sensation,” so hop to it!

  • Now, back to menswear — I certainly have my own picks when it comes to classic men’s spring sneakers, and Esquire.com is also here with a  helpful rundown on the best white sneakers to buy for spring. Buy ’em now, wear ’em a ton and look forward to warm weather.
  • In other matters of men’s style, spring travel season — AKA spring break — is upon us, as mentioned earlier. Crucially, the Bradley Mountain Utility Bag is the one bag you need to buy and use for your next road trip. Let me know if you’ve picked it up via the comments below!
  • Last but not least … I rounded up 25 (25!) durable men’s work boots for GearMoose, featuring brands from Danner to Wolverine. Before you tackle your next spring project, grab a pair and get to it.

OK, so that’s this week’s Friday Read — have a great weekend and check back here tomorrow for a spring-friendly Style Pick of the Week.

Enjoy!

The Friday Read: The Men’s Health Box, Local Natives and Sofar Sounds

As I look back on this week, I’m struck by how quickly it went by — and by how I tired I am! It shouldn’t come as a shock, though — last weekend took me on the road to Pittsburgh to see Local Natives, a  stellar show and a great trip to boot. As I’ve said before, it’s always a treat to be able to travel, to see great live shows and to bring along my favorite #menswear. I’m not sure when I’ll be back on the road again — this past month already took me to New Haven to see Young the Giant — but I hope it’s soon. And until then, you can follow along on Instagram and Twitter. Of course, I won’t be going long without checking out some neat live music — I’m excited to attend my first Sofar Sounds show tomorrow! The company holds intimate, acoustic performances across NYC (and the globe), always held at a secret location and available only to a select set of approved registrants. Needless to say, I’m quite excited! However, we’ve got some menswear news to get to in the meantime, from transitional spring footwear to essential lifestyle gear. Given that we’re now past the first day of spring, I hope you’ve taken care of everything on your spring style wish list. You’ve done that, right? If not, let’s at least get a jumpstart on the weekend while we can — read on and stay stylish!

All of the essentials you didn’t know you needed — and a few fun add-ons, too.

  • Without further ado — are you looking to kickstart your lifestyle from A-to-Z? That is, from style upgrades to better nutrition and better workouts? There really is one place you can get all of this — and it’s the Men’s Health Box. Curated by the expert lifestyle purveyors at — you guessed it — Men’s Health, each box offers up everything from workout gear to menswear accessories to tech products and snacks geared toward your workout routine and an improved life in general. I can’t recommend it highly enough, and that’s why you should definitely sign up. Seriously, you get four boxes a year for $89.99, and the value of these boxes is more than $150 — so, a great deal. Oh, and you can get 20% off your first Men’s Health Box by using the offer code MHBOXMVP20. As you can see from the shot above, they really are packed with excellent, everyday essentials for making you a better man. Go to it!

  • We’re going to be getting to this site’s picks for the best light wash denim for spring in the coming weeks, but know that in the meantime,   the fellas at Esquire.com told us this week how your jeans should fit right now.
  • While we’re talking spring style upgrades, step up your footwear game with new kicks from M.Gemi — the premium Italian brand just launched the Netto Due, an absurdly beautiful set of hand-painted leather sneakers that are sharp enough to wear with a suit and versatile enough to pair with slim chinos and a casual pocket tee.  You would really do well to invest in a pair.
  • Let’s wrap this thing up early — shall we? The weekend awaits, after all. And if you need to upgrade your grooming game, take note — the Owen and Fred “You Dirty Dog” Grooming Kit should be your next buy — with everything from shaving cream to face wash, it’s three essential products designed to help you look and feel your best. Did I mention I covered it for GearMoose? Yes, indeed.

OK, onto the weekend — check back for tomorrow’s Style Pick of the Week, and have an outstanding weekend in the meantime!

The Friday Read: Daniel Craig’s Watch Collection, Ryan Gosling and Local Natives

Alright, folks — Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Over here, we’re buckling up for another Friday Read  on The Style Guide, and we’re capping off a very busy week in the process.  The days have flown by since I returned from a Style Guide spring break trip to Florida, choice #menswear gear in tow and all.  The NYC weather certainly proved a bit of a rude awakening, what with snow and rain and sleet pounding the city during Winter Storm Stella — that meant a day of working from home (or the Style Guide’s Brooklyn HQ, as I like to call it). If you dodged the winter weather this week, good for you — raise a pint and of course, check out this site’s feature on how to dress for St. Patrick’s Day (hurry, there’s still time!).

Greats

We’re also in the midst of the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament, and I’ll be fervently cheering on my Michigan State Spartans wearing some of my best team gear. If you need a few tips of your own when it comes to how to dress for March Madness, I’ve got you covered. And once the game wraps, I’ve got another busy weekend ahead — I’m hitting the road early Saturday to Pittsburgh to see perhaps my favorite band, Local Natives! That makes four shows in about five months, including my fall trek to Providence, and I couldn’t be any more pleased or excited! From powerful tracks off their most recent album, “Sunlit Youth,” through to classic offerings from “Gorilla Manor” and “Hummingbird,” I truly can’t wait to see ’em again! If you’ve got any suggestions for things to see or do in Pittsburgh, drop me a line. As per usual, you can follow me via Instagram or check out The Style Guide on Facebook to see how my trip goes — we’ll have a full travel style recap on Monday, too! In the meantime, enjoy your weekend and Go Green!

  • Let’s kick things off here by discussing some stylish men’s watches — shall we?  Namely, Bloomberg Pursuits caught up with our main man, and Style Guide favorite, Daniel Craig — they got the scoop on the watches he loves and wears.
  • Speaking of tough, durable watches, are you familiar with the Huckberry Combat B33 GMT Watch? No, you say? Well, it was last week’s Style Pick of the Week, and I’d strongly urge you to check it out.
  • Another current Man of the Hour in matters of style, Ryan Gosling shows you how to wear your new blue suit . Now, a word of warning — he might be the only one who can pull it off (womp, womp).
  • Be prepared to open up your wallet for this one — GQ tells us all about what could be your new favorite Oxford shirt (if you can spare some extra cash).
  • Let’s end the week on a non-menswear note discussing perhaps my favorite movie of all-time — will there be a sequel to Gladiator? Only time will tell; if Ridley Scott has anything to say about it, we just might get one, though!

We’re not quite set to roll into the weekend yet …

  • No sir, we’ve got one more post for you — if you need a tough jacket to battle inclement spring weather, the Whipping Post Explorer Jacket was made for you. It’s my latest via GearMoose, and I had a great time writing it.

That’s all for now — join us for another Style Pick of the Week entry tomorrow!

The Friday Read: Investment-Worthy Watches, Best Men’s Denim and the Huckberry Explorer’s Shirt

I don’t know about you, but I’m happy to report that today’s Friday Read on The Style Guide is coming to you from sunny Florida, where I’m getting some much-needed R&R (and a few Coronas) this weekend. Last time around, I headed to Fort Myers to celebrate a Florida Christmas, and I’m just as excited to be back now.  You can, of course, look for a full travel style post incoming on Monday and in the meantime, stick around for a few choice #menswear news items below. Before we get going, layer up for the weekend with the Huckberry Explorer’s Shirt — as profiled on this site last week, in fact.  And if you happen to be in a warmer climate, get acquainted with how to wear you new favorite polo this spring. Oh, and you’d do well to catch up with everything you missed on the blog this week, including another entry in our #OOTD series.  For, follow along with the warm-weather style gear and my Florida adventures as they happen via Instagram and Twitter. Cheers!

  • Esteemed Esquire style editor Matthew Marden offered up a nice quick-hit look at his fashion week trip to Europe to cover the world of global fashion — and specifically, brands showing both their men’s and women’s collections at once. What does this mean for all of us across the pond? Marden argues that big-ticket brands who show both men’s and women’s collections at the same time — giants like Burberry — create a clear and cohesive vision across an entire brand. That’s quite neat, when you think about it — ehh?
  • This was alluded to above, but you best listen up now — the Huckberry Explorer’s Shirt is the tough shirt — and shirt-jacket — you need as the weather turns south this month. Pick it up in the crisp Natural colorway, wear it with slim olive chinos and durable leather boots, and call it a day (or rather, get out and have some adventures!).
  • Need a new watch? Of course you do. And Gear Patrol argues that should buy just one — only one of these five investment-worthy watches and wear it all the time, in each and every style situation. If a stainless steel dive watch isn’t necessarily your thing, check out my picks for the best men’s leather watches.
  • While we’re on the topic of new #menswear — need a new spring bag? The folks at Timbuk2 just might have you sorted out. What’s that, you say? Tomorrow (that’s March 11th), the brand is launching a new bag collaboration with San Francisco street artist Apexer as part of the brand’s Future Shapers campaign. The campaign is designed to showcase unique individuals who drive forward change in their hometowns — like Apexer, an artist with a history of work across the globe and a commitment to San Francisco that’s echoed by the fact that the run of bags is sewn in the city’s Mission District. The line includes a classic messenger bag, a tuck pack and a compact roll-top bag called the Mini Prospect Pack, all done up in a unique kaleidoscope and textile pattern.
  • And lastly — I had a heck of a fun time putting together a full list of the best men’s denim jeans for GearMoose. I think you’ll recognize quite a few picks on that rundown, that’s for sure.

Last but not least — one more #menswear item for you …

  • Given that the weather has been so up-and-down, I’d wager you’re going to need a great spring jacket — that’s why I rounded up the best men’s spring outerwear last week on The Manual. Give it a read, suit up and get ready!

OK, we’re wrapped up for the week now — get out there and have some fun this weekend!

The Friday Read: The Nike Killshot, Affordable Menswear and Taylor Stitch

Editor’s note: Expect these posts once a week on Fridays — consider this a jumpstart on reading for your weekend downtime. Expect a mix of style and non-style content. For more entries, click here.

So, we’re back again with another Friday Read — and we’ve got a lot of ground to cover, folks! It’s the first Friday Read of March, and that means the Style Guide’s annual Spring Style Wish List is incoming — look for it early next week. It also means we’re wrapping a busy week in the #menswear world, including my latest travel style post covering my trip to New Haven to see Young the Giant! It was an outstanding show, with beautiful lights, great energy and an outstanding set list. That’s a band you gotta see, and soon. If your next show, or the weekend ahead, involves hitting the road as well, grab a stylish leather weekender for the occasion.  And if your weekend involves more relaxation than travel, you’d do well to pick up the Flint and Tinder Garment-Dyed Sweatpants, a recent Style Pick entry and as tailored and stylish a pair of sweats as you’ll find.  Oh, and as we await the transition to spring, don’t forget to stock up on essential men’s grooming products to keep your skin in shape before that next date. See, I said we had a lot of ground to cover. Of course, there’s plenty of business to take care of NYC this weekend, too — it’s New York City Beer Week, for one, and if there’s a more tightly concentrated metropolis of standout beer, I’ve yet to test it out. For now, let’s recap a few new men’s style releases and some choice news items. Check back tomorrow for the latest Style Pick of the Week, and stay stylish in the meantime!

We’re keeping it brief this week on The Style Guide — but here’s one more before you go…
  • I don’t pass up the chance to write about Taylor Stitch very often — seriously. I covered the Taylor Stitch Merino Henley, and why you need it for classic spring style, for GearMoose.

OK, folks — let’s wrap up this Friday and try some new brews … see you out there!

The Friday Read: The Orwells, Canvas Jackets and Abercrombie & Fitch

Editor’s note: Expect these posts once a week on Fridays — consider this a jumpstart on reading for your weekend downtime. Expect a mix of style and non-style content. For more entries, click here.

There are weeks that, despite flying by in a blur, make you grateful for what you do and where you live. This week was definitely one of them. But first things first — how did you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Happily in love or happily alone? Hopefully, you found our Valentine’s Day style suggestion helpful. As for me, I kept quite busy this week with pursuits both #menswear and music-related — as seems to be the case these days. And luckily, there’s perhaps no better place to pursue both of these ends than NYC. Yes indeed, there’s probably nothing I love more than a great live show — and this week’s been full of them. It’s always an honor and a treat to check out a show at the legendary Mercury Lounge — a former home to bands (and personal favorites) like The Strokes and The National — and seeing an upcoming band like upbeat, powerful Aussie rockers Gang of Youths  gives me hope for the spirit of the genre. So, that kickstarted the week — and of course, I rocked my JackThreads Munro Leather Biker Jacket for the occasion. But, that’s not all. If you haven’t yet plugged your headphones into the high-voltage, no-holds-barred rock of Chicago natives The Orwells, look out. It was a treat to attend their album release show at hallowed Brooklyn venue/record shop Rough Trade NYC, and the group’s brand-new album, “Terrible Human Beings,” is one you’re going to want to spin if you appreciate a simpler era in rock. Oh, and last but not least …. it’s time for show no. 3 tonight! Again, some weeks fly by in a blur, but I’m beyond excited to see the fun, positive and infectious rock of Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls, supported by another amazing band in their own right, Canada’s Arkells. Who’s ready? Now, before you dash out to your own slate of concerts and weekend activities, catch up with what you missed in men’s style (and yes, music) this week. Keep up in the meantime via Instagram and Twitter — TGIF and cheers!

  • Let’s get your weekend started with a nice #menswear deal — shall we? You might recall Johnnie-O from a few past entries on this site, namely as part of my packing for a November trip upstate. And if you need a stylish, luxurious cashmere sweater or a new spring polo to get ready for the season ahead — ‘cuz it’s coming — do we have a deal for you. Now through February 25thuse the code ‘GENTS17’ to get 10 percent off your Johnnie-O order! Yes indeed, that goes for the classic Player’s Blazer and the shirt that I myself picked up (and featured on Instagram) — the Dustin Denim Sport Shirt.
  • Need a new pair of spring footwear? Of course you do. Check out Esquire’s recent roundup of the best men’s sneakers to buy now.
  • It was a real treat to write about an essential outerwear item — that’d be a waxed canvas jacket — for GearMoose. Yes indeed, check out my roundup of the best men’s waxed jackets, folks.
  • Alright, because it’s Friday, let’s get down to business — The Manual teaches you how to make a Boilermaker this weekend. Cheers!
  • Lastly — we’ll be back with a new Style Pick of the Week tomorrow, but keep yourself occupied for now by reading about the essential, rugged Abercrombie & Fitch Chamois Shirt.

And with that, I’m off to another show — how about yourself? If that’s the case, learn all about how to dress for your next rock concert. See you in the front row!

The Friday Read: Grand Rapids, Basic Outfitters and The Esquire Man

Phew — what day is it? Friday? If so, you’re in the right place with another edition of The Style Guide Friday Read. What a couple weeks it’s been — in a good way! Between hitting up menswear trade shows and New York Fashion Week: Men’s, followed by a winter trip to Grand Rapids (more on that in a second), I’m more than ready for this weekend. It was a heck of a start to the week as well, what with a unique  and fun spring campaign launch event via my day job drumming up menswear PR for Timberland (A hint: The brand’s sneaker-boots are where it’s at this coming season). With that being said … are you as tired as I am? Even still, there’s plenty of winter style to work — get shopping with the best men’s winter accessories and upgrade your space with stylish men’s home goods.  Or maybe you’re traveling this weekend — in that case, get smart with essential winter travel style. Before you close out the work week, I hope you’ll tune into what we’ve got ahead for you — namely, a fascinating look at the ongoing energy and focus that Esquire is bringing to the men’s media landscape in a time of turbulence. It’s a great piece. Oh, and we’ve got a look at a neat brand that’s helping you up your basics game. Yes, it’s all here. For a look at what’s going on in the #menswear world this weekend, join me on Twitter and Instagram. TGIF!

  • A sharp addition to your summer footwear arsenal might have just arrived. What’s that, you say? Well, you can now pre-fund the smart, refined and waterproof footwear offerings from Gambino Alliance, a  recently launched Kickstarter that’s combining Italian leathers, liquid-resistant technology and memory foam comfort with versatile silhouettes like a sleek pair of Chelsea boots or a simple-yet-classic Oxford. Check them out — and pre-order them — via the Gambino Alliance site.
  • There’s certainly a lot going on in the menswear world this week, including the release of an unexpected — and unexpectedly awesome — new fragrance line from AXE. The AXE YOU grooming line includes everything from a daily fragrance to a body wash in clean, masculine scents; it’s certainly different from the old days of the brand! And it’s worth a look.
  • What is the mission of a men’s magazine nowadays? To provoke? To explain? To shed light on the world as it ought to be? Maybe a little bit of all of these things — the team at Esquire — and excellent, recently appointed editor-in-chief Jay Fielden — are setting out to answer these questions one issue at a time. So far, I think they’ve done an outstanding job — if you agree, you’ll love this piece from the New York Times on the future of Esquire.
  • As y’all know, we’re all about stylish, durable travel gear for this winter — check out how to dress for winter travel (in real life!) via my latest menswear trip to Grand Rapids. It’s a city with a stellar craft beer scene, some neat menswear shops — like Brothers Leather Supply — and plenty of classic Michigan scenery.

One more thing before you log off…

  • Don’t call it a comeback — call it an upgrade, if you will. It was great to learn more about Basic Outfitters for The Manual recently — here’s why you need to know this brand.
  • Before we close out for the weekend, I’d advise you to upgrade your gym gear — and possibly get ready for spring — with the Myles Apparel Everyday Short, my latest feature for the fine team at GearMoose.

OK, amped for the weekend? Beer at the ready — at least later in the day? Bingo.

Have a great one,

-Beau

If you’ve had to check your calendar to confirm that it really is Friday again, you’re not alone. Between attending some excellent menswear trade shows — including Capsule Show and Liberty Fashion & Lifestyle Fairs — holding down the day job and working on this here blog, it’s positively flown by. It’s always refreshing to get out “in the field,” meet new brands and make new connections — good things in store ahead, I assure you. With those shows in the books, I’m truly looking forward to the weekend because, well, it’s my birthday! OK, that’s out of the way. But with any luck, I’ll get a few great #menswear gifts to feature on The Style Guide (‘cuz men’s style never sleeps). In classic fashion, I certainly intend on kicking back with a few craft brews — oh, and brunch. Absolutely, brunch. I’m particularly excited to partner with Frank and Oak on some content on behalf of the brand this weekend, too. You’ll be able to look for a full personal style post in that regard on Monday, of course! In the meantime, sit back and tuck in– this week, we talked the best men’s home goods to buy now, and we also filled you in on potentially your new favorite leather weekender bag. A lot happened in the men’s style world, too — read on below, join me on Instagram  and see what’s cooking over on Twitter. Cheers!

  • Regardless of how you feel about President Trump, it’s clear that some of his economic and trade, err, policies could directly impact the fashion industry. Specifically, American-made menswear. Esquire takes a deep dive into the issue this week; for what’s it worth, we here at The Style Guide — by we, I mean myself — will continue to cover and support brands that do high-quality work, anywhere and everywhere, but especially in the U.S.A.
  • We’re switching off of #menswear for the time being and diving into an album that’s been in my headphones — and perhaps yours, too — since it came out earlier this month. Esquire (those guys again) put together a beautifully composed feature on The xx and the band’s beautifully composed new album, “I See You.” I’d urge a listen if you want to lift your mood and your day, folks.
  • If stylish, technical and functional outerwear is your thing, read up on my latest GearMoose feature covering the sleek Sentinel Field Jacket — and maybe complement that purchase with a pair of the best men’s gloves for winter?
  • Last but not least — if you, like myself, will be fumbling around this weekend for your wallet, grab the Brothers Leather Supply 810 Wallet and solve that problem handsomely (it’s a bit of a throwback post, but useful in its own right).

As always — thank you for reading, and join us tomorrow for what I think you’ll find is a very winter-centric Style Pick of the Week. Fist bumps all around, and you can keep my tab open (wink, wink).

The Friday Read: Kings of Leon, Menswear Trade Shows and SuitSupply

Editor’s note: Expect these posts once a week on Fridays — consider this a jumpstart on reading for your weekend downtime. Expect a mix of style and non-style content. For more entries, click here.

Menswear never sleeps, especially not if it’s Friday and there’s more work to be done before the end of the week. Welcome back to The Friday Read, where we’re going through all the men’s style tips and essentials you need to know to kick off your weekend, well, in style. We’re a few days closer to the positively massive and hectic trade show season in New York City, followed by another edition of New York Fashion Week: Men’s. I’m looking forward to scoping out new brands at the likes of Capsule Show and Liberty Fairs, just as I did on a summer trip to Las Vegas via my PR day job (with a bit of hustling on the side, of course).  Checking out new brands and reconnecting with great supporters at Style Guide favorites like Owen & Fred and Tanner Goods is always pretty great — if a little tiring between the daily grind and the afterparties! So, I’m definitely going to enjoy this weekend — particularly kicking it off tonight by seeing the arena-sized rock show that is Kings of Leon! To see a show at Madison Square Garden is pretty special, and that’s no more true than with a group you’ve followed since middle school.  Of course, I’ll be dressed in rock concert style — no doubt about that. What are you weekend plans? If it’s chilly where you are, I hope you layer up in classic winter style — there’s no better way to dress for the season, trust me.  Enjoy the weekend, thanks for reading and join us for a winter travel-centric Style Pick of the Week tomorrow.

  • Who knows how much gear is still left on the brand’s digital shelves, but the fine folks at SuitSupply opened up the SuitSupply online outlet for your shopping pleasure earlier this week — it’s the type of sale that many get excited about every year, and with great deals on slick tailoring and accessories, it’s not hard to see why.  Just how to style that new winter suit, though? Have I got the tailored #OOTD for you.
  • If we’re talking handmade craftsmanship and fine attention to detail, then we’re talking Markhor, a footwear company out of Pakistan that’s changing the industry’s approach to stylish men’s dress shoes — and trying valiantly to do so. I covered the brand via my latest post for The Manual, and it really was great to learn more about the unique and intriguing ways in which they craft their sleek, classic shoes.
  • Let’s step outside the menswear world for a second — and you might want to grab your headphones, because the xx put out “I See You,” the best album of this young year, last Friday … if you haven’t been able to stop listening, you’re not alone. It’s filled with essential tracks rendered with lush music, and I’d say they’re an essential act to see come summer festival season.
  • Before New York City’s menswear trade shows and the resulting fashion week scene heat up, take a look at GQ.com’s rundown of the best Milan street style  from the European style circuit.

Thanks, as always, for reading — and enjoy the weekend!
